He's not horrible, but i really dont recommend him. i certainly would not take his class again. He wont let you leave until class has been over for 10 minutes and has the dumbest conversations in class. he's a fiarly tough grader, and seriously plays favorites.
He overall wasnt too hard. He does however beat conversations to absolute death. Terribly boring and he really does grade papers pretty hard like we are an author or something. Ive been in worse, just wouldnt take his classes again.
Although his grading is tough, he is always willing to help students and clarify his expectations. He also allows you to go back and redo assignments for full credit.
The people that cant play favs do not understand how to get through an eng 102 class! Great Prof! we help you where ever you need. He also will give you time to make your half effort essay an A paper. Would totaly take class again
I really liked his class! I would totally recommend him to anyone. I felt like sometimes the discussions we had in class were boring and unnecessary but it passed the time. He is really hot so it was hard to pay attention but I still got a good grade. He is willing to help all students receive good grades on the papers.
Great teacher would highly recommend. Go to his office hours and get to know him, he will help you a lot more if you do and be more lenient on you essay grades.
T.A. for ENG 221--led discussions and graded all papers. Fantastic guy all around, asked insightful questions to help us understand/analyze the texts. Almost TOO nice! Attend most classes. Only complaint was lack of feedback on papers--"Good job, A" doesn't help much. But he's willing to help and he loves Middle Ages lit.
He was a really great TA for this class. He made discussions interesting and thought-provoking and he sincerely wants the student to thrive. He's really helpful, especially if you go to his office hours.
Ugh, fist off the reason I failed was my fault. Now I relly did not like him. i usually do very well in all english classes but this one....he is not clear on how he want his papers done, the peer review is sooooo pointless and his emails are VERY rude. I hate him i know he has positive reviews but my entire class hated him DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
I agree with the comment below. He's very vague when it comes to papers and the emails, while rather formal, come off as rude. The way he sets up his class may not be practical to all- you pick a topic and are locked into it for the semester. 4 months about the same topic? Horrible. If you're just looking to satisfy ENG102, pick someone else.
Good guy. Stay on the good side, and be sure to KNOW THE REQUIREMENTS for essays. He follows them to the point. He is pretty smart and he knows when you're b/s-ing him. Just genuinely do projects and you're fine.
He expects a lot from his students, but if you go see him in his office hours and go over your drafts with him you'll do fine. Lectures can range from boring to incredibly interesting. He's also got a very dry sense of humor, so if you appreciate that you'll enjoy him.
He is a great teacher. As a TA for of a class with a really ough teacher, he really helped clarify things. He's super helpful and ver enthusiastic. The questions he asks really get you thinking in a way you never have before!I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Nate to any student who loves English and wants to have a good time learning it, too!
Though he may be a bit harsh if you're on his bad side, going to his office hours to talk about your essays gives you a guaranteed A. (Just a tip)
Great English teacher. I think people are surprised because he actually grades papers like they're college essays... This isn't high school writing anymore. Don't expect to write essays quickly/without much thought. He really is helpful and clear if you just stay clear of getting frustrated.
He spends a lot of time grading your work and lets you resubmit your papers in order to get the grade you want. He is very knowledgable and knows what he is doing. Overall, a chill guy with lots of insight.
Honestly I never passed an English class with over a C, but I got an A in his class....SO EASY and he's a nice guy
Very Helpful teacher, makes a rather boring class atleast bearable. Unlimited chances to score high on essays.
You have to work to get an A in the class. He is a hard grader, but lets you rewrite all your papers. If you just follow all the edits he makes on your paper, he will give you an A.
Professor Bump is an all around great professor. He does what he can to make class interesting and he cares about his students. He rarely gives homework other than his essays, which there was only 3 or 4 and a final paper. He assigned reading about once a week, but I never did it and got an A. Make an effort on your essays and you'll be fine.
I really liked having him as a professor. I believe that he greatly improved my writing skills. Get your paper completed and reviewed before deadlines, it's a grade saver.
He is really interested in what he's teaching and connects with his students. tough grader but gives excellent and clear feedback & allows rewrites for essays which shows that he wants his students to learn and grow. I would take another class with him. Plus, he's a cutie...
Dr. Bump is very helpful with the course. He allows you to obtain a full understanding of the course and of all assignments. His objective is to help you develop as a writer rather than assign you lots of papers and readings and never assist you with your failures, errors, and mistakes. Do your work, get help if you need it, get an easy A.
He assigns deadlines for the process of paper writing, like, he'll have you turn in sources and a draft and then the final. Might seem annoying, but it really keeps you from procrastinating. He is very funny and very willing to help you pass the class. If you do your work, you'll automatically be in his good graces.
Bump was by far my favorite teacher this semester. There are only three papers, and he gives us plenty of time to complete them as well as doing exercises in class that can speed up the process/clarify things. He really cares about every student and is there to help you if you need it. I can't recommend this class enough!
Nate is a great professor. Comes in every day and asks how everyone's doing. The papers are honestly not bad at all. He also allows you to re-write them if you don't like your first grade, and the deadlines are given to you way in advance. There's basically no homework, but the content within class is meaningful. Don't skip out on taking his class.
For our class you could miss 6 times without a grade penalty. He teaches very well and you learn a lot. The essays can be hard and there is writing homework almost every day. His grading is tough, but he allows you to rewrite any paper with his critiques. I had a C paper, rewrote it, and got an A-. Loved his class.
A lot of reading material and discussions during class. Essays are tough and he is a really hard grader. The textbook is absolutely mandatory and he may assign quizzes if he feels the need to do so. This class is primarily focused on writing different kinds of arguments as well as learning to effectively incorporate research into essays.
The ENG105 course with him was different to say the least, but he makes so that if you put in the effort (show up to office hours and get help), and make your arguments in the paper clear, you will get a good grade to reflect these things. Overall, probably the best english teacher/professor I've had. Ever.
Dr. Bump is a really funny prof who's very accessible for help outside of class. He demands respect without yelling and his primary goal is to make sure you leave his class having learned something.
I was terrified of this specific class when school started, but Dr. Bump really made this class, dare I say, enjoyable. He gives great feedback, and you can re-do any paper you get a poor grade on for full credit. He's a funny guy and provides interesting and engaging materials to supplement the class. I'd love to take a class from him again!
This is a professor you'll be scared of disappointing. He's very nice and tries to be funny & engaging, so make sure you read and participate! He's also a super easy grader (100%s with minimal effort). 3 papers total (2 on hunger/poverty, 1 on identity) and no final.
Amazing professor, gives good feedback, and as long as you try, you'll pass the class
He is really nice and helps you write the best paper possible. There are also rewrites that allow you to improve your grade all the way to an A+
Awesome guy, he really care about his students and gives time for his students to get his work done. I would definitely take this guys class again
Dr. Bump is a fantastic professor. He is incredibly personable and very helpful when it comes to the essays. If you have an issue writing one of the essays, go into his office hours and he will help you out a lot. He was by far my favorite professor this semester and I am genuinely going to miss his class. He grades very fairly.
Great prof but the course was a little wonky, there isn't enough to balance out your grade if you miss an essay
He is the funniest, most caring teacher I have ever had. His class is fun and entertaining, but I still feel like I'm learning.
awesome class! 3 major papers overall- he really helps you do your best. lots of remediation. he will work with you if you put in the effort. wants every student to succeed. very small class size
This is the best professor/teacher I've ever had! He has a clear schedule of the semester and tells you what you need to do well in his class. I'd most definitely take this class or any other class taught by him again!
Nate was an amazing professor. I generally dislike English classes, but he made it enjoyable. There are three big essays and other small things you're graded on. He's very lenient with grading for the smaller things, and he lets you rewrite two of the essays. He takes attendance every day, but you don't have to participate much in class. Take him!
By far the best English teacher/professor I've ever had. He made the class fun and interesting. Highly recommend
Nate is by far one of the best professors I've had here at ASU. For the two major essays we wrote in class, I would stay after and bounce ideas back and forth with him, and he was always extremely receptive and offered great advice. Witty sense of humor, enjoyable classroom environment. Would recommend him to any student in need of an ENG class.
LOVED both of my classes w Bump. Nice, funny guy. Essay topics dealt with social justice issues so the work you do feels important. He doesn't waste your time, and he gives you an outline for everything you turn in to make it waaaaay easy. Plus, he lets you rewrite any paper for a better grade if you want to! AMAZING TEACHER AND COURSES.
Bump was one of my favorite professors last semester. I love English already, but even those who don't will be interested in the articles/lectures/discussions. If you show up, pay attention, and skim the articles assigned you're going to do just fine.
He's a good teacher, just complete your assignments and give effort and you should be fine in this class
I LOVED Dr. Bump! His grading criteria are very clear and the essays are on topics that you choose yourself so you can be sure to write about something you care about.
Very few assignments, but they are all worth more points. You have to do well on each assignment, and you can't just not do one. I found it easier than High School English, and he was always available if we needed any help. You picked your own topics, but most of the grading was pass or fail. no in between.
Dr. Bump is a great professor. He is will to help and allows students to redo assignments. He also has you work on your big projects in class for weeks in advance so you rarely have homework. If you do have homework it is reading a short article to discuss in class. I would highly recommend him.
There are a few writing assignments that are assigned weeks in advance and these writing assignments make up a large part of the grade. If you don't do so well on these assignments, Dr. Bump will give feedback that is very helpful and you can redo said assignments. Put in the effort, read the material and you'll get the grade you want. Great Prof.
There are only a few grades in this class but the papers are assigned really early and Dr. Bump will read them for you before you turn them in. He also gives really good feedback and allows you to re-write the papers for a better grade so you should easily be able to get the grade you want.
My favorite professor of this semester. His class is incredibly easy and most of the time he gives in class time for assignments. As long as you meet the basic requirements of each assignment and turn it in on time, you're likely to get 100% on everything.
Doctor Bump is a very wonderful man, and is great at what he does. He can be a tough grader, but allows you to fix any mistakes he highlighted for full credit. It is important to be punctual and have all assignments in on time. Attendance was mandatory for this course. Overall, fantastic professor who made English bearable for a STEM major like me
Overall wonderful teacher, gives great feedback on papers. Also, he's always open to help students with their essays and projects. Very easy grader as long as you put in the effort.
Dr. Bump was one of my favorite professors. He's really funny and personable and gives really good feedback. He's very available for help if you're struggling with an assignment, and cares about your well being. That said, this class was super boring in my opinion so just show up and get the work done and you'll do fine.
Dr. Bump is easily my favorite professor I've had at ASU. He allowed me to explore areas I was actually interested in through our essay assignments and his class was centered around real issues in the world which was refreshing. His office hours are a great time to work with him on your papers. I WISH I could take another class from Dr. Bump!
Going into this class I was nervous that it would be difficult. The whole semester is based around one topic which in my opinion was interesting. If you do your papers on time and read the assigned readings you will get an A in the class. He gives tons of feedback and allows you to rewrite papers if you are unhappy with your score. Very good class!
This prof is very kind and caring and makes and effort to get to know his students. He strongly reciprocates your effort in the class and knows who goes to class and who doesn't. He's a pretty easy grader as long as you hit his basic requirements, which he makes very clear. Do all the work in this class with some diligence and you'll get an A.
Dr. Bump is a great professor who truly wants to see you succeed! He gives you so many opportunities to do so, and lets you write about sub-topics that interest you, which is great.
Honestly a great professor--very willing to work with you to meet the expectations of the class. Two papers and a research bibliography constitute most of the grade other than a few busywork assignments. Class was centered around social research, which wasn't my thing, but it may appeal to you. Quite lenient with grading if you put in the effort.
Dr. Bump made English bearable and meaningful. The class this semester was centered around hunger and poverty; this meant the research and papers required effort, but they were applicable and thought-provoking. The best part was the presentation, which was lowkey. Dr. Bump was a funny, warm professor who reached out to each and every student.
Being able to have Dr. Bump for my 105 course has been a blessing. It was easily my favorite course this semester. He's very knowledgeable when it comes to composition and research, but is also caring and kind. If you come to class willing to learn, he will, in turn, be willing to work with you. Didn't miss a single point throughout the semester.
He really is an excellent professor. If you're not confident with your writing, he will help you perfect it. You can go to his office hours and schedule an appointment if he is not available! I took his literacy course. He's not a difficult professor, just be proactive! You will enjoy the class. Be ready to read.
Dr. Bump is an amazing teacher and keeps class interesting. There are assignments due every week but they are not too difficult. He also has a resubmit policy that lets you turn in a new paper if you want to try for a higher grade. If you do all the assignments on time and put in a little bit of effort, you will get an A in this class.
This was definitely the best English class I've ever taken. Dr. Bump kept the class lively and was always available to help with anything. We even had class cancelled a couple times specifically so he could help us with our papers.
I loved professor Bump. His assignments were very clear and you can resubmit the assignments for a better grade. As an engineering major, English is not my strongest subject but his class was very enjoyable. Take his class!! Make sure you do the weekly reading (they're interesting)
Dr. Bump is cool and will help you with whatever you need. If you do all of his work the way he wants it, you will get an A for sure. He's super nice and helpful.
Bump is a genuinely fun professor to have for English class. He recognizes that most of his students aren't English majors, so he doesn't grade papers as if they were. He organizes the semester around a research project, so if you choose the right topic, all of the papers will be easy to write. He appreciates papers with light humor.
hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had. Take this class if you truly want to better yourself.
Dr. Bump is a great professor to take to get your English requirement out of the way. If you do what is asked and what is clearly outlined in the assignments, you should have no problem getting an A. TIP: Don't cut corners! It's not that hard, just do what is asked and you'll be fine!
The class is rather boring but his sense of humor makes it bearable. The class had lots of pointless busy work that did not help. You pick a topic for the entire semester and you're stuck with it. I would reccomend if you want a challenge since he is a bit of a tough grader. But he gives you the option to resubmit all assignments for a better grade
My favorite class ever. I have really bad anxiety but his teaching style made me feel comfortable enough to participate in class often. If you do the assignments(they're easy & theres not that many), youll get an A. Great guy, amazing professor. I have nothing bad to say. I have severe anxiety & I spoke a lot in this class, cant stress this enough!
Amazing. If you just turn in your assignments on time its an easy A; if you don't then don't expect to pass this class, take someone else. Especially for my engineers, Dr. Bump really cares about both how your writing improves and how successful you are in the class. Just don't turn anything in late.
Lord Bump is possibly the most helpful professor when it comes to feedback. He is very understanding of his students, and has even granted extensions for essays. Just go to class and pay attention to the prompt and this will be a very enjoyable course.
Hes very good looking for his age and kinda makes you fall in love with literature all over again. Make sure to go to his office hours for better feedback on your assignments. I thought he was a tough grader at first, but he isnt so bad after all.
He's a great prof, cares a lot, funny, and very interesting. He made freshman english pretty good, surprisingly. The writing projects were interesting and fairly easy even if they took a while. Easy grader. The textbook is not necessary, you can find the like one reading from there online.
Dr. Bump is by far the most attentive professor I've encountered at ASU so far. This class is by no means easy workload-wise, but Dr. Bump WILL take the time to go through your essays with you and give good feedback. Overall, a very enjoyable professor.
I highly recommend Dr. Bump! His class was always enjoyable and the readings were very manageable and interesting to read. Everything can be resubmitted for a better score and he gives good feedback on assignments. He is a really great person and very understanding. Just do your assignments and you will do great in the class! (textbook used once)
There is quite a lot of writing assignments back to back. Attend class and work on them and you will not fall behind. Reach out to him he is very accessible and helpful. He truly cares and wants you to succeed. This class will make you a better writer. Keep up with the writing assignments and finish them as soon as possible. Book helps but not much
Dr. Bump came off as rough a few times, but for the most part he was very friendly and helpful during class. Gives a lot of feedback on your papers and is lenient with grading. 2 papers+1 bib+presentation around a research topic on the subject of poverty. Classroom discussions are on assigned articles and can be boring but make sure to participate!
Dr. Bump is a genuinely caring professor who gives meaningful feedback on your work. He also gives second chances for writing submissions. He has a great sense of humor and makes discussion a focal point in the class. I recommend him wholeheartedly! As long as you do the work and readings, it should be an easy 'A'
Bump is generally very organized and all the other things you want to see in a professor. He'll make sure its right in class and takes the time out to help you, but the work is you-led. It seems like a lot if you do it all at once. You will not regret taking him. Starts off the semester telling you that you are equal to him, despite his PhD/Exprnc.
He's incredibly elaborate in what he wants when it pertains to writing assignments. He makes you a better writer because you have the ability to be concise, receive concise feedback, and the course material has concise directions. Take him, you won't regret it!
Dr. Bump is a great professor, his classes are short, standards are very clear, and is an easy grader. However, you can tell he favors some students over others, but is still respectful and caring for everyone. He ends class early sometimes whenever there is no work to be done. I would definitely recommend taking Dr. Bump.
I highly recommend Dr. Bump's class. Just like any other English class, papers have to constantly be written and submitted. If you fail his class, it is because you simply did not try at all. He always gives out feedback on the essays and allows rewrites for a better grade. Don't slack and you'll pass!
Proffesor Bump is a great teacher, he not only explains what he wants clearly, but also lets you resumbit every single essay and recieve full points. Take him !!!
Professor Bump is literally one of the best professors at ASU. He is extremely passionate about the subject he teaches but more importantly he genuinely cares if students are performing well or not. Yes the course seems daunting during the year because of the amount of work there is but there is enough support for students to excel!
