A fun teacher. He gets into his lectures, and encourages student interaction. His tests are based off his lectures. He makes you do a "book journal", basicly he makes you read a normal book, and then wright what you think every couple of chapters. Not very hard when you do it. Slight louisiana accent.
Two semesters ago I dropped this class the 4th class meeting. Thought it was hard and he wasn't a good teacher. But when I re-registered and got used to his heavy accent it was a great class. He's a cool prof. The book journals are pretty easy. He will gladly help you anytime you want with history.
he is a kool teacher. knowes what he is talking about. Do take good notes and dont miss class. Look at the reviews and do the book journal. then you will get a B or A in class.
Profoundly superior professor!!! If you are ready to learn, Means is the man for you.
Means, is a good teacher. He works well with his students. To pass you must do the book journals, take notes, and ask questions...He's "high off questions!" :)
He is a good teacher. Very helpful and is "High On Questions". Take notes and refer to his lecture outlines.. He picks test Ques from this list.don't miss the previous day of the test !
Take good notes to do well on the test...provides tests reviews. Gives boring reading assignments to write a journal on them. If you're really not into reading books then this class is not for you.
Good Teacher...better than most history professors

Took him several semesters ago when I still went to NLC. Excellent professor. Tons of help provided. High recommend this one! Accent is a little thick, but it doesn't get in the way if you are actually paying attention.

his class is fun
Without a question the best teacher I have come in contact with. Intelligent, articulate and passionate about his field. I think even those who dispise history will enjoy his class. It is hard to resist history when your teacher is so enthusiastic and available to help you pass. I highly recommend Means for any history class!
Fun class! I wish there were more teachers like him. Passion is the key in making the learning process fun. "History is the light of truth, the witness of time, and the mistress of life." -Cicero Thanks for keeping History enjoyable!
great teacher.... lectures are actually good. teacher has great amount of knowlege about hist. i would recommend him
Great professor. If you're taking history, go with this guy. He is funny, and interesting. We had three exams with 40 mpc, 5 short answer, 1 essay. He puts good reviews on his website. 2 book journals are easy if u do in a timely manner. he'll boost your grade if u ask a lot of questions. no need to read the text if u pay attention & go 2 class.
I love Means idiosyncrasies, that is what makes the class so much more fun. He enjoys teaching History and wants you to enjoy learning it as well. He makes it easy to understand. I never read the book but took good notes and passed with a B. I highly recommend him. I'm "high" on Means!
He rocks. I used to hate history but he made me love it. He knows what he is talking about. I love the way he teaches. You will love it too. His test are not that hard. He is awesome. I havent many teachers like him. You just cannot sleep in his class. He gave a new touch to history. Take him.... He is funny.
He's good and easy, but just hate the Journal writing... sometimes you can get a good grades and sometime you will be piss off... but i like his test... you have to read 2 book and write your thought about it... thats what i have about it...
His materials are hard. I studied really hard for exams and he always gave me a B. He makes mistakes on his exams and expects you to find the mistakes so he can correct it at his convenience. Didn't like him too much. On the reading journals, I wrote alot in each chapter and he still gave me 90 out of 100. Dont take his class.
Means is a wonderful teacher. I highly recommend him he teachs you in a way that engages you from the beginning. He is also very helpful. The book journals are easy if you don't procrastinate... I think everyone should take him.
thought he was good at first. then i took the first test and failed. turned in my first journal entry and worked really hard on it and only made an 80. grades hard. tests are confuzing. hard to take notes. he's scatter-brained. I dropped the class cuz i was failing. dont recommend.
you have a lot of fun in his class. hes a great teacher!
If History isn't your favorite suject and you leave it to the very end, you should take Means because he'll not only help you understand it but he'll make you enjoy it. His class isn't that hard, study his notes, ask lots of questions cause he is high on those and participation can help your grade. His voice doesn't leave room to try to fall asleep.
As long as you take good notes, this class is pretty easy. Most of the multiple choice questions are straight out of his lectures. The book journals are very time consuming, but as long as you do the work your grade will be OK. He is very interesting, and I will definitely take him for my other history class.
i use to love history.. but now its super boring.. he is a okay teacher.. didnt learn much because lectures werent very interesting.... if u do take him.. my advice to u is... sit in the 1st three rows.. listen to his lectures and take notes(even though der boring)... n read da chapter when ur suppose too.. find a study partner... dont leave ur boo

He is very interesting! You MUST show up and TAKE NOTES. I recommend watching historical documentaries. He is "high" on history. The book journals are fine, just use a lot of adjectives and personally RE to situations, I avg'd 90's on those. Tests are pretty hard, even though I studied a lot! He is hilarious and cares about you actually learning!
during the entire semester i just missed just a single class. did good on the exams and journals. at last he gave me a B. when i asked for my score he said I had 89 due to which i got B and not an A. It really made me mad but even then he's a knowledged and makes the class intresting.
He's a cool teacher. If you pay attention in class and do the book journal, you'll at least get a B in that class. He's cool to talk to, you can talk to him about anything. If you bring up a subject or something that you don't understand, he'll make sure you get it before moving on. It also cool to hear his accent. Also ask questions.
Class is OK... but his grading is messed up. I got in 90's in all the exams but made only a C cos of the book reports. So if you plan to take him.. easy class but u wont get marks and he spoilt my GPA too so I wouldn;t recommend him.
He rocks! I am taking him for all of my history classes! Very helpful, is "high" on class participation, so ask questions and give opinions, it will boost your grade, but don't be ridiculous, and don't brown nose. Be prepared to take a lot of notes, study hard. I had no interest before this class, now I LOVE history!
Mr. Means is an ok prof. I expected him to be more serious though. He likes to make certain historical figures, events, and groups seem overrated and likes to think his views/stories are always historically relevant/accurate. Read the book. Tests aren't too hard. The book journals are what you have to work hardest on. (Write more; get A's)
I am refraining from putting accusatory remarks in this review. I will simply say that my experience was not positive. Thank you!
Worst history teacher by far. That sums it up. Jacked up my GPA.. i'm an 'A' student and he gave me a C. Maxed out all his exams but he said my class participation was not enuf.. even though i had 100% attendance. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. 'red flaggg'!!!
Just ok. Has favors. He even says he hates students that are quiet and don't participate. This causes unneccessary talks from students during class just to get his attention. Two book journals, its just hard to get an A or a high B on his journals even if he commented it as "pretty good". Only have 3 test,2journal,particip as grades.
I have not done well in his tests.
Let's just say this! Never take him for an online course. Takes him weeks and repeated emails for him to respond back.... Definantly not what I was expecting from an onine professor.
Very very bad professor. The dude is bad at teaching and even worse at grading. Total waste of time. Look elsewhere..seriously! You'll regret it..:(
I enjoyed his class. His sense of humor kept most students awake and engaged in the discussion. I felt like I learned a lot in the class. Attendance was taken everyday at class and points were deducted if there were too many tardies/absences. Thats life, deal with it.
The only people who people who grade him low are either not going further than an ASs., or aren't mentally ready. He grades very fair, if you work hard he'll give you what you deserve. Over two semesters I have only gotten 1 B, and no Cs. His class discussions are fair, it's not just about talking but thinking actively in your assignments.
MAKES YOU WANT TO fall asleep in class, makes you not want to go back ever again.Cant really take notes he goes from lets say year 1302 on his notes and half way says and in the year 1301. That was really hard for me. You do not use the text book, but you read 2 books. If you do not participate he will not even notice you.I totally stoped going.
Read the Out Line.Study for test using the out line... all test are base off the outline read the chapters take good notes make easy A... ONLY 2 Home work assignments. type more than one page a chapter you'll make an A.
He mad History a lot of fun!! I didn't think it could be possible, but with him it is. He is very clear and extremely funny. He LOVES it when people ask questions even if they're completely random. I took him for maymester just take good notes and study them. I made an "A" just with that never looked at the textbook. HE's AWESOME!
Avoid this one! I have a 3.8 GPA and this is one of the only B's that I've made in college. You have to participate in class discussions frequently or you lose points off your final grade (Even if there's 100 people in your class). This will definitely be the hardest history class you take!
He is extremely funny, well his accent is mostly. He really makes History a lot of fun and interesting to learn about. Ask questions this guy loves to answer them even if they are completely stupid. If you participate during class he will love you, seriously. The exams are so easy! Basically act interestes, ask questions, and study for the exams. A
He is a wonderful teacher, but if you are expecting an easy grade whether it is an A,B or C, this isn't the class for you. He makes everything clear, and he will answer all questions, but he expects for his students to be on a college level. He doesn't have time to baby sit. He is awsome if you are serious about learning.
I have never had the privilege to be taught by such a handsome professor. The only reason I made a B in his class is because his looks distracted me throughout the semester. Take this class! You will never be the same.
this guy is boring. beware he has favorites in the class. so if your a quiet person expect to get a lower grade for not running your mouth.
I took this class online and it was the worst mistake ever. I know this will be the only class I get a D in. If he is a good teacher you can't prove it via his online class. Maybe I should have went in the classroom!!
Prof. Means is awesome! As long as you show up, study for tests (3 total which he gives reviews for the first day of class), and do your book journals you will pass this class with an A. He goes in depth with the material and makes it interesting. He doesn't just read out of the text book.
Means is the man! He made history a lot of fun, and his lectures are top notch. He was the best history teacher i have ever had. Gives 3 tests and 2 book assignments. However, if you don't like reading i wouldn't reccomend this class.
He is very strict and rough.
If history is your favorite subject, then you would definitely love his class.
Dr. Means is an ok teacher. He gives 3 tests and 2 Book assignments.Make sure you take good notes and read out of your textbook!do the book assignments way before they are due or you will not get a good grade!Attend his class and pay attention!
I LOVE, LOVE his class! He is a fascinating lecturer, and knows how to keep your attention.I learned a ton while taking his class, and there wasn't much effort required because his lectures help cement so much on their own. He only has 5 grades in the class, but as long as you give these some attention you'll do fine. (3 tests, 2 book journals)
Fair, Passionate about history, fun to listen to (southern twang) and easy to look at. Do the work, and get the grade.
This professor is great, very passionate about the subject he teaches. He has a great sense of humor and has a lot of quarky things he does in class that keeps your attention. He makes sure you understand what he's teaching, and his tests are relevant and fair.
Mr. Means is a great teacher and makes sure you understand what he is teaching, but make sure you do the work, go to class, and take good notes or you won't pass. But he is a great teacher.
Dr. Means was just fine!:) You only have 3 tests and two book journals! The picture above has probably not been updated in like 20 years but here is his website that is really helpful when it comes to lecture outlines! http://nlfaculty.dcccd.edu/means/homepage.htm He makes history really fun and I would definitely recommend him to you!
ok so takeing his class on line in the summer probly not a good idea there are 4 test for each week of the semester every week the test covers 5 chapters and 5 DVD lessons than you have a book journal on the the book 12 yrs a slave the entire book!!! and thats due in 3 weeks so only take one class if u take this in summer and work
Mr. Means was an ok teacher! The only thing I didnt like was his outlines. They were really helpful to know what material to study but everything was all over the place! Luckily I passed with a C!
Took class for summer 1 2012 along with another speech class. Workload is intense, dates for 4 exams not flexible, covers alot of content including a couple hours of video lessons for each test in addition to textbook. Reviews are kind of mixed up, doesnt follow order of book. Also have a book journal over 250pg novel. Made an A, put in alot of wrk
Great teacher. Usually I do not do well with professors who only lecture but he is an attention grabber and can keep you focused. If you want to boost your grade, I recommend sitting near the front and join in on any conversation. He grades on participation!
Dr. Means is one of the greatest professors I've ever taken. His lectures were filled with information and humor injected to keep the class moving. If you don't do well in his class, it means you were asleep, did not attend class or simply did not study. Be prepared to write and express your thoughts on topics he has clearly left notes for. "TP"
Mr. Means knows his information. If you take notes and study, you will do well. He loves what he does and it shows in his lectures. He has a way of keeping your attention the entire time period through humor. I highly recommend him if you want to learn a lot in history.
Only a couple of grades for the whole semester, his lecture notes dont always mirror his lectures, and his exam study guides are pretty time consuming (but they definitely help with the exam). He's very knowledgeable and seems to have great interest in the subject. He's always "high" on government. Weird/funny sense of humor.
He jokingly exaggerates things that will be on tests, so that helps. He's pretty funny and at least doesn't put you to sleep. He is so nicely dressed to I love it lol. His tests are pretty hard, but you just have to pay attention to what he says and you're good. Book journal is really easy and he's not very critical. Good professor!
This guy talks really weird and everything we went over in class was hardly on the test. On the test day he would want you to write short paragraphs when you can only write about so much. Wouldn't recommend this class to anyone.
I will not recommend him to anyone. His class was the only class i failed and that was really awful. He gives hard tests and expects you to answer the questions the way he said it in class. He makes jokes that are not even relevant to the class, and grades really hard. I took another professor for the same subject and i got an A.
Dr.means is an awesome professor but his tests are a little tough. He really gets you interested in history. He's also a very fun and out going professor. He does assign book journals that are tough. To earn extra credit he only asks his students to be interactive.
He is really enthusiastic about history. Lectures are not as boring as I thought and paying attention is must. His exams are a little tough and book journals must be taken seriously. Extra credit is given if you participate in class. Overall, just study and you'll pass.
His instructions were very clear which is not always the case for online classes at North Lake. A helpful study guide was given. The class is mostly based on reading the textbook and watching videos for tests plus one book journal. If you do the work you can get an A.
He is just horrible teacher I have ever had in my life not help at a all please don't wast ur time with him try to take other teacher I just make huge mistake to take him while my friends told me not to took him
I would NOT recommend his class to a friend or classmate. I had to drop his class for different reasons. Main reason is b/c his style of teaching. On the plus side he has swag
Yes he lectures all class long and yes you should write down everything you can get down on paper but it's worth listening to him because his tests are based on his lectures! People who dislike him or tend to fail is because they can't simply take the effort to write notes or listen to the information that is given during class.
Please do not take his class! He's the worst professor I have ever had, his teaching skills are so bad. His lectures take up the whole class and he expects us to write everything he says! His tests are really tough and wants us to write paragraphs for each question. Overall I liked his jokes but that was it.
If you take his class, then make sure you write every single thing he says. Lectures are all class long. His exams are easy if you listen and take good notes. He's really funny, but I wouldn't take him again if it was my option.
I took his history 1301 class and it was the best class I have ever taken. Means is hilarious and great teacher. I never used my textbook and his lectures where entertaining! You only take three tests and write one book journal! Participation is his form of extra credit, so ASK QUESTIONS! Make sure to start reading the book early!
Dr. Means' class can be tough if you don't do well with lecture only classes or if you don't like to show up to class. Your grade in his class depends on you. Take good notes and you will be fine. I took him for both 1301 and 1302 and made an A. Study for tests! I would take him again if he taught any other classes I needed. Excellent professor!
Very tough professor the hardest. I had a baby and had to go to the hospital. Missed one assignment only one and he would not let me complete.
DO NOT Take him. Horrible grader and his tests are tough.
NEVER AGAIN!! Worst Professor Ever! His test reviews are the worst and the Tests are hard! Do not take him!
Very tough professor and would not take him again. Seemingly arrogant, rude and unhelpful!
I have taken Means twice in the pass for both of my History credits, why do you ask? it is due to him being that great of a professor! Yes his test and grading are tough but if you place the effort in his class you will be rewarded, and he does notice the students that are placing that so forth effort! In both classes I recieved an "A".
He was an awesome professor. Most definitely wil take one of his classes again.
His lectures are long and boring if history isn't your subject, but the tests reflect his lectures 100%. Throughout the semester he has 3 tests (25% each), a book journal (15%) and participation (10%), so in order to pass you really have to pay attention to his lectures, follow his given outline and take well notes. I'd suggest recording lectures.
I took an online class and it was the most time consuming thing ever! Although I received an A, I feel that there was very little direction given in the online course, which made tests hard to prepare for. I have not met him, but from his announcements, he does not feel like a very lenient person.
Mr. Means is very unclear in his criteria for assignments. He not only wants you to read the chapters from the book, but also requires HOURS of watching additional video every week. This is fine in a normal semester, but during a wintermester or summer it is extremely difficult. Half the test questions come from the video so there is no skipping it
I thought Dr. and yes DOCTOR, he likes to be called by that, was an amazing professor I had. He gave feedback on my tests, very straightforward. You seriously don't have to read the textbook (obviously if you want to to get a REALLY good score), but I didn't and I studied my lecture notes (TAKE GOOD NOTES) and passed with a B. His class is not hard
wouldn't recommend him unless you have no options
Dr Means is an amazing professor! I took him for 1301 and 02. He's always making jokes and dresses really nice. His lectures will make you like history even if you don't and will keep you awake even early in the morning. For the people that are giving him bad ratings, its probably just cause they didn't like taking notes but hey, that's college.
Dr. Means is a very good professor. I absolutely hate history, but he makes it interesting. He's absolutely hilarious by the way! I do have to say that you should start your book journal early and to study for his tests. You have to answer some questions in paragraph form on his tests and theatres always a short essay required. Also, don't skip!
He talks a lot and you should write what ever he says down. If you study that your good. Not an easy A if you don't pay attention. Easy A if you study what he says in the lectures.
He is a really funny teacher. He gives his own opinion a bit, and I didn't always agree. But other than that he was an enjoyable teacher, funny, not boring at all!
Took him during Maymester online and it was quite challenging. Not a lot of assignments except a critical analysis paper and 4 tests. Make sure you study each chapters and what he has outlined and you should be okay.
His lectures were super boring (i dont like hisotry) which made his lectures ten times worse to me. He doesnt have any visuals which makes it hard to take notes at least for me. I would not recommend him if you are not good at taking notes without presentations on the board
I took Prof Means for HIST 1301 online for Summer II. At first, he comes across really abrasive and you're like" OMG what did I sign up for?!" His class is NOT bad. Online course is just 4 tests and one written paper with LOTS of reading. The only way to not do well is to not read your lessons and follow simple directions. Taking him again for 1302
Very good at being detailed
I took Professor Means Summer II. It was quite challenging but he was always available to help when I needed him. He is very understanding. I did pass his class, but he made me work for it. LOL
Dr. Means is a great professor paints a picture in your head when he speaks history. If you follow the learning objectives and study hard you will make a good grade
Professor Means conducts a very challenging curriculum, and I was very hard pressed to properly study for each exam. I had him as a professor this wintermester and found it very difficult, yet if you put in the work there will be a well deserved grade waiting for you once you finish.
Means is a very good lecturer. History is an information heavy class by nature and he is good at giving said information through really good lectures. The class was not easy but he gave us things to prepare for the tests and his homework assignment(s) was doable as long as you didn't try to do it all in one night.
Dr. Means is a fantastic orator, which is exactly what you want for something like History. His outlines tell you EXACTLY what will be on the test, so you really have no excuse for not doing well on them. He asks for two book journals over the course of the class, and wants to know your actual thoughts and opinions, not just a summery.
He made the class laugh often with his lame jokes. However, he was a horrible professor, I would suggest to not take him. His quizzes never had anything to do with his lectures. He talks way too much and goes off topic.
The exams are LONG! You have one hour to answer 60 questions. One question per minute. Absolutely hate it. 40 questions was manageable in GOVT and other classes. 60 questions in an hour is tough when it's BORING history with too many dates, and names to remember. Only 3 more classes and I'll graduate. This is one of the toughest I've taken.
Lots of reading
So I took him for Maymester and I came prepared to read and do what I am supposed to do in my coursework. However, 60 minutes for 60 questions is pretty extreme. I am a fast reader, but I do like to try and take my time on exams so I can read the material and answer appropriately. The time that is allotted is to little. Have him for 1302 sadly.
Amazing, energetic lectures, a great teacher, and his tests are designed for you to pass. In his syllabus he includes quiz outlines for each of the 6 quizzes/tests you'll take and he's understanding of personal matters as long as you're up front from the start and not afraid to ask for help. truly wish he could continue to be my history prof. 10/10
He was the worst college professor I've truly every had. I have a bachelor's degree and am currently pursuing a second degree. I am in the honors program and will be walking away with a C. I wrote a 7 pg paper that wasn't detailed enough. He needs to keep in mind his is not a 3000 or 4000 level course. 60 ?s on each test and he allows 60 min!
All you have to do is pay attention, take good notes, and youll do good on the tests and quizzes.
I took the class online, so I don't know how he does in lectures. I would suggest taking the online class because you don't have to show up to a class. There are only four exams and one assignment which is a book journal. The book was 12 Years a Slave. It was a really good book so it is not painful. Make sure it is submitted as a doc and not a pdf.
You need to take notes while he gives lecture and complete journal on time. His quize are easy as it comes from the notes.
He has no emotions to students. He's such a rude teacher I have ever faced during my life. Never take his class.
This teacher was horrible and you should be prepared to read a lot and expect very very hard tests. I tried to reach out to him about a book journal that he assigned and he clearly didn't want to give me much feedback. I wouldn't take this teacher. He seems to be a lazy online teacher. The only good thing is that he gives 4 tests and 1 book journal
Didn't get to interact much online. He was helpful when I asked a bout the Book Journal. I got an 85 on the book Journal but yet still put some rude comments when grading. Other then that its just 4 Test. if you are taking this online I suggest watching all the videos available. Doing that alone should get you Bs on Tests.
I personally loved Professor Means class. He has his own quirky sense of humor which keeps lectures interesting. I showed up to lecture everyday, took notes with the lecture outlines he provides, & I would study before any quiz and exam and i got an A. Looking forward to taking him again for 1302.
Nathaniel Means thinks he's in Stand and deliver. Just by reading the syllabus you can tell how pretentious this man is . His book report demands so much but he won't tell you what specifically. He has what he wants written on his book report spread out over 3 different docs on his page each with advice like "tell me what you think, not feel"
online class consist of : three quizes and book journal . Have to buy text book and book .
Professor Means gives interesting lectures and clear grading criteria. If you pay attention and read the textbook you should get an A. He is also quite funny and answers questions well.
Took him for Hist 1301. Classes are pretty interesting, but you need to work on it. Attendance is needed, as the questions are generally from the lecture notes. If you are a history major, then he is a must. Got an A
I took professor Means for 1301 and 1302, he is very passionate about his class and is a great professor. Make sure to take good notes and study if you want to pass. If you are a slacker don't take this class.
People complain about his lectures, but theyre not bad. He gives the due dates for the book journals months ahead so theres no excuse to do bad. The test are easy if you study. Hes a good man.
I am not a person who likes to point hands, but I also believe I had tried enough to get through this HISTORY 1301 course with this Doctor but it has just happened to be an attempt because he is not clear about the message that he wants to pass as it is not clear in his question exam for what is been asked.
I've taken this class online it seemed impossible to pass, I failed all the exams 60 minutes to answer 60 questions do not take his class he's horrible.
dont take his class he is very tough grader and he donot give u extra credit. If you take his class i am sure you gonna fail this class
This is by far the hardest class I've ever taken. Being a high school dual credit student, it's too much work given in this class to the point I feel burdened. Don't take this class.
Means is really a fantastic teacher, what matters most in the class is paying attention. There are 4 tests and 1 or 2 book journals depending on the semester. He always made History so fascinating, I really loved going to his class. The tests are purely made from the lectures, very straight forward. He has a fantastic personality. 10/10
This professor is horrible, biasing and as his name really mean. tough tests, wont allow you to attendance once hes done with the attendance, you'll get no grades at all no matter how hard you try to. too rude. looks like a mean clown. no emotions and i hated every time in his class. Failed his class although tried my best in class.
Honestly, Means is my ideal professor. Teaches solely by lectures, gives GOOD lectures, and grades by few things (3 quizzes, 3 tests, 1 book journal, participation). As long you pay attention in class, take notes, and look over them, there's literally no need for a textbook. Not an easy A course, but not nearly as hard as everyone says. Fun class.
Best professor ever. He is willing to explain anything and everything you do not understand. I'm taking him again for HIST 1302. Super FUNNY, smart, and handsome. Take notes and study. Just use the required book from the library instead of buying the book or code. Repetition is his number one thing that will help you pass and understand. OUTLINE!!!
if you are a procrastinator do not take this class. It is easy all you have to do is read literally read like you are reading a fiction book and you will pass you do have to remember certain events but that is what the class is about. it is easy as long as you pay attention.
I took his class online for Wintermester and it was fine. Honestly, just do you part and youll pass. Theres a short analysis paper and four Unit Exams (60 mins for 60 questions) watch the videos and take detailed notes and youll be fine for the exams! Syllabus and due dates are clear.
Hes a funny guy to listen to. He keeps the class fun with his jokes. Although there are few assignments which is bad if you do horrible on test. Make sure to study his reviews and do the book journal. If you do bad in test its difficult to get it back up since he has no assignments that can help.
Unsensible at my criteria, no extra credit, my online class with him was a nightmare. I just needed few points for a C grade. 60 questions for 60 minutes lack my brain. Terrible class during my college experience. Book was confusing and even I ask him for help his answears were different when taking the test. I hope North Lake can check him.
A great professor. Very dedicated and always offers to help. All questions from the review on the test. Will surely take his class again! Gives very good lectures.
The worst professor I have ever had. He gives you the book and you are basically on your own. Very poor instructions and did not retain anything. The test consists of 60 questions in 60 mins. The class is based on 4 test. Which made this class more about passing then learning. He clearly doesn't care about his students and only his paycheck.
Horrible class, 60 minutes and 60 minutes. Very tough to clear.
Horrible. You are going to fail his class if you do not have a textbook. His tests are 60mins-60questions. Which is not possible to think and score on. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS WITH AN A. Worst grader.
Professor Means gives great and entertaining lectures. You will pass the class as long as you show up and take notes. Some may view this class as being too difficult, but he goes over all test material in lectures. There is also one book report given, and you will fail if you dont turn it in. Take notes, listen, and you will do just fine.
He loves his job and you can tell. Mr. Means is such a good quirky professor- his lectures are thorough, quizzes are easy if you pay attention, and he doesn't assign hw other than 1 project. He makes class enjoyable and fun to follow. He takes attendance in the first 5 mins so if you're late you'll be marked absent though. It is lecture heavy.
Prof Means is so funny and I enjoy going to his class. He only takes up a few grades but as long as you listen and take good notes and go over your outline, then you'll be fine. I suggest to print out the outline, and make sure you do your book journal. His class is very easy just play very close attention. I will be taking his 1302 Hist class.
Professor Means was by far one of my favorite professors! Hes super hilarious and I was never once bored of his lectures. His class is super easy if you pay attention and take notes. I was really satisfied with his teaching material and I would definitely recommend :)
Professor Means is not a bad professor by any means (no pun intended). He is different in that there is only 5 grades in the class (4 tests and 1 short essay). He gives the terms that will be on the test beforehand to study but do not expect to just know the definition of the term, but know the how and why of the term. Easy B, hard A.
I had him for lecture but then transitioned into online classes due to COVID-19. He is very funny and his lectures are really interesting. His online class is very easy, just make sure you watch all the videos, read a lot and also take notes. I did have to buy a book for the book journal that is a big chunk of your final grade.
Only 4 grades in the grade book, if you have a computer lagging from the exam, he wont believe you, almost none of the questions are online, even if you find them through document websites, I think he changes the question each year. He gives lectures through videos. So run away from this teacher if you want an A in history.
I am telling you as the most recent student in his class. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. You have the chance to run away now. Go away. Terrible teacher, doesn't teach you but to show online videos which you can clearly do that yourself.
Taking Professor Means class online was horrible, his entire grades is 4 exams and 1 Short Written Analysis. Doesn't teach you anything, so much reading, but he does provides online videos but thats it. For units there is too much information to remember for exams, also no notes on exams.
MAKES YOU READ A BOOK! That was the most annoying thing about this class other than you can't be one min late to class either. His test are hard so you actually need to study and take lots of notes! You will not pass the exams without studying. Old fashion testing and grading, but at least he has southern charm. NOT AN EASY A HISTORY CLASS!
You have to read over 160 pages a week, per unit. It takes the normal person, it takes 50 pages to read an hour (not including extensive notes you will have to take.) Then on top of that around 30 mins of lectures that are just cut from the History channel, again per unit there are 4 units. For only 60 questions exams, 4 exams out of 5 total grades
Mr. Means is awesome! You have "a lot" of reading to prepare yourself for tests, but you have no homework besides the few discussions boards he gives. His class is basically self-paced as the tests are spread far apart from each other. Beware of the Book Journal as it counts as a great portion of your grade, but he gives you a lot of time for it!
The most hateful professor ever. Discriminate. Course is too long. Give notes but exam question never comes from note.
If I was a millionaire, I'd have given money to students not to take his class. He's the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. You've to read the WHOLE BOOK LIKE A BOOK WORM. He takes his PhD too seriously and considers you at the same level since day 1. The class is based on three tests. You can NEVER fulfil his expectations coz they are unreal
Class was not arranged properly. Material was not clear enough
There are multiple issues, but the biggest would be his tests. I studied and took notes like crazy despite the "study guides" being broad topic words in a paragraph with no formatting/spacing. The tests themselves are riddled with typos/misspellings, repeat questions, and what I suspect are occasional incorrectly marked "correct" answers.
This so called "professor" was the reason I took a year off thinking I was not cut out for college, He does nothing but talk for an hour and a half and the only grades you get are four "tests" This should be a dead easy class just take it online he makes something that should be so easy so difficult what a joke of a professor. Absolutely a joke.
The lectures were very interesting and he encouraged active participation from everyone, which helped the material stick for me. The detailed study guide was very helpful to study for the quizzes and exams. I almost got an A but I missed the required book journal. Do the work and you'll get a good grade, trust me. Overall great Professor and class!
boring lecture.
I love Dr. Means. His classes are lecture heavy, make sure to show up and take notes. There is a textbook but I never used it since he goes over what you need to know in class. He's extremely funny and loves to be clear. There are a total of 3 exams and a book journal. Make sure you take good notes and study before each test!
The toughest grader,no extra credit, just 3 exams. I recommend to not take this class
There are online quizzes,3 in-person exams and 1 journal for this class. He provides an ebook and gives lecture in the class that's everywhere you can study from so you have to listen to him and take notes in class otherwise its gonna be bit messed up for you.He is a tough grader so if you want good marks you have to put hard efforts.
Professor Means' HIST1301 class is challenging but rewarding. The lectures are engaging, and the detailed study guides are extremely helpful for acing the quizzes and exams. Using Unstuck study alongside the textbook made studying much more efficient. Worth the effort!
very passionate and funny teacher, when he teaches he will have your full attention for the whole class. and the work is very east. 7 assignments total,3 quizes,3 tests, and 1 book journal. if you pay attention in class, and spend a day or 2 studying for the test youll pass with an A easily. and I'm going to be taking his 1302 class to.
He is a really great professor, and I enjoyed going to his class. He makes it lively and gives you time to ask any questions you might have. He loves it when students ask and answer questions. It goes towards your participation grade, and you get extra credit. Attendance is mandatory, but you will enjoy going to his class.
He gives a lot of test.
It wasn't a terrible class but if you're someone who hates lecture heavy classes DONT TAKE HIM!!!! all he does is talk and talk. For some people it might be good but for me it wasn't, and his rubric was not descriptive at all of what he asks in this class.
Dr. Means is very thorough and explains things clearly. He doesn't give a ton of unnecessary assignments, which makes the class manageable. I'd take his course again for sure.
