NOVA can't find a better professor? Such a waist of money!!
VERY EXPERIENCED. BUT NOT VERY GGOD AT TEACHING
I did not like this teacher, not only because this is my only B but because his teaching is confusing and boring. He does use some personal examples and experiences (he works for the World Bank) but it doesn't do you any good since his tests have nothing to do with that. I would skip this teacher full circle.
He is very helpful and clear (even with his Indian accent). You need the book in order to keep up with his class lectures and tests. He gives out quizes but no pop quizes. He lets you know what is going to be on the test and quizes. Attendance is not required but if you dont attend you miss important notes. All of his notes are on powerpoint.
He is a nice professor. His quizzes and exams are multiple choice, and he requires a presentation before the final exam. I asked him many times. He was kind. Finally,I could get "A". Thank you Mr.Sana!!
he is very good and smart, knows a lot and makes class ineresting. he is the best.
He is an excellent professor and teaches extremely well.I Reccomend him a great deal if you really want to understand the ins and outs of econommics.
His class was a bit hard but if you read and ask questions in class you should get some clarity. The topics are hardly appealing but there is no avoiding that. He has a lot of experience so no problem there. Go over the powerpoints and do the quizzes from the book and from his website. So surprised I got an A cuz I said no way that was gonna happen
Hes not a terrible person he is just not meant to teach, I did get an A in his class but most of it was because I bought Cliff Notes review book. He really knows his stuff but isnt very good about sharing what he knows. He is very unavaliable, he actually told one of his students in class to stop emailing him with questions.
I have to say this was definitely one of the most challlenging classes for me ever, but I definitely got a lot out of it. I got an A but I think I probably should have gotten a B+. He appreciates students that really try to understand the subject.
He is sooo nice. He'll help you out if you ask. I think if you go to class and pay attention it is an easy A. I think he is really clear as long as your focused and put some effort. Study for like half an hour and thats pretty much it.
best teacher i had in my life period! he is so smart, and worked at the world bank.this guy knows his stuff just come to class with a economic mind frame and you should succeed.
It's a great teacher. He knows what he is talking about and he tries to explain everything very simple. If you are interested and you try to understand, you shouldn't have any problems. But if you don't study, he won't give away good grades for nothing
its a hit or miss with this guy. He's super smart and knows what he's talking about but your grade depends only on tests. Buy the book, your gonna need it even if he says not to!
Very very smart, worked at the world bank and uses real world examples a lot which really helps. Honestly did not really need the text book but studying the notes is a must. An A isnt too hard if you do.
He is one of the best teachers at Nova. His past experiences combined with his great personality make his classes very intersting. You dont even need a book ! All you got to do is pay attention to his lectures and attend his classes on a regular basis: you will definetely pass the class with a decent grade.I highly to recommend him to others !
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!! EVERY EXAMPLE HE USES & PUTS ON THE BOARD NOT EVEN ON THE FRIGGIN TESTS!! First day into class I sat in the back & you could not hear this man! I had to move all in way in the front his, he still has an accent and speaks low. I dont mind accents but SPEAK UP FOR HEAVENS SAKE!!
It takes a while to get used to his accent, his method of teaching and his tests (they are tricky). The easy part is that he takes pretty much everything from the textbook, so if you read the chapters you are going to be alright. The class is challenging for me, but I do not regret taking it with Prof. Sarna.
Great learning experience. He is well informed and knows economics inside out. Would highly recommed him to interested students. You will learn economics in his class.
Our final for Econ 201 is 40% of our grade. Don't expect a study guide! Yes, he knows a lot about economics, but as a teacher I wouldn't recommend him, one of the most challenging classes I have ever had.
Dr. Sarna knows what he is talking about but is not very good at communicating his ideas to people who do not understand or have a hard time grasping economics. He also doesn't do well with his powerpoint presentations and the fact that he sometimes mumbles during class does not help either.
Great learning experience. Highly recommend his class. But be prepared to work hard and you will learn real life economics.
He knows about macroeconomics! You'll learn a lot about macro, but he is gonna screw your grade. And you can't reach him, this time he went to california (lucky ****). Take him if you want to SCREW your grade. The only problem you'll encounter in his is; quizes and exams are absolutely irrelevent to his lecture.
I got a good grade because I studied the book a lot so going to the lecture is pointless b/c he has a thick accent and he mumbles. If you're not willing to read the book word for word on your own and you expect the teacher to teach you something, don't take this class.None of the material on his review sheets ever ends up on the test.
I had taken the Micro class with Dr. Sarna and got an A grade. Last semester, I had taken the Macro class with him and had also got an A grade. Very knowledgeable and I really like his teaching style. I was also amazed to see many students like me were again taking his class. I strongly recommend him. He even wrote recommendations letter for me.
horrible in grading.
The best Prof at NVCC. Highly recommend him. All his exams are MCQs. He is very liberal with grading the presentations and the paper. Your grade clearly reflects your knowledge of the subject. Fortunate to have him teaching at NVCC. Can not afford Georgetown or GWU where he teaches?
no consistency between lectures and exams. he has great ability to make up his mind. attendance is not important, but taking notes is very important. Seems nice, but he messes up the quizzes and exams. If you?re thinking to get an EASY ?A,? he is not the one. If you wanna learn macroeconomics, he is the one.
The Professor knows what his teaching and makes sure everyone understands it. i have to say the Test were a bit hard but i learned a thing or two..not a hard grading professor you just need to earn the grade you want..
If Economics is not something you are into then you should not take his class. Because it's hard he grades on the test grades you have and that's it so you need to have good grades in all of your test or you wont be able to pass.
Very interesting class taught by a very knowledgeable and professional teacher. Thumbs up!!
Amazing profeesor. Very smart, knows his staff!!!! His noted were more than enough for exams!!! Take him!!!!
If you are smart you will LOVE his class. He is an amazing teacher and really understands the concepts. TAKE HIM!! Oh and by smart, I meant not an idiot.
i really enjoyed his class he is VERY knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. always more than happy to explain something.if you take his class, you really need to know how to take notes. if you do you'll be totally fine. just sitting in class and reading the power points wont do. not that he cares, but you really should attend every class
Best ECON teeachers at NOVA.
It;s pointless and its a turn off of learning in economics. If your new to the subject dont take him.
Awesome professor. He is a very intelligent man. His mustache is the most amazing mustache I've seen in my life. Your #1 task is to just listen to his lectures and understanding him, he's really quite clear. My grade to this professor: A+ TL-DR: ~Take this professor. ~
He is a difficult tester. You MUST go to his classes and you MUST pay attention. You WILL learn a lot from him, but he does not "dumb" his classes down. If you have aspirations of going to a top level school, he is the right prof for you. The guy is a big wig in the economics community, so come prepared to learn from a big gun!
Brilliant teacher! Always ready to help...He has a lot of knowledge on the subject....his lectures are very interesting...and he even uses examples from real world! Fav teacher so far!!!
Prof. sarna knew his material, class was all about quizzes, midterm, and final. He did have a final project. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS, you never want to miss anything he says. Explains material very well. Good guy, and is willing to help you out. Material itself is confusing at times but he's there to help. He's your guy.
easy exam ,no homework. nice professor.
Does not like to asked, do not answer questions directly, rather he likes to ask u back when u ask him. He is not a fair person and makes things personal by abusing your grade. I got "B" just because he did not liked me. Zero clarity in his lecture and very difficult test. Can't recommend him, just take another professor any professor,,,,,
I had him for ECO 201 and 202, he's great at explaining the material. I missed the midterm for ECO 201 and rather than giving me a zero, he offered to count my final as two grades to make up for my absence. Great professor!
Great professor. Relates ECO to real life. Simplifies certain topics. Quizzes are very tough, exams are easier. I got an a in his class but you have to understand the material, which is not easy. Also teaches at Georgetown, he's an asset to have at NOVA
best professor ever, i wish i can take all my classes with this guy, his teaching is phenomenal.. Take this guy and you will never regret!! This professor wants you to succeed..
Talks too slowly. His lecture makes u wanna sleep. Boring class. Don't take him
Awesome professor. Cannot find a better instructor then him. Take him as his classes fill out early. Need to attend all classes and be interested in learning. You will really learn Economics.
Boring. He doesn't explain very well. You will fall asleep in class. Trust me. He complicated his tests and quizzes even they are easy
If Economics is not something you are into then you should not take his class. His exams are difficult and you need to attend all classes and take notes. He focuses on understanding the basic concepts in economics. Take him - he is the best you can get in Economics. I had him for Micro and now taking his Macro class.
Great professor, gives real life examples for things. the only grades were 3 quizzes midterm final and a group project, I didn't really study but i never got lower then a 92 percent on the quizzes or midterm. just go to the class and flip through the book you'll be fine
DO NOT TAKE. He will talk down at you if you ask the simplest of questions; he rarely announces quizzes ahead of time after the drop out date has passed (so no one can learn his true intentions early). Picks stupid trivial as well as overly complicated ones that always depend on each other and you fail if you get one of them wrong like a domino.
Great professor. Really no complaints. Clear explanations, clear powerpoints, easier tests than the other sections (i think). Wants everyone to do well and he tells us that he is our "friend". Has a slight accent which may be unclear at times but just listen carefully and you will be fine. If you need to take micro definitely take Sarna.
He is a good professor if you attend the class and show that you are interested in his lectures. He is tough sometimes, but overall he will help you with a grade and will help you if you ask him. Also he doesn't give homework:)
He's a good professor. Keeps things simple. Knows what he is talking about.
Hard class, tricky exams you have to presentation and searching paper then you will get under C , Don't take it.
DO NOT TAKE with this professor please. you did not learn any thing .He will talk down at you if you ask the simplest of questions; he rarely announces quizzes ahead of time after the drop out date has passed (so no one can learn his true intentions early).he makes complicated the course. please don't spend your time with this teacher.
He is the worst professor at nova .please don't take his class 4
Professor Sarna knows his material pretty well and know how to teach it, the only problem is he uses a lot of metaphors to explain his ideas, so if you can co-relate his metaphors to the material you won't have any problems in this class.
Don't take class this professor .Because he is hard grader and he makes complicated the exam .
Enjoy the class. You will learn a lot. The professor cares about the students. If you want to learn real life economics, this is the best class for you clearly and surely an A +. Ask any student who has taken this class with Prof. Sarna.
Great professor. Loved his teaching style. Prof. Sarna also teaches at Georgetown University. It was real economics to get private University education at nova prices. I learnt a lot in this class.
Only a midterm and a final exam but he is a nice person. His lectures are confusing AF and honestly I learned nothing you're better off FINDING THE PDF of the textbook because he doesn't care what edition you have of the book and reading that. Good luck if you have him.
Sarna was great. He explains concepts very well and loves having a constructive dialogue with students. He has a lot of real world knowledge from his time at the World Bank, and a pretty good sense of humor. I would definitely recommend taking him. I loved the class and the teacher.
An excellent professor. Took him for Macro and Global Policies. Prof Sarna cares about his students and made himself readily available for help outside of class hours. He brought his real world knowledge and experiences into the classroom making lectures very interesting. Exams are tough. Lot's of questions that require careful thinking.
Dr. Sarna is definitely in my top list of professors at NVCC. He really makes the material very interesting and explains the material very well. He is an absolute genius when it comes to economics and turns explains material with easy to understand stories. I would recommend this professor!!!
Do yourself a favor, take Alka Gandhi if you are taking Economics. This guy is a shotty professor with barely any communication skills. I am an A student and this guy is better off at itt-tech. This guy bases 70% of your grade off two tests which are different material from the bs he teaches in lecture . He will not reply to emails. Save your money
Economics is my major so I'm very into the material. Lectures were enjoyable for me. Professor Sarna is EXCELLENT. He teaches in a manner that forces you to understand the models and apply them when tested. He doesn't want his students to memorize and then just regurgitate the material come exam time. And his teaching style reflects that. Take him.
Best econ class ever. he is funny, explains the material in a very comprehensible manner, and the tests are very very very easy... as long as you have somewhat paid attention to lecture/read the text book you'll do just fine. Sarna is chair of economics dept. across all NVCC campuses and have been teaching at Georgetown Univ. Will take his ECO 201
I'd definitely take his course if I have to take economics. In his course, you would probably need extra materials to understand what he is talking about.
Professor Sarna rock! He knows the subject well and teaches it even better.
I don't want to say anything bad because he's a nice person, knows his subject well, and leaves time for questions, but I hated this class format. Two tests account for 80% of your grade. He's also bad at dialing it down to your level and constantly gets caught up in metaphors for half a class or more, to the point that you can't pay attention.
Great Professor! His classes are always full. Take him and you will be glad you did. 5 take home online quizzes , two exams and a final. You have all the time to improve your grades and then an extra credit to top it all. I loved his class discussions. I will take his other class on Micro.
Holds decades of experience working closely with foreign governments for related economic matters and also teaches at Georgetown McDonough School of Business. 1 Group Project w paper, Occasional online quizzes, Midterm and Final are crystal clear. You will get an A if you are attentive in lectures. I am taking him for ECO 202.
From the World Bank to Wall Street to working for different international governments + he also teaches at U of MD and Gtown Business( two very prestigious programs mind you). You'd be a fool not to take him. He is so kind, so darn smart and so great at teaching. He truly cares about students- but its hard, lots of studying, but so SO rewarding.
Amazing course taught by a professional economist. You will come back learning "real world" economics. We had 5 quizzes and two class exams. The class is not easy. You will pay the price if you do not attend. Many of the students take him for Microeconomics as well. Take this class if you can - you will be happy you did.
It's crucial that you do well on the midterm and final to get the grade you want. Most of the questions come from the online quizzes so it shouldn't be difficult if you understand the concept. Plus, it's all multiple choice questions. You'll enjoy the group project as well.
Very nice teacher. His style of teaching is good. Ask him as many questions as you like, he will explain it to you clearly. You don't need to take notes. He got power points. I would definitely take his class again.
Professor Sarna is a wonderful professor. I learned many economic concepts AND had fun while doing it. Overall, his class was a great experience. Even though I got a B on the final, I still ended up with an A in the class because I aced every quiz, the midterm, and the group project. I hope that I'll meet him again for grad school at Georgetown.
If you come to class and put in the appropriate amount of effort, anyone can pass his Eco202 course. He does offer a couple of limited extra credit opportunities, but it all comes down to 20% Mid-Term, 20% Final, 20% the result of 4 quizzes, 20% presentation, 20% other. overall, a solid professor. His lecture slides are accessible on Blackboard.
He tries to make you understand the lesson. Sometimes he gets his message across, but sometimes he doesn't. You really have to understand the lessons to be able to pass his exams. You have to do well on exams (midterms and finals) since it takes about 70% of your grade.
He's just great. His classes are fun and he's so nice! I learned a lot from him. I'm going to take another of his classes next semester!!!!!!!!!
The class was test heavy, 70% of your grade was the midterm and final and most of the class doesn't do that well since we don't get much practice outside of class. There are no homework assignments other than the quizzes on blackboard, and there is a group project towards the end of the semester. He was very nice but there wasn't much to grade.
Not a great professor, he has incredibly LONG lectures and RARELY gets to the point. He teaches through vague stories which made it hard to understand the lesson. I could have read the book and understood and been more entertained without showing up to class but his weekly quizzes are specific to the stories he uses. Tests and quizzes are tricky.
Awesome!! You will learn a lot in this class but ensure you do not miss any lectures. All classes are taught with power point which are later shared with class. The lectures are amazing. Prof Sarna has great experience working at World Bank and has taught at Georgetown University. He is the best. Take his class in a heartbeat!
Does not teach in class, goes over a few things before dismissing half an hour early every day. expects you to teach yourself from the book and tests extremely heavy. the average score for his midterm was 23/45 and the final was 29/45. Regardless of the bad scores he still did not curve the grade.
Awesome class and best Professor in Economics. Makes efforts to make you under the material. Extremely helpful. It is a difficult subject and you need a good professor who knows the subject well. Strongly recommend this class.
Naveen is a GOAT, you just have to make sure to pay attention and try. That might include reading the textbook as well. Subject matter isn't always easy and must be memorized. Would like to take him again in an upper-level course
This prof has such an incredible background prior to teaching you can get a lot from him. He also lectures very well. Im not gonna say the class is an easy A, but if you are hungry to learn then take this guy you will learn an abundance. and the work is not that much. Just don't expect to not show up and pass. Study well for the tests. 1 ez grp pj
Mr Naveen is that one teacher you really appreciate at the end of the day when you have other teachers that work you so hard A really good professor gives minimal homework but he does make you buy a book that cost 121 dollars not the end of the world but just be ready great professor would definitely take him again
I took Professor Naveens 6 week course which was taught through zoom. It was a judge free zone and he would always encourage to ask question because he really cared if you didnt understand something. He is respectful and patient! Course was purely a couple quizzes and the midterm and final and one 3 page paper. I would highly recommend
Prof. Sarna makes the class quite easy and the material isn't that challenging.
Sarna does not give extra credit or allow resubmissions. Each assignment takes several hours. Tests were difficult. I reached out to Sarna several times with questions and he gave me vague, careless responses. One time he did not respond at all. I would not retake his class because he is very aloof and doesn't seem to care about students.
Overall class was very easy, I messed up on 2 quizzes out of 10 causing my grade to be 89.5%, and the teacher declined for me to retake or take any extra credit to bump my grade. I tried working out something with him for the .5% but he wouldn't budge. Horrible grader and I didn't learn a single thing from him that semester.
Y'all he is so easy everything is online and the only thing is graded is quizzes and the final and the one essay. if you missed a class or two it won't matter because you can just learn it on your own either through YouTube or google. He is super nice and grades pretty easily :) highly recommend if you want an A!!
Although his lectures are good in class, quizzes base more themselves on the book. You'll have to teach yourself some things or most of the things to get a good grade on the quiz. His class is easy to understand, it is really important to review the book. The exams take a majority of the grade and some of them have silly questions.
The class is genuinely easy but if you don't pay attention than you might fall behind. He does only read off slides and tells you to "review" off the slides and the textbook but they're not very helpful when it comes to quizzes. There are 7 grades total: 4 quizzes, 2 big tests (final/midterm) and an essay. Good guy, but he doesn't teach that well.
Professor Sarna's lectures are hit-or-miss, but the material is manageable. Prioritize the textbook and use helpful resources like Unstuck AI for study prep - they made the quizzes and exams much more doable.
Eco is very conceptual & he's clearly a master. I think he's funny, personable & a good grader. You just GOTTA pay attention, if you miss a concept like elasticity, you'll struggle down the line. Only like 4-5 quizzes, 2 exams. no homework! Funny lectures with interesting examples to help relate to the concepts. I'm taking him again for macro
Professor Sarna deeply wants you to understand economics. His lectures are important to fully digesting these big ideas. Highly recommend! Does not curve. Only a paper, a midterm/final and a few quizzes. READ THE BOOK it helps a lot. I also supplemented with youtube. He really cares about students, if you're struggling, he will personally help.
He gives good lectures, they're understanding and he waits for people to ask questions. He also asks if he can move on and he explains things to anyone that needs help. Overall, I think he was a great professor and I would recommend him.
