Professor Neal is by far the best Psychology Teacher at CSUSM. His Lectures are long but extremely interesting and engaging. If you put in the effort you will for sure pass the class. Ive learned more in his class then Ive learned in alot other psychology classes. There NEEDS to be more professors like him. Definitely take his class.
Professor Dykmans made me love Cognitive psyc by his amazing lectures and his passion towards his teaching. Very caring and overall AMAZING person! Take good notes and you will do great on his exams. All his exams are base on his lecture slides but his final is cumulative and its open notes. There are about 4 article summary papers.
Seriously one of the best professors Ive had at San Marcos. 3 exams, 1 final paper, weekly pop quizzes (I had a 3hr lecture one day a week), and an article review almost every week. Test ?s are literally straight from the lecture slides which he posts online. Supper funny and makes class very enjoyable. Hoping to get him for future classes! 10/10
Neal is an awesome professor who genuinely enjoys what he is teaching and just wants to see his students succeed. he is very understanding and accommodating as long as you communicate with him. pop quizzes every week or so and the book is helpful but the exams are mainly on his lectures.
Neal is wonderful professor. If you like to play games, he is a best teacher for you. Even you dont, he is still great teacher. His lecture is very clear and easy to understand. He will share the slide. Dont worry for the pop quiz, he will tell you before. You better to attend the class because sometime he will give you the extra credit for that.
Neal was an amazing Professor. Despite the challenges of a fully online course during COVID, Neal made the lectures enjoyable, educational, and fun. This course was my favorite of this entire term. I would highly recommend this course and professor!
Going to college in this pandemic has been a nightmare but Neal was my favorite professor this semester and made the class so much fun! He's hilarious and really passionate about teaching and the subject. Highly recommend!
Dr. Dykmans went above and beyond all of the other professors, I had during the Fall 2020 semester at CSUSM. Moreover, he did his job with extreme regard for all of us, students. Communication is critical and super important. He knows. If you need help, talk to him, he will respond and fast. Take his class over any other professor in the same
Dr. Dykmans took over when our other professor left for the semester, so with that being said he took it in stride. He came in and followed our syllabus to the best of his ability. He picked up a broken class and helped to make sure we would be able to learn what we had to. His tests are funny as he makes the questions relatable. Nice guy.
Mr. Neal took over my psych class when my original professor had to take a leave of absence. He created a safe environment to mess up, ask questions, & to reach out. I never once felt like I could not talk to him, & he genuinely cares about students. He is very smart so he can be intimidating but he is a great teacher & knowledgable about a lot!
Neal is such a joy to have as a professor. He is super goofy and is extremely passionate about teaching his students and getting feedback on how he can be a better professor for his students! Online was a breeze! Simple lectures to listen to and assignments are simple! I didn't use the textbook but I loved the lectures and discussions :)
Neal is one my favorite professors! He treats his students as equals and always makes our discussions interesting. I have never met someone who is so good at validating your beliefs while also making you question them. Lectures are long, but assignments and tests are easy A if you participate. He made me want to show up to class every week.
Dr. Dykmans is a very caring ,outgoing, funny professor. He made class go by fast and interesting. This class overall is pretty easy just make sure you study and read. Quizzes every class, 3 exams, 9 to 10 assignments. No long papers. Easy and fun class. I would take this class again. Wish he would teach Lab in cognitive psyc 393.
Dr. Neal Dykmans is pretty cool, i would take him again 100%. If you love video games, you can talk to him about them all you want. It was a long lecture but he was able to keep our attention. He kept the lectures interesting and even offered grad school advice.
Neal is one of my favorite professors this semester. He is very funny and makes listening to lectures a breeze. During the week prepare for 2-3 hour lectures to watch on your own time. He has in-class quizzes that are very easy if you watch the lectures. The hw doesn't take that long. I highly recommend this class!!
Neal is such a great professor! I learned so much from this class and it has changed my perspective on everything. He is very passionate about teaching and correlates the material to real life situations. His lectures could be long at times but they are worth watching. The weekly meetings were much mandatory because there were pop-up quizzes.
Professor Dykmans is by far the best professor I've had so far, I sad to say I won't see him again. I always looked forward to watching his lectures as he actually recorded them for our class not for last years class. Zoom classes were also engaging and very interesting. If you are taking a Psychology class, go with Neal.
I loved having Professor Dykmans for my first Psychology class. His lectures were very interesting and he used lots of examples to help us understand the concepts. He was engaging and funny. I would definitely recommend taking Neal's class, and I hope to have him again.
This professor is literally the best. He is so sweet. I do want to make it clear that just because he is sweet does not mean you'll pass the class. You do have put time into this class and do the assignments. There is 3 exams, 9-10 assignments, and 7-10 quizzes.
Pretty easy class if you just look at his slides, I didn't even buy the textbook and did fine without it. Not a fan of the QALMRIs they were time-consuming and kind of boring to do almost every week. Idk I would have just rather taken quizzes about the actual lectures instead of writing about stuff only somewhat related to it.
Professor Dykmans is great! I took psychology 110 which was an into level but overall it was a blast. there were weekly discussions with quizzes on the material as well as reflective journals weekly that were easy. The lectures were asynchronous but he made them fun to watch AND learn! Would definitely recommend him to anyone taking this class!!
Choose this professor. Seriously. This class was so amazing. I didn't feel as if I was just being told to think critically but the journal assignments actually made me rethink my past biases. The class was welcome to voice their own opinions and everyone was respected. Tests were easy if you watched the links. NEAL IS THE BEST! enough said
Professor Dykmans was a good professor but the lectures he posted used to be quite long and time consuming. Sometimes the class would get heated over certain topics discussed and some sensitive topics would be talked about, and some very odd topics would get brought up as well. The class just wasn't my style but it was useful in certain aspects!
Neal was definitely a fun professor. The class was a bit lecture heavy, but nothing too hard to handle. Every week was the same just a journal and quiz so it was nice to know what was expected. Did have pop quizzes though (they're easy), so you have to show up. Drops your lowest scores & allows extra credit. Do the work and it should be an easy A.
Prof is awesome ! you just need to take the class to see yourself, Neal will recommend to join lectures but not mandatory but we have pop quizzes during lectures. you'd miss out on great lectures. We have a page paper based on readings, lectures, and videos but is super manageable due before class. Very understanding as well and cares . 100% reccom
If you have the chance to take a class with Prof. Dykmans, DO IT! The best professor I have had in my time at CSUSM. Cares about his students and often has discussions after lectures where people can continue the discussions of conversations had in class. There are weekly quizzes, but if you do the assigned 'readings', you'll do great.
If you have the chance to take this class do it! He is the best and class goes by so quickly because of how much you interact with him. You do have to attend class because there are quizzes you have to take during. You can pass this class if you do all the homework and quizzes! Best professor ever.
If you even remotely pay attention youll pass. His lectures are funny and he makes the information memorable. Sometimes the lectures get a little boring because of the lack of in class activities. He is a great professor
a literal king.
Really great professor totally recommend taking him!
Definitely the best professor at csusm. A super smart guy who genuinely loves what hes teaching. Pop quiz pretty much every class but they are like two real questions and one extra credit. Easy A if you give the class the right amount of attention.
I have to say he is probably one of the nerdiest most endearing professors I have ever encountered. His class is well paced. The lectures can be long at times but they are very informative. We have to read research articles and have a quiz nearly every week but you get into the routine of it fairly quickly. I highly recommend his class.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM AND HIS TEACHING! He gives great ways to remember specific terms and truly has an interest for what he is teaching. For online, class was mandatory because we did quizzes during. If you take the time to listen to his lectures, all the class material should be a breeze! Would love to take him again!!!!
Really nice guy & super caring. His lectures aren't the worst but the hw he assigns seems like busywork. They're just reading weekly research articles and answering a million questions, not hard just boring, time-consuming, and didn't really teach me anything. Other than that there are about 3 exams and that's it. Watch his lectures & you're good.
Easily one of the best professors I've had at CSUSM. His lectures are never boring and easy to pay attention to. I would definetly take any of his classes again :)
The most engaging and perceptive professor that I've had the unexpected pleasure of being in the class of. Professor Neal made course material interesting and clear, his lectures hardly feel like a drag, and he always encouraged looking beyond present biases in discussions. Keep up with the material and don't be afraid to speak up in his class!
TAKE THIS TEACHER! Literally the best prof I've ever had. The most funny and nerdy person ever. 3 exams, no final exam, assignments weekly about research articles, the quizzes are during lectures but they are like 3 questions w bonus questions. The lectures are always engaging and I've learned a lot from this professor. If you need help he is there
Very nice and easy professor. He is honestly hilarious and I am always cracking up in his lectures. He is very passionate about what he teaches and cares about his students. His lectures are very long but they are interesting.
Neal is a great professor. He lets his personality shine through in his lectures and it's always a joy to attend the asynchronous meetings. The test is heavily dependent on weekly assignments and tests with weekly short quizzes during the lectures, so be there.
Take this professor! He is great at lectures and really helpful during office hours. He is funny and his lectures are not boring. Class is manageable as long as you stay on task and complete your work on time.
I have a great experience from Dr. Neal' class, he is one of the bests professors in CSUSM, I loved his class, there is a lot of o readings, but aren't bad at all, this class wasn't easy for me, because I'm an ESL student, throughout the semester, he provided me amazing support, he is a really great and caring professor, I recommended his class.
I want this professor to get all the credit he deserves. Class was well organized and nothing given to us was useless. I didn't like the timeline of due dates and when assignments were assigned, but I ended up getting used to it. He gives great feedback and will always talk about the exams through the lectures every time.
Dr. Dykmans is amazing!!! Hands down my favorite professor at CSUSM. His lectures are extremely engaging and interactive, so it makes going to class enjoyable. The class content is extremely interesting as well, and he makes sure to break down anything that students are struggling with.Take any of Dr. Dykmans' classes if you can!!
Professor Dykmans is awesome, super engaging and funny with personal quips, answers all questions and gives good advice outside of class too. Is willing to help with any struggles & moving on after CSUSM. Weekly writing assignment/reading and 3 exams.
I liked Neal's energy. There were pop quizzes once a week, 3 exams, and 10 QALMRI paper summaries that made up the grades. VERY lecture heavy, like you will be sitting there for the entire hour and a half listening to the lecture but the info is important and will be on the quizzes and exams. Come to class and you will do well. Skim the book.
Dr. Dykmans is awesome!!! The best professor in CSUSM. His lecture are super interesting. The class was very organized and all the assignments, quizzes and exams deadline were clearly marked. There will be weekly short quizzes and easy weekly journal assignments. Definitely recommend his class!!
Took Psych 110 from Prof. Dykmans as an online course w/ recorded Zoom lectures & I loved this class. We had one assignment due same day every week, a journal. The assignment was always the same with a new topic. I loved this consistency more than anything. Lectures were entertaining and felt relevant. Perfect class, definitely recommend. I
Professor Dykmans has a very enthusiastic style of teaching. His topics are current and on point. Even though it was an online course he was very engaging and had weekly discussion topics that were very interesting and created a lot of great dialogue between the students. He is very passionate about what he is teaching. His class was my favorite!
He's an awesome professor. His lectures are great and funny. He's a really laid back professor that teaches the concepts super well. I would totally take one of his classes again. Just make sure to do the weekly discussions and journals, along with the quizzes and you'll be great. Exams aren't that hard either.
Neal is a great guy through and through. He is also VERY knowledgeable about the subject, knows literally everything there is to know. He is a little nerdy but he is very cool and funny and listens to his students. The class is not difficult as far as the concepts the tests and quizzes are easy but the written assignments can be a challenge.
I had this professor in my second semester of college. I have always loved psychology classes, but this was definitely my favorite! He was always super helpful, and kind, and really made whoever was truly there to learn more absolutely thrive. If you have any interest PLEASE take this professor!!
Amazing professor! Super funny lectures, super caring, very knowledgable in his field, and always had his students best interests. Would love to take him again. He has weekly quizzes and go to all of his classes its super worth it!
Neal was really understanding and always wanted us to do the best we could, he gave us extra credit and lots of free points, assignments were always due on the same days and were very simple
Professor Dykmans is really knowledgable on the material of the course and makes the lectures really interesting. He communicates the material very effectively and makes it easy to understand. He is one of my favorite professors. I highly recommend taking one of his courses.
Great professor, homework and exams/quizzes are really easy if you pay attention and take notes. Really interesting and fun lectures. Would definitely take again.
Professor Dykmans has to be the best professor that I have taken at CSUSM. His lectures are so entertaining and the course material is super interesting. He truly cares about teaching and does a great job at creating a fun learning environment. There is not a lot of homework, just 1 journal assignment and 1 quiz each week but they are super easy!
Professor Dykmans is so knowledgeable and passionate about everything he teaches! he makes three hour lectures feel like one and he is overall just a great professor!
Professor Dykmans was honestly such a great professor overall. He always tried his best to make the class enjoyable by making jokes. Such an easy class as long as you show up and take notes. Would 100% recommend his class.
Professor Dykmans is awesome! His lectures were entertaining, which is awesome considering his three hour lectures! He truly cares about teaching and it shows! Homework consisted of a quiz and one journal reading + entry (QALMRI method) every week. Three exams overall. I would take this course again in a heartbeat!
Great professor!
Definitely would recommend taking his class! He is a great professor and is really involved in all his lectures, which makes going to class so fun.
Dr. Dykmans is amazing! Just show up to lecture, study for tests and quizzes and ask lots of questions. He is very invested in the success of his students and is always available during office hours.
Neal Dykmans is a great professor, not hard on students at all, and his lectures give a friendly and relaxed setting. While this is my first year as a college student, not having much to compare, this will be my new standard for a good professor.
Awesome professor, and very knowledgeable. The material is engaging and he loves answering any questions. Do the work assigned, show up to class, and study for the exams; you should have no issues. Office hours are available. Totally worth taking, it's a fun class!
Professor Dykmans was a laid back professor and you could tell he's passionate about the lectures and subject. Majority of the time he would go off on tangents during lecture but don't forget to do the journal assignments and quizzes every week.
10/10 would recommend Dr. Neal! Lectures are lengthy but so interesting that time flies by. Goes off on tangents sometimes but they are always tied to the material we are learning. Good sense of humor and easygoing. Also very willing to help students when needed and makes sure concepts are properly understood. Read the book!!
Professor Dykmans made class fun and actually one that I looked forward to. He makes jokes throughout lecture so you don't feel bored the entire time. Great professor and his lectures make it easy to learn. Online tests. One page homework and 3/4 question quiz due once a week, very easy to do.
Neal was an amazing professor. He is incredibly full knowledge in many things related to psych and has a good sense of humor. If you actually listen to his lectures time will fly by. You will even feel inclined to participate in discussions even if you hate speaking in front of people, that is how fun of an environment this class is.
Neal is super passionate about cognitive processes and his passion comes out in his lectures which makes the class really engaging and enjoyable. I would 100% recommend this class. It is fun & because of the way he taught I learned so much. I would recommend taking good notes and attending class, most of the exam questions are from the lectures!
I absolutely loved this professor because he was so easygoing and laid back. His lectures are easy to understand and you won't have a difficult time with this class. There are weekly quizzes and journal assignments but those are just as easy, as long you attend a lecture!
Take good notes and attend class. There are 3 exams, weekly quizzes, and QALMRI assignments. The exam questions are from the lectures and the book! QALMRI was based on assigned articles and he gives great feedback. He is energetic and caring. Time flew by for a 3-hour night class, he made learning fun again! Thank you Dr. Dykmans
Neal is the best! even if you're not interested in Psychology, he will always keep you engaged in his course. He makes lectures feel easy. His grading criteria and course is straight forward. Weekly journal assignments, easy quizzes, and 3 exams. I would shoot for having him as your professor!
Great guy! Very knowledgeable of his field. Clear grading; article reviews, quizzes, and tests. You don't really need the book most questions on tests are from the notes. Attendance isn't mandatory but if a lot of students don't show up he may give answers to a question on a quiz.
The professor gives great explanations about the topics discussed in-class. Actually, he sometimes gave better explanations than the reading itself, so I recommend listening to him in-class. Aside from his understanding, he is a really chill professor and hilarious as well. I really recommend him as a 5-star professor!
Great professor! Every week he will give a lecture and will leave you homework, a journal and a quiz, the quizzes and journals are about the lecture you just had that week, it really helps you understand the material without feeling overwhelmed, he is very well organized and explains things super well. Class is interesting and very fun!
Professor Dykmans is a really reasonable professor who tries his best to makes his lectures engaging and entertaining. You can tell that he truly cares about what he teaches. The quality of lectures is really dependent on how much the class chooses to engage. He likes to open up discussions, so when the students don't talk, the lectures are boring.
Hes very passionate about teaching and is overall an amazing teacher. Homework was easy and fun to do.
He is a great professor, and tries to make his lecture memorable and funny. Once in a while, he gives extra credit for attending class since he does not take attendance. One journal assignment and quiz a week, but due the following week before class. Three exams, evenly divided in class. He is cool. Highly recommend. Do your work, and take notes :)
Neal was such a great professor. He's very engaging and the lectures are very attention grabbing. I recommend this teacher for psych 110 100% there are quizzes everyday (VERY VERY EASY no more than 5-10 questions and you could knock them out in a minute.) and there's also journal assignments every week too. Don't let that discourage you though.
I would take this professor again if I could but sadly I am graduating. He was the most entertaining lecturer and made every class fun and interesting. We had weekly quizzes online for homework as well as weekly assignments. There were a total of 3 exams and thats all. He was the best!
Professor Dykmans is the best psychology professor CSUSM offers.
Professor Dykmans was an excellent professor. He has a very enthusiastic energy towards the material and for lecturing which is an amazing quality. He is always more than happy to clarify any material. Uses other resources as well to make sure the class grasps the material.
amazing professor and made this class very interesting. Quiz and small writing assignment every week but they are both pretty easy. 3 exams and if you go to lectures the structure of the question is very similar if not the same as something he said in class. Attendance not mandatory but he will give extra credit on low attendance days
Professor Dykemans is the best he's such a caring and understanding person. His lectures are great and he's able to explain the material in a way it's understandable for you to learn. Has a quiz and a homework assignment due every week but they are very duable.
he was an amazing professor, i enjoyed going to all of the lectures and listening to every part. he always managed to make class interesting to everyone and he is very easy to understand. hes pretty easy on homework and tests, and hes a very easy going person
Professor Dykmans is by far my favorite professor! His lectures are so engaging and he presents the information in such an interesting manner. There are 3 exams which are all based on lectures and a few textbook questions. Weekly quizzes and QALMRI's serve to help you grasp the material better. Take this professor, he's so kind!
Dr Neal is very passionate about his work and inspires his students to do the same!
He is an amazing professor, great lectures, and throws in corny jokes here n there. I would take him again. He is very passionate at what he does and that is something you want in a professor. Weekly writing assignments and quizzes that are easy, & 3 exams. Attendance is not mandatory, but he will give extra credit if attendance is low.
I only took this class for a GE requirement but I never imagined I would actually like the class. Really great information taught in class and he is very passionate about what he is teaching. Overall, very easy as long as you do the work. One quiz (about 5 questions) and a one-page paper every week. I 100% would recommend this class to anyone.
Honestly loved this class so much and Professor Neal made the class so fun and I really learned a lot from him, take this class with him if you have to, make sure to go too all classes! Honestly have bio complaints at with this class and professors.
I love Neal! He is such a fun professor and makes lectures interesting to listen to. He's super funny and overall a great dude. If you're confused or need help, then talk with him because he's super understanding and gives great feedback.
Mostly everything gets posted on canvas so missing a class will not be the worst thing in the world. He is super nice and respectable and if you are willing to put in effort into papers and test, then you will not have an issue passing this class.
Professor Dykmans is my favorite! His lectures keep you engaged and he is really funny. We had three exams this semester which had material from the lectures and the textbook. The workload is doable, he is there to help you! Take his class!
His lectures keep you engaged and he is really funny. We had three exams this semester which had material from the lectures and the textbook. The workload is doable, he is there to help you! Take his class!
Professor Dykmans was truly the best ever, he made everything so easy to understand and opened up a new passion of Psychology.
By far the best professor I have had so far. His lectures were so entertaining and something to look forward to! I would love to take more classes with him and he made topics relevant to our daily lives. His grading was clear and the exams were very straightforward.
Professor Dykmans is an amazing teacher and I loved his class! I was always inspired by him and his genuine passion for what he was teaching made the class what it is. It was the only class i was actually excited to go to, and his 3 hour class was always entertaining with the way he taught and the jokes/videos he uses in his lecture slides! a 10/10
We would have readings, videos, a quiz and argumentative essay every week, however it was never too overwhelming. Attendance was not mandatory but going to class was 100 percent worth it and made it easy to get an A. Very funny and witty-overall great professor
This class was pretty easy in general. Every week you write a one page essay about fun topics and take a quiz on the lecture. There is no finals just 3 exams that are online. He is funny and a great professor!
He is one of the best professors I have had, and he is very passionate about what he teaches. The lectures were quite entertaining and engaging to participate in. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly encourage you to understand the material proficiently.
Prof. Dykmans is an awesome professor. He was able to keep the class engaged for the 3-hour lectures by making them entertaining. Each week, there was a quiz and a research study to read and answer questions about. Super great prof!!
The lectures are long but the professor tries to make them as engaging and funny as possible. Material is all concept based and the assignments are the same every week with a new topic so once you get the hang of it the class becomes a breeze.
I took Dr. Dykman last semester and he embodies what every professor should be! Not only is he an amazing professor, but he also cares so much about his work and students. He is passionate about his job which shows and makes lectures so intriguing and fun. I wish that I could retake him! He is also super funny! I learned a lot in this class.
He's an awesome professor, who's very interested in students learning and in the course. His lectures are funny and he's very relatable. Very entertaining and it makes you not want to miss class. You need to do the work. It's pretty much just weekly writing assignments and quizzes, and then exams.10/10 recommend this class and would take it again.
Amazing lecturer, really shows that he's super passionate on all the topics. 3 exams, 10 quizzes and 10 writing assignments. Attendance not mandatory, but does random assistance checks. Very clear on what is expected and gives great feedback.
One of the best professors I've ever had. 11 assignments- take long but not bad (lowest one dropped), 10 quizzes, 3 exams & no final. Says attendance is mandatory, but you can get by w skipping a few. He's so funny and makes lectures super engaging. Knows what he's talking about and is very approachable and understanding. Again, AWESOME teacher!!
Course content was genuinely fascinating and his lectures are guaranteed to make you laugh and question the world around you in new ways. Be attentive during lectures and read the textbook. His weekly research reports were challenging but developed my comprehension of scientific literature immensely. Thank you Dr. Dykmans!!
Prof Dykmans is an amazing professor who simplifies complex topics, making them easy to understand and remember even after class. His support in understanding research articles is invaluable, especially for non-native English speakers like myself. He is super passionate and really cares about his students! Def take him if you want to learn!
DO NOT BE FULLED BY PRIOR REVIEWS, this professor has completely flipped this semester. All assignments/exams are online but close to the end of sem. he began to accuse students of cheating, manipulated ppl with fear of expulsion. He was treating everyone terribly after that. His classroom dynamic is overly friendly and awkward. dont do it
Great instructor. Would absolutely take his class again. His lectures were so interesting and he was very engaging and funny. He is very clearly intelligent and is a smart professor. His powerpoints/lectures are very intentional and helpful to learn the material. It is not an easy class but he makes it a little easier I would take his classes again
Prof. Dykmans is one of those professors that is insanely likable, he has a fun loving teaching style but can be strict when necessary. He has weekly QALMRIs that can be an absolute pain. The average grade for the QALMRIs was about a 6.7/10 across every student for all 11 of them so don't feel bad if you don't do well on them.
HW, quizzes/ exams are not online anymore. I got a bad anxiety attack towards the end of the semester bc he was threatening to expel people for cheating, no one knew what he was referring to though he was demanding ppl to come clean. most of the class is just him trying to be funny and get ppl to laugh at his awk jokes.
Wanted to like this prof but as the semester went on I liked him much less. Lectures are hard to follow, you have to attend as the exams are lecture heavy. Stated that attendance was not required, but at the end of the semester there was an attendance grade. There was a cheating scandal that he did NOT handle well. He's a bit fake and phony.
I learned a lot in this class, but towards the end, he accused the entire class of cheating. Even though I knew I didn't cheat, it caused a lot of anxiety for me. His handling of the situation was unprofessional; he threatened to expel students unless they confessed. While he is knowledgeable & passionate, I believe his approach was not acceptable.
Things were good until the end of the semester. He accused the entire class of cheating and was threatening and ranting that if people didn't come forward, he would expel them (he ended up expelling 11 people). While I didn't cheat, it gave me extreme anxiety. His tests are also heavy lecture-based and have a lot of trick/double-barrel questions.
my class was accused of cheating. I already suffer from anxiety and I developed more intense anxiety related to school, exams and work because of this. He went on to say there would be investigations and he could see students geographical locations on canvas (which I felt was an invasion of privacy).
Neal is such a great professor. It is sort of lecture heavy but overall manageable, we still had all quizzes and tests online because he gives his students the benefit of the doubt (after what happened, so don't be dumb). 4 test, quiz and a short paper (easy if you follow the example) every week :) if ur gonna miss hw talk to him & he'll understand
horrible professor, has office hours but doesnt make it on time and has to cut the time short because theres so many students in line, 3 exams, 13 papers, 10 quizzes but the class is dependant of just exams which explains why the majority of the class is failing. do not take
He is a very nice professor but making us write an essay every week sucks.
Very funny and genuinely good at explaining and demonstrating the content he lectures on. Also very fun and cooperative to work with during office hours or even during class dicsussions. I took his Critical Thinking in Psychology class which is very lecture-oriented, but honestly I was able to be engaged through each one. 10/10 he knows pokemon
The quizzes and exams were very lecture-heavy. Assigned readings will be included on exams and exams so read over the material! The essays were a bit challenging because his rubric was very broad and didn't give specific instructions. He tries to make lectures fun and engaging for his students. He also takes attendance randomly so be aware.
Amazing professor who cares about his students learning. Approachable and funny. Great class and super fascinating.
Cognitive processes was a really fun and interesting class. Dr. Neal is very kind and passionate about what he teaches so his lectures are never boring. I would definitely recommend taking this course with him. His class is truly set up for you to learn important knowledge and skills that will help you succeed.
Epic teacher with cool and memorable lectures. There is a weekly quiz and one-page essay. There are 3 total exams and the final is non-accumulative. There's a free textbook in canvas for us and we also use content from videos. The videos are all fairly short and usually are interesting. Would take his class again happily if I didn't already pass :)
He loves teaching and passionate about what he does. Expect weekly quizzes and argumentative essays about different topics he includes in his lecture slides. About 3 exams, they are based off the TED Talk videos, reading, and quizzes.
Prof. Dykmans has a unique teaching style - he's engaging and funny, but can also be strict. The QALMRIs are tough, but using unstuck ai alongside the textbook helped me prepare. Overall, an enjoyable class if you stay on top of the work.
Funny professor that really knows what he's talking about, grading criteria is clearly stated and MUST be followed 100% to get a good grade. Tests are heavy grade based off lectures and videos.
He had his moments of comedy but those were rare. Massive agenda pusher and while he said he encourages a Devil's Advocate mindset, was visibly upset upon hearing any ideas that contradicted his. Multiple times on tests where the answer was obvious but based on his incorrect lectures so had to answer a separate way just to earn the points.
Love this guy! His lectures were entertaining and engaging and you can tell he cares about what he's teaching. If you read/watch everything he assigns and pay attention in class this should be an easy A. You will get the grade you work for in this class. There's a 10 question quiz and a written assignment each week and 3 exams during the semester.
Funny guy! There are 3 exams throughout the semester based on slides and assigned videos/readings. Written assignments are given during class or assigned on Canvas. If you have the opportunity to take his class, I 100% recommend. You'll receive a grade based on the effort you put into class!!
If you actually into psychology you'll like this class. He makes the class entertaining and interesting. He'd have an attendance quiz at the end of some classes but not every time and I don't think they affected your grade that much. Overall I'd take it again.
Although he doesn't take attendance, he sometimes has in-class written assignments that you have to turn in, and that's how he takes "attendance". Very interactive slides and always has interesting topics. The exam questions are difficult and sometimes tricky. He also has weekly quizzes, but they are on Canvas. Overall, a great professor.
He's a great professor! His lectures are very long and he is kind of hard to hear since our class was in a lecture room and it would be full. Written assignments are given in class and it counts as an attendance grade so if you miss it will drop your grade down by a lot. There are no make up assignments unless there is a doctor note (or any note).
From a honest review he was a great teacher! I would definitely take him again, the only thing is that he likes to talk about topics in DEPTH and will go on an on about a term/ concept, honestly though, this helped me personally and I looked at that as a positive. Just take notes in class and on the readings and you're gonna do great.
Professor Dykmans has to be one of the best teachers I've had. His lectures are easy to follow. Chapters may be a little long but he gives you a week before another chapter is assigned. The ELI5's arent too bad. He didn't take attendance but occasionally he'll give out a quiz (easy). The content of this class can be a lot but you're in good hands!
Every single one of his lectures had the right balance of insightful and entertaining. He made learning the topics less of a requirement and more something you might want to know more about out of pure curiosity, and he's not a tough grader either, as long as you put in the work. Overall, I would retake his class if I could.
Horrible class. Take another class if you need credits. The grading is confusing, and the discussion posts are not graded off on completion and the word count like every other class. His comments do not help you do better either. He reads off his slides and talks super slowly, so lectures are long. The workload is intensive.
Absolutely horrible! Never again! He doesn't even know how to teach or guide anyone.
He seems like a nice person but teaching is not his thing sadly..... he goes really fast on lectures. I went to every class and I was lost most of the time. I am not sure why his rating is so high.
I would walk across the street without looking both ways on the way to his class from my dorm
He's honestly the worse professor Ive had. He doesnt really teach besides just going over slideshows. I would ask him questions and he would made me feel dumb for asking.
He is very kind and helpful if you go to his office hours. His QALMRIs were a bit confusing & time consuming at times, but reasonable if you actually take the time to read the assigned articles a few times. Very passionate about what he teaches and he can go over a concept again if you are confused during lecture. Recommend him for any course!
His tests r hilariously bad, we just took one today that didn't include terms or ideas but how well can the teacher write the most confusing questions. I don't understand how I can spend hours on content and never see them in a test. Meanwhile only an handful of ideas are repeated over and over? Cool guy, but wow he is so bad at making tests.
I loved this class. You can tell he really cares about his students and also is very knowledgeable about the subject. He makes lectures interesting and the work includes online quizzes and one page papers that are easy and straightforward. He's and easy grader and I really loved this class. One of my favorite professors.
If you are taking this as a GE and are not a psych major, I do not recommend this professor. Prof Dykmans is very knowledgeable and passionate about psych and also expects you to be too. He assigns lots of readings and videos to do on your own time and lots of the exam questions are on those assignments outside of lecture. Lots to remember.
Best professor I've had. Super funny, super knowledgeable about psychology, the lectures are actually interesting and something I look forward to each week. You get weekly assignments, but the workload is average. Know that his class is application-heavy instead of just memorization, but it helps with actually understanding the material.
Easily the best professor I have ever had, was very personable even in a large auditorium style class. I looked forward to every lecture, because he is hilarious and you can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching. You can be successful in this class if you show up every class and pay attention.
- I like his lectures; they go into detail and upload them online, so the student doesn't fall behind. - I hope his upcoming years will go great for other students taking the professor's classes.
- The professor uploads the lectures, so students don't fall behind. - The professor goes into detail on the subjects. Hope students take this class when they want a cool professor (I had to make an account to submit.)
This class is fine if you're just looking for an easy A. The professor is super focused on being liked by students, which makes the vibe pretty relaxed, but it also means the material isn't taken very seriously. You don't walk away with much actual knowledge, and the lectures feel more like keeping everyone happy than digging into the subject.
This professor is approachable and clearly wants students to enjoy the class, but the focus seems more on being liked than on delivering rigorous content. The workload is light, and it's not difficult to earn a good grade. However, the lectures don't go very deep. He is a good option for GPA protection, but definitely less so for academic growth.
Genuinely cares about his students and puts a lot of effort into his lectures. Really funny guy and keeps class entertaining. If you go to class and take notes you're pretty much guaranteed to pass.
Amazing professor! He makes his lectures very entertaining. Everything you need to know will come mainly from his slides and quizzes. He does assign some reading material and video which are important because they will be on the exam. There are writing assignments which are important to your grade and he usually assigns them in class! Show up!
This was a really good class, there was a lot of material to be learned. Quizzes and written assignments were given weekly and there were a total of 3 exams. The prof is nice and engages in discussion well and with interest!
Prof. Dykmans is one of the best I've ever taken. His class is lecture-heavy, yet he makes it engaging. While attendance isn't taken, there are unannounced in-class assignments, activities, or quizzes for points, so I recommend showing up. He is so understanding and caring, especially with needing to make up things due to unforeseen circumstances.
Prof. Dykmans is so caring and understanding; he cares a lot about his students, especially when unforeseen circumstances arise. His class is lecture-heavy, and attendance isn't mandatory, but it's recommended due to sporadic in-class assignments/quizzes. His exams are simple but definitely something you need to study for/have good comprehension.
Professor Dykmans has truly been on of my best professors this semester. His lectures do run long, but they are fun and so is he. If you do all the work and required readings you should do well in the class! Would definitely take another class with him.
The BEST prof. and my favorite professor Ive had here at this school. He is very lecture heavy but the material is so interesting and he truly takes his time making his slides. For those who are saying you don't learn much is probs bc they sat in the back doing nothing. The tests do come from text book material so you do have to read it.
goes on rants/tangents so we could barely finish the lecture. Most of the material I learned came from the book. The slides were like a whole paragraph/ not bullet points, you are basically reading another textbook. Tough grading on writing assignments that I believe the TA grades because she would comment. He's a great guy but class was not fun
Class felt like attending open mic night where the performer never gets to the punchline. Tangents everywhere, so the actual lecture content was MIA. Slides were essays in disguise, no bullets, just blocks of text. He's a cool guy to chat with, but as a professor… let's just say the vibes weren't it
Professor Dykmans (Neal) is a great person and a decent professor, he makes a lot of jokes that sometimes don't land but it's fine. Lectures often aren't finished in one period due to side tangents so will need to look on your own. Attendance is "mandatory" as you can a hundred percent learn everything yourself, but he might dock you randomly.
Super nice, 10/10
Honestly, just take someone else.
Dr. Dykmans is definitely a hit-or-miss professor. Personally, I didn't mind him; he's just super passionate about the material, so he'll go on tangents pretty often. Attendance is "mandatory", but I usually did not attend. The material is accessible on Canvas, so I was able to teach myself through the slides and textbook.
