Good class, missing a class won't hurt you as far as the exams go. There are online quizzes and you need to be there for those.
Overall, Eash is a great professor. He provides a lot of extra credit and gives you possible test questions to bring to every lecture. He states grades are correlated with attendance, however he does not take attendance, just has random quizzes that are open for the last 30 minutes of classes.
The class is very interesting and informative. The lectures go by very quickly and can be hard to catch all the notes. There are many extra credit opportunities that give you a chance to improve your grade.
Gives plenty of extra credit. Lectures are a bit boring. Attendance is not mandatory. Goes off on random rants. Easy class. No reason to not get an A
Dr. Eash is a really interesting lecturer and tries to make class interesting. His tests are harder than you'd expect, but he does give extra credit and easy assignments to balance that out.
Provides example exam questions that are answered in lecture, makes it easy to study for exams. Easy, short, online, in-class quizzes, a couple of assignments outside of class, none of which are anything major.
Dr. Eash is very knowledgeable and has great life experiences which make lectures valuable and interesting. His vast traveling gives him a great perspective on many of the class topics. The exams are a little tricky but extra credit makes up for it.
Goes on rants that aren't specific to the class, but they added to the enjoyment of the class. A few short papers. Multiple Choice Exams. Multiple assignments that involve action outside of the class period (visiting a restaurant, McClung Museum, etc.) at non-specific times throughout the semester.
I'm a senior this year, and Dr. Eash has beat out everyone as my favorite professor I've ever had. The material in 334 is the hardest junk, I'm an AG Education major and not soil science, but he goes out of the way to make sure you understand it, enjoy it, and learn it. His stories are awesome, his heart is golden, and his class is great! Take him.
An easy class and very enjoyable lectures. He practically coppies the information from old tests and reuses it every time.
He will go very fast through lectures so you better have a quick hand or be a quick typer! I would advise making a GroupMe and inviting the entire class in it because studying for tests is better that way since you can share notes.
Eash goes very quickly during lecture so I would suggest bringing your laptop for notes. However, he does post "possible exam questions" for each lecture that helps you get the main points of each lecture. There are quite a few quizzes and they are based on the readings from the two text books. The good news, there is lots of extra credit!
All he does is tell random stories about dirt in Africa. That's about it. His exams are tougher than they should be for a gen-ed but he gives a lot of extra credit. Do the extra credit and you will be fine. Don't waste money on whatever books you are supposed to buy. It is annoying how much we have to do external activities and monetary spending.
Hes a great guy. He cares about his students. He makes himself accessible. I really enjoyed taking his class and it wasnt very hard. All the exams were multiple choice. Eash is Great. 10/10 would recommend.
Dr. Eash is an extremely knowledgeable professor. He has traveled the world working in his field and he knows just about anything when it comes to Soil Sciences. Other people in class believes he talks too fast but I dont think so. He goes on tangents about past experiences but they relate back to the course. Great teacher just listen in class.
Pretty easy class. Gives a bunch of useful things to pass his exam with. Informative. Cares about what he is teaching you. Gives possible exam questions for each lecture so you know what is important. Pretty cool guy, v nice. Will work with you on pretty much anything if you have a problem. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
He really cares about his students and always asks for our feedback on assignments and projects. His lectures can be kind of unorganized but he posts questions to use for his powerpoints and uses those questions to make the tests. Going to class is a must or you will not get the answers you need. Some assignments are out of class and mandatory.
Classes are a blast as he makes real life example stories funny and useful. Labs can be a pain but he will walk you through them and test are not the easiest but if you pay attention during class you will be ok. Stand up to him and defend your stance and you might just get a few points back on a test with a bad question.
He did a good job
He makes class really interesting and relays it back to real life examples. He is always willing to help his students. The tests can be tricky but just study the example questions. Lots of extra credit is offered.
He's a great teacher and you can learn a lot from him because all of his personal experiences. I enjoyed his lectures and seeing pictures of his own traveling he has done around the world. He is a very knowledgeable about the subject and cares a lot about it. Not a hard class, just study and enjoy his stories!
Very sporadic lectures, but you can tell he cares and wants you to learn. Good guy but did not enjoy the class honestly.
Class participation required for quizzes
Fair professor. Class participation required for quizzes
Tests are a lot of memorization, not my biggest strong suit, but professor is super awesome.
My only issue was there are a lot of small online and out of class things to keep up with, for someone scatterbrained like me it's taken a toll on my grade. He's an interesting lecturer and a very nice guy. Go to his office hours if you're having problems and he really nice and helpful.
Dr. Eash doesn't have a lot of assignments so you have to do good on them to keep your grade up. Need to study to get a good grade on tests. Gives LOTS of extra credit. Also has a pop quizzes at least once a week.
Dr. Eash is a great professor. He goes off on tangents sometimes, but who doesn't. Give a lot of extra credit opportunities and is really helpful if you go and talk to him. would take him again.
Eash is a pretty interesting character. He can get off topic a lot during lectures, but overall this is a pretty easy topic so as long as you try to pay attention and study your notes, it should be fine. Plus, he gives tons of extra credit opportunities so it's nearly impossible to do terribly in this class. Read the book for the quizzes and tests.
Funny dude who loves what he does, which shows in his lectures. Passionate about student growth and development as intellectuals and inhabitants of the Earth.
Dr. Eash is awesome. He is super funny and chill. He wants you to have an opinion. He is even an awesome person to talk to just because!
Honestly, he didn't know what the hell he was teaching. He didn't know what was on the syllabus, told random stories all the time, and made ridiculous alternate assignments for people who wanted to avoid leaving campus for dumb assignments. The class has plenty of extra credit, but that's about the only good thing.
Eash is a really cool guy, if you show up to the lectures you'll be fine in this class.
If you go to every lecture and do all of the assignments and extra credit, you will get an A. He assigns plenty of extra credit to make up for missed quizzes and bad exam scores.
Eash is a stand-up guy. He cares about his students and is passionate about what he teaches. He's definitely unique, and his lectures do cover a lot of material. If you attend, pay attention and try, you'll pass. He also offers a lot of EC opportunities. Easy A.
Caring & understanding teacher. There is a lot of information. Most of the things he requires are eye opening and force you to do something that you normally wouldn't, which turns out to be a good thing in this class. Go to class, pay attention, & do what is required, along with taking advantage of all the extra credit. Good class & good teacher.
A lot of extra credit, easy quizzes/papers, and exams come from the study questions he provides.
Great guy and great teacher.
Uses A LOT of extra credit, do those and you should do well in the class. Very passionate teacher! Lots of quizzes though
This is a very easy class, but it is easy to lose track of when things are due, so my advice is to stay on top of when assignments are due.
If you don't attend class, he will hit you with some random questions on the exam that were only discussed in lectures and won't be mentioned in the study guide questions. Aside from that, very easy and interesting class.
He makes you go to 2 restaurants for a grade and you have to buy food with your own money and I got ecoli from it. A lot of assignments. Puts quizzes up online and only have 5 minutes to take. He does not grade anything his TAs do and they never are able to back up why you get pints off for an assignment.
You wont pass the tests because you wont care enough to study for them. Do the extra credit he assigns and youll be fine. Easy to make a good grade and he wants you to pass.
Dr. Eash lectures primarily off life experience, so make sure you pay attention to the powerpoints! Also, there are random quizzes over lectures, but they are online so you don't have to be there, but your grade will probably be better if you do go, but its up to you tbh. Also, he gives SOOOO many extra credit opportunities.
Good class, just do the work
Gives a lot of extra credit
lots of extra credit opportunities. exams are fair and based on the lectures' questions. pop quizzes occasionally, but can be accessed on the line.
Seems like it will be hard at the beginning of the semester, but it really is an easy A with all the extra credit. Eash makes you do stuff outside of class but they are good activities and you get to eat at Holy Land Market. Neal Eash 2/2.
Easy class
Not a bad teaher just a boring subject. Some assignments are pretty senseless.
I took this class to boost my GPA, but I didn't take it seriously in the beginning of the year so I am not doing quite as well as I could. That being said, if you just show up to lecture to participate in the pop quizzes/random extra credit opportunities and study a fair amount, you will ace it. Eash is easy to talk to if you have any questions.
Pretty boring lectures. Test are not hard. Provides plenty of extra credit. Easy class overall.
Show up to class and you won't have any issues. He goes very fast through the notes so be attentive and does not put them online. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
Not a hard class, but very hard to pay attention to. Doesn't really post notes which can make it somewhat stressful.
Dr. Eash is a nice guy who loves to talk. He tends to ramble in lectures, which isn't always a bad thing, but if you remind him to stay on subject, he's good at respecting that. Memorize everything using any mnemonic tricks you can because that's all you need to do to pass the tests. There is no learning, just memorization of random things.
Professor Eash can get off topic in lecture but when he does its usually with personal stories that relate to what he is talking about. It is not that hard of a class if you show up and pay attention to the example questions he gives you to fill out. I would definitely take him again. Great guy and great professor.
Very interesting lectures. Do a lot of stuff out of class. Show up to class and do the work.
Decent class, would definitely take again. All the extra credit is great.
Easy class, offers lots of extra credit
Nice guy
Tough, but for good reason. Very understanding about assignments.
He is a good teacher and means well.
He is very eccentric but is really funny and has great stories.
Can get off topic at times, but a legitimately interesting class to take. Solid choice to get a gen-ed out of the way.
Dr. Eash is an excellent Professor. He engages the students by his stories and by always giving out extra credit!
Easy class if you do the work. offers lots of extra credit throughout the whole year!
He gives lots of extra credit.
Nothing more to say
Great guy. Very understanding and a great class to take
Great class. Dr. Eash is a fantastic teacher.
The class was reasonable and a lot of extra credit is offered.
There was a lot of reading for this class.
He can go on tangents but the class was easy and interesting, I would take it again
This class was fairly easy. Lecture are long but useful to pass. No consistent homework but a lot of assignments that involve volunteering and exploring.
Was a fun class
If you show up it's almost impossible to fail
Lots of lecture but not too thought, also gives lots of EC.
Dr. Eash is awesome and very goofy! His class is pretty straight forward and requires you to simply study the questions he poses in his lecture PowerPoints to pass. Simple writing assignments and tons of extra credit! Easy class and a great teacher!
I enjoyed the course, but hes goes through his powerpoints/material VERY quickly
Lots of extra credit, wont pass the exams if you dont study, and he can be funny from time to time.
The lectures do not really go totgether but if you are looking for an easy A I would take this class. He gives a lot of extra credit and papers to fill out during lecture with the exact questions that will be on each exam. Pretty average class overall.
He's a really interesting guy, but the lecture material is pretty boring. He pulls questions from his 'outline' he provides, so its easy to not go to class but still do okay. There is also good opportunity for easy points and crazy amounts extra credit, so getting an A is reasonable.
Fairly easy class. Lectures are good but can be too long sometimes.
While Dr. Eash can go off on many tangents, he always covers what you will be tested on. He gives clear powerpoint presentations that include questions to be answered by the students. This encourages students to stay on task but can often be presented too quickly. Take pictures of the slides and fill in the study guides after class.
I enjoyed the course, but he's a quick talker and goes through his powerpoints/material VERY quickly.
Literally the more lenient professor at this school. I promise he gave up 60+ points of extra credit. Tells a lot of stories but honestly theyre kind of interesting and if you dont want to hear them then dont go to class. You dont need the books. The students kind of take advantage of him and are rude so be nice :)
Eash is not bad, he gives a lot of extra credit assignments and most of the assignments he gives us isn't hard. If you don't have the book it's okay, just show up to class and make sure you're paying attention and answer his questions. You will have assignments that you have to do outside of class like buying food and helping the communityKARM
Awesome choice for a gen-ed requirement
Dr. Eash was a decent teacher. His lectures are long and boring. Even though attendance isn't mandatory it will impact your grade if you don't go. He is pretty lienent and offers a good bit of extra credit. Be prepared for a few assignments that are off campus, one of which costs about $8-15. Most assignments involve short essays.
He gives random quizzes so it's important to go to class or make sure you pay attention to see if there is a quiz on Canvas that day to take it. Test exam questions are posted for each lecture so those are the biggest things to study. He gave a lot of extra credit assignments
The class is fine. However, I do think its a little more time consuming than I expected from a general education class.
He gives study questions you answer throughout class to guide your studying for exams. Otherwise, you get no notes. Reading the textbook wasnt all that necessary, but its worth listening to tiny details given in class that study questions dont cover. Moderate number of exams and lots of extra credit opportunities. Really cares about his students
Eash is a great professor. He does get off topic a little but its no big deal. Gove a lot of terra credit opportunities so take advantage of those! He is easy to talk to if you have a question and actually answers your questions instead of going around it like most professors do. Overall great teacher! Not hard to make an A!
The class is easy. He has lots of quizzes to encourage you to go to class, but it's technically not mandatory and he drops some so it's no big deal if you miss a class. Tests are straightforward and he gives tons of extra credit opportunities. No reason to do poorly in his class.
Good prof, knows what hes talking about. Lots of extra credit opportunity.
It is a relatively easy class if you actually do the work. I made a high B and only attended about 10 classes. But that is primarily due to the whole class working together through Groupme. There are a lot of out of class assignments, but just as many extra credit opportunities. You will only fail the class if you just don't try.
Easy class. If you show up youll pass. Make sure to join the class group me and google doc. Easy A if you do everything.
Dr. Eash is very interesting in lecture, he gives great information, but can get off on tangents. He also gives extra credit like crazy!
Dr. Eash really knows his stuff and is passionate about what he does . His class is very straightforward and easy to get a good grade if you do the assignments and study a little for the tests.
Great teacher, very well respected in his field and is a very fun and outgoing teacher.
ESS120 With Dr. Eash is very easy. He offers tons of extra credit. The exams are straightforward and attendance is technically not mandatory. No reason to do poorly.
Fun lectures, lots of opportunities for grades, 4 tests total including final, several in-class quizzes on canvas, chill guy.
Pay attention to the potential exam questions he gives you before lectures and you will do well on the tests. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. Interesting lectures.
Lectures aren't posted, so unless someone is taking notes for the class good notes are required to do well on any exams. Lectures are long and hard to follow - he really just tells stories. Lots of extra assignments to boost your grade and lots of extra credit offered so not hard to get a decent grade even if you do poorly on tests.
His lectures are a little boring but he gives you possible exam questions to listen for just fill them out, study them and do the assignments
If you study for the tests, you should do fine. He posts study questions to guide you through each lecture and to use as a study guide for the exams. Eash gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and is pretty flexible regarding deadlines.
I thought it was interesting to learn from Mr. Eash.
Every class is a lecture, lots of EC points, just do the work and youll pass. Use GroupMe
Hes such a funny guy. He gives a lot of extra credit, and overall the class is pretty easy. You will love this man by the end of the semester. What a god.
Expect many pop quizzes at the end of lecture so attendance is important. He tends to ramble sometimes but overall the class isn't hard as long as you are prepared for the tests.
It was an alright class
Learned some cool things in this class. Relevant material to our daily lives which makes Gen Eds a little better to take in the midst of a busy schedule. Eash is very knowledgeable about the topics but can get off track. Lets class out early most days.
Eash likes to talk a lot! He definitely loves to explain things that he has done in his life. The exams are pretty difficult, he gives enough extra credit to make up for the hard exams. He is an overall good teacher and wants to help the students he has. He really cares about how you feel about his class and is willing to change things.
Soils and civilizations is an okay class to take, not too difficult, but a lot of outside stuff is required like karm and eating at the gosh and holy land. Dr. Eash likes to tell a lot of back stories in his lectures about something he did that kinda relates to the lecture. Test are basically off possible exam questions he puts on canvas.
A very smart guy with a lot to offer although he rambles a lot. No need for the text book just make sure you take good notes. He goes over the slides very fast and doesn't post lectures so I would recommend taking pictures of the slides then taking the notes at your own time. Easy class, lots of extra credit opportunities.
I really enjoyed Dr. Eash's lectures. He tends to go on tangents but they are relevant to the lecture and make the class more enjoyable. He is very passionate about the content of the class and offers tons of extra credit and easy out of class assignments to balance out the tests and quizzes.
I enjoyed Dr. Eash. The class is relatively easy if you pay attention during lecture and study a decent amount. The tests are pretty straight forward and all multiple choice. There's probably about 1 pop quiz each week. He also offers lots of extra credit.
Eash as a cool dude, there are many extra credit opportunities as well as lots of various assignments to cushion exam grades, and he and the TAs are pretty lenient graders. The only semi-negative thing about the class was that he lectures pretty fast so it can be a bit hard to follow sometimes but you get used to it and that's just who he is.
Dr. Eash is the man he makes a very boring subject interesting and relevant . he also breaks up long lectures with funny anecdotal stories and he has plenty.
This class is honestly out of date and his style of teaching is not engaging. This is a good class for an easy A because there are a lot of Rea sources to help you through it but otherwise youre listing to what this old guy thinks is pretty cool
Eash is great! he cares about his students. He provides loads of extra credit and he literally gives your a list of possible exam questions before each lecture so you can fill them out as he's talking. The exams aren't a breeze but they're not terrible either. Study well and use GroupMe. Also, don't buy the book, we haven't needed it once.
Eash is a great professor. He teaches what he is passionate about, making class entertaining each day. You will get an A in the class if you do all the assignments and complete all the extra credit. DONT BE A LAZY BUM
Dr. Eash is a nice guy and the class is not difficult as long as you follow the syllabus and study the possible exam questions (given each lecture).
Test are easy if you study.
Very interesting professor! Liked all the extra credit he gave really saved my grade!
The only reason to not get an A in this class is if you don't go to class.
Good guy. Go to class and you won't have any problems.
You get the grade you deserve.
Enjoyed the class. Do the extra credit.
In my opinion professor Eash taught the course well for the most part. Students complained that he would get off task or ramble about some story, but he was trying to connect the in class material to his experiences in the real world which is helpful to me. Overall somewhat interesting class and Eash was more than fair and gave ample extra credit.
I took soils and civs from Dr. Eash. Definitely worth taking. Just show up pay attention and put forth some effort and you should be fine.
He provides a list of possible exam questions for each lecture, which are very helpful, but he goes through his lecture so quickly that its sometimes difficult to write down the answer to every question. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he doesn't post his lectures online and he often has quizzes at the end of lecture.
Interesting lectures, and the class is very easy as long as you do the extra credit he offers. Quizzes happen regularly during the lectures. There are papers, but they are relatively quick and simple. Would take again.
Easy class but does take some time outside of class to succeed.
This class was by far my favorite this semester. As long as you show up, pay attention, and do the assignments you will be perfectly fine with an A. If you actually listen to him during lectures you'll see he is full of wisdom and has done some incredible things in his life. Also, he's willing to help if you ever need anything.
After almost every lecture there is a quiz, and those are nice grade boosts if you dont't forget to take them. lectures are really interesting, and you learn a lot about the world you live in and food sustainabilty. Also provides numerous extra credit opportunities. You are also required to volunteer at a shelter serving food which is great.
Very good at getting information across. Super nice and cares about all his students, even thought there are up to 400+ in hiss class. Go to his office ours! Sometimes goes on tangents and gets sidetracked during lectures, a little confusing at times.
Just keep up with the lectures and you'll do fine
Attendance is not madatory but announced quizes are given at the end of some classes.
If you show up to class and pay attention you will have no problem. You will learn some interesting things! Neal Eash does everything he can to make sure people pass with some assignments and extra credit. Good choice for cultures/civilization credit
He is a cool dude, His office hours are earily, so that's a bit weird, but he is willing to work with you. If you can't get a paper done in the time, he will work with you on the deadline. His tests are hard, but if you work hard on the papers, you get a 100 on them, so it balances out the grades. He knows his stuff and likes to tell stories.
Interesting class. You'll need to pay attention in class because the slides are not posted online.
This class had nothing to do with my major, however I still enjoyed taking it. Dr. Eash is a really good person, and wants the best for all his students. He offers many opportunities for extra credit. Basically, if you come to class and pay attention at all, you will make a good grade.
Interesting guy. Follow along in lecture and youll be fine.
His lectures can be boring sometimes, but as long as you keep up with the quizzes and study a bit for the exams, youll be fine. He gives out a lot of extra credit throughout the semester. Hes a sweet man.
He gives out the questions he expects the students to know before every lecture. He gives extra credit throughout the class.
Easy class. Lots of quizzes. Pretty entertaining guy.
If you do the extra credit and all the assignments you will be fine.
Kind of a difficult class but he offers so much extra credit opportunities that it makes up for how hard the test are. Just go to class and take the lecture notes and you should be ok. He's very willing to work with you and overall a great guy.
This class was dumb easy. Professor is super chill and actually into what he is teaching. If you somehow don't do well on the exams do all the extra cedit a you should end up with AT LEAST a B+ There are pop quizzes so show up to class. AND he drops the lowest 3 quiz grades.
He is such a great guy who is very passionate about what he does. I took this for an easy A, but you do have to study for the exams and I haven't done the greatest on the exams. However, he gives a lot of extra credit which is easy to get the maximum amount of credit if you do it.
Professor Eash is great! This class is interesting and an easy A if you study for the exams. He offers tons of opportunities for extra credit. There are quizzes after lectures, 2 papers, and 3 exams. The final is during class with an optional EC final during finals week. Definitely recommend.
Hes great and tells a lot of funny stories
2 papers, 3 tests plus a final, lots of extra credit
Speaks quickly, but if you attend his lectures and follow the reading, you won't have any issues. Dr. Eash is a wonderfully intriguing man who is willing to work with you as long as you talk to him. He values knowing about is individual students even in such a large class, and I respect him a great deal because of it. He loves to tell stories.
Canvas quizes for many classes, but only open for a few minutes (helps to be in class) he gives "possible exam questions" as note outlines. If you study the notes, the exams are super easy
Great Professor , really passionate about what he teaches. Gives a lot of extra credit along with a lot of quizzes. Definitely would not skip too many classes.
He is boring overall, but you have to pay attention so you can get possible exam questions down. He makes us do readings but you can kind of get away with it. Lots of extra credit too much effort for an elective.
Attendance is not required, but there are in class quizzes every day that are usually on canvas. He does not post the lecture slides and the test are pretty difficult, but he offers so much extra credit that there's no way you should do poorly.
Overall good, sometimes moves quickly in lecture
Good professor. Make sure to attend class and fill out the sheets he gives you.
Very helpful if you have any questions and has a passion for teaching. Really important to attend class due to quizzes, but overall a good class to take if needing an elective.
Engineering major with 4.0 GPA. Might not have that after this class. His stories are entertaining. I can be hard to pay attention and retain all of the information that he wants you to know. He doesn't post his slides so you have to pay attention and try to capture everything he says. Quiz basically every day.
Go to class and do other homework. He has random 5 Q quizzes. If you pay attention in class, it'll be easier to prepare for the exams. make a groupme and it'll be even easier. Have a way to have the answers to the lecture questions he provides before each class. He offers a lot of extra credit. grading on the essays are easy.
Dr. Eash is very funny and gives lots of extra credit opportunities which is nice. You must go to class because there is a quiz after almost every lecture. His lectures are lengthy and he does tend to go fast at times. Overall easy gen-ed requirement.
I have all the textbooks and never used any of them. This class is an easy A if you go to class, and listen to him lecture. He gives possible exam questions each lecture that go along w what he's saying. LOTS of extra credit, and really wants you to do well in the class.
He gives possible exam questions for each lecture and answers most of them in class. There were two papers that were very simple and graded easily.
Solid class, not too hard but you'll have to pay attention in lecture. If you do that, easy A. Also the material is pretty interesting.
Students need to attend class because he doesn't post any of his slides from class.
As long as you take the quizzes during class and do all the extra credit you will pass. I don't agree with how he structures the exams but he really wants you to do well and offers a ton of extra credit. Almost impossible to fail
Super nice guy. Passionate about people more than anything. Gives tons of extra credit. Tests are difficult and will stress you out but if you come to class and do all the quizes assignments and extra crsdit, then you can get an A for sure. Quizzes almost every class.
Dr. Eash is a super funny, or at least he tries to be and its fun. Overall, the class is very easy if you study the exam questions considering that is all you take notes on, you will easily get an A. You do have to pay attention though, because sometimes he can go quickly, but you can always ask him or a TA after class. Highly recommend.
Dr. Eash is a charismatic and nice professor. He is very passionate about his job and is willing to help students. He gives many opportunities for extra credit. He also gives potential exam questions that he will answer during his lectures. There is some reading required, but ultimately if you show up to lecture you won't have to close read as much
He is a good teacher, but the tests are hard and so are the pop quizzes
Great
Dr. Eash is such a great professor. He truly cares about his students. He gives quizzes at the end of the lectures sometimes, but you are able to drop 3 of the lowest grades. His tests are straightforward and really easy to study for if you pay attention in lecture. Definitely, an easy A if you show up. Extra credit is available too!
I enjoyed this class. The class is lecture heavy but is manageable. There are online quizzes at the end of almost every lecture. He is very understanding and wants to see you succeed. LOTS of extra credit is offered. Not a lot of outside work besides two papers but they are not difficult.
Dr. Neal Eash knows what he is talking about when it comes to soils; the man is very knowledgeable, passionate and eager to teach when it comes to the matter. Because of this, his lectures can sometimes seem like rambling but as long as you show up to class, you will understand the material. Quizzes through Canvas are given but are based on lecture
Dr. Eash is a great guy who does genuinely care about his students and about finding ways to help them succeed in life regardless of their major. This being said, if you do not purchase and read the textbook, tests become exponentially more difficult to do well on. Also, he doesn't post his lecture slides anywhere online after lecture is over.
Yeah He's kind of weird but a fun person to listen to. He's pretty nice to people who show an interest in his work. The class is stupid easy though. Show up to class, there's a lot quizzes
Dr. Eash is a great professor. He really cares about the students and wants you to succeed. He provides many opportunities for extra credit, but attendance is a must if you want to do well.
This class is an easy credit as long as you go and you semi pay attention to the lectures. It's important to go to lectures because he gives lots of pop quizzes. He's a fun professor to listen too because he has traveled lots of places and he has a story or life experience to go along with absolutely everything.
I loved the class!
He is a very caring professor and works with you! Also, offers a lot of extra credit!
Have to attend lecture to get the information, lectures not posted online. Tough exams but lots of extra credit offered.
Very nice man but the lectures usually feel like a waste of time. But never skip lecture because there are always quizzes after class. If you don't take notes you'll be in heaven because he flies through the powerpoint.
I have really enjoyed Soils and Civs with Dr. Eash. He makes each lecture extremely interesting and engaging. It's important that you go to class because there are five question quizzes almost everyday over the lecture material. The exams can be tough, but he offers a ton of extra credit. If you're looking for a good C&C elective, take this class.
This class was pretty easy, just study the lecture questions and then the exams are not very difficult. There are also a ton of extra credit opportunities.
He said there would be quizzes once a week but ended up having them every class. They aren't hard at all if you just pay attention in lecture. I take pictures of the slides to study later because sometimes he goes through them too fast. Really funny and genuine guy all around. I loved listening to him talk!
Some of his stories are funny. I think he was entertaining. Some of the lectures can be a little dry. He is definitely an ethical professor who cares about students.
Gives plenty of extra credit but the tests sometimes stray from the notes given. Gives quizzes after lectures through canvas. Talks about a lot of his experiences but lecture notes can be found on quizlet. Overall a nice guy.
Eash is a pretty entertaining guy with loads of cool story. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunities so it's not that hard to get an A.
Very friendly guy. Lectures have a lot of content, and its very important to show up to class. There are a few papers, but whyre very simple. Lots of extra credit is given. Dr. Eash can see right through attempts to lie or weasel your way through something, but if you have any issues, hes really understanding and will help.
Eash is a pretty fun professor. He always tries to make lectures interesting. He offers a ton of extra credit, but there are quizzes most days over that lecture so it is important to go to class.
Good guy with lectures that tend to go all over the place. If you study the material the tests are not hard and are always all multiple choice.
Overall a good class. Pay attention in lecture, he provides the answers for the test questions more or less.
Great professor who loves what he does. Go to class, pay attention, and it's an easy A and an overall enjoyable class. Bought the books, but I was able to get by without reading at all. Lots of extra credit opportunities as well.
Great professor. I like the way he teaches. Be prepared for the quiz after every lecture. You need to listen in class and take some notes for exams.
there are quizzes at the end of each class, so you need to take notes in order to get those because he doesn't post any of the lectures
Good teacher, always had great knowledge of the lectures
good teacher, good guy
Dr. Eash is great! Hes hilarious and cares about the students learning. Definitely go to class and pay attention to the answers to the questions he gives you each lecture. You only need the questions from those study guide questions for tests. Pretty easy A, and also a pretty interesting class.
Dr. Eash is very understanding and a great professor! He's funny and always willing to help his students as much as he can. Going to class and listening really helps with completing the lecture questions and for the exams.
Dr. Eash is a cool guy. He had us come to his office hours for extra credit and hes cool to talk to and willing to help. He also offers a ton of extra credit and is pretty lenient on grading papers. I would suggest to go to class though because he does do quizzes in class.
Dr. Eash is a very kind man, however his class is not easy. He goes through his slides VERY fast and they are not posted online. The "possible lecture questions" he gives you are never actually on the test. The test questions are on random bits of information that he quickly grazes over, if he even mentions it. He does care a lot about his students
He was a good teacher, lots of stories and more entertaining than most professors.
Dr. Eash provides everything you need to make an A in the course.
Pretty easy class, super funny prof. Dr. Eash is very flexible and caring for his students. I would've gotten an A if I went to every lecture, however I've been to about half and still have a B.
Dr. Eash cares about his students and wants them to do well as long as you put in some effort.
Overall a good professor. Lots of small quizzes (like 5 questions) after lectures so you need to come to class. Nice man, interesting stories and topics, but a lot of information to memorize. Pretty much only focused on civilizations, very little learning about soils - it's basically a history class. Recommend using study guides in the back of book
You technically don't have to go to class, but he gives random pop quizzes so you need to go. His lectures can be a bit unorganized at times, but he tries to make the class enjoyable. He makes you work for an A but its not hard to get a B.
If you show up to lectures you should be fine as long as you understand he goes super fast. His exams aren't super hard but the questions are worded a little weirdly
Dr. Eash's lectures are very anecdotal, and sometimes you don't really understand how what he's saying is supposed to tie in until he's already been talking for several minutes. Aside from that, it's not a difficult class, and he cares about you succeeding.
Would for sure take class with this professor again. Extra credit is offered frequently. Professor is always available outside of class.
give so much extra credit, give possible exam questions for every lecture, gives an easy five question quiz in almost every class. Just make and study a quizlet of the possible exam questions and you will get at least an 80.
Attendance isnt required but most classes he gives short pop quizzes which are pretty easy
Gives a good amount of extra credit and possible exam questions. Attendance is not required but there are quizzes almost every class. Should be fine if you actually put in a little effort into the class. Nice guy.
He's a good teacher and gives you every chance to do very well in this class. If you fail this class or honestly even if you make a C in this class it is your own fault. He gives a ton of extra credit as well has quizzes after basically all lectures that should be easy points if you at all listened. Go to his office hours and get to know him.
The class isn't difficult. Dr. Eash seems to really care about his students and wants them to do well. There are so many extra credit opportunities. Tests are all Multiple choice and not too bad. He gives quizzes during many class, sometimes they are online and sometimes they aren't, so attendance isn't completely mandatory, but recommended.
Professor Eash is a great guy! I met with him twice during his office hours and he truly cares about your future. He knows that you are taking his class for a GPA booster, however you must show up to class because he does pop quizzes online on Canvas. He gives A LOT of extra credit so it helps tremendously.
SO HELPFUL ITS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL THIS CLASS! HE TRIES SO HARD TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE DOES WELL ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE STRUGGLING!
Gives many opportunities for extra credit. I personally do not like the organization of the class. If you pay attention and take notes you will pass.
Gives quizzes at end of class but class is not mandatory, structured for good grades, extra credit. Doesn't post Power points but gives lecture questions so you know what will be on the test.
Lots of study material. Lots of extra credit.
The tests are not hard at all, but very information heavy so a lot of studying is required. Do not take this course if you are like me and do not want to put any effort into it.
It helps for test to actually go and listen to lectures along with the occasional pop quiz. Assignments and quizzes are not very hard. Some topics he talks about in lecture are very interesting even if your major has nothing to do with this class. He can be very lenient if you work with him. He is a funny guy and gives lot of extra credit work.
This class is not a show up and get an A course, but it is also not difficult. If you put in some effort and do the extra credit (he provides a lot of opportunities), there's no excuse to do poorly. He listens to his students requests more than most professors and is very straightforward with his expectations. Very pleased as a gen ed.
I enjoyed the passion Dr. Eash teaches with, in addition to the humor he brings to the course. It's a large, low stress class and the material isn't too tough; it isn't an easy A but with a little effort an A isn't a hard get. I enjoyed learning a new material for a gen ed that wasn't overly difficult.
This is a very easy class but if you want an A, you will have to show up to class and study. He is an amazing professor and truly cares and listens to students. He offers MANY extra credit assignments. There are in class pop quizzes but are fairly easy and you can use your notes. 100% recommend for an easy cultures and civs class!
Great class. A lot of options for extra credit. There are quite a bit of quizzes and assignments but are generally easy and over recently taken notes. Definitely recommend this class to those who need this class for their major or just for an elective.
A lot of material and memorization but extra credit options are given
A great professor and an interesting subject. His office hours are worth it to get to know him better. If you show up to class and pay attention your definitely going to be fine. if you want the A you have to read a little. He makes the subject more interesting and makes it applicable to all majors. I would highly recommend this course.
Great teacher, goes on a lot of tangents, but they are great stories. 10/10 would recommend the class, to get an A go to class and do the quizzes.
He was very good at conveying material, but had to fit a lot of information into a little bit of time. As a result, the class is very fast-paced.
His class is not bad at all. If you show up and take the required notes for each lecture you will be fine. He pulls questions for the exams from the lecture notes taken in class. They're pretty much word for word. There are 2 required texts for this class that he tells you are mandatory, but we never use them. Maybe one assignment here and there.
Dr. Eash is a very personable professor and wants to see all of his students succeed in this course! Tests aren't too difficult and he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit! If you put in the effort you will make a good grade!
This class was pretty easy, but don't waste your money on the textbooks. He gives a ton of extra credit, so if you need it do it. He gives a question bank for exams, but adds in extra stuff too. As long as you study the questions and show up to class you shouldn't make less than an 80 on a test.
Overall a really good teacher. Gives a ton of extra credit throughout the semester. Gives 13 pop quizzes drops 3. Makes the tests as easy as possible. If you do bad in this class it's because you put zero effort in.
Overall a great teacher. He will figure out a way to get you the grade you want if you are willing to put a decent amount of effort. Mostly just memorization and a few assignments here and there.
Somewhat easy class. Lots of extra credit and gives most exam questions in class.
Very knowledgable professor, genuinely wants students to pass.
Eash is really knowledgeable and has lots of good things to say. While he can ramble, the class is not difficult. He provides lots of extra credit and makes an effort for the class to be enjoyable and genuinely wants students to be successful.
Passionate professor that wants you to pass. Gives you all his test questions prior to the lecture to fill in as you go. Two big papers and four exams and a lot of small quizzes.
Gives tons of extra credit. Only 2 papers which were extremely easy (one was 500 words and the other was 750). They weren't even scholarly papers. There was three 50 question multiple choice exams and they were super easy. Get a group me together, take notes on the questions from his slides, make a quizlet, and you will make above an 85 on tests
Eash is a real gem and if your do poorly in the class it is entirely on you. Hes an incredibly understanding professor and seems to genuinely care about his students. Go to class and even half way pay attention and you will do well in the class.
Dr. Eash is a cool guy. If you just pay attention during lectures the class will be a breeze.
Dr. Eash is a great professor and really cares about what he teaches. Just put a little effort into the class and you will be more than fine.
Dr. Eash is passionate professor, his Soils and Civs class was very interesting and thought provoking. For the most part the reading material was engaging, his quizzes can be a bit nitpicky, but overall I loved the class.
He actually made excited to go to lectures. They were informative and fun at the same time.
Such a nice teacher but you definitely need to pay attention during lectures or you will fail the quiz grades that you cannot retake, also you must write alot of papers but they are pretty easy and only a few pages long, pretty boring class but an A is an 85
Dr. Eash is a really nice guy. He comes off as a stickler with grading, but I promise if you just give a little bit of effort you will be fine, especially on the papers. An 86 is an A in the course as well, so if you need a culture/civilization credit take this class.
Great professor who stands above the rest. Dr. Eash cares for his students, and he shows this by helping their grades. He offers enough extra credit where you can get the exact grade you want, and he helps students who want internships. He even budges on grades if you talk to him. His lectures are entertaining, and he has many fantastic stories.
This is the easiest general-ed/major specific course I have ever taken at UTK. The tests are very easy and all quizzes are online. He gives extra credit options that can bring your overall grade up two letters if needed. He is very understanding and patient. Lectures are not required but it is very helpful if you go, plus they are interesting!
The information in ESS334 is difficult, but if you are struggling on learning the material go to his help hours. As long as you show that you are putting in good effort he is very happy to help. I purchased the text book for this class but it was not necessarily needed because people were happy to share certain pages. He gives great internships!
Dr. Eash is very passionate about the topics in his classes. He goes out of his way to help students succeed and he is very east to approach if you have any questions. While some students found his lectures boring, I thoroughly enjoyed the detailed information. He moves quickly through his lectures but provides questions used on future exams.
As long as you go to class and take the notes you are supposed to, you should walk out with an A. Professor Eash is an incredibly friendly and nice person, and is willing to work with you as long as you're willing to work.
Dr. Eash is an awesome professor. Class is not difficult at all as long as you go to class and pay attention. Gives tons of extra credit opportunities. No reason to walk out without at least an A.
I could not recommend ESS 120 and Dr. Eash more. Lectures are amazing and the research he has conducted worldwide is super interesting. I bombed one test but there is so much extra credit that it did not matter. He genuinely cares about you learning something and is one of the funniest professors.
Lectures feel like hour long rants bouncing from topic to topic without much cohesion. That being said, you can tell Eash is very knowledgable about his field and cares a lot about it. Class is quite easy, as long as you attend lectures and write down the exam questions (that he tells you before the exam even) you'll be fine. Lots of extra credit.
I took Dr. Eashes' lower-level classes and had nothing bad to say about it. There was only a little out-of-class work. The tests were not overly complicated, and you can tell by the assignments he gives and how he acts that he is passionate about the work he does and truly wants all of his students to be successful in his class and life.
The professor is quite engaging and wants you to succeed. As long as you show up to class and put in some effort, you'll likely do well. The tests aren't overly challenging, and there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. An interesting class overall.
Professor Eash's ESS120 class is engaging and manageable. The lectures are informative, and he genuinely wants students to succeed. Using unstuckstudy ai and the free textbook can help ace the quizzes and papers. Overall, a solid general education credit.
Make sure you do the extra credit opportunities and this grade should be easy. The exams aren't too difficult and you can (sometimes) get points back for going to meet with Dr. Eash. The lectures are massive and participation is required for quizzes and exam pickup days.
I. Love. Dr. Eash. This man is so caring and loves his students and his work. If I could take him 1000x I would. Although his lecture style is a little confusing, he will help you succeed by any means possible. He offers so much extra credit in creative ways. Please take his class
Neal Eash is a mixed bag. With that being said, he provides so many extra credit opportunities that achieving an A in this class is not too difficult. He clearly cares about what he teaches and he seems like a very nice person, but for a class about soils, this did not need to be as difficult as it was at times. Just an aggressively "ok" professor.
Great dude and really interesting information if you choose to listen, but I honestly wouldn't say you'd have a great time taking this. Lectures are pretty unstructured and tends to talk about personal life experience too much. Weekly reading quizzes that can be upwards of 80 pages (glad I took it online...)
Dr Eash seemed great when I selected this class for a Vol core, but there are so many reading quizzes and writing assignments, and what is crazier is that anything below a 94 is a B. I have tried every extra credit to raise my 89, and it seems impossible. If you have another choice for Vol. Core, take it.
Dr. Eash is a great guy; I really liked him as a professor. However, this class requires so much extra work, which I was not expecting for a Vol Core. If you aren't an Ag major, the lectures can be brutal and boring. Definitely doable but a lot of work. Tip: actually watch and take notes of the lectures, he basically feeds you exam answers
Dr Eash is the kindest professor I've ever had! Despite being an online course, he made sure he was always accessible to his students. He's very passionate about the course and he really wants to see his students succeed. Offers a TON of extra credit. If you don't do well in this course, it's all on you. He gives you every opportunity to succeed!
Took this class online, and it wasn't hard, but it was a lot of work. There are a lot of lectures, and quizzes embedded into them. He assigns reading quizzes every week as well. He is a very nice guy though and obviously loves the content he is teaching. I loved listening to his stories, very interesting person. Do the work and you'll be fine.
Great Class. My favorite i've taken
This guy is amazing
Likes to use his own papers for slideshows, but cites himself as et all. He has an amazing research background and is excited to share it with students.
Very engaging lectures, likes to give personal stories that tie into lectures.
10/10 literally amazing participation helps but is not mandatory, only 2 assignments all year, one quiz a week but only a few quwations, gives so much extra credit, im taking him again
Very fun and entertaining professor, has lots of interesting knowledge and is very educated on what he talks about. Quizzes and tests are not difficult (a lot of it is memorizing.) Genuinely tries to get to know his students; always asks for names and makes conversation.
Amazing professor, very personable and funny, gave a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Great professor, one of the best on campus.
The class was lecture heavy, with countless extra credit opportunities. Lectures are detailed, inspirational, and hilarious. I wouldn't miss a lecture for anything in the world. Textbook recommend but not mandatory. Most enjoyable class I've took at UTK.
He is all about helping his students, and is very interested in getting to know you. If you have a problem, all you have to do is tell him and he will do anything to work through it.
He's Chill. He'll help you if you need it, class is pretty easy and passable with minimal study and paying attention in lectures
Neal Eash is a professor you will want to know and says things as they are. He is full of stories and likes to incorporate his experience into lectures, which keeps them exciting. He is very knowledgeable, connected, and respected. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS and ATTEND LECTURES!!!!
All of the information that you need will be in the lectures and the readings. The readings are long, so ensure that you have time to do the reading. Dr. Eash is straightforward in what he expects. Just try to attend lectures as much as possible because he's liable to forget when quizzes are and need to be taken. Overall, pretty simple course.
Very passionate about what he teaches and he has the experience to back it up. Sometimes a little scatterbrained but if you show up to class and turn in assignments you will get a good grade.
Professor Eash is a great man who really cares about his job and more importantly, his students. When you listen to his lectures about X topic, he really delivers a good message every time. He is also very wise and can probably give you advice or information in just about anything.
Professor Eash is very passionate about the content in the class which makes his class more engaging. He's also willing to listen to students about how the class operates.
Dr. Eash does a very good job! He gives entertaining lectures, has reasonable expectations, and always is happy to lend his students a helping hand during office hours.
His class is heavy on reading, and there are also many reading quizzes. It can be difficult to stay on track with these, but they also help you prepare for the exams. He also offers plenty of extra credit, and he really wants to see his students succeed. Overall, good professor, I'd take him again.
Dr. Eash was a great professor. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and has a lot of experience in the areas he covers. If you show up to his classes and just pay attention you will do well. His lectures are engaging, and he shows his research examples from out of the country that relates to what he is covering.
He is so nice and really cares that you do good in the class. Always gives extra credit and tests are just memorization.
Class was very easy as long as you review the exam questions
Dr. Eash is an incredibly charismatic and sympathetic professor who makes office hours feel personable and constructive. The lectures and the reading detail exactly what you need to know for exams. Great guy, take Soil Sciences.
He is a great professor!
Hilarious guy, super knowledgeable, and has lots of experience. You'll have a great time if you're at least mildly interested in soil science and civilizations. This is a low-effort class, but not a no-effort class, so be ready to do some work and reading if you want to do well. He wants you to succeed, and actually cares.
Professor Eash delivers good lectures and engages with students in a relatable and approachable manner. He makes a genuine effort to learn students' names and wants to help with their growth and success.
As long as you show up to class, pay decent attention, and do the readings you'll do just fine! Great professor, great lecturer, and a great guy!
He sometimes changes the dates on things randomly and if you're not paying attention you'll miss it. The syllabus is slightly off.
This class is the best class I have taken Eash is very knowledgeable and a very entertaining lecturer.
I have taken two classes with Eash now, and have loved both. He is so passionate about what he teaches, its great. He has grumpy grandpa vibes in the absolute best way!!
Syllabus was off most of the time, he got behind on our quizzes so there was a period of time we had one every class on material we had learned weeks ago. Overall very nice and gave a lot of extra credit opportunities.
