Personally, when I had questions in lab, he answered them in a nice manner but I've seen him be not so nice with others. I'm just going to tell you...if possible, take any other professor for lab but him.
oh my god this guy is hard. his quizzes are horrible, but he is nice and will answer your questions. just dont be rude to him and he wont be rude to you.
Mr. McCord is hard, but he is only trying to get his students to learn the information so that the class is not worthless. He will help you if you ask him, and his tests are not bad at all if you study.
McCord's lab is very challenging i kidd you not, but you can absolutelty pass and do very well.I got a B in his lab.You most definitely have to study, but you guys, it comes straight from the lab manuel and pay very close attention to the slides he shows

McCord is a difficult professor! All he wants is you study hard and spell it right. Don't be afraid to ask questions; he really likes it (even if he acts like he doesn't)!! Always act interested and you'll be on his good side:-)
Horrible teacher. Hard as hell. I ended up dropping because of him. He isnt very clear on what he wants from you and then gets mad if you ask questions. Unfortunately he is the only one teaching Bio 123 Lab

I hated going to this class. I always felt so stupid after I got out of his classroom. The way he says stuff is so degrading. He knows his stuff, yes, but doesn't know way we shouldn't know it too. I HATED THIS CLASS and it showed in my grades.
Don't let these people scare you; he is NOT as bad as they make him sound. Anyone who is a bio major should know that studying for labs is usually like studying for any other class; it requires some time. This lab is no exception, but it is not difficult.

Overall nice man, but horrible professor. Impossible quizzes that include miniscule details. You will have to take him, but make sure your lecture grade can make up for it. Helpful TA's though, help me make a D in lab.
McCord was not in class for the the first half, and he came in and totally through everyone off after being taught by a super nice TA, jason. The TAs are really smart and want to help. The class is a pain, but the lecture is not so bad.

My most hated teacher at SFA thus far. Made my Thursdays the worst day of the week. Rude, condescending, and uncooperative. TAs were great but only when McCord wasnt breathing down their neck. Avoid if at all possible.

He's hard, but he'll help you if you just ask. I think he intimidates people thats why they won't ask for his help and think he's hard. The only thing is you have to know EVERYTHING for the quizzes.

He is very insensitive towards you if you are having trouble in lab. He will also smart off and tell you that it's not his fault that you are not understanding. TERRIBLE!!!

Study a crapload, at least two hours a week. The weekly quizzes are tough and you need to go each time to lab and not miss any. One guy didn't even know that he got dropped from the class until the lab final after missing three labs.

Yes, this class is really hard, but you HAVE to study! This is college. He's actually not that mean if you try and joke around with him. Go by his office, ask questions, and don't be absent!! Don't expect an A, but you can pass if you try.
He is a hard professor but attend class as much as possible and study hard. Summer class contains alot of information in short time period. Final exam was not that difficult. He is really a sweet man if you ask for help. Enjoys his job!!

very hard! grade based on weekly quizes, you can only drop one grade, be ready to spend at least 2 hours studying each week for the quizes and go to SI! suck it up and do the studying, hes the only prof you can take for intro right now. lab is only 1/3 of total grade, so try to get a C at least!

Don't expect to get an easy A in this class. The quizzes are really detailed but not immpossible.McCord comes off as unapproachable in class but he is really a great guy if you go talk to him in his office.I don't recommend taking this class if you already have to take a lot of hard classes.
He is a good teacher, but the lab tests will kick you in the butt if you don't study for them. Don't miss class because there is a quiz every class. If you miss it, you will get a zero. He lets you drop your lowest quiz grade.
He is one of the funniest old men I have ever met. He is very intelligent. This class is not as hard as everyone says. I studied 30 min before quizzes a pulled 80's. He teaches you how to study for tests so you can pass not only his class, but all others. I made a high C and didn't try very hard.

Worst teacher ever!! I had never failed a class in my life until I took his. He is the only professor who teaches the Zoology Lab, so you can not escape him. If you are not extremely studious, I reccomend you take this class @ Angelina Jr. College in Lufkin. Hopefully, he wont be teaching much longe
THIS OLD MAN IS HARD. THE LECTURE PART IS EASY BUT LAB IS TERRIBLE. HE IS THE ONLY PROFESSOR THAT TEACHES IT SO YOU CANT GET OUT OF THE CLASS. STUDY FOR THE WEEKLY TEST EACH 10 QUESTIONS AND SOME ARE 20. THE LAST TEST WORTH DOUBLE AND IS A PRACTICAL ABOUT THE BODY OF A FROG. STUDY HARD!

His quizes are pretty hard but not impossible. SI helps out ALOT. He uses a microphone when he talks so If you sit in the back his voice is muffled. I wouldnt necessarily recommend him but hes the only one who teaches the class. Hes hard but if you study hard and pay attention you can pull off a b.

Awful class. The teacher wasn't a bad guy, but I think he should teach something more like graduate classes instead of intro. Teaches it like a higher level taxonomy course. Lab stank, literally and otherwise. Gave me horrid nightmares. Don't take if you can avoid!

This class is NOT difficult. Yes, it is demanding. But we're not in high school anymore. This is college. He treats you like you should want to be treated, like an adult. I know plenty of people who have made an A in this lab. But they study. You'll come across much harder classes than this in the future, I guarantee it.

What is so hard about reading the 5 pages of info he has for the weekly quizzes? Most people don't even do the whole labs. No wonder so many people fail. ok he is kinda difficult. Neal is a nice guy when you go to his office hours. But if you want to be treated like a responsible adult, he is gonna do it. He is very intimidating, somewhat scary, actually. He is funny when talking one-on-one, but wants things his way or the highway. Do not skip lab, it is hard to make it up. go to SI and memorize, memorize, memorize.
This man should retire. I love science, but this man makes it very difficult to love. He expects you to do what he says... make sure to do it. His quizzes can be easy if you study every piece of information... he'll count off points for the smallest things. Make sure to spell the terms correctly. He's basically a nazi in disguise.

He sucks!!! This is the hardest LAB ever. Its not even a real class it is just a LAB. I dont believe any LAB should ever be this hard. He demanded more time than a regular class. He doesnt help you because he is really old and he is always sick or something. I feel bad for people that are sick but he makes you so mad!!!
He might as well just say "it's my job to make as many people fail as possible." It's not his job to break us down but to help us learn. Hello - 100 level class isn't just for bio majors or pre-professional students...
Dr. McCord is awesome...extremely hard, but a cool guy. He is one of the most knowledgeable guys you will have here. The first time I took Zoology I made a D because I didn't study. The next time around, I studied and made an A (yes it is possible). You have to do your part and study a lot, and you will make good grades. Quit complaining about this being hard, this is college after all.
This class is easy, I rarely studied and made an A. Maybe if people spent more time studying instead of ****ing about how hard this class is they would have made a better grade.
OMG!!! I have never dropped a class before this. IT WAS REDIC THIS LAB SHOULD NOT HAVE ACCOUNTED FOR THAT MUCH OF THE GRADE FIRST OFF AND SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THAT SERIOUSLY HARD. I loved the class (lecture) and was making a high B but dropped due to the lab. His voice is unclear. test are terrible. there was maybe 3 people passing with an A/B.

Very hard. One quiz every week accounts for the total semester avg. He is hard to hear and understand but the assistant helps. It will be impossible to pass unless you study hard. You cant just study for 3 hours a week and expect a good grade. Good luck-its hard!
If you are taking 123 you have to take him. Get over it. The material is easy. He grades VERY hard! you have to know everything in the lesson for the quizzes..EVERYTHING! You never know what will be on the quiz. He is nice...just grades hard. Spelling will get you!
If you are a BIO major or a kiss a** then take him. If not, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He makes it his goal to fail his students and is the meanest old F*** i've ever met in my entire life. I failed and will not take again until he retires or there is another bio lab teacher available!
I changed my major in part b/c of this class!!! Tests are not really that difficult if you study, however he takes off for everything!!! If its not one thing, it's something else!!! He does not grade fair!!! Sometimes proffessors should just retire if they don't like teaching!!! There's more to teaching than just liking your subject matter!!!

Unfortunately, he is the only lab instructor for Zoology. His quizzes are extremely and needlessly difficult. He makes you hate zoology and biology. Making flashcards to study with is very helpful.
Mr. McCord's lab is really hard and attendance is absolutely required. His tests are confusing and require ultimate attention and focus.
Don't take him if you have the choice. I took him as a freshman and he made me want to drop out of college because he is so mean, he doesn't care about any student, and he will make fun of you if you give him the chance. He is very intimidating, even those who have been in college for three or four years will tremble from nervousness in his lab.

Out of my whole college career, this was the hardest class I took.
You have to study for his class every week like you have an exam. If you attend all the help sessions and study you will do very well in lab and in lecture. This class will take a lot of extra time out of class.
This class is nearly IMPOSSIBLE. You MUST study daily, often hours a day in order to do decently. His weekly tests are given orally, so if you are a hands on learner, your in trouble! Even when confronted with this issue, he refused to help me, as I am NOT an auditory learner. This course is extremely difficult, BEWARE, do not take!!!!
Do NOT take this course unless you absolutely have to! If you do take it, you will find out that it is virtually impossible to make an A in it, much less pass. His tests/quizzes are insanely hard. You absolutely just have to know ALL the material and correct spelling (of scientific words. Be prepared to study for hours and hours everyday.

Very hard teacher, but I larned a lot. Go to SI and take advantage of the extra hours to go in and review the information. He is really nice when you talk to him one on one and actually show interest in the information. Showing that you are actually trying to make good grades can really help.
He is a nice man if you get to know him. Quizzes are impossible unless you study at least 2-3 hours before one. There are 10 questions on each. Oh, and you will get a 0 if you use pencil. I did actually learn a lot though. Pray you get the T.A. instead of McCord to grade your quiz. Study hard or you will ruin your lecture grade.
Mr McCord doesn't teach he wrote the lab manual so he expects you to read it and understand it yourself...dont ask him questions in class he'll make you feel stupid. Can be funny and is very knowledgeable but he discontinued tutoring for the course due to one student's misunderstanding. I find this unfair to other students.Tests can be surprisingly easy if one studies, but the call and response method and obscure photographs or unclear ones can lead to confusion. Some obscure, poorly reviewed info on big tests.

This class is pretty tough. He has a test every week that he gives orally that is normally only 10 questions and everything must be spelled correctly and written in ink. To do well, you must pretty much memorize the lab manual and follow the rules on the syllabus.

Ridiculously hard lab!! Especially for it being only an introductory lab class. All the quizzes except for the final are oral so if you can't hear or understand him you're out of luck. The TA's didn't know what they were talking about and were very little help during lab. Nice guy to talk to outside of class but it's time he retired. Try to avoid!!
This class is not as hard as people make it seem. The only way to pass this class wiht a descent grade is to memorize the excirces completely, do this and you will do fine. I only failed two quizes, but he drops the lowest one. So bust your butt off if you want to pass because if you don't then you wont do well!!!
i took his zoology lab class,its not that bad i promise, honestly the main people complaining about his teaching are the main ones that dont study...i study 1 and half hours the day of the test and i make A's and B's...he isnt as strict as you think he even gives extra credit...he is a wonderful teacher ...TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WILL LEARN ALOT
He is a really nice professor but he is very strick. You do have to pretty much study the whole manual and hes huge on spelling. The class overall is very interesting. He is sometimes hard to hear even when he has a microphone on and the TA's are not helpful at all. He will be extremely helpful if you just go up to him and ask questions.
This class was terrible. It's a freshman level biology class (lab), and he acts like its a master's degree course. You have to study a ridiculous amount to even have a chance of making above a 70 on the quizzes typically. I would not recommend him to anyone. If you can...AVOID this class!
He was too hard for a freshman level class. Ten questions on each weekly quiz and if you use one wrong letter, he counts it wrong. You have to study WAY too hard to even think of passing a quiz. He treats it as if it's your major, but I had a class of 7 people and still it was hard to understand the lab material.
