For everyone who really wants to know what this class is like, it's hard. This is the only beginning speech class at Moorpark where you can only use ONE 3x5 notecard for each speech. There are plenty of other teachers I would recommend. This guy is kinda smug and kinda sucks. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR SPEECH. Half my class has already dropped.

Don't trust the old comments on this page he has completely changed since he started tenure review. his grading system is completely arbitrary and based solely on his perception of you. He dropped a kid 3 weeks from the end of the course because he fell asleep in class. He has a veneer of niceness that's only skin deep. take at your own risk.

Gets the job done. In intro to speech, the entire class is essentially forced to be there because of GE requirements. Expected more then half to drop because of fear of public speaking, however only few did. Stewart makes it easy and helps you with your speech individually. There is hardly any work, and he is easy going. The ratings below are false

This is basically a pretty standard speech class. Stewart can be a little picky with grades sometimes but as long as you pay attention to his feedback it shouldn't be a problem. He'll insist on you buying the textbook but honestly don't bother; you barely use it and as long as you know how to outline you're 100% fine without it.

The thought of having to speak in front of strangers scared me, but taking this class with him was the best . He always goes into detail about the different speeches you will have to do. As long as you follow his rubric and stay within the time limit you will do great. He also allows note cards during speeches.

I always hated public speaking so I was dreading this class but it really wasn't too bad! The grading was really easy, as long as you actually did some work to prepare your speech. And if that isn't enough he offers some solid extra credit too.

Speech is hard for most of us. Do urself a favor & do ALL of the extra credit, follow the speech format *exactly* as he tells you to, practice, and use a notecard to remind you not o skip ANY of the speech format... and youll be ok. I got an A but it was not easy (anxiety messed me up). If u dont prep you will suck in this class! Also, dont skip!

you don't learn anything about speaking except how to follow his specific rubric. If you follow his rubrics, you'll do fine, but you won't want to. Every kids speech has to use the same formula so they'll be identical. There's no room to be creative. He has a very strict time limit and you don't have a reference or reminder so it is very hard.

Stewart is a great professor. He is knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. If you are struggling he is easily accessible outside of class through office hours. I would highly recommend this class and prof. Youre graded by only two exams and three essays. There is plenty of extra credit available.

Only a bit of homework each week, and only like 5 speeches in total. He's a very, very lenient grader; he doesn't take many points off (if any) for mistakes I had made in my speeches. He teaches really well and is clearly caring to each student, and there is a ton of extra credit.

I'm autistic and I expected this class to be a struggle. We use a terrible structure that doesn't make any sense, we are expected to use "first, second, third, in conclusion." None of the grading criteria is clear. Don't try and sound like a human or even make sense. Just go along with the nonsensical rules and sound like a robot.

Prof. Stewart is honestly really nice. He emphasizes personal growth and gives good feedback on each speech. The work can feel intimidating, but if you break it down, follow the rubric, and turn in your work, you'll be just fine. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. The only additions to honors are an out-of-class speech and a paper.

There were 2 different speeches where you needed to perpare a 5 min speech under 30 mins and were given 4 different topics to chose from, another speech was 5 mins to perpare and were given only 2 topics. As long as you follow the rubric you can pass the class and if you do good underpressure to create a speech in short amount of time.

Mr. Stewart's class has been one of the best college classes I've taken. Stewart is a great professor, and a great guy. I went into PS being nervous, as I'm introverted, but within a few weeks, I felt like an extrovert and was excited for the speeches. He's helped me break many personal barriers this last semester, and for that, I'm very grateful.

I had a great experience with professor Stewart. He offers a lot of extra credit and it's really my fault that I got a B+ instead of an A because I didn't take advantage of all of it. The speeches are genuinely hard, but even if you do bad on every speech, if you complete all extra credit you will at the very least pass with a B-/C+
