This is a very good professor, very friendly, and flexible with schedules. Sometimes, he'll even change exam dates if the class decides that they need more time to review the material. Ghosh is even willing to meet with you any time if you need help. This guy's great! He makes a hard subject easy.
Very nice, helpful, and clear. Better than some of the other OChem profs. Tests are straightforward, and he gives you a "mock test" in adavance that mirrors the real thing so you can practice.
He is really nice and helpful with questions. His tests are simple, and easier than the rest of the ochem profs' tests. But he goes pretty fast in class and doesn't explain things too clearly, so you have to use the book a lot to teach yourself some stuff. But he's helpful with explaining stuff in office hours.
Dr. Ghosh is a great professor! He does indeed make a difficult subject fun and relaxing to learn. I learned more this semester than first semester o-chem when I had another instructor. Dr. Ghosh is a great person and I definitely recommend his course!
Dr. Ghosh's teaching style involves him writing everything out on the boards without ever really speaking. If you put the study time and effort into the class, it's possible to do well cause the tests are very straightforward and look like the old test. But don't expect to get much or any partial credit!
I really enjoyed Professor Ghosh's teaching style. He made everything pretty easy to understand and his tests were not that hard at all. Besides he always had extra credit and was almost always available to ask questions. One of the better professors I've had here.
Best Professor I have had in college. Made a very hard subject interesting and fun. Tests are hard but practice exams help a lot. Go to discussion.
He's a great teacher. He's extremely helpful and he really cares about his students. I was afraid of this subject, but he made it fun and really interesting and now I love it. Study and attend class and discussion, and you'll get a good grade.
This is an amazing professor. He is always willing to help and keeps us interested in a very difficult course. Exams are hard but he provides many examples that helps students succeed. Discussion sections are very useful and be sure to attend them.
This is a great Prof for the Honors course. He really wants students to succeed and makes the time to explain concepts clearly. He is always enthusiatic about mechanisms (study these) and synthesis problems. Go to discussion or office hours and he will personally find time to help you through the material.
AWESOME CLASS!! AWESOME TEACHER!!
He is extremely approachable and helpful during his office hours. His exams are hard, but so are every other ochem teacher's. But you walk out feeling that you have learned alot! Only problem with him is that he goes over stuff really fast and assumes everyone gets it when there are only a couple of people who get it and can answer his questions.
This is one of the few science Honors classes taught extremely well. He is very helpful during discussion and office hours and replies to email at 10 pm before an exam. His exams are hard but this is supposed to be a hard class. I agree that he goes over stuff very fast but does spend a lot of time reviewing all the key concepts.
Ghosh is a great Prof. and keeps trying to explain why OChem is logical, i.e. if you're good at algebra you'll be good at OChem. Pay attention in the first semester (mechanisms) and go to all the discussions or the second semester is going to be wicked hard. This class assumes you remember everything from the first semester, which makes sense.
This is the best class I have had so far and Dr. Ghosh is great. The Final was hard but It made me feel I have learnt an immense amount that will be useful in the future. Go to discussions and do all the practice exams.
Take this class from Ghosh if you want to learn OChem/Science and be excited by it. This is the most logical class I have had in college and everything will be useful. Study hard and you will do well. Msut do the old exams and hw sets. The Finals are always hard.
This class is already fun and challenging. The material is interesting with lots of real examples. Dr. Ghosh is great. Many of my friends could not get a spot so sign up early.
Dr. Ghosh is great but can go through a chapter a day. We caught a break, when he agreed to move an Exam. This class is a lot of work but worth it.
This is one of the best classes at the University. Dr. Ghosh really cares about the students and helped me do well.
This is an awesome class. Dr. Ghosh is the best Prof I have had so far. He loves the subject and can explain everything clearly. He can explain why OChem fits in with all our other science classes.
The class isn't especially exciting, but Dr. Ghosh is so nice and provides many extra resources to help students to practice and understand the material. With Dr. Ghosh, Ochem is in no way the intimidating and scary class it has a reputation for being. Read the book (it's actually pretty good), study the reactions, and you'll be fine.
Dr Ghosh should teach all the Chemistry classes!! It was a hard class and we covered way more material with lots of mechanisms but was worth it.
Dr. Ghosh is very clear and helped with hard concepts. The class requires a lot of work but worth it.
Great class. Dr Ghosh cares for his students and is always available for help. I learnt a lot and helped with my MCATS.
Amazing Professor!! His notes are easy to understand and if they aren't then he is very helpful in trying to understand them. He made O chem a great experience for me.
This is a great class and really great professor. Dr. Ghosh is super helpful and always goes out of his way to explain difficult concepts. The class goes very fast so go to class and take notes and study all the prroblems and old exams.
Dr. Ghosh is a fabulous professor. The material is very hard. He personally helped me do well in OChem. I have not had another Professor willing to spend as much time helping me clearly understand.
This is the class everyone needs to take. Hard to get into but worth it!! You learn a lot and Dr. Ghosh is so very helpful and makes the time to work with you one one one. I hear he is teaching next semester.
I just got into Medical school and I owe a lot to Dr Ghosh. He goes fast but wait until the MCATs.
Easily the best professor I've had at Arizona. He is clear about what he expects from you and what is on his exams. He does cover the material rather fast, but it is manageable if you stay on top of your work. Grades aside, Dr. Ghosh will teach you ochem very well - take this class!
This class is th ebest I have had here so far. We are learning twice as much as the regular class, which is hard but fun.
Fantastic prof. I liked chem after gen chem, but I was super nervous about ochem because I heard that it was death. But Dr. Ghosh is a fantastic professor. He loves what he's teaching and he actually makes us laugh while he's teaching it. Highly recommend.
He is a wonderful teacher, very clear and helpful. Tells you exactly what you need to do and how you need to study with lots of old exams. This was a very difficult class for me- choose him if you are thinking of Med School
It is necessary to STAY ON TOP OF THE MATERIAL. Once fallen behind it's almost impossible to catch up. Also, it's necessary to get on his good side. He is a great teacher.
I learned a lot and it is my favorite class and professor. Make sure you do the problems as it really helps with understanding Ochem.
These are the best classes (Honors Orgo) I have had in college. I wish other professors cared as much.
If you go to class and discussion you will most likely do well in his class. Stay on top of practice problems, read the book, and DON'T fall behind. However, he really wants high averages. If don't seem as smart as the other students he will probably not like you that much/ get frustrated you are in the class. easy grading scale!
This is a hard class but a lot of fun. It has made me change my major. Dr. Ghosh (Gauche as he says) is very helpful.
Not a fan.
Super helpful, good lectures. Had very clear expectations, posts multiple practice tests for each exam.
He is super smart but can get across the material so it is easy to see connections. The class is hard but you will definitely learn much more than the regular class. His tests are hard but he provides lots of old exams. If you do well on them you can do well in the class. The goal is to understand the material and not how to get an A in the class.
Best Class EVER
Ghosh makes Ochem fun and enjoyable, even for a class as hard as it is. He knows what he's talking about, and will always answer questions clearly and so you understand what's going on. His tests, while not easy, are exactly what he teaches, and the online practice material is exactly what you need to practice. So glad to have taken him.
Ghosh is an awesome professor - best I have had at UA. The class can go very fast.
Best class I'v had yet - Ghosh really cares about teaching and posts lots of old exams. The material is hard and taught fast but thsi is teh Honors class.
Ghosh covers material very quickly, but his tests are so pumped full of extra credit that anybody who can't get at least a B needs to get an English degree instead. Very knowledgeable.
Take this class for what it is:HONORS OCHEM. That means OChem (already hard) at an even faster pace. While Ghosh's policies are FAIR (extra credit, grade on final = grade in class if higher than total points) he is not EASY. He moves quickly, is not a clear lecturer, and is relatively unhelpful. An A is NOT guaranteed - you'll have to work hard.
Can't be said enough: this is an extremely challenging class! It's so easy to fall behind, but TRY not to. The book is very helpful--explains a lot of things that, for me at least, weren't made very clear during lecture. If you don't understand something, go see Ghosh or a preceptor! Find someone who's teaching style works for you. Good luck!
Great professor, very knowledgable and teaches in a very fast-paced but very clear method. Keep up with the material and you will do well in the course
Dr. Ghosh is great, and the class is straight forward. Do the practice tests and learn the reactions. Don't try to memorize, but understand the mechanisms. If you do the work this class is super easy. Four tests and a final, one of the tests is dropped. First semester is easy but has a learning curve. 10/10 would recommend.
Ghosh is a nice man and is definitely willing to help, but horrible teacher. His tests are absolutely impossible -- way too hard even for an honors class. And Ghosh does not have very clear lectures at all he runs class like a review session, not a lecture. Overall, if you have the chance to take Ghosh, don't.You'll be better off with regular OChem
Dr. Ghosh is a godsend for ochem. He is incredibly clear on what he expects you to know for the tests through class and practice tests and cuts out the fluff you don't need to learn so he is clearer and easier than non-honors professors. Pay attention in class, do the practice tests and you will have an A. Read ahead if you're having trouble.
The Ghosh. Nuff said.
Loved Ghosh. Ochem is hard but if you can do the practice exams on your own you'll get an A. He is always ready yo help.
Nice guy, extremely willing to help, but not the best teacher especially coming from Pollard's gen chem class. Provides a practice test nearly identical to the actual with a ton of extra credit. You can get by by just memorization but it will be painful. Doesn't really explain the WHY behind everything. Won't prepare you well for MCATPCAT etc.
Loved OChem. Lots of practice tests were helpful. The exams were tough but fair. Study hard if you want an A.
This was my favorite class and professor - we learned a Ton. I am in Med School and so are a bunch of my classmates who had Ghosh. He makes sure in the class that you understand OChem and I definitely aced the OChem section of the MCAT - not kidding. I wish there were more like Ghosh. The exams are very fair.
I'm not very good at memorizing, and there was a lot of memorizing, but hey, that's ochem. If you have to take it, though, Ghosh is your man.
He is the God of Ochem. He makes it so that if your final exam grade is higher than ur calculated grade, you get to keep the final exam grade. He is truly the God of Ochem. He is very clear and responsive. A Facebook page was set up which he answered my question back in under 5 minutes almost every time. TAKE HIM
Dr. Ghosh was one of the best professors I've ever had. Not only did he make ochem (an infamously hard class) interesting, he made it clear and very easy to learn. GO TO DISCUSSION. He would explain the material in lecture and then give unlimited examples in discussion. Test questions matched discussion examples. Easy to get up to 112 on each exam.
Ghosh was, hands down, the best lecturer I had at the UA, and the most fair professor to boot. His lectures were excellent, time spent in class was never wasted and you knew what was expected for the exams. He even offered a rescue final, meaning if you showed up and got an A on his comprehensive final, you got an A for the class. Favorite prof.
Ghosh is a great teacher. Ochem is a hard topic, and he makes it much less scary. You definitely need to study, and there is a lot of memorization involved, but Ghosh will make sure you understand everything. He is one of the most caring teachers I've had, even though he teaches in a giant lecture room with hundreds of students.
Ghosh is just amazing! Take him! Gives you step by step mechanisms and writes clear notes, so when you go to study you actually remember the lecture. If you do the practice tests you pretty much know whats going to be on the test. Go to organic cafe for practice problems. He is so funny because he laughs at his corny jokes that are actually funny
Dr. Ghosh truly wants his students to do well. He teaches a notoriously hard class, but he tries to keep lectures light. He knows ochem is a hard subject so he is very willing to work with you to help you succeed. On the first two tests he adds extra points to cushion your grade a little bit. Take Ghosh!!!
He will promptly answer any email you send to him. He is a wonderful professor that covers everything you need to know for the exams in class.
He is a very Intelligent guy and super fun to talk to. I had him for my honors discussion and we had almost no work in his class. He's a great professor and a great guy. I would highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Had him for honors discussion, so not sure how he teaches chem but he's a great guy. He's super funny and cares about all his students. He definitely wants everyone to succeed. Best instructor I've ever had.
Ghosh is just amazing. If you had Jon, You need to take his partner in crime, Ghosh to enjoy OChem. Pay attention in lecture, study old exams and you will pass.
Dr. Ghosh made organic chemistry much less painful than it might have been. He is a solid choice, especially if you took Jon first semester. His tests are very fair, and he was patient and willing to slow down and answer our questions. Plus he's brilliant, loves the material, and makes lots of funny comments in lecture to keep it interesting.
Dr. Ghosh is by far the best to take Organic Chemistry with! He is hilarious and super clear in lecture and it shows that he genuinely cares about his students. He equips you with everything needed to do extremely well on the exams. He is also extremely accessible outside of class via email and office hours for questions. Would take again with him!
I tried to attend his office hours, however, they were dominated by a few "chem regulars" who attended each week and he paid no attention to me when I tried to ask a question. I believe I could have performed better had he been more accessible in office hours. I would find a professor who offers HW. An entire grade being 4 tests alone is crazy.
Would not recommend! He was arrogant anytime I tried to approach him for help or clarity.
Professor Ghosh is by far the best teacher you will ever have from Organic Chemistry. His lectures are interesting and make chemistry easy to understand. Yes, the grading is based on 4 exams (one of which is dropped) and a final; however, if you show up to lecture and put in the time to study you should have no problem getting an A in the course.
OrgChem part 2 I found to be a lot easier than part 1, because it involved mechanisms (still Part 1 heavy--which is why I did so poorly). But Ghosh was a great lecturer, he explained things in a clever way so that we could remember. His practises were straight forward and fairly reflected test material. He is very approachable and nice.
I made an appointment with Ghosh to go over exam. He gave me only one time and day that he was available (luckily that time worked for me). I got there on time and then within 5 minutes he was trying to wrap up the appointment before I had even had a chance to finish asking questions. I would pick a professor who is more available for students.
I took this course and was able to do well by staying on top of the material, however, I did not find Ghosh to be an effective instructor. His office hours were crowded and he seemed to never have time to address all his student's questions. Often was short with answers
I didnt enjoy this course. If you stay on top of the material, you can do well but I did not find Ghosh to me an effective instructor inside or outside of the classroom. He would act like he didnt have time for me when I tried to attend his office hours or go over exams.
Truthfully, Ghosh is the only negative experience I have had with a professor at the U of A. I have never had a professor rush me out of their office after 10 minutes when I had scheduled an appointment for that time.
Ghosh was one of the best teachers I've ever had at the UofA. He teaches the material at a super appropriate pace and is super kind whenever students ask questions. Other chem teachers I've had make you feel dumb, but he genuinely cares and goes out of his way to provide you with all the resources you need to be successful. TAKE HIM!!
Ghosh is an amazing professor! He is so good at explaining things and going through it well so that we understand what is happening. He's really funny and engages with the students. OChem is really tough (I struggled HARD 1st semester) but he definitely makes it doable. I found 2nd sem easier than first. TAKE HIM if you have the chance!!!
I took this class last spring. I had Dollinger for 241A and found her to be a much more effective instructor and pleasant person. She was willing to go out of her way to help, where as Ghosh was not. I did not do very well on the third test and he was not helpful in going over it wil me. I wanted to make sure I understood the content for the final.
The way he gives grades does not seem entirely fair. For example, I finished the class with an 86 and received a B. However, my friend had an 85 in the class but because he got an 89 on the final, he got an A? This did not make any sense to me and when I brought it up, Ghosh just brushed it off.
Ghosh was one of the greatest chemistry professors i have had in all of my years of schooling. Ochem itself is hard but his lectures are amazing and his exams arent the hardest. he offers lots of help and this class is honestly a doable A even though its hard. definitely recommend taking him for ochem
This class wasnt the easiest, but Professor Ghosh offers a lot of practice and help, so this should be used to your advantage. He is super supportive and wants you to succeed, so dont be afraid to ask questions! I really enjoyed this class and I would definitely take it again!
Dr. Ghosh has been my favorite professor at U of A. He's funny and friendly, making it easy to stay engaged and ask questions. Lectures and content are straightforward. Exams are very fair and never included unexpected material. I highly recommend you take him if you have the chance.
I took the live online version with Dr. Ghosh. He is a hilarious professor and he uploads panapto lectures prior to class to watch so during class, students can look at practice problems instead and ask questions. He gives you 3 practice tests w keys before all tests, tests were super straight forward. Your grade is 3 tests (4, but one drop) +final
