Lots of quizzes, but very easy. Exams are taken from the notes. Professor offers a good study guide for exams and the exams are very fair
Good teacher for the most part. He can be a little boring. If you read the book you should do just fine in his class. Lots of pop quizzes and an all essay mid-term.
He's a great guy. Lots of not so 'pop quizzes'. And if you miss all of the quizzes and midterm like on pathetic sorority chick in my class, he'll even let make up the midterm! He'll work with you and wants you to do well.

Dr Vedwan is always available for questions and help and gives good advice. Flexible and very helpful. He bends over backwards for students in undergrad classes that are having a hard time with the coursework as he wants everyone to do well.
He's horrible...please dont take him...gives like 15 chapters per exam...all essays and its only a 100 course...and he definitely needs a new shirt..
He's a pretty good teacher although his lectures are incredibly boring and sometimes off-topic. There isnt much work, other than the midterm and final (all essays).
He's really not so bad, but I gave him a poor clarity score because he puts me to sleep.
He gives about 100 questions to study for the tests, and very few of them are on the test. Very frustrating and he always put me to sleep.
He's a nice guy, and he actually told us that we don't have to come to class if we don't want to. Lectures are taken right from the textbook - so either go to class, or just read the book. Exam q's are taken exactly from the study guide.
VEDWAN IS A GOOD MAN. HE HAS PEOPLES BEST INTEREST IN MIND. HIS LECTURES GUARANTEED ARE VERY BORING, I MEAN I REALLY SLEPT IN MOST OF HIS CLASSES. JUST READ THE BOOK AND U'LL BE FINE
His class was very easy going. Only 2 exams and a presentation. I recommend him for World Geography.
Brilliant man! I know him pretty well outside class, too. I think he is nervous in front of such huge, apathetic classes; give him a chance! Talk to him outside class if you dont believe me.
He is an extremely intelligent professor. He can be very engaging and loves classroom discussion, but he doesn't force students to participate and many prefer to sit there passively. He should be teaching more advanced courses, his ability is wasted at 100 level.
He is very smart, and is always well prepared. He is an extremely nice man if you just give him a chance. The tests aren't too hard, however they are all essay. You can tell that he does really care for his students. He is a bit boring, okay he is quite boring, but I feel he is worth taking.
Prof Vedwan is a very easy going, sweet man. Tries to make class interesting.
Great teacher. Very knowledgeable. If you attend classes, then you're fine in the tests. Don't even need to read the books.
I loved him. He is a sweet man. His tests reflect the material he teaches and he was organized. He cares about his students and is knows what he is talking about. Talk to him after class and you will learn so much.
Awful, awful, awful. Lectures like an automaton and manages to make fascinating material boring. This is the second worst class I've been subject to at Montclair.
i am so so happy i took this class. he is great! even though some people find him boring, i found that if you participate in class he's really good. always willing to talk after class and definitely doesn't require attendance.. i highly recommend him and wish all my profs were as good as him!
this professor is really easy..no attendance policy..u can make up any quiz or test during office hours...he drops the two lowest quiz grades..he does have an accent which seems indian or other southern asian..definitely recommend!
This professor can be a little boring from time to time, but he takes a real interest in what he teaches. Overall, Vedwan is a good teacher.
I definitly recommend this course. He is a great professor. He is interesting, funny, helpful, and cares about his students. He is very clear with what is expected on his papers and tests.
He is good professor and fair grader
hi, this prof is so good i love him. he is the best prof. ever in the montcalir state univetcity. i love him vey much
The class got better as it progressed. I wasn't too interested in the subject though. At Anthro club he is awesome and very funny, so join if nothing else! (end of shameless plug)

he is in intelligent guy, lots of writing required. not a fair grader at all. take him if u r a good writer. and be ready for the pop up quizzes.
Most irresponsible professor I have ever had in 5 years of college. Grades based on his opinion, therefore unless you put what he thinks, he will take off points. Always late for class by about 5 minutes. Has annoying habit of talking AT you instead of TO you. Although I have to admit that it's an easy A if you don't mind brown-nosing.
What a great guy! The tests are easy. Just make sure you study throroughly for them. He gives no papers. Some pop quizzes, just review your notes the night before class and you'll do fine on pop quizzes. The quizzes are short answer. He gives the notes on the blackboard. Easy A!
yeah hardest thing about this guys class is staying awake...he goes on and on for hours about stuff no one really listens he gives a pop quiz here and there his tests are easy considering he gives them to u the night before on black board very inresponsible and very very easy test grader usually like 4 essay questions...take him if u dont mindlectu
UMMMMM I don't know how you all say he is an easy grader but my friend and I wrote the SAME exact paper and I got on 85 and he got a 70...SAME exact paper. He is irresponsible...late all the time....tell's you to read a chapter and write a paper then all of a sudden that class is cancelled! AND THEN he wants you to write another paper!
This class is about what interests u and how hard ur willing to work for ur grade. He loves to talk & can talk the whole class. Pop quizzes come from notes so study them periodically. Midterm and final were a lot of studying so b prepared. I thought my grade was going to be a B- but he gave me a B+. Boring class but not my worst experince at MSU.
Nice professor.
good professor, easy class. He's actually pretty interesting if you listen to all of the details. He's also pretty funny if you appreciate sarcasm.
Nice professor, very interesting class and fair grader. Reviews for midterm and final very long but if you study well u will get a good grade.
He knew his subject very well and enjoyed teaching it. The class overall was really good. The part of McDonalds in East Asia was pretty lame, though. Easy enough, a few short essays, midterm, and a final. It seems like a lot of work at the beginning but the assignments take maybe 10 minutes. good class.
he can be boring at times.. and you can tell even he knows the material isn't that interesting.. a few short papers and "pop" quizzes which he repeatedly tells you "read the book for tomorrow" unless he says to read the book, there wont be a quiz. he could easily get 3 lessons done in one day but goes slow at times which drags the class on & on.
so horribly boring don't take this class
Don't waste ur time with him. He's boring, not helpful at all, unclear on how to do papers, and unless ur interested in cultural ecology, a complete waste of time.
I've taken 2 courses with him and want to take more! He's very smart, and is always there to help students. Show up for class, take notes, do readings and assignments. The tests are easy after that. RECOMMENDED!
VERY generous grader, a bit rude but a good guy
indian democracy, i didnt even know what the class was until I got into it, and i thought it was gonna be hard because i know nothing about india, but hes a very easy grader and as long as you pay attewntion, you will do fine.
so i had him and adarkar for indian dem. does anyone else feel like they knew more before they came into the class?TAKE ANOTHER SECTION, my friend did,and she got an easy A, no work req. i stressed teaching myself the material and received a decent grade.it's just not worth the pain of those lectures
He spoke kind of low and his lectures were pretty boring, but you could tell that he knows his stuff. The work load wasn't so bad and he's an easy grader. Good for if it's the last section and you HAVE to take it.
Requires an exceptional amount of uninteresting work. Grades your paper based on his opinion and makes anthropology seem deterministic in his lectures. Irresponsible, irritating, and an overall awful experience.
India and Democracy was an interesting class. At the midterm I still had no clue what the class was about. Adarkar and Vedwan try to engage the class in discussion and sometimes unsuccessfully. Vedwan seemed more laid back than Adarkar but that really doesn't matter. Overall it was an interesting class that raised some good points.
He is a pretty decent professor. He can be boring at times, his assignments are simple and a good grader. My only complaint is that he takes to long to grade things and assignments are sometimes posted late.
If you choose to take ANTH 130 to fulfill your gened's this is a good choice. i barely paid attention and got an A. the book is interesting and assignments are easy
He is so boring! first, i thought he was an easy professor but he was actually hard! he makes all the lectures so boring! he is always there to help tho you can go to his office and he is there to help! welll i guess he's not a bad guy! take him!!! just need to work hard.
Environmental Anthropololy was one of my favorite classes. You learn so much and are really engaged in class lecture. Dr. Vedwan is one of the most brilliant professors I've ever encountered. I'd take any class with him. Weekly questions in responses to readings, a midterm paper, and a final paper. I'd take any class with him!
This guy is very, very intelligent, he is able to stay on top of everything you are saying and teaches very well. The assignments are all easy and the exams are do-able. He makes the class very interesting, and knows alot. Great guy, smart, and good class to choose for an easy A
I took professor Neeraj for Cultures of South Asia and he reallyyy knew his stuff, which I always respect in a teacher. You can ask him anything about India and he'll know the answer before you finish asking it. Over-all it was a pretty easy class, despite the fact that I missed it a few times, its easy to catch up. One thumb up! :)
e same tongue as god? I didn't think so.
Overall, this was a good class. It can get a little boring at times, though I learned quite a few interesting things. If you do all the work and study, you will be sure to do well in this class. The only other bad thing is that he doesn't allow students to bring laptops to class.
First off subject is naturally boring...vedwan is a cool guy though and sarcastically funny..classes are all ppt slides.take notes.moves very slow..few 1 page hw responses...and midterm and final questions are given ahead of time.buying the book is a waste of money.overall, class is easy
Most mind opening professor at Montclair. LOVED this class.
This was an online class over the winter break. He sets expectations very clearly and early via the syllabus; no surprises. There are no tests however there is lots of reflective writing based on the text. The questions assigned are thought provoking and, personally, generated lots of discussion outside the class. Outstanding class!
He's very knowledgeable about his subject and has a genuine interest in it.As long as you take his notes and study a bit you'll be fine. On a side note- this class is 97% India. I think other countries were only referenced in the first week or two. He's a nice guy and actually tries to be a little funny in his discussions. Take him.
Was completely uninterested in this class prior to taking it as a Gen Ed. Wasn't bad, I'd recommend the text books and discussion was boring but helpful if you have the patience to listen. There were several small assignments & a midterm & final, and he never took attendance. Overall nice guy and I would recommend him.
Lectures can get very boring, but paying attention / note-taking will help you do well on the midterm and final. There was not much work throughout the course. We only used 1 out of the 2 books required for the class (which was an excellent book!!). He's very easy, kind, and fair with grading. I really learned A LOT about Indian/Pakistani culture!
I'm finishing this class this week; all online, for 3 weeks. The best thing about this class is that you can access it anytime. I actually enjoyed learning about different cultures, but take it if you're willing to take an hour of your day to take notes and daily journals. No tests or quizzes, but you'll have assignments to do. Keep on top of it!
I loved professor Vedwan! I took him fall semester of my freshman year and he's the reason I changed my major to Anthropology. His lectures can sometimes be boring but he's passionate about his work. His assignments aren't that hard and if you pay attention in class, you'll pass.
Dr. Vedwan truly cares about his students. By far one of the best professors at MSU and definitely the most passionate. This is a discussion-based class for the most part, but he picks interesting topics the encompass important concepts in anthropology and environmental studies. Take him! You will learn so much!
Horrible professor. He says you have a quiz when you don't so you freak out for nothing. He really grades his midterm and final. Very hard grader, the two are short answer question test. So if you do badly on those you will not pass. Don't take the class. He never takes attendance. He didn't even know our names. Would never take him again ever
He is an okay professor, but if you don't attend classes than you will have hard time, and he doesn't really take attendance, and doesn't really know the students names either. But the second book we read was very interesting unlike the first.
This class is very tedious, took it over the winter and was too much papers and ready for a three week class! Seem very easy but they reading tremendous.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken at MSU. If you don't have to take this professor, don't.
Took ANTH 100 online over winter break. Some of the work can be tedious but overall a great class. Discussion questions are interesting, material is actually something I wanted to learn. Such a caring guy as well. Easy A if you give thoughtful responses. Stay on top of the work; he only grades 3 assignement, 4 discussions, and 1 collective journal.
Not a good class . He's not clear what to study and questions on tests are misleading . He's a nice guy and knows what he's talking about . Everything just does not translate to students .
3 long assignment based on the readings, 4 graded discussions, and one long journal with questions based on the power points. She gives very good feedback, she provides powerpoints that make the reading easier to understand. Really good at linking what we read what's happening currently in your society. Loved this class!
Professor is very nice, shows he cares and works with students. The only downside to the class is the syllabus is outdated. It doesn't provide an accurate account of essays needed for the class. There was more work than what was listed on the syllabus. This is not an easy A class. Plenty of work needs to be done to ensure the A.
Just plain awful. Whatever you do don't take this class.
Professor V is great. He provides notes on a powerpoint. Assignments are very straightforward; they're based on documentaries shown in class. A midterm and a final. That's it. The class itself is great. He strikes up discussions and cracks jokes. He even gave us a chance for extra credit this semester. I enjoyed his class and would take again.
Prof. Vedwan is VERY passionate about the subject he teaches. He is very knowledgeable and seems to enjoy teaching. Wasn't really a fan of the topic at first but he really piqued my interest. Allover great professor!!!
He is very boring but he's not difficult at all. If you listen to the lectures and take notes the tests aren't super hard. He gives a few quizzes that are simple and usually about documentaries that are watched in class. Also, there are easy homework assignments. If you exert a little bit of effort you'll be fine.
I took this class over winter break and I thought there was a lot work to be done within 3 weeks, but as long as you do the reading and stay on top of your work, it'll be an easy class. The Discussions and Journal Entries are pretty long and tiresome, but they're easy points so long as you meet the requirements. Overall, it was an easy class.
The professor isnt a bad professor he is very educated and he knows what hes talking about. I reccomend attending class its very important so that you dont miss out on anything.
Professor Vedwan made the first semester of college so easy! He actually loves teaching, and makes sure that everyone learns. He knows what he is talking about and doesn't read from powerpoint. Take notes, study, and read the book (is online for free) and you'll pass.
Avoid this class at all costs. Lectures are based on PowerPoints, but he doesn't post them and stands in front of the screen the whole time so you can't see the screen. Gives no other assignments only a midterm and a final and 2 quizzes, so they ultimately hurt your grade. The tests are not based on the "study guide" he gives and questions are hard
He's so bad I could go on and on. Just don't take this class.
I took this class online, and it was OK. He is a tough grader & there is homework every week, & lots of readings. There are three essays and four weekly discussions. This is not an easy A, you will have to work for it and spend hours on the work, however, it is very possible. Take him if you must, however, he is one of the tougher anth profs.
I took this class online. Tedious reading assignments BUT a good amount of what you read applies to multiple homework assignments (EX. your journal questions and your assignments) really as long as you don't procrastinate, read the passages, and give decent responses you'll get an A and you'll actually learn interesting things about history!
Vedwan is fine. He goes on long tangents that aren't always relevant to the topic and goes over our time often. He doesn't grade in a timely manner (as of typing this I have 11 assignments ungraded the last week of the semester). The content was interesting but it was hard to handle the monotony.
This professor made a boring class even worse. It got to the point where I couldn't even pay attention to the lectures because this class was so boring. Midterm and final account for 50% of your grade and are unbelievably hard.
The only reason I got a C- was because I did everything on the last day so I Had a lot of points taken out. I was suppose to get a D since my number grade was a 65 but he gave me the extra 5 points to make it into a 70 which is a c-. He answers his emails SUPER fast too!!!
This class was ASYNC, and there isn't anything necessarily bad about this professor. My only problem is that the professor doesn't tell you when things are due so you really have to be on the look out for things like the journals. You will have journals due at the end of the semester and theyre 150-300 words. In total, you may have around 40.
Not bad but he gives a decent amount of journals. The exams can be a bit difficult but he does curve it a bit. I recommend reading the book to understand better because the slides won't be enough to get a very good grade.
Really fair and cool teacher! He mostly lectures in class but they aren't boring at all. Any videos/documentary he shows are actually really interesting. He cracks jokes here and there and is an overall chill teacher. Journals really aren't too hard, they're based on the reading but he gives a reasonable amount of time to turn it in.
Doesn't actually teach the course past the first two classes of the sem, he makes us read the articles and book chapters (100+ pgs total) and make/present a lecture. Wants students to lead the discussion but takes over. No clear rubrics and poor feedback on the papers he assigns. Reading heavy, no consistent lecture, and tedious weekly homework :(
He's a great teacher, and a bit funny, he just lectures a lot. I think he gives a reasonable amount of work, they're all related to what we talk about in class. He gives study guides for each exam. Overall his class was okay, you just have to put in effort honestly, not everything is going to be handed to you.
I had a horrible time in this class. He never taught us anything. Every week, he assigns heavy reading and then has people present in class based on the readings, and he never teaches! He will interrupt the students mid-presentation. There were research papers for the midterm and final that drove me crazy because I had to teach myself everything.
Overall he's a good professor. Assignments are quite long and he takes a long time to post the grades. Gives a study guide for exams. Decent amount of reading in the class. Exams aren't that hard as long as you put in the work
Long lectures that often bore, its hard to stay awake during lectures. Reading assigned and then journals or questions are posted. Do those and get good grades because they are pretty self explanatory topics. For the tests definitely look over the material on your own.
TRUST ME RUN, I wouldn't recommend him even if you have to graduate next semester. He except us to read a chapter in one or two days depends how big the chapter is and we have to write a journal that contains : 5-12 questions each chapter, each question should be 200 words. that is about 1000-1400 a day or 2 days if u got lucky besides reading.
insane amount of work and requirements. do not take this professor, you will thank me later. there is a reason he has such bad reviews
Get ready to do a bunch of writing. Dude will give you an assignment in which you have to answer several questions in at least 300 words. There's discussion boards where you have to make an answer and response post with 250 words. powerpoints have questions and those have to be answered in 100 words. for a 100 level course, he makes you do too much
I don't understand the low ratings, but I took async. Graded by 4 discussions (500words), 3 assignments (1200 words) and a journal of questions (100 words each) posted regularly all semester due at end of year. Very manageable work and easy grading. Read the textbook and look over PowerPoints, stay on top of assingments. very cool topics.
I dont understand the bad ratings I did have to take this class online but it was easy none the less and its just a bunch of reading and question answering. Overall he was reachable by emails and the work was not hard at all I would suggest to take.
