Excellent teacher, totally into what he does, take class notes and you will do great. Very smart guy!
Really easy and good class... Amazing teacher, you write everything down that he puts on the board and you will ace every test.. highly recommend you taking him
Its Obv he wants to keep you in class about 45mins to an hour per class even though he isnt going to quiz you on everything he talks about. i just wrote down everything he wrote on the board and studied that and got an A. class gets pretty boring but hes worth taking since the tests are common sense to anyone who deserves to be an american.
Professor Buffet truly wants to get you to like history and teaches in such a way that you may actually enjoy it by the end of the semester. If you are prepared for class (read the chapters assigned), show up and pay attention you'll do great! He's a good guy who loves teaching history.
Great Class. Take it. I learned alot about history that I never realized before this class. If you put in effort, you will do well. I'd like more class discussion. I think his name is spelled wrong. Love the lectures, nice on the eyes too Hothothot
I am a person who is not into history at all!! Mr. Buffet made the class intersting. He is a very fair grader and as long as you take notes & read the chapters he tells you, you will do fine on the tests. The only thing that was a pain was the 5 pg paper. But its mandatory 4 all the his102 class. I got an A in this class so if I can do it so can u
Professor Buffett is great!! Has much passion for what he does, makes history and his lectures interesting and entertaining. I hated history before taking his class but he really made it enjoyable
Professor Buffet is by far the best teacher I've had at Suffolk. He is brilliant and clear, and makes history incredibly interesting. Three tests (multiple choice and essay) and one research paper. He is extremely helpful. Pay attention to lectures and take good notes and you will ace the class. I recommend him to anyone.
Great professor, that presents a thoughtful, multi-faceted, and complex view of history that enriches the learner. Catching a rising young professor like this at the community college level is in your best interest.
Extremely energetic! He loves history and teaching it to others, especially those who show interest. He goes on interesting tangents but still covers all the material. Tests are also very straight forward. Just when he is on a roll, don't break his train of thought, he is easily distracted. Great professor none-the-less, highly recommended.
awesome teacher and i would recommend him to anyone that wants an easy grader. very friendly
perfect teacher and and will grade easily. i would recommend to anyone.
Great class! He will write some things on the board and they will be on the test, but he won't write every single thing. If he didn't write, he will definitely say it during the lecture => take good notes.I wrote everything even if it didn't make sense. When reading a chapter, focus on what he talks about. You don't have to scrutinize the book.
Absolutely awesome proff.!! I would love to take another class by this man. Really helped me as I previously struggled in history and I found him incredibly easy to understand and interesting. Love his attitude and passion for the subject, he really teaches the valuable things not the lame stuff
Prof Buffet knows his stuff! He lectures and gives tests based on those lectures with the textbook as a fill in. If you show up and take good notes.. it's a breeze and you actually learn things! As an accounting major, I thought this was going to suck.. I was extremely happy that not only didn't it suck.. it was one of my favorite classes!
Great professor! My problem was that I took his 3 hour night class, my first time doing that & I did poorly but I have no one to blame but myself. It was a little unfair though because we had one test, one paper and the final so it didn't give me an opportunity to boost my grade. Overall I recommend him!
I took Dr. Buffett in the second Summer session for Foundations of American History and I loved his enthusiasm for history. He was one of my best professor's in Suffolk. I strongly recommend him!
Dr. Buffett is so passionate about history that even if it's not your strongest subject, you can't help but have so much respect for the man and his zeal for the subject. Yes, he can get sidetracked easily and lectures at a fast pace, but he knows his stuff, is approachable, and is an all-around good guy. He's also cute, but that's just a bonus.
Greatest history teacher ever! Nuff said
Professor Buffets night class is very easy. He utilizes the three hours which sucks but the turnout is good. There is 1 test, a final, and a 5pg research paper due towards the end of the semester. The test was pretty damn easy, if you fail you're un-American. Just show up and pay attention to what he says. Everything he says is on the test.
He's an entertaining professor, we just covered so much content in a 3 hour class. He's really into history and will go threw the lectures with enthusiasm it's just hard to stay focused so long & retain all of the info he spews out. Good professor just really have to study & read and take notes otherwise he thinks you don't care.
He is a great professor. He makes history fun and his lectures are amazing. Only time I have ever retained info from a history class. He has 2 mini tests, a midterm and a final. Also a paper. It was a great experience. Don't miss his lectures though, if you do, you wont do good on the tests. Also, he assigned a text book but I never used it.
He was a nice guy and gave us 2 test and a 5 page paper. He lectured alot but was clear and if u pay attention and read at least half of the chapters he tells you to then you will do fine.
Really boring class, can lecture for hours. Hard to retain information the way he lectures and teaches text book will break it down for you tho. He made us read a novel and we had to write 2 essays on it that wasn't fun. He is a easy grader tho and he is big on attendance but you can always talk to him. Hope this is helpful.
This class had neither a novel nor two essays on it. Clearly you took a different class, took a different professor or never actually went to the class. Maybe learn the prof's name next time so you can accurately list them for other students.
took his 103 online and he takes too long to grade your discussions and exams. He expects a lot from a community college class.
Do not take this professor online. 40pg chapters each week, expects an essay on the weekly discussion board. Then he expects you to reply to a peers post with another essay length answer. Midterm is one week long with four essays combined in one test. Avoid this for your own sanity and wait to take this class at a campus. Withdrew before I failed.
In an online class we are supposed to read books and answer questions. It is college. That is what people do there.
Good professor. Lectures are interesting. Funny guy. Repeats himself multiple times so that you understand what is being taught.
He was a great online professor, I work full time and take 3 other classes, this class was definitely doable. Yes the midterm is 4 essays but he gives you 2 weeks to do them. Its easy to do one a day. Discussions every week asks for 4 paragraphs and then to reply with 4 paragraphs, seems a lot but it's very easy. Not very time consuming.
Easy, read do what is required and get an A. Seems like its a lot at first but turned out to be pretty easy class
Great professor for my first year in college. Just show up, take notes and you'll pass. He's funny and understanding. A few test and one paper. Easy class.
Im currently in online History 103, its not so much that hes a bad professor. The class is A LOT of work. History classes on campus are much easier. I failed the midterm as it was four essays I couldnt complete in a decent amount of time. He wants lengthy posts every week. Doesnt give feedback
Students have one full week to answer four essay questions on the midterm. One page per answer. Four to five pages. Sunday to Sunday.
He wants 3-4 paragraphs done each week. Also a response to another student,3-4 paragraphs as well. Although I've done less and have gotten full credit. He seems to be a easy grader and you don't have to read the full chapter at all! Just focus on his question and expand on that idea. It'll be pretty easy actually. So, you don't really have to read.
Neil Buffet is a really cool guy. I took his Long Island History class and it was really interesting. his exams are super easy and the material is pretty simple to study and all come directly off of the slides. plus he has you write a 7-10 page paper which is definitely do-able. just make sure you show up to class and study and you will pass!
Does not allow makeups. Wants you to write a discussion response every week of a paragraph and respond to a classmate with a paragraph. Very annoying. If history is your worst subject like mine stay away. I failed the midterm (my own fault) and ended up with a 70 in this class. Oh well.
I hated History in High School !!! His lectures are great! Time after time, I would think it was just me?!?! Then I'd look around the class and see everyone was paying attention !!! Everyone!!!
He is a great professor and really knows his stuff. I had him for His-106 and there were many interesting things that I learned from his class. One small issue I had with him was that he only included and averaged 3 tests and a paper as our final grade. His exams were very easy though so it was easy to do well in his class but hard to get an A.
Took his online HIS103 Course we had discussions every week that were very lengthy, the discussion question had questions within questions it was like inception. Did not provide feedback at all when he graded assignments.
very easy. never takes attendance and probably wont ever even know your first name
. Professor Buffett runs an easy and simple class. He lectures, you take notes, study / show up and pass the exam. Plus he made me genuinely enjoy history. And hes funny as hell. Doesnt take attendance but you kind of need to show up because he doesnt have PowerPoints or anything so you need to take notes or read the book on your own.
Doesnt take attendance, just take notes and show up for tests and you can pass the class
Doesnt take attendance and no review sheet on exams nor the final. Talks overly too fast to take notes. He may have a doctoral degree but doesnt know how to talk to his students in a sympathetic and professional way. No homework, final is not cumulative but he can change it, no handouts, no review sheets.
I recommend not taking this professor! His classes were so boring and hes rude as well. 3 test and 1 paper. If history is not your favorite subject DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He does not assign homework or take attendance. There is only one course paper and 3 tests. He does not give out any handouts or review sheets, so you're not too sure whats on the test and he does give very heavy lectures.
Dr. Buffett was one of my favorite professors. I'm an older, "old school" student who never expects to be coddled and you won't be in this class. Dr. Buffett is passionate, entertaining and anything but boring. Two tests and a five page research paper. Take scholarly notes, do the reading, study your notes for the tests and you'll be just fine.
Best prof Ive ever had. Three tests. A paper. Good lectures. Sure - no homework... I have a job and have no time for it so that worked great for me. Take notes. Not hard. This was my second clas with the guy.
Professor Buffet is the WORST professor to take online. So much reading as well as papers. Discussion questions he expects a paper. ITS A DISCUSSION QUESTION it should be short and simple. Responses are also a page long. Midterm and final are essays which have no clear question. Absolutely pathetic please stay away. He is rude in emails and online.
This is a great course to take! The professor makes the material interesting to learn, and as long as you take good notes on lectures you will do well!
It's funny that students are complaining that an online class requires discussions. It's an online class. - how is he supposed to grade?
Discussions are twice a week, and are lengthy (4 paragraph minimum for full credit) but this class is an EASY A. He gave 1 midterm paper and 2 multiple choice quizzes and a final that was set up like a discussion, answering two questions in essay format. Buy the books he requires, you'll need them eventually. Good class overall.
Talks the entire class time but tries to make a show out of it if he sees kids falling asleep. be ready to take notes on exactly what he says bc he doesn't provide any notes for you. almost my entire class got 100 on the term paper. tests are MC & the essay only adds points to your grade. textbook was a waste of money. no extra credit unfortunately
Great Professor! Really passionate about what he's lecturing on. Are no power point notes. You have to take notes on what he says. One major 5 page research project. He does the research for you, you just have to write the paper. Highly recommend especially if history isn't really your best subject.
This guy makes history so enjoyable. Its an old school class. You go, he lectures, you take notes, you leave. But dont misinterpret this for being a boring class. The guy literally knows everything about history. 3 tests multiple choice. One research paper which he grades very generously. No review sheets but if you study your notes youll be good
History of Long Island was an interesting class, so much I did not know about LI. Online class with many readings and lengthy posts. But this is an online class how else do you interact with fellow students. Great feedback, clear syllabus. Enjoyable class.
I had a 4.0 and this class broke that.. I enjoyed Dr. Buffetts lectures. They very were interesting. However, no test review whatsoever. No matter how many hours I studied for tests, I couldnt do well because his tests have the most minute details on it. I literally studied for three days non-stop for the final and still couldnt get an A.
His tests are impossible. If you care about getting good grades, don't take him. If you just want to pass, and don't care so much about grades then he is ok.
I barely came to class. Came in for the tests. Failed every one and he still passed me at the end. So Im not gonna complain.
Requires 4 paragraph posts for both original post and response in order to get full credit. Not a tough grader. A lot of reading in order to pass the class. Just do the work and its pretty easy to get an A. I would recommend and take again if needed. Im horrible at history and was able to get an A!
I took this class online during the summer. All requirements were clear in the syllabus and easy to follow. Its a lot of writing and the textbook is definitely needed. Test were easy and he specified what he expected of us. No complaints. Would recommend!
he's a good professor he's really nice and funny but all he does is talk so you take notes based on what he says sometimes he'll write on the board other than that there is no homework but he does give exams and every exam has a short response part but if you study you'll pass easily.
Great Prof and nice guy. Loves to get excited over topics. I never opened the book. I took descriptive notes and never studied. Go to every single class, sick or not. One paper. 3 exams. Easy A.
All the tests are based off the lectures that he gives everyday. He basically just lectures for the entire class but he makes them interesting and you actually learning some things about American History that a lot of professors do not teach. He definitely knows what he is talking about and as long as you take notes in class then you will be fine.
So, honestly if you want a good grade DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. So much ridiculous work, hard tests, and is very specific with the way he wants you to write papers. Midterm has 2 full essay questions. He doesnt give powerpoints or study guides for his tests. And he speaks his lectures with no power points. Not worth your stress at all.
Mid-week and end-of-week deadlines which make it tough to keep track of what is due when. A ton of reading and writing. Lack of communication. I e-mailed him about my brother's sudden passing and asked for some flexibility on deadlines, he never responded and gave me zeros for the missed work that week until I ultimately dropped the class.
One of the easiest classes Ive taken. Just show up for each class because Youll be learning from the notes you write about what hes saying. Three tests and one paper. Super easy and a really nice guy and hes funny!
In the beginning of the semester he said we had to do double work reason why is he forgot he posted it. It was terrible, I thought for a sec this will be a fun class but nope. I bought the book but later I dropped the class smh.
Prof. Buffett is great. Very fair grader and easy assignments(as long as you read the textbook). Im actually taking another one of his history courses next semester since I like the way he grades and the assignment setup. I recommend taking any of his history classes.
If you actually want to learn don't take this Professor. Not helpful at all when it comes to asking questions for homework. Gets off track on virtual meetings and expects students to care when he doesn't himself. He has messed up lessons plenty of times and made more wasteful time to redo it. Doesn't put effort into quizzes either. -10/10 professor
This prof. was so easy going. I took history of LI during Covid so everything was online. We gave one discussion every week and you needed to write 4 paragraphs and respond to someone in 4 paragraphs. But it was very easy. He gives a few Multiple choice quizzes. The only thing is he never really responded to emails. I would take his class again
The only thing we had was a 4 paragraph discussion post due on Sundays and a 4 paragraph response to someone else's. There were 2 quizzes, (each with 10 questions), 2 EASY essays for a midterm, and a 40 question final. This class was super easy. If you need an online history class, this prof is perfect. However, he isn't great at emailing.
After taking a second course with this professor, my review still stays the same! Good guy and VERY clear grading criteria.
Prof. Buffett is a little tough, but it went well. During his discussion posts online, he makes us write 4 paragraphs for the initial post AND response to another person. It's tedious but it's honestly kind of fun learning about it. He also isn't afraid to call you out if you're wrong about something. There's also two graded papers. Good luck!
The only thing I didnt like about this class was the discussions. Four paragraph discussion and a four paragraph response to another student, given weekly and worth 25% of your grade. Textbook heavy and some videos that are provided. Other than that the quizzes and final were pretty easy as long as you read the textbook
Professor Buffett is such a caring and charismatic professor. His lectures are amazing, but unfortunately I had him for a blended course, (half in person half online). He assigns very long discussion posts (8 paragraphs total) weekly. If I had him 100% in person, I would take him again without a doubt. You absolutely need the textbook though!
Dr. Buffett is one the most understanding professors at Suffolk. The Hardest part of the class is the four paragraph discussions that you have to write on top of the four paragraph reply, but if you write even three sentences, he'll accept it. I do not recommend taking this course unless you're actually interested in Long Island History.
Professor Buffett really made me love history, this guy is a genius. He never took attendance in my class, He gave 2 tests, 1 paper and the final. The paper is a little difficult so don't wait till the last minute. Overall love that guy
For this class it's a 4 paragraph discussion post and a 4 paragraph reply- sounds hefty I know, but he's lenient. It doesn't need to be a paper, just like a report of stuff from the textbook. He tells you which chapter it's in too so no wasting time. Quizzes are short and easy along with 3 tests, including the final, and I don't even love history.
I took this class entirely online. This professor assigned a discussion every week, and you had to write four paragraphs as a response and four paragraphs as a response to another classmate. The tests were pretty easy as I was online, so I looked it all up. The textbook is required. This class is a lot of work, so smartly make your schedule.
Professor Buffet was truly a pleasure to take this class with. If you come to class ready to listen to the great story he has to tell, you will surely succeed. Taking notes on his lectures was most helpful, and I felt encouraged to ask questions. Very friendly and accommodating. Will definetly make you laugh and sprinkle in fun facts about LI.
He was honestly awesome. it was not hard to understand his work at all. If you needed to email him he will answer. I truly recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Buffet is really kind. His class is very clear and understanding. Offers great support and attentive to each of the students needs.
easy class if you listen and know your history, teacher overall nice and chill, and helps u pay attention by scaring you
Funniest guy I ever met, made me laugh every single class. You don't need the textbook, you go over everything in class. I recommend not skipping the lectures as he doesn't post what he goes over online like other professors. All three tests are multiple choice, no homework. Even if you don't like history he makes the classes engaging.
Prof Buffett is the most knowledgable history teacher I've ever had. We had 4 tests, the last test isn't cumulative. The paper is a bit long but not hard by any means. If you take good notes in the lecture theres no reason you can't get a A+
Easy A but I would never do it again. Spending each day listening to him rant about random things that could have been summed up with a sentence was torture for me. But easy tests, easy grader for the paper and doesn't grade participation. Honestly he wasn't really funny or nice to my class, seemed like he didn't want to be there most of the time.
Very good prof. who is passionate about history. He talks a lot and is very smart but it can be boring if your not interested in the subject. Grading is easy. Tests are straight from the notes which are not given but you have to write down what he says. If you pay attention you will be fine, class not that hard. Overall good prof.
Ok so if you want a great professor and a good grade take him! He is a sweetheart and is very f
Dr. Buffet was an amazing professor and would take him again and again. He is hilarious and an amazing lecturer. He lectures mostly all of the classes, but I never minded he was very engaging. 3 exams and a paper for class. Exams were very fair. He always gave a guide. Had more than enough time for the Paper. Take him if you can!
its super easy to pass his class ONLY if u know history already. he talks way too much and doesnt write down notes. its all endless blabber. if u fr want to learn history, find a new teacher pls, if u want an easy class to pass and u already know history, take it, but if u know absolutely nothing skip this one babes.
This was one of the easiest classes ive taken. There's 3 tests and 1 five page paper. No homework. He posts study guides for each of the test making it an easy A. Doesn't care about the content of your paper only if it fits the required pages. Does tend to ramble in lecture.
Absolutely loved this class and this professor. Professor Buffet is a great teacher. He is very knowledgeable and great at what he teaches. If you pay attention in his class, you will do great. I learned a lot of interesting things from his material.
Gives lectures full of information but it's not available on Brightspace so have your notebook or computer ready for taking notes. Tests are straightforward. He does get distracted sometimes. Review sheets are made up of terms telling you what to study instead of giving information, so taking notes are recommended cause thats what you use to study.
