Neil is an empathetic, interactive professor and I loved the way he ran class, making sure everyone has a chance to participate. There is a fair amount of reading and writing, but you can really apply it to your area of interest. The theoretical areas can be challenging to remember, but he provides slides to make it a lot easier to apply in papers.
He is a very caring and thoughtful professor and genuinely wants his students to do well. Very accessible outside of class via email and is VERY receptive to feedback given about the class. Two guest lecturers to keep things interesting. A few papers and need to do the reading - be ready to use the whole three hours of class!
The Professor is caring and wants his students to do well. He responds to emails quickly and is always able to assist in all matters. Participation is important, so for those who are shy - try your best. The only thing I would change is the students grading each other on one assignment. It is not right for anyone other than a professor to grade.
Avoid if you can. He is a tough grader, does not allow revision on any paper. Lots of reading and papers. If you are a great writer only then risk taking his class. He is a lawyer so be ready to read and write
Prof. Hernandez is very knowledgeable and supportive. You will come out of this class with a very clear understanding of the content. He has a very interesting work background, so use him as a resource. Brought in guest lecturers and encouraged us to network with them. Takes feedback very seriously and changed the class as a result of our feedback.
Professor Hernandez is an extraordinary person and has a fascinating background. He is very accessible through email. There is a lot of writing but you receive thorough feedback for each paper. It is rare to have a professor who truly cares about students. His enthusiasm and guest lecturers kept things interesting throughout the semester. Enjoy!
Professor Hernandez is really exceptional. He is one of the rare folks who actually cares about people & knows how to talk to them. I was pretty sick this semester and although I wasn't always a great communicator, he was super supportive which I've found to be rare. Otherwise, the course is writing heavy, but he provides tons of useful feedback.
Dedicated, enthusiastic and clearly puts a lot of time and effort into planning the course and lectures. Open to feedback (in fact, he distributed a survey halfway through the semester and made some adjustments based on the survey results). Extensive experience as a practitioner, so brings a lot of practical knowledge and experience to class
He really cares about his students and goes above and beyond to make sure that students excel in his class. He provides a lot of feedback that will help you become a better writer and critical thinker. He is a tough grader but will help you along the way to make sure that you understand the material. I encourage everyone to take him!
Professor Hernandez is a great professor. He is very responsive to questions both in and out of class. He sets high expectations for the class, but he makes his grading criteria extremely clear. He provides great feedback both in and out of the classroom. He has also shown he is willing to go above and beyond for his students. He is a must take!
Professor Hernandez is amazing. He dedicated to his student. Fair grader. He is clear about the objectives and task of the class. Reading and case studies are very interesting. You will learn a lot!!!
Professor Hernandez's class was engaging, interesting, and on-point as far as applying theory to practice. I found it very useful in thinking about my own career in public/nonprofit management. The professor himself truly goes above and beyond: he is very caring about each individual student, and takes the time to recommend personalized guidance.
Professor Hernandez is a rare gem for the City University of New York, Baruch and the students that have the opportunity to take his courses. He cares about his students and makes the course interactive and collaborative. While the assignments are not easy, the Professor cares about your development and you will improve your writing capabilities!
Went above and beyond in caring about students' well-being and in making sure you do well in the class. Although I started off with a C+/B-, I still managed to get an A- at the end by taking into account the professor's feedback. To do well, read the syllabus carefully and participate! Creating a class group chat also helped (HEA student).
An exceptional professor. He clearly communicates class expectations and answers emails very quickly. His command of the material coupled with his impressive career experience makes lectures interesting. He encourages student participation through case study discussions. He offered great encouragement to me in my career. Cares about his students!
This was a challenging yet rewarding course! The assignments are not easy, but Professor Hernandez provides very clear grading criteria and helpful feedback for everything. The final case study paper provides an excellent opportunity to apply what you have studied in class to solving actual problems at your workplace. I found this to be invaluable.
This was a great class. A must if you're looking to take on a leadership role in your professional life. He's a fair grader, and provides tough and accurate feedback to make you a better communicator and leader. Do the readings, speak up in class (and say what you really think), and you'll have a great experience.
Professor Hernandez really care about his students and prepares them for the real world
Professor Hernandez is transparent about grading and where you stand in his class. Consistently gave QUICK , helpful feedback. Also very supportive in terms of student advancement; in the course as well as in their career. Really enjoyed the course.
Hernandez is one of the few professors who actually gives both quantitative and succinct qualitative feedback; really does care and pushes students to excel. You will learn a lot not only from lectures, which he prepares for well in advance, but from his professionalism. He will cover all the material outlined. Cannot say enough positive things A+
Professor Hernandez is knowledgeable and caring in helping students to succeed inside and outside of the coursework. His feedback on writing assignment are meticulous to the benefit of the students. He teaching does apply from theory to practice; and his attention to details and helping each student to progress is genuine. I recommend his course.
His expectations are clear and you know what to expect and how to get your A on the first day of class. He is consistent and sticks to his word. If youre looking for a class to be passive in to get a good grade, this isnt the class. While the concepts are not necessarily difficult to comprehend, there is a lot and you do have to put in the work.
I really enjoyed Neils class! As many have mentioned already, he has very clear grading criteria so as long as you do the work, then you should be fine. Concepts are clear and interesting, participation matters and so does attendance. Definitely recommend!
Prof. Hernandez prepares his students for real world work experience as professionals! He encourages reading the class material and interpreting the knowledge in applicable ways through class projects etc., and also gives great feedback. This class is a must if you wish to grow professionally!
Professor Hernandez is an amazing teacher. He's very transparent about his grading rubric and what he expects from you. He's very engaging and makes the course very interesting. Lots of classroom activities to change up the pace. The case study style shows how the theory of management applies to real life. It's hard work, but you learn a lot.
Professor Niel Hernandez is an essential tutor that every graduate student needs. Niel perfectly balances professionalism, learning, and fun - making each class unique. Niel supports his students with transparency on grades. He provides critical and continuous feedback to improve our practice throughout the course.
Professor Neil is straightforward and clear cut about what he expects from his students since the first day of class. His syllabus and grading rubrics are clear and as long as you following the instructions closely, you will do well in the class. Professor Neil is great and will always help his students to thrive and succeed.
Professor Hernandez can be one of the more challenging professors you may ever take at Marxe, but it is all to develop and hone your professional skills. If you want an easy A, do yourself a favor, skip his course. If you want a professor who pushes you to be your best professionally and takes a vested interest in your future, take Prof Hernandez.
Professor Hernandez has been my favorite professor thus far in the Marxe School. His class is very well organized and structured, and provides an engaging course curriculum. He is always willing to help, both in and out of class. This class is not easy by any means, but Professor Hernandez is a fair grader. I would strongly recommend this class.
This is one of the best classes I've ever taken. I got a lot out of the course and know that the material that I learned will stick. Professor Hernandez assigns a lot of reading and homework, and you definitely have to participate in class, but he fosters a fun and collaborative learning environment and motivated me to do the work to get an A.
You will learn!
Great Professor! He really provided positive encouragement at the end of each class session by reminding the class where they are at academically and what they can do to improve. Just follow his direction and put in the work needed and it's an A.
Take this course. You will learn a lot of theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will prepare you for a leadership role. Professor Hernandez has high expectations of students. Complete the readings, do assignments on time, and participate in class. He provides valuable feedback and is very accessible outside of class for questions.
Great professor who likes to challenge his students. Pays great attention to detail and has a very good memory. Gives a lot of assignments and reading but as long as you follow his guidelines you will get an A. Class participation is very important, so be prepared.
His rubric is very detailed so you know exactly what you have to do to succeed. He gives timely feedback and is very detailed. He also takes time to respond to your contributions in class - very thoughtful. He will keep class until the end but he makes good use of that time. He gives you great tools to look at management issues in your organization
The course readings were both interesting and helpful for my work and career plans. I am certain that I will continue to reference them in the future. Neil is a professional, leader, and role model. The Marxe school is very lucky to have him. He sets clear expectations from the first class and demonstrated his knowledge all semester.
Professor Hernandez is an amazing teacher. He truly cares for this students and is passionate about the public sector. You would be silly not to take this class. Be prepared to actively participate, follow his guides and you will do great!
Be prepared for class, you should be ready to cite the source material. Good discussions in class and he is very clear with his expectations. Would recommend.
Professor Neil is on top of all his class instructions and is clear about what he wants from you as a student. If you are falling behind he will notice and give you tips to improve. This is not a class to be silent and surfing by. His class was completely adaptable to the transition from in-person to remote learning.
Neil is a top-notch professor at the Marxe school. In addition to giving detailed feedback and being beyond accessible outside of class - Neil is well respected by students, faculty, and leaders in CUNY alike. He pushes his students to succeed and is an excellent resource for helping students network with people in the field. Take this class!
Prof Hernandez made this class fun as he bolstered the reading with class participation, where we were supposed to share our work experiences. It really helped us to understand the subject matter better. Prof Hernandez was quite thorough with the feedback. He was also quite accessible after class. Do take this class if you get a chance.
Dr Neil is a true gem. He is a highly capable teacher and sincerely cares about student success. He is straight forward, clear and has an exceptional eye for detail. He brings a wealth of wisdom with him due to his past work experiences. He sets a high bar for other prof as THIS IS WHAT A GRADUATE CLASS LOOKS LIKE! Pay heed to his feedbacks.
Professor Hernandez is thorough and really cares about the quality of students' work. Take him if you want to excel and learn from his work ethics too
Professor Hernandez is thorough and concerned about the quality of students' work. Take him if you want to excel and learn from his work ethics too
Professor Hernandez is thorough and concerned about the quality of students' work. He also has a good work ethic that students can really emulate
Professor Hernandez, truly cares about his students and provides the necessary tools and resources to succeed. He is extremely knowledgeable and pushes his students to reach their full potential. I have expanded my expertise and skills not only professionally but personally as well. Great professor, take his class, you won't regret it!
Professor Hernandez will make sure that you receive extensive knowledge from beginning to end of the semester. He is very knowledgeable and apply realistic approach to all our lectures. He ensures positive learning environment. A three hour class feels like an hour. Take his class and you won't regret it!
Prof. Hernandez genuinely cares about his students and makes every effort to make content relevant to the working world. He runs his class with transparency, gives/receives feedback generously & encourages active participation. Expectations are clearly presented from the jump - follow those and you'll do well.
Professor Hernandez is an excellent professor. He is very straight forward. He will give you grading rubric in the first class for class participation, presentation, and papers. If you do your readings for the class and actively participate, you will be just fine. Simply attending or skipping the class is not enough to pass this class.
Its rare to find a professor that not only cares about his students, but shows it in his character and attitude towards this students. However, you still have to work for your grade. He gives a good amount of assignments and youre expected to read and understand the material before every class. A lot of work but worth it.
This class can be challenging if you dont keep up with the readings, commit time and put in the effort. Professor Hernandez gives feedback throughout the semester which is a great opportunity to learn and reflect. I really wish he considers teaching another course there is a lot students at Marxe can learn from him beyond this management course.
The professor is very passionate about his work. He is clear on his expectations, his lectures are precise, concise and detailed. He is extremely resourceful and cares about his students. He is also available outside of classroom hours and is quick with his response time. I was happy I was able to put into practice what was taught in his class.
Professor Hernandez is by far one of the best professors in the Marxe School. He gives insightful feedback and pushes his students to reach their full potential. I've had few professors who genuinely invest in their students' success- he is one of them. I highly recommend his class!
Prof. Hernandez really cares about his students. He always provides constructive and positive feedback to his students. He knows his material very well, but has a superior capacity to teach not that common.
Professor Hernandez teaches with precision and shows that he really cares about his students. There's a decent amount of reading and participation is graded (with a rubric), so it's important to come to class ready to be engaged. You'll learn a lot. He's extremely transparent about grades and expectations. Take his feedback and you'll do well.
Hernandez is very particular about rules and you would do well to follow every single one. This class in particular requires extensive reading and participation. You will get a lot out of this class and will be able to apply what you have learned.
Nice professor but tough, with very high and clear expectations. Provides a lot of reading and grading material that can be a bit overwhelming if you have other responsibilities outside the classroom. The key is time management, in this class you must really come prepared and ready to participate. Keeping an A is not easy, you must do the work.
Professor Hernandez's class was the essential missing link in my MPA curriculum; it was the only course that dealt with actualities in the workplace, and I'm grateful I took it. He is thorough and academically rigorous, but fair and crystal clear about grading. I enjoyed this class and found it very interesting. A great professor who cares!
Prof. Hernandez organized and presented the material very effectively, with a lot of real-world applications for some concepts that may initially seem abstract. You will work for your grade in his class, but he wants everyone to succeed and gives clear feedback and detailed rubrics to help you do so.
Professor Hernandez definitely knows how to conduct this course. All the reading was covered in class the following week. Weekly case studies were quite exciting. His tone via email with some of my classmates came off as disrespectful. He gives very specific feedback. He's also good a facilitating group discussion.
You will do well in this class if you put in the work. Weekly readings and class participation matter a lot. Neil responds to emails quickly and with a lot of feedback. There's one group assignment, two quizzes, two short writing assignments, and one large final paper. I learned a lot in this class - highly recommend 9120 with Neil!
Prof. Hernandez is deeply invested in his students. He makes an effort to go above and beyond with providing feedback and being accessible. He provides updates throughout the semester to let students know where they stand which gives an opportunity to improve. If you want to do well, you will need to work hard, but Prof. Hernandez will support you.
Professor Neil Hernandez is great at creating space for a productive discussion that connects the homework readings to everyday practices. The course itself gives a rich insight into perspectives, techniques, problems, and solutions in the world of management. Be on track with your readings and start working on your case study paper early!
Professor Hernandez is one of the best professors I've had. There is a lot of reading and it is important to come prepared for class discussion. He has high expectations for everyone and works hard to make sure all students thrive in his class. I learned so much and worked super hard every week! It's the toughest class I've had but very rewarding.
Neil is an all-around awesome professor. He's not easy by any means, but you will learn A LOT in his class. He cares a lot about his students and wishes to see everyone succeed, and he is frequently available outside of the classroom. Be sure to participate often and make sure not to use any contractions in your papers.
The requirements to pass this course was extremely clear. It is important to read and understand the theories in the text so that you can participate in class dialogue. Also, the chapters and additional readings can easily be applied to current events. The course is easy as long as you keep up with readings and assignments. No regrets!
Excellent professor. Supportive but will make you work for your grade.
I learned a lot from Professor Neil's classes. He is very responsible and accessible outside class. If you need any help or feedback, he is always here to help. I do recomend his classes.
I was worried about taking this course online, but Professor Hernandez uses various online tools to keep the class engaged. There are a lot of assignments, and each has many guidelines, but if you follow the instructions you will succeed. And if you struggle along the way, Professor Hernandez is very helpful outside of class! Would take again.
Professor Hernandez makes the course very interesting and helps students understand the readings, drawing parallels with real-world examples. He takes a strong personal interest in his students and provides insightful feedback. His course gave me new tools to develop my skills as a manager. I highly recommend Professor Hernandez as an instructor.
Professor Hernandez is exceptional! He challenges all his students to apply what they learn in readings and lectures to their lives from a very analytical and reflective perspective. I enjoyed ALL the readings and I absolutely appreciated being challenged this semester because it helped me grow personally and professionally. I recommend this course
Professor Hernandez is hands-down the best professor I have had. He expects a lot of his students but gives them everything. He is extremely passionate about what he does and has so much practitioner experience. You will have to work for your grade, but you will gain valuable, practicable, and applicable skills that are transferable immediately.
Professor Hernandez is an amazing professor! He is very knowledgeable, he has great experience in the field. His classes are very good; participation and attendance matter. Excellent feedback in-class assignments. I liked very much the readings, case studies, and textbook used in the class. I will definitely take a class with him again!
Professor Hernandez is great. I have to say that his class is not easy and you have to work hard for good grades. But his class is very interesting and inspiring.
Professor Hernandez is a demanding but fair professor. He has high expectations, but he's crystal clear about what he wants for every assignment. You can't get away with skimming the readings or being otherwise unprepared for class. Nor would you want to, since you'll be intellectually stimulated and rewarded for keeping up. Highly recommended.
Professor Hernandez is a gem within the Marxe School for his deep knowledge of public affairs and management theory. There are not many professors that are as genuine and considerate. Completing the readings and active participation are a must, but you will enjoy learning and applying theory to practice and vice versa.
PROF MAKES YOU DO 2 SMALL PAPERS, 1 5 PAGE SINGLE SPACE PAPER, 2 QUIZZES, DISCUSSION BOARDS, TOP HAT QUESTIONS, READING EVERY CLASS. HE DIDNT CARE ABOUT CURVING THE GRADES
This class plays an integral role for any public administration student. Professor Hernandez does an excellent job presenting these theoretical concepts and helping students apply them to their professional lives. Such an approach is strengthened by the variety of assignments. Highly recommend taking with Professor Hernandez!
This class is not an easy A, but that grade is certainly achievable. Do the readings before class, come to class on time, participate and engage in the class discussion. Apply the readings to your case study paper and other assignments. Start the case study paper early in the semester to have enough time to work on it. Don't be afraid to reach out.
Professor Hernandez was incredible! He was a fantastic educator and mentor. He was extremely accessible, and willing to mentor outside of class. I would recommend him as a professor for any student looking to grow as an administrator and leader.
I highly recommend taking 9120 with Professor Hernandez. However, this class is not an easy A. You should be prepared for a lot of reading, class participation, and a group project. His assignments are clear and his feedback is both thoughtful and prompt. You will have the opportunity to apply theory to practice as well.
Prof. Hernandez is among the best educators at Baruch. Students are given every opportunity to succeed, they just need to put in time & effort. His lectures are clear & concise. He provides access to class materials on the first day, and expects you to come prepared. Overall, ask questions, participate in discussion and be open to feedback.
Professor Hernandez is a great lecturer who cares about the students' success. Come prepared, do the readings, apply theory during the class discussion and do your assignments ahead of time. Start your consulting project early and follow the guidelines. The class is invaluable to anyone in the private or public sector.
An incredible course that I highly recommend. As a higher-level course, the reading load was heavy and expectations were high. Plan to take this course when you have the time to really commit. Professor Hernandez gives detailed feedback. I found the assignments challenging, but very practical and useful in my career.
Professor Hernandez is an expert in the subject matter, and the level of material he presents in class is of high quality grad level that I am very appreciative that I have taken this class and learned how a grad student should think.
I learned so much in this class and was challenged every week. Completely worth it as I move ahead with the rest of my course work and think about my capstone. Professor Hernandez is really approachable, gives solid feedback, and wants his students to succeed. Highly recommend taking this class!
Professor Hernandez wants nothing but the best for his students. While the class is structured by lecture, there is a lot of open discussion between your classmates and the Professor. This allows for a better understanding of the material and how it is applicable to real life work scenarios. I throughly enjoyed this class. Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed Prof Hernandez's class. He was engaging, knowledgeable and available to students for questions about class or career. The course required weekly readings, 2 group presentations and a final paper. Class participation was also graded. Professor Hernandez provided feedback and clear instructions for success every step of the way.
Professor Hernandez is an asset to the Baruch community. His course is by no means an easy one, but it will probe you to strategically analyze management. Professor Hernandez is truly invested in the academic and professional success of his students, as demonstrated by his robust feedback and availability outside of class. Highly recommended!
Prof. Hernandez is a great professor and the class is very interesting, especially as someone who never was interested in management beforehand. A good balance of theory and practice. Make sure to participate, either on the discussion board or in class. He's incredibly accessible if needed and gives great detailed feedback.
It is almost 1 semester later from having professor Hernandez. I learned so much from him and have become a stronger and wiser student. He is a bit strict with his work and marks down each time you participate.
One of the better courses I've taken at Baruch. Highlights: (1) Engaging class discussions and activities (2) Project-based learning assignments (assignments rooted in real-world contexts) (3) Strong classroom culture (everyone participated, group work) (4) Mentorship (Connected interested students with resources and/or career opportunities)
Neil has high expectations, but if you put in the work, you will get a lot out of this class! Of all of the projects at Baruch, this experiential learning project was my favorite. Be sure to read (and take notes), participate frequently, and review his feedback on every assignment (he gives detailed and actionable feedback).
It was an intense class. I felt the pressure, but it was worth it. You will use what you learn in this class in every project, job, and personal or career life situation. Neil isn't going to give you an A if you don't put in your best effort. But if you do your part, it will be one of the classes that will change many things in your career.
Prof. Hernandez genuinely notices each and every student. He cares! He holds high expectations for his students and gives specific feedback to improve writing skills and critical thinking. He is also very transparent in his grading through rubrics and assignment grades. You will learn through rich discussions and analyses of case studies.
Professor Neil Hernandez is a great teacher and this class is a must-take for any MPA student! The management skills you learn in his class will make you a more competent manager. This class has a heavy workload but really pays off because you will learn a lot. Group work is required for client consultation. Be ready to deal with your group.
This is the best class you would take in the program. You will actually learn theory and put it in practice. Expect to work a lot but it's worth it. Highly recommended.
This is one of the best classes I've taken in all of graduate school. Although it's a lot of work, Professor Neil Hernandez is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's always available to answer questions and provide support, and this class truly helps you apply theory to real world situations. Highly recommend!
A truly incredible professor and the single best class I've taken. Neil is demanding and the project-based coursework with in-depth theory is rigorous, but each student would attest its a mindset-changing experience that will profoundly benefit us. If you are serious about becoming a leader in the civic sector, Neil is a must-take professor.
PAF 9120 with Professor Hernandez is an excellent course. It is well designed with a variety of group and individual projects. I greatly appreciated the thoughtfulness around the selection of course materials. Additionally, the Professor provides clear grading criteria and is easily accessible for questions outside of class hours. Highly recommend.
Professor Hernandez was one of the best professors I've had at Baruch. He was very available outside of class and gave thoughtful feedback. You do need to actually do the readings in order to earn full participation points. He has high expectations and expects quality work from his students, but provides you with all tools you need to do well.
Hands down the best professor I've had at Marxe out of 10 classes so far. Genuinely cares about students and their learning. Fast and incredibly thorough feedback. Well-organized course overall. A lot of reading is required but worth it if you plan to manage an organization someday. Advice: Don't wait, get started right away on the team project.
Professor Hernandez's class is challenging but in the best way possible. This class provides unique and valuable experiential learning opportunities. It will take a lot of your time and effort. But Professor Hernandez is very accessible outside class, and he will support you if you are willing to improve your work. I recommend this course to anyone
This is by far the best class I have taken at Baruch! Neil has high standards and encourages students to critically think abt management and the importance of public interest. His grading rubric is well-defined and lectures are thought provoking. He is resourceful and emotionally intelligent. Grateful for this course and it's impact on my career.
This is one of the best classes any student could take. Very challenging but fruitful because all the coursework prepares you for the future phase, whether building a good leadership skill or improving at one in graduate school. The assignments are straightforward, do not overthink them but follow the instruction to detail.
Hernandez cares about his students! He sent me countless job postings, pod casts and articles to help encourage my future career. I know for a fact he shares these resources with every student in my class. He is a clear and supportive professor that will help you rise to the occasion as long as you are willing to put the work in.
Professor Hernandez is an amazing professor. He is very caring and motivating. I highly recommend taking his class. You must do the reading and be ready to participate. His class is very informative.
Prof. H provides a fantastic & thought-provoking class that dives into leadership & management concepts. Keep up w/ the readings, participate in class and you'll do well. There are 3 assignments (2 are group projects) that are challenging yet interesting & appropriate for a masters-level class. I'd definitely take another class w/ Prof. H again!
Professor is well organized and has a fully developed and structured course. All materials and major points are given as of the first day of classes. Although, an introductory course, it is taught as a higher level section. Professor is responsive and provided detailed feedback. Class will include high levels of group work and participation is a +
It was a pleasure to take this course with Professor Hernandez, and a great way to begin the MPA degree at Baruch. Professor H takes a special interest in each student's goals and career path and will provide helpful guidance as much as he can. Make sure to read the assignments, participate in class, and work well in groups and you'll be fine.
He wants you to know and to learn. He is demanding in doing the reading, but he gives everyone a chance to express their opinion. Assigns group presentations and a final paper is more a case study. Start writing the case study early. He demands quality, but at the end, if you do all well, A is guaranteed.
I learned so much from this class and I am warming up to the idea of consulting. If you do the readings, and apply theory to your work you will do fine. I recommend this class to everyone. It was all worth it. Prof H is amazing and inspirational
I envy everyone else here because their experience was the opposite of mine. Condescending, every session was a power trip. Childish intimidation tactics and any praise is framed in passive aggression. Uncompromising on the smallest matters and spiteful when asked for help. Nitpicks and puts you down over it. Overall, robotic and snobby.
Wish I could also select the tags "Caring", "Respected", "Inspirational", and "Gives Good Feedback". I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Professor Hernandez's class. So much so that I ended up taking his second course PAF9160. If you care about excelling in your professional life through learning soft skills, do yourself a favor and take this class.
I signed up for this course after taking PAF9120. 10/10. Did not disappoint, and I would 100% take again.
Professor Hernandez is great at what he does. His classes are definitely challenging as they are theory heavy but his assignments will truly help you grow as a student. He also shows care in the career success of all his students and tries to connect you with other people in your field of interest. Would definitely recommend!
This Professor encourages students to excel and gives helpful and insightful feedback on all aspects of your grade, from participation to presentations. While challenging, the professor does not set you up to fail. Rather, he helps set you up for success. The Professor is also well organized and direct in his teaching style. Highly recommend!
I took 9120 and then 9160 with Neil. 9160 was by far the most challenging class I have taken at Marxe, but you will get so much out of it. Especially if you want to dip your toe in consulting work. Neil is also the most attentive and supportive professor I have encountered in the program. He wants you to succeed and provides thorough feedback.
Professor H is demanding but fair. The class is challenging, but he provides helpful feedback to set you up for success. Attendance is mandatory, but the material is engaging. unstuck ai complemented my studies well alongside the required readings.
Worst prof in Marxe
Professor Hernandez's class prepares students for real world experience in the nonprofit or public management through presentations, class discussions, and a final organizational assessment. He challenges students in preparation for future leadership and management roles. One of the best classes offered at Marxe.
This prof has too much going on on Brightspace it's hard to find any docs you need. His projects and assignments are extremely difficult, yet it's all about common sense. Absolutely nothing he teaches in his class has been new info. It's a total waste of time because we essentially talk about the things we already know. AVOID!!
He's always on a power trip and his class is all based on theories that you have to agree with
PAF 9160 is a challenging course centered on a semester-long group consulting project, which makes up most of the grade. The first half has a heavy reading load. Feedback is detailed and direct, but helpful for improving the final report. Recommended for students interested in consulting-style work.
Prof Hernandez leaves rude comments on your work and publicly shames students who disagree with him, avoid at all costs
Professor Hernandez is deeply committed to his students' success. His feedback is thorough and direct, and he provides excellent guidance. For the final project, he even made himself available on weekends. This was the most rigorous and meaningful course I've taken. He truly challenges students to reach their full potential. I highly recommend it!
I would take this Professor again. Fair grader, readings helped in class participation. Group projects were part of the final report, and honestly it was a lot of work. What I learned in class honestly I am applying in real world.
Professor Hernandez has high expectations and holds you to them. He believes in his students and supports them for success. Do not take this course if you're expecting a light class. Grades are fair and expectations are clear via rubrics. Highly recommend if you want to challenge yourself and grow as a leader.
Professor Hernandez is an absolute gem! He genuinely cares about his students and their interests. This course is an excellent stepping stone, especially before a capstone or for consulting exposure. He's responsive, supportive, and rewards real effort with fair grading and valuable real-world insight. I highly recommend this course.
Professor Hernandez truly cares about his students learning and growing professionally and academically. He's very supportive and has high expectations but only because he wants students to succeed. His class has been the most meaningful course of my graduate career so if you're looking to challenge yourself, I would definitely recommend.
AVOID PROFESSOR HERNANDEZ! He's the worst Professor at this school and I think all the positive reviews are written by him because there's no way everyone loves him
Incredible instructor. He is detail oriented and dedicated to his students work both in class and in their careers. Fair and thoughtful feedback on assignments.
Professor Hernandez leads with care and respect for students, while providing a challenging learning experience to sharpen our professional skills. This is not an "Easy A" sort of course but the work you put into the class is what you'll get out of it. Final note- Be on time.
I question the positive reviews for this professor. This was by far the worst class I took at Baruch. Hernandez was condescending and not approachable. I highly recommend taking another section of PAF 9120 to meet the requirement.
