If anyone should see this guy for any class. Run!!!!!He had a total of about 23 students. And going to the finals with only about 10. And two thinking of not coming.
Bad,bad,bad,bad!!!!!!!!
The worst professor ever teaching math. Out of 27 students only 3 passed the final exam.
Is this guy still teaching. The college is stealing students money by allowing this guy to teach.
dont ever take him as a professor he is terrible keeps rushing and never explains i hate him dont make my mistake drop the class before u fail
IF YOU SEE THIS GUY JUST RUN FOR YOUR MONEY, IT IS NOT WORTH TAKING HIS CLASS AND FAILING THE CLASS
What a *@#$! He rushs through topics, he talks to his student's as if they are dumb. He come's in late to class & expects you to stay longer, He doesn't finish the material for the semester. If you get him, on the first day, run to the registrar & either drop the class or switch, 'cause he's a jerk. I give him a F- :(
He is the stupid Professor I have seen in my life. If you ever register with this Professor, Dont wait for the last day to drop, Drop right away...because he is a <<<<<????? Professor.
Beware of this ****! His exams are as freaky as he is.
If u wanna learn english and math at the same time this is the class for you. He spends a great deal of time writing on the board rather than going over the math problems. He's hard to understand but he's willing to help u out, bottom line nice person, not good cal professor.
Neal Katz is a very dull lecturer, can't explain anything clearly, freaks out and stares at you in a weird way when you ask questions ... Might not be the worst, but he is horrible. Also a tough grader. Thinks he is experienced, above the level of the school. If you registered in his class, don't wait for the last day to do what you have to do.
This teacher is a SAVING GRACE for Tech. Sometimes, teachers do too much hand holding and don't sufficiently challenge students - and so they go out into the REAL world unprepared. Dr. Katz achieves a great balance. Do you have to work REALLY hard? YES... but he's extremely fair, very clear and thorough, and will do everything in his power to help.
This professor is one of the best together with Prof. Reitz. I so glad that he is teaching here at City Tech. You need to work really hard in his class, but it is not impossible to get A. He really understands what he is teaching unlike some others. If you email him with a question, he will reply sooner that what you expect, in some case instant.
he is a waste of time. do not take this guy if you want to leaned and also pass. HARD TO UNDERSTAND. sometimes i think the class was math/english. he writes everything he say.
Probably the most intelligent and least understandable professor I've had. He seemed to take delight in that only a handful of students passed his first exam. He goes super-fast in answering complex questions; then, if you don't understand, he looks at you--like you're a simpleton. Dr. Katz has destroyed this 4.0 GPA student's interest in math.
This dude teaches like everyone in the class already know every problem. he never explains anything and when you ask a question he get's angry and defensive. he know math but should not teach it. goood luck in his class. you gonna need it
This dude is ceazy. More than 2/3 of the class failed. He expects you to know everything without teaching them 1st. Dropped his class after the 1st test which only 1 person in the class passed with a 68. NEVER TAKE HIM!!!!
Well i personally love this professor. smartest i have had. inspires me to be better and really learn. Explains very well. quiz for every topic he finishes, it helps u keep studying. 3 exams which are very challenging but if u do pass u feel awesomely smart. professor believes in Improvement if u pass the final he wil look @ wat u achieved, i Got A
If u like d ez A's hes not 4 u. THis Prof is a real challenge. But he believes in improvement if u do bad n d tests but improve towards d end meaning u can do things u couldnt b4 he will judge u on ur improvement. Gr8 prof. I got 32 , and 68 in 2 of the 3 exams i got B- cause he saw improvement n mistakes were always minor but d concept was there
He is really good teacher. He will give us 3 exams and one final.NO HOMEWORK required. He would give us many quiz + assignment and took the highest 10. Quiz has only one question. Very easy. Many 10-15 ppl drops his class after midterm which they just dont pay effort on the class. I got 89 and 90 on his exams. final I got above 90. I got A
i had him for 1475,he gave 3 exams and 1 final. He is very helpful and only counts the best 2 of the 3 exams for the grade, yet and the final. i think that he is a pretty smart math teacher and hopes to see the best of his students. recommend to take him for 1475
he is a great professor, and yet smart. you will learn a lot of math stuff from him and remember that don't be afraid of asking him questions. he is quite helpful and pleased to explain and answer your questions. i got a A in his calculus.
very smart but solves problem to entertain self. goes too fast and doens't explain too well
He isnt an easy A and he is very confusing when he teaches. If you try to learn the work from watching him teach in the classroom, you will never get it, best to work on your own from the textbook, and make use of his office hours.
I had him for Math of Finance and I must say, he's the WORST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD!!! PERIOD!!!
He can't teach!!!
Not for lazy students. Have to put in work to get A. Had him for 3 courses and always happy. U'll learn a lot, great prof, admirably smart and organized. Writes all he says, very easy to refer back n study. Believes in progress so u can get a good grade ever after not doing good in exams if you get it in the final.Highly recomended for good student
Great Professor very helpful and understandable. Not a free A.
heard alota bad things about this guy from underachieving students so decided to take his Math of Finance Class even though it was not in my major just to see if he was as bad as they say. It's quite the opposite. He is very helpful, clear, writes alot, and his exams are all fair. I expect an A!!
WORST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD!!!
I'll be frank, his class is no walk in the park but if you do his hw you have a goo chance of passing. But he's very helpful and gives alot of extra credit
He is the best professor ever for calculus! He is extremely helpful but students just fear to approach him. He is very kind, just because he's geeky, students think he is unapproachable. He explains every step, he gives notes which are so helpful when you do revision. Do your homework to grasp the concepts clearly.
He gives quizzes every week, very helpful for grasping concepts. pay attention and post questions on blackboard, he'll answer at all times even after 9pm! He's the kind of guy who teaches you how to apply math in everyday life, you'll learn a lot in his class. Trust me, yo sure to pass the finals! he'll be back after a year though! I miss him!!!!
I took his class today and in his introduction he even stated he was inexperienced while telling students when the deadline to drop the course is
Although he is rigorous, he is very fair and will take the time to ensure students understand the material if they ask questions. I felt that he gave me a solid foundation in calculus helping me immensely in higher math and engineering courses. You will work hard in his class, but it will benefit you in the long run. Highly recommended.
Prof. Katz will go over the honmework if students have question and will take as much time needed for that. He does not collect homework and gives a 1 question quiz at the beginning of each class based on the previous class. If you pay attention and give some effort you will do really well in his class.
Prof. Katz is a kind of person who will do derivative of x^2+5x in class but put find derivative of arctan(x/2) on exam, not only that if you want to take his class make sure you know derivatives and integrals of arcsin, arctan, arccos, he likes playing with students mind, and keeps his standards as harvard, columbia and nyu poly... class was fun.
Pro.Katz who is a very kind person, if you pay attention in his class. I think to pass the class is not a hard thing. and he explain the queations in a very clear and understandable way.
He is the most helpful prof I ever met. He is there 24/7 to help with any problems. Even on blackboard. I withdrew from the class but it's because of the material, I'm just bad at math. Maybe it could also be I didn't understand how he explained things but I have nothing against him. He is great for any adept math student.
I passed the course but I am not happy with the grade. He is a great professor but he makes his tests harder than the department final.
He is very nice, doesn't grade hw and test are okay. The only problem is that he don't know when to stop going over hw questions, he just keep answering them and basically took the whole period going over hw question and spending the last 10 minute teaching new topics.
Never take him for differential equations class. He's confusing and hard to keep up with. He is just in his own world solving the equation. He does ask "do you have any questions?" But no one even finished writing down what he has written on the board yet. Couldn't catch up at all.
Horrible teacher. He be writing all over the place trying to find an answer. He always wants us to guess answers. He doesn't make it easy for the students with the way he writes things down. He gives quizzes every week. The tests are hard. He's a good guy but his teaching is bad
Smart dude, nice professor. Kind of hard grader but helped me out and I was soooo happy I past. Best math prof. I've had, more patient than the others
- Awesome professor. - Sit in the front of the class if you want to do well. - Go up to the board when you have the chance. - If you notice you're falling behind, go to him immediately or get a tutor. - Make sure you're good at trig and algebra before you take his CALC I class. You're supposed to be good at them.
I cant stand him as a professor, he explains things so difficultly. Forces you to ask questions when you really don't have any. He also doesn't check homework. If I had the chance to pick my class and professor all over again it sure as hell wouldn't be him. He is very sloppy and disorganized.
Only take him if you are really good at calculus and math because the way he teaches is like as if you read the chapter before hand and you know how to solve the problems. If you are someone who doesn't study much & doesn't read the chapter before the lecture then you will probably do very bad in the class so take him only if you are good at math.
The prof is nice but he is challenging. Half the class ended up failing the course. He is a very nice man however. I don't suggest you take him for this course as he only does theory and doesn't show any real examples. The half who didn't fail got C. It was surprising because in the other lower level maths he always gave out A.
This professor really cares whether you learn or not. He offers so much help and always answers your questions and explains things as many times till you understand. This professor makes math enjoyable and made cal 2 look easy. Yes he gives quizzes but , who doesn'. You need to read the chapters before coming to class to have a better undertsanding
If you take him for Calc 2 or lower math, expect an easy time. However for differential equations he refuses to do examples in class. Since its a higher math he expects you to do examples on your own and teach yourself. He also takes off a lot of points for simple mistakes. He only teaches you the theory and wont do examples even if you ask.
You're in for a treat! You will be writing notes from start to end of the class. The exams are extremely difficult and 85% of his class will not pass. If you want to retake the same class next semester, this is the class for you. For all you math lovers out there, if you ever wanted a change of heart, this class will do it for you. Horrible Teacher
I'm good at math and I failed his class. His exams are extremely hard. I defiantly don't recommend this prof. He writes notes all over the board unnecessary, he gives too much information where it confuses students.
Very nice professor, always available if you need help, and willing to help. Answers all questions clearly. Makes everything simple and easy to understand. Exams are tough, you have to do the homework.
His tests are harder than the department final exam just to start and every week he gives out quizzes, also he writes a lot on the board and skips a lot of steps while explaining making it hard to understand the question. except 3 entire class failed the first exam or got below 64/100. He is a tough grader and it's 4 credit which can change ur GPA.
Differential Equation is a hard class, so don't expect a easy time. His tests are hard and his lectures are mostly focus on Theorem. (quizs are easy) However, Prof. Katz is a very helpful professor. You really need to put efforts into the HW, HW best prepare for the tests. I got AVG 85 on test as result A- for final grade.
My friend took calc 2 with another professor, and his notes tell me how good his professor is. This guy skips steps and give unnecessary hard questions on the quiz and exam. He does not give extra credit and will not curve your grade. If you see him as your professor, swap immediately.
His teaching method doesn't work. Very complex for no reason-- compared to other calc 2 professors in my college . I won't recommend.
Although hes a very nice guy and gladly answers any question, his teaching method doesnt work. he doesnt many examples but focuses mostly on theorem and makes things sound more complicated than they actually are. dont be shy and ask him your hw questions at the beginning of eachclass. mat1575 aint easy so get ready to study a lot!
Katz is a dedicated professor, doesn't proceed to the next topic until all questions are answered, is accessible outside classroom, and gives a lot partial credits even if your answer is totally wrong. If you just Understand Home Works, you'll get an easy A
I wish i never take his class . His exam is more difficult than final exam . I tried to learn and spend a lot of time on homework and quizz . Still fail his class ...
He runs through the material and you pretty much have to teach yourself. he teaches as if you should already know the material. don't take the class he doesn't properly prepare you for tests or midterms at all.
Its not a good professor, he takes an hour and a half to explain one problem. Also, he does not explain well, usually differential equations is Known to be hard, but this guy makes it impossible.
Be fair students ! Before taking this class, I was frightened by those comments, it turns out that his tests are easier than the department's. Everything in the tests is totally based on home works. quizzes are easy and given to support your grade. He gives partial credits. It was really nice being in his class. RECOMMENDED
He made the class so much harder than it should have been. He is is a very smart but not that great at presenting his material. His grading is a bit off but he's a nice guy. He can help outside of class. Tough grader though!
Gave nearly 15 quizes this semester.
He will give you a lots homework. He expect you to every homework. He takes 15-20 quizzes. His exams are very tough.
This professor gives tons of quizzes, and the project is very difficult. Exams are not really difficult but this class, you don't get extra credits. I got B, but it's due to the lack of practice. Touch Grader. If you like math, take this class. If you are just a regular average student, better not to take this class with this professor!
This is going to be the first class I ever failed in my time here in City Tech. Tests are ridiculously hard and he gives a lot of quizzes. He doesn't give any review sheets before exams just a check list which is pretty much useless. He doesn't explain anything at all. This class is impossible unless you have a lot of time to study tutorials online
writes a whole lot of junk on the board. Talks to himself not the class. difficult quiz every week. boring lectures. your grade is based on 4 exams. all exams are dramatically hard. The final is easier than his exams, doesnt give any extra credit. He doesnt care. if hes your only remaining option RUN. you've been warned
If you study for the test, you are not gonna pass, you put full focus on the test, you are not gonna pass, his test and quizzes are out of this world he has no idea what hes doing in class. THE WORST professor in city tech. He walks around during every quiz and test even if you studied and you see him walking around, you will forget everything.
If you take this professor, it's almost guaranteed you will fail so I suggest to choose another professor. More than half the time you don't even know what he's doing because he doesn't explain anything. No reviews, no extra credit, and no exam grades dropped. He chooses the hardest problems on the homework to put on the exams. Good luck passing.
His tests are extremely hard. Would not recommend taking him.
Don't listen to the bad reviews. Prof. Katz is a wonderful teacher that gives students the reality of being a college student. Calc2 isn't supposed to be easy and it isn't for everyone, but if you study and go to his office hours he WILL HELP YOU. I went almost every day. Study everyday for this class. You'll be glad you did. Calc2 is the best Calc
If you are taking Calculus, you must take his class. He is one of the best Calculus Professor I have ever got at Citytech. I loved his class. He wants to give students an A you just have to do your part. He really helps if anyone is stuck at any steps on the test/exam. He is the best.
He is the most respected professor that I took in NYC-tech. I took Calc3 and Differential equations with him in the same semester. I had some rough times since exams and hw were due the same day, but he would always help me out. I remember he stayed with me for extra hours to explain my questions. He is a very kind professor and be honest with him.
I can't believe Prof.Katz is rated this low after taking his course. He is what a college professor should be like. He teaches and explains to you any problems you have. You just need to work on the HW he assigns and it's easy A on his exams and quiz. I can guarantee the people that gave low review does not study the work he assigned.
He is very nice and understanding if you ask a question, he's genuinely a very nice guy. All positives I can say. Negatives are he will constantly give out quizzes and even if you fail it there's no way to make up for it other than tests/exams. Each exam got harder where even the smartest guy in our class got a 68 while everyone had the 40s or 30s
Very textbook heavy class, lectures are mostly just homework review. Be prepared to read the textbook and teach yourself.
Very knowledgeable
Neil Katz is the one of the best professors at City Tech. Lectures are insightful and offer a different view on the subject, as opposed to just doing practice problems the entire time. I was able to understand the why behind many of the topics which I found to be very useful. Calc 3 isn't supposed to be easy, do the hw and ask questions.
Professor Katz is an excellent instructor. The material covered in the differential equations course is notably challenging compared to other math courses; however, he consistently provided valuable feedback and was available to assist with homework questions. His support was helpful in maintaining my motivation in succeeding in the course.
I loved Dr Katz's class. He is an amazing teacher who made every topic understandable. He makes complicated things simple and easy to understand. I would recommend any body who loves Math to take any of his classes.
The professor gives tons of homework—some assignments take 5–6 hours. There are many quizzes that don't match the lectures. I kept up, did well on the quizzes, and finished all the work, but the exams were much harder than expected. The class felt overwhelming, stressful, and not worth the effort.
professor katz was a godsend for calc 3. he always explained everything so in depth, so for those students who like to know the "why" behind concepts, he's your guy. also he was so caring, especially in office hours. he spent many a session patiently explaining things to my slow self. take this professor if you really want to understand calculus!
This professor is tough. He makes it clear that the higher level math classes are difficult and that just comes from the material. He does an incredible job in supporting and encouraging you to improve. He grades fairly, his HW doesnt count but is great practice to pass his quizzes.Thats to say, all you have to do is stay consistent and youll pass.
The professor gives way too much homework about 15 questions for each lecture. It takes a lot of time, yet the exams aren't even related to the homework and are very hard. The highest score on Exam 1 was an 82. I dropped the class and took it in summer with another professor and got an A. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
Hi, I am currently taking his class this semester, and as an average math student who genuinely tries, I can say he is an excellent professor who teaches clearly, supports his students, grades with fairness, rewards real effort, stays accessible outside class, and truly wants everyone to learn and succeed.
