Mr Lewis is an awesome history professor. I can't wait to sign up next semester. Really thought provoking assignments.
Teaches in a manner that keeps you interested. Expects a lot from you but in the end you are better for it. He makes think critically, which is what college is all about.
Expects a lot from his students. Lots of reading assignments; a response paper is required weekly. Two movie analysis were required, which were actually quite interesting to do... don't be late for class or everyone will get a pop quizz. I liked his class....and would take him again. He is really nice, very young, and kinda cute ;o)
This guy acts like his class is your only class. He makes you write papers every week, and his quizes are hard, due to the fact that the topic was never discussed. I got an A in his class, but it was not easy. Take History with Minda Webber if you can. She has no test or quizes. You grade is based on participation, not test.
I took this class thinking it would be a lot of reading, which I don't mind, but he makes you write and write and write some more...I wouldn't mind writing if I was taking an english class, but I wish we would learn more about other cultures and religions more than we did in this class, I'll rate him a B -
I took this class thinking I was going to learn about other cultures and traditions, but just wrote papers, and read like I was in an english class. It was okay, but could tell there were special treatment there in some people. It's was an okay class just won't take another class with him. Very slow to give back papers.
This teacher is not good he is boring!! Requires to much reading and has to many projects outside of class lots of groupwork if your taking a full load don't take him requires to much
Great teacher.smart, knows what he's talking about.loves the spurs.class discussions help understand the material to write papers assigned.there is no "extra"work given.easy grader.if you take the class seriously you will learn so much about the world and even yourself.the class is extremely fun!easy class, took 18 hours and still got an A!!
He is formost a History teacher and got thrown into a Humanities slot by the school when no one else would do it....so now you know how the class would go. Too much work for such little payoff. I'd find another prof.
Mr. Lewis was a pretty good teacher. The class was pretty easy. Lots of group interaction. However his essay's were about simple topics, but he grades pretty harsh. Felt more like an English class than Humanities.
He is seriously the worst teacher i have ever had, he isnt fair and he is rude
just go to class. use your brain, it doesn't hurt. have an opinion.
Great teacher, really enjoyable class. I was in the class about two years ago. Really interesting readings, discussions, and essays. I loved the class. He graded our essays through turnitin.com with very helpful comments and SMILEYS! C'mon, how many of your professors put smiley faces on your papers? Made an effort to connect to students.
Cool teacher. He really gets you to think about what is going on. He is readily available and will help you if you need to. He doesn't grade too hard and even if you get a bad grade. He offers a**** load of extra credit. His assignments can be a little weird sometimes, but he means well. Overall good class to introduce you to the classics.
cool teacher, very helpful. he grades very easy. very helpful if you have trouble with your assignments. his finals are very easy. accepts late work. no book is required.some of his assignments seem to be weird. i would recommend to take him though
Awesome
He makes you do a 6 hour community service project. If you don't have time for that don't take him!! No text book use, just printing your own papers out. So far 3 weeks into the class ive bought 2 ink cartridges....
Was a very great professor. He made class fun and related it to our everyday lives. Grades are based on Papers and projects. His projects were cool hands on experiences. He's very helpful. Tests are essay test but they are not bad. I got an A
I would definitely recommend Mr. Lewis for Humanities. Normally humanities is not interesting to me but Mr. Lewis explains everything in the text. Have an opinion and ask questions. He is very helpful. One of the best professors I've had a Northwest Vista.
Heavy load of reading and discussion. Would recommend to anyone who is a History major. Writing papers was moderate load. I would take another course with him.
the mot badass teacher in the history of everrr
This is an easy A! as long as you turn in assignments on time and you do them correctly you will definitely pass! He is an awesome guy and is great for people who are first time college students!
Great class. If you hate to read, have in class discussions, and thinking in general, then don't take this class. It's an easy A if you read the pieces he gives you and can participate in class. Great in class discussions. 98% lecture. A few papers to write, and a couple tests, but overall, an easy A. Great guy, defiantly recommend.
If you need to take an online HUMA class you should take it with MR.Lewis. His work load is fair and he grades very lenient. I would take any class he teaches and know that I am taking a class that I am going to learn something and be treated fairly. He gives feedback on pretty much every assignment which really helps.
350 words wasn't enough to say what I have to about MR. Lewis. Like a posted before he is a professor that you have to experience he's class at least one time. He goes out of his way to help you and is very understanding of any situations you may run into trough out the year. He want you to do good and he really helped me beyond what he had to.
I did not like him at all he gave a D just because I couldn't went to serve food to the homeless people. Not fair because all my assignments had good grades. Horrible in grading.
This class was super easy, the class can get a little boring because the way he teaches in small groups can get a little redundant, but all in all, good teacher. Hes funny and young, so he tries to keep the class interesting. TAKE HIM! He's great!
I took this class Online - it was the best decision I've ever made in my life. - got an A
This class is very easy. Class is based on lecture and working with your group. There are a few easy exams and service projects. He is very funny and keeps the class flow going.
This guy definitely cares about his community. He's very down to earth and has charisma. watch out for his grading because on the essays he definitely wants to hear from "your perspective." Other than that, he's a great prof.
As with any course, if you put time and effort into the class it becomes easy. I can not remember if we had used a book? If we did, then simply keep up with your readings. Being as this was online, keep up with discussion board. To be honest, this class prepared me for my literature courses at A&M-San Antonio!
Had to take 2 Huma to graduate this semester. Do NOT recommend doing this. Great teacher but due to taking 2 of his classes at once, there were a lot of writing assignments. He's a cool dude & keeps your interested in the topics. Go Mavs!
I took this class on site of NVC and I was very happy with the course. It was interesting and Mr. Lewis made it very engaging and involved! Very fun class! Would take him again if I could. Few hands on projects but all pretty easy and again, involved! He's laid back but motivated to make you learn more about the course and yourself.
This was a pretty good class, we only had three essays and three tests through out the whole semester. He is a very nice and fun teacher to have, he is helpful and tries to have fun in class. Some of the lectures can drag on. You read an article everyday in class and discuss in a group. If you try to read and pay attention you will get an A.
Don't miss a single class. Creative writers BEWARE. EXTREME Liberal This guy is very confusing on grading. If you want to make an A, you better not miss a single class, you must follow the boring, textbook style of writing that says "this paper is about blabla," and you must have liberal views in order to be seen as intelligent in any way.
Took Mr. Lewis in the Spring of 2015. A lot of reading assignments, and a few essays. He values participation in class, is a fair and fairly tough grader. Great instructor and adds lots of humor.
Took Mr Lewis for the fall 2015, as others have said need to be liberal to be seen as intelligent, even some one in the middle is looked down on. When grading papers does not grade objectivly but wants to form your way of thinking, it's his way or the highway. Would not take him again. He will say we want to see other points of view meaning his own
Mr. Lewis is very funny and super chill. There are very few assignments that he actually grades! About 6. This can make or break your grade. He WILL know if you took the time to do the assignment or if you stayed up the night before rushing it. It is important to know and understand the readings he assigns! They're essential to passing!
Mr. Lewis gives out about 5 essays! You will have to provide textual evidence for each essay.... Textual evidence comes from the readings which can be difficult to understand and add into what your saying in your essay. Be prepared to participate! It matters A LOT. Gives about 2 extra credits... Read articles before attending class.
Mr. Lewis is not a bad guy. He is however, very sarcastic so be aware if you are offended easily. Do not take it to heart, he is genuinely a good guy! He expects you to read the readings and use them for evidence, but be warned they are not all that easy to understand. You do talk about them in class so it honestly is not that hard.
very rarely replies when emailed to
Class was easy enough and barely any homework. The few papers we had to write had to incorporate what we talked about in class and even if you follow his "rubric" he's a tough grader. At first I thought he was pretty open minded about what he teaches but he really wants you to agree and say what he thinks only which was a bit disappointing
He doesn't give any tests, and all grades are written essays. This class is not hard, but make sure to read the assigned readings or you will feel the disappointment. If you have questions, ask, professor Lewis really knows his information and seems passionate about it.
He's not reasonable when grading, one of the hardest grading professors that I've ever had. Very little assignments which means you have to make a high grade in every assignment sometimes his expectations are impossible to achieve. The only good thing about taking him is there's rarely homework.
Not a lot of homework and you are only graded on a handful of things so the grade you get on those papers/essays really matters. Hard grader. Must read class material and participate in class to fully understand and complete essays. Nice professor and he does give an extra credit opportunity that helps a little.
I really enjoyed his class. Most of the work is reading online and in class discussions with your group. You just have 4 papers and no tests. He's really not that hard of a grader if you do your work. Super cool teacher, engaging and interesting talks. Open to all opinions, nothing is personal. Totally should take him for humanities!!
This is a pretty laid-back class. There are no tests until the final, but there are essays you will have to write. He is not an easy grader but he's clear about what he expects from the essays. Also, no text book is a plus.
I took a 5 week summer course of his. He's clearly very liberal, but if your opinion disagrees with his, he gives you a lower grade. He did it to me because I answered "yes or no" question with an answer he didn't like. If he asks for opinions in class and your opinion doesn't agree with his, he cuts you off and disregards it. Do not take his class
There is no homework other than readings. If you don't read then you won't pass. You have 3 exams and 4 essays. If you don't do good on those you will not pass the class. He doesn't respond when you reach out to him often. He doesn't give notes. Just talks a lot and repeats himself so you don't get out early. Isn't very involved with the class.
Lewis was an awesome lecturer. He was very eye-opening about topics that made you rethink so many things about life! Lol. He only has 4 assignments that are essays, and is such a tough grader for them. If you fail one, you're sure to put in work in the others. No textbook though, so that's a plus! If you're an english major, you'll do well.
He was a great teacher, until it came to grading your papers. He is a tough grader, he will give you feedback, but be careful BE SURE YOU HAVE A THESIS when you do your papers! There is no homework, BUT he will make you read all the readings in canvas. He does not put notes on the board or do any slideshows, so you are on your own! :)))))
Awesome professor, but is an extremely tough grader. No homework or tests besides the final. Very little assignments, but are all essays. He's an extremely tough grader. First class I've gotten a D on, EVER. Will never take him again. You're on his bad list if you don't agree with what he believes in. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE.
Mr. Lewis is super laid-back and chill. He is an all around nice guy looking to better the world. His class was super manageable. Show up and do the readings and you are sure to get an A. He does assign a nature hike with an essay and a community service project with an essay. Definitely left-wing. If you have a problem with that, tread lightly.
Mr. Lewis is a decent/average professor who mainly gives lectures. He's a tad hard on grading papers. The final is 2 hand-written essays that should be 2 pages long depending on the size of your handwriting. If you're a smart student who can write and don't want homework this is the class for you. I think he makes it a point to not give an easy A.
Professor is very one directional and closed minded. If you do not agree with his own opinion, your grade will be affected throughout your course work. The professor will find exceptions to your opinions so participation is discouraged in my opinion. Look for another professor.
I've got to say this course was incredibly mind opening. I've learned a lot more than I thought I would and for most of it I was able to apply it into my personal life and it allowed me to grow a new perspective. Tough grader towards essays, but he will definitely help you out if you are unsure-- so do not hesitate to reach out! He's hilarious too.
This is the 1st class I've failed EVER!! He is SUPER tough on grading papers and if you don't understand the readings, the essays will be difficult. He REQUIRES you to be on time and show up to class, so if you miss a lot of class you will FAIL. Mr. Lewis is very close-minded and likes to argue with students who don't have the same views as him.
Very great professor. He lets you turn in late work. We have readings but are simple and helps out with them. Lectures, but are interactive and interesting. Essays are your only grade so don't mess around with those. Overall I am actually going to take him again!
This is a class for adults. You're expected to show up on time with electronics off and pay attention. He's very helpful and accommodating if you don't wait until last minute to approach him on assignments. Also, he explains and goes over the meaning of every reading assignment in class. If you show up and pay attention you'll get an A or B.
Very laid back teacher who is willing to work with you if you are. Mr. Lewis offers extra credit and is super lenient with late work. Very passionate and caring human being. Would definitely take his course again!
I enjoyed being in his class. He does grade very hard when it comes to essays. Our class averages around 76, while the highest grades are very low A's. While showing his passion for his job, he also makes the class fun with his jokes and humor.
I took him for two separate classes. I would take him again if I could. Great professor. Go above and beyond his grading criteria and you will get an A. Read the assignments and be prepared to discuss. In other words, You are in college; not high school.
It's true if you don't agree with his opinions, he will typically make it his goal to argue with you. While I agreed with his views and thought my essays were pretty OK; he thought otherwise.
If you like writing essays, go for it! Mr. Lewis makes class super interesting and enjoyable for everyone, (even if you are asleep)! Classes are heavy in lecture and class discussions, but don't worry because we hardly get homework! Before you enter class you will have to do a reading on your own at home, but it's a piece of cake.
Neil is an amazing Proffessor. He is very caring and a very smart guy. Ive used the lessons from his class to work on my relationships. Although his class does have a good amount of papers, just get on his good side and actually put in some effort. Hes one of my favorite professors! This class will prepare you for the future.
Very good professor. I took his humanities class and I learned a lot. Get ready to think (in the best way) if you take his classes. He is a caring teacher that wants you to learn. The book was used and we had a couple of essays but we always had at least a week to do the essays. The only homework we ever had was to read. Definitely recommend.
This guy could be such an awesome teacher if he just wasn't so pretentious. For someone teaching a class which requires an open mind, he's incredibly insular. He is cool guy though if that makes any sense.
The only material that you can use is what he provides; not very open-minded and I am surprised that Humanities is the course that he teaches. Instead of teaching the material he actually tries to push his own ideologies off on you. If you do not agree with what he teaches/says, don't make it known or question him, because he will get back at you
Narrow minded. Does not leave room for discussion (sharing opinions); he lectures most of the class about his own viewpoints. No books are needed . I would choose another instructor if you really want to learn something of substance from humanities.
He is the best professor I have met by far! He cares about his students, if I could take his class again I would. As long as you listen and do the work you will do just fine
Instructor is very informed, open minded, and respectful. Only downfall; Hard grader! Grading NOT consistent with assignment requirements. Reduces grade on papers for information not initially requested to provide. Ask questions about ESSAYS do not write papers solely based on assignment outline. Very critical about participation, don't be late!
Took him for an online summer class and it was super easy! He gives very clear instructions & I think he is an easy grader as I passed with an A. Not sure why so many people complain, as long as you put in the effort, youll be fine! Id recommend his class. 10/10
Hated this class more than any other. Hates phones... one of those. Hates when anyone but himself talks very petty and just would not recommending this teacher. I had a A all the way till the end and then ended up with a C... hes a joke..
Just act like your opinion is the same as his and you'll be fine. Lots of homework. Hope you like essays and discussions as well.
He is a really good professor. Participation matters and he will work with you on anything. He is very lenient and takes late work. 4 response papers through out the semester and each lecture is also a discussion. overall, great professor and really laid back on the work load.
Professor Lewis was pretty alright, not amazing but also not awful. I took this class to get an easy A, but boy was I not prepared for the number of essays I had to write. Lectures were always fun and engaging. If you don't like writing essays, do not take him. Besides that, he was fine, overall okay.
LIFE CHANGING CLASS!!! +funny professor He's the only teacher I'll write this for out of my other 4 classes. We had a book that had to be read to discuss in class. Chapters were LONG but enjoyable & enlightening to read. All posted material helped me understand what was being taught. U do have to work for ur grade but he def cares abt his students!
Lack of empathy for particular group of students. Projects ideologies onto students and will argue with them. Gloats about having privileges. Hard grader on essays. Practically suck up to the teacher or will purposely low ball your grades.
I have taken him for both Huma 1301 and 1302. He is lecture heavy but he is super entertaining so as long as you pay attention and do the readings you'll get an easy A. He is by far my favorite professor at NVC and I learned a lot. He also is super respectful and so funny. He always made us laugh with his funny stories. I highly suggest!
This professor is an iconic professor at Northwest Vista. Really cares for his students and wants people to succeed in his class. Not a lot of work but still be ready to read and discuss things. Really entertaining person also. Go Roadrunners!!!
He will ask you to write based on a prompt where it feels like he's asking for an opinions but if your opinion runs contrary to his, no matter how well you write it out, he will give you a lower grade. If you give him a response in class he doesn't agree with, he cuts you off. Very rude. Don't ask for opinions if you can't handle them.
This class is mostly him talking and asking students to talk. The only assignments are a couple of essays which he's kind of a tough grader on. But he's very nice and easy to talk to.
Prof. Lewis's class wasn't terrible, it just wasn't for me. A lot of reading and watching videos to do the assignments and tests, super strict on only using the resources he provides. He does accept late work. Overall boring class, just needed the credit.
He has been my favorite professor ever. The lecture is typically a couple readings he provides (no outside sources) and an 5-10 minute video. Accepts late work until the last day of the semester, some of my late assignments didn't even have points deducted. I would take him again if I could.
Easy class. Some classes are out of the room and at other locations on campus. The course will have 4 essays and the final. There was one extra credit assignment.
