STAY FAR AWAYYY!!!! This guy is nuts!cocky sunofa B who likes 2c his students suffer.studied my ass off on 1stexam,felt like i didnt at all.evry1round me felt same way!givePOPQUIZES in LECTURE&DISCUSSIONso always have to go n keep up w/mat.TAKE GHOSH!class fills up quickly though!gee,i wonder why...
Okay, he is THE best lecturer I have ever had so far. Very clear and concise. One problem: HIS TESTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! I studied for that first exam for about 17 HOURS straight...and I'm not lying to you..im Pre-med..pls take my word for it...and i did not know half the stuff on the exam!HORRIBLE
He is the suckiest teacher you can ever get. Doesn't know how to teach. He is very awful in explaining things.
VERY HARD TEACHER AFTER THE DROP DATE AT UIC ONLY 80 student WERE LET TOTAL ENROLLMENT IN HIS CLASS WAS 180 STUDENTS CAN NOT GET "A" IN CLASS NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TA ARE PETS OF MR> MIRADE TAKE ALAN GOSH
he is a very good professor. i agree that his tests are hard but if u study and do the problems he assigns, you should be fine. he is available during his office hrs and is very helpful. he may come off as a mean, arrogant guy, but is really nice if u get to know him. i recommend taking his class.
Great professor. I agree that his exams are harder compared to other professors', but at the same time his teaching methods are more than sufficient enough to understand the org chem II..I personally found it more easier to understand and learn just by attending his lectures. Also, he is readily available in his office hours, and quite helpful in a
He is the best lecturer for chem I've had so far..I agree his exams are hard, but he tells you to keep up with the studying the first day of class so no surprises there.. He gives pop quizzes in lectures so be prepared every lecture or discussion..
POP QUIZZES IN 8 AM LECTURE WILL KILL YOU IF YOU DON'T KEEP UP EVERYDAY. EXAMS ARE MEDIOCRE. I GUESS IT WAS OK, SURVIVED WITH a B AND I'M KINDA SMART. THE GUY CONGRATULATED ME ON A B. BUT HIS B CURVE IS HUGE. An A CURVE IS NOT SO HUGE.
his class was challenging, but not as bad as some former students made it out to be. he does give pop quizzes, but only in discussion; his lecture quizzes are all announced. the exams are hard, but not impossible. in my opinion orgo 2 in general requires a lot of effort, so it all depends on how much time & studying YOU put into it.
So far his class has been fairly straighforward. Even though he gives pop quizzes, they are never over anything you shouldn't expect.
Good Lecturer. He is not impossible like some people say. However, the material is very difficult, and his exams are challenging. If you do the problem sets that he posts and understand them thoroughly, you should be fine for his exams.
He is a very good professor because he followed the book closely and his notes in class reflected the book so one would have something to refer to. His tests were hard but if you do the problem sets and actually do the problems in the back of the book you have nothing to worry about. He is hot by the way. I love you miranda...
Very good lecturer, if you read chapter and do problems in back, easy A on test
UNHELPFUL<<<NO CURVE IN CLASS
MIRANDA..UR HOT..
ppl told me this guy is super hard and horrible. turns out he is a great professor, but very challenging. reading his notes and solving the practice problems he provides you can get an easy A.
Miranda is a good teacher, my notes from this class saved me. Best advice for the exam is to buy the solutions manual and do the homework and practice exams, most test questions are similar.
If you aren't completely lazy and/or retarded, if you pay attention, you can pass his class with ease. He told us to start studying for a month before the final, I studied the day before and got an A in the class.
Awesome teacher, unbelievably smart, made organic chem seem very clear, if you study for his test a week in advance then you can def get an A in the class
Miranda seems like a hard teacher but u will learn how to study and how to prepare urself for MCAT. If i were u i would take my oraganic classes with him. i spent a lot of time for his class and i got B.
At first he seems really arogant and tough, but his tests aren't really hard if you study for them. He is very clear with his lectures and notes. If you work the problems out from the book, you should do pretty well on the exams.
was a horrible prof. would not give any curves on exams but he is only one that teaches chem 234 which is bad luck i wish there was a way you can remove prof. like him from school
STAY FAR AWAYYY!!!! i thought he was a great teacher. explains well. tests will definatly test ur knowledge. u can't study day or 2 before the text and hope to get an A. if u wanna do well in his class keep up with him. go home and spend 30 mins on the stuff he went over. i thought his tests are consistent and the layout predictable. gives practice tests. good overall
He's not such a bad teacher. But in order to do well you really have to consistently study, he even says that in the beginning of the semester. His tests are incredibly hard...and quizzes are given frequently. You'll learn alot from him...but you've got to work hard.
Is an OK teacher, very hard exams, unfair grading system.
Hi is very knowleadgeable teacher. He knows what he is doing. He explains the materrial very good. Due to him my interest in Chem. has increased. I highly recemmend him. His way of teaching will really help with standadized tests. Belive me is the best Chem. professor I have ever taken and experienced. To get an A, work regularly, at least 45 min/d
Awesome teacher! Got an easy A. His lecture passes real quick. He makes chemistry very interesting. I highly recemend him. Best teacher. To get A, solve book problems and read his note atleast 1 hour a day. He is challenging, but if you know your stuff, he is easy teacher. By the way he is Chem Genius.
Personally, not into the memorization-oriented teaching style he uses. Sure, it's straightforward and easy for some but definitely NOT interesting or thought-provoking. Wish it was more theory and application, but to each his own. Overall, good and intelligent professor; be prepared to do a lot of work to succeed in his class.
Can't say anything bad about this incredible Prof! He's the best Chemistry Prof I've ever had! Excellent teaching skills, very helpful, and very nice. Although his test are challenging but doable! He made Orgo 2 so simple that I could teach it to anybody! Long live Miranda!
I really enjoyed this class. Although the material is hard and there is a lot of memorization, his tests are really straight forward and he's pretty fair. It's challenging but fair. His lectures are ok. You can tell he knows his stuff. He tries to help you study.
his exams are hard!!! i studied but it didnt help...theres too much info to be tested on. i know many people who retake the class you must work hard...hes basically the only prof for organic II...
Dr. Miranda is very helpful! He has office hours 2x a week and each session is 2 hours. Review sessions. Orgo is Orgo, you have to study hard. Orgo is really hard no matter who you take, but its better with Miranda. Yes Exams are hard, but because orgo is hard. Know your reactions..he warns you! Good Luck, but Miranda is real good teacher!
BEST CHEM PROF. AT UIC...he is very helpful....he knows his stuff....his exams are very doable as long as u study....MAKE NOTE CARDS EVERYDAY AFTER LECTURE....IT WILL ONLY TAKE U ABOUT 30 MIN...BUT IT WILL SAVE U HOURS OF CRAMMING AT THE END....i luv orgo because of him!
Hes a good chemistry teacher, but he is VERY hard, and expects a lot from his students. He knows what hes talking about, but this is NOT an easy course. It demands a lot of study time, and dedication. be wared. lol
his exams are impossible. you will fail if you don't study or study the night before. without his notes, he wouldn't know what class he was teaching. spectroscopy is his one and true love. go to his reviews, and maybe it'll help.
In general science classes at UIC suck, but he is a professor who knows how to make chemistry interesting. His exams are hard but if you just do what he tells you during first class(study 30 minutes every day) it will be an easy A. If you get an A in his class MCAT orgo will be a walk in the park for you.
great class, material was hard, but hes a great prof!
Great professor. Really hard exams. Listen to his advice and review the material EVERY DAY!!
worse class i ever had. Worse book as well.
don't take it!!!!!!!!!!! If you have to then buy diffrent book, the one he requires is usless. Don't take any other classes if you want good gread and study 7 days a week.
He is a great professor. If you need help he will gladly spend time to explain anything to you. If you don't understand something just ask. His exams are insane but you can still get an if you study his notes and try to stay on top of material. I reviewed every week and did very well in his class. Just don't let yourself fall behind and u'll be OK.
The class itself is hard, so it is not going to be easy, no matter who teaches it. But he will help you if you are smart student who understands everything right away, but if are not the brightest one, he will not bother to help you even if you study hard. But there is not much choice in UIC, so I suggest you to study really hard.
I was in Newconb's class and after having cried one too many times after class for not having understood a thing I sneaked in on Miranda's lectures. Et fiat lux. Suddently, I stopped crying and was able to do problems in the book, understand the purpose of a mechanism and was no longer scared that it was me who isn't bright enough.
Good professor but exams are just too hard. You will learn more with Miranda but your grade will not reflect it.
ok look, im going to be honest with you. i took this class a year ago, hardly studied or kept up with info, tried to cram.. and got an F. his exams seemed IMPOSSIBLE. I re-took his class fal06, STUDIED-my ass off, DIDN'T CRAME ONCE, made sure i understood EVERYTHING, and am happy to say i got a B. It WASN'T easy.. but this class is NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
He is the best chem professor i've had! orgo II is hard but it is not impossible. i got an A in his class. Go to the lectures and try to read the material before coming to class. Do problems from the book. The teaching assistants were also very helpful and go to the review sessions. MIRANDA ROCKS
Good Professor, Horrible exams. Study hard!
One of the worst professors I have come across. All you need is memorization of the subject. Although I got an A, it was from memorization. His teaching style requires cramming up without regards to understanding. Students memorize mechanism and get an A
Goes straight out of the book.
he's a very good professor...much better than newcomb...and, he's really cute!
If you do the problems and memorize the material, you will get an A. Simple.
hes very tough and very smart. his class is a real challenge.
really good professor, exams are difficult if u dont keep up with the material..make flash cards right after the lecture and literally stare at them if u wanna get an A in this class...overall, he's very nice, go to office hours, he helps a lot
i had him for the first part of orgo and loved that class...but for the second part... If you are a person who is just for memorization then great, but don't expect to understand concepts. He enforces the memorization style of learning so expect to remeber nothing of orgo 3 days after the final. Worthless.Plus he rushes thru the lecture like crazy.
I had a D in orgo I with Newcomb and a B in orgo II with Miranda. Who would have thaught the teacher matters? Really good teacher, explains everything calmly, sytematically and rationally. Sometimes he is a bit dry, but then he'throw in a jokie to keep you awake. He loves mechanisms that are in the book and not in the notes ;-)
Orgo is gonna be hard, but its a little easier if you take it with Miranda. I had newcomb for Orgo I and it SUCKED. Once i got into Miranda's class i actually understood the material. Study from his notes cause the book sucks. Make notecards, do mechs like CRAZY, and dont procrastinate! If u do all that, the exams wont be that hard.
Excellent teacher! Please do yourselves a favor and take this guy. I haven't personally had any of the other profs- but I am glad I got Miranda. He is very clear in his lectures- material is hard but the rest is up to the work you put in. Says what he expects form you. No tricks- exams are challenging, but if know the material, you will be fine.
Had him for orgo I and II. He's a great teacher, and his class is not that hard if you study consistently.
Great teaching style and sense of humor. The class contains difficult material, but the professor is open for questions at any time. The exams are hard but good grade is possible for those who study through out the semester. Besides, Miranda has a phenomenal memory with names and faces!! Definitely tough but fun class to take!!
Dr. Miranda is truly a phenomenal teacher. He makes oganic chemisty so much interesting and easier than it really is. He cares about students who show seriousness towards studies. Exams are hard but if you honestly studied (you know what I mean) for the exam you will rock it. He does have e.c. on the final exam.
Very smart professor! Explains everything clearly and provides a lot of information. He loves teaching organic chemistry. You have to study everyday if you want to do well. Does provide extra credit!! Final is extreme!
I am upset that everybody claims that you have to memorize so much. I read the book a lot and think that Dr. Miranda challenges you to be creative. Yeah, there are limits to what you can do, but come on guys, there are limits in every subject. I was scared throughout the semester of failing and had a B.
He is really clear about his material and remember whatever he teaches it really appears on PCAT exam, trust me.
The best professor I ever had. I mean Organic Chemistry is a challenging course, but he knows how to teach it real well. He wants all his students to do well and he is crystal clear and very interesting. Do the problems in the book, go to class, keep up with the material, do his problem sets, and I guarantee you an A. EXCELLENT EXCELLENT
He is an excellent professor. If you read the book and then attend class his lectures will be very easy to understand. Make flashcards of all the mechanisms and memorize them! Study every day and review the material in the book. Practice problems and if you dont understand something ask someone right away! He's also hot.
if you attend all the classes and pay attention, you are surely to do fine in his class. be prepared ,his tests are challenging. hes also very very good looking!! super hot:)
Very clear lecturer. However, he's relatively inaccessible, partly due to huge class, does not fully explain grading scheme or curve, and didn't make review sheets for the last month of class.
Extremely clear in lectures. Expect the hardest possible problems on the exams. The average exam scores when I took the class were about 40. If you are good at memorization you should do well in the class. Most of the material can not just be figured out by guessing so a lot of study time is necessary.
go to lecture and use his chapter problem sets....best organic chem teacher at uic
Miranda teaches the course straight from the book. There really is no point to go to class except to learn easier ways to understand the mechanisms. Tests are pretty hard, but if youre good at memorizing, this class shouldnt be that bad
Dr. Neil is the BEST professor you will ever ever ever see. He is really emotional and really friendly person. His cultural background teaches his to be very emotional and extremly helpful. He follows exactly the book. Read and do the problems from the book 10 times before the exam.
If you really want to learn organic chemistry than take him but if you just want the easy A then just forget it and drop the class!!!!!
He is the best teacher ever!!! If every professor teaches like him then i would have the perfect GPA!!! He knows his materials very well and he knows how to teach students too unlike other professors who just give the slides and make us memorize every thing and they just read the slide off the overhead!! he is one of the best teacher i ever had !!!
He's tough, smart. Study hard and you'll do fine, but if you're not prepared to study hard then don't take the class.
He teachers straight from the book, and going to lecture helps clarify things. He's approachable, very smart, nice, and funny. His tests are hard, so you definitely need to study for them, but everything on his notes has a chance to be on the exam, so you do know what to study. I actually hated and dreaded chemistry before, but now I love it!
Great professor. His notes are more helpful than the book. STUDY HIS NOTES! do the problem sets and in book problems that he assigns. My friends didn't even have a book and they passed it with an A. Highly recommend him.
i don't know where all these good comment come from? this is all fake, if you all think he is good and hot why the class average every year is 34 or lower more then half of the lecture fail. seriously don't take that****ty professor. U will fail or get a C, rarely when u can get an A or a B. Miranda sux, take that class in a different college
Great teacher, but impossible tests. good luck
He is a greta instructor but Orgo II is hard itself so just dont forget to study hard. Any q's -come to him and he'll clarify things for you. What I liked is that I only used his lecture notes to study for exams b/c -if you come to class and take notes -- they are exactly like the digest/concise Orgo book.
Got a B both semesters, worked pretty hard. Why do people think hes hot? If you ever got close to him, he looks like golem. And he is NOT funny at all. His jokes are lame. Overall, hes a sub par prof.
Overall the chemistry dept is unorganized and miranda isnt great by any means. TA's are horrible
He is very smart and sometimes helpful but very condescending. Also, prepare for ANYTHING to be fair game for the test, even if he barely mentioned it at all. In fact, if he barely mentioned it at all, there's a good a chance that a big part of the test will be on that material.
Could've gotten a B but His exams are impossible. Studied everyday hardcore, esp a week before exam and still ended with a C. everything is from the book.
Super Hot. I think so at least. I go to lecture to stare at him and hear his beautiful accent.
Very respectable professor. Highly recommended. Extremely handsome does not hurt either!
If you have to take orgo at UIC, he is the teacher to take. I've had MANY chem teachers at UIC and was 100% sure they all SUCKED until I had Miranda for Orgo (the 2nd time around). Yes, orgo is a hard class and you have to study. Study the reactions/reagents (notecards) and understand the notes. He hand writes most notes so attendance is important.
Am I taking crazy pills! He rushes through his lectures; he values memorization / recall over application; and he is more concerned with quantity than quality with his lecture material. Granted, OChem is hard enough, but I had a professor (at another school) for OChem 1 that was a delight. Avoi
He rushes through lecture and his tests value memorization over application. Granted, OChem 2 is difficult anywhere, but he isn't a great instructor. And perhaps I live in a parallel universe, but the "awesome", "handsome", and "clear" comments I've read don't describe the Miranda I know (and most certainly, do NOT love).
he is a wonderful teacher and breaks down everything BUT his tests are impossible. The quizzes are okay as long as you know what was discussed the previous week and STUDY. most importantly GO TO CLASS, 90% of his lectures are hand written. I was hoping for a C in his class but the tests kicked my butt and I got a D so here I go again... *sigh*
By far the hardest class you'll ever take but you can't blame the prof for that! Miranda is by far the best teacher for the subject. He's about as straight forward as it gets. He tells you exactly what you need to know and how you need to know it, and he leaves it up to you to study. Believe me, you have to study! A LOT. I got an A in the class.
Easy class. Easy A. If you keep up with the material and listen to Miranda's tips on how to understand it. He's a nice guy & pretty fair grader. Not sure how anyone could fail this class ... not everyone is cut out to be doctors.
wasn't that great
He is a tough teacher but definitely a good teacher. Its best to have him for both organic I and II. There are weekly quizzes in discussion and 3 exams + a final. Study HARD for the exams. Study the notes, read the chapters, and do all the problem sets he assigns. Attend class everyday because he makes the material easier to understand.
For discussion, make sure you try to take Natalia Chernyak. She is a very good TA. She goes over the quizzes b4 giving them out. Oh yeah, she is kind of cute also!
Well, he started off the class with quite a bad lie: My classes average about 60-70%, so there is no curve. Guess what? Yeah, there were 45% and ~53% averages for exams. When I got below a 60 on an exam, I thought, "I'm not this stupid. The class average must be seriously low." I don't know why the class did poor. Decent teacher. Pay attention.
The class is very hard but if you really study and try to understand everything you have a good chance of getting an A in the class. Compared to the other teachers, Miranda teaches very well. Make sure to do all the problem sets he assigns and study as much as you can. His exams aren't the easiest but if you study, you should do decently well.
A great professor. Teaches very well and exams are reasonable. If you study consistently, you should be able to get an A. Make sure to study study all the stuff he covers in class.
He is extremely clear in lectures and def willing to help if you take the time to go to his office hours. Exams are kind of hard compared to other orgo professors, but if you attend lectures and do problem sets he posts, you will do fine. Oh, and try to sit in the front row to get a better view... he's hot and single! ;)
Great proffesor! He knows how to teach and explains chemistry concepts extremely well. Make sure you attend all of his lectures, because whatever he covers in class will be on the test. Great proffesor!
HE IS THE BEST ORGO PROFESSOR ! SO FAR , the best professor I ever had.
ORGO 1: A great professor. Explains everything crystal clear, loves to help in office hours. Says what is important and how to go about studying. Genuinely cares for students, and gives tips on how to study. But is very hard. Exams are detailed and hard. ATTEND CLASS! Very important to understand material. Go to reviews and do his practice probs.
Extremely straightforward professor. Great lecturer but in return expects great students to tackle his difficult tests. MEMORIZE his NOTES and use the book only as a SUPPLEMENT. Do not read the chapters like you may have done in orgo I - just memorize his notes and be able to use that info interchangeably. Somewhat overrated, but good overall.
Very good at conveying concepts and simplifying Orgo. 3 exams, 1 cumulative final w/20 point EC. 11 Quizzed, drop lowest, and one is worth double points W/extra points counted as EC. First Exam easiest - DO WELL ON THIS - second exam is very hard, and third is mediocre. Final is pretty straightforward. Quizzes are easy points. 80% = A on hour exams
The man can teach, he is incredible at explaining concepts and makes sure you understand. However, his exams will KILL YOU. So don't just plan on cramming the night before, PUT IN THE WORK and you will do great.
He is a really good professor. I was lucky to have him for Chem 232 and Chem 234. If you want to learn about chemistry my best advice is to take Miranda for Organic Chemistry, he makes you learn. Enjoy the class, he makes it fun. Important to take good notes and understand them in order to do good in his class.
Explains thing fantastically. I really hope that he is teaching 234 next semester because I would love to have him again. I agree that his exams are insane though. DO WELL ON THE FIRST ONE! U will kick urself in the @$$ later on in the semester if u don't. I recommend him
He is really cool. Very good at writing rec. letters. He does it in like 1 day so you do not have to keep reminding him like all the other professors UIC.
He's a good prof but the all the Indian girls who take the class because they think he's hot are effing annoying with all their laughing and giggling uhh
Worst teacher ever! He is overrated and during the summer course he curved down the class at the end because he thought we were the worst class he has ever taught. (All the kids seemed smart, aced most tests but he seemed stubborn)
OK listen up. Very good professor. You learn organic really well. You finish the year saying, wow i know alot, BUT tests are super hard. Make sure you do very well on the first one or else you're dead. Just keep in mind that people don't care how much orgo you know, they care what letter you got...
Miranda is THE prof to take for organic chem. I've had two other profs, and they didn't come close to Miranda's ability to summarize and clarify tough concepts. Of course, that doesn't change the fact that orgo is brutal! If you want to walk out with an A or B, study everyday and invest in some tutoring.
Gives complicated explanations for simple concepts; plays favorites with students; not very good with his office hours if you want to be told in a condescending tone to go away and read the book. I got an A in both of his classes, but it requires A LOT of independent studying. I guess some students like him, but he's essentially useless. Good luck
forreal take him. i had him for orgo 2 n i wish i had him for orgo 1. easy to get a B if you rewrite your notes in a way for you to understand and rewrite mechanisms n then study hard offa them. no ****but hes my favorite teacher of all time now lol
I had Landrie for 232 and i thought he sucked, but after taking MIRANDA, i love landrie! Miranda has good , detailed lectures, but his exams are reallllly hard. no doubt he is very educated and it shows, but why torture ppl with impossible exams? overall i really dont like him. and wouldnt recommend anyone taking him.
OMG! he is by far the hardest professor i have had!! ALthough many people like him in my opinion he is rude to the students! although he does teach well his exams are reaaaaalllllllyyyyy hard and impossible!! I managed to get a B but it took hard work and alot of independent study!!! all i can say is GOOD LUCK u will definitely need it!!
Really good... U will learn, but expect to work for ur grade. Exams are difficult but if u know your material, then you will be fine
Very hard professor. Make sure you get a good cushion for the first exam. That was the only way I got through with a C... Daily practice required. I say take notes on looseleaf and then transfer them in, that way you get extra repition.
Oh Miranda! I took him during the summer and he was pretty awesome. Freaky knowledgable and willing to help. Note: Miranda does not believe the saying "there are no stupid questions". Make sure you've exhausted all other possibilities before you've gone to him. Also, find someone who took the class before you and GET old exams!!! Always take time to do the problem set and when you're finished, DO book problems...all of them. He follows the book completely. Lastly, KNOW mechanisms...seriously.
Great professor. Also I learned that you should attend his exam review sessions if you want to know questions on the exam.
The professor is ok at teaching, but his tests are horrid. I would attend his lectures, but sign up for another professor-this one enjoys failing students (check myedu.com if you don't believe me). If you're lucky you'll pull a C, the T.A.'s rarely speak english and are not helpful. This semester Miranda didn't get to ch 9 until week 15...
He is one of the better orgo professors UIC has. He teached very well and his problem sets are very helpful. The only problem is that when he fell behind, he blitzed us with material. Exams are difficult but not impossible.
Miranda is a Good Teacher especially in note taking, however, the tests are hard and always go to lectures, do the problem sets, and go to the review sessions. Because that's the only way to pass his class.
This is my first class at UIC, and I am retaking orgo 2. Though I am not finished with the class yet, I can say that Miranda is by the best orgo teacher I've ever had. For a summer course, he explains everything clearly. His exams are not easy, but the problem sets he assigns prepares you for all the problems on the exam.
People think he's brilliant but he teaches straight from the book. Exams are impossible to pass because he gets his exams from an unknown source since he definitely doesnt write it and the average is around 30%. Very few come out with B's let alone A's.
I just took Miranda's class during the summer and I thought he was an awesome professor, really clear lectures. His orgo I class is the first UIC class I've taken... orgo is a hard subject, but if you put the work in like Miranda tells you to at the beginning, it's possible to do well in the class. I came out with an A, I definitely recommend him.
After reading a lot of his reviews, I was TERRIFIED of taking Orgo 1. But I took his class anyway and studied hard. I tried not to miss a day of lecture, I asked my TA lots of questions, and studied for about 2 hours a day minimum. I ended up with a top grade. Bottom line, Miranda is an excellent teacher. Take him and work hard.
I took him during the summer session. I basically dedicated the entire 8 weeks to studying, it definitely paid off. If you study a lot, do ALL of the problem sets and the book problems you should be able to do well. After taking this class with Miranda, I feel like I actually learned organic chemistry. I recommend him.
Everyone who says he's impossible or a horrible teacher either is simply not good at science or didn't put enough work into the course. If you work, it will pay off. This doesn't mean attending lectures and cramming the night before. Real work is daily. Unless getting an "A" is of utmost importance to you, a B is very good.
Easily the best chemistry professor I've had at UIC. He made Orgo seems logical and doable. He expects his students to understand, not memorize, the concepts. Lectures are phenomenal, but expect to work hard on your own. Read the book and do a lot of practice questions. That's the only way to get an A in this class.
I took Dr. Miranda for both semesters of Orgo. I must say, I'm very impressed with his teaching methods. He is very clear and concise and knowledgeable as well. His first two tests are straightforward if you really study your notes every day. Tons of reagents and mechanisms to memorize for this class so don't fall behind even for a week!
Really smart professor! work hard in his class. exams are fair and he is good at teaching. he can be funny too.
Hard class but a good professor.
The exams seemed to reach a new level of stupid hard this semester. I love chemistry, and got an A in Landrie's 232, but had to drop this class. The exam questions are so far off from what is covered in lecture. You would think after so many years of 30% averages he would change his ways a bit, but no. Your best effort may get you a C.
Phenomenal chemistry professor. Exams are not hard because he expects you to UNDERSTAND the material, not to MEMORIZE them. If memorizing is your method, you will likely suffer this class. If you dedicate enough practice, Orgo will make sense to you.
Dr. Miranda is a good professor. He wants you to UNDERSTAND the material-not memorize it. You have to go to lecture and take notes- no power points. Tests are hard, but no impossible. Able to get B's on all exams. He is awesome compare to Landrie by FAR. I RECOMMEND for Orgo2 and any class.
Good teacher. His notes are definitely helpful. Review your notes at least 30 min each day and tests will not be impossible. His averages were around the 30s-50s. Second exam is the hardest one in the class. Best teacher for orgo.
Makes chemistry extremely hard, if you study 30-40 hours a week I guess you'll be fine but he makes doing well nearly impossible, his exams are always filled w unexpected material. He DOES TEACH well but makes exams nothing like problem sets/lectures AVOID HIM
Organic Chemistry by no means is an easy course. Dr. Miranda is a great professor, he gives great practice problems and he also has you writing things down to understand what is going on. It's not ALL just slides, which is very helpful. Though, he Does NOT have good time management. He fell behind schedule and rushed at the end.(Summer Class)
