Great Professor. One of the best at Davis. If you have to take O-chem you want him. The class is difficult but that just comes with the material. He explains it very well and is very fair.

really good teacher. really good at explaining ochem. couldn't imagine having learned nearly as much with anyone else. wrote the book too.
excellent teacher...very clear and logical lectures...hard class...but he is the best to take for it...nice too
Very good prof..lectures are clear and organized..tests arn't that bad either...by far the best chem teacher i've had so far
Simply the BEST chem professor. Made ochem fun. Nice, tests were fair.
He wrote the book.... he's too smart and sometimes doesn't realize that we, the students, dont get it.
Good professor, best chem professor ive had, dont listen to anybodyelse, if you got an A in 118B then you can get an A in 118C with half the effort
Best Ochem teacher i've had in college. I only wish I had him earlier in the ochem series so I would understand the basic concepts perfectly from the beggining. I highly recommend him.
fair tests, fair grading....don't be intimidated by him...if you got an a in nasiri's class then you can get an a in his class with maybe less effort
Shore is awesome! I highly recommend him. He explains things in a clear manner and he's VERY approachable if you don't understand something. His tests are fair & straight forward. He grades them himself and actually learns names.
He's an awesome teacher. Very fair in grading although his tests are challenging. He cares a lot about his students and he's SO nice.
There is no better teacher for this class...he is everthing that an ochem teacher should be. His tests are fair and his explanations are clear yet brief so make sure u go over the details on your own time.
The best professor for the 118 series. I wish I had the chance to take his class for A and B. He actually made o-chem intersting
He is a great teacher, and his tests are very reasonalbe. I learned so much from him. He is great at answering any questions you have in chemistry.
Having a teacher who loves what he's doing and teaches with a new jersey accent is AWESOME!! He definitely knows his stuff, and his tets are very fair. Lab is a breeze and the finals is a little bit harder than the midterms. Coming from someone who HATED CHEM, I LOVE DOCTA SCHORE!!!
He's THE BEST organic chem prof on campus...I mean...It can't get any better.
he's awesome! wish i had him for 118A. if i did, i probably would have liked o-chem and learned a lot more. he may have co-written the text but dont let that deter you from taking his class
Very very good teacher
Awesome teacher- great guy- if you have the opportunity to take ochem with him take it!!! By far the best ochem teacher ive had- go to lecture!!!
The BEST chem teacher on campus. I might even gather to say, he will be my best teacher at UC Davis. The guy knows his stuff backwards and forwards, has a good sense of humor, teaches with enthusiasm, AND has a nasaly, high pitched voice. What more could you want? Gotta take ochem? Take Schore!
As far as chemistry teachers go, the best I've had. Fair, and helpful. Very clear in lecture, you really learn chemistry instead of just the reactions.
By far my best teacher yet.Schore knows this material so well, it's insane. What I liked best was that he actually applied the things he taught to the real world. He put meaning into the mechanisms/substances being formed.Schore is a very fair teacher and isn't too hard.DO BOOK PROBLEMS!HINT HINT!
Very good lecturer (he wrote the damn book). Tests were not very easy but very fair.Everything he puts on the test, you have seen in lecture. The only thing is that he seems to like girls better than guys. I went to his O.H. and he wasn't really helpful but when my friend went, he eagerly helped her
the best you can get for ochem!!!! if you want to do well in ochem, take schore. his tests are very fair and his grading is fair too. he is DA bomb!
He was a very approachable professor and helped students understand how the reaction actually works(not just memorizing it!) however, his curve was too high to get an A.. =/
Wonderful chem teacher! By far, the best, most clear, most approachable professor I've had
Best teacher at Davis! Extremely helpful and knows his stuff. I wish I could take him for the rest of the series but unfortunately it is back to Nasiri.
I respect Neil Schore more than Jesus. He is hands down the best prof I've had at UCD. It was a priviledge to have him as a teacher.
Excellent Professor and his teaching style fits perfectly with students' needs. Since he wrote half of the book and the solutions manual, he has a great understanding of the material unlike other profs. He doesn't teach the undergrad classes very often however.
Excellent prof...the ratings are true. His test are fair and he makes class interesting by applying some of the material to real world applications. A+ Neil E. Schore!
Schore was the best professor i've ever had. He made everything very clear, and gave us hints to how to better understand mechanisms and such. He also gave awesome tidbits about how all this was related to real life! made lectures way more interesting and easy to get through
Wonderful curve at the end if you improve on ur tests. Funny at times. Explained everything clearly. But sometimes seemed kinda annoyed if you asked questions but would answer the question anyways.
Never have I had a professor who cared so much for his students. Truly interested in their success. Extremely patient, never frustrated by questions. Highly recommended.
Dr. Schore is one of the BEST instructors. His lectures are VERY well organized. I hated ochem until I took 118B with Schore. His class is awesome and his lectures are very easy to follow. His lectures are NEVER boring and his tests were never too challenging. AWESOME instructor! :)
He is a smart guy who knows how to teach. Explains all the details very clearly. He is avaliable in his office almost all the time and he wants people to go to office hour. The exams are reasonable. I learned a lot from Dr. Schore.
explanations are very clear and thorough
Schore is no doubt the best Teacher for organic chemistry on campus. His explanations are priceless. However, he can be condescending in office hours and not as patient as he seems. He also doesn't care what the averages are on his tests and so his curve is set pretty high. Tests are difficult so you still need to study your butt off. Good prof tho
Schore is a very good teacher/lecturer...i mean he wrote the darn book. His problem sessions are good, first and second midterm were fair, but the final was really really hard. A lot of new material thrown at the last 2 weeks so be on top of it!
Good professor. Highly motivated lecturer. He has a funky grading scale that's not based on the typical "average," but it should be fair.
Great professor, easily the best Ochem professor.
Professor Schore is by far the best professor I have had here at Davis!!! There are a lot of reactions so do notecards and memorize mechanisms. I advise doing good on both his midterms as they are easy, however the final was a killer. He is however a great lecturer and funny guy!!
Great teacher, very clear and helpful. Makes a tough CHE118B class more doable. A ton of reactions to memorize. Fair tests, hardest final ever. Grading curve is really weird so if you want an A, then you better get 90%....uncurved!!! In other words its impossible to get an A in this class! But study a lil and get a C.
Great professor. Midterms were pretty easy, memorize most of the rxns and you should do well. Final was crazy. I went in with an A- and ended up with a B in the class, I have no idea what his A cut off is but it must be pretty high. During lecture he would randomly go off on tangents but he truly cares about his students.
I would kill to have Blavir from the LSC and Dr. Schore at the same time. Talk about hyperconjugation.
This guy is second only to Dr. Enderle. Seriously, he is one of the best professors I have had at UCD. If your future professor isn't Schore, but could be, do whatever it takes to get into his class.
Amazing. If you get a chance to have him, you better do try really really hard to get him Absolutely amazing.
An absolutely excellent professor I've had in my first quater at UCD! His lectures are so clear and understandable that u dont have to work really hard to do well on the Exams. His Midterms are not too hard as compared to the Finals. But, he'll curve alot. Lastly, I learned alot from his class and really inspired to study OChem.
I really enjoyed his lectures, very understandable & helpful. He's funny at times too and a very friendly & approachable guy. However, his tests seem to get harder & harder each time...and the final was a killer. Overall, I do recommend him to those who need to take Ochem! Although he might be tricky on tests, but he's the best prof out there!
best ochem prof at davis
Very good lecturer. Tests are very hard, but Organic Chemistry is a hard subject, it's not the professor's fault. He does curve, and it's very generous. If you attain the average in the midterms you can pass even if you completely fail the final.
His lectures are clear, and he is very helpful and friendly. The tests are hard, but he does curve a lot. A great professor overall so definitely take him if you can.
amazingly smart, best prof at davis by far... people with other teachers came to his lectures and if you didnt go early to class there was no room to sit..
Awesome professor. Lectures were clear and well organized. Midterms were doable and the curve was pretty good. Final was killer, however. That test droped me down a letter grade. Very helpful in office hours though and provides a great foundation for ochem.
make sure you go to class otherwise nothing else to say: BOMB TEACHER
Great professor overall. Made ochem surprisingly not that hard.. Very clear and tests are quite fair. He curves too, even though he claims not to.
Prof Schore provokes a deepened interest for the subject and provides you with amazingly clear lectures. His tests are straight forward (for the most part) and he does review sessions the day before which are super helpful. If you do all the suggested homework you should get an A. I cant say enough about him. GREAT Professor!
Very nice professor who cares for his students. His lectures were clear. There is a curve but no one really knew how it was done. Tests were fair. Go to lectures, do book problems, go to tutoring and you should be ok.
schore is an awesome teacher. very helpful. he has a good sense of humor and answers questions during class. he makes sure students understand the concept before moving on. his test can be tricky but he doesnt do it intentionally. they are very similar to the suggested homework problems that he assigns. there were weekly quizzes that were doable
Amazing professor. It's a hard subject but he made it as interesting and manageable as possible. Tests were hard but were on exactly what was covered in lecture and discussion. If you know the concepts you will do fine, he's not trying to trick anybody like other math and science teachers. Funny too. Take his class if you can.
This professor is great! I loved listening to his lectures, and he made me like organic chemistry. He's pretty entertaining to listen to, and he really doesn't try to trick you. If anyone has the chance to take a class with him, I'd definitely recommend it. As long as you do the homework and practice exams, it's not that hard. :)
Dr. Schore is a very good lecturer--clear, well prep. However, lec mainly cover the basics. To do good on the tests you should know much more than is covered in lecture. I believe students should be required to learn the basics on their own, from the book, and the prof should cover the details. Overall: good prof, nice, approachable, audio book.
incredibly clear lecturer. :) lectures supplement material in the book. do all the problems + ask questions, and you should do fine! midterms and final weren't too difficult/manageable. oh, and he has a very generous curve. and as a bonus... he made ochem fun! :D
Awesome professor. Really clear lectures and is willing to answer most questions during class. Do the problems in the textbook, since he is the co-author of the book. Study hard read the book and you should do fine. Always ask for help when you need to. Exams were fair. Big curve at the end. Most importantly made ochem fun and less stressful.
Schore is amazing. I actually had another professor but Schore explained things so well that I pretty much owe everything I know about Ochem to him. He is clear and precise, knows how to explain concepts with the help of examples, and is the coauthor of the book you use. He is a funny, quirky old man. Not to mention he actually speaks english.
Coolest guy ever. Extremely knowledgeable. Every class he tells a funny story or gives his opinion on a topic, which are always enjoyable. Make sure you work really hard in 118A to prepare you for B and C. Go to his office hours just to get to know him
Great professor, tells you exactly what he expects and tests are not bad.
Amazing professor! Extremely clear and well-planned lectures. He clearly tells you the material he expects you to know. Even though Ochem can get dull, he is a quirky that keeps it interesting. You have to work hard in his class, but if you do all the problems in the book and know the mechanisms well, you will be able to succeed. Don't skip class!
Great lecturer. His lectures are very clear and easy to follow. I did not have difficulties in this class. His exams are fair. Schore made my ochem experience pleasant.
PAY ATTENTION and study before lecture!
Great lecturer, tough material. He breaks it down well. Exams are fair, final was hard.
great professor, the difference between him and other o-chem professors is huge
He's the BEST!! I love him.. He made me love o-chem.. study hard, this class will keep u on ur feet at all times. The tests are fair/hard. He is amazing. Do his hw problems, attend every lecture, go to workshops and you'll get an A. He's my fav. professor at Davis. [You have to study at least 3 hours a day] I got an A and I used to hate chem.
So good, this guy is like the father of organic chemistry at Davis. He is Neil Schore. He wrote the book. Thank you.
He captured the interest of a 400 person lecture hall after the first lecture to the point where the lecture ended with the class applauding him. He makes one of the most notoriously daunting classes into something that's actually quite clear. His class really helps with pattern recognition, which makes learning mechanisms much easier. TAKE HIM.
Professor Schore was very clear on what he was teaching us, which made the concepts of o-chem a lot easier to understand. He wrote on the board during lecture, so it is pretty crucial for you to go to his lectures. His practice exams are similar to his real exams as well. He is also very nice in general, as well as a very helpful professor.
I took a class with Professor Schore while attending Korea University. He was very helpful when I went to him after class if I did not understand something. His tests were not easy but he made sure to grade them fair. At the end of the term, he gave grades depending on what he thought we deserved rather than what we got on the test. Great teacher.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had at Davis. If you have a chance to TAKE HIM for whichever class he is teaching. I was very nervous about taking this class but he made me love the subject and enjoy the class even though it was taught at 7:30am. If given the choice to take him as a professor again, I would. You will learn so much with him!
Chem 118 is no easy class by any means but Dr. Schore made everything CRYSTAL clear as far as what was expected of us and his exams were definitely fair. He's been teaching so long, he has it down pat and he honestly cares about his students. Not to mention he'll randomly break out with some crazy story and make the class fun and entertaining!
As a transfer student I took him my first quarter at Davis. I'm graduating this quarter and to be honest he is going to be the most memorable professor in college. He cares and he is crystal clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took the class for credits in Korea University. He is super nice, caring. :)
He's awesome! Crystal clear and makes o-chem much less scary. He's also really nice and caring. Best professor at Davis!
I was able to learn a lot and stay engaged when taking this class at 7:30am, so that's saying a lot already... His tests were very straightforward, and the textbook he wrote is actually extremely helpful, especially when he is your professor because he writes the problems.
He's amazing!! Even though his class was 2x a week @ 7:30am, his lecture was ALWAYS full. His lectures are clearer than crystal clear. Schore is amazing at what he does. He's always happy, and makes time for some pretty cool stories during his lectures. His tests are fair, but go to class and study hard. One of the best professors in Davis.
Professor Schore was one of my favorite professors here at Davis. He always seemed to be wide awake and enthusiastic for a 7:30AM class. His lectures are very clear, he follows along closely with the book, and he is just a really nice and caring professor. The final was pretty hard, but I would definitely take him for organic chemistry if you can.
If you have the option of taking Schore for Ochem, take him!! He is literally one of the best professors at Davis. Also, he is extremely generous with grading :)
First midterm is THE easiest. Take advantage and do well on it. Dr. Schore is amazing. He TRULY cares for students. He's very concise and clear during lectures. His tests are definitely fair. He is a must take. He also has a great "curve". Final was pretty hard but fair.
Just gonna say two things, 1) People in other ochem classes wake up early just to go to his 7:30AM. 2) He wrote the textbook.
Schore is amazing and the best professor I've had so far. He makes everything clear and understandable and doesn't hesitate to explain in depth why things are the way they are making concepts easier to understand. Definitely take him! He'll make 118 series way more bearable especially when he's so happy and chipper during lectures.
must take
Omg where do I begin..... Schore is AMAZING. He wrote the textbook. He's CRYSTAL CLEAR, his lectures are amazing, he's amazing, his class is amazing. He made me love ochem! I came in on the first day really nervous because I heard ochem is hell, but Schore made ochem really understandable an manageable. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to have him
His lectures were very detailed and clear. He's an overall great professor. His tests are somewhat hard, but if you study for it, then you should do fine.
If you're taking O-chem, you want Dr. Schore. Great lecturer and helpful. His 2 midterms were very fair-however the final was tough and dropped a lot of people's grades. That's life I guess though, regardless, take this guy.
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Professor Schore. TAKE HIM AT ALL COSTS and if not then attend his lectures. He's sweet, clear-cut, and even wrote the book. AND HIS CURVE IS AMAZING NO MATTER WHAT QUARTER. It's based off of his own algorithm not the class average. Had a C- and ended up with a B. THANK YOU PROFESSOR!
Schore is by far the best professor I've ever had. His exams are fair. He wrote the book and has been teaching for a long time- so he knows what he's doing. Definitely go over your notes and mechanisms before tests. Although it was a long lecture and early in the morning, his enthusiasm keeps you up.
He's the best professor I've had. His lectures were really helpful.
Take CHE 118A with Schore if you can! He has a really generous curve. I did ok on the midterms and even worse on the final but I managed to get an A-.
Dr. Schore is the most memorable professor I've had at Davis so far, he made organic chemistry interesting and even enjoyable. He's very clear in lecture and makes difficult concepts easy to grasp. Do not be fooled by the examples he does in class, the exams are much more challenging. Textbook problems are similar to his exams.
Best chem professor I've had in davis so far, arguably even better than enderle. Lectures and office hours were so clear and helpful, there's a reason he wrote the book... Amazing and respected, too bad he won't teach 118b
Engaging lecture !! Helpful lecture note and review session. However, lecture was heavy, be ready to learn.
Dr. Schore is too phenomenal to not take. Just look at his review, all excellent reviews. His lecture are the most clear Ive ever taken in Davis. I even recommend you to take his 118A instead of 8A since he is sooo great. Learning will be fun for once if you try his class.
AMAZING TEACHER!!!! As a transfer student Ive had a lot of exposure to many teaching styles and Prof Schore is by far the most incredible teacher Ive had thus far. Yes it is ochem so youre going to have to try! But he teaches so well and Thoroughly that the material will be enjoyable to you (he helped write the book AKA READ THE B O O K)
I can honestly say he is the best prof I've had so far. He is approachable and always happy. He makes difficult concepts easy to grasp. Only class that can capture my full attention because the material doesn't seem too intimidating when introduced by him. Exams were fair, and the "curve" is very generous.
He is so awesome. I have so much respect for him... you can feel his intelligence rubbing off on you he's just that smart. I was very intimidated by ochem but he ended up making it actually fun and not nearly as daunting as it could have been. I love that he writes the notes in front of you. He is so willing and nice about any questions you have!
Hands down the best professor I've had at Davis. I was really intimidated by the course at first, but Professor Schore gives you so many resources and is so clear during lecture. Also the curve is insane.
Do ALL the suggested textbook problems! This is what allowed me to do good on the midterms and final. There are no surprises, he cares about the success of each of his students. Such a nice old man. Loved him dearly. I wished he taught the rest of the series.
Honestly the best Chemistry Professor I have ever had. His lectures really make the material easy to grasp, he has so many resources available to help you. The best part about him is that he is passionate about what he teaches, is never in a bad mood, and comes in with a smile every day. He wants you to do well,if you do better he boosts your grade
An amazing lecturer that does a phenomenal job at engaging with students. He always gives some back story on the material which makes the concepts much more interesting. Really knows his stuff and is very approachable.
Wow. I had his class in 1987 and because of him I took 3 more years of chemistry even though it wasn't required for my degree. He made me fall in love with chemistry and see the world through the eyes of what an electron would do.
Dr. Schore makes a chemistry lecture interesting, which is a hard task to do. He is clear about what is on tests and what he expects you to know, and he is extremely knowledgable (you can ask him anything about chemistry and chances are he will explain it to you fully). Practice tests are your best friends for midterms and final!
Dr. Schore is a great professor. Orgo is a hard course, so it takes more than just listening to lectures to pass. Get the textbook early and read the chapters before class. Also do the end of the chapter problems to help you get a better grip on the concepts. Do (or attempt to do) all the problems in the discussion manual as well.
He is by far the test professeur i've had. She is extremely smart and can answer any questions on chemistry. He also breaks down the material to make it easier to understand. He always makes time to meet up with his students and is very patient with questions. He really wants his students to do well.
Had him for the OCHE abroad program. Very kind and caring! Did his best to help us, was very accommodating, and listened to his students. The class was hard and he makes you work, but its doable and he does his best to make the exams pretty straight forward! A wonderful person to talk to if you get the chance!
alright
I am currently a Davis student and I luckily got to have him in General Chemistry which covers Chem2A and part of Chem2B material at an institution overseas. He's one of the most caring professors I've had so far. His lectures were straightforward and grading was lenient. He's also a great person to talk to whenever you feel uneasy.
I think he is a complete fake. He seems to me he begs students to like him to get good ratings. The truth is he is lazy and does not want to work hard anymore. His teaching might be satisfactory, but he has a passive-anger personality and does rotten things at the back. Very few people understand this.
Teaching needs improvement. He might be nice, but he can be a jerk.
I wish he would spend more time caring for students.
It seems as if he is getting lazy and old for teaching.
Don't feel comfortable being around him.
he might be a great teacher but he stabbs students at the back who he hates.
This guy spends more time teaching than research, he belongs at the community college or in a trash can
