Don't take the class from this guy. His course outline is 13 pages long, and he likes to do things "his way"..He'll put in you a group of people that you've never met and keep you there, even if they are as useless as he is. I had to drop this course at the last minute, so as not to get an "F" on my Xscript
id definitely recommend Neil. He is a fantastic teacher who is always more than willing to help. He is always super prepared for class and makes class really fun and engaging. he is very clear on what he wants and helps you get to there! by far the BEST teacher ive had at kwantlen over the past 3 years. take him!!
neils pretty good. he helps alot & lets u use cheat sheets in exams which is really helpful. class is usually entertaining, he trys really hard. awesome teacher. would take him again in a heartbeat
Neils really good! He makes class really enjoyable, he sets expectations on the first day of class and lives up to them. Super easy if you listen in class. Midterm was tough, but that was my fault (he gave us the exact outline of the test). Def take Neil, and u shud get a high grade.
YEA HE MIGHT BE NICE AND ALL BUT WHO CARES ABOUT THAT. HE'S EXTREMELY A HAR MARKER AND NEEDS TO CUT DOWN ON THAT. HE FORCES YOU TO WORK WITH THE PEOPLE HE ASSIGNS THROUGH THE ENTIRE TERM NO GROUP CHANGE SO I HAD TO DO ALL THREE PROJECTS ON MY OWN ALONG WITH 4 OTHER CLASES ON THE SIDE HAD NO TIME TO READ TEXTBOOK DUE TO PROJECTS KEEPING ME HELD BACK
He is the best prof. that I ever had at Kwantlen.I LOVE his passion. The classes were extremely fun and intense. I love his own slids, not just repeating the text book materials. He has you chose your own group members. Be wise when working them, your success is relying on everyone. Neil is a great Professor. Hope he can enlight more students.
Neil is one of the best profs I have had at Kwantlen. The guy lets you use cheet sheets for every quiz, midterm, and final!! Double sided too and you can put whatever you want on it! for the midterms and final, didnt study, just spent a few hours making a wicked not sheet and it helped a lot. Nice guy, makes class fun. Take him for MRKT.
He is nice but a rude person. He's extremely a hard marker. He forces you to work with people and in class activities with others.I personally hate class activities because I think is pointless. The project kept me real busy, had five courses last sem and spent the most time in this course but still fail.Do not recommend him if you don't read textbook
Neil is an awesome teacher. This class has a super heavy workload (esp. for an intro class) but is totally doable if you keep up and work hard. There are 2 major group projects with presentations, a pretty tough midterm, and a final. You get to use a page of notes double sided for all quizzes and exams. He is a tough marker, but really helpful.
Neil was an awesome teacher. As long as you pay attention, read your book, and attend class, you won't have a problem. Yes, the work load can sometimes be a tad heavy, but if you break it up through the week you'll be able to handle it. Mid term and final were easy, i thought. He does allow you to use notes for quizes and exams.
Neil was nice but he expect way too much for one course. There's weekly quizzes, participation is based on what your peers give you for online comments, every other week for the first month and a half there was a multipage assignment due in addition to 2 huge group projects. If you're taking more than two courses I wouldn't enroll in Neil's class.
Very difficult, but very good. I learned so much and it really gave me a huge boost for later courses. If you want to learn something and be able to have a significant advantage heading into your next marketing course...then take him.
Great teacher!!
Great Prof! Very helpful and highly recommended!
Neil is a fantastic prof! workload might be more than some are used to especially if you only take this class once a week but he's very clear regarding exams and key concepts he wants you to understand. Group Project was fun, felt expectations were a bit high though. Note sheets make a difference can't believe many people didn't take advantage.
Neil Rocks!!
NEIL IS A GREAT TEACHER, HE IS CLEAR AND MAKES CLASS FUN, EASY CLASS TO GET A HIGH MARK
Very Easy prof. Just read your notes, and do the questions in the practice midterm, because he uses the same questions in the midterm, and you will get an easy B+.
Awesome Prof! Very clear and helpful during class. Midterms are super easy and come from everything you do in class, so its impossible for you not to get an A. He really knows his stuff and makes the class entertaining and interesting.
Neil is a very enthusiastic professor and explains concepts well in class. His exams are fair and tests the material done in class. He give students opportunity to talk with each other and 3 hour classes pass away quickly. Take him, you will not regret.
Simply put, Neil is a great prof. You will learn a LOT with him but learning doesn't come easy, you gotta put in the work and honestly its worth it. Take him.
He is a great professor! I like the fact that he gives you the freedom in class and lets you express yourself even though it may not be the right answer. I looked forward to going to class!
He basically he tells you what he wants and expects of you, now if you don't understand that.. that is your issue. Share the books with class mates, its a waist of money. Work in groups you'll get better marks.
A very helpful teacher. Puts his expectations upfront, and clearly guides all along the way. His classes are fun to attend. Definetly recommend him.
He is a great teacher but his expectations are so high. Midterm was really hard. The textbook is not enough to pass the course.l don't recommend him at all
Awesome. Uses different methods of presenting the material. Very clear. 3probjects, 1midterm and 1final. There will be no surprises it test. Requires time and reading to pull this off. If you are majoring in marketing, I suggest you chose Neil as your prof.
Super useful, Informative Prof. He literally tells you everything that will on be quizzes & exams (Also lets you bring in double-sided note sheet as cheat sheet on all tests). For Projects: Treat it like a REAL Business report. He`s an ex-executive and expects quality work. Prepare to put in 60 pages of work for 90-100% for a 10% paper. No joke...
NEIL IS DA BOMB!! Hard course, be prepared for that, but a fantastic teacher. I cannot stress enough, ask for help, because he will help you. take the group project seriously. If you do well on part two, part three will be a breeze in comparison. Go to class, because the textbook is super dry, and Neil's classes ail help you retain the info.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He cares about his students and wants to them to understand and succeed in the course, as well as in life. His material covers real life scenarios and he brings good insights about the industry he is teaching about. TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY.
Amazing teacher! you can tell he truly loves what he does and marketing as a subject. He knows ALOT and has a lot of experience. He provides note sheets that are filled out during class during his always interesting lectures. He is very interesting, hilarious, and doesn't take things to seriously. Neil is amazing!
Neil is the best prof I have ever had (coming from a 4th year student that means a lot). He honestly cares about the success of his students and is always willing to meet with them to discuss whatever they need, even outside of regular office hours. His teaching style and good sense of humor helps ease the sting of this intense and hard course.
Neil is truly dedicated to teaching. He's highly organized and if you want to pass 3140 you will need to be as organized. Follow his reading schedule accordingly, so that you'll get a good grade for the midterm. See him often. He even Skypes! But make sure you're prepared with questions beforehand.
Neil is a great guy. He's got a sense of humor and loves teaching. He's very organized and one of the smartest people I have ever met, so if you think you can outwit him, think again. Goes out of his way to help but he is a very hard marker in this class. This class is hard either way but if you're going to take it then take it with Neil.
This guy is DA BOMB!!!! like he's one of da best prof out there!! so hilarious and passionate for teaching!! love him to death and I would take his class again!! :)
Very inspirational, very well prepared for lectures and tries very hard to clear up any complicated concepts. Lots of reading required, tests often have lots of STEPS concepts. (taught in textbook)
Neil is a really help, funny and nice guy, but he has really high expectations. His project was a pain and quizzes, midterms and exams were really complicated. You can use a cheatsheet but those to not help as much unless you copy and paste the chapters onto a 8by10 double-sided paper.
Neil is an inspiring prof. He is passionate about what he teaches and he is always ready to answer your questions. He also has a lot of experience as a marketer so his stories are really applicable to the course. LOTS OF READING for a first year course but thats all 1st yr courses. Make sure you set aside at least 3-5 hrs a week to read&exercises!
Great prof! Knows his stuff really well!! Brings tremendous real life experience to the table. Easy class if you read and pay attention. MAKE SURE you choose a good group for the group project, don't get caught with a bunch of slackers, who do 0 work. Recommend buying the hard-copy textbook over the online version.
One of the best prof at KPU. Know what he is teaching. Very funny! Neil makes sure everyone understand the material before moving on. He uses lots of examples that are helpful to understand the material. Makes class very enjoyable. Class exercise are very helpful for midterm and final. Get 1 sheet of cheat sheet for midterm + final. Recommend! :)
If you want to get a higher mark than 20% on your cases, go see the prof!!! Follow his format exactly!
One of the best profs I've had a class with. 3140 in itself is a challenging class, but ask Neil for any doubts or questions you have and he will be more than happy to help you succeed. A very Fair marker, makes you work for every mark. PARTICIPATION plays a major role in passing 3140. Goodluck!!
The course is not that easy and needs your patience and hard work. He is also a hard marker but his class is interesting. There is one mt exam and some online quizzes. The assignments are kind of hard,
Neil's KPUs best marketing prof. He treats class like a business: incorporating feedback, efficiently using classtime, & ensuring u get ur money's worth. Classes are engaging. Main project's very challenging so START EARLY! If ur in sales, u can use almost everything from 4160 in the workplace right away. Great class. Awesome prof!
Neil cares about you & your grade, but he expects you to work hard. He's probably the most respected MRKT prof @KPU. Take him if you can. Neil is VERY clear in his grading criteria, so follow his instructions to the tee & don't withdraw! Take his feedback onboard. Work extra hard in this class as it'll prepare you for the dreaded ENTR 3140.
Neil's an awesome prof! Learned so much from him. Coming into the marketing program I knew nothing about marketing. I now know so much and do so much better in my other marketing classes compared to those who haven't taken Neil. He really prepares you for success. Take his class seriously and learn all you can from him. He knows his stuff.
Neil probably gave himself more than half of these ratings. His teaching is awful and does not respect his students. I would recommend you to avoid taking his classes.
Awesome teacher and is always willing to help you whenever you need it. Hard marker but that is expected from this course. Do the work, learn from the feedback and pick a good group!
He is somewhat nice but a rude person and is an extremely hard marker. Prepare to read a lot if you're going to take his classes.
only teacher that does not judge students. He ddnt kno this but I hv dyscalculia & unlike other profs he ddnt judge me but assisted me@all times I requested help. He continually improves himself as a teacher, smthing all other teachers have failed to do. I ended up passing the class thru hard work & actively seeking clarification & guidance.
he is a great prof. Just do the online quizzes as they add up, attend class for participation, get help when needed, he basically gives you the midterm and final questions before hand-some students are too dumb to figure that out. basically just a hard project, pick a good group and you should get an easy A.
Overall Neil is a nice guy and the exams are fairly easy because he gives you a study guide buuuuuut the work load was unreal for a first year course btw Im in third year not a whiny first year. Secondly I felt like I was in an online course because Neil barely teaches he just lets the McGraw Hill Online textbook do all the teaching.
There's a lot of weekly reading, online homework and an ongoing group project but if you stay on top of everything the course isn't that bad. He has pretty high standards for his students but they're not unreasonable. If you take his class make sure you do the online homework because he uses it to plan the class activities.
He changed his way, he becomes very difficultAny grammar and language problem will lead you to lose lots of marks( even you don't have many marks). Most people only got 40% in case study, if u don't want to retake this course, choose another instructor.
Neil gives chapter readings for homework which have approx 100 practice questions after each chapter. He is funny and his class is fun to attend. He is a hard marker and has high expectation.
The amount of homework Neil gives is ridiculous, takes up a lot of your valuable time, video cases, quizzes , about 250 multiple choice questions after every session all online. He marks very hard on both projects and tests.
This guy is great and his lectures are fun. He gives A LOT of online assignments but doing them really helps you understand the material. There was also a group project going on for the whole term plus a final report and presentation. His class is high maintenance for a first year course and it isn't a GPA booster unless you work hard.
The best prof at KPU
Straight off ENTR 3140 is hard no matter what. To maximize your grade focus on the following: MID-TERM (Focus on M/C (77% is MC), Quizzes (Practice questions/videos), PARTICIPATION (EASIEST MARK BOOSTERS), Networking assignment. Individual case average: 40-60%. Finally get a good group (committed), try to gain as much % from presentations it helps.
MRKT 1199 is a heavy course load, but there are helpful assignments/quizzes. However, Neil seemed to stop replying to many emails halfway through the semester and stopped marking assignments in a timely manner. He also makes a lot of mistakes: assigning the wrong classroom, wrong exam, exam question errors. Lacks detailed feedback on assignments.
Neil doesn't tell exactly what he wants from students, same comments/marks on individual submissions. if you are A+, you will sure pass, but not if you r in C range. if you are other than marketing students, get ready to fail. why this course is mandatory then? Real world, businesses have marketing department to solve issue, so be fair to all
Choose a good group!! The class is a learning curve, so don't be put down if you fail the first few practice and real cases.
Awesome teacher. One of the best I had while going to university. You do have to put in the effort to do well in his class as well as participating in discussions. But he still made it educational and enjoyable.
Neil is a great Prof! He was so interactive and funny! Would totally recommend taking him. He marks participation every class and there is alot of homework online.
He is a great professor! teaches w/ passion and you can actually learn a lot in this class. Makes difficult concepts easy to understand. Cares about his student and easy to talk to. A big part of the project is based on groupwork. So choose a good group! 1 negative thing about the course. You can bring in cheat sheet:) -point GIVES To much HW! :'(
A great professor at Kpu for the marketing. If you want to learn what real marketing is then take him.
Awsum prof
Please please guys, say whatever is true. I saw many recent comments of many people who said that Neil is Awful professor. But I have never seen any professor like him. He is very inspirational, have practical knowledge of marketing. If you are really interested to learn about dynamic marketing environment then take him, you will never regret.
He is the best professor for any Marketing course. Only important thing is to choose good group in his class. He tells you the mid-term and exams before, and allows you to have a cheat sheet with you. I do not think anything else you need for this course. Attend his all classes as participation matters, and you will be fine.
He is superb.
Lacks clarity in assignment requirements. Is rude to students on many occasions. The textbook is irrelevant most of the semester but shows up on the final exam. The course however is not hard as it is focused on a client project plus a simulation. I just wish Neil was a bit more clear on his requirements for the project.
Tons of homework and group work (even for online class) so choose a good group. He is very specific in his grading criteria so read and follow it carefully for full marks. Get ready to read and do tons of online quizzes and multiple choice questions. Very responsive, knowledgeable instructor. Gives detailed feedback. Allows exam cheat sheet.
For 3000 he was terrible. Blasted through hours of useless PP slides. textbook was absolutely useless. Ridiculous amount of assignments with very unclear grading criteria and inconsistent grading practice among peers. Simulation taught us nothing and the final was based on the group project; said we were great all semester then we received a C+.
Neil was a great teacher. Very funny. Will sometimes pick on students. There's a group project that lasts for almost the entire semester. He gives you two weeks to choose your group that you will work with for the rest of the semester on that project. Choose wisely. He used to work for Best Buy and uses that experience as an example all the time.
Best part he wants the students to do well. Took time to give valuable feedback on the final report before it was due so we could fix our mistakes for an improved mark. He just doesn't hand stamps(marks) for free he makes you work for it. If you put in the work, you will do great. Great respect for taking the time to provide feedback on our report
Neil is an awesome guy, really enthusiastic about marketing, and really wants students to learn and enjoy the course. With that being said, the amount of work required is outrageous, and he has mighty high expectations ( I had a 4.0 average coming into this course, laziness is not an issue). Make sure the rest of your course load is not heavy
Great professor, always answer questions. But the amount of homework is stupid. I spend about 6-7 hours a week doing all the assignments (there is about 8/week). On top of that I had to spend $150 on the online components (Marketing Connect & Practice). I would never take this prof again because of the amount of homework.
Allows cheat sheet for the exam. Helps in Projects. Participation matters.
Took the first blended course. May change in the future but very textbook heavy. 100+ questions per chapter, on top of separate video case, quiz, and additional assignments. Leave 5 hours a week at least to cover everything. Great prof, really nice and helpful, always willing to lend a hand. Definitely recommend.
Niel is a great guy and is always available to answer questions you have about the course. I took it online and there was just a ton of homework.. I spent around 6 hours every week completing assignments, forum posts, reports and quiz's which is too much.
Professor was always made available via email, very professional. The course load was extremely heavy, especially for a first year course. I've taken advanced accounting courses which had less homework than this class. Marks are given based on participation. The work isn't hard, there's just A LOT of it. One of the most demanding courses I've had.
Neil explains upfront that this course has a lot of ground to cover, which is true. The home work isn't difficult, but it is extremely time consuming. Huge group project which is very demanding, on top of individual h/w assignements. If you put in the time and work, you'll do well. If you don't do h/w, don't take this class. Overall great prof
Neil has been one of my favourite teachers so far at Kwantlen. He is super passionate about what he teaches, and is very knowledgable. Granted, the course is heavy and there is a lot to learn in one semester. If you follow the online textbook and pick people that you work well with for your group project, easy A. He allows cheat sheets!
Neil gives good feedback and is very caring about his student's success. The key to passing is to think about a viable product to be sold online through e-commerce. IT is important to present assumptions with research and metrics. Set up meetings in advance to not fall behind on work.
He does not care about his students success. If you come up with a case solution that is different from his, you will get a failing grade regardless of how well you write your case and how well you back up the numbers.
He is a really tough marker. You better hope your case solutions match his answer key or you're getting 20-30% on your case at best.
Terrible prof, basically no lecture and expect you to learn everything by yourself, not clear on what he wants on assignments
Neil is not that bad actually and your are more likely to do poor on your first 2 group cases if you follow his feedback for your 2nd case and work accordingly you will get above 60% on rest of your cases. Also participate in class discussion even if you can't defend your analysis because he will give you at least 3/5 for each class discussion.
Neil is very professional, knowledgeable prof who is passionate about marketing. Heavy course load with a lot of readings, online quizzes, reflections, and homework each week. Even as an online course, there's still a group project that lasts the entire semester, so choose a good group. Participation matters and allows a cheat sheet on exams.
Very tough grader.
The midterms and final are straightforward and easy to do. He gives lots of homework that is due within the same week so you don't have the weekend. He has weekly forum posts, online quizzes on moodle or Mcgraw hill, and additional textbook and other homework on Mcgraw hill.
Stupidly heavy workload. Other students in my program taking this class from other profs had half of the homework and assignments. He belittles students for commenting it's too much, and beware: your anonymous feedback is NOT confidential. He will tear it apart in front of the whole class if you say something negative. But he does know the material
Super TOUGH GraderIf you took his class, drop others to make sure you put most of your time into his class! Same class same assignment Vida will give you A, this professor will give you D lol.
I guess this teacher's goal is not to "guide students to success". This professor is asking you to complete an extremely difficult project in a very short period with knowledge you have never learned in any class before. Oh btw, he won't teach you anything lol. P.S. Students call him "Professor Impossible," or, "Graduates Gatekeeper."
The school got a professor who couldn't even use email to teach students an e-commerce course. This teacher does allow students to meet with him before they submit their work, but the revisions he gives during the meeting process are very harsh (basically, you have to redo the whole project). SUPER TOUGH GRADER! AVOID!!!!!!!
This course is kinda heavy! You will have a simulation (2 presentations about it), 1 group project with no clear information, we did not even know what was the project about until weeks 4-5 (2 presentations about it) and you will have a lot of in-class activities which are due the same day but 11:59 pm. HE IS A TOUGH GRADER!
Tough marker. unclear assignments. take with someone else.
Good professor. Classes are a bit dry though, but participation isn't mandatory when taking this class online. I watched the lectures later and I did okay.
He is kind and explains concepts really well. There are in class activities each class, weekly quizzes and homework, 1 midterm and 1 final. 2 individual reports. Exams aren't too hard but they do cover a lot. He is willing to help his students if needed and can be reached outside class. Overall he is good.
prof is super helpful there is an online simulation and a quiz both are online and you can redo them as much as you want they do count for a lot so make sure get 100% on all super easy class, pro was kind and understanding, best prof ever!
super easy teacher. nice teacher
Overall a decent prof. It is my 2nd time taking him. He is knowledgeable in the subject and explains thing well. However, his grading is tough. Super picky and is obsessed with details for the projects. Exams are relatively easy. My class was online so I personally did not use the textbook that much. He gives weekly quizzes which are not too hard.
This professor often inserts unrelated personal stories during class. He expects us to self-study the entire textbook and only cover what he considers key points. Whenever students arrive late, he repeats the material as many times as there are latecomers and complains, wasting time. This is the first time that I rate a professor poorly.
His assignment requirements are unclear, and grading is strict. You must study in advance because he only covers what he thinks is important but still tests on what he doesn't explain. He's inflexible, blaming the whole class for issues caused by one or two students, disrupting his schedule and wasting time, even though others aren't at fault.
doesn't give assignment feedback. gives only one week for lengthy assignments that need more time. there's lots to do every single week, I barely have time for my other 4 classes. he also takes up the entire 3 hours talking about things that aren't important and don't matter. just get straight to the point and leave it at that.
Good prof. Takes time to get to know you and he genuinely cares and if you actually listen you will pick a thing or two
Honestly I really enjoyed his lectures as they weren't boring and they included little check in polls to make sure ur paying attention. A bit of a hard marker but he offers tons of support and is just genuinely a great person. Would recommend taking his classes if u are tired of boring online lectures
Tracey is super easy to understand and is a very easy marker, not. adificult class to do well in as long as u show up every class.
