One of easiest teachers.Fair midterm, final.Killer accent.Notes here and there.
Hard Midterm, Easy Final
I didn't find the accent to be a problem...I thought the midterm was ridiculous. Not even hard, as if you've never learned something OF COURSE it will be hard. It would have been fair if she had taught us that material. but this lady knows her stuff!!!
she's organized. despite her accent she explains the material quite clearly.
accent disturbing at first but it's okay after a while. very nice, available for help, a lot of office hour, fair final, clear and key notes. very good
Very easy tests! clear explanations. overall great
I'm glad students found out that after the first day, there was really no need to complain about ANYTHING, especially the (soothing) accent
very good notes and lectures. no complaints whatsoever. my highest grade ever
She knows her stuff man!
Excellent prof, makes the exams really , REALLY easy. She covers everything in class and leaves no stone unturned.
Pante's awesome. I found that compared to other students w/ different profs I was more prepared for the post test and midterm and such. She explains answers to the types of questions that will be on exams. :)
Doesn't pronounce things correctly, may have problems understanding a few words entirely. Seems nice though. If you ask her questions, check the answers somewhere else as they are likely wrong. Easy test though!!
Great prof~~~ Easiest exam ever had~~~~ Midterm was also good~~~ If u go to her class, then u'll do well in her class~~~~
Dr. Pante is a great prof. Always available outside of class and very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend getting into her section.
She's a very nice prof but teaches okay as it's sometimes hard to understand whatever she's saying. She's helpful outside class, always answers questions, but not always clear on her answers.
Great prof. She is very clear on what she expects us to know for the exams. In addtion, her exams are easy compared to the other profs.
OMG i got 29% on her midterm haah and i got like 69% overall!!! MAN she is a great proff.. although she is hard to understand she is great!!! one of my better profs i have had!!
Dr Pante taught me a lot w/o making anything really difficult. Go to the lectures and understand the notes - you'll do great.
A great prof and a very nice person. Very approachable and friendly during office hours. Midterm was weird, but the final was pretty straight foward. One of the best for Bio 200.

V.V. GOOD PROF! I learned a lot from her class! She tries to explain each point as detail as possible...one of the best profs I've had!
Solid prof, really knows her subjecr.
capable despite the accent.
great prof. teaches you what you need to know and makes a genuine effort.

midterm is so easy if u go to class and use her notes on your cheat sheet. class is kind of dull but attend it cuz the midterm is a really fair test of your attendance.
dry lectures but very clear in explainaing ideas. does a good job answering questions. her exams are easy, so long as you come prepared. brought in good looking TA to help us work on questions.
Great prof. unlike the others teaching the course, she's much more concise. midterm was extremely easy...our class average was 73% or something like that.
really helpful and friendly. gave us an easy midterm -- the average was 10% higher than the other sections. the accent is only distracting for one or two lectures, if that. one of the best profs i've had at ubc!
Amazing prof! She teaches you everything you need to know without making anything too complicated! Gives you a solid base to do the problem solving in post tests, midterms and finals. Seems quiet and mediocre at first but her teaching method proves very useful when finals role around.
BEST SECTION AVERAGE!! Her midterms were quite easy and her notes were good (except towards the end where everything basically referred to the txt). She teaches well and clearly and gives us good examples as well as exercises. The final was common so it couldn't be helped (not as easy). Good class!!
Her notes are not in detail but are very useful for reviewing concepts and preparing for exams.Lectures very clear but can be boring at times.Quite receptive to questions and gives easy midterm. She will make your life easier but you'll hv to get used to her accent.A very effective professor(8.5/10)
What a nice prof! She was really kind, helpful and funny too. Right? Her midterm was easy and her notes was very simple and well-summarized.
Excellent is the definition of this prof, dont take what ppl say that her tests are easy, its her style of teaching and making everyone understand that makes the tests look easy. probbebly One of THE most effective profs and very knowledgable, btw she got the nicest accent!!
u call that a nice accent????wtf.. i had the hardest time understanding her ok prof otherwise but her notes were too simplified and they didnt help for studying so i just used Berger's online notes stupid...
shes a beautiful person i fink, very nice and approachable lady, always has a smile on her face. reminds me of a mother
at first i didn't think much of her as a prof (since the lectures were kinda boring n all) but i really like her notes!! even tho they were simple, if u read the figures and the textbook pages she refers to along with the notes, u'll do really well in the class!! that's all i did for the final and i think i did pretty well =) *fingers crossed* hehe
Extremely helpful outside of class, and very willing to solve your course-related problems. However her notes leave much to be desired. I'd recommend getting the notes off of other sections (Dr.Ljerka Kunst's notes are excellent). Some might also have trouble understanding her lectures, but that can be solved easily by doing pre-readings.
Dr. Pante is a nice lady and quite helpful. I don't think her accent is hard to understand at all. However, I was disappointed with Bio 441 because it lacked any original thought. It's a great GPA booster but I was looking to get a bit more out of the course. I honestly learned nothing.
2 things: she does not have the nicest accent, and she does not remind me of my mother. But she is a good professor. Easy? I think she just is able to get the concepts across in a very clear way. We did cover less than other classes, but things she focused on were more relevant. Her own research actually concerns some of the course content.
She's friendly, approachable, and considerate of her students. Her midterms were very fair and she does a good job covering all the material although her notes weren't great cuz they were all based on diagrams. Also, she is very boring, very quiet(even w/ the mic), and sometimes hard to understand her.
great prof!never fall asleep in her class.Explain things clearly, very helpful in and outside class.A very fun class to take!MT in her section got the highest above other 3 sections!
She makes great notes. Overheads, study questions and handouts are posted online before the class so you're not rushing to draw the diagrams or copy notes during class; you just need add to them. Also, she's ver receptive to questions.
what a joke never went to class and the exam was identical to 2004 exam lol too bad 4 ppl who didnt buy the 2004 package lol

Excelente profesora
I did not feel like lecture was a necessary part of this course. I attended avidly up until the first midterm, after which I realized that Pante's lectures are significantly lacking in material, are hard to understand, and take conscious effort to remain attentive during. I recommend taking this course with Mazari and studying online materials.
Dr. Panté is so kind! She does have an accent, but I've never had an issue understanding her. She explains things in such a clear manner, and it makes me really enjoy her class. Bio is pretty different than what I'm majoring in, however she makes me actually enjoy it. The exams are all written, but the content is pretty easy. Highly recommended!
Very hard to hear her voice and distinguish the words with her thick accent
Her slides are extremely helpful. They're detailed, with crucial info + figures. I found her very kind and knowledgeable, always with really important things to say. Understanding her wasn't hard (she made evident effort to be more clear), except the students in my class would not learn to stop talking over her. Go talk to her 1 on 1, you'll see!
She is a very nice professor with a few accents, which makes it a bit hard to understand her. Her lecture slides are amazing and she does her best to help you understand a topic when you ask. The sample problems are nice but there's no answer key. The unfair thing is final grading where I feel is unfair for people who did well during the midterm.
Her accent is very lovely, and she tries to keep the class entertained. The flaws are in the course structure itself (not her) as there are no answer keys provided for problem sets. Lots of heavy content. Do not get behind. Midterms and final are more based on understanding and applying concepts to experiments, not the actual content itself.
Great prof at the beginning but one incident ruined my entire experience of this course. I was not happy about her attitude. She once told me to wait till the next person's questions were answered simply because I always had questions after class. She also had a strong accent that I had so much trouble understanding.
Has good lecture notes but her accent makes it so hard to understand so it takes such a conscious effort to pay attention. her explanations aren't great and sometimes when she asks the class questions she fails to explain what the right answer is. That being said she seems very nice
I really enjoyed my class with Dr. Pante. I have had difficulty understanding the online notes or her lectures at first, but if you find her after class / during office hours, she would explain it to you in a detailed way which will make you understand the material. She's super friendly and approachable. I'm also good with her accent. 10/10 :-)
Her accent and voice makes it hard to understand during the lecture. However, her slides and the content is great. She makes clear what you need to understand and lets you know when there is a certain concept students tend to mess up on.
Best Bio200 prof! Super kind and caring, and also taught the course material very well. Attendance is necessary, but a lot of exam type questions are hinted throughout the lecture so it is only beneficial for you in the end. Very organized and helpful as well, and this is coming from someone who struggled a lot with biology content.
Clear slides and is passionate about bio but is very quiet in lectures and is sometimes very hard to understand, also doesnt do many questions in class so thats not great. Struggle to concentrate in class as she is so so quiet
Dr. Pante has great lectures, and excels in summarizing the information relevant to the exam. Any complaints about her volume are directly related to the fact that the students in her classes refuse to shut up when she's lecturing. She explained things very well. For BIOL200 the textbook is online. Make sure to do the pre-readings.
Pretty good proff overall. Her slides are extremely good at summerizing key information, and she focuses the course towards exams a fair bit. Her accent and soft voice do make it a bit hard to concentrate sometimes though, and it would be helpful if there was less time spent on redundant information.
Nelly was a good lecturer, it's just that the course content is super boring and dry. She was caring and funny, with the occasional side comment/joke that was super savage. If you don't show up to lectures, her slides are really helpful as well.
She has a really thick accent which makes it hard to understand what she's saying, however, you'll get used to it. Lectures aren't content-heavy but she'll incorporate helpful practice questions and worksheets. The course is hard in general; the tests are all written questions and an essay outline, but the profs do try to make sure you're prepared.
Nelly was a good choice for Bio 200. Her no-nonsense teaching style worked well for the material, and kept the class moving so we got through all important topics. She has a heavy accent, but spoke slowly so there was no trouble understanding her. The exams are notoriously hard, but Nelly did her best to help us succeed.
Nelly Pante is very sweet and caring. Her lectures may not always be the most entertaining, but she decided explains concepts well. She also discovered the Nuclear Pore Complex, which is groundbreaking scientific discovery!
Hard to follow, the other profs lecture was more clear.
She is very nice and caring, but her accent was definitely distracting. She stammers a lot during the lecture, and sometimes, I could not understand what she is saying due to the same issue. Watching lecture took longer time than normally it should.
Great prof. Explained all concepts very VERY clearly, and taught the course by the learning objectives to the T. Answers questions with delight, and fully cares about your learning. She does have an accent, but it's not something that would inhibit your ability to learn. 10/10!
I can not for the life of me understand what she is saying!!!!!!!!!! help
Don't take this prof if you have any kind of hearing problem or processing disorder. I'm sure shes a great person, but she wears a mask and has a heavy Hispanic accent, making it very hard to hear her. In addition, the material is incredibly dry, which is not remedied by her 50 minutes straight of talking and switching through slides.
It's pretty much impossible to hear what she's saying - and when you can hear her it's not helpful. Honestly more efficient and effective to just read the textbook (although even that is pretty poor quality). The class itself is also kind of unreasonably hard because marking is super picky.
I can't hear a single thing she says. I maybe understand 30% of what she's saying at any given time. I stopped going to lectures because it was such a waste of my time. I am very concerned for the final exam, as I have learned quite literally nothing and it's 50% of my grade. There are no multiple choice and all assessments are short answer.
I stopped going to the lectures because I can't hear what she is saying, and even when I can she isn't very helpful and the lectures move very slowly.
She doesn't know how to teach properly. She mumbles a lot and I can't hear a single thing she says, and if I could it wouldn't help. Even when she responds on piazza she won't give complete answers, choosing instead to "guide us" through the question, but the content of the course is so much that her guidance doesn't do anything, only confuses.
It was very difficult to hear/understand her and it never really got better, make sure to sit at the front of the class if u wanna hear anything. Lectures weren't a great guide of what to expect for the midterm which was why half the class failed but the final was much easier
she was a very kind professor but unfortunately this didn't translate to her teaching the content well. she speaks very softly and her accent made it very hard to hear her at times which made the lectures confusing at times, however her slides were very detailed and helpful as they covered the LOs one by one
Sound was definitely an issue the first week of lecture, but the microphone and speakers were adjusted and she spoke louder. I think the people saying this stopped attending lecture too early. She reads from slides most of lecture but will say important info not on the slides that is usually on the exams. Attend lecture and take notes.
Her slides are amazing, she includes all the important information and tells you what problem sets are most important to study for the exams.
She reads off slides (which are cluttered and lack info unlike other profs') and she is hard to hear. Dr. Pante doesn't manage class time well so most lectures are stretched over several days. Hard to contact outside of class.
I didn't find the accent to be hard to understand, but lecture pacing was very slow. I loved she provides effective example questions mid-lecture to reinforce concepts. Exams was a bit tough in that TA/graders are looking for specific keywords/answers that are not directly asked in exam question (basically guessing). Piazza was not active.
Nice lecture slides but kind of hard to understand and doesn't provide answers to questions that other profs do & puts you at a disadvantage. Not active on piazza
Good lectures- goes over good examples in class and I find the pacing to be nice to follow. Very sweet and answers your questions well and with care
She just is not suited to teaching. She made certain simple concepts more confusing and actively put us at a disadvantage compared to other sections. Lecture slides were usually nice enough, though sometimes they would double back to concepts that were just covered which was confusing. Avoid her if you can.
Good at explaining things. Was never confused.
Dr. Pante is deeply knowledgeable, though the pacing of her lectures can be a struggle. She provides slides and recordings, which are great to watch on 2x speed (she talks very slowly). She was very clear about what would be tested on the exams, and went through the ComPAIR assignments in class to give us general feedback. Overall, a solid course.
Nelly is not bad actually. She can be hard to hear at times but she knows what she is talking about and can teach content well enough for you to do pretty okay on exams. The BIOL 200 course itself needs some work but, her teaching style was fine. I would take her again for sure.
