Umm, apparently the bulb was out of service on the overhead for 3 months, so he just sat at the front of the computer lab doing nothing.
Cool guy!
he's a nice teacher just the material being taught is really bad the access text book didn't help at all
a good instructor with clear instruction, great patience and some fun in it
He is a nice instructort.I enjoyed learning in his class during the semester. He has full control on his subject and always wiling to assist the students.
The content of the course was interesting, and quite difficult. Nelson has an excellent understanding of the content. My only suggestion would be to slow down a bit at times. The material was sometimes difficult to learn. I am better for having taken the couse and Nelson was a good teacher.
An interesting course. I learned quite a bit, although the start of the course was way too basicd for even the most beginner students. The instructor definitely knew the course material and was able to answer questions so that students understood.
The part of this class on Windows and Excel was to much review from previous classes taken at NAIT
Nelson is a very hard working instructor. Very helpfull too.
He knows his stuff very well.
I like his teaching style and his patience is also very helpful.
Nelson was being very helpfull for oour class and i enjoyed my class very much .I also want to thank Nelson for being so helpful teacher and nice person
Positive: I liked when you where teaching and you told that one girl to be quiet while other teacher would just help her. Negative: When you see, a student struggling it is not a bad idea to e-mail them and help them through that time. Other teachers do it you can too.
He was a good teacher, easy to understand the steps on the computer.
Nelson covered material at a pace which made it easy for everyone to understand.
Thanks Nelson C, you have been very kind and helpfull instructor. i really enjoyed your teaching and your the course was very important to me. Thanks agian and i wish you an happy holiday with your families. Take care.
Nelson is very enthusiastic and dedicated in solving student problem. He values student and try to understand what is the bottom line problem and make him available for everyone. Thank you very much Nelson for your dedication and enthusiasm. Wish you a Happy New Year.
A very knowlegable teacher who knows his material quite well.
Really nice and absolutely sincere. However it would have been nice to see a little more enthusiasm in class.
Nelson was a very helpful and knowledgeable instructor. He had patience in explaining the material and he was easy to understand.
i think hes a little too tight teaching.. he should have more fun. i have to admit its a really boring class. who would wanna look at all the rows and column and fields and all that****s all day? be a little loose and not be too uptight. joke around goof around... it makes the class a little bareable... otherwise hes a great teacher. take care NC!
i don't think he ever smiles. does not help students.when asked questions just says" read the book"
He is very knowledgable. I appreciated the overview at the beginning of each class. I got a lot out of this class.
Not good at teaching!
Good teacher, boring material!
Very knowledgeable instructor. Friendly if approached. Good course delivery.
Maybe would have really liked to do a project with Access. I think it would have helped to improve my knowledge of all the little quirks and tricks that Access has.
I felt we went through the information too fast for me to truley remember how to do things.
It would have been more useful to have gone through the material in class, instead of spending time making the videos. This would allow students to interact with the teacher during class time and report any misunderstandings as they arise. The emphasis should have been placed on reading the chapters more than the in chapter step by step problems.
Thanks for taking the time to produce worksheets/answers and videos. Also, for focusing on the programs and not on how computers work. I thought ample time was provided to work through the programs and obtain instruction in class if needed/wanted. Thanks again.
Was good starting then, you started to slack on the educating part, was no need to go to class due to all you did was sit there. Your apperance in class seemed like you didnt want to be there in the first place. Positive was the emails we got about new products and other things
Good class - instructor was very reliable and helpful.
Very bad instructor, does not teach
GOOD BUT NOT ENOUGH
seems friendly but won't help in any case..
I took his online class and his online lectures were essentially boring, so I barely watched a video.
It might be boring for some people but if you really want to learn and pay attention he is great I learned a lot in his class, he provided different exercises in the class that were very helpful and useful (excel)
good class
He lectured using powerpoint slides. He seems to know what hes talking about. He always answered my questions. He went at a good pace and ended up walking me through the online stuff on a few projects. Id say you should take him for CMIS
Nelson is very helpful.
Lectures are kind of dry, find it hard to stay interested. PowerPoint notes are vague. But on the plus side, you're given a lot of time to work on assignments.
Nelson has long lectures but they are specific to what is needed. If you have any questions about anything he will always help. He can take a joke too. :)
He is very good professor. Attendance is mandatory, but if you don't miss any class means if your attendance is good he will give you some extra marks at the end of the semester. Highly recommended :) .
I took CMIS with Nelson online and had trouble understanding was expected from the students. When I emailed him I got very little feedback and minimal responses. I found him unhelpful for the online class but he might be better as an in class professor.
One of the most difficult courses in second year, so much to remember. This class is really boring but it is important that you pay attention in class.
He wasn't very clear on what was expected in assignments and I found this class to be a waste of my time.
He graded people on whether they showed up rather then their actual reports.
Gives amazing feedback on reports and has a very clear marking criteria. Takes attendance everyday so it's worthwhile to show up. Lectures can be boring, but he teaches well!
One of the nicest teacher I know!! He helps you when u need help.
This professor is awesome, he will teach every detail of the lesson and he makes sure everyone understands. If you can't follow you just simply ask him while he discuss and he will help you right away. He doesn't embarrass anyone. This is my kind of geeky professor. Very approachable.
He always answers my questions.I have take CMIS2250 2 time. He is best for CMIS2250.
He is a good professor! but I did'n get high mark!
online lessons are quite simple, good test prep, exams are extensive and difficult to get an A.
Every class was a pleasure to go to as he is one of those profs that inspire you to go beyond the course material. Truly a blessed man.
Nelson is the instructor to pick, if you have a choice. He explained everything you needed to know to get a good mark for the midterm and final. He even tried to make this dry subject fun.
Took this course in class and should have taken it online. With a macbook the process of a lot of the assignments was different and if you asked how to do it he would simply say he didn't know because he only knew PC. Made going to class a waste of time. In class he does the exact same thing the online SAM program teaches only a lot slower.
He is a knowledgeable teacher for CMIS2250
Good in the teaching CMIS2250, knowledgeable.
horrible instructor, doesn't explain assignment properly or give clear instructions on what you need to do, doesn't give reviews . lectures are boring. he gives way too many irrelevant assignments. he's not knowledgeable about this course. he's honestly terrible, especially regarding assignments.
This course is not designed most interesting, but Nelson tries hard to help students. However, you should go to class because he will explain more about assignments. If you attend classes, you would have a clear understanding what is going on. And you are more than welcome to ask questions after class.
Nelson is a great instructor which i would love to take more classes with, he explains everything related to the assignments and keep on helping his students, and you are more than welcome to ask questions in class, after class and in emails. VERY HELPING, HIGHLY recommended.
He is a good teacher but online class contains a lot of home work.
Nelson says that this course is an essential course for business students and I am inclined to agree, he does his job well and is very approachable when it comes to questions regarding the coursework.
You're going to be doing a lot of reading in this course regardless of which teacher you have. Nelson does a very good job of explaining all the aspects of each chapter, however his style may be boring for some as it was for me. Attending class is recommended and he does take attendance, but not necessary. There are quite a few assignments.
He is a really good instructor for CMIS course. He is knowledgeble and more important is that he is patient to answer students' question regarding your assignments in class or after class. He also tries his best to help students how to review for midterm and final exam. If you attend class, you will be fine to know everything you need to know.
bad teacher and i would say cannot keep the promise for mark and open the project on time
good teacher!
Very good instructor! He considers all students' needs and will extend the quizzes and projects time to a reasonable time if conflicting to other courses, let you have enough time to do a good job!
Average teacher. He's boring and slow but at least he teaches you properly.
Worst teacher at Nait I have ever had at NAIT. Boring monotone voice and reads off of powerpoints. If you need any help or have any questions, forget about it. He will hit you with the "Figure it out yourself". Avoid this teacher at all costs.
He is a good teacher and flexible to adjust the project course just to make sure that you can do your good job!
Nelson was an extremely patient, thoughtful and thorough. I needed help and guidance with my SAM project and Nelson did a great job in explaining the concepts and helping me where I did not know what to do. Knowledgeable, patient and very nice instructor! Goes beyond what is required and offers additional tips on the lecture. Highly recommended!
He always stays calm and helpful whenever I need help and guidance for any task in the study. If he is not able to give a solution at the same time, then he will provide you an answer through email later. He is an admirable instructor! And if you attend his lecture, then he always gives some additional information related studies.
He is an excellent instructor! if you have this instructor, then You will absolute pass this course.
Nelson is a nice guy but that doesnt make up for his teaching style. I can understand how he would be a good teacher for CMIS1150 because the material is very basic. BUT WITH CMIS2250... its a whole other story. projects were poorly explained and my group had to resort to asking other teachers how to perform functions. frustrating.
Nelson is cool, he doesn't mind if you don't show up in class for CMIS which was a good thing for me because CMIS doesn't really need face to face classes, just do it online it's easy. You don't need to buy the books, just get the code and finish all assignments, projects, exams on time and you'll be good.
50% of your mark is group projects which kind of sucks. If you have problems, he doesn't help and refers you to recorded lectures which just go over powerpoints that don't provide answers to your questions.
A fine teacher but his assignments are absolute garbage. Makes typos and errors in all of his typed instructions so you have to guess to see what the hell you're supposed to do.
Super nice guy. Just boring when it comes to him teaching you how to use excel, powerpoint and word. Recommend you to do the projects as he is teaching to save time and if any issues occur, Nelson responds quick and sometimes moves the deadline for the projects. 100% recommend.
I take his online class. It is easy to follow. He réponse fast. 100% recommend
is great
Nelson is a nice guy but not very helpful if you get stuck. You can tell him your issue in detail and he never knows what you mean. I also submitted a few assignments that never went through for some reason and he wouldnt let me resubmit resulting in my grade being lower than it could have been. Not a hard class but you basically teach yourself
Aneurotypical's beware. Nelson does not respect accommodations, specifically extra time during exams or recording rights. The entire class is lecture so it's dry. I tune most of the class out, then teach myself by reading the text. When asked simple questions he is purposefully unhelpful. He does not appreciate opinions that do not match his own.
Very hard to get in contact with and lazy
willing to re-open an assignment I missed for being sick during the Covid crisis.
Mr. Cartagena has been a good experience for me, personally, as his classes were not mandatory attend, though I attended and found very useful. I simply followed his instructions on the SAM modules and was able to score well. Also, he understands and makes the situation favourable for them, if needed. That's my experience!
Professor Cartegena has been very helpful and quick responding since the start of the semester. He is very clear with instructions and wants you to do good in the course!
Wonderful & detailed feedback. Almost aggressive in his refusal to record classes. He uses a LOT of filler language like "um" and "ah". I had a very hard time paying attention. Did most of the work on my own using the textbook training and modules. The training is great; The tests, frustrating. Not Mr. Cartagena's fault though.
Did not like his style of teaching - can't help you with anything regards the homework due this week, but will start a new module .I stopped attending lectures after 2nd week. Just purchase code and DO NOT GET TEXTBOOK,it is useless. He does not use email lol so internet and bot from sam were my teachers. A lot of unclear mistakes in assignments.
he is a great instructor that give clear presentations to fully understand the material being taught.
Instructional Materials are clearly presented and provided on Moodle. Lectures are not recorded online.
Personally, I like all his lectures and teaching style. He gives generous marks! When I had questions, he let me know easy to understand the concept. He really gives you hints on how to do an assignment and I am guaranteed it.
I appreciate how he handles his lectures especially patient with teaching step-by-step procedures. He is very considerate.
He is a good teacher. He makes time when you have questions and uncertainties. Very helpful.
Group projects are 40% but if you are good at understanding new software in few days then you will be fine. I never learned certain software before but, I had practiced it for 3-4 days before I submit the assignment and it was okay. Don't miss your exams. Otherwise, you will have the hardest time to do final group project just before final weeks.
He is a good teacher. He makes time when you have questions. Very helpful.
Mr. Nelson is a good instructor. He finds time to explain if you have confusion or need clarity in the lesson being taught. A very accommodating instructor that he reply To queries even beyond class time.
Professor Cartagena has been very helpful throughout the semester. He always answers quickly and provides clear instructions on how to get work done. Highly recommend taking his courses !!
He is a good teacher who always work hard to solve the queries of their students. He is very helpful also. He is an excellent teacher. I think he has an incredible gift for teaching.
I really liked his class.
Having difficulties using internet and different operating systems made me behind the class. Mr. Nelson is approachable and accessible during outside class, he made steps and instructions on how to encounter these difficulties, help you to develop your progress, and won't be left you behind. Fair and considerate on every students.
he is really helpful
Honestly, I went to 3 of his lectures. They really aren't needed and you can get by this class just fine if you have some familiarity with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. The practice that is given before the assignment is all you need to be able to complete the assignment. His lectures can be boring.
One of the best professor at Nait, must take again.
It is an easy course to take online. You can just teach yourself with this class. Grading is straightforward with SAMs. He is helpful but sometimes takes time to reply back.
great professor! class went super smoothly & was easy to be successful in
Literally the worst, and i've had some bad teachers but this dude takes the cake. From having documents not being filled out to being literally uncontactable.10/10 worst prof i've had, i only recommend taking his classes if you no choice have too and even if you have too, only take if you know it's an easy class because you wont be getting any help
He is actually hard to approach sometimes.
His course isn't layed out very well. Even if you do some of the questions properly in the assignments it still grades you as wrong which is super frustrating. He needs to go through this course and make sure everything works the way its supposed to. He is also very unapproachable and rude.
Great Professor.
He explains very well he is not listening but he is listening to his students but did not reply to them on .
He is good in teaching but very slow in giving replies to mails
He's very good in providing step-by-step activities that will make you learn and apply it to your daily basis.
Do NOT take this class. Extremely unorganized and does not explain things properly. Everything about this class was confusing, does not listen to the students. Hard marker and if a student didn't respond to you in discussion posts, marks were deducted from your grade. Also does not record his lectures and believes you should be there every class.
thank you Sir. i hope to have you again on my next subjects.
There wasn't much interaction with the professor because you do everything in SAM, but he responded promptly and was helpful whenever I reached out. This class is pretty straightforward and the least stressful in my course load.
GOOD EXPERIENCE
Nelson's recording is too long and makes me sleepy. But he explains the topic thoroughly.
course was difficult but Nelson was awesome. Always reachable and willing to help even at midnight.
he is very brief when explaining and it was fun going to classes. very accommodating and answers any questions students might have in all respectful way
He gives a lot of homework thru SAM but he explains everything very well. always accommodating and he ensures that his students understands his lessons. will definitely choose him over other professors.
Mr. Cartagena was awesome! Would love for him to be a future instructor of mine, again! He was hilarious, very polite, pretty awesome experience... definitely a rare find when it comes to instructors. Hope to have you teach me again Mr. Cartagena! :D would give 7 stars out of 5
good teacher, patient as he goes through steps.
The course was well laid out, straightforward & easy to follow. The supplementary videos along with the textbook were a nice bonus! There were 3 ERP projects to complete using the SAP system. The process instructions are clearly laid out in writing and video format. Better illustrated instructions on how to create a BPMN would have been beneficial.
He's great! Fair and proper. Discusses things rationally and clearly. He listens. Respectful and truly knowledgeable about what he is teaching. Take his class, you won't regret it.
He is an amazing instructor. Everyone in the class loves him!
