Hav him for chem1045 so far my Midterm grade is 101. Very helpful and WANTS you to pass! always answers email and makes time to tutor you. Gives study guide for tests nd if u understand study guide GUARANTEE you'll get an A in the test! Hope he teaches chem 2 in fall 2012. :)
Great professor. Very helpful and really wants students to succeed. His exams are a bit on the hard side, but he really wants his students to know the subject, not just memorize it then forget it. I strongly recommend this professor to anyone! Very funny, but isn't afraid to take command of the class room when needed.
he is preety good. he tries so hard to help his students and make them understand. he's great i would not take him again just because i think at times he tries to do to much. Tests arent easy but u get the test questions a weeek ahead, once you know those answers you'll get an A. I would recommend him
Chemistry is never an easy subject (flopped my first attempt) and Dr. Daniels really helps to explain in depth and WANTS students to understand which is hard to find anymore. He is a great professor, strongly recommend him.
he is one of the greatest professor i have ever encounter in the science field. he is passionate about his subject. he is willing to help you succeed. best case scenario is he lets you review your test and even let you retake them in order to improve your grade. keep in mind its a hard subject. i will definitely recomend him to other students.
Great teacher. Always willing to help you comprehend areas that you are having trouble with. If you do not get a good grade, you either a) did not put in any effort b) are not very bright and should not be in college.
Awesome professor, it's hard to find a professor that actually cares that students comprehend the material, especially a subject such as Chemistry. After 2 unsuccessful attempts, he truly helped to understand. Strongly recommend this professor!
great
Currently taking professor Daniels, He is extremely helpful and willing to take into consideration what his students thoughts are. Chemistry is a hard subject, however professor Daniels will make time for his students if they are stuggling. I hope I get an A!
Professor Daniel is a very nice professor who is willing to helo his students outside of class. He is very understanding and knows that chemistry is a hard subject. His class was not very clear in the beginning but after he took the time out to teach us various chemistry equations and curved 2 of our test, the majority of the class passed with B's
Love this Professor! If you are willing to put the effort in, you will pass. I took him for 2012 Summer Express A (6 weeks) passed with a B. I could hav earned a high grade but was taking 5 other classes. Goes, above and beyond to help his students so much so he does too much and can get off track but other than that, it doesn't get better than him
Most disorganized teacher ever. Tests are announced last minute and every test was a different style. His explanations are too in depth. I learned absolutely nothing and still made a B.
Very nice Prof.but did not like how he taught...or lack there of.Emphasizes group work, which isn't a problem, but shouldn't be done ALL of the time. You work in a group to learn the material (basically you ATTEMPT to grasp the material & teach each other)...better hope you have smart people in your group.S.I was useless.Take someone else.
Dr Daniel knows Chemistry but doesn't know how to teach it. He keeps making it a lot harder than it is. He is a nice person but if you take him, you're gonna have a hard time. You'll have to do a lot by yourself, read the book, look for help outside the class. Some say he helps outside class but if it's the same help he gives inside, that's nothing
Great professor, lecture outlines everything you need to know. Read the text and do the homework! Tests are really hard, but they were open note. If you are really lost, go to him during office hours because he can explain what you need to know in a very easy manner. Would take for Chem 2 no question.
We started with a lot of group/team work, which was awful. He then switched to a lecture style of class, which was much better. He knows Chem, but doesn't explain everything we're tested on. Read and studied the book on my own. Not easy, not impossible, fair with grading.
Dr. Daniel was awesome. You absolutely have to study for his class,he is very fair and concise about the requirements for his classes. He gave me a new appreciation for chemistry. I highly recommend him.
He knows Chemistry, but he doesn't know how to teach it. Cool person, bad professor. You'll have to do a lot of study on your own. If you can take some one else, do it. Don't get me wrong, he is a nice person, and easy grading, but you will feel lost in every single class of his. My entire class was lost.
Easiest teacher you will ever take! Only thing I don't like is he never stops talking, he continues to ramble about stuff which can gat confusing but other then that he's super cool and helps you with whatever, he doesn't take homework for a grade it's extra credit if you wanna do it but I would recommend doing it, and you WILL need a book
Like any normal person, I hated Chemistry! In fact, it is the very last class I must take before entering my program (Nursing). I am still not a fan of chemistry but I don't hate it at all any more... Because of THIS PROFESSOR! You have to study, he teaches in a flipped-class approach! But he makes it super fun(ny) & surprisingly easy! TAKE HIM! =)
I have a new appreciation for Chemistry thanks to Dr. Daniel. You have to study but he makes it as easy as it can get! If you have no knowledge of Chemistry like myself & no desire to. But if I did HAD to take it(like I did)then THIS IS THE PROFESSOR TO TAKE. He will help you with anything, ITS COLLEGE,DO YOUR PART & you'll do fine =) HOPE IT HELPS
He is a very funny teacher! The material is not the easiest, but he tries to gives you examples so that you remember it all. He does assign homework and videos for you to watch at home so that you can gain a better understanding, so that you can work problems in class in small groups.
Good person, horrible teacher. Goes on forever about his teaching style and how you should study for the first 15 minutes of each class for the first month or so, and saying you and your peers should teach each other. I mean they wouldn't been in the class if they wanted to teach -_-
Dr. Daniel understands chemistry to be difficult for first timers and meets all half-way as long as you cover the rest of the distance. He isn't easy by any means, but neither is Chemistry. As long as you are focused and interacting with his lectures Dr Daniel will be there with a grade sheet with an "A" at your fingertips.
Prof. Daniel is one of the better professors I have had period. He wants everyone to succeed and gives numerous opportunities to everyone. He makes class fun as best he can. That being said, you do have to show up, you do have to read the book, you do have to complete handouts. Tests are huge, but makeups are offered. Work for an A and you'll get 1
Dr. Daniel is a great Professor he may come off as a tough Professor in the beginning but he is really nice and wants to see his students do well. Chemistry is not an easy class to take but if you give it your all he will meet you the rest of the way. Tyler video's and the prep guide are your best friend. "B" was my final grade.
Amazing Professor, willing to help to make sure everyone understands the material. Only took 4 test but we we suppose to take 6 but ran out of time. Prep guides are graded about 80pages of problems(not to bad). Do each section every week and you will do fine. Great lectures and uses different methods to learn the material.
Very inconsistent with his method(s) of teaching. It was hard to tell where our class should have been with his assignments. If you're looking for an "easy A" take him - if you want to learn chemistry, you may want to reconsider.
He is a good dude. He knows his stuff and genuinely wants the best of his students. Any negative review is from some one who does not apply them selves....I used to be that person, it's time to grow up.
PhD does not equal quality teaching ability. No textbook, no syllabus, flex test dates, but a lot of head games. Provides copied middle school level Chemquests by Jason Neil for students to "use,"learn from. Do Not Recommend Dr Daniel to learn chemistry basics if you are going into health sciences, or for Hesi or Teas testing preparation.
Chemistry is HARD, period. But if you do the work, show up to class, study hard, even going to tutoring, you can get an A. He over preps u for the Hesi, I got a 92% on hesi chm section. He really cares about students. He's disorganized but makes up for it. Overall he is awesome for the difficult subject.
Do not take this professor. You teach yourself chemistry. Forget about him helping prepare for a hesi or teas test, untrue. You beg for test grades, his lecturesscrambled eggs, no syllabus, no textbook used; you can't prepare ahead. He says practice tests real test, untrue. My good grade is credit of the SLC tutors. Take another teacher.
actually a great teacher, he really tries for his students if you fail its because you did not try hard enough. he gives you a practice test that is just like the real test and reviews it.
Got an A; but did I learn enough chemistry for health science career? No; realized he taught little as possible, regardless of consequence for public health & health science careers. Pharmacology plus other subjects utilize the chemistry that Dr. Daniel did not teach - take another teacher to learn what you need to knowapply.
I loved Dr. Dan, but he was pretty hard, you have to study but he's pretty good on final grades. just do those chemquest papers he gives you and watch the videos he assigns, it'll help understand the subject.
Not a good teacher. Will not prepare you for health science career or needed chemistry for future classes. Makes fun of students. Nice guy, but needs to teach middle school level. No textbook, screwed up system for grading and scaling grades.
This teacher was the most amazing teacher I've ever had. I used to hate Chemistry in high school then when I had taken he's class he gave me a new perspective on Chemistry and NOW it is my most favorite subject. I want to thank him for being such a awesome teacher. He really tires he hardest to get you to understand it. Best teacher for Chemistry.
Bottom line is do not take this class if you struggle with chemistry. Does not know how to communicate with students. Has no organization. Does not return grades fast if he does at all. Spent a large deal of time frustrated and basically taught myself. If you know chemistry really well and you just need the credit this is a good class for you.
Take another teacher or plan to teach yourself. Going into nursing you need solid foundation of understanding, and this teacher does not provide it. Take another teacher because you will need to apply chemistry in health sciences.
Although professor Daniel is very nice, he does a poor job setting expectations and doesn't give students a clear understanding of how the class will be structured. His teaching style is haphazard, and he spends the majority of class "killing time" rather than in useful instruction. Easy A, but not much learning, and a lot of frustration!
Mr. Nelson is a really good hearted man that tries his best to help each and every student understand the concept. Always available for one on one time throughout the class. If you study like your supposed to you should have no peoblem getting an A
Horrible teacher, I would suggest you take someone else. He gives you ChemQuest packets for homework, which he does not go over or check. Makes you feel bad if you don not understand the material. He is a funny guy, but a horrible teacher. You will be teaching yourself in this class. Beware of group pods every class
He gives out this huge packet called ChemQuests and basically just makes his tests by taking questions out of it. Usually spends entire class going over one basic problem related to chemistry, so be ready to teach yourself.
He doesn't make you get a book. His primary way of teaching was giving out a big packet filled with worksheets called ChemQuests. You were supposed to take these home and complete the assigned worksheets and then he'd quiz the class on the material during the next class. He changed the way the class was going to work a lot throughout the semester.
Dr. Daniel is a super nice person, but it is very difficult to learn from him. Without YouTube I would've failed. He handed out 550+ pages of ChemQuest packets. Endless reading! Then beats you up for not understanding the confusing, long packets. Rarely he'll lecture. He goes extremely fast, with minimal examples, all while writing very messy.
Dr. Daniel receives negative feedback simply because students do not understand the work required to succeed in a chemistry course. They want to show up, get lectured, and get an A. Dr. Daniel loves students and provides all the materials you could ever want to do well. He is a great guy and a great professor, but you still need to put in work!
Truth: He's a nice guy and has his heart in the right place; this leads him to provide plenty of resources to aid his students in their studies. The lack of class structure and guidance is what frustrated me the most and left me wanting more...**Student Beware: You have to teach yourself most of the material and be flexible to changes in routine.**
Dr. Daniel definitely has a different teaching style that I had to get used to over the semester. His tests are tough and he is not very clear on what to be expected on tests but he usually does test remakes for the entire class and he gave out a "practice final" that is basically just like the final. Just study and read through the chemquests.
If you don't have the time for chemistry YOU WILL FAIL; however, if you put in the time to study and go to a tutor at least once a week, and show up every class, you'll do fine. Dr. Daniel gives opportunities for extra credit, but don't rely on easy points. As students, we take this class to understand chemistry, not hope we gets an A. Study a lot!
Dr. Daniel is a FANTASTIC professor! He used the Open Stax Chemistry book instead of the Ebbing and Gammon book, which made it a lot easier. His course was full of discussions, animations, and problem solving. He sent out videos, extra practice problems, and was always available for extra help. I wouldn't take Chemistry with anyone else! Great!
RUN AWAY. ABSOLUTELY NO ORGANIZATION!! No course schedule or sequence, lectures are all over the place, he repeats himself and goes on and on about things that have nothing to do with chemistry and treats the class like high schoolers. We are in week 7 of the course and have no idea when the midterm is. HORRIBLE.
Take him !! He really cares for his students. He took to the time to see that I struggle with school and he was always there to help me get further while I have not had that with any other teacher at PBSC. We took only 2 test the whole semester and I got B's on both. Ignore what you hear and take him!
this professor is ATROCIOUS. Zero organization, spent most classes covering what he had already covered for the past month, would get on these rants about attendance and waste half of class. Gave tons and tons of handouts which were never explained, and he would get irritated if you didn't have it done.
VERY EASY CLASS. HE BARELY TEACHES BUT WHAT HE DOES TEACH IS VERY SIMPLE. I TOOK CHEM IN HIGH SCHOOL SO IT WAS A VERY EASY A. FOR THOSE WHO HAD NO CHEM BACKGROUND I COULD SEE IT BEING DIFFICULT DUE TO THE FACT HE BARELY LECTURES. VERY EASY TESTS AND BARELY ANY WORK.
Get ready to teach yourself guys. He's an extremely smart guy and seems to genuinely care about the students, but the orginization is a NIGHTMARE. He hands out a million papers for you to do at home and teaches close to nothing in class. He also expects you to memorize almost every chart in the book. Definitely not the best teacher I've had.
DON'T TAKE THIS MAN!he does not teach anything and expects you to be as smart as he is. He never lectures and only gives you packets that teach you nothing!he expects you to do all of them and to pass just about everything. You will have to teach yourself everything. He will put you in groups and will never give someone the right answers to packets
This class has been an absolute nightmare. The class is unorganized. His jokes are more offensive than they are funny. He doesn't post grades on blackboard which is something students heavily rely on to make sure they are passing. He expected us to teach ourselves and barely taught us. He's nice and all but a terrible teacher. Professor is pitiful.
This class was so stressful. I've also been a straight A student and this class did nothing but exhaust me. There is no structure and you have to teach yourself. Everything is cumulative so if you don't understand the material in the beginning good luck understanding the end. He is nice but I don't recommend.
Dr. Daniel truly cares for his students. This is a self teaching class and if you're going into the medical field you better get used to it ,so the method to his madness is understandable! You must put in the time and effort if you want to succeed. He gives out a lot of resources and offers plenty of help- even 1-1 time.
Dr. Daniel is extremely smart and knows the subject however, I wish he would lecture more instead of using handouts and videos. Moreover he provides his student with the necessary tools to succeed but you must put in the time and dedication he is also available after class if you have additional question. Overall hes a great professor!
Dr. Daniel was a bit challenging especially for myself who has never taken Chemistry in his life. Dr. Daniel, did give out a lot of worksheets/packets to give as homework, he lectured good to sort make it easier for us to understand. He did give out quizzes, but they were always based on what section we were learning. He was lenient and fair.
He's a very nice professor. The class is very difficult. You separate into groups and you have to depend on each to learn. So, if your in a group clueless like you, it will be very difficult. He does not teach. It is specified in his syllabus.
This professor is fair and think about his students. He tries to build a relationship with his students. A lot of handouts and videos to watch. However they make understanding the content easier.
He is a nice guy and always available after class if you need help
Dr. Daniel is certainly knowledgeable, and is passionate about teaching the subject. He is kind and easy-going. He has you work in groups, and doesn't directly lecture. It's difficult to not feel like you're teaching yourself. He does give a good deal of outside resources to help with the material. I personally felt exasperated by the end.
This is a self-teaching class. If youre horrible at teaching subjects to yourself, this is not the class for you. Put in the effort, and you should get an A.
Learned nothing the whole semester and now Im supposed to act like I know chemistry. Dont get me wrong hes a nice person but dont take the class if you expect to learn anything.
Professor Nelson has been one of the best professors I have taken at PBSC. He is a very knowlegable man and hands out a ton of resources to help you understand the concepts. He is also willing to help students outside of class and guide them in the right direction. I appreciate that his grading criteria is to the point. Would definitely recommennd.
Dr D is very caring and very smart( he knows his Stuff) he really wants students to learn. b4 taking his class I read reviews & was not really good but I'm so glad I took his class this summer! Yes he gives out 14 packets for homework but it was not bad at all coming from someone who's never taken chemistry You have to come READY TO LEARN
Love Dr.D!!!! He gave us two tests all semester and wants you to pass. A lot is learning by yourself but he takes the time outside of class to help you if needed. His grading scale is awesome and makes it very very very hard not to pass his class.
Dr Daniel is an amazing professor. He cares for all of his students, he forgives bad grades, he helps everyone pass, and he provides sources for extra help. Anyone who takes him will love him. He is very funny and extraordinary.
Best Professor ever!!! Love his method of teaching. I came to his class with 0 knowledge of chemistry, and the way he teaches make me love the class. I was able to understand everything. If you dont understand just ask, he will find the time to help You. Definitely take him if possible
Prof. Daniels is definitely there for his students. He is caring and easy to reach outside of class. He technically does not require attendance because he gives all of the lesson material and practice stuff online; however, if you want to get his help, attend class. He test you on the things he teaches and talks about. You have to be responsible.
Nice, funny and kind professor, easy A However- if you really want to understand the material - don't take him
Super accommodating.. sets his students up for success.. chemistry is NOT an easy subject but he lets you work in groups at times and helps a lot during class. Hes super caring & friendly. Hes very generous on grading.. take him if youre not good at math or chemistry, he will help you understand it.
Amazing during COVID-19. Great instructor, good examples, and truly cares about your grade. As long as you try, do the readings, and show an effort, you will pass. Works with you. Printed packets to save on textbook costs. Wish I could take for Chem 2.
A lot of people are very on the fence about this professor . I liked his class, i loved how a 50 is passing because thats a god send for students whom are overloaded with classes. The way he handled the covid situation was great granted his online work is not a joke. Cons are that he doesnt really teach in class and he gives you 40 papers a week
The way the online were conducted was terrible. One app for lectures, one for discussions, one for tests, one for homework, some are on the computer, some are on the phone. It seemed nearly impossible to manage especially if this is not your only class. I had to drop it. If youre online because of covid dont waste your money or time. Wait for fall
I can't begin to express my disappointment with this class. The professor is a nice guy but holy hell it was a lot of work. Basically you teach yourself like 2 chapters a week (which is crazy) then take tests on it. The professor doesn't really teach it to you so you have to read. I found it difficult to keep up. My first B since I started college.
The class itself is pretty easy, especially if you have chemistry experience. There is a lot of reading and annotating which isn't too bad. He uses a lot of different online resources which can be hard to keep track of. This proffesor is super nice though and helped me and was understanding when I had to miss classes for work.
Let me start off by saying I would most definitely take this professor again. He is caring, accessible, and flexible. I'm a dual enrollment student and his class was by far one of my favorite. He gives you all the tools you need and guides you. If you put in the work you will excel. He uses: CluthPrep, Perusall, & Chem101
The nicest professor and super flexible but he uses three different online platforms which is super confusing. I felt like I taught myself a lot of the content and he always went over on time during the lectures.
Dr. Daniel is an amazing professor, but beware if your taking more than three classes. He uses three different platforms for homework which is ALOT for a person taking full time classes and working a full time job. I could not keep up with all the assignments that were given so I have to retake the class. He is very lenient on deadlines though.
He wasn't horrible, but it was difficult. He tends to get easily distracted during class. He is still really nice and cares for his students. If you need help, he will help you outside of class and help you understand the concept. There were 3 different websites we used though which was hard to keep up with. Lots of homework. Some extra credit.
Super very awesome nice. Had a lot of personal troubles but he worked through them and made us a priority. I barely did any work but I was active in class and so I still was able to pull out a C. Highly recommend pacing yourself and doing his work piecewise
I genuinely can't recommend him as a teacher. I like him and he's a good guy but he just gives you a series of video guides to try and learn from and goes over none of it in class. Instead of going over what you should be learning he covers like 3 pieces of material over 80 min and then gets side tracked talking about random stuff. Didnt learn much
If you appreciate organization, straightforward material, and timely grading, this class is not for you. Dr. Daniel is incredibly kind and knowledgable, but the class itself was a bit of a mess. Our schedule and requirements changed many times. Assignments were sometimes given last minute. Exams were difficult and very loosely based on lectures.
Dr. Daniel is a great professor. Very knowledgeable and utilizes humor on examples in order to make material easier to understand. He provides several resources that are utilized in class without the need of purchasing an expensive orgo book. I would definitely recommend him for any chemistry class. He is also accesible outside of classroom.
He cares about his students, but rants to us a lot.
I need to figure out where to start. This class could be more exciting and more structured. Due to this being my second attempt at this class, his teaching style would be different. Between this and my last professor, I would rather have a test every two to three weeks. He takes too long to get on track,
Such a sweet guy. Really cares about his students. Goes off on lots of tangents, pretty disorganized. He talks about AI a lot which I thought was cool. I took him for both chem 1 and 2, and I think if he sees you put a little effort in he will do his best to give you an A. Do I feel totally prepared for orgo? No. Did I have fun? Yes.
Professor Daniel is a nice guy, but his lectures were strange to me. Not much discussion of Chemistry, he tends to go off on unrelated tangents. If you plan on taking Chem 2, I'd choose someone else. I didn't feel prepared in the slightest and it made that course more difficult for me. But if you only need Chem 1, he's a good choice.
If you are a working student or taking other classes as well, I wouldn't really recommend taking because he wants you to basically teach yourself by watching videos he assigns. His lectures were confusing.
Don't worry about the negative reviews on Professor Nelson. I had so many fears going into this course but can honestly say he's an amazing instructor, also very helpful. Questions are always answered and he gives you what you need in order to properly learn the material.
I felt that he was an overall good professor, he wants you to learn the material yourself in a sense, but this isn't out of the ordinary for most classes. There are no in-person tests or quizzes; everything is online. His class was easy, a few homework assignments and quizzes, nothing on lockdown browser or anything. I would take him!
He was amazing and I'd take his class over if I had to. I wish he taught other classes because he honestly cared about his students and their success. Take him if you want to succeed in chemistry.
He's a good guy and obviously intelligent, however, he is not a great teacher. There were no tests (except online, which are taken at home), his lectures were not structured well, and the course is taught by YouTube videos he assigns you to watch. If you value the quality of in-person lectures, do not take this professor.
Overall, good class. He goes in depth with topics.
Dr Daniel was a good professor, his class was veryyyy easy. Although he doesn't necessarily teach, he would review things in class. He's quite funny, he would crack a joke in any situation so if that's your kind of vibe then you should take him. All assignments were on aktiv and if you watch chad's prep you'll be fine.
Dr. Daniel is super chill & teaches lectures but will never call on people unless no one participates. Our class was just super fast paced and he truly didn't have enough time to lecture on all of the content but it's open book for quizzes so as long as you take notes you'll get at least a B. Attendance is mandatory but he was lenient about it
He was a great professor and was always willing to explain the material in a different way in case a student needed it explained in a different way. He is also hilarious and chill which created a great atmosphere for learning. He rarely gives homework and the tests are easy if you study
Professor Daniel is great and makes the classes really interesting by mixing real life with chemistry!
