Good professor that gives assignments which are interesting to work on but once you turn them in I hope you didn't want a grade. I have assignments from early march that haven't been graded yet and its almost may. Great communication, never takes more than a day to get back to you. Would certainly take another class taught by him.
He is a great teacher. He was helpful and provided extremely interesting topics. I learned alot in his class. My only issue is that my midterms were lost. I think this had more to do with NOVA CPUs, so I dont blame him for that fault. He was very helpful in trying to correct the issue. In the end I received a B. Neat Teacher.
Took his class online and the work was not that hard. With that being said it was time consuming because of the amount of work given. Exams are a bit disorganized and he tends to come off as arrogant. LOTS of weekly reading required with weekly assignments. 3 exams, forum work, blog, and assignments. Not a course for the faint of heart.
I took the course online for the first 8 weeks and I do NOT recommend it! it is a lot of work and if you have a busy schedule this course isn't for you. I attempted to speak with him about my busy schedule and work load seeing if he'd work with me and he came off as slightly not caring. I liked the course, but take it in person!
Very nice guy... Not a great teacher. He is to all over the place. I would not recommend him for any class.
One of the worst professors I've encountered at NOVA. A horrible communicator and a bad teacher. He can be very condescending and rude in his feedback; especially, when he doesn't understand your questions or concerns, Funny, thing is he actually thinks he's great. Maybe he should try using his "social imagination" more often with his students.
He is nice an all. However very hard when it comes to grading. No matter how hard you try he doesn't appreciate it. Even a miner mistake,he take deducts your points.
He is such an awful professor.
If I knew then what I know now He is EXTREMELY passive aggressive and condescending. I take his online course so I can only imagine how he is in person. Halfway through the course and I hate to submit anything he has to comment on. He is very know it all. Does not know how to critique students. You say the sky is blue he will argue it's red Run
Professor Kofie is very thorough. He likes for his students to be on point. I like the class and it was insightful. Would take a course with him again as I now know his expectations.
The quizzes and essays are not hard but are time consuming. Yet, the exam was nearly impossible. It included very specific facts which is ridiculous to test students on because the quizzes are open book. Another negative aspect about this course is his rude comments on returned work and in responses to questions.
Rude, picky and mean. IT is his way or the highway. Critiques assignments harshly for all to see. He is not helpful or flexible. Many dropped or withdrew from class. this summer.
Horrible!!!! Possible to pass if you read thoroughly and put in the work. Otherwise, horrible professor!!!!!!!!! Very rude and is not understanding from a students' view
Essentially, avoid working with him if you can. The course content is interesting, and the assignments are worthwhile, however, the work load is heavy for 8 wk session. Dr. Kofie is incredibly arrogant, at times hostile, and worst of all INCONSISTENT in grading and assessment. Inaccessible, inattentive, horrible erroneous communication.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! This guy is very rude. Does not give extra credit and is an extremely tough grader. For no reason he will take points away from you. Does not give good reasons for taking points away. He made us do discussion board assignments during snow days when he was not grading for participation. He is never in his office. Very offensive too!
I would not take him again! He expects you to know the material as well as history. So rude and offensive. Loves taking points away for assignments. You will regret taking him. He does not let you do a discussion board post once have missed it and this can drop your grade all the way to another grade letter. Expect to be active on discussion board
I truly admire Professor Kofie because he clearly cares about his students and wants them to excel. He offers helpful feedback to get his students on track. Students who feel his course is too hard or feel he is being insensitive, are clearly not trying in the course.
Do not take this teacher! there have been numerous occasions that I had computer errors due to servers that were an issue on both sides where assignments would get submitted but nothing went it. I would as him if he could help me out so I could re-submit so I wouldn't be failing and he did not care. Also don't debate with him! He takes it to heart!
I love this professor! He tries to keep his lectures interesting. I took this class on Saturday mornings and I would not dread it as much as I thought I would. If you do not have a sense of humor you might be offended by him. He also gives extra time for assignments, wants students to pass for sure.
Prof. Kofie gave good instruction & had the right temperament for this course that forced students to take a profound look at race, ethnicity & race relations in America. Rethinking the Color Line was the text we used, filled with stories, stats & research that challenged what some felt about themselves & others. I would recommend Kofie & SOC266!
Professor Kofie is tremendous! My class was dropped several times throughout the semester due to clerical issues with financial aid, which meant that every time I re-entered the class I had to start the work all over again. Proffessor Kofie was very understanding, helpful, and even gave me an extension to get all the work turned in. He is great!
Should have heeded the warnings below - absolute worst professor of my entire college experience. Too arrogant to even care about students that are struggling to keep up with his excessive workload. Teaches about equality yet he is very discriminatory towards students that dont meet his impossible expectation. Save your time and money. He's awful.
8 wk class. He's great! Exams are tough. Start studying early. I had a Windows update mess up my laptop (I even recorded proof) it set me back a lot. He allowed me to turn work in late and was really understanding. Study for exams! Seriously. He gave me full credit on late work. I'd take his class again. Made you think. I liked it!
Professor Kofie is a nice guy when it comes to lecture but grading and assignments were extremely unclear. I got online quiz questions wrong that I knew were not wrong and he had the course set up for more weeks than the course is supposed to go. I'm a straight A student, trust my warning and stay away from this professor. He's a headache.
All of his feedback feels negative. Do not take class if you are not willing to fight for your grade. I had an A up until final. Could not open lock down browser to take final.i received an F for the entire course. Paid out of pocket. Completed all assignments still failed class.
I wish I would have looked at the reviews of this professor before taking his class. He does not communicate well in any aspect, whether grading or accessing material. His curriculum involved testing on material we never reviewed TO INCLUDE CHAPTERS NOT COVERED ON THE FINAL. Stay far away from this professor, as he is truly a headache to deal with.
Professor Kofie doesn't care. He barely follows his own syllabus which he couldn't be bothered to put actual dates on. we have an abundance of assignments which he cant keep up with grading, and when he does he grades heavily. Had an essay and quiz due on religious fundamentalism last week, he posted the content for the chapter today.
Slow with getting back to you on emails!!!
I'm the person who does things last minute. Not in this class. The material was simple, but leaving everything for the last second was an error. It was hard catching up, and I felt like that spider man meme when I got a bad grade. The teacher isn't bad, you are. Just don't think that it's "easy", it was, but read .. and take notes.
Listen to past reviews & DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I've always received good grades, but struggled through his class. I don't think I learned anything. Very tough grader. His powerpoints are vague. One essay based on a movie. Luckily exams are at home & open note, but really tough grader. if you skip, keep up with work at home & you'll have a chance.
worst teacher to have for sociology. Most of the assignments are due before the due date and if you ask for an extension he expresses you deserve that. He is a funny teacher and knows what he is talking about but is not understandable.
LOVE this professor. His lectures are amazing. This is the type of class where this professor doesn't lecture to things related to quizzes/discussions. He wants you to educate yourself bc these topics are important and interesting. If you understand how the world works, this class is fun. if you're misinformed about the world, good luck.
one of the worst professors I've ever had. keeps his lectures entertaining by being funny, engaging, & interesting but his teaching method is all over the place. didn't learn anything in his class, hard to understand, & unorganized. extremely hard & unfair grader; struggled to barely get a C. would not recommend.
This is the worst professor I have got in my life. He never grades on time. Never gives lecture or explain topics related to the text material. will give quizzes on topics that is not on the book and you can't find it anywhere. and if you ask him about it he will say it was open book exam when there is literally no questions related to the chapters
This is the worst professor I have ever had at NOVA, he mixes up all the material in class, the syllabus does not match with the teaching he does in class, he wants answers on quizzes and test to be precise. I would never take his class again, such a waste of my money and time. I WARN you, do not take this professor.
HATED HIM. I cant stress enough, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I have never had issues with professors but hes ridiculously unorganized and doesnt know what hes doing. The material is all over the place, stuff on the exam is completely unrelated to whats being taught. He made the class literal hell, I wish Id never taken it, at least not with him.
Professor Kofie is a great lecturer. He's very engaging and impossible to not pay attention to. The class time is entirely lecture, but it's still interesting and we answer questions, etc. That said, he was pretty disorganized. I often didn't know what was expected of me for class. If you read ahead tho it's not a hard class. Exams are open book.
harsh grader, but not very good with communicating expectations. i passed with an A, but it was stressful and I worked hard for it. don't recommend. he doesn't keep in touch with his students.
I have had Prof Kofie for 3 separate classes and loved him. Look at rubrics posted. Ask questions if you need to. Remember this is college. Work for your grade. Read materials. He provides FREE materials, lays out all assignments in the beginning of the semester. He is the type of professor that wants to see effort and will give respect back.
Bad reviews below seem to come from students who lack work ethic and don't care to thoroughly read material. This is college, so classes arent going to be easy and will take up time/effort. With his classes, you get out what you put in. He is engaging, provides good feedback, wants you to do well, humorous, and is really just looking for effort.
One of the cool teacher ever. I like him a lot; he is smart, interesting, fun a teacher that I admire and respect a lot.
Listen - this is a college course. Designed to be upper-level which can be challenging! It's a lot of reading but the powerpoints make it easier. All the papers we were assigned helped to reinforce the material and help us develop our own views. He grades tough but the feedback is valuable. Do your work, put in the effort, and you'll be fine.
Professor Kofie replies quickly to all my questions and provides insight on extra questions I have from readings in class. He has been one my my most engaged Professors at NOVA which has made the class much more interesting! Granted, he expects hard work but the assignments are relevant to the class and interesting. I have really learned a lot!
Lectures are detailed and easy to follow
Professor Kofie, was one of my favorite professors this year. His class has brought me joy and taught me well. We get into really interesting conversations about whats going on today like real life problems and thats all the class is about. Which makes it highly interesting!
Mr. Kofie is the most insightful professor you will ever have. He is well informed about different cultures and is passionate about his field. The material he teaches is easily accessible. His classes are always fun, interactive, and informative.
Professor Kofie impressed me. I appreciate the level of thought put into the assignments. In my case, I was a student who put forth sub-par effort, and he went out of his way to reach out and inquire as to my state. For a faceless student among many taking an online class. I felt genuine concern and compassion in that line gesture. A great teacher.
Professor Kofie is a great professor and an even better person! His lectures are interesting and unique, and he is a very funny and knowledgable teacher. I would highly recommend taking this course!
Professor Kofie, is a very understanding and considerate Professor. She tries her best to communicate with her students in regarding their progress and what my comfort them. She is very understanding when a student goes through an issue and wants to do better, catch up and get a better grade. The more you want to learn, the more she will teach you.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH PROFESSOR KOFIE. He has no idea how to make an online class. Everything is disorganized and unclear. The online exams are not available to take TILL THE DAY IT'S DUE. He makes a big deal out of asking to take an exam early. He's constantly changing due dates. The main projects have unclear instructions.
Professor Kofie was very flexible and accommodating when the birth of my daughter occurred during the semester. He provides great feedback and insight and I can tell he has a passion for his field. If you do your work and are an active participant then you will have no issues with his class.
He is one of my favorite professors out of all 3 of my semesters. He give a lot of opportunity for us to participate in class he stays on canvas so if you need him to open any assignments or ask him for any help hes going to answer in a timely fashion
Nice and helpful professor. Works with you if there are issues and responds to emails quickly. Interesting class lots of different kinds of work to keep your grade.
Professor Kofi is very fair, but expect to read and write. A lot of assignments but all are interesting. Expect to keep up with current events and be ready to engage in discussions. I feel Professor Kofi teaches at a true college level so expect that level of quality.
Professor was great and class wasnt hard at all
Good teacher and class overall. Sure there's a lot to read and quiz reviews could be better but it's hard to say no to a class that gives you two weeks to work a bunch of assignments that only take 1 week to do. Perfectly balanced with all my other classes. I would've done better if I hadn't procrastinated sometimes. The teacher is very responsive
Practice quizzes prepare you for the quizzes and exam , so exam and quizzes are pretty easy if you did the practice quizzes . The PowerPoint slides are very interesting , if you read the PowerPoint , you will be ready for practice quizzes .The discussions are pretty interesting too. Book isnt mandatory ,everything are on the PowerPoint. Good class
This is the most Ive learned in a course since I began college. My only option was to take a condensed asynchronous course so I was worried I wouldnt be able to keep up, but I kept up and earned a good grade. The learning material is straightforward and the assignments/exams always line up with the material. Great professor! I learned a ton!
Professor Kofie is extremely clear about his expectations in this course and is willing to be understanding to students who have shown that they work hard for the most part. There are millions of opportunities to get points in this course and tests are very easy to study for due to his study guides. With effort, you will get a high A. Learned a lot
This one was an all online class. He gives you a full week to do a chapter or 2. It automatically locks so no late turn ins. If you email him hes cool to talk to and be honest with he will give you another chance. As long as you do your work and read the chapters the test and videos will be easy
Took the class online the professor allows the full week to turn assignments in. Grades assignments fast usually by the following week Class is straight forward as long as you do assignments and follow the instructions will do good. He is flexible with understanding if issues arise and tries to work with you on extending deadlines.
The class isnt hard as long as you read the textbook. If you have a problem and you email the professor hes quick to respond. Hes also very understanding and flexible to try and get you the best grade possible.
I took the accelerated class which was pretty difficult, but Professor Kofie lays out everything very specifically and gives you plenty of information to ensure your success. He is very understanding and willing to work with you about any extenuating circumstances you have that may inhibit you to turning in your assignments on time.
Dr. Kofie is very inspirational and is a steward for higher education. He expects you to "level up" on your thinking. I am not at all that he has accomplished all that he has set out to do. He does a great deal of humanitarian work which makes him so exceptional as a human being. It was an honor to be within his sphere of influence.
I had professor Kofie for the spring of 2021, and he was awesome. He is not the professor that will let you skate by with rudimentary work. So if you work for it, you will do well. He provided great feedback to my assignments, and by using his feedback, I feel like I was able to improve my writing. Take this class!!
Hes a good professor, very kind and considerate. He's soooo funny and makes the class very enjoyable. Hes very easy to reach, always responds to emails and messages and is very fair. TAKE HIS CLASS!
This is a challenging but incredibly rewarding course. Every writing assignment was met with specific feedback and towards the end of the class, my writing improved thanks to his suggestions. He encouraged conversation and provided guidance. I am grateful for this course and would encourage anyone with an interest in social issues to take it.
Kofie is awesome. I was pretty lazy at the start of the course, but he was flexible and extended a couple assignments I needed. Definitely would take him again.
Enthusiasm for teaching makes him a great professor. Took this class as a summer course, a lot of material to cover in a short period, but he knows his stuff! His lectures are fun & enlightening; he incorporates humor & real-life scenarios to keep you engaged. He goes through the material in great detail and gives back honest & helpful feedback.
Dr. Kofie makes his class very lively, and he is great explaining all the topics for the class. I took his class during summer semester and it was a very fast pace class but I enjoyed it very much. Most of the topics in the class can be tabu, but professor Kofie is professional respectful in talking about this issues. I would definitely recommen
Professor Kofie is a great professor, he really cares about his students and he tries to make the class fun and interesting. His tests are based on his lectures and the textbook he provided. He really likes class participation. He answers all questions. The test were mostly essay, in the end you will leave class looking at the world differently.
He's great and very funny. He wants students to participate in class and his class is stimulating and rewarding. You will leave the class looking at the world differently.
Professor Kofie is a very nice instructor, he's very caring and helpful with students who genuinely care about the class. I took this class during the summer (6wks), the class was fast paced and lecture heavy due to the time. He always keeps the class alive, answers questions and keeps students engaged. Use the textbook & take good notes for exams.
A bit disorganized, but a great teacher - fun and lively, and most of the classes were discussion-based, with readings outside of class. Definitely keep track of due dates, since he doesn't post reminders. Tough grader, but gives good feedback and encourages you to think critically.
I love Professor Kofies class. Hes very good. Very understandable and always in to help.
Get ready to do a good bit of homework. The reading material is key! I was able to communicate with the professor on many different occasions to handle personal issues. He always gives good feedback.
Kofie is a nice guy! He does try and help the students if he but can, his instructions are confusing at times. There is not much homework but all of the quiz questions are short response. Overall he is a good teacher but I do think that he expects all of his students to learn very quickly and think about the same about topics which is hard.
The class is very straightforward. Just pay attention to the rubric to make sure you're not missing out on points.
Professor Kofie is probably my favorite professor at nova this far into going here. He makes you want to go to class.
Overall one of my favorite professors at NOVA so far. He just wants you to come to class and engage. You can really tell he loves to teach and I haven't really had a professor as enthusiastic as him to be honest. Just come to class and put in the work. He's got some good jokes too.
Motivated me to do well.
Professor Kofie has very engaging and fun lectures, and he encourages participation and class discussion. As I've read on this page, some students consider his lectures offensive- however, I think this is only because he is unafraid to touch on delicate issues. Be concise on short answer questions, he sometimes reduces points for lengthiness.
This professor is one of the worst professors you could meet in your life. he grades so hard, gets out of topics a lot, doesn't care if you fail, his exams are hard and he gives zeros on the writing parts even if you answer them. Doesn't open late assignments, he doesn't care about your situation at all. Doesn't even help in his office hours.
wonderful person and very connected to the class at all times.
love the professor, hes a very genuine person and is connected w the whole class at all times. you feel the same energy from him when u enter the class till you leave.
P. Kofie is amazing. Classes go over lectures, but very detailed and lots of analogies provided in class. Very good at making class entertaining (very funny guy) and interesting material, I highly enjoyed his class but not for those easily offended. Definitely would recommend him. Very easy grading if you participate in class and know the material.
Professor Kofie gave me much insight/knowledge about topics we went over in class. He provides lecture notes so whoever misses a class can still be up to date. His lectures were great because he would discuss current issues and how it relates to sociology. As long as you're present in class and pay attention, this class can be a learning experience
Professor Kofie is one of the best professors Ive had in a long time. He mad his lectures really amusing with his commentary which helped a lot since it was an evening class. He actually cares and knows what hes teaching which is why its a missed opportunity if you dont take his course. I highly recommend, hes a wonderful professor and person!
If you're choosing between online or in person, choose in person! I've heard P. Kofie engages well in class but that's hard to get online. Reading the material is crucial and make sure your assignments are in on time, because you get good feedback. Enjoy the class! It's clear he enjoys teaching Soc :)
While the material and subjects are great, you dont get to discus much of anything when taken online. Dont take online if you like that discussion part of class
Genuinely enthusiastic about his subjects & students, Prof. Kofie greatly values class participation & engagement & does all he can to encourage it. Relates class topics to real world examples without distracting from the main concepts. Uploads lectures & notes & provides access to the online textbook for all students. I can't recommend him enough!
Professor Nelson Kofie is extremely passionate about Sociology and the materials that his students are learning about. He encourages thoughtful discussions between class members and always gives feedback on discussion posts as well as quizzes and essays. You can tell Professor Kofie cares about his students and encourages thinking outside the box.
I took this professor's class as a high school dual enrollment. I submitted my final project report on time and in the right place online. He did not see it and give a 0. I ask him for a grade but he said since the course is over and he already submitted all the grades, he cannot give me any points. It is clearly his fault.
DO NOT PUT OFF WORK FOR THE DAY BEFORE IT IS DUE!!!!!!!! This class will force you to pace your weekly assignments throughout the week. However, it is a very interesting class and Prof. N is mostly available for help.
Hes a great teacher. Hes funny. We would watch videos in class that would explain what he was talking about.
I originally had a different professor for this course but she got sick so Professor Kofie stepped in. I adapted to the class quickly with Professor Kofie and he engaged with us by asking questions. I wish I had the chance for him to teach us in person but unfortunately it was virtual.
Professor is able to work with people and gives people enough time for assignments.
Prof. Kofie is a great lecturer. I am always engaged during his class. However I don't feel like this translates well to the tests. Everything is open book/note but the questions can be confusing. I had to remind him to unlock assignments close to the due dates a few times but he is really good about extending deadlines if the class needs them.
Funny and insightful lectures, fosters a relaxed, conversational atmosphere. Loves hearing from students. Very accommodating and open to assignment re-submissions. As someone with anxiety I've found him to be a wonderful teacher for me. If you only turn on your camera and/or talk for one professor, do it for him.
Professor Kofie was a very good professor. Everything he teaches is straight from the textbook and notes. If you study the outlined notes he makes and submit discussions on time on canvas you will be successful in this class. Attending class was very helpful because he prepares you for the quiz through the lectures.
Professor is great overall I really enjoyed the class! A bit of a tough grader. Just make sure you get your work done on time and you will be good
Professor Kofie is one of the best professors I've had at NOVA. He cares deeply about the material he teaches & always keeps class light-hearted. He is easily the funniest professor I've had at NOVA and has an energy unmatched by any other teacher I've had in my life. This is a class to talk & get involved in. I 100% recommend you take his class!
If you're looking for a sign to take this professor, take this as one! Professor is funny and his lectures are amazing! Although he is a bit of a harsh grader, his exams are super easy, straight from the lecture notes (which he uploads). Easy A.
A very passionate sociology professor. He really cares and listens to every students. The lecture enviorment was encouraging for students speak up with no pressure. Even when I agrued aganist or asked questions to the ideas he presents to class, he was open-minded and communciates well. I recommend his easy, fun,& beneficial class.
Professor Kofie is the best professor that I've ever had. His passion is unmatched and really puts other professors to shame. Super animated, cares about the subject, and cares about his students. This was my first semester at NOVA after deciding to come back to college and he really made me proud of that decision. Strongly recommend!
Easily the most amazing professor I've ever had. Energy is unmatched, lectures are enchanting, interactive, and hilarious. Quizzes accurately based off of the reading material. Professor Kofie is simply the best! Originally just took sociology as a social science credit but I wish I could take this class again and again! 5 stars and 10/10!!!!
Professor Kofie is wonderful! He is super invested in the subject and his students. I am not usually the kind to like social studies classes but he was so captivating that I really looked forward to class every day. The most passionate professor I've ever had, by a mile. Quizzes and homework were neither overwhelming nor irrelevant. Simply perfect!
Amazing professor, amazing class! I'm looking forward to summer break but I genuinely wish this class wasn't ending so soon. Learned a lot and loved the guy. Definitely recommend.
The best professor I have ever had the privilege of having! Even if your major has nothing to do with sociology I highly recommend you take this class. You will not regret it!
Amazing professor who is passionate every class, makes the material very interesting, and class is always filled with knowledge and laughter. I will be looking at other classes offered by him for the fall semester because 15 weeks just isn't enough Professor Kofie!
This professor is willing to work out any issues you have, he is very nice as well.
He really does help the student to succeed in their goal. Keep it up prof!
Professor Nelson is very caring and respectful towards his students. The course is organized very well and the assignments are very straightforward and clear.
love nelson very much he is easy to work with and funny. he seems to thrive off of chaotic energy and I am here for it. love the vibe he gives and loved learning from a man who knew what he was talking about and never treated his students with disrespect
Pros- Professor Kofie had to substitute for my professor when she got sick and left for the entire semester. From my experience, he is a very nice and intelligent guy who knows what he is talking about. He was very flexible with our class and was available outside the class also. I would recommend him. Cons- Sometimes he is a little biased.
Professor Kofie is an amazing teacher and a wonderful/understanding person. I have learned more about sociology in this course than in any other that I have taken so far. This course isn't just some throwaway course, the knowledge you can learn while taking this course will stick with you forever. On top of that, it is both fun and easy!
Professor Nelson has been very understanding and helpful to his students.
After 15 years, I began studying. I was nervous at first, but Mr. Kofie, inspired me greatly by cooperating with me. Normally, Professors respond within 24-48 hours, but he responds right away. the way he assigned assignments and gave lectures was very easy and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend him.
He is very fair. He has really been helpful to me while I have been sick.
He responds to emails consistently!!
This professor has a unique ability to make anyone and everyone in the class smile or laugh in some way. Professor Kofie is witty and pretty up to date on the latest trends. He makes it a priority to engage everyone in the class at least once during the lecture and his jokes are genuinely funny. Overall Professor Kofie is must have for students.
Comments on assignments and tests are not helpful, seems annoyed when you need clarification on a grade or comment, fails to provide constructive criticism, and heavy workload. I hear he is better in person, but I just took him online over the summer do with that what you will. If you can keep up with plenty of assignments its possible to get an A.
I took an online course he taught - Pretty funny and the lectures were reasonably engaging. However, he is a little hard to communicate with. Generally, take notes when he says so and refer to the textbook for quizzes and whatnot.
This professor was very good and helpful
Prof Nelson is the best! He is such a kind and caring professor! Take this class, you will not regret it. I never met a professor like him on NVCC's campus. His lectures, discussions, and homework are all relatable to real life, and so interesting. I've learned so much!
Professor Kofie is absolutely hilarious and engaging. Make sure to actually take notes on things he talks about outside of the lecture slides. Even if you think he's going off-topic he is likely lecturing you on a topic you will be quizzed on later. Grades rely mostly on take-home quizzes and DBs, 1 major paper, and 2 major exams. Highly suggest.
I took Professor Kofie's Soc200 course and loved it. His lectures are never boring; he is very funny, intelligent, makes lectures more of a conversation, and genuinely cares about his student's opinions. Assignments and grades are clear and he is very generous when it comes to needing help with classwork or struggling grades. I 100% recommend him
Just take someone else. This guy stacks busy work on busy work and has exams and projects due within just 48 hours of each other and may not realize that other classes, besides his exist.
I enjoyed professor Kofie's class. The homework load is good. As long as you do the work he assigns, study quizzes and the summary notes for each module, you'll do great. The professor is very responsive and wants his students to succeed. A bit passive aggressive but that's just him. He will help you at the end of the day. Super nice and recommend
I am amazed at how wonderful Professor Kofie is. A very kind and knowledgeable professor who has a great passion for the subject. Also very friendly and always ready to guide you throughout the semester. Would take him again 100%!
I loved professor Kofie's class! The class consists of 5 quizzes, midterm and final, 5 discussion boards, and one paper. During his lectures he'll get really off topic and talk about seemingly random stuff, but pay attention when he does because 30% of the quiz questions are about it he'll get really passive aggressive if you miss those questions.
Dr. Kofie is a great professor. He is passionate about the subject matter and makes lectures engaging. Grading consists of two tests, a few quizzes per month, and a short essay. All assessments are done from any location via Canvas; most are open notes and open textbook. Attending class is important because discussion topics end up on assessments.
He is so funny. Very interesting lessons and engaging lectures. The quizzes are a bit difficult but its all open note. I love this guy he's so silly. if you're taking soc, take nelson kofie fr.
Good professor, lecturing is lively and is well versed in the subject of anthropology. When you take lectures from professor Kofie you will admire anthropology . I recommend that you take him, he is a tough grader but if I take anthropology again I will take this professor . He has ability to lecture, give examples and clearly explains the subject.
He is wonderfully simplistic with his assignments and grading. The only things you as the students really need to do, is make sure to show up to class, on time, take notes, and do good on quizzes.
He is a good professor with clear expectations and amazing lectures. There are quite a few discussion boards but they were educational and appropriate for the material.
He is pretty average. Do a couple assignments a week and 2 exams total. He grades fast and provides good feedback. Take him if you're planning to take this online.
It was a pleasure being in his class. He is very flexible, understanding, and always willing to help. Lectures are very open, and heavy on discussion with the class. most of your assignments will consist of open-note chapter quizzes, at least 5 discussion posts, and one Paper. If you're taking SOC 200 there's no one better than him.
There are 4 Discussions 4 Journals and 6 Assignments and of course there is a quiz every module the only complaint is, it is a lot of work and I do not like that there is a 20 minute time limit to a 20 question quiz. I would focus more on time than I did on the quiz. He does email back fast and gives great feedback! I would probably take him again.
professor kofie is so funny that class felt like a fever dream or stand up comedy more than a college course. the only thing is he is a very harsh grader but if you ask for help he is incredibly understanding. 11/10 personality but his grading is frustrating. he is never on topic but pay attention as his tangents frequently appear on tests. slay!
Prof. Kofie gave amazing feedback on every assignment, tailored to your submission, and provides supplemental reading/articles for you. I took his fully online self-paced course, and the workload was very heavy, but manageable if you plan your time well. He encourages you to think critically and use lots of real-world examples in papers/journals.
Amazing professor, was clear with grading and gave great feedback on our assignments. Syllabus and scheduling was consistent and clear. Essays were very interesting and fun to write. 10/10 recommend
Professor Kofie is accessible whenever I emailed him he got back to me asap. Which was really great! There is a lot of essays and quizzes, but as long as you understand the materiel then you should be good. He does give back useful feedback. I truly enjoyed his class and would take him again.
Professor Kofie had all assignments set to lock after due date. There was at least one paper due per week. That doesn't sound like much until you realize this is 1 class out of 4 that I took. I would suggest someone else since most of us know flexible late work policies make life much easier. Other than that, he was sort of a harsh grader.
Professor Kofie is very passionate about not only sociology, but he is excited just being on campus teaching students. This makes for interesting and engaging lectures. He encourages us to ask questions and spark discussions at any time. We watched a lot of great videos and I learned a lot through this course.
Professor Kofie is amazing! This course was truly my fav class I've taken during college. The assignments he gives are relevant and pertain to current social issues in the world. It is a wonderful way to learn what is going on and he does an amazing job at giving good feedback and additional resources. 10/10 would recommend taking Prof Kofie!
Professor Kofie is a great professor. If you are taking this class as an elective for credit then I highly recommend taking this class. Everything is open noted and he really cares that you pass this class. I haven't even learned a single thing and this class was really easy. But, the lectures are really long and boring. But its still an easy pass.
The professor does not plan out assignments well. He made a Essay and a Midterm within one day of each other. For the tests and midterm he does not create a study guide or reviews what is going to be on a test or midterm/ final before so you have no idea what to expect. I asked him a date for when the midterm a week before he asked he did not reply
He's a very nice teacher. The homework and quizzes are pretty easy but you have to read a lot and do a little bit of research. There's only 2 exams, he gave feedback on every assignment. Nice teacher.
Professor Kofie is a lively and extraordinary instructor, and I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from him. He provided comprehensive and detailed information on every topic covered in the course. My experience is a perfect 10 out of 10!
He's very enthusiastic about topics and his lectures. For assignments it's about the topics we have covered in class. He encourages us to ask about the topics and talk about real time events in todays society.
Professor Kofie was an amazing professor. His enthusiasm for the subject inspires his students to learn and participate more!
This was a 7 week accelerated course, so you need to managed your time to make room for reading and studying each chapter. As long as you read and understand the material you should pass the class with an A or B. Professor Kofie was quick to respond and provides helpful feedback in understanding the assignments better. I recommend taking his class!
I quite enjoyed this class. There were a few times where I struggled with the assignments but overall the topics were quite simple. I would highly recommend studying the quizzes for the exams. You definitely will want to manage your time as a few times there was a lot of work due(because it was a short class length). Overall, great class!
Professor Kofie hosts great interactive lectures and is very interesting to listen too. Furthermore, he is extremely understanding and is super caring. SOC 200 was easy with him and was actually enjoyable because of Professor Kofie.
I took SOC200 with Professor Kofie, and I was able to take away a lot from this class. It is pretty writing heavy, but not to an unreasonable extent, and all the assignments had an express purpose that added a lot to the experience and subject matter. It is clear how passionate he is about this subject. I highly recommend this course!
Professor Kofie is fair and accommodating. You truly get what you put into this course and he rewards strong effort. The class I took (Intro to Sociology) was asynchronous which understandably involved lots of homework, reading, and quizzes, but it was easy to pace myself and get in contact with him for clarity as needed. I learned a lot.
This was my first time taking an online class and pretty good. All you do is read the textbook, watch videos (1-2 documentaries), write a few essays (not much), some assignments, a midterm and final, and open note quizzes that are basically word for word with the textbook. Quizzes also have 3 attempts and retake up to 100. Easy A imo
TAKE HIS CLASS.. He was very responsive and active for it to be an online class. He was very helpful when I needed help and understanding. He was not a hard grader at all. His work was very knowledgeable and not a waste of time.
Professor Kofie's SOC200 class was engaging and manageable. The lectures were informative, and he provided helpful feedback. With Unstuck AI and the textbook, I was able to stay on top of the work and earn a solid grade.
If you're going to take this class, take it online. In person is SOOOOOO boring. toughest grader I have had so far in my 3 semsters at NOVA. If you don't use his crazy complicated old english language to answer his short answer questions, he takes away most of your points which is wild. TAKE IT ONLINE!!!
Professor Kofie is great, very understanding and explains work in an easily digestible way. Will work with you if you're confused or a bit behind!
Nelson is a good teacher and cares about how the students achieve their goals in his class, but his wacky personality gets in the way of a lot of the learning and note-taking. He sways off topic regularly and his English is very broken. His grading is by far his worst quality though.
I don't know how he gets such a high rating. He is not respectful when answering questions from students at all. He will take points off your paper or discussion just because the language you use doesn't seem right to him. There is no study guide for the exam. This is my last semester, he is the toughest grader I have had at NOVA.
This was a completely online course so my only communication with him would've been online communication, but he never once answered me. He takes off points when he doesn't like your phrasing. There were so many assignments and I would've fallen behind if I didn't work ahead at the start. Only take this class if you have lots of time to work on it.
Mr. Kofie was a decent online instructor who does leave comments on assignments, although his class is very assignment heavy and one bad grade on a test can bring your grade down a lot. His class requires a lot of reading from the textbook, but overall can be done if you take a lot of time to focus on completing each assignment to his liking.
Professor Kofie is one of the best at NOVA. He's funny and makes an effort to engage with every student, even those who aren't eager to participate. Unlike other professors, he's understanding while still offering helpful advice, like when I "boxed myself in," best thing a Prof. has said to me. I would love to take more of his classes.
Professor Kofie is such an understanding and caring professor. I would 1000% recommend his class to everyone. He's a fair grader and responds very quickly and is understanding when you miss assignments, he's often very considerate when giving extensions. He's honestly such a good educator.
So kind, I had a situation happen and to be fair I communicated last second. He was understanding and allowed me to redo the missing assignment. This is a great class and the lectures are interesting.
Professor Kofie is one of the most supportive instructors I've had. His feedback really helped improve my writing, and he gave clear guidance on every assignment. He also let me submit a late project when I had tech issues and work stress. He's understanding and fair. The class was interesting, and I learned a lot. Highly recommend!
He grades harshly. I took his class and got an F, then a couple months later retook it with another teacher and got an A. Definitly choose another teacher.
The professor was extremely rude and unprofessional. I emailed him about IT fixing my LockDown Browser, and I couldn't do the verification (this was week 1 of the class). He then posted an announcement aimed at me. When I messaged him about it, he replied, “I'll be sure to block out your name next time.” Safe to say I dropped the class.
Professor Kofie is one of the most supportive and engaging instructors I've had. He gives clear instructions, responds quickly to questions, and wants students to succeed. The coursework is manageable if you stay on top of it. I appreciate how organized the modules are and how feedback is always constructive. Highly recommend!
Professor Kofie is supportive and understanding. The coursework was balanced and engaging. The instructions explained things clearly and was encouraging. I really appreciated his teaching style and would definitely recommend his class to other students.
Professor Kofie was a great instructor. The class had real-world applications and encouraged critical thinking without pushing opinions. There feedback was helpful, and the course promoted introspection and a sociological view of the world. My only issue was the strict no-late-work policy, Canvas closes submissions, so not even a minute late is ok.
I think the professor is a good person and funny, but he would go on various tangents that were not exactly on subject. Attendance is MANDATORY whether he says this or not. The quizzes will be full of questions about random remarks during class, so you will need to take VERY detailed notes. Feedback was very subjective as well and often unhelpful.
Professor Nelson was an amazing professor that was incredibly accommodating and understanding. I would definitely push and advise to take his SOC 200 class.
He is very serious Professor. he has high expectations that leads me to work more on my assignments and exams. I defiantly recommended him to other students.
Professor Kofie was a really engaging professor with in depth knowledge, lectures that I found fun listening to, and interesting topics to teach to us. I wish I had more time in the semester to learn from him, will take the next class available!
Awesome class! Would take more of his classes, very fair and knowledgeable.
Professor Kofies passion for sociology is contagious in the class genuinely. He gives very entertaining and informative lectures. Also, Professor Kofie wants students to succeed. If you show you care about the class and communicate with him, you should have no issue being successful.
This was a seven-week course that was online, so that heavily affected my experience. He was a little bit tough on grading, & his lectures were long, but he was very knowledgeable and made his course requirements very clear. He also was consistently on-top of grading assignments and providing feedback. For a 15-week class, go for it & take him!
Professor Nelson is incredibly understanding, helpful, and supportive. If I have the opportunity in the future, I will definitely take another class with him and highly recommend him to other students.
Professor Nelson is extremely supportive, clear, approachable, and encouraging. If I have the opportunity to take another class with him, I definitely will, and I will also highly recommend him to other students
He would never reply to questions asked and if i emailed him he would tell me to not email him and only ask in canvas which he never replied to, and i ended up getting a 0 for that assignment
