One of the other science instructors actually sat in on her class for an evaluation and left half way threw because he couldn't follow her. too choppy and disorganized. Her lecture style is choppy and she speaks rapidly, but she tries to allow you to catch up in your notes and will answer quetions. She could be more supportive and expansive in her answers when you ask for help. She is pretty cut and dried, to the point. She clearly has test questions to separate the A's from everyone else so study the text too.

Exams are based on lectures. If you know the material well you'll do good. If you dont study well, you'll get caught up with her exam options that are sometimes hard. The grader is really strict and marks off .25 points for tiny stuff. You can get an A. I study 3-5 hrs a day. Currently have an A but haven't taken the final yet. Love the prof tho!

Professor Hewette is really sweet and caring. Her exams are easy. I would study 1-2 days before the exam and would only miss 2 or 3 questions on the exam. You really just have to study hard, but the material is not that difficult to understand. The lab work is easy as well, but the grader is tough and will mark you for the littlest things.

Professor Hewette is great! She makes the expectations clear and although she's very particular about the way you do your labs its definitely manageable. Writing everything she says during lecture is key to scoring well on her exams, be careful with the answer choices! But as long as you put in time/effort you should be able to get a good grade.

Very clear semester outline. Weekly content in one module, always on time, grades were also very quick to get back to. The online labs were a little weird and require a bit of help (especially with an older PC), but were often informative. The final project was fun and a nice ending to the course. Highly recommend.

This class was really manageable considering it is an online science course. The labs got a little tricky at times but overall, it was pretty easy. The workload is doable and I would definitely take her again for microbiology.

Professor Hewette is great! I don't have enough great things to say about Professor Hewette! She is down-to-earth, soft-spoken, caring, and really friendly if you need to ask questions! There are no dumb or stupid questions in this class, at all. She is really the best of the best in Medical Microbiology! If you can take her, take her NOT Mr.Bender

The professor is great, and she made biology seem easy and fun. I took her class for the summer, which is four weeks long. Before submitting the answers, she makes us interact with the class through discussion to gain knowledge from other students. Quizzes are around five questions per chapter and are timed (10 min).

Prof. Hewette is a fairly simple professor. This class is pretty easy as long as you keep up with your work! I took this class for the summer. There are 15 sections in the module, 2 quizzes per section (usually) and 1 lab or writing assignment, and 1-2 lectures. The final project is also SUPER easy.

Exams are not based off lectures, you need too read the textbook that have long chapters. Study guides arent based off the exams, she doesn't tell you exactly whats on it. Exams are multiple choice that look like this: A. Answer B. Answer C. Answer D. A & B E. C & B F. None of the above Exams are 65% of your grade, the rest is 35%

Professor Hewette makes sure that you work for the grade that you want. Her lecture exams are difficult and can make you second guess yourself. The lecture exams are based on the textbook and lectures, and what she says in her lectures is most likely on the exams.

Professor Hewette is very caring. Office hours are helpful and will help you when needed. Just be prepared to know that 60% of the grade are exams and the rest are 40%. Don't just study the powerpoints and use the study guide actually note down everything she says too. It will be on the test.

She is not a great teacher. she over simplifies her lectures and expects you to know the scientific terms for exams. PowerPoint just has a bunch of images with little notes. extra credit presentation only worth two points, which in my opinion is not enough.

2 Lab exams worth 100pts. Get more than 3 questions wrong and you have a B. You have to calculate your grade, it won't be done on canvas. She docked me points on an assignment and then wrote it on the roster so everyone could see I lost points, I had 100% in physio I know how to study, I finished her class with an 88%. Pick anyone else, anyone.

I took a summer 6 wk hybrid class with Bender and Hewett. Hewett's lectures were clear. The course required hard work i studied long hours and her exams were based on her lectures I didnt read textbook, just for labs. Her study guides focused on key concepts, and she was a kind professor. also lab particle and lab quizzes.

Lectures were very organized and straight to the point as to what would be on the exam without making the videos hours long. Very sweet and kind professor but don't doubt how hard she will test you on your knowledge when it comes to exams. This professor was just as good as Bender though I'll say Hewette's lectures are more organized.

honestly horrible professor. will talk about stuff during lecture and expect you to remember everything that comes out of her mouth on the exams, then hit you with answer options like "a, b and answer e" doesnt help during labs (literally sits there and watches u do all the work and gets frustruated when you ask for help multiple times. dont take.

She expects u to know stuff from the book on day one as if youve took previous classes about microbiology. acts as one of those teachers that are the "gate keepers" into the degree or program youre trying to get into, and takes pride in her students failure/ struggle, and will sit back in lab and watch you struggle. take anyone else, dont hurt gpa

Lecture (5 tests, 13% each) and lab (2 exams + assignments, 35% total). Each lecture test covers ~3 hours of lecture material. Test heavy, but if you don't procrastinate, all answers are in lecture videos or covered in study guide. Lab was super fun. Makeup lab + extra credit offered. Don't stress about the bad reviews. Her > Bender. Take her!

From all my science classes she was the one that enjoyed the most! If you want to get a A all you have to do is focus on the study guide for lecture. If the study guide was completed and well understood the exam won't be as difficult. Focus on what she says the exams are based on everything she talks about. Lecture exam weight more than lab exams.
