Lectures are entertaining. This first year course is less about learning history and more about learning how to write about history. His focus is definitely making you a better essay writer and teaching you how to approach historical analysis. Definitely an approachable prof with lots of office hours.

He was an interesting professor who took an approach to history that allowed me to question the process of recording history. He used examples that expanded my knowledge beyond the usual figures discussed in 16th-20th century Europe. His lectures were funny and informative. Fantastic professor - fascinating subject material taught through very unique lenses by way of insightful and well-delivered lectures. The lectures themselves were hardly necessary. They contained little useful detail, as each important or relevant point was interspersed by anecdotes, jokes, and useless chatter. The majority of the learning for this course can be found in the readings, and showing up to class is merely a formality to turn in papers and take quizzes.

Interesting course, but the prof's way of teaching historiography is left to be desired. He is very vague in his assignment criteria, very tough grader and provides minimal and vague feedback. I understand that historiography is hard to learn, but I feel like there would be a better way to teach it than failing students on their first essay.

He will make you learn the Chicago manual of style, if you haven't already I highly suggest you memorize. Go to class and do the quizzes. Thé lectures will help you understand. He'll be more willing to help you out if you make an effort in his class. If your the type of person that keeps going and push threw you'll probably do good in this class.

Lectures are engaging, entertaining, and funny. Expectations for essays are mostly straightforward, and the quizzes are easy. His marking is tough but fair, the papers are quite difficult, and the material requires a significant learning curve. Feedback can be vague, but if you meet 1on1 he'll clear it up. This course is demanding, but rewarding.

While HIS2100 with Professor Leddy was challenging, his lectures were fascinating and impassioned, and he encourages all students to excel. Be careful before taking this course because he would occasionally go on long rants that may not be related to the content, and each lecture has a quiz that is easy if you attend class and read diligently.

Was very clear and direct in teaching historiography. Got a sense of humour and class was consistently a fun environment to be in. Soooooooooooooooooooo much reading, but it was worth it for the final exam. Attendance is not mandatory, but there is a short quiz (pass/fail) in every single class, all of which are collectively worth 20% of the grade.

People hate on this guy so much for no reason. He literally spells everything out for you, if you pay attention. New concepts that are hard to understand at first but when it clicks you will understand what Neven is asking of you. Do the readings and show up for the quizzes and you will pass the class.

Neven's reputation is WAY worse than he deserves. This class isn't easy, but if you follow instructions and attend class, you'll be fine. He's available if you're having issues and is very good one on one. I'm usually too nervous to talk to profs, but not with him. Reading heavy, quiz at the start of each class. Don't be me and miss a lot!
