this guy goes off topic all the time and no one seemed to understand what he was talking about. it not more than half the class failed his tests and quizzes. most of the class ended up dropping. do not take this guy!

He was a god teacher and made us understand the importance of understanding. i enjoyed his class and he was funny as well i belive he is one of the best math teacher i have had
Explains thoroughly and clearly and has a great attitude. He emphasizes the importance of the reasoning behind formulas and rules.
great teacher! doesnt care if you get the wrong answer as long as the work is pretty much correct he will give you credit. takes time to explain things throughly
He is the best Math Teacher I ever had. I never saw math in a good way until I took his class. He actually took out some of his time to help understand problems that I had difficulties in...and I rate him the best teacher I ever had. :)
This teacher was really bad. Gave questions to answer & never went over them! Would not tell you the answers because he said that it would confuse you? He rather have you get the wrong answer and not know what the right answer is. Goes off topic & he goes TOO slow for all the students who don't get it which is unfair for everyone else.
Best math teacher ever. I dropped math 45 twice before this class. tons of opportunities to increase your grade. grades on effort and not the right or wrong answer. perfect for someone who is horrible at math.
Great teacher, probably the best math teacher that i have had in years. Can go slow sometimes but he explains things exremly well! Currently still taking it, give an average or 10 quizes but useas only top 8 of them. I highly recommend him.
this teacher is not healpful at all. he rather not explain to you the context and make you think about it on your own.i DO NOT RECOMEND HIS CLASS AT ALL unless you have taken it over 4 times and you know what to do!!!
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! Do not take 111 with him unless you're really good in math. Assignments are very difficult, and you must learn all material on your own. He never tells you the correct answer. He wants you to 'think' about the correct answer. Don't take him! Take Ms. Barry!
Sometimes hetested uson things that weren'tdiscussed inclass, saidto study certain math problems forquizand then we weren't testedon, final was wayoff whathe told usto study, gives lotsof homework, youhave to write3 math papers, leads u to believe youare doing well, I don't recommend him,Melanie Branca is worse!U will do well if youhave takenhim before.
his test are HARD, he'll give stuff we never covered because he wants us to think.. he let people go past the limit on attendance, he leads you to believe your doing well.. he's nice, but not a good teacher.
don't take him if your not good in math because he'll give you stuff on test that he NEVER taught because he wants you to think. this teacher is confusing.. but he does respect his students
Professor Quan's class was pretty easy, it's true his accent and style of teaching (sorta Socratic-like) can be confusing for students that want everything to be done for them. However, he was very direct and helped me develop an intuition for mathematics that has served me well.
he is a good teacher but he talks a lot and makes me feel sleepy, he really tries to help you a lot, -but Mr. Quan, please don't talk that much-
I personally think the guy is unfair and doesn't respect the student.
personally, i thought he was a good teacher and he really tried to help, but he talked WAYYYYYY to much . i thought it was easy, but then again, i discovered after that i didnt even need to take the class, it was to low a level .
I took his class durig the summer e goes faster than the rest of the teachers. He's helpful and attendance is a must.He is very repetitive and talks way too much which I hated.Tests are very different and harder from the practice tests, in the tests he includes stuff that he didnt cover in class.
bad math teacher. he will spend 45 mins of the class, teaching you HOW NOT to do a math problem. does way to many words problems. and gives a lot of homework, but tends to extend the date. lots of quizs, and he is very all about the school rules. TALKS WAYYYY TO MUCH
got a B in the class. hardly studied, it's best if you remember everything from back in high school. Its like a review. Easy. Had an A, but ended up with a B because I lagged on the final.
great teacher...gives many quizes and only grades your best five... class work is worth like 50% of the grade easy points...gives a lot of homework but its real easy
For Math45 and 60, he uses an online textbook and homework is done through MathXL, an internet learning tool, making an easy and accessible class. If you bother showing up to class and complete all the classwork and homework, you will do well. He is an extremely good teacher and knows much about Math and how to teach it effectively. I recommend him
Great techer for teachers!! I enjoy going to class and learning from someone who has actually been there!
He taught Math 112 in spring of 2011, wonderful teacher who is passionate about teaching & how he interacts with children. He has a harsh Asian accent. He gives you these handouts & you have to buy this video book ($25), you'll use it a lot. But it's helpful. He doesnt like taking attendance, but he has to. Participation is required.
I really did the best I could in this class, however it was difficult to pay attention. he lectures for such a long time.
he's a great teacher!:)
TAKES ATTENDANCE, DONT BUY THE BOOK HE USES MATHXL. HARD TO LEARN MATH WITH HIS ACCENT. I PASSED THE CLASS BUT I WOULDNT TAKE HIM AGAIN.
Pass but this man cannot teach but only instruct. The man is not very clear and usually gets upset when he is questioned twice. Quizzes and Tests are very challenging, be ready to solve alot of "word problems", it's his specialty. Many handouts and homework at the same time. Will not take him in the future.
Class is very complicated, sounds easy but it i not, not to mention Quan who is not a helpful teacher. He will never give yoi the answer to a question. Tests and quizzes are hard and he gives little time to finish.Take at your risk!
Mr. Quan is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He actually makes you think about the concept rather than just showing you how each problem is done. He is extremely helpful, patient, and encouraging. He also gives you credit for trying even if you got the answer wrong.
Professor Quan is one of the best math teachers. He not only teaches you the math, but he also teaches you why things are done certain ways. He believes in the quality of work and not quantity. So he'll take more time to explain questions that the class doesn't understand. He's pretty funny and you can tell that he loves math. Which is important.
This was my first math class in ten years, so I was very nervous. Professor Quan does have lengthy explanations on math problems but I found them helpful. He doesn't use a book only Math XL. There is a lot of homework in his class but stay on top of it and you'll pass. He also drops your lowest test score.
This teacher is confusing. Gives you an assigment in class and let you work by yourself or group and when you ask help he just answers back with a question. I hvae taken several math classes and this one is the worst. Try your best and cross fingers to pass the class
Very confusing instructor. Gets irritated easily and has no problem being rude to a student. Talks too much on topics not related to math ( his life stories). Will never take a class with him again.
Great teacher. Hard but just do Your work participate and study and you will do just fine.
Professor Quan is a great instructor. The material is more difficult than it may seem, but he expertly explains concepts from a variety of perspectives. Pay close attention and you should have no trouble getting an A. As this class is for teachers, he also gives valuable insight regarding what to expect in the education profession. Take him!!
I I took Math 60 with him my first year. He really was a great instructor and he always had a positive attitude which is a plus because he wants everyone to understand the material. Ignore the low scores or negative comments about him because he does care and he does take the time to help you.
One of the few best math teachers. His style of teaching allows students to understand the material thoroughly rather than memorization, which is very important in math. I'm an engineering major, so math comes natural. However, I know when a professor can teach. And Mr. Quan is outstanding. I highly recommend him. I just wish he taught calculus.
hard class..
He truly cares about the students and wants you to learn the material. I don't just want answers, I want to know how to get the answer and he takes the time to explain the lesson. He offers tutoring before class. He's a great professor. Math can be challenging and this shouldn't be confused when rating the professor. Study and take notes!
All i can say he is a horrible professor! if you have trouble in math do not take him he gives every week quizzes which are hard as the same as his tests
I was a student of Professor Quan's in math 110 and 111. My opinion he is the best teacher I've had including my time at SDSU. He is more than fair and really the epitome of what a college professor should be in my opinion. His examples are second to none, I constantly find myself reminded of his advice on how to solve and approach problems.
The class is hard if you did not had good teachers in Elementary School (which is my case) He try to prepare future teacher to be better, but most of the times he takes too long to explain a problem that he confuses people You get a little of extra-credit, and he is a nice person; but not a great teacher He has a lot of office hours HARD CLASS!!!
Quan is an amazing professor. He is passionate about teaching students the right way to do math, and the correct way to teach it. This class is designed to prepare elementary school teachers, so he's very analytical and specific but he goes in depth so nothing is a surprise. He has a lot of homework and if you're a minute late, he marks you tardy.
If you are not good at math and need "extra time" to understand the material, this is not the class for you. He goes through the chapters like you are in a higher level of math. If you need extra help on the chapters, he insist you go see a tutor. You dont need a book but you do need MathXL.
Throughout my college education I've never had a profesor as hard as him. He is a great professor and wants to make sure his students become great teachers like him. However his class was very difficult for most of the students that were in his class. (except kevin). Be prepared to work and make sure you don't miss any assignments.
IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT MATH THIS IS NOT THE TEACHER TO TAKE! I took his class for fall of 2015. He believes in quality over quantity but the truth is, when going over examples he does the easy ones and you have to teach yourself the more difficult material. When one of my classmates was confused in his lecture and asked for help he said Like that.
He gives you a handbook & tells you to read it in class. At the beginning of semester he told us to get in groups but not now. No one understands the subject. Now he teaches but it is hard to understand him. You can write anything on the homework & he gives you full point. He is not a good teacher. Do not take Math 57. It is hard & confusing.
Horrible Class. He is not a good teacher. People are in tears. Do not take this guy for any class. Very hard & confusing.
He is a awful teacher. Do not take his class. Do not take Math 57. This course is good for math major and not mine. He is not sure of what he is saying & does not like questions.
Hardest class I've taken. He's the only one who teaches 110 at SWC. 110 is a different type of math so you need to put in extra hours at home and go to office hours if you don't understand. He explains the easy problems and expects you to teach yourself the hard ones. This is a difficult class but he wants us to understand math not justmemorize it.
Do not take this man. He ask you to learn it yourself. I am not sure why he chose this profession if he does not like to teach. He makes every thing harder than is. I use google all the time or my book. I am pulling a c because I want to graduate and get out of here soon. Don't take this guy.
Do not take this dude:-( He does not know how to teach. worst class ever. Don't take Math 57.
He does not do anything and you don't have to either. He promised all of us passing grade & he gave it to us. I did not do much and was absent a lot but still passed. I think he will pass everyone. Take him and you will pass.
I think he is a great professor! Learned more from him than another math teacher in my life (I'm not young). He follows the rules. Has high expectations, but willing to help. The class is not "easy". If you are having a hard time and reach out he will help you.
If you really want to learn the material and become successful for future calculus classes, Professor Quan is recommended. Meet him halfway & he will do the same, you will be on his good side if you show that you are determined to learn.
worst teacher. Do not take this guy. He is a male chauvinist and loves to talk about himself and how good he is. He is very rude and not a good teacher. Take someone else. I study on my own and put my head down but he is not good at all.
His class is a nightmare! He is the worst teacher I ever had. Do not take this man. You will be sorry. He treats us like elementary school kids. He is rude and full of himself. He has a huge chip on his shoulders. Very bad. Bunch of us want go and complain about him. He is a waste of semester. I learn by googeling the material and not from this guy
He is the worst. He is rude and does not explain anything clearly. Do not take him.
He is bad. His class is the worst. You cannot ask question and if you do he will be sarcastic. He spends a lot of time complimenting himself. He is terrible teacher himself and is trying to teach us to be a good teacher. Do not take him.
his class structure is good but the way it can be used is pretty "ehh". Goes too fast SOMETIMES. there are professors how are a chapter in their classes behind than him. the grading scale is pretty.... bad: 10% Homework 10% Quizes 60% on Test!? 20% on the Finals Might as well skip all homework because the test is what matters in class sometimes.
He is terrible. He has a big chip on his shoulder. Does not teach and does not answer any question without sarcasm. He comes to collect his money and does not care. He is a hard grader. He loves to talk about how good he is. Take a good teacher and not him. He is waste of time.
WORST TEACHER EVER! I have never had a teacher as bad as Professor Quan. This class is hard to begin with, but he makes it a lot worse of a class. He expects you to learn everything on your own. Not only that but you have a lot of homework, tests, and quizzes. I am telling you, do not take him!!!
treats you like a child, acts like he is the master of math making you feel down. the homework does not prepare you for the tests. Take this course at another college.
Professor Quan is the worst teacher I have ever had at SWC. He is a tough grader & I knew I wasnt going to pass his class, so I asked him what I can do to improve my grade & he said do better on the tests/quizzes! He is also very cocky & full of himself, & also thinks he is the best teacher in the whole world (which is totally the opposite).
He is a horrible professor. He believes he is the best teacher in the whole world, which is not true & gets very annoying. He also wants all his students to learn the material on your own. His tests & quizzes are very difficult to understand & he is very materialistic about what you write as your answer. Save time & take another teacher!!
Honestly I had to enroll in this class because it was the only time slot available in my schedule and on the first day I read his reviews so I wanted to transfer into someone elses class but I couldnt so I stuck it out. He actually teaches good. Willing to help whenever and tests are worksheet based. Lookover worksheets and practice before tests.
Do not take his class, you will regret it. Quran is very cocky & full of himself. Thinks hes the best professor youll ever have, which is not true. He also likes to talk himself up & seems to like putting us future teachers down. He expects you to learn everything on your own, which is not helpful when your struggling in the class.
Math 110 was the best and most challenging math class I have ever taken and that's including all the math classes I have taken in my undergrad. Professor Quan is a very good teacher, it's the subject matter that is hard to wrap your head around. If you want to be a good teacher, take this class. The knowledge you will learn here is invaluable!!!!
I was scared to take his class because of all the horrible feedback on this site but hes a great professor. Looks out for his students, always. He's not cocky, hes excited to show you how stats connects to the real world. Attendance does matter, must be on time that's his thing. Just take his class and get to know his style, you'll be okay. 10/10
I'm not sure why Professor Quan has received bad reviews because he is an amazing teacher! He really cares about you and does everything possible for you to understand the material. I honestly hate math but Professor Quan made me appreciate it and would guide me through the questions I had. 100% would recommend
Quan is a rude and a crass person in class. He has a chip on his shoulders, has power trips and loves to put people down. It is so not funny or cute to watch him day after day laugh at other people's expense. He makes rude remarks about other teachers too. So unprofessional. Be aware of him. He has ego trips. Don't take him. A very bad teacher!
It breaks my heart to see bad reviews about him. He is honestly one of the best teachers I've had. He takes the time to explain everything. He's funny and caring. Statistics class was not easy but he made sure to explain everything and make himself accessible if anyone was struggling. 10/10
Hes a wonderful teacher. Zero complaints. I took math 119 with him and hes great! Not sure why he has bad reviews but 10/10 recommend. Wonderful guy and class.
I took him this semester for MATH-115 this fall semester. Professor Quan is genuinely a great professor and he cares. Do not hesitate to ask questions because hes more than willing to go into depth. Hes also very understanding with turning in assignments! He provides the lectures online if you cant attend as well. I highly recommend.
dont skip class, you will get lost. its a hard class but he explains very well. he cares a lot!
Professor Quan is an approachable professor who really cares about your education. Even though there was a lot of lectures from him, he allows you to ask questions without feeling scared to ask them. There is a time in class where he only takes questions which is very helpful since he will guide you through step by step on how to find an answer.
When i first read reviews about this professor, I was beyond worried since I suck at math and I just wanted to try and get through without failing. But after I took 2 courses with him, I question whether or not I was being instructed by the same mean and lazy professor I read in reviews. He was very patient with me, despite me sucking at math.
He uses the OpenStax textbook which does not go into very much detail when explaining the concepts. Prepare to watch plenty of Youtube videos. And homework and practice questions do not have the same format as Exam questions. Meaning you can ace homework but fail exams. Fyi, he is not a bad teacher but please take IN CLASS and not online.
Amazing professor, be ready to put 100% of your attention in class or else you will get loose, answered all questions, he did leave homework but with plenty of previous time to do it, tutoring was offered, he gave many extra credit activities, the exams were easy and they were similar to the worksheets so answer them completely
I got a D because I did not put in the work. He is really knowledgeable; he knows what he is talking about. Leaves weekly quiz and homework assignments on MyOpenMath. Extra credit assignments and extra credit questions on exams, how much extra credit you get depends on how detailed you are. Easy A for sure if you work and do all the quizzes and hw.
Professor Quan is excellent; take his class!
Personally I believe professor Quan did a great job teaching this course, he really breaks down the work in lectures. As well as provides a digital textbook. I will say it is easy to fall behind if you do not put in the effort. He also gives opportunities for extra credit various times. If I could take him for all my math classes I would.
Amazing Professor. He knows how to explain things very well and makes sure you understand. I would take him again if I could.
He is a good teacher and cares about his students learning. His tests are difficult but if you know what you are doing and put in the effort then it's manageable. I got a C because I was working 12 hours a day and I am a head of household. There are many extra credits that I think is enough to boost a whole grade level.
Nongraded worksheets every class that closely resemble exam material. Appreciates effort above all, lots of extra credit opportunities are available. Graded hw through myopenmath. Regular attendance is crucial due to the fast pace of the class & the teacher encourages participation and questions. Dislikes lateness. Amazing and funny teacher.
I would not take him again due to the fact that he won't personally help you, I asked for help and the response I got was to go to tutoring. His lectures go by really fast and the exams are difficult, he dislikes being late and attendance is mandatory.
Probably one of the best math teachers I've had so far. His explanations make the chapters simple. As long as you stay consistent with the homework and quizzes given through Canvas, as well as attentively listening and going to his class, you will pass. Although he isn't accessible outside of class, there are videos of lesson reviews on Canvas.
took his online class during the summer. various opportunities for extra credit. A LOT of homework, quizzes every week and tests every other week. always willing to help, and is very sweet. class was stressful tbh. he provides videos where he works on math problems using the calculator which are really useful
One of my favorite professors I've ever had! He made me genuinely interested in statistics.
Math is no easy topic, yes it will be long and heavy, but he's very passionate. He will help you and there's a class tutor available IN class. Comes off as strict but is honestly a sweetheart. Skip class and it'll be hard to keep up, don't be afraid to get extra tutor help out of class. Ana really helps :)
