He's okay....no notes for tests. He always has stuff to do...it's never ending.
Mr. Tran grades fairly and gives extra credit, but his biggest flaw is his lack of preparation. He comes to class and intends to solve math problems, but makes frequent arithmetic/algebraic mistakes and is sometimes simply unable to solve the problem.
Great teacher, tests are easy and short. Gives lots of extra credit. Gets mad when there's noise. The guy is great with passing math.
He is the one of easiest math teachers I have had. He gives plenty of extra credit. A little bit of work is necessary. There are Plenty of tests.
Great teacher. Positive attitude/funny. So much extra credit that I only needed 28% of the final to guarantee an A. More homework than some. Organized and clear presentation.
He might not be that well prepared but he is super nice and if you put in the effort and do all the homework (there's alot)you can ace the class it just takes effort
for starters he doesn't understand how to answer questions, and barely helps you with the material. the material on the test is not what he goes over in class. there is alot of extra credit though, but still please don't waste your time and money.
Man...where do I start, well...he doesn't take the time to help you, doesn't answer questions very well, hard to understand, and also he is a bit of an odd character. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
a very easy class, little homework, he gives you plenty of time to do it, enough extra credit that lets you score poorly on tests and still maintain a decent grade, and he doesn'r care if you stay in class the whole period. This class is an easy A for those seeking one.
His extra credit system alows for a self check on yourself and also for a form of one-on-one help. Grades on curve for tests. He will try to help you undesrtand but not everyone cares enough to really aply themselves. Prepares the class (the ones who stay for whole class time) well for the exams.

tran makes you feel stupid when you ask questions, and when he doesnt, he answers something tottally different thank what u asked. its so hard that toward the end you just give up. he drops you if you miss 2 classes abd you wont even know it. hes smart, but not a good teacher.
An exceptional grade can be easily obtained as long as the student puts in some effort. Plenty of extra credit is presented throughout the course and the material isn't very difficult to understand. He tells you exactly what is on the chapter tests, how could you go wrong?
precise and clear.
he can be hard to understand but he gives you ALOT of extra credit and grades on a curve :) its pretty easy to get a good grade in his class!
Mr. Tran is a good teacher. He teaches in a straighforward manner that all the students can understand. The tests are do-able as long as you pay attention in class and do the hw. Gives extra credit. Just put some time and effort into the class and u'll do fine.
Mr. Tran knows what he is doing. He is a great teacher and offers tons of extra credit to help boost your grade. He also allows students to drop their lowest test score at the end of the semester. He explains really well and is a very fair grader. If you struggle in Math, I strongly recommend him.
He has amazing ability to write on chalkboard with both either hand. His english is pretty good but far from perfect. I got an A in his class. He requires homework to be turned in for a grade. The tests aren't that hard.
He doesn't make his methods clear, he always makes mistakes and doesn't realize it, accent makes him hard to understand, and he gets frustereated really easily with students who ask lots of questions. Not the teacher for people who learn a little slower.
I hate math with a passion, yet somehow i actually understood what he was teaching and did well on the tests. he is nice, funny, and helpful.if you are nervous about how you will do, don't be, you will do fine.
I am clueless and still got a B; Guess tha makes him good. bow wow yeepee ya yeepee ya bow wow
He is a very good person, but I don't think he is "reaching" most of the class. He DOES give 1 or two extra-credit assignments per week. Though, sometimes students must correct numbers for him on chalkboard equations (confusing to people who have been away from math for a while).
Nice guy, explains the material well. However if you have a question he is not very good at leading you in the right direction or explaining it properly. Gives lots of extra credit! Gives you hints as to what kind of problems will be on each test. Just make sure you know how to do the problems on the tests and you'll be fine!
This dude is really funny. He doesnt explain his math very good but he does give lots of extra credit. Someone always comes into our class and yells then leaves. He has no control over the classroom but he is very smart when it comes to math. In this class you will hardly have homework but lots of extra credit.
I honestly thought that this class was a waste of time because all he made us do was extra credit every day and he never bothered to explain what the heck we were doing. He makes you take like six test and he says that you can be absent ten times and it doesnt matter but when it comes to giving you a grade he takes that into consideration.
If you put the slightest effort in he'll give you an A. He virtually gives you the answers to the test before hand to memorize. Seems to have trouble with the subject matter. Classes are boring. Reads straight from the book. Show up in class to copy down the program explanations, then bail. The rest isnt worth staying for.
He talks a lot straight out of the book and can be confusing sometimes. For the most part he is a good teacher. He will help you in the lab with the progams you are trying to write. Sometimes he ends up sitting next to you and ends up doing them for you.
I really hate him as a Proffesor. He's difficult to understand, goes way to fast and write's so small on the board. I really don't think he should be teaching and he lacks common sense.
I can't believe there are peole teaching others when they clearly dont know how to explain things or do the problems themself's. I suggest you dont take this class but if you take it at your own risk.
be alert! TONS of extra credit per chapter. about 4/5 tests, curved. one final. doesnt follow the book when providing examples but his ex. are easier to understand than text anyways. not easy class but if you keep on top of it you'll get thru no problem. DO the HW!! & just an observation hes ambidextrious.
not understandable
I was worried about my grade and Professor Tran made me feel much better. Great guy, made a hard subject for me much less stressful.
He was actually pretty good. I tried taking trig with another professor and couldnt pull through. But I got an A in Tran's class. He will go over whatever you need but you need to ask him. He also offers extra credit!!! Notice he uses his left and his right hand to write on the board!!!! :) Genius I tell ya!
do not like him at all

Be sure to purchase a pocket translator if you take his class, you're going to need it. He is not very clear on anything, then has you do extra credit problems that you dont even know how to do. I ended up taking this class at grossmont with a better teacher. It was worth the 45 min. drive.

Dude's a joke! It was over 100* outside, and he had a concentration camp hotbox going in his room. He closed all windows and doors, 'cause it was "too loud" outside, and refused to use the AC. So we were all dripping sweat, and cooking in there. It was so hot, going outside was refreshing. Doesn't speak English, he speaks math and not very well
This guy is not a god teacher at all. Very hard to understand and does not help you at all with any questions. When he checks your extra credit he puts you on blast at his desk in front of the class. When you skip a step on the test you get marked down. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!

Tran's class is not so bad. He made the class easy as possible by curving the tests and he giving a lot of extra credit opportunities. His accent can interfer with his lecturing, but overall he's an alright teacher.
I play a sport and his class is very hard. I asked him how I could just get a D and he never responded to emails or my voicemails and when you ask him a question he'll just wave you off an never answer you... he failed me so now im ineligable.... He's very hard to understand and not very helpful at all.... Dont take the guy he's awful....
He's hard to understand but you can get used to it. He tells you exactly the type of problems that will be on the test, but if you don't show your work exactly as he would do it, you get marked down. He often offers EC, but you have to be able to do long problems quickly. He's also not very good @ anserwing questions.
it took the first class to get used to accent, but very easy to follow on the board...does many sample problems -shows you exactly what will be on test; drops lowest test score and gives numerous in class extra credit opportunities. If you attend class, do the sample problems and review for each test you will easily earn an A
He was a really nice guy but he didn't like to answer questions. It was also hard for me to follow his lectures sometimes. If you can teach yourself math this is a great teacher. He doesn't even care if you show up, but I was at every class, turned in every assignment and got a D.
Once you get used to his accent you can understand him okay. Expect to teach yourself most of the material. He just works through problems in class, doesn't explain much or very clearly. Allows dropping one test score. Gives points for completed homework. I decided to wait until I can get a teacher who actually explains the material well.
He is nice guy. He does many problems before test, so if you study, test will be easy. I didn't study much, so I got B. I didn't go over problems that he gave. I think if I did it, I would get beeter grade. He takes long time to grade tests, but because he takes long time, he gives extra points on the tests.
If you're serious about math, don't take this guy, because you won't know anything if you go to another professor's subsequent class. He is TERRIBLE at explaining, and goes alarmingly fast, all semester. His tests are easy and are generally verbatim of a few sample test problems he works out on the board. Drops one test.
He has a very heavy accent that can make it hard to understand him. You don't use the book too much because he makes his own questions. The tests are simple, he always works out the questions the day before the test. Does not answers many questions. Overall 3 out of 5.
Acts in very mysterious ways. Tells us a test is hard but its easy then tells us its easy then it is really hard. Very hard to tell where you stand in the class because he gives back tests 4 weeks after we take them. Ok teacher, Tells you exactly what he wants you to know with practice tests.
His teaching methods are kind of unorthodox and its pretty hard to follow his lecture because he jumps all over the place. It would be nice if he was a little bit more organized. He does give you practice exams which are extremely helpful which makes up for his lack of teaching prowess. Overall, not a great teacher but good enough.
Mr Tran lacks the skills needed to successfully teach his students. His homework is irrational and confuses more than teaches. Basically, having Tran as a teacher would be the same as reading and doing the work from the book yourself. Only difference is there is no-one to do the grading for you. Poor quality indeed.
3 reasons not to take Tran. 1. Very forgetful. When he teaches, he forgets how to do the problem and relies on student input to help him solve it. 2. Very difficult/Irrational homework. HE CAN'T SOLVE the H/W problems assigned, very less you. 3. NOT A MAN OF HIS WORD! Tells you one thing, then changes it. Not a man to trust. His Grade = D-
Uh these negative comments are half true. He is very deceptive but his practice tests tell you exactly what is going to be on the test. This class is really easy if you go to his class. Skips a lot of steps though going through practice test. Test is very easy compared to the questions in the book. Take him for a good grade but you wont learn.
If you need to knock out prerequisite math classes, like Math 96, I highly recommend Tran. He may not be the most organized or easy to understand instructor, but he explains things well enough at least, and the tests are easy, and he always gives practice tests that reflect everything on the test. He is very laid back and lenient with test makeups.
Professor Tran may be hard to understand sometimes, but he is great in his teachings! He's a funny guy too. He cares about everyone passing the class. I am prior military and he makes me feel very comfortable in his class. Really good professor no in my book no matter what anyone else says.
He is easy to understand. His handwriting is not good but readable. If you ask him to clarify something, he will. His lectures are easy to follow and are somewhat entertaining at times. He assigns "pre-tests" which are just like the tests. If you study these pre-tests thoroughly, come to class, and do the homework, you will earn an easy A.
Prof. Tran is one of the BEST Math teachers in MESA considering there are only a few. He gives a review test that's just like the test and will do them in class so make sure you study them! Gives extra credit on some tests and curves too! But he grades slow. Really helpful teacher, will walk you through a problem, so come to his over hours!Take him
Took spring 2010, calc2, did not teach topics to well he kind off jumps straight into examples and doesn't really give intro to topics which was difficult for me sometime took me time to see what was doing. did give practice exams that were very helpful in studying. wouldn't mind taking again, but wouldn't be 1st choice
Tran skips topics a lot, assigns HW from Schaumm's Outline, and then the HW has nothing to do with the topics tested.Practice tests help most of the time. He emphasizes speed and computation overunderstanding. Not really a very good teacher but not bad either - mediocre. He is really weird and says a lot of bizarre things in class.
Professor Tran makes his class very easy to succeed in. He constantly reviews what we will need to know for tests, and gives us practice tests that are the exact same as the real test but with different numbers. The final is 8 questions and some have parts a through d. This class is very easy compared to any other Math 96 at Mesa.
Knows what he's talking about. Teaches at a high level of math skill,so you better have it. If you show up, pay attention, do the work and follow his instructions you will walk into calc 3 confident and ready to take it on. I didn't get his teaching at first, but he gives you these nuggets of info to stick in your math tool kit that are essential
wow, dont know where all these positive feedbacks came from... is one of those my way or the highway kinda teacher so if your into learning for yourself, expect to fail the tests even with correct answers. on a 14/16 correct test i got a 57% because i didnt use the method he showed us... i used one from the book.
If you do your work, you will do fine. Other wise, don't take, like most of other hard classes
If you do your work and have a brain you will do great in his class.. I took his class for pre-cal buisness while I was struggling to pass my trig class from a horrible teacher. He's a little quick but I felt it made the class go quicker! I ended having a higher grade with this teacher than my trig teacher! Finally a teacher who can teach math!
Easy to get a good grade in. Tests and finals only matters and you can drop any one of them. This class is more for the basics and doesn't really go in depth on the concepts.
spring 2012, mesa, nights. A copy of every test is given at the start of every area, he just changes the numbers. Do the homework. Very helpful. Be respectful, be in class, and he is great, be not respectful and you loose. I wish he choose a different text book, I did not like Schaums outlines not a very helpful book.
Can come across as rude or unhelpful as a result of his Engrish, but otherwise, pretty standard in terms of class.
I was in a trig class with professor Tran a couple of semesters ago. Anyway, he lost my first exam, but promised to find it by the end of the semester. Here is the thing, if professor Tran shows you a method of how to solve a math problem or an equation, you have to stick to his method. That is the easiest way to pass. Don't try anything else.
Great teacher for a boring subject. His grading is only based on 6 tests, one he drops. No homework. No quizzes. His lecture is pretty much going over a sample test to prepare for the test, re-done, then the test is just the sample test with numbers being different. I highly recommend this professor if you need to take math 121/122
I thought he was great! Old school, so keep that in mind and be respectful. Always avail to help people. No hw or quizzes. He tells you what you need to know in advance so if you learn that, it's an easy class. Take things lightly or wait till the last minute and you'll get a C like me.
Easy class, he goes along with book, so if you dont understand the chalk board, then the book is a great resource. No hw, no quizzes, so you must study hard for tests. He provides sample tests.
To be honest Tran is completely useless when it comes to teaching (only because Eng isn't his first language and he writes small, he's very smart. ), but he gives you everything you'll need on the test. There's HW, but you aren't required to do it, do not buy the book if you don't plan to. YouTube = easy A
Mr. Tran's accent may not be easily understood, but his preparation for the tests are crystal clear. He is old school, so be sure to show respect. His style is a slam dunk if you want to take, pass and move on to your next class. I liked him.
Very easy, goes over what is going to be on the tests. After the tests he gives you which problems are going to be on the exam. Goes over reviews on chalk board and leaves it up on chalkboard as you take the tests. I see him helping lots of students even during the tests.
if you dont want to attend class he is your teacher. if you need help learning the subject not a good teacher to pick
Professor Tran certainly is an interesting character. If you want an easy A, I don’t think this is the class for you unless you have a strong math background. He doesn’t assign homework, he doesn’t make you participate in class, and he doesn’t have any take home assignments or projects. Test count for your entire grade.
He does however drop your lowest score, which includes the cumulative final. His hand writing isn’t the best, his personality doesn’t exactly wake you up either; his voice is low and quiet. He spends most of his time doing practice problems that are going to be similar to those on the test, and before each test,
, he gives a complete practice test that shows the many different questions that are going to be the test(fairly accurate). He has multiple office hours. He does have a test curve, but it is based on the highest grade in the class, which kind of sucks because I had this one person in my class who would get near perfect, but an extra
He can write with both hands, instant badass. He makes his own coffee. He has awesome clothing style, he rocks a vest and blazer when it gets cold. Some of his favorite catchphrases are “Anyhow” “You right!” “Ohh.”
He is kind of a lone wolf. For example, a friend and I visited him during his office hour, and since class was right after, we waited outside to walk with him, but he said "don't walk with me, I walk slow!" He avoided us completely; I think he purposely took the longer route
The amount of respect for this man is only rivaled by the amount of knowledge he has granted me on the subject of Trigonometry and life!
Tran, is unorthodox and awesome! He leaves the sample exam on the board while you take the exam excluding the final which is cumulative. He also drops the lowest test score, final included Very soft spoken & writes small so sit up close No homework or extra credit Was on my last leg in Math 96 & he saved me. Would take him again! Stats here I come!
Extremely difficult. He gives you the test at the beginning of each chapter and just changes the numbers on the tests;however, he isn't all that great. His English is hard to understand, he can be intimidating sometimes, and if you don't sit in the front two rows you won't be able to see what he is writing because he has bad handwriting.
He purposely waited til the end of the semester to give me a grade on a test I took late and gave me an F when he said it would be a B. I reported him and he lied to staff members about it. I worked really hard to get a B and because of his lack of professionalism I got a C. Would not recommend.
I stopped asking him questions in class because I knew he wouldn't answer; if he did, it would probably confuse me even more. He grades the tests so hard and is extremely fast during lecture. I am an A student + math tutor, but I still feel frustrated and hopeless whenever I come to his lecture. Don't take him unless you have no choice.
Avoid if possible or be prepared for the race. He keeps track of the time you "should" dedicate to every problem, and that constantly distracts you while taking the test. I never had to worry about running out of time in a math test until now. Furthermore, lectures are very unprepared, sometimes mumbles making in it hard to understand.
He gave us about 7 tests and 1 final. No homework and no points were taken off if you didn't show up to class. I found the class super easy and I actually liked his method of teaching, but many disagreed. Sample tests are very similar to the actual test which enabled me to receive and A on every test, therefore he let me drop the final exam.
If you are a good test taker he is the prof. for you.
He is a great teacher. if you go to class and take notes TAKE HIM! EASY A! Of course you have to put in some effort for it. HE CARES about his students and want them to know. He will ALWAYS answer your questions and if you do not understand something, he will try to explain it until you get it. I LOVE THIS MAN.
He does not use the book, he says you can buy it but he doesn't not give HW. you have to give your self HW. He isn't very clear and doesn't answer questions well, unless your taking any math lower that this one. His tests are somewhat difficult because he doesn't give HW. if you skip class, sleep, or don' show he doesn't care its your grade to him.
I have to say, this has to be the easiest A I ever had. He basically gives a sample exam prior to the exam. He go through the sample exam exercise by exercise and only change the number for the real exam. So you just have to know the sample exam and work on it and you get an A. Otherwise, he is a little bit anti social, don't expect much from him.
I was a little worried when I found out we weren't going to be using a book but his lectures were very detailed and he explained everything thoroughly. He really cares about his students and always answered every question. You don't have homework but you have to practice the problems he gives in class at home in order to prep for tests.
Textbook not required , step by step breakdown of how to do equations in his lectures. No HW. Practice test given at beginning of each chapter. Go home practice it a week before test you'll be OK. Show up & pay attention. Recommend getting personal white board to practice.
Awful.. stay away from this class unless you have already taken CALCULUS . Highly bias. Rude. Does not know the definition of teaching. He expects PERFECTION. he WEEDS PEOPLE OUT DURING THE FIRST THREE WEEKS... HE SPEAKS VERY VERY LOW AND MAKES A LOOOOT OF MISTAKES ON THE BOARD. IF THERE IS A STUDENT IN THE CLASS WHO HAPPENS TO KNOW WHAT IS GOIN
A normal student would GET a decent grade. takes MASSIVE DEDUCTION POINTS FOR MINIMAL ERRORS.. -18,-15,-8 ARBITRARILY.. UPON HIS MOOD OR OWN REASONING. MESA SHOULD INVESTIGATE Y !!HIS CLASSES END UP WITH 12 OF STUDENTS OUT OF 40SH.. DO THE MATH PEOPLE. SEEK BASS OR SEEK BROWN THEY TOUGH BUT DO TEACH!.EXTRA CREDIT YES! HARD! unless you took calc b4
He explains detail, step by step, easy understand. No homework but you have to practice by yourself to get A in his class (easy to get A if you come to class and take note all his teach). He talks less do more in class. I love this Professor.
Terrible. Stands at the board and writes/talks to himself the whole class, you'll spend the whole class just trying to decipher his writing since it's so small. No homework, and tests consist of 5-6 questions which you'll spend 2-3 weeks practicing, so obviously you won't learn much. Easy A if you copy the test questions down and teach yourself.
He doesn't care if you come to class or not, therefore I don't see why he doesn't just make his class online? if you ask question genuinely and say that you really don't get what he's saying, he'll humiliate you in the class and say how come? I had to drop his class for the sake of my GPA.
Wouldn't advise anyone who actually wants to learn to take him. You have to teach yourself. There is no homework and your whole grade is based on 5 exams, which he takes like two weeks to grade. It's been over a week since finals, he still hasn't got the grades back and there were only half a dozen people that took it.
Tran informs his students the 1st day of class that his teaching style may not work for everyone; really evaluate his teaching the 1st week to make sure it works for you. You must take detailed notes from his lectures. No homework but you must go home and practice. He provides practice tests before actual tests. 4 tests total.
Had him for my Math 96 class & he was alright. Your whole grade is based only on exams. There is no homework & no book so you have to come to class if you expect to pass his class. Gives extra credit when he takes long to grade exams. Gives you similar questions for the study guide & writes problems on the board on the day of exam. Calculator heavy
True Gem. He gives guides for tests. If you pass exams, may skip final.
Awesome professor! You do have to learn to do things his way, Hard to fallow at first but review class notes! He has 4 test with optional final. NoHw . There are only 8q on test, in lecture he will go over multiple examples that are EXACTLY like test!He is Great on partial credit as long as you show every step as he taught.
Loved having classes with him. He is tough at the beginning to get rid of the uninterested people and after ir he is great. He is fun. He dominates subject really well. Gives very good explanations.
Tough teacher. Emphasizes speed so you may need to work on that. I am a slow test taker and so I got a D on the first test but I started timing myself and I still pulled an A in the class. No book used. Tests are very similar to in class probs. but a few curveballs. Extra credit assignment before each test. Overall good experience, made me better.
Prof. Tran seems to believe you can lecture math. He doesn't tell you any way to answer problems except his way. No textbook, no homework, if you don't understand he'll explain it once more and after that he'll say it's not his fault you don't understand. Graded solely on tests. Makes lots of mistakes on board. Awful teacher. Awful.
Probably one of the best math teachers I've ever had, he explains everything very clearly and outlines whats gonna be on the test before he gives it, all you need to do is understand how to solve the test outline and you should be on your way to an easy A. Also no homework is a plus
I liked his method and I enjoyed. 4 tests which for each one he gives u the sample questions. Final is optional, no homework, no textbook. What do u want more!!! take his class believe me, u can not learn and pass math easier than this. I'm taking another class with him for next semester.
At first his class seems confusing, because his method is different with other professors. But don't worry After 2-3 class u will be ok. He gives u sample questions for each exam and he teaches you how u should do that. Easy to get good grade just work on those questions for each exam. No homework.
I took Mr. Tran for Math 96 and Math 119, it was an easy A if you study, no homework and you can use calculator in class. He was funny and very helpful, he also give us a review before the test. You can ask him question during exam but of course he won't give you the answer, he will guide you on every step if you're kinda loss during the exam.
No homework, everything is learned in the classroom. The "study guide" is the exact questions from test with different #s. The questions are gone over 2-3 times before the test and then the day before the test you go over ALL OF THEM again. Easy to pass if you take your notes. Great Prof! Learned more than I expected to!
Like his class very much. If u are looking for a math class without any tention or stress take his class. I easily got A
Weird lectures. He'll go off on tangents then let you know all the stuff you took notes on in the past 30 minutes (and didn't understand) aren't going to be on the test so you don't need it. No textbook to follow along with, and no homework to prep you. Doesn't tell you what he is teaching so its impossible to look it up yourself if you need help.
Extremely easy for those who actually know what they're doing. His class is designed to teach you how to master the methods of solving the problem. If you struggled with algebra, then you may need to brush up on that. The class focuses on heavily on that. You're expected to know to do algebra proficiently from your previous learning. Great teacher.
Professor Tran does not believe in giving homework and using textbooks. He gives you a sample test that looks 100% similar to the actual test but is 100 times harder. Throws a lot of curve balls in his test. Easy to pass his class. I don't know how some people fail his class.
Pr. Tran can hardly explain hard concepts due to his poor english skills. His lectures are stepwise and are hard to keep track of. I'm a good student with a 3.8 average and was given an A in calc 1 and received a C in this class. He is also a really hard grader. If your work is not done entirely like his, then points will be coming off.
Shows you how to do a problem maybe twice at most. 7 tests over the semester with about 15 problems each so its pretty simple, but if you miss a portion or don't learn his method for a problem, it reflects on your grade. Lots of calculator work which rocks. Good if math isn't your thing cuz the steps are small
Great teacher, no textbook required. you actually build your textbook as you attend class every week. if you fail, is because you did not pay attention or effort on your behalf. I'm totally suck at math and got a B last semester for math 96. write all class lecture notes and you will be fine. good luck
Just take him.
No homework. No text book. Clear grading criteria.
Currently taking his class. Yes he's a tough grader. But you have to take notes, study, and be on point.
teacher records every lecture which If you bring in a usb stick he will let you download it after. Honestly if you keep practicing the questions from the review he gives out and practice questions he makes up before class you should have no problem passing. He will most likely reuse at least one. 5 tests including final lets you drop any of them.
Tran has a very systemic approach to teaching math. Essentially he works out practice problems that are identical to the problems you will see on the tests. You might not even call this learning--it is parroting. But anyone who is disinterested and bad at math is bound for success in this class. Easy A. Missed 2 tests, aced the tests I did take.
4 tests. 1 final. 1 test can be dropped, including final. Teaches test questions every class. you can take the videos of lecture during office hours, since he does record himself teaching. Just take him.
Honestly if you want an A take this class! Professor record lectures. Youre only graded on tests and 1 of the tests can be dropped including the final. Many people arent used to his teaching though I assure you just trust the method. If you keep practicing the problems he explains youll get an A every time on the tests.
His class said it was a mesa remote but he is not doing lectures on zoom. He has only hand written notes for you to read.
First impressions, I'd say he isn't great at teaching. His method is "here is how you do it, copy the process exactly and check your work or your lose points." No real learning, just repeating. No textbook, no homework. Really easy class. Tests make up 100% of your grade. Take only if you want to pass easily and don't take if you want to not learn.
I am attending Math 119 online, this professor is there to help you get an A. He doesn't do zoom lectures but it doesnt matter because his videos are very well described, and he is very responsive to emails and gives great feedback. You will learn by repetition. No homework is given which is great. I strongly recommend this professor
A very different professor. Has no homework. Your grades are all tests but they're almost exactly like his practice problems. Teaches you shortcuts to problems and is calculator heavy. Not an English native and has an accent but I could understand him. Drops your lowest test grade but it doesn't really matter since his tests aren't hard.
The absolute worst professor I have ever had.
Professor Tran makes his class fairly straightforward. He tells you EXACTLY what you need to know for the exam and is obsessed with his Casio calculator. Just follow study guides and you should be good. Very odd guy but I got an A with some effort, and this is Calc 3. Bland lectures.
I do not understand how he is getting such high reviews. He does not explain concepts and rushes through problems when teaching. Tests are identical to the practice exams and not hard, but if you take this class, be prepared to learn absolutely nothing and watch YouTube videos to teach yourself the material.
Professor Tran is good at Mathematics. However, he is not good at teaching. If you enjoy math and enjoy learning then refrain from taking this class. It will possibly kill your creativity and love for this subject. If you're a self-sustained learned, and don't care about what the professor has to offer then this class is for you.
He does not lecture. No textbook, only his messy lecture notes. Grading criteria is not clear and his exam reviews/lectures notes have a ton of mistakes. You won't learn much in this class. Rude and insensitive.
Makes a lot of mistakes. Rushes through the problems. Does not encourage real learning. His class is basically "Repeat and memorize the steps". He is not that polite either.
The worst teacher I've ever had. He makes mistakes on practically every problem, and when I would ask him questions in class about how to solve a problem, he often wouldn't be able to do it. I was supposed to transfer this fall, and now I have to stay another year because I was failing the course and withdrew. Take Brown, Bernal, or ANYBODY ELSE.
Super easy A if you just follow what he teaches you in class. He records and posts all notes and lectures on canvas as well as the practice tests. Everything he shows you how to do is exactly what will be on the test just with different numbers. Drops lowest test score, so if you're happy with your grade you can skip out on the final.
During class the professor would have errors in his math, then students would have to correct him and every time he would say "Oh my bad, that's why you check your work". If you are strong in Algebra you might be okay but he expects you to know everything prior and there is no review of knowledge. It's either you understand it or you don't.
Please do not take Professor Tran! He will not work with you to improve your grade and his feedback is terrible. In theory, his tests are easy as they replicate the work you do in the class but he is a very tough grader and will mark things as wrong even if you write it just like he did in his notes.
Don't take this class. If you sit in the back you will not be able to hear anything he's saying. His teaching is unclear and you mostly have to copy and attempt to apply it to the test. If you aren't good at taking tests I don't recommend this class. He isn't the worst but its difficult to pass if you aren't good at math.
Ngoc Tran is hands down one of the worst professors I've ever had in my entire life. He is not a personable teacher at all and does not care about his students. He is easily the rudest teacher I've had. He has no respect for students at all and could care less about you. He will mark you down for random reasons on tests as well. Avoid at all costs!
Horrible, simply horrible. Super hard to understand, thick accent and super monotone. Super hard grader, if you do a question right show your worker, but make one little error, the whole question is marked wrong. Doesn't put your grade in Canvas just gives you a slip of paper so you can figure it out yourself. Super late to give back test results.
Can drop exam if you have an A. He doesn't teach, so if you actually want to understand concepts, don't take him. Sit in the front of class bc you can't hear him. If you sit and watch his recorded lecture videos and memorize, it's an easy A. Not personable, he's grumpy and quiet when he speaks. Watch his videos to get an A. Easy A though.
Whole grade is based on 4 quizzes and a final. Please please DO NOT TAKE HIM. The entire lecture is literally watching him do a practice problem with zero explanation or guidance. Lots of mistakes. Never answered email. When asked for help was waved over several times. If I had a Time Machine, this prof wouldn't even exist on my class planner
The picture perfect case of a good guy but not a great teacher. My grade was fully determined only by tests and no homework. Lectures were not terrible however I found myself on more than one occasion having to reteach myself how to work certain lessons. Again good guy but if you are someone like me who struggles with math I would not recommend.
TAKE ONLINE WITH SOMEONE ELSE -If you are hoping for a "slow paced", "in-depth" math class, this is NOT your class. Tran does not have your back. Try not falling asleep in his monotone, regurgitated lectures. He has no idea how to explain anything unless it is buttons on a calculator.
Just to put this in perspective. The first time I took calc 1 with another prof I got a 101% on my first exam. I failed my first exam in this class. This professor does not follow a book, but he should because his lectures consist of him doing examples and then once every hour he will briefly introduce a new topic or theorem. Do not take his class.
No homework, extra credit, 3 exams and final, you get to drop your lowest. A lot of learning by urself.
Get ready to study on your own. his lectures consist of him solving the study guide problems. thats about it. But while he does it its almost like he is trying to set a world record for fastest math problem ever solved. He doesnt stop an explain anything. Horrible teacher, but an easy class. Basically use thomas calculus instead of his lecture.
Honestly the rudest professor I've had in my life. When students ask questions, they're often met with a dismissive rude tone. He does not care about his students passing or learning. As other reviews say, all he does is quickly solve math problems with little to no explanations during his lectures. Be prepared to teach yourself everything.
His lectures r fast paced & he can be hard to understand (I recommend sitting at the front). However, his tests are really similar to his handouts so I found that just looking over his lecture notes after class helped me do well on exams. He gives occasional extra credit which is usually easy. He's a nice guy despite his poor teaching strategies.
Semester outline is very basic 3 Exams and a Final. He does not engage with his students and helps them out. He expects you to know a lot already so your Pre Cal and College Algebra will be tested a lot for this class. however his class is still very do able but expect to teach yourself and I recommend studying with others. I don't recommend him.
Everyone bags on Tran but I LOVED him. He lectures really fast so you have to really listen to understand him. The exams are super straightforward because they're identical to the practice exams he gives out. Your entire grade is based on exams. Also, he's really sassy and it just cracks me up. I think he should be better appreciated. Love him.
Never really liked math or good at it. Professor Tran made me like Statistics and apply it to real life. He's old school, everything on paper and nothing on canvas. Which I liked. He's stern but reasonable. Some ppl say he's rude, he's just very direct and throws in humor here & there. You have to ask questions and he will help.
Grades are based 100% exams, 5 exams administered (no final). He does give generous extra credit (around 10-15% each exam), he can be sometimes hard to understand. The hardest exams are the first and last, first exam summarizes Calc1-2. Exams are very similar to practice one. Make sure to do the problems the way he does
