One of the best math teachers I have come across. She explains everything in a way that even the most math challenged person can understand.
I consider myself "math challenged" and had dropped 840 twice before. Dr.Horner teaches in a way that I was able to grasp on to and even enjoy a bit. Going to class every day is a must. She never checked homework, but not doing it will show on the tests. She's a bit soft spoken, but knowledgeable.
Great Math teacher answers all your questions and you do learn in her class
She is a good teacher though she speaks very soft. You'll understand everything that she teaches u but u hav to listen carefully. take her class she gives out easy quizes.
Soft spoken but is absolutely best mathematics teacher that I have ever had! Very insightful!
Her class is one of the easiest classes in the math department. Her tests are easy because she'll tell you what's going to be on them, and she's very nice to the students.I'm going to take her 110C class.
she speaks very softly but shes so nice. shes the first and only teacher that has ever truly helped me understand math. she makes complicated problmes look so easy. shes by far the best math teacher at city college
i always have a problem hearing what she says, but when she finish lecturing and you ask her a question she would help explain it to you very clearly. Shes very nice and helpfull

She's so cool... BEST math teacher i ever had... I love her teaching style.. easy to understand..she gives time to do the math prob in class so she can help u... she also gives review for tests.. take her if u math isnt ur favor.. but u reli wanna learn
best math teacher!!! take her
She is just awesome!!!! The most helpful and nicest teacher I ever had. As long as you do your hw, you will get A.
she is a great teacher...i took her for math 840 and now i'm taking 860..easy to understand..if you dont understand, you can ask her anytime and she will explain to you. Test are base on the hw. so if you do your hw then you will do good on the test. i recommend everyone to take her! her class gets full really fast and she does not add!
AWESOME TEACHER!!!!!SHE EXPLAINS VERY WELL, EXAMS ARE EASY, SHE IS EASY GOING, SHE MAKES SURE EVERY STUSENTS UNDERSTAND. REALLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I HOPE SHE TEACHES 110B IN FOLLOWING SEMESTER!
She's a super easy teacher. She never checks hw but you have a much bigger chance to get an A if you do it. She's very patient and helpful. She manages timing very well so you learn what you need to as well as fully understand the content. No extra credit is given but the tests are easy enough. She's fair and requires hard work from her students.
she's the best!!
Great teacher, she really helped my understand. she cared so much that if you were stuck on a test should would help you work through it. if she sees you are understanding the material she says you dont need to go to class. she is funny and really wants people to learn.
Very professional. No accent. Answers questions thoroughly. Very polite and humorous when appropriate. I like her style of teaching, very detailed and in a good pace. Definitely recommend 10/10
This prof is one of the best MATH teachers in CCSF... on her 1st day of class. this section was already full but 10 to 20 students want to add because of her... She's good, patient, no accent, really cares about her students.. if only she teaches 860 within 10am to 12pm. I would definitely take her class again... Highly Recommended... 10/10
This teacher's horrible. 100% of the grade is based on 4 exams, 1 final. All test grades count, no curve. Useless in helping students understand the work, no handouts. Examples given do not help in the homework sets. Rushes through information, speaks really quietly. I think i have to drop her class, and now I'm behind in my transfer.
She is the most SWEETEST MATH TEACHER IN THE WORLD!! seriously i've learn much from her class.. LISTEN TO ME TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU WANT TO LEARN MATH!!! YOU WON"T REGRET IT!!
She really helps you when you get stuck on a problem, and you learn something in this class not like other math class. TAKE HER I HIGHLY RECOMMEND EVERYONE to take her class! YOu Won't regret this ever!!!
WORST TEACHER i have ever encountered. The teacher is rude & not professional! She will flat out tell a student in front of others, that she advises he/she should drop the class because they haven't passed the weekly quizzes. There are only 7 - 12 ppl left in the class now... HMMM something is seriously wrong here!
Best math teacher!!
Math E was pretty much common sense and a basic review of what you already learned. I only attended class when we had a test because I already knew what she was teaching. Overall, very helpful. Soft voice but she explains everything with examples and does them with you.
Mrs. P, is a damn good teacher! I was not happy to read the negative comments about her at all! She is tuff and yes she does not fool around, but once you show that Lady that you are there to learn, she will do her best to accomodate you, no matter what your Mathematic level is.
worst teacher i have ever had. rushes trough everything.she also seems to make the most ignorant jokes. she laughs at anything. overall she doesn't teach well go somewhere else trust me!
Ms. Peterkofsky is a great teacher! I don't know what others are saying, but I took 860, not E3 with her. If you don't understand basic math, then you really don't know how to do 1+1 math. Anyway, Ms. Peterkofsky is a serious teacher, and she doesn't mess around. She lectures about the math sections and the exams are very straight forward.
Very nice teacher, doesn't like people who interrupts, very funy sometimes, class may be easy if you stick with her in every exercise, if you have questions on HW, you better ask and you better do it, she doesn't go back for reviews or for explanations, or at least, she does not like that, I'd say too much content for a semester, but helpful though
best teacher ever. lost of work but you actually understand math at the end of the semester!
Dr Peterkofsky is, so far, the best teacher that I've ever had, be it Math or something else. She emphasizes focus on whatever is being taught at an instance and won't hesitate to express disgust if someone decides to disrupt the class. She expects her students to be n class on time and prefers them to show up for each class day.
She's not only a very good Math teacher but she observes the learning abilities/disabilities of her students. First teacher I met who will point you to the right teacher for the next Math level, by the way you learned from her class. Take Math 840 with Professor Peterkofsky and it will be a rewarding experience, guaranteed.
She is a great teacher! She likes to be friends with her students. She understands how stressed we are as students, and sometimes she is willing to postpone tests to allow us to get some rest. Her tests are very easy, most of the problems are homework/lecture problems. Her final is NOT cumulative. =). Attend class, take notes and do your homework!
She must be the cutest nicest teacher in the math department. Calc 2 is supposed to be terrible, but she has made it fun to come to class. Her tests aren't exactly easy but they come from the HW and notes + she drops the lowest grade with a non cumulative final. Take her!
I really loved this teacher. She is so helpful and funny! She truly made me look forward to class. I cant wait to take her again!!
She's great! I always hated math, but Mrs. P not only got me to learn it well enough that I got an "A" in the class, she also got me to kind of like it. But for you slackers out there, be warned...she takes teaching seriously. If you're looking to skate by without putting any effort into the class, look for another instructor.
I love love love this math teacher! Actually I was very disappointed that I couldn't take prealgebra with her because she went on sabbatical in the fall. Dr. P is helpful, energetic, and you will learn math by the end of her class! Take her if you want to understand and learn math. Final is not cumulative and she will drop lowest teat score!
Best Math teacher I've had at CCSF! She's a cool teacher, though she can be strict but she does mean well. I used to dread math but she makes math not seem so bad! I have better understanding of how to work out difficult problems! Love her class!
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER
She's a cool teacher, I just wished she taught what she puts on the test! Her tests are difficult and way more complex then the examples she teaches. She doesn't give credit for homework so your grade for the class is solely based on your test scores...
Took her E3-840 class. REALLY wants here students to succeed however she doesn't hand out grades. If you want help she will make sure you understand everything crystal clear. All you have to do is ask. No homework and attendance isn't necessary. Weekly tests :)
Love this teacher!!! Extremely clear explanations and very helpful!!!
Definitely recommend her! she is extremely nice and a very good instructor. She will not proceed until she feels everyone understands the material. Her class is structured so that she teaches something new, then gives you a bunch of practice problems and walks around asking every individual if they need help. She always more than willing to help!
She is the best Math teacher in the planet Earth!
If you have the chance to take her class, DO IT. She's eccentric, smart and really dedicated to everyone understanding/passing her class. BEST MATH TEACHER EVER.
Ms P is a very good teacher. She is logical and help you to understand the basic concepts easily. All her tests are based on the homework, which is straightforward.
she is the best
started her late start class on chapter 7. No quick review of the pervious chapters b/c she said " we should all know it by now, didn't you take math 840?" Well I wouldn't be in your class if I didn't take it. stares at you when you leave the class for bathroom break, or when you come in late. How uncomfortable. Speaks low and has horrible writing
She's really helpful. she cares about the students and is quite funny. We hardly ever use our books.
She is very nice and I like her encouraging attitude re: math in general. However she unnecessarily strict about closing windows, no food/drink- little things that don't matter which drove me nuts. She is also extremely quiet and wouldn't raise voice, control the loud class, or remove disruptive students- so I couldn't follow lectures. I withdrew.
horrible teacher. I decided to take her class since she has so many good reviews. I think she leaves HER OWN REVIVEWS because she is a horrible teacher. PLEASE READ THIS AND DONT TAKE HER CLASS. she is rude not helpful. WORST TEACHER @CCSF. BEWARE
This teacher will be a hit or miss with people. She is hard to understand in class, will lecture you on your handwriting, and laughs a lot at stuff that isn't very funny. BUT her grading is extremely forgiving, and you can make plenty of mistakes on tests without getting marked down, and is very clear and exact with what will be on test. Very easy.
Ms.P is a wonderful teacher. If you come to class late, then yea you're going to do bad, but its calculus, you have to come to class! Her tests are all based on homework, no surprise questions. She'll adjust test dates so that it doesn't collide with your classes. I highly recommend taking her class. She is an absolute joy.
An excellent professor. If you pay attention take notes and do your homework, the class can be a breeze. If you ask for help she will help you learn stuff.
Okay here it goes. For those who have work, or a kid, or not all the time in the world and have to miss every one in a while, she will be youre worst enemy. She makes a big deal if you miss classes. on top of that she plays favoritism A LOT. Only take her is you have no other choice. She can't teach, makes MANY errors. Dont take her! Beware!!!
Mrs. P is super nice and very chill. She really breaks down the material in order to help students learn and is really willing to help and slow down if you ask her to. If you get behind in the class though, it is tough to catch up because she moves kinda fast, but her class is a must take if you need a class for what she is teaching.
Ni's class was extremely challenging and her teaching style didn't make it any easier. Examples were difficult to understand, not to mention often incorrect. Her test were hard, though not impossible - worst part about them was grading . Half credit for missing something as simple a "-" sign. I DO NOT recommend her class. She is a good person tho
Super nice and friendly, teaches material very well, answers questions with good guidance. Quizzes solely based on the homework problems, which is really helpful. Homework isn't turned in, but you must do it to pass the quizzes, since, like I said, the quizzes are based on it. She gives you packets for the chapters so you don't need the book!
Ms. is the only professor in city college that makes her every student feels loved and cared. He really took her time to explain the materials, and give out examples. The attendance and homework assignments isn't really important for grading in class but, you know? if you don't do your assignments, you would probably wouldn't pass at, any class. :)
she is very soft spoken professor, and expects her class to be respectfull during her lectures. Ms.P is a great professor i would highly recommend her to anyone struggling with math. Very clear and will go over material various times. Attendance is not mandatory but you are responsible for missed material.
Ms. P Is great. I suck at math and took her Math 40 in the summer and she made it so easy to learn, I got an A. I loved her style of teaching so much I took her 860 class and I also got another A in the class. If your not great at math take her class. Its not an easy A class, but she will make it easy.
Poor lecture the teacher is weak in explaining the material well she is good at attendance she never missed the class. she don't relate the material with the real world problem. She don't teach like engineering class her grading is very very tough even she don't give you partial credit for a good trial.
she is an amazing teacher.. make sure you follow up with her.
I really struggled in this class because i took the accelerated Math40/60 course which is 2 in 1. I did terribly at first, but with regular visits to the math lab and her encouragement I eventually got a C in 40 and a B in 60. She really cares and if you talk to her, she listens. She understood my struggle and was there when I needed help. Thanks.
Awesome and helpful teacher! Here is a tip to get an easy A in this class... or any class. REWRITE ALL OF HER NOTES. I found out that if I not only just rewrite, but also reread my notes at most, 2x, I am able to find the pattern to the math problems. ALL THE TEST QUESTIONS ARE BASED ON HER NOTES , (the examples she gives & homework problems)
I really loved this class! Even though it was everyday and at 8 am, Miss P. was always pleasant and welcoming. She seems to enjoy math and is patient for those going slower in class. She explains everything really well and I actually liked having tests every friday because then I could see where I was at in the class and what I understood.
I failed math60 twice&finally passed with Mrs. P. There is a quiz every Friday but they're not long at all&when u're done u get to leave early. Her lectures r super clear. Don't be afraid to ask questions. She hates it if u're late tho, she might call u out. She prints out pages from the textbook so u don't need 2 buy it. NO TURNED IN HW! Take her!
Don't take her, especially for a course as hard as calculus. It's almost two weeks since the class started and I am already struggling! Its not the subject that is too difficult; it's her way of explaining things that makes it way too complicated than it should be. Khan Academy is my lifesaver right now... Sigh
She may be good at teaching the lower level math classes it seems... But don't ever take calculus with her! Did not have a choice and I am having a hard time understanding what she is doing. Your grade will be based on the 5 exams plus final. I can barely understand how to do the first homework because her lecture notes are unclear!
Although she seems charming, helpful & friendly at first, she has a side that many people overlook. Does not have control of her class, students kept talking during lecture yet did nothing to stop them. Made a very poor learning environment. Doesn't like late comers, because it causes interruptions yet literally stops class to glare at late student
I took her class in fall 2015, she is one of the best teachers I ever had in math. All of the poor comments that you have read are fooling you. they are not right. she is experienced and interesting person. make sure to set close to her because once she remembers you you will pass with a goooood grade. (she will help you if you have poor skills.)
To the reviewer below me... Total BS. I was in her class and it was nothing like that. The poor comments are there for a reason. She may be experienced but that does not always make a good instructor. Seeing the lack of punctuation and grammatical errors, I think it is the actual instructor writing her own review.
Peterkofsky is a Tiger Mom - expects 100% and will grade viciously. HOWEVER - she truly cares and gets to know every student. She truly cares about you, and everything in class is clearly defined, no tricks on tests. Study and you'll be fine. She is a very funny, unique personality: Her subtle math/art/society jokes always made us laugh.
Her style of teaching is very different. She literally writes down the problem and solves it as we copy her work. She doesn't go through it at all. if a student needs to use the bathroom she asks them to wait until after class. She will call you out if you come in late and stops class to stare at you if you do. She's not the best teacher
DO NOT take her for calculus. All we do in class are homework problems. We never learn WHY we do stuff, I felt like a "calculus calculator" in her class. She is also hard grader, her voice is low, she makes very ignorant jokes and we can't use the restroom during her class. Homework is not graded by the way and your grade depends only on tests.
She goes through problems way too quickly. Calls you out in front of the class. She is also a tough a grader. I would avoid her.
Her teaching is so bad. Don't choose her class if you actually want to learn something.
I hate math!!! But.... Im doing great in my next class. She moves quickly but very thorough, and does not get frustrated when you need a little help. Shes a real gem. If you want a great foundation for math for your next courses, I definitely recommend her. Sp/2017
I used to hate math until Miss P. If you work, you will do well. You need to listen and stretch your brain. Took over the Summer and was pretty intense, but she made it worth the while.
Ms. P seems intimidating at first, but after the semester progresses her class is more relaxed. Grades are based only on tests, and she grades pretty harshly at first, but if you get on her good side she's VERY lenient. To get on her good side you must show up on time and have a few or no absences. No need to buy the book for her class either.
Starts class 10 to 15 mins late. Teaches way too slow. Tells cringey jokes that arent funny. Hates it when people go to the rest room. Will give you a shameful look if you come in late. When taking a test you have to be carful to not make any mistakes because a simple error multiplication mistake can take off 10% of your grade (ridiculous).
Amazing professor! She gives plenty of examples during class and goes through homework problems in class. Her tests are doable as long as you go over your notes and maybe do the homework! Her grading is basically all tests and the NON-ACCUMULATIVE final. Definitely would take again!
A lot of examples are done during class and the tests are mostly from the class examples and homework. If you don't get an A in this class it's all on you, I got a B 'cause I was working, but once I dropped work hours I improved from failing to a B. She's amazing, take her! Just don't show up late or leave in the middle of class.
Ms. P is a pretty decent teacher. The way she teaches is she starts off introducing the topic and then does example problems in class. Your grade is based solely on tests. Her tests are based on what you learn in class and if you do homework then you're pretty set for the test. Not easy A, but not impossible.
I was away from math for several years and took with her. She teaches step by step for the integration and DEs. She is strict at the beginning of semester but she is a caring person if you know her long enough. She will take care of you as long as you show that you put effort into studying. No homework, grades are based on 5 exams.
Mrs. P is an excellent teacher. If you go to class everyday you can learn a lot from her. Her lecture is clear and she goes over everyday and have a small test on Friday of what was taught all week. Her finals are easy. She does not give you a hundred questions but instead she gives you 10 questions to prepare you for the next math class.
she does't explain clearly and she is very strict with your grade
Excellent teacher. Teaches throughly and gives neat tricks. Exams identical to her inclass examples. Very caring. Grade based only on exams. Easy A if you put in the effort to study and understand all her notes. Very hands on learning(lots of examples). Not theoretical so not reccomended for math major, but good fit engineering majors.
I thought the class was really easy as long as you understand what's going on. She introduces the topic and the whole week does problems on it and every Friday there is a 10 problem test on what you did over the week. She don't like when people are late or leave to use the bathroom.
6 tests are ur grade. She hates late people and if you are on ur phone. She teaches the basics and minimal material, and she spends class time going over problems and giving tips. She teaches out of order from the textbook. Also. textbook not needed! Con is she marks you down a lot for small mistakes on tests... Easy material, hard grader
I took two of her class Math40&60. I like the way that Quiz is every friday, so you don't have to memorize bunch of information. No textbook needed. Don't be late. No need to submit homework but she gives some. Attendance is daily but not mandatory. I got an A in the class. I go to tutor if I needed help. You can see your grade every friday. mnsg
The semester grade is purely determined by 6 Tests and a couple of points for having good attendance record. Very intimidating at first. She wants perfect solutions on the test and lil mistake will cost you a lot. That being said, her tests are not difficult at all as long as you do your homework. Great Professor
she doesn't like student being late to her class. the class is easy, it is an easy A from me. there is homework but it is not mandatory, and the tests are base on the homework problems, she will select a few problems from the hw and use it as the test problems. just remember do all the problems the night before the test at least once.
Great teacher
Do not show up to class late, make noise of any kind,or get up to use the bathroom. That's it. This was such an easy class because she has such a big heart and cares about her students. She uses fun phrases to help you remember the formulas. If you are doing well, you don't have to go often. Homework is optional.
Don't be late and do the assigned homework. The homework is optional and the homework tends to be harder than the exams, so do the homework. Also, the homework problem gets harder as the number increase, but it's not necessary to do all the problem. Overall, this professor is a great choice.
All of the class time is spent doing homework examples, she doesn't really explain the ideas behind problems. Your grade is based solely on tests and she is a very hard grader. Small mistakes like sign errors may cause whole problems to be marked as a zero. However, ALL of the questions on the tests are based on homework/classwork questions.
That women cannot relate her lecture to exercise. No time to do exercise. The test needs lots of space but only little space is given. The women does not have time to answer my questions.
Im mixed on her as a professor, on the one hand she really helps explain how to work through the problems on a mechanical level with an insane amount of in-class examples. But, on the other hand she neglects the important conceptual nuances and applications. I would recommend her if youre willing/able to learn the concepts on your own.
Content's difficulty is dependent on the person, but the graphing topics are very nit picky. Has expectations for the detail for the graphs but not very specific on what she wants. Just every detail showed.
Miss P cares a LOT about her students. She explains math through problem solving, rather than explaining. At first, this was tough for me. I like to know the how and the why of what I am doing, but this pushed me to take better notes and to actually read my textbook and take notes on it. She really stepped up during the COVID-19 shutdown too!
Hated her at first but warmed up to her. Got a 33/100 on first test but class did so bad, we could replace 1st test with 2nd (if better) Started getting 80s-100. Don't need to do all the hw (not req) BUT do the examples and hw problems she does in class similar on tests. Teaches at slow pace. Lose test points easily if not the same as examples.
Had her for online classes. Uses Webassign which is a good resource. Lecture is mostly homework problems. She goes step-by-step so it's easy to follow along. Homework is on the lighter side but it depends on the topic. Tests are straight from the homework with numbers changed. She's also a sweet person in general. TL;DR, Overall solid choice
Ms. P was such a great teacher! She did an amazing job teaching the material and making sure that we understood everything. She seems to really care about her students and how they are doing. The homework and quizzes were well laid out, so we were aware of everything that was due. I would 100% take a class with her again. This class was remote.
She's an amazing professor ! but very hard. She assigns a lot of homework and if you slack off her exams will crush you ! Other than that She brings pizza at the end of every semester and gives out snacks for every lecture
She has weekly lectures about the chapter each week. It is a little hard to understand her, but overall she writes notes and shares them after each lecture. She assigns homework via Webassign. There are quizzes about one every two weeks. The class is easy as long as you can finish the homework on time. She has a no late work policy.
The class was really easy and she's pretty nice but sets clear boundaries. She's not going to go out of her way to help you and is very strict about deadlines/punctuality. She's very set in her perspective and has gone through a lot.
She gives a lot of homework to help you prepare for the tests. Do the homework and you'll get an A. I fell behind on homework due to work so this cost me a good grade. The bi-weekly quizzes and final exams have fewer questions like 12 questions, it is based on the homework. She offers no extra credit or late homework so you gotta keep up.
