Extremely Helpful. Dr. Khan's lectures are pure learning environment through discussions and group activity. Before every quiz, we have a discussion about the book/movie, which gives you better insight what to expect. He gives you enough time for papers and encourages you to see him or tutoring lab for any help before submitting your final draft.
Dr. Khan is probably one of the best English teachers GGC has to offer (too bad he's retiring). The course work was relatively easy. I never read the first book we had to write an essay on and I got a A on the quiz and essay. We got to watch two movies and had a group presentation at the end. He cut the research paper in half from 10 pages to 5
His quizzes were very to the point and you have to pay attention to every single little detail if you want to do well on them. He gave you time on the essays, but I just didn't like how he was very vague about the essay topics.
Dr. Khan is one of the rare super intelligent professors.I absolutely enjoy his methods of teaching. Dr khan is honest and straight to the point.
U don't feel like u r in a class. His teaching methods are simple yet inspirational.Very very helpful, gives enough opportunities to do better. He is the best professor anyone can have for english class.
The class was boring but he made sure that students understand the material, so if you can stay awake you should be able to pass the class
His class wasn't necessarily hard ,but very tedious. He was very vague about the assignments && he is a VERY TOUGH grader. Make sure you have your formatting correct when you turn in your papers. I'm very happy I don't have his class anymore.
Go to class to the homework you will pass the class easily.
Great teacher! He has a accent that makes him hard to understand from time to time, but he is a great professor! He is a HUGE fan of the standard 5 paragraph essay
It took some time for me to realize how helpful Dr. Khan's class was. He focuses on teaching critical thought and how to organize thoughts using the five-paragraph essay format. By practicing this process though his assignments I became a much better writer. His class may feel tedious at times, but do your best and you'll appreciate it later.
Public speaking is not fun, but you can get through this class if you show up and do the work. Dr. Khan has a thick accent, but it's easy to understand. He's well-traveled and has many stories to relate to the class. He finds leaving in the middle of class to be rude, so don't do it unless you have a good reason. Good sense of humor though.
He comes across as funny. He wrote the textbook which is just as unorganized as his class and assignments. He advocates professionalism yet is late and often unprofessional at times. He will not grade anything until the last week of class. He is an "okay" professor at best. He is very old school does not take well to technology or new ideas.
Dr. Khan is a very bad professor. He wrote the book, which is terrible. Looking up information in the textbook is useless. Dr. Khan is never clear on his assignments and never fulfills what he says he will do. All semester long we never knew what we had in the class because he never posted the grades. Avoid him at all costs if you can.
He is a funny guy and yet you will have to work at you speeches he gives out some pop quizzes however public speaking is not a easy class
Excellent professor but tough on grading. Participate frequently and he will help in getting you the grade you want. Contribute to the conversations but don't be a suck-up. Make sure to dress professionally for any presentations- pressed suit and tie for guys, business professional for women! You WILL get an A if you do this and learn along the way
Dr. Khan is very knowledgeable and his lectures were never boring. He encourages class participation and discussion, and provides clear feedback. This class was surprisingly enjoyable!
Dr. Khan is okay. His lectures are excruciatingly long and tedious. I expected to learn a lot but got nothing out of his class. There are three speeches you have to do, one group project, and two tests, a midterm and a final. Participation matters so be there.
Did work, participated in discussions, studied, extra credit, &asked questions. First three speeches I received A's;the last one I received a 92 and then he decided to subtract 5 pts because my outline was not like his; it was identical. For the group presentation, he subtracted 15pts from my grade because I read from an index card. Pop quizzesbs
He talked about divorce statistics and said if all of us got married, 40% would divorce and a student said, "No we wouldn't." He went off on the student. He started talking about his degree in statistics and began undermining him. Then next class he asked the student for a meeting after and went off on him for "being insubordinate".
Dr. Khan gives me mixed signals. I hate hate hate that his book is not printed All online. His Quizzes suck- They are so random and very vague; Usually one question-so its a 0 or a 100%. After all of this said I still would probably take him again. He is a very respectable man. He always asks what for no reason though.
Dr. Khan is not an easy professor. He expects a lot from his students. Everything is your opinion versus his. He encourages questions, yet makes the student feel incompetent once one is asked. He preaches professionalism, yet is not prepared. Lectures are long and there are no visuals. Test questions are unclear and based on his opinions.
Let me first start off by saying Public Speaking is SUPPOSED TO BE FUN. This professor made me question my sanity in his class. He claims he encourages questions but goes OFF the instant he has to "repeat" himself. He has a copy of the textbook himself but requires everyone else to buy the online book. His pop quizzes are so opinionated as well.
Be ready to work for your grade, very old school so make sure your ready to bring your A game in your speech, practice from now to avoid fillers (like, ummmm, you know etc.)
I enjoyed Dr. Khan's class! He's definitely old school so dressy attire & no visible tattoos are expected each speech. He's a tough grader but fair and he gave us 2 pop quizzes which were super random (I failed both). The test are easy as long as you study the keywords on his study guide you'll be fine. The book is MANDATORY! I'll take him again.
Dr. Khan is a great guy. I really enjoyed the class and he made it easy to understand concepts. He will work with you if you need help! He is pretty funny and his lectures are not awfully boring. Would take him again.
This prof is okay but he's not very lenient with attendance even in a special circumstance. If you have health issues that may cause you to be out- DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He will not care.
My worst prof to date. Don't do it.
Do not take this class if you think it'll be an easy grade. Dr. Khan makes you work for it. There are very few assignments (speeches, a couple of quizzes, two exams, and homework), so every grade counts. I think he is respectable and intelligent, but only take his class if you are willing to be challenged.
Do not take this class. He is rude, pretentious, and would frequently leave rude comments on my graded outlines or quizzes. He would dedicate entire classes to belittling my class and criticizing us for being "lazy". I always dreaded going to his class. Yes, he is smart, but I don't think his knowledge is worth feeling incompetent.
I am writing another part to my review because I am this frustrated with him. He requires you to buy a book that HE WROTE that costs over $70. I have never had a problem with speaking in front of big groups or presenting projects, however I would get low B's and C's on all of my speeches. I STRONGLY advise you to NOT take his class.
Dr. Khan is not as bad as these rates make him, but he does make the class more difficult than it needs to be. You must have his textbook to do the homework. He gave like 4 quizzes that are very random and difficult, but midterm and final are easy if you do the study guide. He complains about students not studying and not remembering what he says
He goes off tangent a LOT. His book SUCKS, but you must have it for the homework. Be ready to put on your serious face because he grades HARD on speeches. Midterm and final are fair because he gives study guides so worry not about that. If he calls your name often then he likes you. If he doesn't then you are on his bad side so good luck with that.
ATTEND HIS CLASS, otherwise after 3 absences he will make sure your grade is WAY below what you worked for. He does not care about his students AT ALL so take care of your work; he doesn't take a lot of grades so everything counts! Pay attention, study, & prepare, you will do good. Personally, he is not likable, very unfair, and unkind, beware.
He speaks too low. He'll make a mistake on something with your grade and still not correct it even if the whole class told him. His pop quizzes are so off topic. He's an old guy that finds every little thing disrespectful. He's a scammer! MAKING students pay hundreds of dollars for HIS book every semester. I passed but this class was too stressful.
Dr. Khan was a fair professor- I had him for Media and Scociety, it was tough, but he knew I was a hard worker- Make SURE you do everything he asks you to do on the theme papers
stay on top of your work, I'm not sure if he is like this every semester but this semester he was slacking. He gave us a bunch of work the last three weeks of school, he wasn't clear on what he wanted on the assignments yet he was very critical when grading. The class was not hard, he made it hard towards the end. just do your work and participate
He is the best public speaking teacher anyone can ask for! I learned so much in his class and I passed with an A. Anyone who has anything bad to say about him are just lazy students who thinks a teacher is supposed to baby sit them. Just pay CLOSE attention to what he wants in the speeches and your will do good.
Dr. Khan makes what could be a pretty fun class much more boring and difficult than it should be. He grades speeches incredibly tough and few people ever manage to score an A without bonus points. He wants you to do your speech and outline exactly the way he wants it, so it takes away from creativity. You also cannot miss more than three classes.
Public speaking was not a bad class in my opinion, I expected it to be more discussion based- it was just Dr. Khan lecturing the entire time with students chiming in every so often. Dr. Khan is very particular and detail oriented so be aware of that. Also, BEWARE he gives 1 question pop quizzes that cover 3 chapters at the least.
Niaz Khan thinks he is a cool teacher, but the truth is that he's really old and doesn't know how to teach. His tests make no sense and the in class presentations are hard. He makes us do an impromptu speech, which is bad enough saying that I have anxiety. He gave me a 72 (even though I really tried my best given the one min we had to prepare).
Hard grade and really confusing tests
Shouldve dropped that class when I had a chance. Awful teacher
Everything mentioned in the previous 1 Star/Awful reviews is true- he's pretentious, long-winded, and at least in the case of his virtual class, wastes time shaming the whole class for small mistakes. He deducts points on assignments for things he never mentioned beforehand. Only took his class because the others were full.
The class was very stressful. He grades extremely hard when I'm doing the best I can. He doesn't record the classes so we can't go back and get the information we need if we missed one day. We have to do a presentations and my anxiety is very bad.
He was straightforward. He helped us and made my day better. He cares for his students even if it doesn't seem like it.
DO NOT TAKE HIM, could be an easy class but makes it difficult for no reason. Save yourself the trouble and go with someone else. Failed my entire class and wasn't even there half the semester.
He means well but his classes are stressful. He has a tendency to ramble from time to time, but it can be entertaining. He can come off as cold and it felt like he was grading assignments as an English teacher instead of a communications teacher. Not my favorite, but not the worst.
DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT take him. Such a harsh grader with papers, it is impossible to please him or get an A. He acts like this is a 3k class. He is also rude and sassy when critiquing your paper. He is rude when u ask about things on the syllabus. Inconsistent with quizzes, never tells us when we have one until the last minute. Pls avoid him.
Class wasn't awful, but what he talked about and had us read was rarely the homework or tests and quiz material. VERY tough grader and way too particular for what should have been an easy class. Made us present and take a test and do a 5 page paper the last week of class. too much
A student disagreed with a statement Dr. Khan made and he said "you cannot disagree with me." Dr. Khan teaches from the textbook. All his lectures are practically reading from it word for word. He is an incredibly tough grader but it is mostly because he doesn't make it clear what criteria is needed for a good grade. He is very behind the times too
Very unorganized and unethical. He says you don't need to take notes cause he'll give them to you but he'll give them to you like after the test is done and its annoying. His lecture is the book really and he LOVES to only be called Dr. Khan. I almost got a 0 for a paper cause my paragraphs weren't the same length, plagiarism he says. Easy class
0/5. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!! All this professor does is lecture the whole semester. He rushes the 3 speeches (informative, impromptu, and persuasive) and group project to the end of the semester and is a harsh grader. He's EXTREMELY RUDE. Even if you come to class, he will give you a zero on attendance to purposely flunk you if you skip more than 3x.
DO NOT TAKE. For a public speaking class, there are almost no speeches given with most of the class being comprised of lectures that involve more about Dr. Khan's personal life and opinions than anything do to with bettering one's speaking. In fact, it could be argued that the main take away from this class is the top 3 causes of divorce.
Every detail matters to him, but it gets in the way of his teaching. He expects a lot for a class that is in the 1100 level. If you are late, he will not give you full credit even if you are 15 min late. A very tough grader, your paper must be perfect to get a passing grade. Takes up more time than the scheduled class time sometimes so be prepared.
Dr. Khan is... interesting. The main thing are the 3 essays. He pulls random material during the first 10 minutes of class and calls it his "lecture". Surprise pop-quizzes and does not know how to work a computer. Attendance will screw your grade so show up on time. Best of luck soldiers. (Oh and you'll learn the top 3 reasons of divorce too.)
Dr.Khan was not a good professor. He was never clear with what he wanted from you and would constantly change his mind on things. Very tough grader, almost as if nothing was good enough for him. Would always talk about the 3 causes of divorce like that had anything to do with the material we were learning....Would not recommend taking this class.
GGC needs to fire this professor. If you take this class I feel bad for you. He is a tough grader and the lectures he reads from the book. The quizzes are pretty easy, he just grades tough on papers. He looks more on the formatting and grammar than the actual essay.
HORRIBLE experience! He talks the entire time!! Very Very boring class. Tough and mean grader. He is not understanding at all. He is a old man and stuck in his old ways.
He isn't an understanding professor, and he grades extremely tough and doesn't grade the context of your essays. He is often cold towards his students, his lectures aren't inspiring, would not recommend.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. The class is just him reading his text book word for word and the website the book is on is nearly useless and full of typos + quiz mistakes. He also said some crazy stuff in support of eugenics and breeding out autism + that autism is caused by rays and chemicals. Aced all my classes except his.
DO NOT TAKE DO NOT TAKE I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH DR. KHAN AS YOUR PROFESSOR. Dr. Khan is an absolutely horrendous excuse of a professor and a human being. Everything that is being said in these reviews is the absolute truth. He will deliberately fail you if given the chance and will also humiliate you in front of everybody for fun.
Probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. He reads straight from the textbook and talks the ENTIRE class period. He invades personal space and calls on everyone, so beware. Unfortunately, he is the only professor teaching this course I need for my CMAP major. Good luck.
It is like he wants you to fail. His ego is sky high and he should not be a professor because he does not care about his students. His feedback is terrible and the way he grades does not make sense. He does not know how to use a computer and will blame you instead of realizing he made a mistake. He liked to make fun of his students (in a bad way)
Made us buy the textbook HE WROTE. Cant leave midclass. SPEAK/talk for participation Bad speaker? Score high on clsswrk/test. VERY tough on speeches. For an intro class, there could've been better methods Doesn't follow dates on syllabus, fine but, at least via email/d2l not just lectures Don't ask to up grade, accept it. I was at an 89.
He interrupted lectures to get onto individual students for minor issues, he would talk down to students, and he graded very harshly in an intro-level public speaking course. Consider that for many students this may be their first time speaking in front of a crowd. Don't take him, GGC does not require public speaking for any majors afaik.
Dr. Khan is a tough grader, however, if you try your best you will be fine.
Dr. Khan is the worst professor I've ever had. He wastes the entire 1.5-hour class rambling about irrelevant facts instead of teaching you how to make speeches. His grading is unnecessarily rough, especially for a beginner-level course. You'll leave this class feeling like the only valuable thing you've learned is the importance of ratemyprofessor.
If you put in the effort, he'll take care of you. His classes sometimes do get a bit boring but overall it's not bad. He's very kind and understanding. All you need to do is show up for his class and actually put in effort.
Dr. Khan is a supportive professor who does an excellent job preparing students for quizzes and exams. As long as you attend class and stay focused, passing should be no problem. However, if you're careless, YOU WILL FAIL.
Do not take this man. his assignments are easy. You need the textbook, test are online speeches are easy. horrible/rude teacher tho he will grade you poorly if you do something he doesn't like or agree with. and a smart ass when respond to emails you can't be on your phone at all! lectures are long an boring because he's JUST talking.
I would never recommend this guy to my worst enemy, made this class extremely horrendous for me, I hated this class so much it seemed like a better option to drop out and work at a fast food restaurant
Dr. Khan was probably the worst professor I had so far. His lectures were so boring to listen to I legit fell asleep a couple times. He makes you do all the work for the 4 speeches on your own time while spending an entire hour droning on about the textbook he forces you to read on your own and reads for the lectures. Good man, but TERRIBLE class.
As someone who is a good student (like who only gets A & B), he not that bad of a professor. -4 mini quizzes (10-15 questions) -2 big test (midterm & final) -2 papers -oral presentation -textbook is def needed (YOU MUST COMPLETE THE MODULES!!!!) He's not bad but he isn't great. His class is a little boring but overall, a very chill person.
The class was fine up until the end. My main issue is the rubrics, they are short and don't contain a lot of specific instructions. Grading wise he's tough and sometimes it felt like he was pulling shit out of his ass for the sake of just lowering your grade. I would not take his class unless you want ur gpa to take a beating.
Pretty much an average experience for me. However he grades both attendance and participation. I made the mistake of not talking much. I assumed participation included attendance but it's just overall. I went from a B to a D in just a few days. It's annoying but for the love of god just talk or just don't take the class.
This is by far the worst professor I ever had in college! He makes fake accusations of students using Chat GPT, he will lecture for the entire class, and makes the class harder than what it's supposed to be however the assignments are pretty easy. He is also extremely rude and very unprofessional, I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.
This professor is an extreme nitpicker. he will rip apart your essay and give you a 70 for formatting alone. DO NOT TAKE
This “professor” is just downright horrible at teaching. I've never received a failing final grade for any class except this one. He has no sense of compassion or understanding. He also said he remembers attendance of who was present, late, or absent, only by his memory. The attendance is a huge part of your grade as well.
just take the class seriously and it will be easy. do what Dr. Khan asks, as the assignments are easy, he just has strict requirements. lectures are long but he encourages open discussion which is nice. he is very caring (despite how he may come across haha); just give him your respect and it will be reciprocated.
Ns y'all were dtm with the reviews that I was scared to take the class, y'all just lazy. Pay attention, TALKKKKKKKK, answer involuntarily! Lectures are boring but the class is not hard. 3 RESEARCH speeches, 1 group presentation, final, d2l quizzes. Outline research papers (short) . Dr Khan is simplydirect just follow instructions tbh and your good.
Fairly easy class, do the work and meet his requirements. Lectures are boring. Attendance is mandatory; you cannot even be late. He is insensitive. I lost some loved ones and expressed it to him in my reflection paper, and he didn't even take the time to say sorry for your losses. He is a terrible listener and likes going back and forth.
He hardly posts on D2L and gives everything as paper handouts, which is frustrating because we're in 2025. Speak in his class to earn your participation grade and to make the class a little less boring. He does not know how to listen and properly answer questions. He also speaks in circles. The final portfolio is NOT for a grade, so don't worry.
If you ask him a question and feel as if he did not explain it well enough to your understanding, keep pressing him till his answer makes sense! You're the one paying tuition. It is your future and GPA on the line, not his! I would ask him questions about suspicions in my grade, and he asked me, "Why do you care about your grade so much?" What!?
The Media and Society course requires a mandatory $98 ebook that the lectures are entirely based on, yet the ebook grades don't get posted in D2L, making the purchase feel like a waste.
Of all the professors I've had, Dr. Khan is the most controversial. His assignments range from simple, to excessive and he expects you to be paying attention at all times or else your grade drops significantly. His 90 dollar work in progress textbook was also not worth the purchase at all.
