Very upbeat and humorous. Keeps you entertained while still learning. Gives students the day before exams to study together. VERY helpful.
Makes history fun.Great stories.Excellent historian well versed in all and esp. European history.Great prep time for tests.Tests relevant and clear. Mr. A will make your history experience fun!
The man's inspired me to be a history professor. I hope he writes a book someday. He's brilliant

He's a great professor; he makes history fun, even the "boring" things (I'm sure he'll love to read this). Anyone who wants to become interested in history, take his class. But you have to put in an effort.
GREAT PENMENSHIP. EZ to read things on the board.
A fun class to be in. A very "hip" teacher.
Great teacher, funny as hell. He does a good impression of Charlton Heston. class is easy if you just listen to his not too subtle hints.
cool teacher...had him at 7:00am so his stale jokes really didn't bother me. made the class invloved in his teachings. His tests are fairly easy cuz you go over them a day before and he gives you hints and sometimes ansewers during your study groups.
Funny but he is late every day (final too) it made me want to freak out! the guy gets off topic like ans ADD kid at a fair. one minute you are talking about the revolution and the next he is talking about his time in france in the 60's. Train of thought derailed, no survivers. FIND ANOTHER TEACHER!!
Very good for teaching history, keeps it interesting and relevant. Sometimes digresses, but always entertaining!
AWESOME Teacher!! very funny, awesome teacher
HORRIBLE teacher, gets off topic, rambles on and on, loves to talk about his trips to France. Likes to go off to his office and make phone calls during class. Forgotten many facts and can't remember what he is talking about. He relies on his notes from his history college professor. GET ANOTHER TEACHER!
I just loved learning about his trips to the batting cages and his trips to France and all he did there. Horrible teacher! Complain to the cashier and get your money back!
I took this guy three times he's that ****ing cool, Just go to class listen to him and his super opinionated history and laugh a little bit.. get your grade and smile.

HE GET'S OFF TOPIC AND CONFUSES. BOUNCES AROUND FROM TIME PERIOD TO TIME PERIOD AND PERSON TO PERSON SO IT'S HARD TO FOLLOW SOMETIMES. UNDERSTANDING THOUGH. OVERALL FEELING B+
Pretty much the best history teacher ever!!!!
THIS MAN IS THE****, he's funny as hell and his class is easy all you gotta do is ****in go and listen to him ramble on about his european trips and good ole days at the brewery in germany
Seriously looked into being a history major after taking 3 of his classes! He uses notes but ALL good teachers do! (Gotta get that stuff right) You'll learn lots and he actually cares about his students!
He is almost as funny as Oli! His classes are fantastic! He is very helpful and an all around great instructor!
He was funny but constantly got side-tracked and it was really hard to follow his lectures (which is all he does), the class was pretty easy if you can teach yourself out of the text book.
It was very hard to follow his lectures because he would jump around so much. He got side tracked very easily, and I think about half his lectures had nothing to do with US History, which was the class I was taking. He is a very funny man though.
I had him Fall quarter 04. Easy, easy. He seriously gets sidetracked, but he's funny, and it's great because you never need to go to class.... just read the book. I got a B and I was hardly ever there. That map test thing though.... urgh.
alforde is one rockin' teacher, who knows how to grab the class by the eyelash and whip them through history!
Hes a good teacher and knows what hes talkin about. Its been ok so far, except when he kicked us all out of class beacuase we didnt have our reading done haha. That was funny.
HORRIBLE!! I do not care about his daughter's batting cage lessons or his trips to France. Babbles on and on and repeats himself. Had to resort in using his notes he took back in college. TIME TO GET YOUR OWN! AWEFUL - Only good thing to say is that he was easy..
Really easy, nice guy, not boring for once.
Skipped around too much, sometimes forgot his information and was often incorrect on his history. Hard to believe people thought he was a good one!! HORRIBLE
Nothing good to say about this bonehead.
he was okay i suppose, after he finally figured out what he was trying to say and after he got sidetracked by a lame story or two..three..or four times
Hmm looks like theres a nice trend on how people think of this horrible professor! He should get fired
If you have ever taken Murray you will think Alforde is god. He is a pretty interesting guy to listen to and stay focused on. While he does drag on about his personal life sometime....its not that bad, he just shows his personality more than some may wish.
One of the best teachers I had at SPSCC. I'm guessing the "haters" pulled bad grades in his class or aren't fans of history classes in general. Class was fun and easy.
he was overall a very good teacher. At seven in the morning he was very sarcastic, had great enthusiasm and energy
Alforde is a God when it comes to history. His classes are interesting and always entertaining. Bye far the best teacher yet!
What's wrong with the tenure? Nicholas Alforde.
Love his class!
Easy A, but teacher is a flop
Watched the videos, read the book, but could have done without arrogance from professor. To his credit, he did give out helpful study guides before exams.
I absolutely adored both classes I had with him. I learned a lot and thought him very helpful and entertaining. you'll like him if you like sarcasm monty python, black adder, and the beatles. wears chuck taylors with pride. he does get fuddled a bit but if you pay attention you'll pass with little trouble.
AWSOME! If you can deal with sarcasm, and a little skipping around you will be fine, hes probably one of the most interesting people i have met. Only grades are tests and he gives out very helpful study guides. GREAT TEACHER!
Biggest joke on campus. This dude tells stories but does not teach. Easy class if you want an A. IF you want to learn take anything else.
Dont listen to the guy before... Professor Alforde is awsome! He does skip around a little, but he teaches you so much, and wants everyone to understand it. He has the best stories, and he knows what the hell he is talking about. GREAT TEACHER and for the tests he gives study guides, and on the final he gives you the QUESTIONS! AWSOME!
If you're willing to put forth the effort to keep up with him (he does go fast, but he has to crame THOUSANDS of years of history into one quarter) you can learn an extraordinary amount of information from this guy. he really does know his field and is a smart, funny and very fair teacher. I would definitely take a class with him again.
great lectures!
Pretty easy class. Very likeable guy. Sometimes he was a bit disorganized.
Easy, boring... will add nothing to a learning experience.
Having taken a couple courses with prof. Alforde, I can agree that he teaches an interesting and entertaining class, which isn't overly difficult to get an A in. However, I think he sacrifices quality and depth in exchange for "fun". I like the guy personally, but if you want college level history look elsewhere... he's still teaching high school.
Nick is a very entertaining instructor, very personable and easy to understand. Recommended!
He is a fantastic instructor. His class is easy as long as you show up to class. His lectures are entertaining and easy to listen to. He's a little disorganized but overall, great class. Highly recommended.
GREAT teacher, very Funny, kept history intresting
Very interesting lectures. Keeps students from getting to bored.
Fantastic class, his lectures are interesting and he knows a lot of trivia about famous people and has travlled the world tremendously and talks about it in class.
LOVED this class! History has always been a complete bore for me but he definitley keeps it interesting! I definitley reccomend this class! (Don't buy the textbook though, its a waste of money because you won't use it)
I took History 102 and 103 with him. He's a really funny guy. Loved both classes. Learned alot and enjoyed his lectures. He speaks French and German which is pretty cool. You will here alot about his European escapades. But those just make class more interesting.
I absolutely love this class. and you dont have to be super into history to take it. He tells a lot of stories about the places we are actually talking about which is so awesome, it makes it come alive, and hes super funny
SUPER AWESOME PROF!!!!! My all time favorite. I've took almost every class possible with him. He's SO much fun and loves to help you with tests =0) I'd have to say, as I'm just finishing my associates. He has to be one of the best if not the best!!!!!!
Interesting stories, but a waste of time if you want to be challenged. However, if all you want is credit then he's perfect.
Really smart guy, but gives flighty lectures. It is really hard to take notes from Alforde because he will talk about so many different things rather than one consistant subject. It is really difficult to figure out what is necessary to write down. He is a funny guy, and will likely entertain, but not the best teacher. Also talks fast.
Really funny guy and very entertaining but if you actually want to learn DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If you want an easy A, by all means. It's not that he doesn't know the subject, it's just that he gets sidetracked too much. I know more about his car and his trips to Europe than I do about Western Civ.
I really like Alforde. He's probably the best teacher I've ever had. The class is pretty easy if you go every day. Attendance isn't really mandatory but it's unlikely you'll pass if you don't go, because it's pretty much all lecture. That can sound boring but he makes it really enjoyable and if you pay attention your brain just absorbs what he tell
Great guy, but I didn't learn that much in his class. He likes to tell stories about his past.
I took the first History of Western Civ. class from Professor Alforde. The class was mostly based on lectures, which Mr. Alforde made very interesting. It is pretty easy to pass if you are good at taking multiple-choice tests. He entertained himself by trying to gross-out the class. He would say, "They can't do anything about it -- I have tenure."
Really cool teacher. Easy to get a good grade and you do learn! I dont know why people say they don't learn anything. Stupid idiots. Who cares about learning a whole lot of history anyways!! Getting A's is what matters!!!!!
Really nice and funny guy. Does tell stories, but they are NOT boring. All around good teacher and very helpful.
he's a great guy, funny smart, and very wise. The reason he's a history teacher is because he's as old as dirt
I wish i could get my money back for that class. WORST teacher ever. all talk and no teach. he spent the first 15 minutes of class trying to sell his trips abroad so he could earn a free ride. WASTE OF TIME
He's an AWESOME teacher, i'll take all his classes if i can!! His tests are multiple choice and class the day before tests are study days!!! it's very helpful! ask him questions he's very friendly! + he wears convers :D
Hes a great guy, and has inspired me to become a history teacher. he is great!
Nicholas Alforde is a fun teacher. He makes a 7:30 am class interesting and his "different" style keeps you engaged! I'd easily take another class from him!!!!
this professor is very easy, and it doesn't take much to pass his class...he is rude, and very careless with his comments. he has favorites, and it is obvious...if you want an easy A take the guy, if you want to learn, take someone else
Scattered but easy and fun
Dead easy class. Nick is very knowledgeable and interesting.
I loved this class. It is easy, but who says learning has to be hard? Its easy cause he makes it very interesting, his lectures are like stories so they are fun to hear and easy to remember. It is a great way to understand why things happened not just that they did!
Yes Nick is a bit flighty, but it makes for an interesting class. He is redundant on many things so it is not that hard to follow or catch up. He likes to tell stories and you can tell he is very passionate about his job.
The class is what you make of it. Nick has awesome stories. He kept threatening to make quizzes on the reading, but that never happened. Pop quizzes so attendance is a must.Awesome prof, easy A if you can follow directions.
An hilarious man with a savage thirst for history. Everyday I look forward to sitting in class waiting to learn something new, fun and exciting. The work load is simple, and the tests are quite easy as well. He enjoyed my dark hair, my Filipino heritage, and we shared memorable laughs between one another. This guy deserves a hot tamale.
Great Teacher. Fun, Charming, interesting, and sexy ;) I suggest talking one of his classes.
Nick Alforde is a Clint Eastwood amountof badax. The class, Western Civ,taught me a lot. Alforde keeps things funny all day (like sergienko if you know him), Just don't pronounce his name al-ferd. it's alforde- like the name short for albert and the car brand. The class hardly felt like school.
Mr. Alforde is Awesome. If you're a History Major, or you just wanna know history. check him out<3
Great prof. he really knows his stuff. Class is always fun and insightful..
Alforde's class is pretty easy. You can pass with an A if you want to. He was not a very approachable person though. He's pretty moody. I asked him one time when the next test was going to be and he got mad at me for asking and just told me to read the book and come to class. I never know when the next test was going to be and that really sucked.
A wonderful teacher -- he's very passionate about world history and it shows in his lectures. He can get pretty moody & gets off-track sometimes, but it keeps the class interesting. I HIGHLY suggest reading the textbook independently, & it will help you GREATLY if you read a few pages ahead of the lectures.
Alforde is THE BEST teacher ever. He is so snarky and hilarious that I looked forward to his 8 AM Western Civ class every single day. He seems to know something about everything and lectures in a very casual but informative way. TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM!
Interesting teacher. everyone can get a decent grade by showing up to class and paricipating
He makes history very interesting. He is obviously passionate about it. He loves the world, people, and the story of it all. He is understanding and helpful, even though he might not seem like it during lectures. Hardly biased. Great class.
Don't be on Mr. Alforde's bad side. He is very nice to you if he likes you but he can be very moody. I enjoyed his class, make sure you go over the study guide for the test and you will recieve a good grade. He gets off topic easy.
Great Professor. Funny and you will learn a lot
Everything about Alforde is awesome. Best teacher ever.
By far one of the best professors I've ever had. He's interesting, friendly, and energetic. His tests are easy if you pay attention, and you actually get something out of the class because he makes it so engaging.
He tries to be funny which makes class a little more interesting, but it didn't change the fact it was all lectures, no discussion. It's also a quiz and test based class so if you're good at that I'd recommend this class...if not well it can be challenging
If you like teachers that do not challenge you to learn then you will like this profess. He is a nice guy but not a good professor by my standards. He would be better suited teaching it to high school freshman.
I loved this class. Alforde is funny and knows his stuff. You rarely need to read the text book, just go to class, take notes, and listen to his lectures. That's basically what I did and passed with a B+.
This class was fairly easy. I sort of listen in class, and read the book a little. As long as you're not a total slacker, you'll do fine. 1 critical review, 1 map test, 10 quizzes, and 5 exams. Tests all multiple choice, but apparently he sometimes does short essays at the end (1 paragraph). He isn't super helpful or nice, but it's an easy A.
Alford is funny and engaged with his classes. Telling stories and making the class information really stick with his anecdotes. The class itself is relatively easily as long as you pay attention though very little reading is required
There is no homework for this class. No final projects, the tests were all multiple choice. He is so vauge and i didnt learn much from him. This class is so easy, but i wish he wouldve made class more exciting. he doesnt provide a reading guide he just says, "read what I'm talking about" not that great of a teacher, but easy A.
Professor Alforde is by far my favorite professor I have ever had, he is funny, engaging lecturer, loves what he does and knows what he is talking about. There is a 3-5 page critical review, 5 easy multiple choice exams, 10 pop quizzes very easy, a very very easy map quiz if you study daily for 5 mins a day. Final made up of well met exam questions
I thought he was great! His class is not only interesting, but funny. Sometimes I would laugh hard at his jokes. He will get upset though if the class has not done the reading. However, the lectures are exactly what is in the book. None the less, history becomes more interesting. And he will write a great letter of recommendation for you if you.
The material was interesting, he has traveled and lived in Europe so he had a lot od facts relating to the subject. As a teacher, unprofessional on every level, yells, swears constantly at students 4 not raising their hand, or raising their hand. His moods and volatility are different from one minute to the next.NEVER! would I req. him 4 a teacher.
likes to repeat himself, not very helpful, stict it comes to assignments
Hard to follow, gets really distracted and starts off into a story, he is however hilarious. I feel if you read the actual book at home and study you will to fine. No homework though and final was a combo of all 5 prior tests.
Dr. Alforde is a great professor. He is passionate and has traveled extensively. Some mornings, he can be a bit feisty but who isn't? He hates if you show up to class late or interrupt his lectures. Really take advantage on his pre-test handouts and stay up on the textbook readings. I would easily take his class again.
Great Professor, don't be late to class. Best class of the day, because it's like story time with Alforde. I consider him a friend, because I took him every quarter I wa in school. Better hurry, he is retiring soon.
Great and EASY professor. Has a lot of announced "pop quizzes". EVERY question has 3 multiple choice answers to it though (Even on tests). Can't make up quizzes if absent from class that day. Easiest history professor at SPSCC.
Do not expect to ask questions for clarification. He is very arrogant and condescending. I am NOT an 18 year old student whining. He is rude and is not there to educate, just to show you how smart he believes he is.
Alford is a hilarious Guy! And for my class his teaching was clear was and efficient (he very rarely ever went full class time) His test he very easy and the Was minimal.
This is a blowoff class. There are no out of class assignments and if you have ever had any experience with western civ at all you'll pass. I didn't read the book, I almost never showed up, and I got an A. He was funny and likeable but I didn't learn anything. I think a class being easy in this case is not good.
Easy A kind of class but I didn't learn much at all. I skipped a lot of classes and still passed because his lectures were frequently off topic. He talked more about his own personal experience than the book material, which would have been find if it was completely relative. Chill teacher, no homework, relatively easy quizzes, but not interesting.
Great guy really funny and he likes to get to know you if you run into him individually. His lectures are very scattered though. You can skip class every once in a while as long as you do the online reading. Which you should definitely do for his "pop" quizzes that he almost always warns you about. Save your old exams for the final.
Attendance is mandatory in that info. during lectures are on the pop quizzes and tests. Not that attendance is required he figures we are all adults.
Great teacher kept class interesting, doesn't grade on attendance but covers a lot each day so I would sugest going.
