Very tough! Not an easy class. Must study, ask questions, do readings, do study guide, and must be ready for quizzes and research papers. Test/exams not multiple choice. Gives you terms or names, must define them by location, year, etc. no multiple choice, all essays. No homework, no slides either. Knows material very well! Always on time and neat.
Extremely tough. Lecture is thorough, quizzes and exams are hard. Instead of multiple choices, he throws hundreds of terms to prepare for and picks several to let you identify. He doesnt give a certain identification in case that "different people have different ideas," however he will grade you according to what he thinks those tems ought to be.
Very knowledgeable, willing to help you when needed. Always available during office hours. Tests/quizes are graded based on 4 areas so studying is a must. Must know dates (@ least to the century) geography, basic info, and significance. If you hate reading dont take this class.
Attendance was not mandatory but he keys into the things needed for exams if you're present. Read the chapters and be familiar with the study guides and you'll come out just fine on the exams. Grades based mostly off exams with some help coming from the relatively easy essay topics given out. Helpful during office hours and a real nice guy.
Prof. Bomba was great. He was very thorough and made getting through the class easy as long as you went through his study guides. Also helped edit research papers in office hours- made getting a good grade a no brainer. Heads up-everything graded is written-no multiple choice.
Dr. Bomba was a pretty alright teacher. He definitely knows his material, and he is very helpful if you have a question. Be prepared to study study study though! As for me, who needs some sort of visual to help learn material, it was a bit tough. The class is perfect if you're interested in History and love analyzing the works!
Overall the learning experience was very rewarding. He still is a fairly young professor but, as a Princeton graduate he runs his class as such and his knowledge is superior. Be prepared to to do excessive reading and memorization and to write extremely in-dept essays. Pros: really does care, will always help, and surprisingly good sense of humor:)
The cutest teacher ever! Be prepared to write essays and use memorization. His lectures can be really boring but as long as you read the book, take a few notes, and use his study guides you will do fairly well :)
Prof. Bomba scared me the first week of class. I originally thought he was going to be incredibly difficult but the truth is he just gives a lot of work. It's all very straightforward though. The study guides are useless because he gives 50 things to study when the quiz is really 6 questions. Boring but not that difficult.
The class depended on answering Q`s. His classes mainly explained what the textbook said in a different way, or more in depth, so you really had to read the txt. We only had two quizzes and the midterm and final, and we had two real essays. The first few classes he wants a lot of 'journal entries', or mini quizzes, on the reading.
This man knows how to lecture for sure. Not a difficult class. Just do your essays, weekly readings, and study for each quiz. **Best Tip** Master the study questions he gives you on the study guide and the rest of the quizes/exams are cake.
The 1st week of class I thought it would be a tough class to pass. Honestly if you complete the study guides and read the textbook and complete the assignments (which there aren't many)you'll be ok. I hardly ever attended his class and still got a decent grade. His lectures are VERY boring though.
He's a young and cool teacher, but teaches only using powerpoints. Only class I've ever managed to fall asleep in. Also, the assignments are INCREDIBLY hard. You can be Albert Einstein and barely get a B in this Class.
Really awesome teacher. Uses powerpoints and lectures, he does have a good sense of humor. His classes aren't easy nor are they super hard. If you pay attention, do the work that is asked of you then you will not have a problem. You do NOT want to miss class because of the lectures. HIGHLY recommend his class for 101 & 102.
Mr. Bomba is the most amazing teacher ever! He is very passionate about history. We have a few mini quizzes and two real essays. Also, the study guides are very helpful. If you pay attention and do your work you'll get an easy A.
He was verrrrrry boring but as long as you read you will get an A. just sleep through his class and read material and it will help you out.
Dr. Bomba is very enthusiastic about his work. If you want to learn anhistory he is the go to guy. Very knowledgeable and is passionate about his teachings. Has so much information he wants to share and ends up lecturing for most of the class which is what you see in universities. If you find him boring than you are not college material
Very enjoyable class; enthusiastic teacher, very knowledgeable; involves class with questions; reading text is a must. I absolutely loved this class; I would recommend it. I wish I could have taken his HIS102, as well.
HE'S SOOO BORING!!! Does not make the class interesting.and it's a huge class, so you can get easily distracted
Not a hard class you just need to show up and pay attention. He is engaging and asks the class lots of questions so the only time it is boring is if no one has done any of the reading. He does not ask for a large amount of outside of class reading just about 20 pages or so. The tests and essays are easy if you pay attention in class.
One midterm, one final, three quizzes, two essays. Not a lot of points, so there isn't a cushion you can fall back on. His lectures aren't that interesting, somewhat boring. Does provide study guides.
As long as you do the study guides which are not mandatory you will do great in class. He communicates with the class. I was a c student in high school. got an A in this class. Go to glass and do the readings and you'll get an A. Study primary sources for all quizzes and tests. He helps you a lot in class and is always there in his office hours.
Amazing professor. He gives you all of the information that you will need for quizzes, essays, and exams in his lectures. He includes study guides that are extremely helpful when going through the weekly reading assignments. He is thorough in his teaching and generous with his time to meet with students that need/want help. Would take again.
If you don't do the assigned readings, you have no hope of passing. He's very helpful. His lectures are long but interesting. You can tell he really knows what he's talking about.
Dr. Bomba is a fantastic teacher and I loved his class. He obviously is passionate about what he teaches. His classes are not easy (be prepared for a lot of outside reading and work), but this is college after all. You'll learn a lot. If you need any help outside of class he is willing to provide it. I definitely would take him again.
He says "Ah" a lot, which is super annoying. Other than that, the class was great. The assignments consisted of three quizzes, two essays, a midterm, and a final exam. All of them are pretty straight forward, and he's a an easy grader. I didn't do the reading or study ever, and both my essays were done last minute, but I still got a B.
Great class. History is my worst subject and I was surprised with the grade i got which was a B. I got mainly c's on the two exams & 3 quizzes but aced the finals. He knows what he is talking about which makes the class interesting. Just make sure to involve your self in the class discussion, cause if not you can tell he gets annoyed lol
I didn’t take the weekly reading seriously, I took notes on every word he said. I found this very helpful. He is very professional and a bit boring, but is very knowable on what he says in class. TIP: Even what you may think is the least important may be on quizzes. Read the sources he assigns as well.
Doesnt use powerpoints much except for pictures Lectures If add its hard to focus
You basically have to teach yourself. He makes you read a lot every week and he is a very hard grader. I would NOT recommend him to anyone, I regret taking his class
Lectures are interesting & he picks very good reading. Provides good study guides to go with the reading which he pulls the questions for his quizes and tests from. However he tends to have his own opinions on history so if you have any interpretations of the info that differ expect a lower grade or to be told you are wrong. No xtra credit.
Professor Bomba is very knowledgeable. His lectures are long, his tests and papers can be challenging, and you must study to pass. However, If you like history and a challenge, take this class! He lectures on interesting topics (no Roman columns! no Marie Antoinette!). Don't waste time writing down what's on the power points, write what he says.
I had him for three semesters. He lectures through most of class. There is a lot of reading you have outside of class, especially in 231. He goes over and explains primary sources in class. He willing to read over your rough draft or outline for the essays if you visit . It's impossible to fail on the papers. take good notes
Great professor! Pay attention to whatever he lectures in class, take notes, and you will be fine. His tests are straight forward, but not easy if you do not do the reading he assigned. If you get a bad grade for the first quiz, do better the next ones. He will look at your improvement through your grades to give you a final grade.
He teaches only from ppts and lectures the whole class. there is only 2 tests, some quizzes, and 2 essays. goes over primary sources, which was really helpful for me since I have just gotten out of ESL. He is also always available during office hours. Gave great feedback and read my outline/draft.
Professor Bomba is one of the best professors I have ever had; taking his classes is great preparation for additional academic study. Dr. Bomba is quite knowledgeable and enthusiastic about history, is very well organized, delivers excellent lectures, & runs his Latin America History classes like a graduate school seminars. He is great.
It's a lot of work. A LOT. I would not recommend taking his class if you have a few other hard classes in the same semester because this class is VERY time consuming and it's A LOT of information and research (for the papers). However, I never went during his office hours and still did really well on the test and term paper. Think about it well!
Best professor I've ever had. Incredibly knowledgable and available during office hours to give great feedback. Provides optional study guides which really helped me understand the material and know what to focus on. Do the reading and you will get a lot out of this class. I wish I could take his other classes. Take advantage of his office hours.
Dr. Bomba is an exceptional professor, one of the best I've ever had. Taking his Western Civ class was fun, as Dr. Bomba is very knowledgeable, well organized, delivers focused lectures that are reinforced by slides, course readings, & class Q&As. His comments on papers and exams are insightful and helpful & he makes very good use of Blackboard.
It's a very good class if you're willing to put in the work. If you're going to be lazy, don't bother. He is extremely knowledgeable, organized and expects a lot out of his students. If you don't put in time and effort, you won't be successful.
So much reading every week, so I was basically teaching myself the whole semester. His lectures are long and extremely boring. Tests are based on the readings and primary sources that he will go over in class. Grading policies were confusing and based on his personal opinions.
If you do all of the reading and pay attention in class, you shouldn't have a problem. There were a few quizzes, two essays, a midterm, and a final.
This class requires the student to know the information in depth to pass with an average grade. This class is straight forward and homework is minimal. Only thing to do is read, read, and read. My advice is take down notes in your source reader, it will help you out a bunch. Also answering and defining study guide terms help, and don't slack.
There are assigned readings for every class. All he does is talk about the readings and does some lecturing based on his PowerPoint. He makes you do 3 essays, and a lot of in group class assignments. The midterm and the final are both essays and are only based on the readings. I felt like I really didn't learn much from just reading all semester.
Professor Bomba is great! His class requires a lot of reading, but he dissects the sources in class so if you take notes on what he says, you're golden. Don't copy the slides, listen, he knows his stuff! Only 3 essays, a midterm and final. He gives the midterm topic and possible final questions in advance. I pre wrote my responses and got a B+.
Don't come into this class expecting to memorize dates and figures. In my opinion, he teaches a history class how it should be taught. There are 3 take home essays, and a midterm and final essay. He expects you to be able to understand and analyze the information you learn, which helps you improve your critical and analytical thinking skills.
Prof. Bomba was great!
I would not recommend this professor! Nothing but lectures! The lectures begin 5 minutes before class is supposed to and always end late. Although there are minimal homework assignments and only 4 essays, the long monotonous lectures make class unbearable. Attendance is mandatory so dont try to leave early or come late. he will mark you as absent.
Terrible professor, all he does is talk and talk and talk. Does not engages with student, gives out essays and expects you to earn an A. Hes way of teaching is very strange. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I regret it being in this class. Most boringest class Ive ever taken.
He isnt as bad some people say he is. Sure, his lectures may be for the most part boring, but he does tell you exactly what sources to read to do the essay so you cant say he just gives out essays and expects you to get an A. my first essay had a lot of problems and i still got a B+, so hes not a tough grader at all. The rating is pretty accurate
All i can say is to AVOID his class, believe me you will regret it, it is true that there are no tests the whole semester instead he will make your write 3 essays about 1000 words each. AND ALSO THE FINAL EXAM IS ESSAY AND CLOSED EVERYTHING! BUT the class is super boring, we had about 70 students in the beginning now only 30 shows up!!
I'll be honest with you guys, this professor is the most borings' professor I've ever seen on this entire campus. Believe it or not you will regret taking his class, there are no test but the essays are like 1000 words. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Final exam is based on the book and closed notes. I had I had taken another professor instead of him. Super bad.
Your grade consists of three papers and the final, thats it. Professor Bomba will lecture the entire class time, many time about useless information. The paper's are also vague and take a while to do. Textbooks are necessary, so purchase them.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!! Terrible professor, passes out 3 essays during the semester and they should be 1000 words. He expects you to know everything... Hes lectures are SOOOOOO boring. I remember students showing up to class for first couple of days now no body even shows up. If you want to ruin your GPA go ahead take him! Never will take him!
Prof B makes history fascinating and relates it to the modern day. He doesnt just lecture, he asks questions and gives you group activities. You dont need to do all the reading, he explains it all in class. He gives you two weeks to write papers and helps a lot in office hours. Need to work for an A. Easy B. Take him if going to a 4 yr college.
Very hard to keep up with, while taking his class he would ramble on and on creating it where taking notes was difficult. He would also just tell the stories about things that happened but never talk about how they relate to modern day or what type of an impact that they left on History. It was extremely monotonous and repetitive.
Professor Bomba is a nice guy. He knows a lot about every subject. It is true that he talks a lot and sometimes he has a deep voice, however he just want you to read to understand the class and ask questions. At the end of the semester he just want to help you to improve your grade and pass the class. I recommend him.
As an Ivy league educated "Doctor" He does expect you to work for your grade. I took him online and boy. One of my hardest classes. The exams are textbook everything. If you don't read the text or read it thoroughly you will not pass. Respectable teacher but challenging.
I've always hated history class, but Professor Bomba frames it in a way that is interesting. We spend a solid half of each class analyzing source documents, connecting themes together. Heavy emphasis on the "why". Don't miss the class about Octavius, funniest moment of the semester. Grade is 2 open note exams, 2 take home quizzes, 2 essays.
This teacher is such a tough grader. DONTtake him! The exams are really hard and all depend on the textbook. He does not prepare you for the exam and takes off points for anything. He has such high standards. I was a straight A student until I took his class. I turned in every assignment on time and had an 89% in his class and he still gave me a B
Terrific Professor. The grade consists of 2 open-note online quizzes, 2 open note exams, 2 essays, and attendance. He gives a guide to each to class with key terms that will be on exams and quizzes. Nothing in the exams or quizzes wasnt on the study guide. I emailed him my paper ahead of time and he gave me feedback on how to get an A.
SO Monotone. He knows his stuff, but remains boring throughout. Super specific with what he wants in essays, difficult to get an A.
Excellent professor. He knows the material. I thought that his class was boring, but it was the opposite, It was a entertaining class that made me feel fascinating about history.
Attendance is graded. He makes lectures interesting, but he really just talks the entire class. Be prepared for a few papers, and some open note tests! He is very nice too! Overall great professor I have no complaints.
Very boring at the beginning, gets much better towards the end. Try to take good notes; quizzes and tests are open note, and are rough without good notes. Essays are very boring, but not hard to get a passing grade on. Overall, the course gets the job done, but isn't particularly engaging.
Professor Bomba was a great teacher and could not recommend him more if you like history. Very professional and gave great feedback on essays, not only learned a lot about history but also how to write a good essay.
Hes a chill guy hes real monotone so it can be difficult to pay attention in class after some time. He talks a lot, but hes really passionate about his lessons doesn't really expect you to participate, but make sure you listen you'll do well in the class. I wrote most of my notes on a laptop.
Professor Bomba was amazing! He does require you to read a lot, but after taking his class you will get a good knowledge of western civilization. There were 2 essays (40%), 2 quizzes (10%),attendance(20%)midterm(15%) and a final exam(15%).
One of my favorite professors!!! I love history so thats probably why but hes very knowledgeable and knows his stuff. I got a C on the first essay so I took advantage of his office hours and got As because he gave me great feedback. Test is super easy. Its for sure an easy A class but some kids in class just didnt bother.
The professor is nice! The homework was primarily quizzes and a few papers. Overall a course that is relatively easy to stay on top of. The lectures are a bit long and there is a lot of primary source analysis, but if you pay attention to the lecture then you'll be fine.
Let's you use notes for tests and the final exam. You must take notes for each class and if you can't attend those, he records his lectures. Make sure to read instructions for the essays because he is picky with those.
Professor Bomba was excellent. He made his lectures interesting and I never found myself too bored during them. There is a lot of reading and every couple weeks there would be both an essay and a quiz due on the material covered. I would definitely recommend him.
He gives you lots of work like you don't have anything else to do. As a person who works and has 3 more classes besides his class, literally I just allocated all my free time to his class. He's very hard on assignments, a tough grader, and doesn't give you a chance to improve your grade. If you get B you can't turn it to A under any circumstance!
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS Professor Bomba is the toughest grader I have ever seen in school. I thought I just got a bad grade on papers (C- Avg.) the average grade on all papers was an F! If you want to cheat you cant you have to read everything which is ALOT (100 pgs avg per quiz) there are 3 papers which isn't a lot but the work you have to put in is
This class is not good. The amount of writing you do every week is crazy. He takes off points for the dumbest little things too. There's so much reading and he doesn't give you the page numbers so get ready to spend HOURS going through the book to find what you're looking for. Don't even get me started on the tests.
He's very nice and passionate about what he teaches. There is around 1 or 2 hw assignments a week, the assignments aren't so much as hard but you do have to put some thought into them. Just do the work and you'll be fine!
We only had 3 essays and 3 quizzes, plus the final exam. (which is good) There is a lot of reading. Lectures are long and can get boring but most of the time it's interesting. Quick grader and fair. I would take him again for 102.
Professor Bomba is a knowledgable professor and can teach you a lot if you're willing to put in the work. If you take HIS 101 expect about 4 essays, 5 quizzes, and a ton of reading. Typically he will assign pages to read in the text book and discuss it in class (these discussions are vital to doing well on a paper). He is a hard grader.
I liked him. Timed online quiz at end of topic w/ essay and that's it +Doesn't force you to participate +Really doesn't have much on his presentations but posts them +tough grader but I respect his GR8 feedback alot +Passionate about History+rounds up grade +kinda funny +There is reading but there's no way to tell if u did +gives options 4 no book
Prof Bomba is kind of a strict grader (it depends on the assignment). Can be quite particular when it comes to writing assignments. There's a lot of reading from the textbook as well as a long essay and two Powerpoints projects. I strongly suggest getting a hard copy of the textbook since it's a lot of reading (9th or 10th edition works)
He's a tough grader. That said, he's very picky when it comes to essays. The material he covers is interesting, but he has a monotone, so it can bore you out from time to time. Make sure you listen and take good notes because the questions on the tests are very detailed.
Shy Professor, often stutters (a sign that he is not confident). He doesn't have study guides, he doesn't give sources that we can use for homework like the other teachers and his class is pretty boring because he only reads the slides and doesn't make any comments other than that, he needs more experience as professor.
Professor Bomba is a good professor; he is understanding, easy going, and not to strict. For the class there are 6 quizzes and 4 essays (don't quote me on those numbers but I'm think it's correct), and class met every Friday 11:10 am- 2:10 pm with a 20-minute break around 12:30. The quizzes have no restrictions and are done at home.
Attend class and pay attention! Graded by quizzes, papers, and attendance. Quizzes are taken home and online. Goes over the reading in class so you don't have to read any on your own for the most part. If you attend class and pay attention well you might not even have to take notes. Just make sure to attend class.
One of the best, if not the best, history professors in the field. His passion for history resonates in his voice and will affect you profoundly. Do the work, and pay attention in class; you will succeed in his class. So that you know- he reads your paper and grades them relatively depending on your effort. I highly recommend him!
Not good professor
Professor Bomba was amazing. Attendance is taken through a "word of the day" and is worth 20% of the grade. 40% of the grade is from quizzes taken online, and they're all easy. The other 40% is essays. He's a bit of a tougher grader on essays, but I've learned that you just need to study the class readings and reference them in your essays.
He is a great man.
He's okay. You're only gonna like him if you already know everything about history. If you, like me, know nothing, this class is gonna suck. All he does is talk AT you for the entire class, he does not engage. It's very boring. Definitely don't recommend taking him.
He is a nice prof and will grant extensions and help if you reach out. Otherwise his lectures are just him speaking the whole class, it gets boring really quick. Attendance is graded by a word of the day. Grades papers harsh but also explains what he wants to see in them. Take him if you genuinely want to learn about history.
This class was harder than I expected. There's one assignment due every week but they're long and require a lot of reading from the textbook so expect to spend a lot of time on them. He's very picky on how he grades as he's an Ivy League Alumni.
He was good! Study guides are provided, open note tests, is always open to help, the lectures are entertaining enough (Not much you can do to make lectures fun) and he also gives some reading assignments but they are quite short and easy.
A lot of the tests take from the class discussions we have on source material, so three things are important. Come to class to get background info, participate in discussions, and pay attention to the feedback he gives you on tests. Tests are mainly essay questions, so expect to be writing. Overall, a great professor who is passionate about history
Prof is very passionate and knowledgeable on course material. Every question was answered with engaging content. Classes were very lecture heavy, almost entirely lectures. Every 1-2 weeks there would be group assignments discussing the reading due that week. Tests were based heavily on the reading and often were open notes. All in all a good class.
Really nice Professor, has a dry/deadpan sense of humor but it's funny. Occasional group discussions. Lectures are very interesting and the exams comprise of only 2 essay questions. NO FINAL ESSAY, just another exam. Only HW is reading but he reviews it in class anyway. No reason NOT to take him. Great study guides!
Can only miss 3 classes. No midterm or final. Just exams of writing 2 essay prompts. Can use annotated readings on the exams. ANNOTATE. one group discussion from the reading. exam grades are not given easy. No homework. only readings. Great teacher but wished he would give us more time on the exams. Didn't give any extra credit opportunities.
He is a VERY tough grader. Will take points off for the smallest things. Does accept late work and tests are open note which is very rare with many professors. Assignments are long and sometimes very complicated. Lots of video assignments so if you don't like having to do those I'd skip this teacher.
He is a good teacher, however this class is extremely lecture heavy and theres little to no engagement with the class. If you know everything about history you'll love him. I wish he would do more in group activities so students could interact with one another. It's lecture, readings, essays repeat. Nothing else.
HIS112 not 102, couldn't find the code. Knows what he's talking about and challenges you to think critically. Do the readings before group discussions at the very least and ANNOTATE THEM and you'll survive. Teaching style isn't for everyone, but if you don't mind the heavy lectures, I highly recommend taking him. this abysmal character limit jesus
He's really nice. 3 classes excused-no effect on grade. the final is not cumulative. He give readings for each class the night prior. 1-2 group discussions.10 point extra credit-its a survey. overall would take his again class just read and go to class and you will pass. also really easy to go to office hours. Really easy to pass w/ A.
Great professor, he clearly knows what he's teaching and does a great job in lectures. Be ready to take notes since he doesn't have much written on the slideshow. No homework, but we have to read the book and additional readings. Just a few assessments, and he gives good feedback. Attendance is graded, but we can miss at most 3 classes.
Professor Bomba is awesome! He will explain literally everything you need to know in regards to the current topic and the reading. He's clearly very knowledgeable, I don't know how he just remembers all of this stuff perfectly!! As long as you come to class and take notes you will do well even if you skip or skim the reading :)
hes so chill but a lot of reading , he reviews what he gives us to read. best professor, hes funny too.
