Funny, easy to understand, interesting, tests easy enough. All around good guy.
This is a good one. He knows his stuff and makes it interesting by joking
awesome...open minded and extremely intelligent :)
Easy A in the class...just show up for the lectures and he is funny too.
Great logic professor! Very cool and laid back
Good in class discussions, great professor
Very smart, likable guy. Really enjoys talking with students.
Smart man, knows his stuff but never condescending.
Loved this class... honestly my favorite professor
Cool guy, I got a lot of love for him. Keep doing what you do best.
Awesome Professor, absolutely loved him, explains everything!
Great professor, loved this class, I actually got mad bc he missed class so much
loved his class so much I took another class taught by him the next semester
awesome
Dude is real laid back. His classes are easy, but you learn alot. But yeah he is the most liberal prof I had.
One of the best at UNCC - knows his stuff but is never condescending. Definitely a professor worth taking.
He is a pretty cool teacher but he is sometimes a hard grader on his test.
Very nice guy.Willling to help all he can.I didn't no squat and still got a C.
A great teacher. He isn't always that interesting but he always means well. He is very understanding as well. Very laid back.
Great Prof. Explains well, always willing to help, fun class.
We NEED more professors like him!
He rocks! He is one of the best professors I have ever had. Take one of his classes, you will not regret it
Great teacher!! Very liberal! Very helpful.. don't need to buy the book just take notes would take him again for sure!!
Great teacher! Laid back and informative. Tests are straight forward and from lecture notes.
Great Teacher!! Easy to learn from. Go to class and you will do fine.
the most laid back teacher ever, knows his stuff and exams are easy, good sense of humor, WILL NOT ARGUE WITH YOU (he'll always agree with you which sucks if you like to debate) misses every 3rd or 4th class due to illness
great prof, explains topics clearly, really makes sure students understand info.
Very easy going teacher. We had two exams (midterm and final) plus a final paper that only had to be 5 pages. Even though he's quite liberal, he doesn't care if you're a Republican...grades fair...though he will bash Reagan (our greatest president) often.
Dr.Caste is a great guy, his lectures are always funny, and he's accomodating. Point of warning: just because he has no attendance policy doesn't mean its a good idea to skip. He grades based on 3 tests, and the tests are on the lectures. Don't be lazy!
THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!! School would be a better place with more teachers like him. Try to take as many classes with him as possible, it is sooo much fun!!!
very very good! really easy if you get your butt to class. tests are directly worded from his lectures, so be sure to take good notes. for all you POLS majors, be sure to check out my rating for Ken Godwin incase you're thinking about any of his courses.
Great teacher! Goes out of his way to explain things. Any topic open game in class. Go to class and take notes, its easy.
Very worried about not offending anyone about anything
Very easy going teacher with great sense of humor. Makes you look forward to going to class. He can be a little tough sometimes grading papers but otherwise I would recommend him.
COME TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. MY GRADE WAS A "B" CONSIDERING I ONLY STUDIED THE NIGHT B/F TESTS. IF YOU WANT AN "A" STUDY YOUR NOTES IN DETAIL AND BEABLE TO COMPARE PHILOSOPHERS!!
an easy A if u study hard
Great professor, EASY A. Knows what hes talking about. and he hates BUSH! WHat more could you ask for?
If u sit down and listen to him and take decent notes your good to go. Big on comparisons on the tests. Personally, screwed up on the first test but still pulled a B after the other 2. Love to take him again sometime.
EZA? People get too comfortable when saying this because this really isnt the case. Not hard at all but you must keep up with the thinkers and be able to compare. I got a 88 or so but the 80 on the first test put me behind. Study! and don't go in thinking its a EZA (>30%class=A so not so EZ)
I agree with the post below. Not a hard class at all but study and don't slack off. The last post meant to say (X<30%=A) so the class really isn't a cake walk. Keep up with your work.
he is a nice person but he don't take teaching serious and all you do is talk about dumb stuff in class until close to final . then he want to be serious. he don't grade fair to his teaching skill but if you stay in his face you may get a good grade . good luck
Great professor, really nice guy. Take notes, ask questions, and you'll be fine. Highly recommended for Philosophy majors.
Great professor! His humorous, laid-back style makes for a great classroom atmosphere. He's definitely not the uptight professor type. However, you have to study and take good notes in order to do well.
not a good teacher , don't teach just talk about thing that not about the about the subject. take attendence and lower your grade one letter for more than 4 absent. he a old man m that in misery and don't get laid
He is a very nice man, but tries to trick you on the tests. He also gets very off subject for the majority of the time.
This guy is worthless...he has no teaching skills and cuts A's and B's off at how many he gives out, not if you deserve a grade. dont take him and i hope he gets fired
Class is pretty interesting, but he is not very approachable outside of class. He tries very hard to trick you on tests, and even if you know all of the the material by heart, you can still end up with a lower grade than you deserve.
THIS GUY SUCKS
HE DOES NOT GRADE HARSH, FAIR AND WILL HELP YOU IF YOU COME TO HIM AND HAVE QUESTIONS. SOMETIMES CANCELS CLASS AND LETS YOU GO EARLY, EASY TO UNDERSTAND
Nice professor that makes class enjoyable. Only two tests and one 5-page paper. Reading the assigned books not essential because he goes over the important parts in class.
Dr. caste wants you to pass. He explains the work and ask consistantly if you understand the material. He seems a little shy to help individually, but will take the time to help anyone who asks. I enjoy him as a professor. He is not too dry, he tries to make conversation to connect to his students.
Caste was a great teacher. Very easy going, very realistic, very clear. His teaching style is flawless and very easy to follow.
I can't say enough about Dr. Caste. He is by far the most interesting and "discussion based" professor. Go to class, not just for the grade but because it's worth it each time! Don't really need the books if you go to class, REALLY focuses on writing skills but will let you re-do papers you don't do well on. EXCELLENT PROFESSOR!
He's dull unless he tells a story and it's hard to go to a class where you could just read the book. He's too lazy to grade a paper properly as well- giving you different grades for the same 'mistakes.' And your grade drops a letter for every 3 classes you miss. Pretty harsh, huh? I don't reccommend this lousy professor.
GREAT professor....very laid back, funny, and interesting. I looked forward for this class and thought his humor was refreshing! Highly reccomended:)
Great teacher. Definantly teaches the philosophers you need to know. Generally relates stuff to real life scenarios which proves to be very helpful on the exams. Attendance is a must though which was my downfall.
One of the best professors ever. Explains everything very well and doesn't require you to go to class. Tests are very easy and based on homeworks.
Really cool, laid back, and funny. I took him for Pol. Philosophy. The class was a breeze for me only because I already knew half the material. Everything covered on the test comes from notes in class and he only takes five quotes directly from the text. Grading is only three mutiple choice test. The class was very easy. Take him!
He is GREAT!! Very liberal - if you're conservative maybe you should steer clear. He doesn't have an attendance policy. His tests are kind of hard, you have to show up and take notes. He's hilarious and starts great debates. Definitely take him!!
He was the best. We had awesome discussions about random things. Since it was during election period, we talked about Hillary and Obama and their issues.
he graded pretty tough considering the lightheartedness of the class. i definitely expected an A and totally thrown off with a C! no book, and reading from internet is simple. hopefully he's figured out how to use blackboard by now.
Professor Caste is amazing. If you want an easy A and dont mind volunteering take this class. He is very liberal and fun
AWESOME PROFESSOR. The rumors are true though, he is extremely liberal. He is political science learning community instructor. There were only 4 people in the class and I was the only conservative. We had awesome debates and I loved every minute of it, even though I was out numbered 4 to 1.
Good professor. We literally spent maybe 6 classes total going over information. The rest of the class we talked politics. Gave easy assignments, just show up for class and its an easy A, EXTREMELY easy A for a LBST.
Caste is awesome! I took him for citizenship and am taking him for political philosophy. He is extremely liberal and I am extremly conservative. However, he is always willing to help. Show up to class, take notes, study the notes and you'll get an A. Plan on taking him again for the 3rd time next semester.
Caste is a sad excuse for a professor. Rambles on in class about his love for Obama...does not teach. Reads a few points from his notes, lets others dominate class with stupid rants. Tests are straight from class lectures and are usually obscure "trivia" questions rather than anything of substance. This class will ruin your GPA. Avoid!!
Dr. Caste is wonderful professor. I'm taking him for Intro to Political Philosophy. Although he may get of topic alot he has a great since of humor and his personality makes a boring subject interesting. Just go to class and take good notes, and you'll make an A. Take him!
Cant believe this guy is allowed to "teach." Spends maybe 15-25% of class on topic while the rest is nonsensical BS, often about him dropping acid. Despite the uselessness of actually attending class he STRICTLY enforces his attendance policy. Learned NOTHING in his class, B on midterm, B+ on final, C in class for missing 1 day beyond the 4 allowed
Do not buy textbook, it's not used. Dr. Caste spoon feeds the information to the student. Attend class, take notes, and any student can get an A. He is very relaxed, typically ends class early and makes political phil easy to understand.
Do not buy textbook, it's not used. Dr. Caste spoon feeds the information to the student. Attend class, take notes, and any student can get an A. He is very relaxed, typically ends class early and makes political phil easy to understand.
The summer class was very easy. There is only one 2 page essay a week. There is also a 5-7 page paper for the misdterm and final. All the papers are doubled spaced. He is a very easy grader.
Caste is a fun teacher. His mind wanders about as much as mine does, and that means he talks about enough varied stuff to keep me interested. His tests aren't easy, but they aren't that hard. You need to have a decent knowledge of the subject. Had him for Political Philsophy.
He's great! Very funny...kind of random, but still an awesome prof. This course requires that we do 25 hours of community service, but other than that and 2 papers, we just have class discussions, read our book, and watch movies. Take him!!
He provides excellent lecture notes ... he is a tough grader on weekly writing assignments.
One of the most organized professors I've had yet. Strictly lecture, but he's incredibly easy to follow and very detailed. Attendance is not mandatory, but you miss a lot if you don't go. The text is extremely hard to follow, so you need his explanations. Three multiple choice tests. They can be very difficult. Has quotes, so read the text.
Class is one big lecture. He talks the whole time. He knows what he is talking about and if you are interested in the subject it is probably an interesting class. You need to go to class to get the notes because the textbook is just samples of the philosophers notes not what they actually thought and such. 3 tests make up your whole grade 33% each
My favorite professor and class at UNCC by far. He is very funny and genuinely cares about the students. Our class was purely discussion amongst the students and Caste. It definitely shows you a different way of thinking. Great class, everyone should take it!
Take him!!!Take him!!!Take him!!!Take him!!!Take him!!!Take him!!!Take him!!!Take him!!!Take him!!! Very easy...we watched movies, had funny discussions, wrote papers..and did volunteer hours and you get to miss a whole month of the semester to do your volunteer hours for his class!! This class fills up quickly, take him, no regrets!
He is AAAWESOME!!!! Take him for sure sure sure if you can! I took him as a short session summer class and I loved it! very great on grading. He seems to trully care about his students. Strongly strongly recommend! One of the nicest teachers I ever had (and I had quite a few, believe me =)
Dr.Caste is an average professor. He is well versed in the political philosophy and has a respectable teaching method. Go to class. You will not succeed if you miss class. The exams are slightly trick though. For those sensitive to it, Dr.Caste is a solid liberal- not moderate and not extreme.
Take him if you can!!!! He is truly awesome. Easy on grading. Took him as summer short session class, the load was very bearable, compared to other semesters. Now getting ready to take another class that he is teaching! Strongly recommend!!!
Dr. Caste is an awesome professor. Explains the topics well. Attend class if you want to do well because a majority of the tests are his lectures. Textbook is recommended. He is a hardcore Obama supporter! :) Interacts well with students, you can tell he likes his job. Highly recommended.
Good professor,if you walk away remembering nothing content wise from the class, you'll walk away from the class with two "facts:" 1. Obama is Awesome and 2. Budweiser is not real beer. lol
his tests are worthless and when you go to his class its like someone shoving knives in your head BORING!! he is funny at times, but his exams are not easy don't listen to people who say he is easy because he is not I made that mistake and received a low grade after attending ALL the classes and studying the useless reviews he gave before the test.
Dr. Caste's class was a required course for Political Science majors. The course load is very comparable to the level course. Tough grader on papers and essays. I should have paid more attention to details to get the A I wanted.
Seems ancient but is fairly well learned on current events and often relates these to the topics learned. Usually says at least one or two things per class that gets a good laugh. Tests are a little tricky and you need to know what he'll be looking for but other than that they are fair. Would take another class taught by him.
By far the dumbest class ever. Can't believe I actually payed for it. He loves to hear himself talk. Class was made up of 3 papers in which he is never clear on what he wants. There are also discussions about topics "related to citizenship". But don't worry, you don't have to do any research at all and can say anything without any providing facts!
Very knowledgeable about the material. He can be funny at times as well. The tests can be a little tricky; I studied hard for each test and only managed a B. But he is really fair and a laid back person.Overall, a pretty easy class, if you read the textbook and listen to the lecture.
Good professor overall.
Lectures are crucial. While attendance isn't mandatory, be wary of skipping. The tests are made up of lecture questions. He's not a good test makergrader. Each test will contain several questions which he forgets what he said in class and then argues why 20 of us who wrote it down are wrong.
This class is painful to sit through. The way he words his tests makes it really confusing. He tries to crack jokes but they're not really funny. His class is required for poli sci majors so there's no way to avoid it. Definitely will not take again.
Easy A for my class. All 3 exams were online and no more than 15 questions. You do not have to read anything. You can Google all answers while taking the exam, One essay for the whole course. I used large blocks of quotes and received an A.
Very nice guy. Just write down everything hee says and you should be OK
An interesting subject, but the online class was not the best teaching format. The professor did not put up a grading guideline initially for the first paper and ambiguity is not good with a class which also ask the student for a creative response. Not the best experience I have had with an instructor regarding communication.
Class is required for political science majors, but the material can be interesting at times. Caste is a very boring lecturer and found myself fighting for consciousness constantly. Attendance is not required as long as you read the text. Show up on the review and test days and you should be able to pass this class with at least a B.
Super nice guy and pretty funny at times. Bring a laptop or something so you can write down everything he says quickly (he doesn't use PowerPoint) and also have a distraction if you get bored (which you likely will). His tests have a surprising amount of detail so it's tricky to get an A, but you'll definitely pass them if you study.
Basically he wrote his own textbook and wants you to buy it. You could pass the class without the textbook and just read his lectures carefully. The only time you need the textbook is the essay exam where you might want to quote from it. Other than that exams are online so open note and open book.
Took his online summer class, very easy and learned a lot. A very good professor and an easy A. You have to buy the book, but overall an easy A.
took his online summer class. lots of papers but he loves quotes so take advantage of that. barely got an A but he noticed I was really close and helped me out. very caring!! highly recommend
Dr. Caste is the most caring and kind hearted teacher I have ever encountered. He genuinely cares about each student and their mental health. Somewhat flexible on deadlines if you let him know your situation ahead of time. I wish all of my teachers were like him. I cant give this man a high enough rating.
There is a lot of reading to be done in this online class. The class consisted of four discussion posts, 3 thought papers (2-3 pages), and 2 Essay Exams (5-7 pages). I learned quickly that he likes a lot of quotes so make sure you do the actual reading of the philosophers and not just his lectures. Pretty decent class and finished with an A.
Such a hard grader. Counted off points for little things and would deduct points for aspects that were not even in the rubric. Very intelligent man, but it often felt like he used his wisdom against his students. He grades so that everything comes to equal 100 points, so any points you lose on your assignments you lose off of your final grade. Hard
Professor Caste is AMAZING! I had him SS 1 as a visiting inc. 1st yr from UNC Chapel Hill. The course is ONLINE and graded with ESSAYS only! 4 disc forums (2-3 paragraphs), 3 thought papers (3-4), 2 essay exams (5-7). He is a great professor and I respect him! Amazing feedback and GUIDANCE! Got the highest grade in the class---98.2! MUST TAKE!
Dr. Caste offers really great courses, most are paper-heavy (3 short 3-4 page papers) (2 long 6-7 page papers). The information he provides for the course is phenomenal and the readings are interesting and easy to get through. Dr. Caste is a really understanding person who listens to his students and is always easily accessible.
Professor Caste was one of the better professors Ive had the pleasure of knowing. The grades rely heavily on papers, but the topics are easy enough and the book is super helpful because he offers explanations of the material before the writings. Very kind grader.
Professor Caste is amazing. This online class was set up so you only had to write papers, no exams. The final was a 5-7 page paper. He gives all the information needed to write it and as long as you answer the writing prompt and back up your responses, you'll do good. He also gives very good feedback so you know what to fix next time.
Dr. Caste has to be one of the top 3 professors at UNCC. He really knows what he's talking about. There are only 12 assignments in the course and about 4 are just discussion post. If you need someone to actually guide you through readings do not take this class as the only teaching is a 5 page summary on the philosopher. After that your on your own
I took this class as an elective & I'm incredibly glad I did. I loved reading about the different philosophers that have influenced American politics. Dr. Caste gives clear feedback on papers about what he does and does not like, and is a relatively easy grader. If you have any questions about your grades, he is easy to get in touch with.
Professor Caste is a perfect professor for students who love online courses and have great time management skills. You read up on one (sometimes two) philosophers per week through the textbook and his lecture which is in the form of a written paper. One of the best things about this professor is his writing. Its SIMPLE and EASY to understand.
Writing intensive course, you read chapters weekly and write 6-8 essays throughout the course. Grades depend on how your writing is and fluctuated from low C's to high A's per essay. Ended the class with a low B (84.3), did the extra credit, and brought my grade up to 90.3. DO EXTRA CREDIT!! It helped so much. A great class to take asynchronous.
Really nice professor, gives good feedback, grade is determined by a lot of written things.
Caste is amazing, even in an online class. His feedback is always great, he leaves specific comments on where you had issues, but he also leaves compliments which are super nice. His deadlines and instructions are always very clear, his lectures are informational. He is a bit of a tough grader, but stick to his guidelines and you'll succeed.
Dr. Caste is an amazing teacher, even online. He's very sweet and gives very helpful and kind feedback. You do have to keep up with your readings to be able to keep up with your papers, but he never assigns too much at once. He's a great teacher, I've had him before, this is my second time with him, and I'd take him a third time.
Dr. Caste is genuinely one of the best professors I've had. Class is super book heavy, but all of the material you read is relevant to the assignments and you will use it for the 3 papers and discussions. He is willing to work with you on deadlines as long as you communicate with him in advance.
seems like a super nice guy (I took it online), grades were 4 discussion posts and four 5-7 page double-spaced essays. he unfortunately makes you pay for his textbook which was like 80 bucks but if you read the readings thoroughly you should be fine.
he responds fast in emails and he gives feedback in assignments, for the last essay assignment he did let me rewrite to get a better grade which was nice of him. The class is made up of 4 discussion post and 4 essay posts which the prompts were pretty easy, i didn't really buy the textbook he said to get and i did pretty good in his class
He's a pretty good professor. In the middle of the semester he graded my essay wrong not giving me credit for the quote requirement. I emailed him and he fixed it. There is some confusion on his end when it comes to the wording of essays. I recommend making the essay clear without uncommon vocabulary.
Although this class was very enjoyable and breezy at times, towards the end of the semester it felt like I was having to write a 7-page paper every two weeks. At the beginning of the semester, there were easy discussion posts with essays mixed in, but at the end of the semester, it felt like I was doing nothing but papers for this class.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. when I took him for the first time I just knew I had to take anothr one of his classes again. if you cant write a paper (come on now..) then suck it up because he has to be the easiest grader i've ever had. I love this old man. he is so caring and accommodating if you need an extension. I LOVE HIM SO BAD DRCASTE IF U SEE THIS
The class was extremely boring, however, it was super easy with very few DB and 3 papers. He was very generous with his policies and overall I would take him again.
He's a great professor. I recommend to meet with him outside of class. I got B's on my first two papers. When we met he gave me clear feedback, and even bumped my grade after going through my paper again. He told me what he looks for (specific details and evidence). Read + meet and you'll do well. Got a 100 on my last paper and finished with a 94.
Prof. Caste's class is well-structured, with clear instructions and helpful feedback. The workload is manageable, and Unstuck ai proved a valuable tool for exam prep. Overall, a rewarding experience for motivated students.
I love him! I took him in Fall 2024 and I'm taking him again for Sring 2025 and hopefully, it goes well. I passed his class with a high A and he was willing to talk with me if I ever needed any help. He is super sweet.
I have taken Dr. Caste before. Super easy. Read the assigned readings or you will fail the essays. Easy grader. He uses an AI detector and it will flag you even if you did not use AI. Make sure to contact him if this happens and he will look it back over for you. This happened to me and he fixed my grade on the assigned from an F to an A.
Dr. Caste is a wonderful teacher and gives great feedback on papers. Although you are graded by a few things, (3 papers and 3-4 short discussions) the class is fairly easy to pass. You are required to read a textbook, but he has online lecture notes that are very helpful when you can't/don't understand the wording in the textbook. Very respectful!
Professor Caste was a very easy and laidback teacher. Lenient when it came to extensions and his grading wasn't harsh. Very kind and understanding. I would 100% take another class of his and I have already taken two.
He really encourages students to think analytically and morally about the people and issues we studied. A really decent man.
This professor is amazing he is really understanding and if you need an extension all he wants is honesty like if your burnt out from school or personal stuff. There were discussions they were not bad at all and a total of 3 6-7 page essays but you are given plenty of time to finish. Great grading
