He is a great professor, he is very clear and if you don't understand just ask and he will be more then willing to help you. I attended every class and studied and did great in his class. I reccommend him if you wanna have a good understanding teacher.
The textbook is required if you want to do well, he is very thorough with his teaching. He seems a bit rushed when trying to accomplish everything. Overall great and fair teacher.
Very helpful. Graded on tests and quizzes only. Must do homework to do well on them. Can answer any question you may have. Writes all notes on projector and uploads on D2L in case you miss anything. Even made youtube videos for sections we had a hard time with. Would recommend him to anyone. Taking MAT1150 with him this fall.
One of the best math teachers I have had. He puts all the notes D2L so if you miss a class you will have all the notes available to you. I attended every class and did all the suggested homework problems. You MUST do these in order to succeed, there are things he doesn't cover in class that may be testable. I would take his class again.
The best teacher that OCC has , at least in the Math Department. Very easy as long as you study and more than fair in grading too! Take Him!
He is a very good teacher. I didn't put 5 for easiness because he is not easy because the material is hard. However, he is a great teacher, I go to OCC just to take his class, the rest at my university. Step by step kind of teacher, clear, and know his stuff. And you can tell he has passion for math. 10/10!
Great teacher!! Really helpful & clear. Gives visual examples when explains which makes understanding difficult concepts, like related rates, a lot easier. Sometimes gives extra credit on tests. very fair & gives a lot of partial credit on tests. Gives weekly quizzes which helps in keeping on track with the material & homework. lots of worksheets.
I would highly recommend taking any math course with this instructor! He was very helpful and genuinely wants his students to understand the material. The tests may be a bit tricky, but fair, and as long as you do the homework and understand the material you will do great!
Professor Conti was very helpful in every class and always open to questions. He cares about his students and does whatever it takes to help everyone get the grade they want IF you want to put the work in. I highly recommend him!
This is by far the WORST professor I have ever taken. His test are absolutely nothing we learn in class and he even admits that he makes them harder than everything we learn.Studied an hour every day with him, the tutor and by myself and still had to drop the class. If u want to pass, I would not recommend him. He's a nice guy but a very tough prof
If youre not the best at math take him. Very clear. Nice personality. Easy going. Tests can be hard but not too bad. I want to take him again! for sure try to take him!!
Conti is AMAZING. I was terrified to take math and I couldn't have asked for a better prof. He is VERY helpful, kind, & really explains the information so it's easy to understand. He uses step-by-step notes & uploads them all on d2l. Lowest 2 quizzes are dropped along with 2 lowest HW assignments. DEFINITELY take him.
Conti is a really great teacher! He is very clear with how he explains the material.. He breaks down each problem and makes sure everyone understands it. Not tooo much homework but some.
Professor Conti was a very average math teacher for me. I am very good at math, yet I found his class to be very challenging. He is a very nice guy, but I felt that he would rush lectures just to get through material without thoroughly explaining concepts sometimes. Average teacher, not sure if I would take him again.
Mr. Conti is one of the best Math teachers Orchard Ridge has. You guys must understand calculus is not an easy subject and if your not ready to do the work you wont pass. One advice i can give you to prepare for his exams is to do all the harder problems from the book. Study his notes and do the hard hw problems and you will get a good grade.
Loved him. Very clear, notes were great, nice guy. Posted notes online. He made me love math (until i took college alg with diff prof). Very easy going class, got an A by doing the work. I highly recommend him.
Excellent professor and expect a homework quiz (Easy A if you do your homework) or regular quiz everyday (only a few questions though)
Great teacher, good course.
I wish I could take all my math classes with him. Phenomenal. Attending class is worth it, but if you miss he posts the best notes I've ever seen from a professor. Very clear, prepares you for the tests & quizzes, no surprises. Tests can be difficult if you don't practice with the hw problems. I'm struggling to follow a new professor and his notes.
Assigns a lot of homework every night. On the first day of class he say she expects everyone to put in around 12-20 hours of work a week which is unreasonable. No matter how hard I studied I still failed. He makes the problems on the quizzes and tests harder than any problem for the homework.
Awesome instructor. Mr. Conti learns your name quickly, no student is just a number to him. He assigns a lot of homework and if you do it you will most likely excel. He is not condescending and is respectful of all questions asked. This man obviously has a passion for teaching and will work hard to help anyone who needs extra assistance.
he was my first math professor and probably the best i've ever had he is such a nice person and is always there for students i had him for math 1050 and it was an easy A he gives a lot of quizzes but they are so easy and if you do your homework you will definitely pass the class. lectures are so good and he explains everything so clear. hes amazing
Great teacher but great set up, but when you're struggling in class or if you're borderline, good luck.
Of all the calculus classes I've taken, I enjoyed Conti's the most. He was very clear, he addressed materials based on the feedback he received from the students. Print out the notes and just fill them in. Also do the practice problems.
Mr. Conti is good and he will drop your two lost quiz scores and he will replace your lowest test score with the final. there is not doubt in my mind that you wont fail if you do the homework and practice.
He is extremely approachable and kind, which is great because although his lectures are good, he sometimes does not teach certain things that tend to be on the test. Basically if you put in the effort and visit him in his office hours, you will be successful.
He is the best professor I've ever seen. He's very nice and he makes you feel like he's always ready for help! Just talk to him after class or pass by his office. I'm taking elementary with him and his lectures are so clear. But tests are kinda hard if you don't do the hw. It's important to practice.. he's so respectful and I totally recommend him.
He is a very nice teacher but in my opinion, i did not learn a lot from him. I did all the homework and I feel like there is stuff that he does not teach that occur in the problems. I am taking elementary with him and I feel like each problem has a completely different method of solving. He also got annoyed when I asked him for help which was rude.
If you are good in math and you can help yourself understand something outside of class then you are fine. But if you are looking for a teacher that will spend extra time to teach you, you do not want to be his class. He doesn't cover all material he expecte you to do a lot of learning on your own. Long tests, extremely long Final.
Mr. Conti is a really good instructor and very caring towards his students. The only problem I had was he would give examples in his notes on how to do very basic problems, but the homework and tests had problems that were twice as difficult as his examples. Made it hard to study and hard to tell if the easier or harder problems would be on tests.
Clear lectures. Receptive to questions from students. Not an easy A. I had to do lots of homework to keep up, but it paid off!
I liked everything about this course! the instructor was great! be ready to do homework and ask lots of questions
You have to teach yourself from the book because he barely teaches. Rushes along in lecture but always stops for questions. Tons of homework to do on top of taking your own notes from the book. Most test questions are not from the book, except word problems. Hard but not impossible. Would not recommend.
Even doing the suggested practice problems didn't help me. I understood everything on the homework and on quizzes but he steps it up a few levels of difficulty for the tests. Be ready to get a tutor.
He's always ready to answer questions. Helpful, but not easy.
Mr. Conti is a nice instructor and is willing to answer questions during and after class. The only problem is that his class is based upon 8 quizzes, 5 tests, and the final exam (THAT IS ALL, NO EXTRA CREDIT). Also, be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the material because Conti DOES NOT go over much information in class.
Points come from tests and quizzes, no other way to earn credit. Willing to offer help, but if you have poor math skills you're going to need a tutor. Moves very fast in lectures and does not actually teach the material so much as go over what you learn yourself. Not willing to allow for special circumstances even if he indicates that he will.
The only points you get come from tests and quizzes. To make it worse, he doesn't give half credit so if you get the entire question right but forget a small part of it like a negative sign or there is a silly mistake, the entire question is wrong, which is often 8 points. That really adds up making it very hard to get good scores on tests.
Conti is a good teacher. There are many tests and quizzes, but if you study and ask questions than you will for sure pass. I went to his office hours almost twice a week and asked him a million questions and he would explain until i understood. The tests are based off the hw & he posts the notes on D2L. Put in the effort and you'll pass.
if you have always sucked at math like me, you need to take Professor Conti. He doesnt make anything more complicated than it needs to be and doesnt fly through the problems. Only down side is that his class doesnt offer any extra credit so you need to do well on exams and quizzes to pass
he is a good teacher, I had him for mat1100 glad i took him again. he is always willing to help hard working students. just be careful with the tests, 2 quizzes drop, and if you pass you final, you final grade will replaced with your lowest test score, overall great teacher.
Alot of people in the class that I was in dropped, but honestly it wasnt that hard, you just have to make sure that you study big time and always know when youre going to have a quiz or a test cause you will have one each week.
I needed to retake this course, so I was recommended Conti. Excellent professor! Like many of the comments, yes he does not give partial credit on exams. Many fail to mention that there are retakes and if you get the question correct you get half of the points back. This is for your benefit! It made me a much stronger math student.
Professor Conti has to be the best math professor iv ever had. I enjoyed coming to every class. The tests are easy if you study the homework. He wants you to pass. He's funny and inspirational. and loves to hear your questions.
Definitely overwhelming class! The course itself is hard and if youre looking for an easy A, its not here. In my opinion, too many exams(6 including final) and quizzes(8), but some people prefer it that way. Quizzes arent too bad and the exams are deff a step up from the the quiz. Overall, great guy, he is willing to answer questions and help.
Conti is the best. He's a great professor but you gotta put in the work. If you do the homework and ask questions and go to office hours I promise you'll be fine. The material is already hard itself so try not to miss lectures and study, study, study. Tests and quizzes are based off the homework. Overall one of my favorite professors.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR CALC II. I repeat, DO NOT. He assigns SO many problems from the book and only 10 will be on the exam. No study guide to help students out (to lead them toward the right directions for what problems to study. Also his class is so draining sometimes there's a quiz and exam the same week. Overall, 8 quizzes and 6 exams.
The material is difficult itself, and Conti did well with explaining material when he had pre-written notes for lecture; however, when we would ask him a homework question that he was not prepared for, he made many silly mistakes and incorrectly solved the problem that often confused the class more than helped us. Great person though.
I think Mr. Conti is the best math teacher at OCC, the class is not easy but he does give you a solid opportunity to succeed.
Mr Contis classes are very straight forward. I have taken every math class from elementary algebra to currently in Calc 1 with him. Homework is not graded but highly reccomended if you want to do well. He drops your lowest exam with your final exam if it is higher. Grading is based on 60 percent exams 20 percent quizzes and 20 percent final exam.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS he gives you 100 problems to do and puts 5 on them on the quiz and 12 on the test. This class is not worth it!! choose a different teacher
Study you pass. Grades based on test and quizzes only final replaces lowest test grade 2 lowest quizzes get dropped. available for help always answers questions doesnt over load lectures. Hw isnt for points. does have hw from book I just googled extra problems so book isnt needed really. Told him it was my lastmath class he made sure to pass me
Calc 1 is EASY. He is a great professor. Take your time for exams, because silly mistakes will cause you ALOT of points. Make sure to ace all the quizzes, super easy, and tests are very similar. DO HW. that is your best way to understand it. I took this class with no very little pre calc history and got a B +. I went from a D to a B+ b/c of final.
The professor is well respected and always available at office hours but the texts are extremely long and the time is not enough. I could never finish an exam!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Iam *okay* at math and have A's in every single class except his. I'm dropping simply because he assigns 60 problems A CLASS. You will be doing 120+ questions a week and his tests are SO HARD. Forget one simple negative and your entire question is WRONG. -8 points even if your work is RIGHT. What a joke of a class.
Best math teacher I've had. Super clear, answers questions. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
This teacher is very respectful and listens to your questions. However, his exams are very difficult you have to do all 8-10 hours of homework and additional practice/tutors to really do well in the class. Hes ok but look at other options if you have the chance, quizzes are every week.
He is a good prof. He knows how to explain and teach the material well. All home work is online. Your whole grade is based off of tests and the final. Quiz and homework are worth the same amount basically. He drops your lowest quiz grade which is nice. Fairly simple to follow along but you have to show up to class.
By far the best math professor there is. He is super nice and always willing to help students out. The class has a ton of extra material to help you study and get a good grade.
Was a great online only instructor. The videos are clear and easy to understand and the coursework was all available beforehand and just unlocked as the weeks progressed
Probably one of the best professors at OCC.
Ive taken the online class and we only had one zoom call out of the whole semester. The video lectures were pretty clear. Loads of homework due at the end of every week so be prepared for that.
Best math class I've ever taken! There was a lot of homework, but he explained everything super clearly. He goes over all questions on Zoom and email. Zoom is mandatory because there are Excel assignments that he goes over. Awesome guy, definitely take this class!
Mr. Conti is awesome. I am taking the course online due to COVID. Had it been in person, the opportunity to learn wouldve been much greater. My favorite part is how he grades. On the tests, you get 5 attempts to get it right (online only) which really make you want to try to understand instead of discouraging you. Very helpful in office hours/zoom
Video lectures are very vocab heavy which was confusing to me. Final- 40% of your grade, midterm -25%. This was stressful. HW you get 15 chances each problem to get them right on Cengage, plus he also assigns written hw. But overall he's a very nice prof and very accommodating, it just wasn't my preferred learning style for math :) Check Youtube
Horrible professor! I am in his class right now and he expects you to know a huge amount of cal before taking his class. Hardly teaches and teaches by videos. This professor is so lazy and you can clearly tell. When signing up for his class, it says online/remote. Looks can be deceiving my friend. Don't take this professor!
Stay away! His exams are hard and he gives loads of work.
I took this class along with a few quick paced classes a few semesters back. I'm not joking when I'm saying studying for this class and getting through all the videos took more time than all of my other classes COMBINED. Very overwhelming and confusing class, definitely do not recommend taking this professor unfortunately.
Conti is so hard! His online class is so much work and expects so much out of online classes. His videos do not teach the content on exams and is really hard to follow. Avoid this class if you can!
A really great professor for any intro level math classes. I would only take him if you are able to take him in person though, as I did not like his online 1540 class.
I usually struggle in math, but I really did way better than expected and I'm happy with how well I did.
Avoid this professor completely. Online class is so much work and the exams are not similar to what he covers. Find someone else for Calc.
He is a good teacher, but he assigns lots of homework. Personally, he was good one-on-one but the overall class structure was a lot to manage. He is also very strict when it comes to his syllabus and doesn't care to make any exceptions. Late work is also never accepted. Nice guy but I would not take another class with him again.
He's a nice guy, but his curriculum is horrible. Prepare to be confused and frustrated. The first example of his notes will match your homework, then the problem difficulty ramps up to 11 and you have no notes on how to handle curveballs. He just gives you the basics and expects you to figure it out. 4 credit course? More like a 9 credit course.
His class is so much work and exams are much harder than examples done in class. Find someone else for Calc!!
Completes the easy problems in class and asks the hardest questions on the exams. Exams do not line up with the material. DO NOT TAKE HIM!! Class is more work than is necessary.
All around, Conti is the best professor I've ever had, hands down. First professor I've had at OCC, years later still holds up. Knowledgeable, organized, communicative, responsive, and caring. He recognizes mistakes and listens. Math is always hard, but if you put in the time and effort, you will excel. Grades will reflect your actual knowledge.
If you can avoid him-do so. We had two proctored exams which are 60% of your final grade. That would be OK, if we had less homework. The problems on the exam are nothing like the homework I did- trust me. Even with 2 tutoring sessions each week- I almost failed the class, and I used to like math. So many students dropped this course also!
tests determine everything and there is no make ups.
This is the worst teacher I have ever taken at OCC. A majority of your grade is the 2 tests in class. The tests are super difficult and he does not prep you for them. He will put challenging questions on test that are not on the homework. He assigns at least a hundred problems of homework a week.
Professor Conti was wonderful! I haven't had a math class in a long time and I have learning disabilities and I was able to excel in his class. His lectures are straightforward and he will meet with you if you need his help. I liked being able to re-watch the recorded lectures. There is a lot of work but that is just the nature of learning math.
I had this professor for 1150 and decided I'd take his class again because I aced the last class. I completely forgot that he gives the most homework I have ever been given for a class. That, and the midterm/finals are pretty hard and it feels near impossible to study for them properly. I suggest another prof if you can find one for 1540.
I previously took a class with Conti and did fairly well so I decided I'd take a class with him again for my next math credit. I did well before so I figured I'd be fine. I completely failed to remember just how much homework he gives. There's also no extra credit and the 2 exams given are worth 20-30 percent. He's nice, but it's a tough class.
He will help you if you ask. Work load is about one math page per day for 5 days one quiz per week. If you are learning you should practice daily anyway. Exams were only on covered material, no surprises. He wants his students to understand not just calculate. The workbook authors help math make sense. Generous with GPA grading. A helpful Prof.
Nice guy I believe but the online intermediate algebra course was hard lots of homework not worth a lot of points will not bring your grade up. Tests in person keep in mind if you live far. This class is challenging , stressful & draining. Lots of lecture videos and material to remember Your better off finding a different teacher
Professor Conti was great! I choked a little bit on both exams, I knew the math but got into my head too much. Conti met with me after my first exam and was encouraging. This was a difficult class but I am glad it was with Conti. Keep in mind, math classes demand a lot of effort. I really like being able to re-watch lectures.
He is nice, but nice does not produce quality professors. He will grade and teach like it's a level 500 class. He will not give you ANY answer keys even after doing a test or homework so it makes it harder on what's right, your entire grade revolves around a midterm and exam. Even if your desperate for a certain class, please do NOT take him.
I really liked this teacher. He sent out lecture videos that were very easy to follow and useful to go back to. The homework wasn't horrible and was always related to what was in the lecture. This teacher gives plenty of resources in notes, textbooks readings, and extra problems that are not due but are useful when studying for the exam.
The lecture videos needed to be fixed with the correct information to not confuse students. Never receive any tests back outside of score. When asked to see test, only able to see it with them at their office hours during the middle of a work day and no effort to provide extra availability outside of this. Lazy Professor who will not change exams.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. I had a 4.2 in hs & after 12th grade I wanted to get calc done. I did learn a significant amount of calc but his midterm and final were not even close to what we were told to learn. I easily completed other large schools practice exams (which he doesn't provide). He doesn't curve at all. He is slow responding to emails. BAD
Very clear lectures. Well organized. Lots of homework, but can learn a lot if you put the time in.
Don't expect good feedback on assignments from him. Tests are on a DIFFERENT level than the given work. DO NOT TAKE his class unless you need to.
Nice guy. A lot of people dropped this class. Assigns so much homework, tests are tough. I had 6hrs of his class a week, and he expected 12hrs of hw outside learning. A little fast, hard to keep up. Would do well if you're naturally good at math and have a ton of time. But if you're someone like me and struggle, I would suggest avoiding this class.
very hard course. online and written hw is given weekly which was fine. but the exams were impossible. 2 of them make up most of your grade. final had a calc and no calc portion and i had no idea lol. wouldn't recommend if you're not already good at math.
Only professor I can pass a math class with. I failed my midterm and met with Professor Conti to go over where I went wrong and ended up passing the class with a C by the time finals were over. Basically do your homework, show up for the tests, and put in a good effort and you will succeed.
Professor Conti is a good professor. He explains the material very well and provides guided lecture notes. Online calculus can be very hard. The written assignments may be challenging because they really test your ability to apply what you've learned. Either he or the textbook loves absolute values. Test heavy- midterm 25% and final 35%. No EC.
Lots of lectures but they're short & the information presented is clear/concise. Prof. Conti is quick to respond with any questions & is very helpful. Exams are brutal if you are not great at math or slow at working through it. I ran out of time on the final. If you get lost at any point, get help/tutoring ASAP- you're going to need it to pass.
He was an awesome professor, but there was always a lot of homework. If you aren't too strong in math, be prepared to study! Online was super organized though regardless of that!
Took this class online, and while lectures were nice and covered definitions and conceptual work, the assignments and tests were 100x harder. Most of your grade is a midterm and final, which are heinously hard unless you're Issac Newton. This guy treats an intro calc class at community college like a level 500 class at T10 schools. Do not take.
Decent lectures that are accessible, which I like... BRUTAL exams that are nearly impossible to study for and worth a combined 60% of your grade. With so much content in a 12-week class, no study guides made attempting to study extremely overwhelming. Exams are unlike HW, and you'll go into them blind no matter how much you prepared.
I thought the video lectures for this class were good. That's if the material of the class was actually based off them. The 2 exams that determine your grade are way harder than expected. By the way you have no study material besides the textbook so you will ALWAYS go in blind to the exams. Do not take if you have a job or other commitments.
Amazing when it comes to communicating and describing concepts. Provided beneficial comments and tips. If you actually do all the homework, even the suggested homework, tests are no different. Just a lot of work! But you can learn
-Information overload in classes, absolutely NO structure or organization -He just solves problems on printer paper for 3 hours -tests are HARD -there are no directions and prof doesn't explain anything -Fast paced, and I am a student that usually excels in math - I have asked questions prof couldn't answer will NEVER take his class again
this instructor is very good at explaining difficult math concepts, more clear then moist others. was very respectful and knowledgable, would have again.
I hadn't taken a math class in almost 15 years, so I was very nervous about this class. His recorded lectures were lifesavers!! I was able to take very thorough notes and refer back to the recordings if there was a topic that didn't quite click. Take your time and do all of the work! If you do, this course is really set up for you to succeed.
