kinda dorky/detached, good guy once you get to know him, labs fun, hard concepts

coolest teacher ever!!
If you wanna take a nap take this class.
He's got a dry sense of humour and it works well. Class is always fun, I didn't want it to end. But grading isn't the best, because there are very few points to go around. Every point counts in his class, so better make sure you are sure about your answer
such a fun class and he makes it all the more fun with his dry sense of humor. wanna have fun take this class
tests are BASIC! He gives you a study guide listing every question that is on the test which consist of basic general concepts....if this class was hard for you, you're a dumb ass.
this is the most interesting class I have ever taken...and the professor is not boring at all...in fact, he is very interesting and funny
Verry boooooooorrring. About as fun as getting your teeth pulled. He never gave any specifics about what he wanted in class.
DID NOT TEACH THE CLASS. JUST GAVE ASSIGNMENTS W/OUT EXPLAINING. VERY BORING. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
Nicks the coolest teacher. He made me laugh all semester.Interactive and informative class. If you are interested in Astronomy take his class.
This is a very interesting class. You really learn a lot about astronomy and Nick is a very good teacher. He is both fun and knowledgeable.

Fun class. Did work mostly in groups. As long as you show up for class to do assignments, you'll be fine.
THIS GUY IS A BAD TEACHER!! I was in the front row and still failed. He does not teach he throws notes on the board and expects you to know what it all means. TERRIBLE!!
Requirements are VERY VERY UNCLEAR! Unexpectedly changes the syllabus so that there is way more homework. Tests are easy but you MUST take good notes.Lectures are a little unclear, you're not really sure WHAT to take notes on.Required field trip to a REALLY FAR place, waste of gas money.Interesting subject matter, but don't waste your time.

I am through with college now but I have to say that Nick is the most amazing professor I have ever had. Anyone who thinks his class is boring has clearly not been listening. He is insightful, brilliant, and hysterical. He is difficult but DO THE WORK and you won't have a problem. I am so grateful that I had Nick as a professor! ~Jessica :-)
astL was long, but for the most part if you show up you get an A, pretty easy. the class however after the 1st test you really have to study, he has review sessions that are EXTREMELY helpful, u could have missed every class and if you go to those youd do fine. attendance nazi and no make up tests. but other then that great guy is very ethusiastic!
His Grading is subjective. Which is very frustrating. On a side note he is a hairy disgusting looking man. He has more hair on his back than 3 girls have on their heads.
Great teacher. Very into subject. If you are somewhat intelligent and have an interest in science it is a great class. Don't take just for requirements. Lots of studying to be done. Overall a great class.
He is a very intelligent teacher, but he kind of babbles so it is hard to follow along. The only way to pass this class is to go to the reveiws and study and you will do well on the test. You could only miss like three classes too.
Made me open my eyes to differnt subjects, class was the easist one I ever took he tells you everything that will be on the tests and quiz's. I got 100% in the class and im really stupid.
EXCELLENT TEACHER!! Intersession class is the way to go. It was challenging, but go to his reviews and it'll really help for the test. Besides that take notes and show up and you'll do fine. Everything is spelled out clearly. He's definitely into the subject, and makes it easy to grasp some really confusing concepts. GREAT TEACHER
Best teacher and class ever! I really enjoyed his lectures. Quizzes and tests are very easy. He grades easy and is very clear. Go to the reviews. They are very helpful. He also tells you what will be on the test. He makes astr. fun and I can't wait to take his Lab course. Easy A.
I LOVE THIS GUY!!!!
Nick (he wants you to call him that) is more of a friend than he is a professor. Get to know him and be ready to actively participate in his class, if you do this and study the course material sufficiently, you'll be in good standing. I highly recommend taking any of his classes, a very good professor and a very cool person!
IF YOU TAKE THIS CLASS I WILL GUARENTEE, THAT YOU WONT BE DISSAPPOINTED!!!! THIS TEACHER DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER.
Be ready to participate in his class. Participation is a big portion of your grade. Everything else is easy
Best teacher. Easy if you go to classes and participate(note: 102 only for part.). You won't regret taking his class. One of my favorite teachers here at occ now.
easy going, nice instructor. loves astronomy.
His name is spelled Contopoulos and he is a really cool teacher who is really into what he does.
GREAT prof. Dry sense of humor, but once u figure him out, he's FUNNY, HELPFUL, and you really will learn a LOT in class. Teaches very interesting things that made me think more about life and our place in the universe than I ever have before. Tests are easy if you pay attention and the study groups/meetings r beyond helpful. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! :)
First of all, he is a complete jerk. The directions on his final are terrible, and thanks to his stupidity, I missed 6 questions on the final, and he doesn't bother replying to my emails, or offer me a makeup test which resulted in a C! Don't take his class.
I don't know why people are complaining Nick is a wonderful teacher, really interesting and intelligent. If you want an A ..PARTICIPATE! how else will you learn if you don't ask..the people who don't ask questions are the ones with the bad grades!!!! don't be embarrass
i took this class and it was very rewarding...got an a and got the opportunity to learn what's up there. i agree he's not the most organized guy, but he's an all around nice guy
In a large forum classroom it may be difficult to stay focused but he makes it a bit easier. By some luck I passed with a B with no studying (but retained none of the information). It's definitely interesting aside from the fact that he plays with his hair. That's just a tad disturbing.
really cool class.
makes corny funny jokes. good teacher
he is a very nice guy and it's nice to see someone that loves his job. The first month or so you have a quiz every day in class but they are easy as long as you study for about 20 min. He's funny too. I would recommend you take his class to fill your science requirement. He has plenty of extra credit too
Great man, he knows his stuff. I learned so much. YOU MUST TAKE HIM. The exam and quiz dates are on the syllabys, it also says what is on the Exam/Quiz. A real credit to OCC!!!
One would have to be a complete moron not to get full credit in this class. Nick makes the subject really interesting. Take this class
nick is amazing and i have never been more inspired by a teacher! for an old guy, he's super hot.
As a teacher, a little disorganized--he hands out lecture notes but they're mostly stream of consciousness stuff. As a person--a great guy. The subject matter was a little above my head; were this not so i probably wouldn't have an issue with his clarity.
Nick can be summed as the GREATEST Professor ever, if you have the chance to take any class of his DO NOT hesitate. He is cool, he reviews exactly what is on the tests and he is very funny. A cool guy and professor all in one, I loved that class.
Wow, I fell in love with this class even though the class is a science class which I dislike. Pay attention if you are not geared towards this side it can be hard to understand at times. The book comes in handy. Nick is probably the best teacher at OCC and should be recognized for this. He is pretty hot for an astronomy teacher....
I hated this teacher and this class..... I didnt understand a word he said i never really knew what to study for ya he gave me a list of things that might be on the test but you never know what was on it i was in every class took lots of notes and still didnt do good this guy sucks
Show up to class, take notes, and study before the quizzes. What he says is gonna be on the quiz will be on the quiz. e-mail him if u need more help
AWESOME PROFESSOR. His tests and quizzes are pretty easy and he's really understanding and funny. I have to disagree with whoever said he's hot; he's like 60 yrs old for goodness sakes.
This class is easy, read the book, do your homework, study what he tells you to study (not everything will be on YOUR test; different versions), and go to the review sessions (you will be glad you did). He tells you exactly what he wants. You gotta be a real lazy person to not do well in this class. He's a great teacher, organized, & speaks well
This is probably one of my favorite teachers ever! He makes everything so much fun and he is a really funny guy. It's not right that the school isn't helping him with the astronomy stuff-like new equipment and a better place to do the lab class. everyone should take this class and give him all the support he deserves.
Really nice guy,and funny. Ya, he's a bit old but still kind of hot. Those who complained are probably those who left class early & didn't take notes. He tells you exactly what is on quizzes/tests- for lecture & lab. Very helpful if you go to office hrs. Really friendly and funny if you get to know him. Labs are fun, too bad we couldn't see more.
I find astronomy amazing, and my friends and I converse (like nerds) over wicked space theories. Thanks to this class I have cooler things to talk about. I really think this professor is awesome...my first impression of him wasn't, but he's such a nerd and makes me laugh. Very helpful man...take good notes and you'll do very well.
Nick is an absolutely wonderful teacher. His interest and excitement about the cosmos and the equipment is infectious. Also, I was very impressed with his technical capabilities and breadth of knowledge.
I took his Cosmology Class and found it a little disorganized. Lectures are interesting, and movies are fun, but everything was so disorganized I wasn't sure what to study, what quizzes were on certain days. I thought I had a A in the class but got a B.
Actually made me very interested about astronomy. Much more aware of whats around me now, not just stars. Class isn't exactly easy but if you study and do all homework you'll do good. Very passionate about astronomy and very intelligent. would definitely recommend.
His class is very fair to students, theres a lot of homework so that will pad your grade if you aren't lazy. He grades pretty hard on the final/term paper, but he will tell you what he wants so just make sure you know the information. Don't try to BS though, because he will drill you. Overall easy honors class.
Good teacher! :) He's a sarcastic guy, so if you like that sort of thing, you'll love him. I didn't think I would become so interested in astronomy... I actually kind of surprised myself! As a business major, I just enrolled thinking "eh, another class i HAVE to take" but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Oh, take his lab class too! Not too hard!
TAKE THIS CLASS!! im no where neer an astr major, but this class is interesting! learned a lot! quizes are easy. tests are soo easy! he tells you what is on the test. go to class, take notes, ask questions during and after class. ended in the class with over 100%! do all extra credit. dont show up late to class on quiz day, cant take quiz. take!!!
Wow so i thought i was going to like this class and then i just took notes in class from the over head. not only is the class extremely boring but unless you word your answers on the test perfectly in his words he doesn't like you. stupid class i don't recommend it to anyone...if you are looking to complete your req don't take this class he is bad
He's an idiot, his grades were horrible this semester and hihs jokes are not even funny. He makes barely any sense and his study guides have very little to do with his acctual tests!!!!
He was great. VERY HELPFUL because the stuff is pretty intense. everything on the test is in the notes. Attend class, and ask any questions you have, and he is more than willing to help,if you dont you'll fail like the people did below me (who prob. didn't attend, and suck at life). he is a genuine teacher who loves the subject...so take him.
Written tests teach more than multiple choice tests. Subject matter is comprehensive but interesting. Great jokes (This is my space!!!). Way cool!
Go to class, listen to the lectures, take notes, and study from the review sheet because these things are important for the written tests. Attendance is important and the textbook is unnecessary. Stay on top of the out-of-class activities he assigns. Don't try to be cool and only show up once in a crescent moon because you'll fail. Easy A.
Great class but get a haircut, buddy.
i have never gotten an "A' in a science class ever, but nick can make anything about this topic very interesting. I usually think science blows but this guy mixes history and trivia with his lessons to make it interesting. His tests do require alot of studying, and its awesome that he has study sessions for the test where you can ask questions.
Give the guy a break. He's really nice, funny, and helpful. Has interesting cirriculum and a great textbook (wink, wink). Love the class. You're just all mad cuz he failed you. Just do the review sheets he gives you. Easy A. If you pay attention, you'll do fine. Love the last name too. :)
Great teacher. His class is way chill. Really got me interested in astronomy. First time i have ever seen the sun through an awesome and powerful telescope. And it was beautiful. The Sun so powerful and bright. An ingredient in life, yet ignored by most, is truly a site to see. I recommend this class to everyone.
Class consists of: 2 quizzes (easy), 10+- labs (easy), you just come to class, take out telescope, look at sun, draw sun, talk, talk some more, chill in sun, bring telescope back, get out of class. got an A. gets a lil boring.. the sun really doesnt change.

I usually think science blows but this guy mixes history and trivia with his lessons to make it interesting. This class is so boring. He talks on and on and expects you to think it's interesting. It's a pretty easy class if you keep up with the notes and the reading, but he doesn't make it interesting at all. He's probably the best choice for an Astronomy teacher, but I'd recommend staying away from him if you don't want to fall asleep during lectures.
While Nick is an extremely nice guy, and it is very obvious he wants his students to understand, his tests are a bit much. No multiple choice it's all short answer, and if you don't know something well enough you're basically screwed. I'd take him if you were an astronomy major and really wanted to learn the materia, but not if you just want an "A"
Nick is a decent teacher. His lectures are a little boring sometimes and he lectures most of the time. This class is pretty interesting though and can help your social life. The only one really annoying thing about Nick is that he tells too many bad jokes, otherwise, he isn't bad. There are a few assignments and/or projects you might have to do.
He is very funny guy, makes a lot of jokes. and he knows what he teaches. very clear. and those people who rated him low are basically didnt study and failed. attendence is very important otherwise you wont get any notes and screw the exams.
Wow, one of the best teachers on campus. Does weekend study groups and does not leave until every single person gets every question answered. Not a super easy class but if you get into it you will get an A. You learn things that you will want to talk about with your friends all semester.
He is a funny guy and explains things the best possible. Hes very patient and isnt bad at all!... Its your decission to pass or fail his class. Class grade is only based on test scores (atleast it is for this class) Everything is written i think thats the hard part but if you do the reading and practice writing it out you should b fine!
Nick is awesome! He LOVES astronomy & loves talking about it. He is hilarious in a very nerdy & offbeat sort of way. He is extemely helpful & happy to help you if you're confused. Textbook is not necessary. 5 tests, no homework. Class is 250 points total, so you have to study! I'm really glad I took his class.
Nick is very amusing because his jokes are so bad they are funny. He is a very nice guy and makes sure everything is clear. This class is very interesting and keeps you thinking about the universe even when class is over. The tests and homework are all straight forward. The midterm and final is basically the study guide he gives you.
this guys tests are free write
he's a very laid back guy and really enjoys teaching astronomy. you watch the simpson's pretty often, and if you study the study guidehe gives out before both tests you're pretty much garrenteed an A the tests. Don't fall behind on the Ch. summary things though.
His tests are very difficult. Usually 5 questions and if you dont know those 5 you're screwed. Whatever he talks about in class is usually on the test so make sure you take good notes and read. He's helpful but boring.
TERRIBLE CLASS! i took him at GWC at night. 3 hour class of torture. his tests are super hard! i went from 2 A's to 2 F's on the tests! and i ended up with an F in the class. i dont reccommend taking him at all! he ruined my who GPA.
His lectures were hard to follow. Tests are basically essay questions, no multiple choice. 1 paper the entire class got A's on for the most boring book ever and did random attendance, so you just hope that if you miss a day you its not a day worth 100 points. He's funny though. Lots of material to memorize.
I do not recommend him whatsoever, I took his class at goldenwest at night for 3 hours...thought I would learn alot but didnt...his tests are the hardest...Ive never seen any testing like his..they are all writing exams...with no job banks or help.
Too many people complain about the difficulty of the tests. Essay questions simply prove you have an understanding of the curriculum. While his humor may be a bit dry, it has a sense of comedy. There are also a few video lessons throughout. He is helpful, compassionate, and all of the study guide can be reviewed on wikipedia. I got an A.
In my opinion, this guy is an awful teacher. He has no social skills what so ever. He doesn't even know the answers to his own quizzes. His grading process is very subjective. It's not based on what the student knows, but on what he seems to know. All in all it was an awful experience.
In all honesty, I didn't know much about astronomy before stepping into Nick's class. Let me tell you, this guy seems to have an answer to any question you might have on the subject and his explanations are very thorough. Don't be afraid to ask questions during class; he's very approachable. Tests are easy; show up for the review and you're set.
He is a nice guy, very friendly. But if you don't pay attention to what this man is saying you are in deep trouble. his tests may be difficult because there are no word banks. Missing 1 class is missing many, many, important information. Take this class very seriously, or look for another professor.
This guy is awesome! Don't worry about the people who rate him so poorly. Attend lectures, take notes, and read the text and you'll score an A. Tests are all written, but only 5-8 questions long... If you study you'll be out of class 1 hour ahead. =D Recommended for those interested in AST and "a little bit of everything" good class
so easy. Be there when he says whats on the test, study those topics thoroughly and get 100%s
Nick is a rad guy. He's super passionate, intelligent, & has a great ironic sense of humor. His tests are a few short answer questions, and all of the material comes from his lectures, so you'll need to show up & take good notes. I got an A in his class, & it took a little bit of work, but I totally loved the class.
You have to take notes, ask questions, and read the text book. He will help you out if you have questions and he has a good sense of humor. ( I wouldn't text if I were you. )
I've taken all his classes. There are relatively easy as long as you pay attention. His notes are a little unorganized, but if you ask him anything he will be more than happy to clarify things for you. I highly recommend taking ASTR 103, very interesting.
I took the Honors portion of the course, which was not so much Astronomy, but an Intro to Cosmology. The textbook is mandatory for homework assignments. Quizzes every few weeks, but they aren't that bad if you study and pay attention- all of his tests are written. Great Professor.
I've never had a more unhelpful teacher as Contopoulos. He's a nice guy and all but don't even both e-mailing him. He gives you one sentence answers and usually writes his e-mail in the subject box of an e-mail which is very odd. More then half of our class had dropped at the end and he seems like he couldn't care less. Only 4 tests and that's it.
He is awesome! Exams are short answer essay form. Take notes, read the book, and study, one of the most interesting class I've taken in OCC. DO NOT miss class because the notes will be on the exams!
He loves astronomy and knows his material. He is very helpful & informative & always making silly jokes. He is not a difficult teacher, just follow his directions and you will do great. Be sure not to write too little when answering the questions on tests and homework. I loved this class. And i hate school and learning so that's saying something.
Great class! The professor is extremely helpful and does a great job of making Astronomy easy to understand for everyone. He has a dry sense of humor which really makes the class go by faster and makes it more enjoyable. I had no interest in Astronomy before taking this class, but this professor changed my mind!
Great teacher, everything you need to know for the test he beats into your head over and over again, you even get a review word for word what he expects you to answer. I could have got an A but I missed like 9 classes. Everything he stressed I remember, he is very passionate and knows his stuff. Take him!
Great teacher. Lectures tended to drag on a little at times. Test preparation is straight forward and thoroughly explained. Tests are often more simple then one would initially assume.
ok first... hot! odd sense of humor but easy class. justshow up. In the lab you stand around... waiting for the sun so bring friends. The movies are cool. tests - were so easy. homework too. 1-3 questions?
Tests are not as hard as you think they will be. Write as much as possible, he really grades on effort. He usually tries to pick entertaining books for the class to read. He's super passionate. A bit eccentric, but awesome overall.
Funny guy, and interesting class. If you PAY ATTENTION you will get an A in this class. All test are essay form. No "mulitiple guessing" as he likes to say.
He totally got me interested in science with the beginner astronomy course. It was an easy class and he made the class very fun.
This professor is awsome! he is sooo easy and intersting. i rly enjoyed going to his class. u dont need textbook n he gives u the answers to the test if u listen GREAT TEACHER OVERALL
He is an awesome professor. The weekend study groups are very helpful, and his reviews are exactly what will be on the test. He is funny 2. Take him and you will not be disappointed.
This guy is the most subtly hilarious teacher I've had. He's very friendly and will answer any questions you have. His class was interesting but hard to make it to at 6AM! I love all of the videos and slides he showed us in class--they really helped in my understanding of the subject. He sometimes gives extra credit opportunities! Take advantage.
He's a nice guy and is very funny if you like dry humor but do not take this class unless you are an astronomy major or are really into it. The people who aren't have no idea what he is talking about.
He can be really funny at times! I had his class at 6 am and he made enjoyable to go to class. I recommend it!! Its very interesting! his "quizzes" are easy because he gives you all the answers.
Very friendly. I learned a lot in his class. He's a friend, who always gives you motivation to pursue your dreams. He really cares about his students and makes many chances for them to join astronomical events around the area. One group presentation at the end of the semester. Take-home midterm and final.
Very friendly. He's a friend, who always give you motivation to pursue your dreams. He really cares about his students and make chances for them to join astronomical events in the area. One group presentation at the end of semester. Takehome midterm and final. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
Nick is a nice guy, as many have said. The most important things you need to know about his honors class are that (1) show up every day; the notes are too important to miss anything. (2) Study for the quizzes; if you study, you'll do well. (3) Take this class only if you REALLY like Astronomy. It's a good class. Learned a lot. 100% would recommend.
Nick is a great teacher and very passionate about Astronomy. I didn't know anything about Astronomy and he created an interest where there was none. If you don't understand what he is talking about, ask a question. He loves participation, so jump right in! Cross Steve Carell and Leslie Nielsen and you get Nick.
I'm surprised this professor hasn't received that "hotness" chili pepper. I personally enjoyed being in class at 6 p.m; Nick has a keen sense of humor...just be enthusiastic & don't miss the quizzes..this course is an easy A. If you fail this class the professor is not to blame..he's very helpful. (I thought he was hott also) ;)
This class was awesome! His lectures are fun and the quizzes you take at the beginning of every class have only couple of questions that's really easy as they come straight from the lecture. You don't need the text book for this class. Very enjoyable. He really gets you interested in the subject.
Professor Nick Contopolous Astronomy class is one of the best Astronomy class you can ever find! His lecture are clear and he gets provide you an interest in the subject. I took his 2nd-term 6 week class and got an A. All you have to do, is show up and take his 10 or 20 points quiz every day. Don't worry! His quiz comes straight from the lecture!
such a good teacher very funny. study notes and you should be set also try not to be absent a lot it will affect you on your grade since there is a quiz every time at the beginning of class .
Had Nick for intersession and I'm glad I did it. 10 quizzes no final. His quizzes were all essay questions pertaining to what we learned the previous day. He would tell you to study 4 points but ask you about 2 on the quiz. Book only used for homework questions but everything else came from his PPT slides. Subject material is not difficult to learn
Nick is a great professor! Kinda of a nerdy sense of humor but he is passionate! Took him last semester and passed with an A. Quizzes everyday but he literally tells you what is going to be on it. Homework is easy too (it's all online). DON'T BUY THE BOOK! Go to the library and use the book on reserve for the questions. It's a lot easier & cheaper!
He's a great teacher with a lame (in a good way) sense of humor. He goes over whats on the quizzes over and over again in class so if you listen and review the online notes you'll ace the weekly quizzes. The one bad thing is that he makes you repeat what he just taught to your neighbor, and at 6am.. thats the last thing I want to do...
Nick is an awesome professor, who I am glad I took a class with. I wanted to take the 100 class that he offers, but considering I hate doing anything in the single digits AM, that wasn't an option. His 101 class was really interesting, and you'll learn a lot. The quizzes aren't too difficult, and are pretty open-ended. His classes are all lecture.
Nick is a really great instructor. Really passionate about the subject. He breaks the subject down to where you can actually understand it. As long as you come to class everyday and study your notes, you will be able to pass short quiz each day. But, you need to put in the effort. Awesome class.
Nick is a great professor, he cares and understands what students need to learn in order to pass his class. He prepares you for each quiz and he lets you know the specific topics for what's going to be on them. His sense of humor is funny and it adds to the lecture. You'll enjoy this class! Don't buy the textbook though, you won't need it!
Was not pysched to be taking his 6am class but he was very entertaining and passionate about what he taught!! He has a good sense of humor and really gets you thinking about the universe!! Easy A if you take about 2 hours each day to study Take his lab too. Taking his other three classes next semester!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Assigned seats. Book is not needed.
Professor Contopolous deeply knows his material, ask him any question related to the subject and he will give you in full detail respond. Took his summer 3 week course, quiz everyday l, but they are very easy because he tells what exactly to study on. His in class work are easy as well, it only takes 5 minutes to finish and easy full point.
BEST SUMMER CLASSES EVER ( I took him both Lecture and Lab). He's super clear on grading. I totally understand that coming to school at 6 in the morning sucks but you will miss him sooooooooo much when the class(es) end. I suggest to take him during Summer since it's only 3 weeks comparing to 8 weeks during Fall or Spring. no need book
Took his 6 AM class in the summer. He was extremely helpful and cared about the success of his students. The class was fun and he tried to make it as interesting as possible. He is so smart and can answer any questions that the students had. Could not have asked for a better professor to not only teach, but inspire and provoke my interest in astr.
Go to class, pay attention, review notes, the quizzes are an easy A. I was inspired because I can't think of any other class that's fascinating enough to wake up for at 6 a.m. It's a huge lecture class which he keeps interesting; however, when it comes to the club meetings or office hours he has his preferences in students, and can be eccentric.
Omg I love this class. He is so funny and makes you understand and love astronomy. Even though it is 6am but it is totally worth it. Quiz everyday but very easy, homework and group quiz are googling. It will be easy A if you can show up on time and review your note. Take himmmmmmm
Was expecting a good time due to the reviews but he is honestly my least favorite teacher at the school. Demanded attendance in class but would only play astronomy videos to do his job for him. Never received feedback on my final. I asked him a question once and he walked away from me in front of everyone with a snob expression.
He was really bad he was actually the most unorganized, unhelpful teacher ive tooken at OCC His quizzes are so vague & general. he gives you info to study that isn't even on the quizzes His homework wasn't even on the homework tab on blackboard, they were all over the place? If it's for GE credit, i'd recommend taking Geology or something else
Besides my complaints, I heard a huge amount of people complaining about him too. doesn't update the grades at all and he just doesn't seem to care at all. Pretty bad don't recommend.
My major complaint with this class was that he would go over what would be on the tests and would only give you maybe two topics, when the test came nothing he said to study would be on the test. He would even put questions he said specifically not to study. Other than that, homework was easy and it was a pretty mellow class.
Fantastic professor! His assignments and quizzes are fair. He's kind of... a jerk but in a good way. A lovable jerk! He's hilarious but you can tell he really cares during his lectures despite the his attitude seems negative. I 110% recommend him! Another important note: He really likes cows.
Do NOT take him for a GE class. He gives you questions for the quizzes but the answers are far off from what he wants.
do not take him
He gave us topics on the quizzes and when you think you got the answer right, it is wrong.
Even though going to class at 6am was not fun, this class was really easy. Quiz everyday (he tells you what will be on the next day's quiz), daily homework on Astronomy articles, and group quizzes (on random articles). Being there for each class is necessary since not being there one day can bring your grade down a lot. Overall, easy and he's funny
Great teacher. He is so knowledgeable it's absurd. I took him for 2 different classes, and I am glad I did. His cosmology class was the toughest A I have ever received. I don't think I ever took a class where I learned more than Nick's cosmology, about life as well as the physics of the universe
I took Mr. Contopolous for a fall intersession course; we met 4 days a week /4 hours a day. In my prior college courses I applied myself minimally and had little interest in my education. Nick's teaching style not only captivated my interest, but inspired me to redefine my outlook and approach to my college career.
I took this class because astronomy has always been an interest of mine. This class was all physics! Not what I expected. Would not have taken it if I knew that because physics is my worst subject. In class work is easy. Homework is easy. Tests are hard to understand because he doesn't explain everything that you need to know! Lots of group work.
Nick is one of my favorites professors here at OCC. For the lecture class he tells you everything that will be on the quiz. No need to pay attention. Lots of group work but it is super easy. Lab class was so much fun and easy. I strongly recommend you guys to take him!!! Super outgoing.
Great teacher, very knowledgeable and passionate about his work. Long lectures, but very interesting. The way the class is structured, it is easy to pass as long as you attend class regularly. I did not even open my textbook once all semester.
SUPER EZ A. But I got a B lol for poor attendance. Homework is elementary ez. Its basically given to you-must be typed and turned in for each week. If you never miss a lecture you're pretty much guaranteed an A. Gives you questions for quizzes in advance. Group quizzes and quizzes (5 questions max) every lecture but all easy! Take his class!! :)
Nick's class is what a course should be like! I truly feel like I have learned a lot from his Astronomy 100 class. The first day of class he flat out said how wrong it was that we had to buy $150 books! I wish more professors were like him!
perfect professor, easy class, patient, i recommend it :)
Prof Contopolous is seriously awesome. So glad I took this class! Super easy A. No final exam. No hard tests. Just a daily quiz and homework. He makes the class so fun. Not your typical boring lectures. I was actually excited to go to class everyday. Would take again and again. He makes a lot of dad jokes, so I hope you like those.
Super easy A as long as you don't miss too many days. No final or midterm. The entire class is based on quizzes, hw (takes 10 minutes), and group work (takes 10 minutes). Also funny guy. And no textbook required!
Overall good professor, told a lot of dad jokes which I found to be hilarious. 3 quizzes every class (Take home, In class, Group) & no midterm or final, just those quizzes. Sometimes quizzes wouldn't be on exactly what he said would be on it which got a little frustrating after a while when I would study, and then it wouldn't even be on there.
You think the class is very easy going , and you may even do well on all the work during the semester. But he was extremely vague about the final and it almost failed me. Not worth taking.
Nick is a funny and caring professor. He is passionate about astronomy so don't hesitate to ask him. Highly recommended
Professor Contopolous was an overall great teacher. He's always cracking dad jokes and trying to make astronomy fun (but it is already a really cool subject). I learned a lot about the universe in his class and I took it over the winter intercession.
I am only in week 2 of this class and it's honestly a joke. For the hw, he basically gives you an article and he asks you to summarize it and what did you think of it. Same stuff for the in-class assignments. Gives quizzes every class but as long as you pay attention to what he tells you to study you should be good. An easy A. Might take for lab.
Very funny and breaks down things so it is easy to understand
The classes are all lecture which he does make pretty fun. Every single class has a quiz at the very beginning. One homework and one in class article summary are due everyday. Both easy, but boring. If you are on time and in class every meeting, it is an easy A. If you are one minute late, or don't show, you lose 3-4% of your grade for missing quiz
This class is a super-easy A. You show up--on time to not miss the quiz at the beginning of each class--and listen to his very straight forward yet monotonous lectures. Quizzes every class, short homework assignments, and laid-back lectures. Honestly, it is one of if not the easiest classes I have taken at OCC. Also, very interesting.
Stellar Astronomy. Unorganized. Unclear grading criteria. Syllabus will say one thing and he does another. Syllabus says no final exam... a week before the semester is over, final exam is announced. Take someone else.
Showing up is 75% of your grade to be honest since that is where the in-class quizzes, group quizzes, and homework submissions happen. The remaining of your grade is actually doing the homework (takes 20 minutes tops to read and answer questions). Pay loosely attention in class and you'll pass. The more you ditch the more it hurts your grade.
Took him during intersession and you HAVE TO have your own lab book. Grades were based on lab reports and one final. He's an easy going professor but show up on time bcs you don't want to push it. He almost never calls out anyone but don't be that one person everyone stares at. Just show up and pay loosely attention.
Really great Instructor, and also amazing lectures. You can get an easy A from this class.
He is the rudest prof I've met at OCC. Constantly puts students down and refuses to help or answer questions. Our final project is an entire class group project (who thought that was a good idea?) and he gives absolutely NO GUIDANCE with it. Take him if you want an incredibly easy class, but not if you want to be respected or taken seriously.
Professor Contopolous is a great Astronomy professor. He is enthusiastic while teaching and has a hilarious sense of humor. He was always so kind to me when I would ask him questions after class. It is very evident that he cares about his students. Take good notes because there's written quizzes each class. Put in the effort and you'll do well.
Professor Nick was okay. There is no structure to the class and he never communicated what are assignments are or what are grades were in the class which was upsetting. We never had one single quiz or assignment in class and the only assignments given was a group project and a final which consisted of what our role. The class didn't make sense,
My experience: show up, take a quiz that I studied for 5 minutes prior, learn cool science/space facts, repeat. No tests. The grade is based on the quizzes you take every lecture and three assignments that are very easy (just remember to do them cause he doesn't remind you). If you are there and you take all the quizzes you'll likely get an A or B.
A great class to take and a professor who knows what he is talking about. As long as you show up to class and take notes during the lecture, you will pass with an A. The quizzes are very easy as long as you study; he will tell you what will be on them. Overall, this class was interesting and very breezy, I'd definitely recommend.
Easy class! There are quizzes every lecture but theyre 2 questions and I studied the criteria 5 mins before class started. He tells you the questions beforehand. 2 papers and theyre 3 pages long each. He even gives you the notes. Easy class, easy subject, funny professor. Super easy
This class looks intimidating by the syllabus but it is not bad. There is a quiz everyday based off of the information he lectured on in the previous class. They are extremely easy as long as you pay attention. He is super nice and a funny guy. If you need help he is there and is flexible if you go on a trip with the school.
Easiest A of my life. If you're lazy and trying to do the bare minimum like me, this is the class for you. Each of his 1 hour lectures can be summed up in 5 mins tbh, he just rambles mostly, while the important pieces of info are already in the slides that he prepares for you. Quiz everyday but he literally tells you what's on it. You can't fail
one of the best profs on campus, i enjoyed his goofy dry humor though its not for everyone. very smart and caring teacher with a passion to teach. his lectures are a little better than the lab, since he kinda expected us to do most of the work in lab. otherwise outstanding professor.
Honestly, this has to be the easiest science class to take. All you need to do is listen in class and at the beginning of each class take the short quiz. Your grade is from 26 quizzes and 2 assignments(which are really short and easy essays). No book required and if you need it, he has a free online book.
Easiest class ever if you show up every day. He gives out handouts of all the slides in class to take notes alongside, there are quizzes at the start of every single class (no final!!) but he tells you exactly what to look over in your notes and 90% of the time what he said was the exact thing on the quiz.
In comparison to the other reviews, the class I am in right now seems like a whole other person teaching. The professor is not clear whatsoever, and we dont have quizzes every class. There is only one chance for extra credit at the beginning of the semester and the directions are not clear at all. His tests are totally different from the guides.
Seems like a nice guy but really hard to pay attention in his class. If you don't show up right on time he locks you out and won't let you join class. Makes us download an app to track phone usage that was 8 or 9 dollars which is DUMB, but worth 10% of your grade so you have to.
He has very interesting lectures with daily quizzes, but if you take notes the quizzes are very easy.
Probably the best science class if you're looking to do the bare minimum. He's funny which makes lecture enjoyable. Come to every lecture & pay attention (which you have to because of the app he makes you download) you will be fine. There are 5 exams and he provides study guides for each. However, they do get harder as the semester goes on.
I took his MTWR 8 week course, with the Astronomy Lab also taught by him. He is one of the nicest professors I have had. We had 5 exams in 8 weeks, so it is test heavy. He has you use an app that monitors the amount of time you spend on your phone during his lectures, to make sure you are staying engaged.
The lecture is better than astronomy lab cause he is super CLEAR on study guide. For Lab, its so much vague and worse part is when we have lab quiz, it doesnt match the study guide that he posted. I would not recommend taking Lab for him! 40 points extra credit for 8 pages is not worth so dont do extra credit for lecture. Dont take lab!
The projects and all the stars knowledge were fun. I did all the work and still got a B, don't know why. I went up and ask and he just said your grade is like that. Didn't even look over what's wrong.
