Very nice and helpful, but does not grade stuff, holds helpful study sessions
He's a nice guy
nicest, easiest teacher at osu...
He sucks, anyone can make power point slides.
hooot!
He did a good job. I have had him for the whole series (121-123), and he was helpful and informative. He makes class interesting. His exams were relevant to his lectures. He is a nice guy.
He is a wonderful teacher...very helpful...take advantage of the office hours. He is very flexible. He makes his class very understandable. He is one of the best professors i have had and made chemistry a wonderful expierence for me. I recommend him!!
Good teacher, but one of those young, annoying, I-love-this-job-so-much-and-I-want-you-to-know types; lectures tend to get old because of his childlike enthusiasm for.... ionization. Overall, effective but annoying; one can't picture him getting upset fo
Overall a good class. He's a fun teacher, but sometimes I wonder where he pulls a couple of the test questions from.
Funny and nice guy, easy-going and explains things clearly.
Very good teacher, and really cute too!
He is an awesome professor who makes his teachings fun and relevant to everyday living. He is incredibly personal and loves to help others. His power point presentation slides make it incredibly easy to take notes. doesnt hurt that he is cute. wink
Very easy to understand, lots of examples, and he's not to bad to look at.
A great teacher and very helpful. Wants you to do well.
Hands down an awesome teacher. Besides being nice looking, he is a wonderful teacher that wants people to succeed. His slides make it easy to read along and he explains things in a clear, consise, manner. Good sense of humor. You WANT to go to his class.
SIMPLY THE BEST TEACHER EVER. So hilarious, too. He should do stand-up. You gotta sit in the front row and joke around with him. Teaching ability is through the roof, and he's sooo nice. Does everything possible to help. Also, he's pretty darn hot!
One of the best teachers I''ve had at OSU.
Dr. Drapela is a very good instructor. Cross your fingers and hope he teaches the organic 33X series. I went to his office hours twice and he knew my name on the second visit, REMARKABLE! I would consider him a genius.
he's a very nice guy. seriously recommended
This guy obviously has a strong background in Organic Chemistry and Chemistry in general. He is clear and fair and one of the best professor's that I have had. GIVE THIS GUY A RAISE
Needs more test writing experience
He's a great teacher and a nice guy, but he doesn't go as in depth as Watson. If he co-writes your tests with Watson, be prepared to see concepts that you never saw in class.
He's really nice, but he doesn't understand or answer questions well. He seems to think of the class as an amusement, and he skims over in-depth topics.
I thought he was great. Very reasonable expectations for the tests. Plus, he won't put you to sleep in class like other chem professors. An explosion guaranteed every week. :)
His tests were hard but were completely fair, Drapela is a really good teacher
great teacher! keeps things as interesting as chem can be, and teaches very clearly
good in lectures, but can't count. Its hard to go through 1 example without him making some numerical error. Entertaining lectures, but he needs A LOT more test writing experience.
I definetly recommed taking a course from this guy. Not only does he know his stuff, but he makes learning fun (which is hard to do in chemistry)
Greatly enjoyed this teacher but it was a bit of a shock taking 332 from a faster-paced, more in-depth teacher...Drapela's tests were multiple choice, plenty of time to finish, few mechanisms, and his lecture was more laid-back. Almost guaranteed that if I was thinking of a question on a topic, it was the next things he had planned to address.
Liked the class. Wasn't too fond of the labs, but what can ya do?
Great prof! keeps you interested and does some interesting experiments (don't sit in the front row). Sometimes, the experiments don't work the first try. Knows what he's talking about
REALLY EASY CLASS. He was very helpul, and gives good experiments.
He moves kind of fast, but he knows his subject well. His midterms are pretty hard and require lots of studying but they aren't impossible to master. I was disappointed in his final though...he made it WAY too easy and a lot of ppl got A's that didn't know
He is a great teacher and a very nice guy. He is easy going and makes me happy to come to class. Sometimes his tests are too easy, but on average they are alright. There are no words that can accurately describe how much I appreciate the consideration he gives to our use of graphing calculators and how he made chem skill builder optional.
An excellent, knowledgeable, exciting, and fun professor
He is very helpful, and I understood him well.
Good Class, Probably my favorite!
He teaches a pretty easy chemistry class and explains things well. he loves those clickers
He is an awesome professor! He is also really funny (tried to fool us on aprils fool day). I'm taking 221 this year with richardson and its so much more dragging and worse. I liked how he had his lectures on a slideshow so we didnt have to deal with sloppy writing.
He is very easy, but he does tent to throw unexpected questions in on the midterms
Good teacher, hard midterms. Likes funny pictures and does good demos.
Great teacher. He loves to teach chem and he's good at it. His tests are somewhat difficult, but overall he makes up for them.
Arrogant...go to Linn Benton for chemistry.
Hard Midterms Final makes up for both midterms Goes pretty Fast
Good teacher. Tries to make chem fun. Tests are much harder than quizes and examples used in class.
He is a nice person. Tests are hard but, pretty similar as the practice one.
Great teacher, clear on whats on tests. he makes chem pretty fun. I highly recommend him. Plus all the slides from lecture are online .
Dr. Drapela is such a wonderful teacher. He is very organized and very helpful and he seems to really care about the students. I would recommend him to anyone!
He is an amazing teacher and really makes sure that the students understand the content and can explain it until they do. He is extremely organized and is more than williing to work with you if you are having troubles. Plus his lectures are online and the review for the test are similar to the test. I actually enjoy going to lecture!
Fantastic teacher. Puts a lot of work into his lectures, makes it interesting and engaging. Starts out his lectures with clips from movies to get your attention, and keeps it the whole way through. Very enthusiastic, and has fair tests that, if you go to class and study a little, will be easy for you.
He's definitely my favorite prof thus far. Makes things interesting, and helps you think deeper about the subject matter
Definitely my favorite professor so far. Best chemistry class ever, too. He makes the class actually interesting, and puts a lot of work into his lectures. Despite the fact that the classes are huge, he manages to keep the lecture at a level where everyone is interested, and understands the material at the end of the class. The exams are easy, too.
Only the best professor EVER. I never have been more excited about going to a chemistry class!!! I used to fall asleep in Chemistry classes at least a couple times per week, since he took over i have paid attention and have actually enjoyed a subject which i had little interest in
What a ****! Dr Drapela is an awesome teacher, makes chemistry easy to understand. Take his class, you wont be sorry
Excellent instructor
Pretty good prof, alittle cut and dry on the test, he isnt looking to help pass anyone. Not exciting lectures but I have had worse
Is an EXCELLENT teacher! I had him for both gen chem and for organic (after taking it with 2 other profs) and he is by FAR the best one. He explains it so we understand and is very compassionate. He loves being there and teaching. It shows on how he interacts with his students. He cares if we comprehend the material. Great teacher & person.
By far one of the BEST teacher's I've ever had. I had to retake this class, but I walked in blind because I never learned anything from the first time I took with Walker. Drapela makes a hard class seem like cake. He's one of those teachers that's really intelligent and knows how to deliver his knowledge. TAKE CLASSES FROM HIM IF YOU CAN!
O-CHMI&II. Dr. Drapela is the best prof Ive ever had. Always holds office hours & stays extra. He is not looking to fail you or kill you on an exam, put in the time & you'll do very well. Hes very happy to ans Q during lecture. To sum him up, he is like a friend trying to teach you the material. Very intelligent prof & I wish the best for him.
The material was easy and he made sure that everyone new what they were doing.
Great prof. Easy to approach, great use of slides, and fair tests.
Drapela is a great teacher, makes class interesting. Tests are difficult so, know the material.
Amazingly structured class. Powerpoint slides available online, but examples worked out in class. Keeps you awake while in class, has a good sense of humor. Is always available when extra questions are needed, willing to spend his time to help you understand, makes a difficult class mearly challenging. Makes you feel respected when around him
Dr. Drapela, is of the greatest professors at the university.. He is a great teacher and a wonderful man... He taught my 223 course and it was great, also my 334 class and it was excellent.. So glad to have met, and got to know him. Suggestions: go to lecture, ask questions, and spend time with the material - afterall chem isn't the easiest sub.
excellent prof. was definitely the best professor at OSU so far!!!
Drapella's the man! He'll go the extra mile to help out anyone. His lectures are clear as is his course outline for materials. He makes organic chemistry something most people would never consider it to be... FUN! I would recommend taking any course this professor teaches, he's awesome!
Hes a really good person to just hang out with. Hes a very hard professor though, in comparison to Walker, hes not dull, but his exams are really hard. NEVER GO OFF HIS LAST YEAR'S EXAM. Make sure you know your stuff because he will go straight off the lecture notes!!!!!!!
He takes O-chem, usually an extremely hard subject to grasp for most, and puts it into terms you can understand and comprehend. His analogies are awesome! Its very hard to find a good science teacher thats easy to talk to during office hours and doesn't make you feel stupid for not understanding the material. Hes a great O-chem teacher indeed!!
His lectures were easy to follow, entertaining, and I felt I learned a lot. Was always willing to help and was very easy to talk to. Over all, the class was a lot easier than I expected thanks to all the extra office hours provided.
I thought this guy was awesome! In my opinion, he took a class that most students were nervous about and created a relaxed atmosphere. This was good for learning I think. A+
Drapela is one of the best chem teachers I've ever had. Albeit this was my first term of organic chem, he made it very easy to understand. The textbook is only required for the suggested problems (he tests on what he lectures) but I highly recommend doing the problems. Other than that, he's great and I can't wait till 336 when we get him back!
One of the best teachers I have ever had. His lectures are well structured and his tests are constructed appropriately. He integrates the book into his lectures really well to help you learn the material. study old exams - they help alot for tests.
Managed to make organic chemistry crystal clear. Many analogies comparing electrical attractions to dating or following steps to chasers. Actually made o-chem entertaining.
Drapella is very good at taking complex concepts and putting them into plain english. He is also interesting. Unlike my previous chem experience @ OSU, I not only was able to stay awake in class, I learned something also. TAKE HIS CLASS, you won't regret it.
Best chem teacher I've ever had, makes everything clear and posts his lectures on blackboard so if you miss it's not a problem.
Dr. Drapela is much more fun to listen to than Dr. Walker and uses memorable stories and analogies to make concepts easier to remember. I learned more efficiently from Walker, but it depends a lot on your learning style. Drapela is exciting, unpredictable and a good prof, Walker is almost comically organized and formal and a good prof.
The easiest class of the series. He tells you exactly which mechanisms and reactions to study.
Talks in plane english, not chemistry talk. Relates topics to every day life and easy to understand. If you can take his class over anyone else....do it
Dr. Drapela ROCKS! Actually made Organic Chemistry fun...well made it fun to come to class anyway. He related the atoms to stereotypical people which made their behavior in different circumstances easy to understand. Definitely rearrange your schedule to take OChem w/Dr Drapela!
Good professor overall. Seems like a nice guy who wants to help you out. Classroom is pretty crowded and warm, but oh well. Don't bring a laptop to class, it will distract you. Online quizzes are fairly easy, midterms are a little bit tough. Would suggest him to anybody
Well liked on campus, but his online ochem class was a true disappointment. I don't recommend him online, he was very unfair and careless. Mistakes, technical issues, pissed off students, poor communication and course structure.
online class is poor, don't waste your time with him.
worst o-chem prof. at OSU :(
i agree, I dont why they let him teach online in the first place. I got some good scores and learn somethings but it was not easy with the TA we had. The TA was soo mean to us.
He is a terribly horrible professor for organic chemistry. His lectures barely scratch the surface on what he tests you on. He expects a lot out of his students, he tests you like you are a graduate student and now this the material inside and out. He makes a lot of mistakes during lectures so he confuses. Avoid Drapela at all cost!!
Drapela's online class was terrible, very disorganized. Quizzes and tests were often trick questions and much too advanced for this course. He does not want to help his students outside of class either. DO NOT TAKE DRAPELA!
Very intelligent, and easy going. I would have rated him easier, but I had AP chemistry in High School, so I feel it would be harder for people with no chemistry than for me. Overall a great professor to learn chemistry from. Wait till you see the liquid oxygen demo! XP Awesome!
Im not sure whats up with the bad comments on drapela. they obviously didnt take time to go talk to him and try to understand the material. i got a bad grade on the midterm and i started to go to his office hours and did great on the final. he only gets mad at people if they dont try.
Overall, a fairly standard chemistry class. He moves along quickly, so either print out the slides or write a lot. He covers too many topics in too short a time which is hard for those of us who don't really care about chemistry. If you are solid in chemistry, you will do fine. For everyone else, do the homework and you should be able to pass.
Very clear, no homework, and tests are all multiple choice!
He is a very organized professor. He prepares a powerpoint before class that is easy to follow. If a student needs extra help after class, he will explain the problem in a way that is understandable. Also, he tests on homework problems and information in the powerpoints; not random problems. This class is only graded on scantron tests.
If you have the opportunity to take Drapela, do it! Hands down one of the best profs at OSU! Very good lectures and no homework, but hard midterms and Final, so as long as you study you'll do great. :)
Worst teacher in the existence of OSU. Should be fired immediately. Tests are nothing like his lect and sugg problems. Reading the book won't even help. He tests like you are a grad student. Nice to your face but once you take an exam of his, you will HATE him. The only reason people gave him a good rating is cuz he was trying to get a promotion.
He really is not as bad as some people make him out to be. He's a good teacher. He isn't too boring and he isn't too enthusiastic. There are definitely worse chem professors out there. Drapela's tests aren't too bad either so long as you pay attention. I skipped class a good amt of times and still did well. But if given the choice, take Nafshun.
After being sick 3 weeks, and after a terrible midterm written by subs, Drapela has come back and we all remembered just how absolutely awesome he is. (standing ovation for his return). Go to class, never need to to open the book till studying, study hard for the midterms and final.
He is brilliant! Keeps my attention really well.
He seems to know his stuff, and is easy enough to understand, but he interjects way to much of his own personal opinions on things that have nothing to do with Chemistry. His little "opinion" surveys are extremely biased and take up too much time. I also took 202 it was the same story there.
Best Chem professor ever! Midterms are easy and the final is legit. If you get a better grade on the final than the average of your two midterms, you automatically receive your final test grade as your final letter grade. Sweet sauce!
Drapela is great. Super organized with powerpoints posted, he gives you the full lecture so if you miss a class you'll be alright. Practice tests are VERY similar to the midterms and final so if you can do those you'll be set. I also took 122, overall pretty easy classes, I never understood chemistry but he really broke it down. Good prof!
He makes the topic interesting. He's pretty funny too.
He seems to be a very fun and easy teacher at first but treats his office hours as though we should have tried everything else first. Not really concerned with your personal learning. If you are the type of person who would like a clarifying response now and then (2 times a term maybe) he's not the professor for you.
His lectures are great!! His tests can be random and tricky. He is the best professor for the chem 100 series.
he is awesome!
I think he is a great teacher! He explains material in a very no nonsense kind of way. Clearly tells you what will be on the test, through a study guide. Text book is not needed everything on the test is discussed in lecture. Highly recommend! and yes he's not all that interested in every students personal learning, but he has over 1000 students!
He's a fun teacher and tries to make lecture interesting. be prepared for a HARD test. overall pretty good
Professor Drapela is a consistent, clear, and interesting professor that is very helpful in lecture. I really appreciate this class even though I am not that interested in chemistry simply because he is a teacher that cares about the learning of the concept.
This is my second term taking chemistry from Dr. Drapela and I plan on taking him again for Chemistry next term as well. He does have tests that tend to be challenging but he gives you every source that you need to get a good grade in the class. He makes lectures worth listening to and I have enjoyed taking his classes this year
Drapela is awesome. He's easy to understand, if you go to lecture and pay attention you'll do fine on his tests. He seems like a super sweet person and a generally great teacher. I've had him 2 terms now, I've gotten A's without a ton of effort, and I understand everything very well. HE'S A WINNER!
Great teacher!
I have taken Drapela two terms and have really enjoyed his class. He posts lecture slides online so its really easy to follow along during lecture. He is pretty funny and seems nice/helpful whenever students ask questions during class. The midterms/final are tough, but thats expected out of Chemistry. Just allow enough studying and attend lecture!
his class is fun to be in. he is clear but his tests surprised everyone! the average score was 58 and he won't curve it up!
Much better than his counterpart.
Really cool guy with a funny sense of humor. Makes chemistry interesting and fun but man his tests are hard! Wish he would curve it because for example, the average on the last one was a 56 but besides this he is a great guy. I recommend you take him
This is probably one of the best, most informative and helpful chemistry teachers i have ever had and i would forever recommend him to anyone.
Amazing professor! Lectures are easy to follow and clear. Makes lectures interesting and funny. Compared to the other 123 professors he's defiantly the best.
Dr. Drapela is a wonderful teacher. His lectures are clear, and his tests are EASY compared to some other chemistry teachers.... Go to every lecture, take notes on printed out lecture slides and you will have to do very little studying for his exams. Very sad to see him go and would highly recommend him to any future students considering taking him
Professor Drapela is able to teach his subject so that it is you can understand it and be interested in it. His tests are very fair they are always based on lectures and readings and do not attempt to trick you. He is a great guy.
He is a wonderful instructor. He really takes the time to explain the material and genuinely cares about his students. It is such a shame to see him leave.
Go to the lectures and you will get good grades. The best Chemistry teacher I have had.
Dr. Drapela is the greatest professor I've had! He explains concepts in such a way that anyone can understand. His tests are super easy. Of course, attending lecture is important - as with any class. Also, he has fabulous demonstrations. He is a wonderful teacher and I'm very sad to see him go.
Dr. Drapela was the best Chemistry professor I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. I know that a lot of us were very upset to hear that he had been let go from the university and we all believe it was a mistake. He was a great Chemistry professor and he should still be teaching here next term!
One of the best chemistry professors I have ever had. Extremely helpful.
Best professor I've yet to have at OSU. Understood everything he taught and he was very timely in answering any questions I had.
Best chem instructor I've had by far. Very good professor and well liked by everyone I've known who has had him. Very dynamic and willing not only to help his students, but he really goes above and beyond. I consider myself very lucky to have had Dr. Drapela.
Dr. Drapela is incredible! Very strategic with his lectures and has creative ways to present the material. I was registered for the other OSU Gen Chem teacher but i never once went to her lectures. By far my favorite teacher at OSU!
Great teacher, great person.
Great teacher overall, engaging in classroom lectures and interested in the subject he is teaching. Knows the material we are covering in class inside and out.
Great teacher. Clearly understands what he is doing and his lectures make perfect sense
Drapela used humor to engage the students in an early morning class, he was always upbeat and cheerful. I looked for more classes to take with him because he was so phenomenal
I hate chemistry. I never would have passed if not for Drapela. He is the best instructor I've ever had in a lecture setting. Classes were enjoyable and informative, and he expects his students to behave like adults. Awesome teacher!
I am terrible at Chemistry and have looked at the subject as the obstacle I will have to pass in order to graduate. After having Dr. Weiss for 121 I was still left with little hope. However, I then took 122/123 with Dr. Drapela and I finally feel like I can make it to graduation. He was an outstanding professor and I will be forever grateful!
Drapela was awesome for Chemistry. He makes a very hard subject fun and easier to understand. You can tell he actually cares about his students. My favorite teacher at OSU so far!
Even though I love chem. Drapela imo has always been the best in-class instructor in chemistry. His teaching style is hands down 2nd to none! as osu has now fired him. good luck to him and his family.
great professor, very helpful, kind, and wants students to be successful
One tough professor but is clear and very professional. Science is not my strength, but his quality of instruction helped me foster a successful grade. Very strong instructor.
I cannot honestly say that Chemistry is a subject that I enjoy I was not looking forward to taking the class before I did. Because of Dr. Dapelas compassion for science he did a very good job at making the course material interesting and at keeping our curiosity levels peaked.I recommend his class to anyone considering a course in Chemistry.
Chemistry can be a difficult subject but Professor Drapela loves this subject and it shows in his teaching style. His passion is infectious!! I highly recommend this professor when taking chemistry.
Outstanding instructor! Take him if you can for 121. He's far and away better than Nafshun! He is a wonderful person too, I went to his office many times. He was always happy to help and talk about life in general. One of the best profs at OSU, no doubt about that. I'll always remember a lot of what he taught me and our class. Bravo!!
