For the theology class I was in, we had Nick as our professor for Monday's and Fridays. On Wednesday we had a big lecture room we met in with other Theology's. My point is that this class isn't just run by Nick, but the curriculum is followed by multiple classes. There's homework due around 3 times a week, but it's not hard, and Nick was awesome.
Professor Eldner is a great professor! One of the best I have so far.
Great teacher.
He is super cool and easy to talk to. Relates well to students and is good at helping students understand the material. While he isn't a super tough grader, I think he is tougher than some of the other professors, which makes him more difficult when everyone has the same exact curriculum. Great for an intro class and would definitely recommend!
My absolute favorite professor on campus! Wish I could take his class over. Theology isn't an intensely interesting subject, and the coursework itself inevitably reflects that. Pro tip: don't read the bible. Shmoop it. Makes everything easier to understand. Also, do the extra credit!! Anyway, Nick is amazing.
Really nice guy, cares about students and what he's teaching them. You have a regular workload, but it's manageable and he's very good at explaining content.
Mr. Elder's class was very good! His way of teaching was fantastic and the best way to learn about Theology. He is a very humble guy that makes it an important point to know his students personally. He is a well repected professor here at Marquette, and if it were possible I would take him as a professor again.
Nick is a very good professor, however, he is limited by the content he is required to teach. He obviously knows quite a lot about theology, but is required to teach certain things, which I think is his greatest downfall. He is always available in his office hours and is just a great person to talk to. He made theology pretty easy.
Great Professor, his class will prepare you for the exam questions. The homework is really straight forward, and not too difficult. Some readings do take time, but they can be pretty interesting. Nick is really easy going, and if you ever need help I don't doubt he'd be willing to lend a hand. Definitely would recommend.
Professor Elder is super caring, and will help you succeed in any way possible. Lectures are clear and concise, and as long as you follow along with the class you will get a good grade. There is extra credit available and there are no surprises for content on the tests. Overall an interesting and good class to take
He is a really awesome teacher. Very helpful and makes the content very clear.
Really enjoyed his class. Amazing professor who clearly knows what he is talking about. I learned a lot and he is a super nice guy overall.
VERY NICE GUY, GREAT TEACHER. HELPS YOU OUT.
Dr. Elder very clearly wants his students to succeed in the course. There are no tricks for the course, his expectations are very clear: do the readings, come to class ready to engage, ask questions when unsure. He is even available for extra credit office hours appointments to encourage students' deeper engagement with material and success.
Expects way too much out of his students for a required class that nobody wants to be in. Have to work to do well in the class.
Dr. Elder's class was exceptional. There is homework and attendance is taken, but overall the material is easy to understand as long as you read and pay attention. Essays had a clear grading criteria and Dr. Elder was always very helpful.
Dr. Elder was a great teacher. The papers were not easy to write, but you will not be punished for not having a sturdy grasp on the content. There is a ton of reading, but don't get too intimidated by the details. Just look for the main ideas. Take good notes in class and you will have an easier time writing the essays! office hours extracredit
As someone who is not particularly religious, I was not sure what to expect from this class. However, professor Elder made the New Testament interesting, straightforward, and at times even fun to learn through his short lectures, group activities, and papers with clear expectations. He also offers 0.5% of extra credit each time you go into his offi
I would absolutely take Dr. Elder again. There were reading assignments for every class, but they were not a bad exchange for having a classy and hardworking professor who will give you extra credit for showing up to office hours! Do the work and essays and you will have no regrets!
At first I was extremely skeptical when I walked into Dr. Elder's class on the first day. I quickly realized that he is a very funny guy, and the way he taught theology made it easy for not only the students to understand, but for the students to make deeper and more thought out correlations. The homework is busy work, and attendance is required.
Fairly boring class but still an interesting professor. Quite a bit of outside work but overall a cool guy.
He was great at giving chances for extra credit. The system for getting extra credit was well organized and really helped me understand concepts I needed more information on. If you put in the effort to this class you will get the grade you want it is as simple as that.
Dr. Elder is a very kind guy and his class is not too tough but not super easy either. He is a pretty easy grader as long as you show you put effort into the assignments. The homework assignments are a lot of long readings but there's usually only a couple questions you have to answer. Would recommend.
Good teacher and really tries to make class interesting by changing up lectures so it's not boring. He provides extra credit by simply going to meet with him outside class to ask questions. If you come to class and do the homework, you will do well in the class.
Reading assignments due before every class but can be done within an hour. Reading assignments and class attendance account for just under half of the grade with a midterm and three short essays making up the rest. Rewards attending office hours with meaningful questions with extra credit. Definitely puts effort in and prepares for his classes.
Dr. Elder is overall a really nice guy. He is young and with the times, but makes you work for your grade. The midterm was take home which was so nice and the papers can be done in a few hours with some effort. It's an "easy" A if you work for it and he gives extra credit for going to office hours.
Dr. Elder was a wonderful and bright professor who made class engaging and very enjoyable to attend. He will help you learn a lot and make sure that no one falls behind that wants to maintain a good grade.
Loved Dr. Elder, would definitely take his class again!
Really nice guy. It isn't hard to do well if you go to class
Dr. Elder is an extremely knowledgeable professor who cares about the learning of his students. He often gives good feedback on the many homework assignments that are due. There are a fair amount of assignments, but they are all doable provided you read the subject martial. This class covers some very interesting subjects that I was not expecting.
Dr. Elder is a great professor, he made this theology course really enjoyable and not stressful at all. The final test was a project that was easy, and the other tests were super clear and he is super clear with what you need to study. Definitely recommend him. He is good at teaching and is really understanding and nice to students!
Dr. Elder was great and he made theology so much better than I thought it would be. His expectations for what you need to know for exams are very clear which was very helpful. There was homework every night but it didn't take long and was very manageable. I would definitely take this class again. You will not regret having him as a professor.
Dr. Elder is a good professor, he is very clear during lecture and very well organized. The final project was relatively easy, and his exams were always based on lecture content. However, there is a reading every day for homework, which can sometimes be tedious and take up some time.
Theo1001H is a really good course. I learned a lot of new and interesting information. There was homework due every class period, but it wasn't't super hard just helped students better understand the topic we would be discussing in the following class.
Hes awesome & I would recommend him to anyone. Its a lot of work but if you stay up on it youll be able to get an easy A. Also he offers extra credit with office hours so do that also!
Dr. Elder is a really passionate teacher. There's plenty of opportunities to get a good grade in this class. However, you should expect reading assignments every night with writing responses. It becomes to feel repetitive, but it's also effective. Attendance is not mandatory, but "walk-ins" that you do every day are part of your grade.
Dr. Elder was very relaxed and easy to listen to in class. The content moves a bit slow, but there is a lot of it. Be sure to keep up with your readings so you don't fall behind (even though towards the beginning of the semester it feels impossible)!
Professor Elder was a very cool guy and he clearly laid out what he expected from his students. He clearly tells you what will be on the tests and provides you with the essay questions before. There is homework every night but it is not difficult. Some of the readings are just dense but are very doable.
Dr. Elder is a great professor. He is straightforward with what he asks for, and fair in his grading. There is homework due every class, but it was not too hard. Sometimes it took a long time, but it helped if you did it. If you show up to class and pay attention you should realistically do well in the class as long as you do the homeowork.
This professor was a very good professor. This professor makes sure that all students are learning and retaining material. Overall, this was a very enjoyable class.
This was the most enjoyable intro to Theology class that I can imagine Marquette has. Dr. Elder made every class interesting and informative. For anyone needing to take a theology class, I recommend trying to find a section where Dr. Elder is the professor!
Dr. Elder is a very straight forward professor who cars about his students and gets to know them. He offers extra credit by going to his office hours and ask him 2 questions from class. His exams are based on the objectives in class and even gives a study guide and a review day before the exam. Highly recommend taking him if you can!
Dr. Elder was an amazing teacher. I would take him again for any other class. Expect to have reading assignments every night and a "Walk in" assignment before class. This is how he records attendance. Although the reading assignments are a pain they are very effective for learning. He grades them fairly easy. Every exam also has an essay.
Dr. Elder was a great professor. I wasn't looking forward to taking a theology class, but it ended up being interesting. There are homework assignments every night, but they take maximum 20 minutes. Attendance isn't really mandatory, but he shows prezi's everyday with literally all the information that is on the tests. Overall, good class.
Dr. Elder makes a point to get to know each of his students. He greets everyone with a handshake and addresses them by name. Everyday there is some form of outside reading. Usually these aren't too bad, but they can get a bit lengthy. There is always a response to the reading, so make sure you actually do the reading. Overall I would take him again
His style of teaching is very vivid. You will definitely learn a lot from this class. He definitely gave me a more positive image on Theology. Props to him for trying to crack jokes. Go outside of class hours to see him. It really helps with the content and getting to know him better. Otherwise, the class is pretty straightforward.
Dr. Professor was a great professor semester-round. His slides provide all the information you know and his explanations are clear-cut and accurate. Dr. Elder's use of recall throughout the semester makes sure that you really understand the content for the inevitable tests. But the tests are really fair. Stick to the test study guides.
Dr. Elder is a truly caring professor and wants his students to succeed. He uses classes at the end of the semester to use theological knowledge gained in the class to look at a very brief, basic history of race in Milwaukee. Overall, a great professor who really expands theology to the world around us, bringing in relevant issues beyond class.
Dr. Elder is a great professor; caring, understanding, makes theology fun, and is a very fair grader. I enjoyed this class and coming from someone who did not know much about theo, I learned a lot because of Dr. Elder. I always felt comfortable around him in asking questions and would absolutely take him again.
Dr. Elder is truly a fantastic professor who cares about his students. There is a fair bit of work, but you will get a good grade if you keep up; none of it is difficult. He always keeps class intriguing and interesting, and genuinely wants to have a great relationship with his students.
Professor Elder knows how to run a class. He makes sure all the students are keeping up to date by giving daily assignments (which are very easy as long as you do the reading). He also gives an incentive to go to class by giving points for attendance each day. Although there may be a lot of assignments and busy work, the class was very manageable.
Professor Elder, Is the perfect example of what it means to be an educator. He is the only professor I have ever had that shakes your hand every single day. As small of a gesture that is, that goes a long way in my relationship with my professor. He is passionate about what he teaches and continually keeps students engaged. Would highly recommend.
Really good class. Would 100% recommend taking any class with Dr. Elder. There was a good amount of homework, usually every night before class, but was fairly straightforward and easy. The in class lectures were always easy to follow and the review sessions before tests were money. Dr. Elder showed a true passion and was great. Highly recommended.
Dr. Nick Elder is easily one of my favorite professors that I have ever taken at Marquette University. His class was always enjoyable and his passion for teaching was evident. I recommend every student that needs to take a theology class to be sure to choose a class where he is an instructor.
Hes a happy soul that know something the content well, he misses that with a sense of humor and youll be able to sit through the entire lecture.
Professor Elder is incredibly receptive to feedback and alters the course to fit our needs as students. He only gives 2 exams and no in-class quizzes but gives a lot of other opportunities for points with the take-home work. Professor Elder allows us to do a lot of small group work during class rather than the typical lecture and discussion.
Dr. Elder is a great professor. He is very genuine and cares about all his students. Every class he makes it a point to shake everyone's hand and it shows how much he cares. Plus, the class is laid out very nicely in his syllabus, everything is in there and very clear, especially his grading criteria and attendance policy. What a guy.
Really cool and funny guy. I think he's like 35 so he gets us. I made lots of memes and a comic strip. We watched movie clips and had different mediums to help us all learn in different ways. I had no knowledge about the New Testament but actually learned sooooooo much. would definitely recommend him for 2nd level theology at Marquette.
Professor Elder made theology lectures engaging and interesting. He was able to explain concepts in a way that was easier to understand. He brought in fun but relevant ways to teach. For example, lots of memes were used throughout the semester. Each lecture structure was unique and ultimately interesting.
Easy class as long as you do homework and readings. Several opportunities for extra credit. Very straightforward on what you need to do to succeed.
Dr. Elder is a great professor, he turns a boring subject into one that the whole class is interested in, and he is probably your best option for your upper level Theology elective at Marquette. There is daily homework assignments, but they are never long. Make sure to utilize his study guides they definitely help with the tests.
Good guy, seems to really care about students, made theology interesting with use of relevant references and anecdotes. Homework every night but it doesn't take long to do if you have the text book, which you need to get to do a majority of the assignments.
Professor Elder is a really good professor, he makes each class really interesting with different forms of teaching. Make sure to do the readings before class.
Great professor who has clear guidelines and objectives of what to get out of his class. The lectures are discussion based but he uses a variety of activities to make the class interesting. He gives study guides with questions that are directly on the exam so if you understand the study guide its a pretty easy A. Overall Solid Teacher!
Dr. Elder is very organized and follows his syllabus precisely. The class isn't really that much work, it's just short readings and short assignments before most classes. As long as you do those short readings, do the assignments, and show up to class, there's no reason why you shouldn't receive an A. Also very interesting content.
Dr. Elder is one of my favorite professers at Marquette. His lectures typically include some sort of activity so it's not always a lecture, and when they are he keeps them interesting and engaging. He genuinely cares about students and gets to know everyone over the course of the semester. Definitely take him if you can!
Dr. Elder is a great professor because he clearly cares about his students learning and well being. He comes up with unique and fun ways to teach his content. There is homework every night which can get repetitive, but the homework ties directly to what is on the midterm and final exam. Would recommend him to anyone
Dr. Elder is a great guy and has fantastic interactive lectures. It is not hard to get a good grade, and he always encourages to go to office hours (you might get a few extra points if you do). He makes theology very interesting; I highly recommend taking his class.
Dr. Elder is a great Theology professor especially if you aren't super familiar with Catholic church and tradition. The class is very attendance and homework heavy which makes it easier to get a good grade just by showing up and completing assignments. Test are straightforward but writing-heavy which is fine as long as you practice objectives.
Dr. Elder is a great professor. Not only does he cover a lot of objectives related to theology, but his class is hands on and he finds ways for students to integrate material in class. He offers extra credit and his tests are very fair if you follow the objectives and pay attention in class.
My favorite professor this semester! Class was fun with lecture because of his use of Prezis rather than powerpoint. He is available at all times, responds to emails quickly. Very kind and generous and lastly very respectful towards his students. I felt very comfortable in class along with my peers at my table. He is very encouraging
My favorite thing about Dr. Elder and his theology course is how clear it is. He has learning objectives for each day, and those learning objectives are the study guide for exams. No tricks. Theology wasn't the most interesting to me but he made it the best it could be. Good lectures, nice guy.
Honesty, I was not excited to take theo. I came into the class expecting to read biblical texts 24/7 and blow my brains out from boring lectures. By the end of the semester, I truly loved the course. I'm more open-minded to theo and it's significance/ impact on society thanks to Elder. He was the best theo prof EVER. He truly cares about education
Dr. Elder is a great professor! He clearly cares a lot about his students and the course content. He makes learning interesting and provides many opportunities for help both in class and in office hours. Would recommend!
He makes class interesting and engaging, there is homework due every day but it usually isn't too hard and is always relevant to what it going on in class. If you pay attention and show up its an easy A. Easily accessible outside of class and genuinely cares about the content and how well you do with it.
Dr. Elder is a kind professor. He uses a variety of modes of teaching (lectures and slides, group activities, review games) that allows for something for every student. There are opportunities for extra credit, and Dr. Elder makes himself available. Some readings are long, but they are guided readings and the main points are reviewed in class.
Dr. Elder is always willing to explain things a second time. He encourages office hours visitation and offers extra credit if you do so. His class is well structured thanks to his clear objectives for each class that test questions are based off of. He is very nice and tries to stay impartial, leading students to their own conclusions.
Dr. Elder is a good professor, and he always makes the expectations for class objectives from the lesson very clear at the beginning of each day. Exam questions are created based on these objectives, making it much easier to know what to study when preparing.
Easily one of the best theology professors I have had. Most people take this class as a madatory core class, but he made it interesting and easy to learn in. He also really cares about his students and tries to get to know them when he can. He offers extra credit for going to his office hours which is nice
Dr. Elder was a fantastic professor. Expectations of the students are presented clearly and nothing he will ask of you is unreasonable. The only thing that got to be annoying was the volume of reading/assignments due every night; which got to be tedious while juggling 4 other classes.
Dr. Elder is a really great professor. He makes a mandatory class very interesting. As long as you show up and do the work you should do well in his class.
Dr. Elder is a very nice professor. He cares about you and will help you. There are a lot of homework assignments but they prepare you for the exams.
This class was as simple as any theology class should be. Exams involved a lot of regurgitation of information with self-reflection thrown in here and there. I did not purchase a textbook, we only read from it once or twice so I just got the readings from someone else. The class is straightforward and can be a breeze if you stay on top of things.
Overall great professor. There are homework assignments assigned every day but they are short. If you do the work, attend his office hours for the extra credit, fill out the exam study guides prior to the review day you will have no problem getting the grade you strive for.
Dr. Elder is a professor who is cares about his students and wants them to do well. He has objectives that he wants you to be able to answer for each class. These objectives make it easy to know what to expect on the test. There are readings and short assignments for almost every class, but they are more annoying than difficult.
Half of your grade is based off of homework and class attendance. There is homework due almost every day, but it is easy 10-15 minute homework. There are 3 exams and as long as you look over the study guide, you will do well.
Prof. Elder is a hip theology teacher who makes it 'fun' and makes you want to learn. You will ace the tests if you prepare for them- the study guide only has the things you need to know, no curve balls. Attendance is basically mandatory, but that's just easy points! Go to class and do the readings and you will pass with an A
Gives good lectures and offers lots of help outside of class. I hate theology but the class was actually okay because of Dr. Elder.
I specifically made sure I had Dr. Elder as my PHIL 1001 professor because I saw his rate my professor ratings and I was not disappointed. His style of lecturing is easy to follow along with. He makes it very known exactly what's on every exam. And if you want to you can easily get upwards of 8% extra credit from him too. Great class and teacher!
Dr. Elder does a good job of giving the important information and explaining topics so everyone can understand. There is homework (lengthy readings and an assignment for each reading) before every class. I had a MWF class so it felt like a lot of work. Gives all of the short answer questions for tests in his daily objectives - very nice!
Theology was a lot more fun and interesting than I expected it to be and that is because of Dr. Elder. Easily one of the most caring and understanding professors Ive had, which made coming to class a lot easier. Study guides give exactly what is expected for exams, weekly readings and homework sometimes take time but are definitely reasonable.
I had a good experience in Dr. Elder's class. He has a very clear grading rubric for almost every assignment. If you pay attention during the lectures, and particularly the objectives you should be set for the exams. There is homework, but it should not take you a lot of time. Accessible for office hours and does his best to get to know you.
Hes a great teacher. Doesnt give loaded work like essays but instead gives simple homework everyday. Attendance is important, but I really enjoyed the class. You can tell he puts in the work to help you if your struggle and he gives many extra credit opportunities.
I really enjoyed taking this class. What I liked most about it is that Dr. Elder was always there if I was confused about a topic and he also would ask us our opinions about this class, in order for him to improve, and find what works best in the class and what doesnt. And he actually takes our opinions into account and strives to better his teachi
Great teacher who really cares about the class and his students. Readings and short assingments for each class, but easily gives everyone a 100% of assignments and partcipation. Lots of lecturing but he also switches things up with group activites. He explains everything really well, so its a great class for those who don't know theology very well.
He set you up for success. He makes the content very easy to understand and keeps the class interesting. Great professor overall and listens to student feedback.
There's a lot of homework but it is manageable and only takes about 30 minutes. The tests are reasonable because he tells you exactly what to expect. Just show up to class and study a little bit before each exam and you will get the grade you want.
Dr. Elder makes theology easier to understand. If you are struggling to understand he is available during his office hours where he can clarify in more detail. The exams are straightforward as long as you utilize the study guide. There is homework every night which may seem like a lot but it gets you to understand the content plus easy points!
While there is a reading and homework for almost every class, this provides foundational knowledge helpful for the class and exams and is graded more based on effort and not accuracy. As a professor, he uses a variety of teaching methods and activities which make the class more interesting and enjoyable and makes his expectations clear.
