Great prof!
Enjoyed the class environment, he encourages participation. Loved the topic. Tests are fair.
Very insightful and brings a positive atmosphere to the classroom.
Great prof, lectures are clear & interesting, exams are fair.
He was a funny teacher that was very easy going, though there are a lot of readings it's pretty straight forwards as long as you keep up with the readings. He actively puts us to participate in groups which I thought would suck but turned out really good. Overall really knowledgeable professor
Amazing professor. Cares about students. Promotes an engaging learning environment and is passionate about what he does. Fair course breakdowns.
Interesting lectures
His lecture delivery isn't as sophisticated as I would have liked. He gets his points across however the manner in which he conveys his ideas and the concepts isn't creative, and doesn't lead to a very engaging lecture.
Great guy, lecture were clear and interesting, would definitely take a class with him again
The professor is very clear in his teaching style and explains the lecture content very well! I would definitely recommend this course for everyone.
Really good professor. He could talk about how paint dries and make it interesting. He also holds himself as an equal to his students. 50/50 textbook and lecture based tests.
Nice :)
Easy on the eyes ;)
My favourite profs throughout my undergraduate experience, makes the content interesting and is very understanding with marking. Genuinely seems to care about the students and strives to increase participation.
Young. Intelligent. Genuine. Fair. May leave your girlfriend reconsidering her choice. Put forth some effort and you will be rewarded.
He's a great teacher. Very down to earth and easy to talk to which helps a lot. Replies to emails fairly quickly which is always good. There are weekly assignments, group work and a final paper. It's not a hard class, but you will need to put in the effort. Hes a very fair marker. I really enjoyed the class overall I'd take more of his classes :)
Very interesting professor! You can really tell he's into what he does. Shares interesting concepts related to course ideas (current ongoing research, movies etc.) Gives really good feedback and allows a lot of room for creativity for group presentation. He held a really helpful discussion of what do after university which was nice and informative!
Great professor! His class was one of the most interesting ones I have taken in my entire undergrad career. I would definitely take another class with him. He genuinely cares about his role and his students. He is very respectful and fair to the class. No complaints.
Awesome prof! Great speaker, lectures are interesting, very approachable. Textbook needed.
Great prof! Very interesting lectures and material. Very approachable. Need to attend both lectures and read the textbook, however exams and grades are very fair. :) Hands down one of the best courses I've taken in undergrad, would highly recommend to anyone.
Truly an amazing instructor. I took this course as a fun and interesting course to do apart from my required classes, and I have to say that I it was exactly that. Nick was determined for us to learn the material, he incorporated 'real-world examples' to make it interesting, but most of all, he is fun, tests fair, and just wants to have fun!
Great Professor not only were his lecture nice, the way he explains and expands on topics really lets you understand what the course is looking to teach and also makes you think of the world in a totally different way. You can't do that well in the class without doing both.
Specifically writes M/C questions different than most other professors, really specific to things in textbook/lec or questions that make you apply concepts to examples not discussed in class. Hard to adapt but luckily gave 2 midterms to make the adjustment.
Hands down my favourite professor! He uses "real-life" examples to explain important materials, that are easy to remember for midterms and final. Questions were based on both textbook AND lectures. Very friendly, and extremely nice. When you need a someone older's POV on life or even other psych courses as a prof, he is the guy!
One of the best profs I have had at UTSC. Lectures are captivating and he puts a lot of work into making them so. He relates the topics back to Toronto, current events, and interesting/funny videos to allow students to apply the material in their lives. We're going to miss you!!! 3
Hands down one if the greatest profs! I learned a lot in his classes- and theyre so relevant!
The best Psych prof I've had! He tries to make the class fun and interactive. Love the relevant and interesting videos he uses in lectures as well :)
Very likable guy, psychology is such a fluff discipline, though
Presents a lot of interesting examples in class, and really builds strong evidence for what he's teaching where you find yourself applying it everywhere you go. So I would say it's really easy to find yourself enjoying the class because of just that.
Amazing lecturer - good clarification, really cares (offers additional help to students with career advice); exams were intriguing just like the lectures, interesting mc questions. A fair professor who cares about relating information to reality to bring a real strong take home message! The fact hes so likable makes you enjoy learning more too :)
An amazing professor, his delivery was good and also used humour to entertain us. His exams are fair and you would need to study both the lectures and textbook.
Such an amazing professor! You can see the passion for what he teaches in the way he lectures. Very knowledgeable and explains the topics clearly so that it's understandable to the students. Also gives excellent feedback, and is helpful overall for both academic and career related topics. Friendly, funny, and inspiring. (:
I normally don't rate professors but I feel an exception is warranted in Professor Hobson's case. I have had him for a few classes now and can honestly say he is an excellent professor. He is very knowledgeable and has unique life experiences which make lectures interesting Grade wise he is a very fair marker, an A is not hard to get with hard work
Everyone has a favourite high school teacher similarly HE IS MY FAVOURITE UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR.
I loved Professor Hobson as a lecturer. The content was always interesting and he is a great lecturer. The textbook was also fairly interesting. Course is marked based off of 3 exams. He uses a lot of application questions, so memorize your stuff, but also be prepared to apply it to scenarios. Exam questions make you think hard sometimes.
Nick is hands down the best professor I had at UTSC! His lectures are very easy to understand, and he includes examples that students can relate to/understand. He is a very humble guy, and a hilarious prof! Made me LOL a couple of times during lecture. Sad to see him leave, but it works out because it's my final semester too! Huge respect for him.
Professor Hobson is not only knowledgeable in his field, but he is also a very good instructor. One of his important characteristic, which, unfortunately, lack most professor at the University of Toronto, is that he barely reads from slides. He is clear, professional, and caring in regards to his profession and students. More Professors like Him !
Amazing prof! I only watched him over weboption but he was able to keep my attention & keep me interested. Kept the lectures engaging & exciting. So sad to know he's leaving this year - but would definitely take him again! Loved him!
Only disappointing feature of this course is that I didn't get to experience Nick in person. Even through online lectures, you can tell he really cares about his students and wants everyone to do well. Very enjoyable and easy to listen to, and always adds little interactive sessions or fun extras. Would definitely take a class with him again!
I'm so sad that he's leaving. He was one of the best proff I've had at UTSC. As others have pointed out he's very caring and the fact that he doesn't read off of slides makes his lectures more engaging. The only complaint I have is that the papers given, some of them were too neuro based for non-psych students like me.
A pretty good prof who is very passionate about his field. He really knows how to make things more applicable
Professor Hobson is an amazing lecturer. He does not read of the slides at all. He knows he content extremely well and is very engaging. I actually looked forward to watching each lecture. I wish he was still teaching as he got a job after finishing his PhD. If only UofT hired more profs like him. One of the best professor at UofT's psych departmen
Exams got harder but still manageable, if you study lectures and reading you can do really well in the course.
He's a pretty decent prof who really knows his stuff. I learned a ton of stuff from his class, but unfortunately, his exams are very picky. they test on the super nitty/gritty stuff and not overall takeaways. I was the one teaching all of this stuff to my friends while studying, and I don't think the tests adequately assessed what I've learned.
Nick is a great prof and TA! Sad that he will be leaving but thoroughly enjoyed PSYC02 and PSYC14 with him, engaging, fun, easy to approach :) liked his courses
My favourite prof so far! He makes lectures very interesting and connects the material to everyday life. Exams are fair. Would definitely take him again!
Great prof! very knowledgeable in the course material. The exams are straightforward and easy to do well. Mc exams that are based on the textbook mostly and some questions from the slides. Overall good course.
I had Nick for both PSYC13 and PSYD15. He's a great prof and genuinely cares for his students. The class was thoroughly engaging and unlike other classes, he gave lots of tips on how we could improve our work ethic and communication skills. Super chill personality and easy to talk to! 10/10 would recommend taking a D level with him.
Overall very caring and helps his students. His coursework reflects the teaching material and doesn't try to trick or screw students out of marks like other profs in uoft. Hope to see him in future courses
Absolutely amazing class, and even better professor. There were weekly readings and reflections on recent research articles. Very interactive class with a group leading the discussion on the aforementioned articles every week. Course ended with debates and a research paper. Very approachable and compassionate. Not an easy grader, but very fair.
Awesome prof! He cares for his students, super approachable and helpful, and makes sure his classes are very engaging. He got us thinking about the topics of rituals and religion in ways that carry on beyond this class. Would definitely take another course with him.
Really great prof! I took PSYC14 and PSYD15 with him and they were both super interesting! He is pretty fair about grades but you gotta work hard for them. Definitely one of the best psych profs at UTSC :)
Nick is an amazing lecturer, you can tell he is knowledgeable and passionate about his research. His guidelines aren't written that clearly, but he is always willing to explain. He makes himself very accessible for course clarification and conversation in general.
Great Professor, really cares about his students and makes sure they understand the lecture material!
Assignment outlines are very vague and doesn't specify what he wants. Sometimes he doesn't even include an outline at all, he just simply gives us the rubric and tell us to follow according to the rubric. Marks very hard on assignments and on presentations.
He's super chill and down to earth. His lectures are engaging and even though it was a 9 am lecture it was worth attending. He is understanding and wants the best for everyone.
Nick is an amazing lecturer and simply, a wonderful human being. His exams are extremely fair and there are no surprises, whatever he assigned as readings or whatever he covered in lectures will show up SO KNOW THEM! You'll love every moment of this class and leave it not only being more knowledgeable, but more human.
His lectures are AMAZING, because you can tell he really enjoys what he's teaching and is really invested in the course himself. Tests are mostly easy if you study the material properly and pay attention during his lectures.
I took the Cultural Psychology class and it was pretty chill. Cool teacher and learned a lot from him.
Amazing Prof! Follow his lectures and readings and the course will be a breeze. Very easy to understand, and makes the course interesting.
Everything in the class was explained properly and Professor Nick answered all questions and is very knowledgable. The lectures were not boring and he is very competent.
One of the best Psychology profs I have had so far during my University experience. His way of teaching is very enjoyable, makes you think of the content outside of class. not to mention Professor Nick is very passionate and knowledge. Highly recommend taking any course he teach, you will not regret!
Great Professor that is conveys information in a very passionate way. It was never a dull moment for me. Reading textbook is very important to pass the course. Pay attention to details in text and lectures, I made a lot of silly mistakes in my test because I put too much focus on memorizing definitions as opposed to understanding concepts.
Just a great handsome man giving great quality lectures
Amazing lectures, very interesting and a very caring professor.
One of the BEST profs I have ever had at UTSC, who genuinely cares about his students, shares his personal experiences/advice and most importantly, makes the course interesting! Also, one of the best courses I have taken at UTSC. Highly recommend this class.
Just a good looking guy doing what he really does best. fantastic lecturer and very fair exams. Lectures are important, make sure you know the studies from the lecture, make sure you know concepts rather than definitions. Would 100% recommend.
Amazing Prof, course outline is structured well. Really interesting lectures, relates it to real life examples. He really cares about his student's and very responsive to emails!
Lectures were very interesting and fun.
One of the best profs I've ever had, really cares about his students and tries to make sure everyone does well.
a real gem very interested in his work so that comes through and makes learning the material even more fun a 10/10 fellow
By far the best prof Ive had and I think the best Ill ever have. His lectures are amazing and he explains the concepts in the course very clearly making it easier to understand, the material is also very interesting. I highly recommend.
I truly enjoyed having PSYC14 Nick. He is always a very charismatic, interesting lecturer who genuinely cares about students in his class - he mentioned many times being available to talk about grad school or give references if need be. Class was easy - do your readings + pay attention, you'll do well. Very interesting lectures & fair tests!
Amazing prof, knows what hes teaching and the plus point is that he is extremely hot which can be distracting at times. Definitely recommend this course, you wont regret
Really enjoyed his lectures, also one of the best psych profs in utsc.
GONNA MISS YOU NICK
Awesome prof! Nick makes lecturers a breeze to watch (I took the online section of this class). He is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject matter, extremely charismatic and also just happens to be super dishy. His exams were fair and I genuinely hope I can take more classes with him in the future.
I've taken C85, C19 and C12 with Hobson and honestly he's my favourite prof. He takes a while to answer emails but is super helpful if you talk to him during office hours or after class. Makes lectures fun
Inspirational in-class discussions, really helpful to associate the concepts learned with real world problems together :)
Loved Nick! He made watching lectures fun, and the course itself was super interesting and applicable to everyday life. He really changed the way I see the world, which doesn't happen often. Definitely will be taking more of his classes!
Don't be scared by the numerous papers and heavy textbook material--his lectures do a great job of explaining everything clearly. He's funny and openly relatable.
He's an amazing professor, probably one of my favourite psych profs at UTSC. His lectures are very clear, concise and do a great job of summarizing readings. The readings can get pretty heavy, but his exams pull directly from them in a very straightforward way. Also, he's very approachable during office hours and always willing to help!
Amazing professor! He genuinely cares about his students and his very approachable! Amazing lectures and even though the readings seem a lot they really complement the lecture content so it isn't that bad!
One of my fav professors! Content is taught well and exams are very fair. Id recommend taking as many of his classes as you can!
Great lectures!
Awesome prof. Very fun and insightful lectures
Very good prof. Explains all course content well and exams are very reasonable. Definitely will take a class with him again!
Tends to move very quickly with his content but other than that he was great!
One of THE best profs at UTSC, this is not an opinion. It's a fact. If you don't agree cash me ousside.
I think he's probably one of the fairest profs there is even when it comes to the controversial things in the course itself.
I loved listening to his lectures, he explains the course content really clearly and makes it interesting. He seems like a genuinely nice guy and I hope I can be in his class again in the future!
He's a straight forward prof who cares about the feedback students give him. One thing to note for the exams: you really really have to pay attention to your readings. He will ask you for details, and will word them on the test in a way that have you go, "I thought I knew this well but i don't. Also be prepared to think deeply for the questions.
I really enjoyed his class. His exams were fair, but you do need to study to do well on them! Be prepared to read, you have to do the readings to do well as it is not mostly lecture based... i would say its 50/50, which HE DOES SAY in class, so no surprises there. I enjoyed his class, he is very caring and cares about students.
Exams were really easy. I got above 90+ in them... barely had to study. He makes the course interesting.
great prof! one of my fav
This prof was nice when he first started at UTSC. Recently became snobby and not very encouraging. His exams are heavily textbook based and his lectures don't help at all. He's the type of prof to make you remember percentages for exams.
The course was based on 2 midterms and final (all mcq). His tests' were based on lectures, articles, and textbook. Had to know specific details. Super nice guy. Enjoys what he teaches.
He's not a terrible lecturer, but he's not very engaging and sometimes he can talk about a subject for a long period of time. Tests are difficult and require a lot of thinking. Textbook is a must and its not exactly an easy read. Outlines for assignment and tests don't help. Overall, not too bad, but there are better professors.
HE IS HONESTLY ONE OF THE BEST PROFS AT UTSC. His lectures are super engaging, and he is very funny as well. Sadly I was in weboption, and couldnt experience in class. Studying mainly the lectures, and just skimming through the textbook researchs and results helped!
Nick is a great professor. He puts in a lot of effort to relate concepts to real life situations as an attempt to help students understand better. His tests do not have tricks but can be reading heavy. Strongly recommend.
Took a bunch of courses with Nick including D lvl seminar course. He is always disorganized, comes late to class often, syllabus contradicts what he says in class and grading criteria is always unclear. He is also not reachable outside class, sent a bunch of emails never got back to me. More of a researcher than a teacher.
One of the best professors at UTSC. I would recommend any course he teaches. His exams are fair and he effectively explains things during lecture. Likewise, he is also very approachable and kind.
