He is extremely hard!!!! So much homework, the tests were so hard everyone failed, and now he made the quizzes hard too to match the tests! Crazy!!!!! And I am an A student usually. I am dying.
horrible... will help you if you go to office hours, but in class doesn't do a good job and goes through material too quickly. Tests and homework are hard and not helpful in explaining material.
He is a horrible teacher, he can not teach. Half of his answer keys are wrong and his tests are insanely hard. He does not give you enough time to finish the exam and he pulls out random question. He does not prepare you for the exams and he does not prepare you for the acs final. DO NOT TAKE, there are so many good chem 101 teachers.
The average for our first test was one point above failing. I do all the homework, attend SI sessions, and take notes in class but still do not do well on the tests. He also isn't preparing us for the ACS final. Sure, we're doing multiple choice tests now, but I've heard his test is not similar to the ACS at all.
If you do bad on tests, don't take his class. The quizzes, homework, and participation have very little to do with your grade. There is three tests and one final and the tests themselves are worth 80% of your grade. The tests are not easy as the test average for the very first test was around 69% with the majority of the grades under a C.
I enjoyed chemistry, but he makes it hard to like it anymore. His slides are overwhelming and he goes over them so fast that it's hard to grasp all the information. His tests are long and hard to finish on time, and test grades make up most of your final grade. Other CHEM101 students are doing just fine with other professors.
He isn't the best teacher, but everyone else here is exaggerating. It is manageable to get an A if you put the appropriate amount of work needed. His quizzes and tests are easy ONLY if you study. That being said to do well on the tests, you need to put over 5 hours of work and memorize every little bit on ppts, EVERYTHING. you get what you put in.
Absolutely hated this class. I did better on the quizzes teaching myself than him teaching me. He goes over the slides way too fast and expects everyone to know what is going on before even teaching any of the material. His tests are super hard and is nothing like what he teaches in class.
Dr.K is a nice and great guy, but he goes through slides way too fast and his slides aren't really helpful. His answer keys tend to be wrong a lot of the times and when i go to CLS tutoring they don't even know what he is doing. He replaces your lowest test score w the final &drops the lowest quiz but that probs wont be enough. gluck if u get him.
Dr. K is a nice guy, but he is one of the worst chemistry teachers that I have ever had. I am a chemistry major and he makes this subject beyond dry and dreadful. He only lectures and his class is not interactive. He quizzes on content that is barely addressed during lecture. Homework is lengthy and it's graded the same as quizzes are.
i dont even know what to say. Worst teacher ever
Dr. K is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Yes, there's a lot of work you have to put in, but the quizzes and tests are super easy if you study. He's a good professor because even if you find material difficult, he will make time for you after class and during office hours to help. His lectures go into how to solve every problem step-by-step.
Dr. K is a great person; however, his homework is unnecessarily lengthy, and his lectures tend to go into too much detail to the point where he doesn't have very much time to go in-depth with the test material. Some of the tools that he uses aren't extremely supportive, which makes it difficult to obtain a stable grade in the class.
not gonna lie, it's difficult sometimes to stay attentive during his lectures, but he's breaks every concept down and he's very accessible outside of class. if you're having a rough time, he always put his notes, keys, and other study materials online. sometimes it's confusing on what to know for quizzes, and you need to work for a good grade.
This class definitely makes you work for the grade. That being said if you pay attention in class, do the homework, and read the textbook (a little) you should be able to an A. But in terms of a 101 class there are easier classes. Don't take it if you have other options.
This class was very challenging even with going to office hours, TA office hours, SI, and only missing class once I struggled. The tests are much harder than they need to be and it is hard to be prepared. But the hard tests prepared me well for the ACS which was much easier than his tests.
Personality wise, he is a nice guy. But he isn't one of the best professors out here for chemistry. For Chem 101, it should be a fairly easy course but he made it way harder than it needed to be. He doesn't teach the material well and just reads over the slides, expecting people to just know the material.
i don't know who gave a 4 star rating because its a lie. Don't listen to it.
Do not believe whoever gave him a 4-star rating. Worst professor I have ever had. He has no clue what he is talking about. Stay away at all costs.
Wish I could rate higher, but he' not very effective. He's a very pleasant man and willing to spend time outside of class, but that's the only way you're going to learn. People in my section stopped coming to class altogether because youtube was better at explaining the material than Prof K was. He also tends to quiz on things he hasn't taught yet
I had Dr. K. during the semester that was derailed by the coronavirus. During that time, Dr. K. was incredibly diligent in communicating with the students, which was a huge blessing. I always felt like I knew what was going on in that class bc despite everything that was going on.
I don't usually do these but I had to take time out of my day to emphasize that THIS WAS THE WORST PROFESSOR IVE EVER HAD. The Hw alone took 4 hours and the quizzes were impossible.
I had him his first semester of teaching at VCU. His exams were too long to begin with and he realized his mistake but didn't do much about it. I'm genuinely good at and throughly has always enjoyed chem, but he made me hate it. He moved too fast during his lectures, although he is willing to explain and help after class.
Dr. K had a rough start during Fall 2020, but I had him in the spring and he was great. His lectures were easy to understand and not as boring as they could be. He gives Learning Catalytics questions during class for credit. When school ended early (thanks to COVID-19), he made the transition very smooth. Would def recommend.
would 100% NOT recommend.
an absolute piece of work and the worst professor ever. gives tests on things not taken and is a tough grader. barely got an A through youtube. but still an awful class. don't take it at any cost.
Extremely straight forward and easy. He gave bonus points for every quiz, both exams, and every single homework. You also only need to get 50/100 points for learning catalystics to get full mark for it. Easiest A if you bother to show up to class. Even if you miss half of the classes, probably still an easy B.
Whenever I had questions he was very approachable and would help me in a way that I would understand it. You definitely have to put effort into this class but he does seem very passionate about Chemistry which made it easier to pay attention.
PLEASE do yourself a favor and just don't. Professor Kuklinski is a nice person but a nightmare of a professor. The exams are extremely difficult and no matter how terribly the class performs on an exam, he makes no adjustments for the next one. If you do decide you hate yourself and choose to take him, at least make that semester a light one.
Dr. K is one of the newer professors here and I had the pleasure of taking his class for his first semester teaching at VCU. There were some mistakes made but he is always open to hear his students' feedback AND ALSO ACT ON THEM AS WELL! This makes him a really valuable professor to take overall. Lots of memes! Lots of homework too but its doable.
Dr. K is absolutely amazing. Even though Chemistry is not by any means my strongest subject, he definitely gave me the tools and information to be able to pass this class. He is also very funny and lives by memes. I will actually be taking his class for CHEM102 next semester. His lectures are long but they are very good. Definitely recommend!!
The tests were much harder than any of the homework assigned throughout the year... which doesnt make much sense to me. The textbook was not very helpful, but better than his lecture videos. My tutor taught me a lot better than his lectures and the textbook combined!
Dr. K is really nice, but his tests are significantly more difficult than the homework assignments and covered more material than his lectures did. He's also not good at explaining the material. I took this asynchronously and watched all lectures, took extensive notes, completed practice problems and exams, did the homework, and barely got an A.
I dont know why he got so many bad reviews. Personally, I really liked both his personality and his style of teaching. Its a hard class so of course you would need to put in a lot of effort. However, as long as you watch all the lectures, take good notes, and do hw, getting an A in this class is totally doable!!
I loved having Dr. K! I had him for Chem 101 in Fall 2020 & Im taking his Chem 102 next semester. He is the best prof Ive had in terms of being organized online and having clear due dates. When I struggled in the class he wrote me a five paragraph email about how to do better & I ended with an A! Test material is from the book. Great teacher!
This guy is honestly the worst. Take literally any other chem professor. He doesnt even teach anything, he just posts lectures and gives super hard tests. Worst class Ive taken at VCU.
He is an okay teacher. Had him online so i don't know how he is in person. The lectures I barely used I did the Recitation Packets and Book problems. His notes or problems he does in the lectures do not match his tests, however I got really good scores for some reason. He does put a lot of extra credit problems in his tests. Manageable class.
I don't know why people give him a bad review. He does the most out of any professor that I have ever had. He provides study guides which are a huge blessing although some of the answers to that are incorrect he is quick to respond and corrects mistakes. Also my class failed the first test hard and instead of keeping that grade he had us retake it.
Dr K is a really funny guy if you like nerd jokes. I had the class semi asynchronously so his lectures were prerecorded but we had mandatory weekly TA meetings. Those meetings are a waste of time and like 12% of your grade. The class is as hard as any chem class.
I think that this professor was very genuine and kind, but the tests were a spin-off of what was done on the homework and recitations. The work was hard and I had expected that, so when I signed up for classes, I thought there would be actual zoom meetings. However, they were all pre-recorded for all classes, so I had to email him for questions.
knew chem was hard when going into it so I was ready for that BUT he made it worse. Examples given in lecture and HW were not even close to what was on his tests. He's a nice guy so u feel bad saying he's a bad prof but no excuses when u ask for help and he send you the link to the CLC more than once. if u need a b or higher, dont take this prof
I have my final exam on May 12th. I'm going into it with a 101% class grade thanks to all of the extra credit on the tests. If you're the average VCU student who doesn't do any work, you'll probably hate this class. However, if you actually care about what you're learning, Dr. K teaches it very well and you'll have a lot of success.
Awesome professor. As long as you put in the effort you can easily get an A or B. He gives plentyyyy of extra credit opportunities and is always available for one on one explaining if your having a hard time with the pre recorded lectures.
I think he's a great professor, it's just his lectures are hard to understand. I recommend watching YouTube and Chegg while taking this class. Chegg definitely helped me break down a lot of complicated math problems. The first time I took Chem (w/ a diff professor) I got a D, but with him I got a B. He offers extra credit on the homework.
I honestly thought that Dr.K was a great professor. Quant chem is always going to be brutal, but he tried his best to make it fun, and easy going. I took this as a short 4-week summer course. He gave weekly extra credit with homework, and he allowed 2 attempts on tests. He was very helpful if you had any questions. You have to pay for the book.
5 week summer course. Professor was not on top of using Canvas correctly. This made course more annoying than necessary and so did tests. open note and open book, but questions were difficult. Class avg bad on exams. Homework is extra credit. It takes forever to do, but do it. It will save you a letter grade. Wouldn't recommend this prof
I LOVEE DR.K!!! Do NOT let his rating fool you. He is one of the BEST science professors I have ever had. He explains things super well and actually genuinely wants his students to succeed. The only reason he could have this bad of ratings is that vcu students must be lazy af. He was more than happy to help me understand everything and help me
Took this prof and ended up withdrawing a week before the end of semester. TESTS ARE WAY TOO HARD and everyone would do poorly. If the the class avg was 70% it would be good lol. To those saying the bad reviews are bc we're lazy well I was very dedicated and would study and work hard but STILL struggled. Took the class with another prof and passed.
The concepts are literally so easy, but he explains it so badly it seems so much more difficult. The homework and tests are made so much harder than they need to be for no good reason. I wouldn't recommend, but if you end up taking his class, be ready to find extra videos that will make it easier to understand.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. I don't care what the other reviews say. He gives too much info that isn't on tests or hw, I spent so much time studying topics based on his lectures he never even tested on. There were students in other 101 classes that would feel bad for us every exam because their profs didn't test as hard. Very nice guy but stay away!
Since this class was primarily online, there was no extra credit. He may have changed this so if you are interested in taking his class for whatever reason, email him for his syllabus. Class averages for this semester were never about a 66% for tests... and he said that was good. Just incase your doubting what the neg reviews say.
The worst professor I have taken. His tests are a wildcard, you just hope and pray that you know the material. 99% of his notes are basically useless. The notes are specific about all the wrong things. He takes pride in a low exam average. Don't take his class unless you want to complain about him 24/7. He's nice tho.
hed assign on average 8 lecture vids a wk that are 30 minutes long. he teaches the material well but the tests have NOTHING to do with what he taught. tests are open note/web but notes wont help. on top of that, the homework is about 20 questions long and take about 3 hours to complete in one sitting + notes DONT help. nice guy, but stay away.
If youre even slightly responsibly and know how to study, this class is extremely manageable and Dr. K is a super fun and understanding guy.
He has us watch 2-3 hours of recorded lectures each week on our own time (as well as do textbook hw that takes hours) then wastes our actual lecture time with confusing worksheets that don't prepare you for the tests, but you can’t just skip and watch the videos because he has us do attendance questions that are graded for accuracy :/
He is actually a very nice and friendly teacher. I definitely recommend office hours because he is very helpful. His lectures are activity-based but in my opinion, I learned best that way. His tests are actually hard but the only thing I can say is to not miss his classes because the worksheets we do in class have all the information for his tests.
Honest review: Tests were hard. He NEVER curves. I believe 3/5 tests had an average below a C (56%, 69%, and 60%). He did not curve any of these grades. No mandatory homework. Kind and respectful professor. He just has really hard tests and does not curve them.
Gave several hours of lecture videos every week as homework combined with actual in-person lectures. In lectures, we didn't even learn anything and just did practice problems instead. It was literally pointless but I made myself go because we did tophat participation problems in class. I studied 20-24 hrs/week to prepare for exams.
Professor makes no sense when he teaches the material. Does not care to help you when you ask questions. Test are really difficult, even with weeks of preparation and studying. Save yourself some time and energy, and DO NOT TAKE CHEM102 with this professor.
Dr. K is genuinely the worst person in education I have ever encountered. He's told us on his Canvas announcements that he's pleased with our consistent class average of 60% on every test and makes his tests impossible even after hours and hours of studying. Chem 101 should not be this difficult yet here's Dr. K's horrible class and teaching.
EASILY THE WORST PROFESSOR @ VCU. Lectures are always done fast and without answering questions. The TA even agrees that he is a terrible professor... Save your time and money. 10/10, hands down, THE WORST PROFESSOR.
he is a terrible teacher and doesnt explain things well at all, jus goes through power points. his online lecture he posts are actually much more helpful but still fast and confusing. the tests arent as hard as the class and not as nearly as hard as the hw but you still need to study.
He is a sweet guy. His class is HARD. Chemistry is a difficult subject so I don't want to completely write him off. There's a lot of material- I learned more from reading the textbook than by his lectures. He takes attendance, but I wouldn't consider attendance mandatory since his test grades are weighted so heavily against attendance and homework.
I thought I would do well in this class after getting an A in AP Chem and I am STRUGGLING to get the A. He is a nice guy, but his class is lecture heavy and the homework/practice doesn't match the tests. He believes a 60% test average is good, which for an intro chem class is not at all.
Chem is not easy to grasp. It takes work Dr K has decent lectures. Pay attention because he does move with a little speed in the class. show up attendance is graded. SKIP CLASS=REGRET. PLEASE go to his office hours simplifies lectures so well and helps with HW. Test heavy 4 tests and drops the lowest one. DO THE PRACTICE WS and go SI sessions. gl
He is super nice and caring but his lecture are straining! He lectures really fast and does worksheet maybe once a week. Also when doing examples he flys through them since he has it pre written. His test grade average is usually a 60 and he thinks that's really good. In order to understand the subject from him you need to watch the videos on Cavas.
Dr Kuklinski is passionate about teaching chemistry. He teaches all the information that will be on the test although his lectures are very lengthy and difficult to sit through. He gives a lot of opportunities to practice including the weekly homework. If you struggle to sit through long lectures then his class is not for you.
Professor Kuklinski is nice and cares a little bit. When it comes to lectures he doesn't really know how to teach I would say and apart from that there is so much info. Personally I couldn't grasp all of it. He doesn't do quizzes and only does tests. Tests are multiple choice. Homework wise its decent and does take a while to do on Pearson.
Dr K is a really kind professor. He makes himself available after class but his lectures are confusing sometimes. it's hard to tell what info is going to be on the test and what info isn't. He also goes fast, so taking notes can be difficult. Make sure to pay attention, study, and get extra help.
If you come to class, you earn points and use those to drop assignments at the end of the semester. Quizzes can be confusing. He goes kinda fast in lectures but he is a really nice/funny professor. You need to spend lots of time studying because of the amount of content, he makes and gives really great study guides.
Chem 102 is hard. That being said, Dr. K makes Chem 102 IMPOSSIBLE. The homework is not a good reflection of what will be on the tests/quizzes and on average takes 2+ hours to complete. (It is on MyLab/MasterChemistry and the assignment itself says it will take 2+ hours. I am not exaggerating.) Do not take Dr. K if you want to learn chemistry.
He posts every lecture video and notes on Canvas to study from. The bad ratings are a skill diff bc I watched 2 Organic Chemistry tutor videos on the day of the ACS exam and got an A. If you don't get it, there's something wrong with you. Just put his Canvas videos on 2x speed and use the Proton point system (you can drop a whole test FOR FREE)
Took 5week summer class. Graded on 4 exams (1drop), hw, tophat participation. Exams were 20 mc w 2 bonus questions. Exams were super easy and are almost exactly like the practice quizzes. All notes are posted, hw is easy, tophat for attendance and completion. Dr. K is a super nice guy, always answers questions, and will explain concepts/questions.
Gen Chem 2 is already difficult and sometimes he teaches new concepts as if you should know them already. It makes it difficult to stay focused during already confusing lessons and I find myself googling a lot of the things he goes over for better clarity. Really nice guy though, just need to put extra studying in if you're struggling like I was.
Took him for a 4.5 week Summer class. I came in without having taking gen chem 1 in over 2 years, and he was super helpful in bridging the gap in my knowledge and sorting out confusions when I had them, which was pretty frequently. One of the most caring professors I've met. He's also extremely passionate about what he teaches. Fast paced, though
Tests are 60% of your grade while the final is 20%. Have an opportunity to replace lowest test with final. Uses protons system which can help improve your grade. Tests are hard and tricky. No extra credit and sometimes there are curves. Tests come with 2 bonus questions worth points. Attendance is optional but beneficial for protons.
The man himself is nice but I think he understands chem too well to really teach it. He goes at a speed that can easily leave you lost. Tests are multiple choice but it only leaves room to doubt yourself. If you get lost on one part the class will only make less and less sense.
Honestly, I don't know why he gets so much hate. Yes, the class is not easy, but it's easy to succeed if you put in the effort. His video lectures are really helpful, and tests are like the quizzes. He also has a proton extra credit system in place to give your grade some cushion. Overall, a very kind and caring professor who wants you to succeed.
I get the hate but if this is your first time taking college level chemistry I dont recommend Dr.K he is a caring person but he isn't good at teaching. I went to the CLC regularly even though I already took ap chemistry. Try to get Polo she is the best just apply for a minor in chem its only one extra class for bio majors
Course is very test heavy, and many things mentioned in lectures aren't needed for tests. Uses attendance and participation as a way to allow students to drop quizzes and a test and homeworks or as extra points on assignments.
He gives out lots of homework and we have a quiz or exam every week. He is very accessible outside of class. Sometimes I felt like his homework didn't match the lectures.
Do not take this professor! There are many other chem professors that are amazing. Taking Dr. K is a waste of time and not a good experience. He tries to fail everyone!
Dr. Kuklinski is a great professor. The reason people give him bad reviews is just because chemistry is difficult; he does everything right. He explains the material very clearly and passionately, and he gives you so, SO many resources to take advantage of (use them!). Sure there's a lot of hw but the grading is forgiving and it's good practice.
Nothing done on homeworks or discussed in class is on the tests. The tests are 60% of your grade and the final is 20%. I have not talked to a single person this semester either taking 101 or 102 that has above a C. He thinks it is a good sign when mean test scores are in the 60s. Homework takes hours usually 2-4...don't take his class.
I would like to say Dr.K is a sweet guy. Other than that I genuinely don't think anyone should take Dr.K, unless somehow have a PHD in chemistry already. He teaches extremely fast so it feels like he's yapping whole but he will put questions on tests that relate to the yappage. If you have to take him use video lectures to survive. I could say more
Very hard. C average in the class do not take.
Chemistry is hard in general but if you need the support of a lecture to learn, do not take this class. His lectures are incredibly fast and he skips essential steps and information that leave you confused. You basically need to teach yourself everything on your own time to understand. This class will take SO much time and you'll still get a 60.
Super fun guy in class, but he makes the quizzes and tests ridiculously hard and the homework takes forever to complete. In the end, I did very well on the final (Which is standardized and therefore not made by him) and managed to get by with a B, but the grading is super tough and doesn't get any easier, make sure to attend to get extra credit.
If possible avoid enrolling in this professors class at all costs. One of the nicest people there is however that's the extent of the positives. He teaches incredibly fast, weighs tests very heavily, and very often it seems as if the lectures, homework, and exams do not correlate to each other. In order to succeed you need to put in absurd hours.
Lecture based class where he reads off slides very fast and if you do not keep up, you will fail. Tests are very large part of grade. Homeworks are long (2-4 hours), have unrelated content, and only make up tiny part of grade. Quizzes weigh the same as homeworks. Other than that he is very helpful if you ask questions.
Do not take this class even if you did well in chem 100. He does not know how to teach he thinks it's okay to have quizzes and test averages in the 40-50 range. Tests/quizzes do not reflect what we learn in class and are easy to fail there is one every week. Quizzes are out of 8 questions and tests are out of 20. Homeworks take 2-4 hours to do.
It's so weird that his ratings are low because I loved his class. His lectures are interesting, he works out problems during class, offers a ton of ungraded practice and extra credit, and he's available for help outside of class. If you put in effort, an A is attainable. I had him for both 101/2, and finished with above a 90% for both classes.
The class was tough. The main issue is that an assessment is always around the corner. He also taught a new unit on the last day of class right before the final, so yea wouldn't recommend lol, avoid his class if you can. Chem 101 with Moussa seemed less difficult in comparison and taught more efficiently.
I dropped early on because I have never taken a CHEM class before, and he doesn't 'teach'. He tells you how to do equations and then moves on to a complete different subject in 2 minutes. I asked if he could go slower and his response was "After our lecture in class, go home and rewatch the lecture I just taught you and then you'll understand"...
i have to take this class again because of him. His quizzes are too hard, homeworks takes forever to finish and some of the tests are too complicated. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I DON'T recommend taking his class UNLESS you are 100% prepared from CHEM 100. I received my final grade due to poor test and quiz scores. They're quizzes every Wednesday and they do play a part in grading. In the future, IF you take this class, remember that nobody cares about your grade but YOU!
Dr. K did well for being overworked by the university and mostly unacknowledged by his students. It's a difficult course so make sure you are ready before committing to showing up and working hard to pass his class.
His tests and quizzes start easy but get very difficult quickly. He was a harsh grader as well, I highly recommend taking a different professor for chem 101. He was one of the worst in my college experience.
Given the circumstances Dr. K went through, he wasn't a terrible professor but he wasn't good. I only came to lectures for attendance points, other than that the class was a bunch of self learning. I recommend skimming through his video lectures before coming to class - it helped quite a bit. He drops two quizzes which helped my grade a ton.
He wasn't the best professor, but certainly wasn't the worst. Just pay attention during lectures, complete weekly homework, and you should be ok! His proton system was a savior, and he truly wants his students to do the best. Also, ask questions if you have them, he'd be happy to answer them clearly.
Professor K is very kind and always willing to help outside of class and responds to messages very quickly. However, his class has a LOT of homework and quizzes that are worth very little. The exams are most of the grade and his lectures move at a very fast pace making it hard to follow oftentimes.
I took his summer CHEM 309 course and also had him for CHEM 101 in Fall of 2023. Make sure to pay attention to the lecture and review the content on the same day using the homework. He is a very a good professor that goes fairly in-depth into the material. Understanding the homework and slides are adequate for getting a good grade on the test.
The class is not easy, it takes a lot of practice to do well. Don't worry too much if you do badly on a few quizzes, what matters the most are the tests. What helped me the most were the homework packets. These are not graded, they are only for practice, but I highly encourage you to do them. If you complete the packets, you'll pass the test.
He lectures VERY fast and doesn't teach well.
I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt even after reading the ratings on RMP. Please don't do that. If you aren't the best in chemistry please DO NOT take him!! He talks a lot and goes over material quickly and the quizzes are never really on the stuff on the practice tests so you do have to listen to him yap. Would not recommend to anyone.
Prof Kuklinkski is a very tough grader, and not good at teaching whatsoever. He teaches as if you already know about the subject as well as a chemistry professor as opposed to actually teaching material so you understand it as a student. Also does not go through subjects enough but instead glazes over them.
Dr. Kuklinski is honestly not that bad of a professor. the only reason I took him was cause he was the only one left. But lowkey learning through the weekly homeworks is better than learning through the lectures. He also has videos of each unit which is also really helpful. If you just take the time to understand, then the class will be ez💯.
This dude is genuinely the worst teacher I have ever had.
Dr. K's style of teaching in a way that seems more like reviewing material as if you already know and making the 3 tests you take 60% of your grade means that if you don't take time outside of class to teach yourself, you're screwed. He might not be a bad prof for more experienced students, but if you're a freshman, I would say pass on him.
Most of the content was not covered on the final. Important topics were not given enough time and instead niche topics were focused on. Tests and quizzes are never curved regardless on how the class performs.
He explains the material well and has a good sense of humor. He also includes extra questions on tests, so even if you miss a few, you can still get a good grade. All the content is available in videos on Canvas, so if you don't want to attend class and just watch the videos and show up for quizzes/tests -this is the professor for you.
Super smart and funny professor whose passion for chemistry shines through. His creative lectures and extra credit system for attending class are amazing. Weekly quizzes keep you on track for tests and the ACS exam. The best chemistry professor I could've asked for!
I enjoyed this class and if you want a very structured class I would choose Dr. K. The weekly quizzes are a good way to practice material with low pressure since they are worth the same as homework. Dr. K is a nice guy, but his tests are hard and worth 60 percent of your grade. However, he did a really good job preparing for the ACS.
He is very sweet person, but for me he was not best match for chemistry during lectures I was very confused. His homeworks are very hard and I personally did not feel ready for the ACS exam. MAKE SURE TO ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS DURING TOPHAT THOSE POINTS WILL HELP YOU A LOT!!
Hes genuinly super nice but this man does't know how to lecture. Class was boring and hard to follow, you're honestly better off watching his posted videos rather than pay attention to lecture. The proton extra credit system was cool but honestly didn't help students grades too much. It'll boost your grade maybe 2-3% if you collect every proton.
This class hurt my ego, only because I never fail classes. I was doing good until the end of midterm, where I failed one of my tests pretty badly and my grade went DOWNHILL from there. It is really easy to mess up your grades in this class, and you cannot do much to get them back up. He really isn't the best, nice guy though.
Professor K's class was a challenge, but using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material. His proton system was a lifesaver, and he genuinely wants students to succeed. Overall, it's a tough but rewarding course.
he posts video lectures, watch those and take notes. the hw's are pretty helpful, and he posts practice problems, but those alone aren't enough, practicing problems from the textbook is a good idea.
always yapped about unnecessary things that werent even relevant to the class. always went over time and was mad passive agressive about student talking. etc etc. his work was time consuming and stressful. 8 question weekly quizzes. not worth the tears. dont take him!!
He is so sweet and truly loves chemistry but RUNNNNNNN. He yaps for too long and when he tries to go over practice problems he doesn't explain the steps at all. Weekly quizzes are 8 questions but it gets to a point ... I would suggest taking another professor or if you end up with Dr K then start studying now. im crying rn good luck.
I didn't listen when people told me not to take his class. He is known for purposely putting trick questions to screw you up on assessments. His lectures consist of him yapping and half the time about something that isn't actually important. He is a nice guy, but that does not excuse his inability to teach. I have gained NOTHING from this class.
Dr. K is a really nice guy. His class is probably harder than some other 101/102 classes, but he provides you with endless resources to help you succeed, and is very accessible outside of class. Ultimately, you get what you put into it. Go to SI sessions and Science Hub hours and buy the Gen chem ACS book!!!
he is not good at all! overyly strict tests are very difficult and not helpful in general.
I don't even understand why I'm paying for this class because I always end up having to reteach myself all the content anyway. Maybe it's just me but I have trouble learning when professors just read slides copied word for word from a textbook anyone can access, and that's exactly what Dr. K does. But if you can learn that way more power to you.
He's a nice guy, but my goodness. I'm typically really good at chemistry, but no matter how much I studied for his class I never got above a C on quizzes/tests. He doesn't take enough time to go over what you actually need to know but instead rambles on about things that won't be tested. He also does not prepare well for the ACS exam.
I loved his lectures, he is passionate about the subject and is very engaging. Answers questions and has lots of practice materials for quizzes and tests. Dude loves his chemistry and it shows.
Dr. K is by far the worst option to take for Chem101, he's passionate about chem but STRUGGLES to teach it. You have to teach yourself the material/rely HEAVILY on the TAs cause Dr K will just rush through the material while everyone is lost. His quizzes are in person, he does not curve, often grades wrong, and most of his students fail the class.
Dr. K is extremely passionate about Chemistry. It's clear he cares a lot about his students and subject. His lectures are a tad fast, just go to class and pay attention and you should be absolutely fine. Lots of homework/quizzes, but it preps you for exams really well. His notes are organized well, and he provides video recordings on Canvas.
kuklinski's style of teaching is both boring and hard to follow. his passion for the subject is clear but it is also what causes him to go on tangents and struggle to have concise lessons. i believe that the material in chem 101 isnt that bad, but he made it harder than it had to be.
I've never been particularly great at Chemistry, but this course made me feel like I've never once seen or heard about anything chemistry related in my life. He is genuinely a really bad professor, and he goes really fast with his lectures. His presentations make sense along with his lecture, so if you miss class or need to study, don't use them :(
Freak him don't take him
If you want to finish a chemistry class, do. not take him. He is terrible. He knows it as well as he does, so you will have to teach it to yourself. I would not recommend taking this class, especially if chemistry is not your strong suit.
Our first exam, no lie, ALL the answers were A. He comes to us and says, "whoops, I forgot to randomize the answers." and proceeds to teach like nothing happened. He talks about anything BUT chem. and says attendance is optional, but if you miss one class, you're already behind a whole chapter. Don't take his class.
Ok so Kulinski is a very kind professor which is why I rated a 3.0. However, his teaching approach is very ineffective and is the cause why many students have difficulties in his class. In my experience, his exams are worded more complicated than they need to be, which may often cause confusion. I would not recommend if you struggle with Chemistry.
If chemistry isn't your thing, don't take him. I had him over the summer, great guy, but terrible decision to do that to myself. Start studying for the ACS as soon as possible. For me it was really hard because it was a four week course and there were exams every week I was studying for, so it was super stressful. Just don't do it. Ate me tf up.
I never thought I would withdraw or fail a class until now. If you are not willing to teach yourself Chem 101, do not take it, or you WILL fail. His tests account for 60% of your grade and have nothing to do with the content. My transcript will never recover. Do not take this class, even if his times are the only ones that work with your schedule.
He gives quizzes every Monday and you will have a textbook homework assignment due the same day at 11:59 p.m. His tests are worth 60% of your grade and the class averages rage from 65% to 70%. I would advise you not to take him.
He genuinely messed me up so badly and he messed up so many different things, he can't properly explain the things he needs to and instead spends 30 mins talking about things that don't matter
He does a lot of extra credit and is very energetic during lectures. One of my favorite profs for past 2 sems
This is the worst class I've taken in the past two years. He lectures in a very roundabout and lengthy way that isn't helpful at all, but the exams are extremely difficult and completely different from what he teaches
Awful class, don't recommend for who really want to learning Chem, cause u gonna got nothing from this class. His lectures are vague, rambling, and not helpful, yet the exams are extremely difficult and nothing like what he teaches in class.
He is a very nice guy he just isn't too good of a lecturer. He does do extra credit, which he calls protons, and you get them by going to class and answering top hat questions. His grading is not too bad, and the class somewhat prepares you for the ACS only if you study, tho.
Doesn't teach in way most people understand. EXTREMELY hard tests. I would not take again at all. Nice guy himself but I wouldn't take him if you want to get a good grade in chem. Gives protons for attendance but they don't help much maybe 1% if you go to every class. Quizzes are hard too. The questions are confusing.
Save yourself if you can. He teaches everything in the most complicated way possible which makes it extremely hard to understand. His “protons” are nowhere near as dependable as he pretends them to be. They usually bump your grade by maybe 1% . Your entire grade hangs on the tests, and questions are confusing, poorly written, and, mess.
Do not take Dr. K! His tests are EXTREMELY hard. He teaches in a way that most people don't understand and you honestly have to teach yourself the course. His test and quiz questions are phrased very confusing and makes it harder to complete the question. His questions are phrased more confusing than the actual ACS final.
Provides his tests and quizzes in ways that are the same as the ACS final exam, prepping you much better than other professors for the ACS. He has many resources to help you succeed, along with extra credit and grading curves. His lecture style wasn't great for me, but you always have access to his notes and lecture videos. Easy to talk to.
Dr K is a great person who cares and will help you during office hours. But his class was overall one of the hardest classes I have ever taken and the first one I failed. His lectures were hard to follow, and I felt lost half of the time, but in his defense, CHEM 101 is really hard due to learning a bunch of new material.
