HE IS AN AWESOME TEACHER. HE REALLY MAKES THE CLASS A LOT OF FUN

GREAT TEACHER

This was a good class. Makes boring material interesting. Mr. Nownes has a lot of energy.

Mr. Nownex is extremely helfpul. In order to do well in the class you must attend class, take notes, read the material and hand in assignments. One of the best prof. i've had. He knows his subject and makes it interesting. Over all...the BEST!!!

Short Stories class. There was TONS of discussion every day about interpretations of the stories. He gets off-topic sometimes, but he's really enthusiastic. We often never reached a clear consensus on what the stories were about, but it leaves them open to your own interpretation, which many classes don't do. Class graded on papers and essay tests.

Interesting discussions. He asks for a lot of writing. Grades hard, but he lets you rewrite papers if your grade is bad

Best English teacher i have ever had. If you stay on top of your work you will at least get a C. I learned so much from him it has made me consider being an English major. Very freindly as well and knowledgeable.

My favorite professor to take classes from. His style is loose and makes for a damn interesting class, even if it tends to drift off topic from time to time. His door is always open if you need help. He's criticized for not teaching the technical aspects of writing. If you would have paid attention in high school you'd know this stuff already

He makes me want to go to school and makes class fun i really hate english but enjoy his class

He is a great teacher! His disscussions aren't always on topic, but they're always interesting and it makes me actually want to go to class. He's also a very fair grader.

Superior. Guides the engaged persons' discovery of research and critical skills masterfully. Understanding him requires breaking rote habits of conforming to easily quantifiable success like spelling and sentence structure. Schedule is flexible and attuned to adult learners' needs. Example of why to seek regular vs. adjunct faculty.

He was a wonderful teacher. Very understanding, very down to earth, and made class extremely interesting. Highly recommend him!

Wonderful teacher. I took his online Writing and Research class. He was very helpful and seemed very happy to be teaching his material. He even gave students the option of revising our essays for a higher grade! The topics we wrote about were VERY interesting, unlike most English classes I have taken. I would love to take another class from him.

Awesome teacher. Definitely recommend. Helpful, clear, interesting, energetic and a fair grader. I took the summer session and I felt it was a breeze compared to other summer classes i've had. He kept a 3 hour class interesting.

Great teacher, fun class, it was like a debate class. He gets the entire class involved.

He is a great teacher if you are into debate. He has a lot of opinions on the world and will share them with you. You never have to agree with what he says and I believe he enjoys a good debate. The best quality he has is he learns as much from students as they do from him.

Professor Nownes is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. He makes class interesting and I have learned so much from him. I urge everyone to take his classes! He is a joy!

This was my first class in 8 years, and my first online class ever. He is and Absolutely Fabulous Teacher! Would definately recommend! Very helpful and made sure class wasn't a drag. His curriculum consists of subjects everyone can relate to like Generations and Subcultures. Very interesting and enjoyable! Will be taking my next Eng class with him!

Overall, he's an easy professor. I took his class online and we basically did worksheets and discussion questions. Easy enough, just have to work on worksheets throughout the week if you want to get it done. No use for the book because you he makes you search the web for answers anyways.

One more thing, he contradicts himself at times when it comes to writing about topics.

This professor made my first semester back awesome. The class could have easily been a drag, but Nick made this a highlight of my week. I wish he taught more of the classes I need.

WOW, Great Professor!!! I always hated English, I dreaded having to take the class. LOVED IT this time around. Very fair grader, work load can be intense so if you procrastinate, this is not the class for you. Highly recommend taking him for your class. He is very involved with the students. I took it online and found him extremely helpful. A+

Took this class online during summer, and also haven't been to a class in over 15 years. It was very intense, but a great teacher in explaining things to make it more unstandable and very relatable.

Very liberal professor and his goal is to make you a liberal as well. Be sure not to disagree with him, or he will make you pay. Keep your opinions to yourself. He is an easy grader almost too easy. He is the only professor that I know of that swears often in class. He is highly questionable, but if you don't mind that, he is fine.

If you want a easy class, this is class is for you. Nick is pretty good,but it doesnt offer any challenge whatsoever, and also he doesnt follow many of the rules that other english professors do like the no usage of wikipedia for search manterial. Like i said if you dont like challenges this class is for you.

Best English Teacher ever!! He will work with you and help you. He grades fairly. You will learn a lot from his teaching style to how to write properly.

Best teacher I’ve had at Inver! Very accommodating, and helpful. Not to mention, the class is very interesting. Teaches a lot at night, and he understands the pressures of being a working student. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

best teach i have ever had in college.very helpful and easy going. im very conservative and he is liberal but its ok...he plays both sides equally. alot of writing, but he is very clear as to the work and always helpful..i would highly reccomend him to anyone.

Great Instructor! I took this class online but still felt a connection, which isn't easy to get in that format. The required homework really helps you learn the subject matter. He always lets you know what he expects. He also picks interesting subjects to write about! Probably my favorite class so far, and I didn't like writing coming into it!

Great professor: very helpful and understanding. The class is not boring. You will write what you already know but you need to spend time to research and to write. I spent about 4 hours a day. First paper is writing about a subculture. The second is writing about your generation value. The third is persuasive writing. Busy writing class!

Very caring teacher. All of the other students I talked to had only good things to say. He is easy going and makes the long class as fun as possible. I enjoyed this class and the way he teaches.

I took this class condensed and online. It was quite a lot of work each week. Must complete weekly assignments (time consuming), weekly quizzes (easy) and 10+ pg research paper w/ 10+ resources. Liked the professor and topics were interesting in developing critical thinking skills (think skepticism). Good luck!

Mr. Nownes is a master teacher. I've had classes with him for in-class and online and he makes each class a very worthwhile learning experience. You will learn a ton and have a great time in the process. He answers questions fast and you clearly know what he expects of you to get an A. Take Mr. Nownes for any course, you won't regret it.

I was dreading taking this class. But Professor Nownes was able to calm my dread. I was pleasantly surprised. He is very helpful, clear with his direction and expectations. He is also respectful and funny. I have a new found appreciation for English and my writing skills. Tough content,great teacher and I can hardly believe that I rocked an A.

I took this online condensed English. I struggle in English and always nervous with these classes. Best Professor. Gives great feedback. Makes you feel good and confident about yourself and doesn't critize everything but gives constructive feedback so you learn. Wish more Professors taught like him. Very clear in his directions. Absolutely take.

This professor is very passionate teacher. He is very honest and will tell you, "I don't mean to offend anyone here but"and he states reality in this world" You can tell he loves reading what you have to write as well.

Okay instructor, lectures were long and boring. We spent the whole semester working on one paper that must get a passing grade to pass the class. There were a lot of group assignments which I do not really enjoy. Nick was funny but the classes got repetitive because we just kept preparing for the final paper. Not a very exciting class.

Class is a little repetitive. Teacher talks way too loud and swears a lot. Lots of group work. Kind of boring, but as long as you do the required work (and there is a surprisingly large amount of it for a two-credit class) you should be fine. Not good, not bad. Class is kind of "meh."

as a student of an online writing research class I can say this workload is REDONK for an online english class. it is week 3 and I have typed over 30 pages for this class already and need a rough draft for a 6 page research paper as well as a 25 question worksheet with answers ranging from a few sentences to hundreds of words plus 2 more quizzes

Nownes is a good teacher, I am enrolled in another one of his classes for Spring Semester.

Eng 1111 is a tough class no matter who you take it with, but if you have a choice, I would definitely recommend Nick. He is very friendly and is very specific with his critiques of your paper which allows you to correct it for your final. There is A LOT of writing for this class so be prepared for the time commitment.

Wheewww! So glad that I got through this class. Expect to do a lot of writing and research. That's what this class is about. I took an accelerated class and it was cut throat but I got through it. If you are going to take this class "Accelerated" I dont recommend you taking other classes . He is very detailed. I recommend him. Enjoy

Sure, there are lots of papers, but it was an accelerated hybrid class, and it's a writing class, so it is expected. The professor gives a clear framework of what is expected and the research subject matter was interesting so that made a big difference. Its a lot easier to write when the topics are interesting. He made it a good class.

Nownes is an excellent professor! I loved his class and most definitely would take it again. He is very open to helping with whatever you need, and always gives very clear instructions on what he expects.

Nownes was one of the best professors I have had! I took him online and he always left great feedback on each assignment and always answered back if you had a question very fast. The homework we were assigned was very interesting and helped incredibly when writing the final paper. I would 100% recommend this class

I LOVE THIS CLASS. Its an online writing class but his communication is unbelievably great. If you do your readings and really develop your writing, youll do great. Also, his feedback and response times are TOP NOTCH.

It has been quite a while since I took Dr. Nownes, but I owe a great deal of thanks to him for teaching me how to write clearly, convincingly, and concisely upon my return to college. He is truly a great guy and loves to read what students have to write. Witty, sarcastic, serious, and all around an amazing teacher. Definitley take if you can.

Professor Nownes was a wonderful professor. He always did a great job keeping the class engaged and the expectations were very adequately explained. Easily accessible outside of class hours. Also the assignments and grading, unlike many classes, were fair and I learned A LOT whilst enjoying the course. First-rate professor, no doubts on that

Nownes was a great teacher. If you really try in his class there is no way you can't pass. Show up and engage in class, he keeps the group conversation topics interesting. You get a lot of freedom with your topics and he gives good feedback.

Nownes is such a good teacher. He teaches topics that are relevant in our lives and is very understanding. You get participation points for showing up and do not have many papers. We did have weekly assignments, but you get a week to do them. Passionate about his job and his students. Would highly recommend!

You don't have a textbook, but does have 1-2 books to check out. He seemed really nice and caring. He helped work with me in the semester when emergency event came up altering me in class. It's nice to have professor's like him that understand when emergency events come up last minute!

Nownes is an amazing professor. He assigns homework every week, but if you prioritize you can get it done without any problems and he is very understanding and flexible if a problem arises. He looks as controversial topics from multiple viewpoints so you can voice your opinion without being judged.

Overall, Nownes was a good professor. He gave a lot of feedback, was very attentive to every student, and made sure everyone was active in the classroom. However, there wasn't much actual, structured lecture time. We maybe has one or two classes strictly devoted to MLA and APA? Additionally, there were a lot of presentations expected in this class.

Was an incredibly flexible teacher, easy to get along with and I even enjoyed the papers we wrote.

Overall, great professor. The only thing I would be aware of is the amount of homework. It's not that he assigned a ton of work, it's just that the work he did assign was tough and time-consuming. Professor Nownes did give great lectures and was a very vibrant and funny teacher, he made Zoom calls enjoyable.

Literally one of my favorite professors ever. He is really nice, is clear about his expectations, and is a nice grader. The class has a lot of writing (5 200 word questions on weekly assignments) but he grades on completion. There are 3 big essays but they are not too difficult. Overall great professor.

Hes irritating up until midterms- loves to hear himself talk! But once you get to the point where you actually start writing papers, hes great. Follow his instructions and youll pass. If you have a decent understanding of english, youll be just fine.

Nownes is the most gracious professor I have ever had. I was incredibly behind in my writing class, and he came alongside me when I was really struggling with the class. Even though I only had 2 assignments in the entire class that I turned in on time, I still passed with an A.

Nick was straight forward for what his expectations. He didnt leave room for wondering how an assignment was supposed to be completed. Very thorough. Also, understanding for circumstances to arise that makes it challenging for the student.

He assigns a lot of work but is a really good grader, offers lots of feedback, and is very clear about what he wants. If you put in some time it's easy to get an A, and you can always reach out, he's super helpful.

Nownes is a great professor. He provides a ton of feedback and truly reads every word you write. If you follow the guidelines of assignments you will get 100%. Final paper is worked on for a month before you have to turn it in. I love this professor and this class. Take this class

Professor Nownes is one of the best professors at Inver Hills. I took his accelerated research writing course. The way the class was set up was easy to understand and had clear directions and deadlines. Nownes provides AMAZING feedback! The assignments can be lengthy but are rather easy to complete. Would definitely take one of his classes again.

Nownes is my favorite professor at IHCC. He gives clear instructions and excellent feedback on assignments. The work may be lengthy at times but there aren't many assignments overall. He gives students lots of time to work on assignments and allows late submissions without reduction. He is AMAZING I would definitely take another class with him.

Is very clear on what he wants done in assignments, also gives good writing tips/guidance. If taking ENG 1114, you get like a whole month to prepare for the research paper which is very helpful.

Love this class! I have learnt so much from it! I had no clue how to write a good academic paper before and used to be afraid of writing a paper. Then I learnt the frames/structures/formats of academic writing from this class, and it becomes so easy! Anyone finishes his class will be able to write a good paper in an hour or two. Recommended!

Recommend taking English class with Mr. Nownes. Best teacher I've had so far in my college academic career. I have learned so much from his class. Not only he guides you with the rules of writing and research, but he also brings up a lot of interesting topics that encourages you to stay engaged in the class.

Class is genuinely useful and covers interesting topics. The class is organized and expectations are clear. Nownes is thoughtful and entertaining, a delight even. Set the bar so high that the air force can't reach it. Just register the class, easiest choice of the season.
