Dr. Pollock is a very nice guy, but his class is super hard! He says you don't necessarily need to read the textbook, but his PowerPoint slides are very vague. There are only two exams, and a final! With that being said, the exams cover A LOT of material. He did allow us to earn points back on exams by working in groups. That was helpful. Beware!!!
He has changed this class a lot since the first semester. He provides practice questions, TA review sessions and his power points are full of the material, so much so that I did not purchase the book. There are three exams, 40 multiple choice and 4-6 short answer/fill in a chart. After each exam you do the same exam in groups to boost your grade.
I obviously expected the class would be hard, but not this unnecessarily difficult. There's 10 quizzes worth 20 pts ea w/ 10 questions, 3- 100 detailed questions exams w/ SO much info in them. Labs are not taught by him but are set up by him. Practical (study 2 wks prior) also difficult and graded extremely toughly.
Dr. Pollock is a very nice person but his overall class is extremely difficult. Exams are worded very hard. I studied so much and would still barely make C's. If you plan on trying to make an A in this course, avoid this class. Anatomy is hard and you'll have to work for it. But this was a whole another level of difficulty.
Dr. Pollock's class is unnecessarily difficult. I love anatomy but this class makes it hard to. I studied so much for quizzes, exams, etc. & barely even passed some. This class requires SO much time & effort, which is hard to do when you have other classes. He can be unreasonable & won't let you retake anything. No extra credit or curves are given.
He's a nice guy, helpful when you go to his office, but his exams are hard. There are no reviews, there are 10 quizzes and three exams, one final. Don't get the textbook. Watch his echos because most of what he says is on the exams. STUDY EVERY DAY. Questions are very wordy and tricky if not careful.
Dr. Pollock is a nice guy, but he truly should not be a professor. He is so knowledgeable about the subject he teaches but expects you to know as much as he does. He uses trick questions on exams and words them in such a weird way. Does not drop quiz grades. Obviously, A&P is hard but he's just not a good professor
Professor Pollock was helpful if you went into his office. His lectures were hard to pay attention to and he talked a long time on things that weren't even on the test. The quizzes were designed to trick you and his tests were the same way. Anatomy and Physiology is hard so you might as well take a good professor. I would not recommend him.
Pollock is very nice! The class was very difficult and took a lot of studying, reviewing, and attention. Questions are very hard and sometimes confusing on tests/quizzes, but when studying and pulling all nighters, you should be fine! It's going to be difficult but if you really want it, then you can do it! Getting a B was he hardest thing ever!
I liked professor Pollock as a teacher, everything that was on the test were things he went over in class. Listen to his Echo recordings and put in effort and the exams are not too bad. His test and quiz questions were sometimes worded poorly and the time limit on quizzes was too short.
I don't hate Pollock but I'm not exactly fond of him. I'm serious when I say that you will have to READ BEFORE CLASS. His class time is literally like a review, you can go in during his office hour for more detail teaching but don't count on class time to teach you everything.
He's a nice guy. Grades are determined by 3 exams, 10 quizzes, and one final. There's a bit of a curve towards the end of the semester, but I wouldn't depend on it because he won't curve you to the next letter grade if you're even a point away. You do learn from his lectures if you listen and take notes. Watch his echo in a quiet place to hear.
The class is a weedout class, COMMIT to studying and you will be fine. He is also the lab instructor and is the one who makes the practicals. You have to commit to studying even MORE. First practical is easy, the second one is harder because of the muscles.
Worst professor I've ever had. Class is insanely difficult. I went into it knowing A&P is a tough subject but he makes it 100x more difficult than it needs to be. I have friends at Tech and UT who say their A&P was a breeze compared to ours. He's not understanding and tests are worded weirdly. Had to take him for nursing major unfortunately.
He changed some things he did during the summer. His 3 exams are now 50 questions and if you get all A's, you get a shortened final or something like that. He didn't do quizzes in the summer but make you study. He's funny.
Grades on wkly quiz and 3+final tests. Toughest multiple choice Q's I've seen. (I have a bachelors from UT Austin) They are nuanced and demand a comprehensive understanding of the material AND the subtleties of language. Very nice guy, will help you during office hours. Not always clear what will be on test. Solution: just know everything.
His multiple choice questions are hard and he does not prepare us for them. Quizzes equal a exam grade those will halt an A. If pressure quizzes arent your thing take Henry and focus on exams. Pollock is weird, not really helpful during office hours but other then that he's straight to the point WATCH his Echo360 videos!!Almost got an A w/o book!
His quizzes are hard and he does not prepare us for them. Quizzes equal a exam grade those will halt an A. If pressure quizzes arent your thing take Henry and focus on exams. Pollock is weird, not really helpful during office hours but other then that he's straight to the point WATCH his Echo360 videos!! Extra credit offered class b4 exam(:be there
Quizzes are hard but prepare you for what tests are like. Study the PowerPoints and use the book if you're still confused. Do practice questions and make study sheets with basic information so you're not stressed out for finals week.
I love Professor Pollock. I never touched the textbook and made an A in the course. Just study the powerpoint and know them VERY well. As long as you stay on top of your studies, pay attention, and ask questions if you don't understand something, you'll be fine. He rounds up grades at the end!! GO TO CLASS!
Mr. Pollock prepares each student for his exams. His lectures specifically highlight potential quiz questions. If a student commits the powerpoint information to memory, then the student will earn above a 90. The student must actually commit facts to memory. Students earn low grades when they cannot judge what they have and have not memorized.
I LOVE Dr. Pollock. Gives review tests and notes. Pretty funny guy and def not hard on the eyes. Clear expectations. Study the practice exams and make diagrams and youll do well. I wish he taught more classes. If youve taken A&P this will be a breeze.
Dr. Pollock's class is pretty tough but he explains the material very well. He is also very flexible with his schedule, so if you ever have any questions go to his office hours and ask him, he appreciates it. It took me until the third exam to perfect my study skills for his class so my advice is to figure out a plan for yourself ahead of time.
Mr. Pollock is a teacher that gives very minimal grades. His grades revolve around weekly quizzes consisting of 10 questions, HEAVY on exams and doesn't even drop any grades. Overall, he's really hard but in contrast if you go to his office hours he is likely to help!
He used his own powerpoints for lectures you can get an idea on what he's going to test you on (its still a lot of material). Just go to class, pay attention and study a little bit everyday. He makes it as enjoyable as AP1 can get. You have to put in time and effort or else you wont pass. I do wish he would provide some extra credit and drop a quiz
Easily the hardest class I have ever taken, but it prepares you for A&P II. The quizzes are harder than the tests. Do NOT just memorize for this class - you will do poorly. You need to understand the processes involved. Gives extra credit and does a final exam review.
Hard class, not going to lie. He is a great lecturer! Funny and sarcastic, so if that isn't your thing probably not going to be your favorite. Study for they quizzes those are what killed my grade because I never studied for them. He offers extra credit the class before the exam so go to it.
Anatomy is a difficult subject but pollock makes it easier to understand the material and also if you show up to class he gives extra credit. As long as you study power points well you will get an A or at least high B. Overall helpful and great professor.
He tells you what he tests over and lets you know what you will need to know. Also will allow you to ask questions and helps you remember with funny anecdotes.
I know what the other comments say. I was in the same situation reading these not too long ago. However, Dr. Pollock is a really good professor. He knows what he's talking about. A&P, in general, is a difficult subject, you're going to have to work for it whoever you take. Show up, study, and be dedicated and you will be just fine.
He lectured by reading his powerpoints, he would leave some of the posted slides blank so you'd only get the information by actually going to class. There were 3 exams and a final but he offered an extra credit review before all the tests
Professor Polluck is great at teaching physiology, but this class is nonstop studying. Cumulative quizzes in lecture & lab every week. Don't expect any curves, but there will be review papers that you can work in group before exams in order to gain points towards your grade (weighs as much as your quizzes). Get A's on all test 10 question final
Dr. Pollock expects students to care about their education, so he wants effort by coming to class, participating, and reviewing material outside of class. Go to class.... don't rely just on the recordings. Reorganize your notes and study by drawing and making tables and review sheets. Extra credit offered. Great office hrs and accessibility!
If you show up for most lectures and labs, he will round up your grade 1 or 2 points to the next letter grade so if you have a 68 he will round you to a 70. He uses a lot of examples when explaining the material which helps. He drops your lowest test grade as well. Great Professor!
Dr. Pollock is a great professor. He doesn't curve, but he does give out extra credit. Attend class, it helps! Read the powerpoints, listen, take notes, and you should be fine. Makes the class really fun and is hilarious. Would highly recommend!
Dr. Pollock is a good professor, however attending class and studying just powerpoints is NOT enough. You need to further grasp the info, watching videos helps. Do not just try to memorize the powerpoints. Tests are extremely difficult, so rewatch lecture if needed. Great professor who wants students to work for their grades.
Highly difficult class, he does a pretty good job making it engaging as possible. NO curves, so what you get on exams is what you get. You must be in class as he takes attendance with a program called Top Hat (yes you must buy a subscription). GOING TO LAB IS VITAL FOR PRACTICALS. You'll have to study A LOT.
Gives extra credit each test. Tells you exactly what you need to know as long as you take good notes. He does give some applied physiology questions, but if you're going to be a nurse or a doctor, critical thinking is something you need to be able to do anyways(I'm an RN going for my MD). Interesting course, and VERY clinically relevant. Take him!
Bumps you up if you're within 2 points of the next letter grade, just make sure your attendance throughout the semester is good.
Anatomy is a hard topic and Pollock tried his best to make it easier for us to understand. He gives extra credit questions/in class activities. Make sure you study daily and go to Lab! This is a hard class- you have to use critical thinking- best anatomy professor at UTA. He also helps a lot in office hours! TAKE HIM!
TAKE POLLOCK!!! His class is really hard but he's honestly an amazing professor. He makes videos for us to watch if we don't understand a concept, emails back right away, and super funny! GO TO LAB, DO NOT SKIP OPEN LAB. This class is non-stop studying but Pollock helps a lot.
His lectures are so detailed and tells you what's on the exams. He explains everything so well and makes sure you understand the material. Quizzes each week so make sure you're updated on the material because it could either hurt or help your grade. He makes his own videos on YT to further explain heavy concepts. Go to office hours!
Best choice I made for a&p1 was take pollock. He made sure to give students additional help with material: videos, assignments, practice problems. He takes attendance to see who goes. Tests are based on powerpoints and I only used the book to fill in the terms list. Make sure to understand the material and ask questions.
Took him for summer A&P1. Overall, he's very helpful because he gives so many additional study tools for students to understand the material as best as possible (and he even does review games/activities). But I mean, you still have to put in the work because it's not an easy class at all.
Doesn't do anything about people cheating so if you get through your classes by cheating, he's the perfect prof. For the rest of us, he says you can get by on his lectures alone but that's not the case. There are always topics on the exams he never went over.
Pollock is the worst professor I have ever had. His lectures are interesting and I like his power points, but he SUCKS at writing test questions. He is arrogant and unapproachable. He will not take responsibility for bad questions and will blame it on you. He also talks down to students. My opinion is not unique. I wish I had listened to my friends
Even though this was by far one of the hardest classes I have ever taken, Dr. Pollock is a great professor. He is open to questions and cares about your success. There are quizzes that can help or hinder you. Exams & quizzes are straight forward. DO NOT SLACK OFF. That could be the death of your grade. He is funny, caring, and gives extra credit.
he is a really good teacher. class is super hard. lectures matter so much, I would watch the echos and take notes all over again, always got a B on the test. 3 tests and a big final. he's funny but he can come off cold. quizzes help and he does in-class activities that can also boost up your grade. overall cool guy.
He is a great professor and you can learn alot from him. Attendance is not mandatory but he does take attendance sometimes to see who regularly comes. If you skip class you won't pass his class.
He is a really good professor but his tests are very "wordy". The Powerpoints will be enough to pass and do well on the tests but you really have to know each slide and listen. TopHat quizzes should be taken seriously because a lot of those points accumulate. But then he does TopHat questions for extra points throughout the semester as well.
Take everything seriously, even if its just worth 10 points. Dont skip class, he takes attendance randomly. Other than that, he does a lot to make sure you do your best so just study efficiently and youre solid :)
Gives extra credit but test are very wordy and are difficult
I took this class as a pre-nursing student. The hardest I have ever worked for a class, but extremely interesting. Professor is big on participation, uses Top Hat for quizzes and gives good reviews for tests. Also records lectures and posts online. Best teacher I have ever taken, but hard class and a lot of material.
Pollock is definitely the best professor I have taken at UTA thus far. He really wants his students to succeed but you do have to work for it. The material is hard and there is no getting around that, but he gives so many resources that it is feasible. 10 quizzes, 3 exams, participation and a final (+lab) is what you're graded on. Highly recommend.
Professor Pollock is an amazing professor and his lectures were never dull. Although it's a lot of material, he is always available for his students if they need help. He cares a lot about his students and wants them to work for their grade. He will tell you what will and won't be on his exams so go to class! He also gives extra credit. Take him!
Professor was very unreasonable when it comes to situations outside of school. Sometimes would be snappy and sarcstically rude. If you aren't doing well in that class, he won't pay attention to you.
Taking an anatomy class will of course never be an easy A. Pollock was extra hard on us, but only because he knew our potential. He was always accessible outside of class and gave great feedback after exams. His sense of humor made class that much more interesting and his powerpoints were short and to the point, making studying a lot more easier.
Pollock was an amazing professor. He really made me love A&P even more. His lectures are great, I never minded attending this 8 am class. It is A LOT to study so study everyday. He does weekly quizzes , which seem annoying but help. technically you dont need the textbook but it helped me a lot. Attend office hours.
Lecture presentations are awesome! Plenty of pictures without too much text... quite different from other instructors . I liked all the analogies he uses in class too. Definitely wants to students to put in the work, but if you want to be in the health field it makes sense. Has tons of extra study material.. videos, activities, and good office hrs
Very enjoyable lecture presentations with lots of pics and gifs. Used good examples for real life situations and added a boost of humor to the material. Students are expected to put in work and make effort, but he provides plenty of support in office hours, email, videos, and activities. One of the better lecturers I've had at UTA.
Absolutely horrible, the worst experience I've ever had taking an online course (and I have a graduate degree - meaning I am used to online and brick and mortar. There are "support people" that you must communicate with before communicating with the professor, there's absolutely no flexibility, the assignments do not follow the exams.
Worst professor ever. Very sarcastic and doesnt help you when needed. I understand professors are meant to be difficult, but he is very rude. You should be helping your students not setting them up for failure.
Literally the most difficult professor. He gives homework thats supposed to help you understand the material bu it ends up ruining your grade bc he takes off points for random reasons. More difficult than it needs to be and Im going to med school. The info is interesting but he makes things sound complicated. Didnt enjoy the class as much.
He gives test reviews that don't help and when you fail he just expects you to attend more office hours and basically study harder. I had got a zero for a quiz where the questions didn't show up and he had no empathy considering we are in a pandemic and this is an online course and basically said "too bad."
It's the attitude for me. honestly, with all due respect, he's the worst professor ever. I wish he would realize that his students are humans and it's ok to show empathy towards them instead of showing them who's superior and demanding respect but not showing respect to others. The class is already hard and he makes his students HATE the subject.
Dr. Pollock is one of the best professors at UTA. His video recordings, as well as his lectures, are very detailed to where you don't need to use the book. There are lots of students complaining about how wordy his test is but this is to prepare students for the medical field, where you have to be meticulous.
I enjoyed Pollock as my A&P I professor--3 tests with homework and quizzes due each week which provided cushion for your grade. This is not an easy class because of the massive load of information, but with good study habits, an A is possible. Provides practice questions, chapter brochures, plenty office hours, & extra helpful videos so make use!
Dr. Pollock is by far the best professor at UTA. He is a little sassy with all honesty. But I have always been a visual learner, and he is the only professor I have had that actually caters to that. Awesome lectures, so helpful to students, loves teaching, interesting materials, and a wonderful teacher. 10/10 would recommend!
Professor Pollock is truly one of the greatest professor! He is very helpful and provides a lot of great study material/ resources for us to use. His lectures are straight to the point and he gives great analogies and examples. Dr. Pollock will help you if you ask. He will make time for you if you need extra help understanding the material!
One of the best professors at UTA. Human Physiology is a densely packed course, but he makes it manageable. Make sure to complete all homework to not miss out on easy points. Also, attend lectures, they're really helpful!
Dont be fooled by his personality, he is an AWESOME professor. Teaching skills are immaculate, can be rude though.
Very sarcastic. Homework and lectures are not helpful for testing. Enormous workload that he is not helpful with.
Unrealistic grading. If you get 12/15 right he still gives you a zero for not getting them all. This is discouraging and unfair. To spend hours on homework and do your best to still receive a zero because your answers weren't all correct.
Horrible. Huge work load and majority of it isnt on the tests or quizzes. Unprofessional. When you email him with questions he gets very sarcastic & rude, not helpful at all. Makes a lot of mistakes w/ quizzes & hw so every other day theres an email about something he had to fix. Lectures are super long and not helpful. Just awful.
He's a great professor but this class has so much information to cover. I am going to make an A, but I study 8 hours a day at least for this class. It blows my mind that it's available as an 8 week course. It's also offered as a 5 week course which I can't even imagine. There is SO MUCH INFO. If you don't study all day, you won't make an A.
If you dont mind his attitude (can be a bit abrasive), he is a great teacher. But he doesnt just give out grades, you need to work HARD if you want to do well in this class. It is imperative you utilize active studying in this class, and dont just read. It is A LOT of info crammed in just 8 weeks and youre going full steam the entire time.
I didnt like him at first because of the attitude but if you can tolerate it hes a fairly good teacher. He makes himself available for office hours, gives you a lot of lectures, explanations, and practice work like practice tests. He makes you work really hard for your grade. Gave us life saving EC because of the snowpacolypse in TX.
A&p1 AO. Be ready to eat sleep and breathe a&p for 8 weeks. If you have work and other stuff going on, i would make this your only class. Pollock is really good about emailing you back. Go to office hours. Make a study group, flashcards. Use every study aid he provides. An a is attainable, but not easy.
He teaches really well&you have to put in work, he's kind of annoying and petty. Could even possibly categorize him as a lazy teacher. Doesn't show you what you got wrong on exams.. instead he holds sad/ineffective exam reviews after the exam during office hours. not even 1 on 1 really. Too lazy to recreate exams each semester possibly?
AO A&P 1- Tough class, highly recommend making this your only STEM class if at all possible. You will spend hours upon hours studying for just this class alone if you want to have hope of getting a decent grade. Pollock is a great teacher but he does make you really work for your grade. Sometimes theres EC but not until the end of the term.
He would give assignments where it's either a 0 or a 100. Terrible learning with him online.
You're required to purchase a book for labs & quizzes. Quizzes have absolutely nothing to do with labs. You'll be completely caught off guard. Don't waste your time on the "practice tests. It's nothing like the actual test. Multiple-choice questions with 6+ choices. lots of HW that does not help.
Pollock may seem intimidating but he is honestly an amazing and cool professor! Studying the body is never going to be easy, so the class itself is tough. If you are disciplined in your study habits you wont have a problem. TAKE POLLOCK! He is as good as it gets when it comes to learning and understanding.
This is definitely a tough class but of all the professors, he's definitely your best option. His lectures are concise and funny, he bases his tests off his lectures not the textbook. Attendance isn't required but he gives random extra credit for coming. He also gives homework which helps you understand the material and helps boost your grade.
He is a great professor as long as you show up to your lectures you'll do fine. Most of his grades surround homework and tests, he is a tough grader but if you put in the effort he'll notice. Taking him online was great, he was understanding and gave some extra credit!
Overall the class is one of the hardest classes to take in itself if you don't prepare with his lectures and PowerPoints. He does provided some outlines to utilize for the Lab portion which are quite helpful. He can also be quite sassy but he does make class lectures quite enjoyable and teaches the material through differing methods as well.
He can be a little rude but overall is a decent professor. Homework mostly cushions your grade. You have to really study. No textbook needed, his ppts and lectures tell you all you need to know. Attendance isn't required, but you might get EC if you show up. Uploads pre-recorded lectures. Good prof if you're a visual learner.
Dr. Pollock clearly puts lots of effort into his teaching. He makes his own PowerPoints and makes tons of helpful study materials, including educational videos, brochures, activities, and other things. I've never had anyone give students so many things to help learn. Diverse ways to earn points too! Completely the opposite of a lazy teacher.
He makes his own PowerPoints and plenty of study materials, including videos, study guides, activities, and other things. Clearly he cares about how students learn. I highly recommend him as he has been one of the best professors I've had at UTA. If you're lazy or don't want to put in the work though, you may not like the course.
By far the best teacher in the Anatomy department, if you take A&P with another professor you're screwing yourself. His lectures are very thorough, and he tells you exactly what you need to know for the test and homework. He also gives plenty of things to use as study guides and he genuinely wants to see you succeed if you put in the effort.
Hes hard, a lot of information on tests and practicals. So do lots of active learning since its all closed book. You have to give it your all and hes caring when it comes to grading. But doesnt mean hell give you a higher grade just because, you have to work for it. But he gives you a lot of study material and advise. Can be rude but he cares.
I love professor Pollock! This was the best and easiest science class I have ever had. Attendance isn't mandatory but he talks about things that aren't on the PowerPoints that are on the test so take more notes on what he says. Make sure you study what he SAYS for the test and you'll definitely get an A
He is a great professor, attendance is not mandatory but he gives extra points for in class activities. Take notes on what he says, he tells you what to study for the test. Active learning is a must if you want an A. He provides an activity book, pre-recorded lectures, additional videos, and homework are great for studying.
He has his moments and knows his stuff, however, he is quite pedantic, to a ridiculous degree at times. If you fully do his homework, which there is a lot of if the lab is in the equation, but do it in the wrong format or slightly derivate from his expectations it's an instant 0. You must show up to class, and walk on eggshells to get an A.
He knows his stuff, but he is honestly super anal about small things. If you do everything right, he will likely give you an 8/10. If it is not EXACTLY how he wants it, it will be an automatic 0! If you do not show up to class and dont give this class all of your free time, it is very difficult to give an A. The lab practical was 100% BS.
An A is doable if you get a 100 on every HW assignment, which is HARD considering he takes off a lot of points for ridiculous things. There are other assignments that account for your grade which also help, BUT the exams are NOT EASY. Ever since the first exam I KNEW the rest of the exams were going to be a rollercoaster. Photographic memory A!!
To be honest, It is easy to make a B and above if you attend lectures, participate in activities, do all his homeworks AS HE INSTRUCTS even if you make a C on the exam, you'll stay in the B range at least. His exams are HARD this is not an easy class and you will have to listen to what he says in lectures to pass + watch videos!
This class was very meticulous on super small details, I did decent on the exams because I listed to his recorded lectures, listen to every SECOND of that recorded lecture because hell put the smallest details on exams, didnt really like lab, felt as if it hurt my grade nothing, the lab quizzes & practical were very difficult
Really great professor. Attendance mandatory, FOR YOUR BENEFIT. GO TO LECTURE! An A is def doable, just put in the effort. The other ratings are a bit inaccurate, because most people I know didn't try at all. You gotta know this info for med/dental school ... so I don't know why they expect an easy, low effort course. UNDERSTAND don't memorize.
I had to take this class and BIOL2457 even though I'm not a med student. It was extremely difficult for me, but Prof. Pollock is a great professor. He's laid back and responds to emails quickly. He communicates well, but moves very quickly.
Phenomenal lectures and if you go to all of them and stay active in his office hours, getting an A isn't the hardest. Truly exceptional at getting his point across, and this has been my favorite class I've had in years thanks to him!
His class was one of the hardest bio classes I've ever taken. However, he provided so many resources to study with, from pre-recorded videos to in class activities. He's a great lecturer. He taught EVERYTHING you need to know as a pre-health profession (for those admission exams too). Exam questions can be tricky. Interactive class and lab!
I took Pollock for A&P 1 and 2, and while the class itself is hard and the workload is heavy, he is one of my favorite professors. His lectures are very long and detail oriented, but he manages to keep class interesting and interactive. He is very willing to help outside of class and answers any questions. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Probably the best anatomy professor at UTA. It was a difficult course but it is definitely possible to get an A or a high B.
Dr. Pollock is a great professor and makes it clear what he wants. Make sure to review the material everyday as it's a lot, the exams aren't too hard but can be tricky. Use all the resources provided and you'll be all good. He loves the material and wants you to truly understand it too so there's no skimping on studying here.
Honestly my favorite class I took in all of undergrad! It's definitely a challenging course but Dr. Pollock knows what he's talking about and makes class very interactive. Mandatory attendance forces you to come to class to actually learn the material. Recommend this to any pre-health student, even if you don't need it for your degree!
You'll need book to access the online labs. Dr. P's the funniest and most relatable professor I've had. Weekly homework w/ clear grading criteria and daily in-class activities, so lecture is mandatory. He doesn't curve exams, but he'll replace lowest grade w/ the grade on the final if it's higher. Quick to answer emails and will give explanations.
Pollock is a good professor, but he expects a lot more from you than others. Be aware that there is a final exam and his tests are much harder than other professors. Know specific details or you will fail. I took Charles for A&P 1 and did significantly better in that class.
An awesome professor who gives SOOOO many resources for you to succeed in lectures. Hands down my favorite class I have ever taken at UTA. Tests arent super hard if you study the recommended material AND he gives you A LOTTTTT of other opportunities to raise your grade.
Dr. Pollock isn't the greatest professor ever but he is one of the best for A&P I. He lectures well and gives you lots of resources to be successful, including an activity book, educational videos, and study guides. Exams are HARD, don't underestimate them. And go to class! A&P is difficult no matter what but with a lot of studying you can succeed.
Taking Human Physio with Pollock was an experience! He gives so many opportunities to gain extra points, and majority of them come from attendance questions. He makes the material fun and easy to learn. A lot of the activities and labs for this class as well were actually fun and taught in a way that was easy to retain.
Dr. Pollock explains well during lecture, is very fun, and offers a lot of opportunities to keep your grade up with weekly homework and many in-class activities. Attendance is basically mandatory, but it's a good time lol. He has plenty of time for office hours and responds to email quickly. Participate, do homework, and listen, and you will pass
Pollock is Amazing. His exams are hard but he gives tons of extra credit and the homeworks are a good gpa booster. I recommend rewatching lectures on echo, youtube videos as well as watching the extra videos he posts on canvas. If you're still stuck go to HIMM. He's a very good natured man I loved him. Also make sure your lab grades are good .
Best professor we have at UTA!! Wish we could take this class again.
Pollock gave weekly HW and quizzes which helped with our grade. Exams were only 40% of our grade and the final 15%. Top Hat questions were given during class, so attend. He gives extra credit points during the semester and gives a 2 point curve to your overall final grade (lec and lab grade combined). Duable course if you put in the work.
Great professor!! Attending lecture is a key factor to getting a good overall grade in this course. He gives top hat questions during lecture at random and they help boost your grade the more you get right. Weekly homework and quizzes also help with your grade and help prepare you on how to study for exams.
This is a heavy course with a lot of material. He was clear when it comes to grading, so be sure to not accidentally mess up when it comes to submissions. Attending class is important. TopHat participation can serve as xtra credit. Just showing up won't make the cut..make sure to adopt study strategies outside of class & you'll be fine! :)
Dr. Pollock is an amazing professor that obviously cares about his students/his students' success! The class is mainly based on his lectures; there is a lot of material every class period, but he does an amazing job at explaining the content in a clear and understandable way. I felt that the exam questions were straightforward from lecture.
You will be teaching yourself via ppt and lecture from 2020 he did so if you aren't good with self instruction please choose another professor. There is no credit given for HW or curve system at all. Grade is 100% lab and exams everything is closed book. No word banks for tests. No exam prep just will show same ppt from his lecture
He just complains that his in person labs are harder than online so he thinks we should just deal with his rushed course with little to no guidance.
We are constantly told that "cramming" is not the appropriate way of learning information, right? But then we turn around and are asked to memorize 4 entire chapters of detailed information in a week. Exams are super detailed. Practicals point at one of 650 different areas on the body as if you had time in a week to memorize them all.
The course itself is tough but Pollock does a good job at explaining the material during his lectures and provides a lot of resources to help with studying including practice exams. His exams are not extremely hard and are easy to get As on as long as you study a good amount.
The course is hard itself but he does a great job explaining it and even gives certain examples that help you learn the material. He does provide resources that he links that can help you study for the exams and to work on in case your having trouble with something. His exams and quizzes aren't completely hard and are easy to pass if you study.
Great professor! He made his lectures very entertaining and was always great at explaining difficult concepts. He gives extra credit which is always great. Responds to emails in a timely manner. 10/10 recommend!
This course is very heavy so be prepared to study constantly so that you are not overwhelmed once the exam time comes. I do NOT recommend taking this with another science (seriously avoid doing this.) He often made uncomfy/inappropriate jokes during lectures and I found his power points to be over simplified compared to other professors. Good luck!
Very cocky professor and after what seemed like every concept taught he concluded it with "you should already know this" or my other favorite, "this is so easy." Lectures were interesting but I often felt like information was missing so be prepared to use other resources to learn concepts before quizzes/exams. Doesn't curve or offer extra credit.
Physiology is a difficult subject, but Dr. Pollock makes it enjoyable. There are weekly homeworks and quizzes, so make sure to keep up with them and the material. Lots of resources are provided in addition to the powerpoints. Didn't need to read the textbook. Lectures recorded. I would take this course again!
Anatomy and physiology is just a hard class. He will go over most of the test material in lecture, but occasionally you will have to learn something yourself (look at the objectives!). He is fair and a good teacher. Your grade is tests, quizzes, homeworks, lab presentation, activities in class, and a little EC. I would definitely take him again.
Overall, Dr. Pollock is a good instructor. He provides many sources and information to make sure you know the material well for what the exam will contain. There is a lot of information and a little learning curve to manage the work but once you get and idea of how to manage it will become doable.
He teaches by giving lots of analogies and there are educational videos posted in canvas if you are still confused after lecture. Lectures are engaging because he will show real life pictures and funny memes. He also has plenty of office hours during the week (where you can review your exam) and responds to emails pretty quickly (within 24 hrs).
Dr.Pollock moves extremely fast and is pretty vague in the lectures. It felt like the exams were very specific and lots of the material was just briefly covered, if it was even covered at all. He gave multiple chances for the quizzes, which was nice. He also gives extra credit for coming to class. However, he comes off very rude if you need help.
If you're one to miss an assignment or forget a quiz, don't take him. He simply does not care what you are going through so don't expect him to be nice and give you an extension or another chance. Work hard and turn in everything on time so you don't have to deal with him. He does in-class actives that help so don't miss class.
This professor is very narcissistic, I received a good grade in his class however it was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. His exams are so different from what you learn in the lecture. I don't think he has good reviews due to his teaching. He is also very rude and makes inappropriate jokes during class.
His tests are VERY detailed. Do not go into this thinking that you show know the overview of systems/material. You need to know very specific details. I have a biochemistry degree and taking this A&P course was a lot tougher than any other class I've taken before. Don't do it.
I found his tests extremely difficult. Almost half the questions are fill in the blank...or..."___ is to ___ as ___ is to___". Homework has lots of "arrange into correct order" must get 100% correct. He doesn't open weekly assignments early which is really hard if you are working as a nurse or CNA trying to get homework done on your day off.
I found his communication to be very rude. He was bothered by students emailing him. The fault is all yours and he blames the students instead of his exams or content.
sometimes i feel this professor has gender issues like when girls talk to him he is so nice and happy spend alot of time explaining stuff but when male ask him u feel he is in a war zone he just wanna run away. he is bad grader many time time grade my quiz or homework and he made many mistakes. his test different than what he teach in class so hard
This professor ahs the hardest quizzes and exams out of every professor I have ever taken. I rather prefer in-person scantron tests rather than his online tests which consist of matching, fill in the blank, and putting things in order let alone some things he has never went over in lecture (I have never missed a lecture)
I do not recommend this professor for AO students. He does not curve even though the test average was ~60 for 2/3 exams. The final is barely comprehensive. It's a tough course, yes, but he made it worse. No final exam review either.
A&P is just a difficult course, there's no way around it. 2457 is notably harder than 2458 imo, but both courses are pretty hard. If you miss deadlines or do not like following rubrics to a tee, he is not the professor for you. A homework and multiple quizzes per weekend, but they really help w/ exam prep. Overall good prof, hard class.
Make sure you read the PowerPoints and look over ALL of the images. He is an extreme stickler for rules and will not make exceptions, especially on homework. His exams aren't too difficult if you go to class and spend a few hours a day studying. A&P I is harder than A&P II. You can succeed with him depending on how much effort you put in.
In the nicest way, this class was horrible. Professor Pollock is a very strict professor who continuously expects us to know things he does not teach. The quizzes mention things we never went over in class, and the exams are the same. The slides are not very helpful either, so you're basically on your own. Definitely would not take him again.
He's very nice and his lectures are very entertaining. If you don't study and attend lecture, you won't pass.
He is the type of professor who will put in a lot of effort, and expect you to do the same. Don't take his class if you think it's going to be easy because you have to devote a lot of time outside of class to study. But if you take adequate notes during lectures, study his slides, and go over your quizzes before his exams, you will be fine.
Pollock is the GOAT of uta bio professors. Stellar powerpoints that have all the material you need. Hilarious lectures that fly by. Extremely good at simplifying hard concepts. He genuinely cares about his students and has fun extra credit and attendance questions. The only class I've ever hated missing. Favorite course ever :)
Dr. Pollock is an awesome dude, he genuinely cares about his job and his students and it shows. This class is A LOT of info but straightforward- 3 exams, 1 final that replaces your lowest grade, homworks, in class activities. his questions are just worded tricky so always read carefully
I took his class in person, which was hard overall because A&P is a hard class. He provides countless resources and study guides to prepare for the exams. I recommend going to SI sessions because they are very helpful. STUDY THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES and visit his office hours if you have questions!
Highly encourage listening to his recorded lectures closely because stuff he briefly mentions pops up in quizzes. Also, the tests are incredibly detailed, so make sure you have a great grasp on the topics. Following the learning objectives will help! Overall, I found this class to be way tougher than the last A&P however it's doable if you study.
he emphasizes active learning and makes you put in effort yourself. lectures are clear and well-paced and he is always open to questions. the course is not easy but he breaks it down and explains it super well. very easy quizzes and hws. exams dont always reflect what was gone over in class so make sure you study everything equally well. no curves.
This man is is ridiculously strict when it comes to turning in your assignments. If you don't turn in your assignment in the "exact" format he wants as stated in the instructions, he will give you a fat zero. Spent 3 hours doing your homework with the correct information but wrong format? That's a zero. Vise-versa that? That is 100. DoNotRecommend!
1-no good review for exam-too many study tools to choose from that did not help for such in-depth material and exam ended up being different from study materials (eg pictures vs drawings) 2-Professor would not release exam scores before drop deadline. Forced to drop without knowing if really needed to 3-some cringey lecture comments
he deserves a negative rating due to his egotistical personality and his lack of empathy for his students. the course is already hard his personality makes it worse. he makes inappropriate comments and gets extremely upset over his students making small mistakes and will take his anger out on you. dropped this class & took aranda, never looked back
Professor is one of the best professors I've had. He teaches well and challenges students the right amount. He's a very picky grader, so if you seek perfection all the time, class is not for you. Make sure to listen to his lectures attentively. Most of the questions on the exams and quizzes are from his lecture slides and things he says in class.
I was on the Dean's List prior to this class and have never failed a class in my life. This was the hardest teacher I have ever had. He proctored he syllabus quiz. When I spoke to the advisor he said this teacher gets numerous complaints. Wish UTA would listen.
He was my lab and lecture instructor. I found his materials to be so helpful! The practical's are difficult, but if you make flashcards out of the learning objectives you'll be fine. You have to be ready to work in this class, it will not just be handed to you. He is available for questions and is very helpful. He is very organized, so that is good
This class is no easy feat, but with dedication and the right study tools like unstuckstudy, you can succeed. Attend lectures, study the slides, and be prepared for detailed exams. It's a tough course, but doable with diligence.
i saw a quote not that long ago that said, “sometimes people are in your life to show you who you DONT want to be” and i firmly that's why fate caused me to meet this man. zero empathy after my mom had a stroke and i failed his class. nicholas pollock taught me who i never want to become better than he ever taught me biology.
Dude is on some predator time.
