Young but good. By far the most helpful professor in the department and definitly marked for good things in life.
Dr. Rupp is one of the best Econ teachers that I have ever taken. Do the homework and you will make a "B" or higher
I think he is ****
This man was horrible. I studied my ass off for every exam and still managed a D in the class. All he does is talk about his daughters and say "um and and um" all the time. He is boring and I would not reccommed his class. PS dont get Sally Bax
Good teacher. Read the chapters and go to class and you will do fine. He explains the chapters very well and he gives you review sheets. He doesn't take roll but you will do better if you go to class.
this teacher is one of the hardest teachers here at ECU..his material is very heard to understand..he teaches as if he is refreshing you, not learning for the 1st time, i dont rec taking him, he doesnt curve any and no hw just test grades
This man is the worst, if you could get over his st st st studdering then you migh learn something. I failed horribly and it wasnt becasue i didnt go to class, or didnt study. I recommend him if you want to fail, or be board with stories about his kids.
He is one of the best teachers in the econ department. He breaks up class which doesn't make it so boring! :)
The best teacher I have ever had at ECU. He gives the best lectures and is very clear. Come to class and take notes and you will do very good in his class. He gives breaks and tells stories.
Assigns homework that is very similiar to the test. Study and do the homework and study for the industry quizzes and you will do fine.
Dr. Rupp is the best teacher in the Econ department. The only thing bad about him is that he is a UNC fan which is really bad. Rupp is the MAN!!!!
fun and lively. class goes by fast. material hard, but he will work with you if you ask
Dr. Rupp is awesome- he starts every day with interesting story- gives you a break in the middle of class- he doesnt take roll- hes very clear on what you should know- he has a TA do review sessions- has study guides.so the material isnt easy- but he's the best you can get for this subject- trust me

He is an energetic professor, but the downside is that attendance is basically necessary. The book is inadequate, unlike most econ courses' selections, to read and do well in mid level courses. He assigns homework, which isn't that difficult. His tests, though, can hit you if you did miss class as they are heavily weighted on a few problems.
The class, 3144, is designed so that if you do not come to class you will struggle - this is done by choosing a textbook (expensive) that does not cover the topics he tests on in detail, if at all. He is personally likeable and enthused in class although less so out of class. I will admit that I went to 6 classes b/c I knew the material, got an A.
Excellent teacher, and very helpful. Gives homework, and attendance is a must if you want to do well. I got a B in the class.
Go to class, do the homework, and you will do fine. I got the last edition of the textbook for $2-3 on Amazon and it was the same thing, but we never really used it, except on definitions for the homework (there are 10 homeworks worth 10 points each throughout the semester). 3 tests, 1/2 MC 1/2 Short Answer. Comprehensive but EASY final. Take!
Easy to understand his material and gives easy tests that are based off of the HW. Classes aren't filled with just boring lecture; breaks it up with activities. Would take a class of his again.
get him if you can. hes an AWESOME teacher. just go to class and pay attention and you should do well on exams. always has a story to tell at the beginning of class. His tests are easy, there very similiar to homework questions. by far the best professor his dept.
Professor Rupp likes to make class fun. He's very good at giving lectures. Doesn't get a lot of feedback that he deserves.
Dr. Rupp is great. Makes course material very clear. Always answers questions completely to assure comprehension of material. Makes class "fun" with his digressions.
Great teacher. Makes class fun. Only bad thing is that he's a big UNC fan.
easy teacher just uses tests for grades, i didnt even go to class and got an a. he curves alot. i did read most chapters for the classes i did not attend.
I have taken ECON 2X before, but Rupp definately explains things better than my other profs!!GO TO CLASS! even though he doesn't take roll, you can't expect to understand it if you don't go!! people in my class keep complaining to me that they don't understand it...GO TO CLASS DARNIT!!!!!!!!!you might actually get it!!!
Awesome teacher! Hes is available to help. This class takes a lot of studying but its worth it. USE THE BOOK, not only for the test but the homework too. But i would definetly recommend him!!!!
I hardly ever go to class or read the text and I have a 100+ average... and I've never taken a formal economics course before. Rupp is outstanding due to his clarity and passion (from what I remember from the first two meetings).
Dr. Rupp, Is a wonderful instructor. He is one of best professor's I had at ECU. If you have to take this class, I do recommend you to take Dr. Rupp if you want to pass. Even though Dr. Rupp is very helpful, you do have to study and come to class even if it is not Mandatory. Dr. Rupp, thank you for everything!
he is a really nice guy, but i thought his class was reallly hard. you can choose to do the homework or not. and tests are 90 perecent of your grade and homework 10. he helped me out with my final average which was nice. He only curved one test in my class.
DO NOT TAKE DR. RUPP. His class is one of the hardest classes I have taken. He flips a coin if its even the people in ending in even banner ids have to do homework and odd ids do not have to do it. His tests are really hard and so are the homeworks. A LOT OF STUDYING AND READING FROM THE BOOK. THIS GUY IS IMPOSSIBLE.
AWESOME! He is a very nice professor and he loves to have conversation about not only class but also about his life and yours. He offers so many help options, old test and study guides. I could have gotten an A if i would have actually studied. DEF TAKE HIM!
He has been my favorite teacher by far! I love his class. He is very clear and easy to understand. He is willing to answer questions and help you if you need it. Homework is your choice. Tests are not too bad if you study and review old tests. Plus, he curves them a lot. I totally recommend Rupp! He's awesome!!
!! Best econ prof at ECU imo. HW is opt. 4 tests w/ curves. attendance not req. but it helps alot.
Wonderful teacher! his stories are amazing and entertaining, it takes your mind off of econ for a while. Curves alot! highly recomended!!!!! :D
Really hard to understand, and difficult for no reason. I read the book and that's easier to understand than his mile a minute talking. He flips a coin and half the class had to do homework and the other half didn't. I could say he was unfair, but I'll just say, don't take his class unless you want to be a little confused and get an average grade.
Pretty difficult material but if you go to class and pay attention you can understand. Make sure you do the practice tests from his test bank because its basically the same as the test you will take. He curves most of the tests too!
Very hard to understand. I ended up dropping the class because he made no sense. Definitely review old tests if you have him. It was kind of unfair of how he assigns homework and how the final grade is calculated of those who do homework vs those who dont.
Best professor in the business. He is very clear and makes sense. You must come to class to do well. He's a funny guy and keeps the material interesting. If you take only 1 econ class...take it from him. Oh yea, I think he's hot too!
Great professor
Mr. Rupp is a great professor. He wants you to understand the material. You should go to class even though it's not required and homework is optional. STUDY HARD FOR THE EXAMS!
The material isn't difficult but there's a good amount of memorizing. If you've taken hard classes before, this won't be bad but if you've only taken micro and macro econ, this is a bit harder. If you read the book, you won't have to go to class, just make sure to do your homework and get the correct answers from blackboard when he posts them.
Awesome teacher. He really got me into economics! He does a lot of demonstrations and if you volunteer for them you usually get candy or something out of it. Go to class, take good notes, and review old tests when studying.
"HOWDY" Awesome teacher, really explains the material and gives great in class examples. Gives a study guide before each test and you can also use his old test that he post online; which is recommended. All in all he is a great teachER and I wish he taught Macro. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Good teacher. He's really fair and he takes the time to explain everything and includes the students so you learn more. Go to class and read the chapters... you will do a lot better.
great teacher.
Such a good teacher! You can tell he really cares about the students understanding the material. Very helpful. Very cool. Howdy!
Great teacher, makes this subject that can be very hard understandable. GO TO CLASS its crucial. Dont need to buy the book!!!
Had no idea exactly what Microeconomics was but he makes it as fun as he can and tons of practice problems for the tests. If you study wont get a bad grade. Past tests are all posted online, practice homework and basically everything you need. great guy!
I love Dr. Rupp! He is so thorough and you can tell he really loves what he does. I thought I was going to end up hating this class and he was going to be boring but it turned out one of my best ones. Going to class really helps and he even rounded my B+ to an A- so, he's great in my book! :)
Howdy! Rupp is Awesome! very helpful, clear speaker, passionate, and I love his stories! Use the old test he gives on Blackboard to study for the test and use your old test for the Final and you'll succeed. Be sure to go to class to get your clicker grade if I had done so my grade would have been a lot better!
Great teacher, lectures and speaking are crystal clear. Go to class and do the homework and if you work hard you should do well. The material is difficult so you need to put the effort in.
Rupp is a great teacher! He made a difficult subject a lot easier to understand! He puts in a lot of effort to see his students succeed. Go to class for the clicker points and examples, do the blackboard homework, and use the old tests and you'll do fine! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE BOOK HE HAS POWERPOINTS!
The subject matter is dull, but he is easy to get along with and helpful. Expectations are very clear. Most of grade is from tests. Some of grade is from Chapter homework, and a little from class.
Professor Rupp is awesome! Makes class interesting and gives a break during class. Can tell he cares about his students and wants them to understand the material. Don't buy the book, all you need is his power points and his old tests are online. If you have to take this class take Rupp!
Attendance not required, but I definitely recommend attending every class if you want to make an A or B. Clicker questions are used in class so if you miss class you lose the points. The material is difficult and strange, unlike any other class I've ever taken, so studying is definitely required. Homework was online and takes awhile to complete.
Howdy! Professor Rupp was one of the best large class professors I've had. His power points are clear and easy to understand. The most difficult part of class was the homework. If you attend class and run through some of the old tests in the test bank before an exam it is not difficult to do well.
This class is extremely difficult. If you are lazy, you will not pass this class!
Attendance is taken through clicker questions, show up to class because those add up. Rupp is a great guy and is really passionate about ECON. He's really good a dumbing things down to make it easier to understand. Which is what you really need in a course like this one!
Dr. Rupp is a great person and tries to keep the class interesting. He tells silly stories and gives a break during class. The tests and material are difficult however you can find old tests online and if you study those hard you'll succeed. Difficult class so be warned, but he's probably the best professor to take it with. Book is essential.
Howdy! A warning to those thinking of taking this class. If you don't go to class you will not pass. The class is extremely difficult, but is worthwhile if you are a finance, business or economics major.
Rupp is an awesome guy. You definitely have to work hard in this class. It is difficult, but he always answered any questions I had. LOVED HIM.
He gives much homework which helps understand lessons. Gives time to students who have problem understanding.
I've had Dr. Rupp for several classes. Dr Rupp. is extremely knowledgeable, and is always willing to help you out. If you are lazy, skip class, and don't put effort into his classes you simply will not pass. Also the book is REQUIRED for 4020. Many people didn't buy it, and then couldn't figure out why they failed his bi-weekly quizzes.
He's a great teacher! Micro def isn't the easiest course, but he explains everything very well. do not wait until the night before to study!
I took this online along with my other general courses. ECON 2113 has tons of work but helpful materials. If you are employed full time, do NOT take this class in summer. You will struggle-I did. I thought ECON was just about tax, demand vs supply, and etc. It's not. Dr. Rupp is great- he will help you in any way he can but u gotta STUDY.
Mr Rupp was amazing. He's gives lots of extra credit opportunities as well. If you don't come to class , you definitely won't pass.
Prof Rupp was very good at making concepts relatable to college students. he explains things very well and is a great teacher. i was in the hybrid class, so going to class wasn't exactly needed to pass since the lectures were online, but going to class helped me to get an A on every test.
Dr. Rupp's class was very confusing. He talks very fast and mumbles. When asked a question, he usually doesn't give a clear answer. You will have 1-2 online homework's a week which are pretty easy if you google the answers. Nice person, though!
ALL Clicker questions count for a grade and they are hard! Lectures are gone through very fast and are boring. A lot of reading must be done on your own if you want to pass the test. (I basically had to teach myself) He is very funny however It was very difficult for me to do well in this class.
He is such a good professor and explains all the concepts very well in his lectures.
He is a really nice guy but probably one of the worst professors I have ever taken. He talks way too fast for you to understand and his tests are really hard. I basically have to teach myself.
Dr. Rupp is a great professor! He really works to make sure everyone understands the content. There are 4 tests, 14 homework assignments, daily clicker questions, and a final exam. He always has extra credit questions on his tests. The best way to pass his tests are to going to class and looking at his old test bank. I would highly recommend him.
Rupp is a great professor and tries to keep things as simple as possible. You don't have to go to class but clicker points do add up to about 75 points. There's 4 tests and then a final based on everything you've learned, studying is very important for this class!!!!
Great teacher
I loved this man! He was usually pretty funny and laid back but always did a good lecture. The class itself is hard but he tries hard to bring it down to an understanding level. GET CLICKER POINTS they add up in the end!
Really nice guy, overall one of the hardest classes I've taken to this point. READ the textbook and COME to class, clicker questions will be given everyday and they are taken as a grade.
Really cool professor, makes class fun, BUT, test are ridiculously hard compared to other Econ professors, so if you are able to take someone else do your best to do so. If you don't go to class you'll probably fail. Homework, clicker points and Test are the only things graded, but Homework doesn't move your grade much, if you fail a test, ur shot.
Best professor i've had so far since i've been at ECU. If you go to his office hours & talk to him, you can tell that he genuinely cares about his students and will do anything to help you understand the material. His tests are difficult but if you go to class, they shouldn't be as hard. Micro is the hardest class i've took but he made it bearable
Dr. Rupp is very kind and always begins class by saying "Howdy!" The class was hard for me. I did so well because I actually read the textbook and studied in advance for tests. He is very willing to help though if you need it. Definitely come to class. Clicker points and homework are graded and they add up to help you. 4 tests + final.
This guys got a lot of reviews for other classes but whatever you do do not take ECON 4020 Industrial organization. This is the hardest class that you can take in the econ undergrad program(including econometrics). Take whatever other electives you can. First exam had to have a 15 point curve because the class average was 54.
You should definitely take this professor if you want a great Micro teacher at ECU. He cares about the students passing and will curve tests most of the time. Lectures are interesting enough to follow along and not get too bored unlike other professors. overall, good teacher.
Dr. Rupp has been one of the best professors I have had so far. There is a textbook that is optional but you SHOULD get it (its super cheap on Amazon). He doesn't take attendance but I promise you you won't pass if you don't show up. He gives really good lectures. Graded by 4 tests, cumulative final, and chapter homework's (online)
ECON 4020 will crush your spirit if you aren't prepared to learn from a quality professor. I took the class without having taken either Intermediate Micro nor Intermediate Macro. Also, I had to relearn some calculus on my own to keep pace. It was very hard - but not impossible. This class should be a requirement for entrepreneurs.
I took this class online for a summer session. I had about 4 homework assignments a week and a test about every week. If you watch the lecture videos and take notes you will pass. Some of the subjects take a bit to fully understand but he provides homework for that. And the answers for the homework quizzes are all on Quizlet. You can't not pass
This class is probably one of the hardest I have taken. Our class averages for tests were no more than a 75. Every test had a huge curve and I went from a C+/B- to getting a final grade of a D. I wish I would have picked a different teacher. Granted, it was an 8 week summer class but I will never take another class with this professor again.
Amazing teacher actually taught the class unlike other online teachers that I have had where they just throw random junk at you and tell you to figure it out
I think if I were given a better professor I could have passed this class with a better grade. I honestly think the LA's for this class themself were more helpful than professor Rupp was. He also made us take his exams on both lockdown AND webex which is extremely difficult and distracting.
Really great professor that actually cares about his students and puts effort into making a hard class enjoyable. gives fun options for extra credit. funny guy, I would recommend this class.
If you want to pass, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. His lectures are very confusing and doesn’t explain topics well enough. He just gives you a worksheet in hopes you know what you are doing. Gives good extra credit points but only receive if you go to class. His point system for grading is very confusing and you wont know your actually grade.
Rupp is one of the best professors I have had so far. He gives tons of opportunities for extra credit and curves his tests by 10-18 points. Attendance is not required but you definitely don't want to miss too many classes or you won't understand the material. He wants everyone to succeed and explains everything very well. Take him for micro.
This would have been a better course if I had a different professor. He wasn't very helpful through email or helpful when explaining the content. He gave good extra credit but had to be in class to receive it. Throughout the class, you never knew your final grade until the end of the semester. I would not recommend this professor if you want to pas
Prof Rupp wasn't just a good prof, he was a good person. he was funny and makes something as mundane as Econ relatively interesting. he gives out extra credit too. I would definitely take him again
I took Professor Rupp's Micro Econ course first semester of freshman year and enjoyed the class. He is funny, caring, and helpful all throughout the course .Attendance is not mandatory however if you don't attend you will be lost come test day. He gives out huge amounts of extra credit. Highly recommend his course especially if you're a freshman.
Although attendance is not taken, definitely go to class. Every class he always offers extra credit through clicker questions and attempts to entertain everyone in the lecture. For studying for his exams, just do the practice exams he posts on Canvas, the questions are nearly identical.
Quiz every single day on top of a ton of reading and videos that are boring!!!! No matter how much you study and watch the videos, you're never prepared for the quizzes/exams. The tests include a lot of things that are hidden in the readings/videos. Would not recommend him. May be different if full semester but a big no for summer semesters.
Tests are hard, homework can only be done one time for a grade, VERY resistant to help, just leads you to the handouts that he posted in Canvas, didn't even reach out for a 1-1 help session until the very end of the term. It could be totally different if this was a face to face class, but he made the class very difficult.
This is the best economics professor (IMO)! Microeconomics can be hard (coming from a previous major switch) but I will say he relays information so clearly, he makes class interactive it does not feel long. He gives curves on tests and points during the lecture. Do the practice test! Go to your LAs, go to class, and respond if he asks questions.
If you are going to take ECON 2113 you need to take it with Mr. Rupp. The material is confusing at first, but he does a great job explaining the concepts. Do the practice tests and actually try on the weekly homework and you will be fine. Attendance is not mandatory but if you do not go to class you're just not going to pass.
Rupp is a great professor to take. HW is taken as a grade and you only have one attempt but he gives test review guides (DO THOSE). He takes questions straight from there and the HW assignments and the tests aren't too bad to take. Doesn't take attendance but if you go to class you can get extra credit by getting questions correct. Curves tests!!
The class was long and boring. His slideshows are bad and the only way to
Professor Rupp is one of my favorite teachers at ECU. Although we had a very small class size with minimal participation, he was there to assist me with every question I had and often went above and beyond. His credentials speak for themselves and he truly cares about his students. I highly recommend every econ major/minor student takes his class!
Dr. Rupp is a good and entertaining professor. Go into this class with a positive attitude, PUT THE PHONE DOWN, pay attention, and STUDY and you'll do great. Another recommendation is sit in the front. He tends to come by the front rows during worksheets to answer questions and he's much better at answering questions than his TAs (sorry TAs).
Dr. Rupp's class is very easy to do well in if you put in the effort. He does not take attendance but you can earn extra credit if you come to class. He offers tutoring sessions, makes the lectures interesting and covers the material very well. He will give you every opportunity to do well in his class. I highly recommend him.
He knows what he's talking about. If you want to learn the content you will. Study for exams and you'll be good.
Take microeconomics with him if you can. The class can be hard but as long as you show up to every class and pay attention, you will be good. Study the slides and do the homeworks. TAKE THE PRACTICE TESTS. Make sure to ask the TA's for help if you are struggling. The professor is understanding and is ready to help when needed
This professor does not know how to teach. He kept reminding us if we failed the class it was our fault? He has multiple TAs who also don't know how to teach. I was left confused all the time and never received proper help. I ended up withdrawing from this class.
Professor Rupp's class is easy to do well in if you put in the effort. Go to class and pay attention-- he will teach you everything you need to pass the tests. Ask questions when you get lost. Take the provided practice exams, they will identify what your weak-points are. Tests are curved. Gives extra credit to those who attend the lectures.
This is probably the best professor I have ever had. Attendance was not mandatory, but if you showed up to class, he would ask questions on the material and give extra credit if you got it right. The class is easy to pass; just read the textbook, do your homework, and attend class. Tests/homework are based on the textbook; he also curves tests.
Rupp is a great professor who makes microeconomics engaging. His tests are fair if you attend class, complete the practice exams, and use study tools like Unstuck ai. Definitely take this class if you want to actually learn the material.
dr rupp is the goat
Great professor, very professional. Took online and provided very useful resources. Very straight up and informative. Definitely do all extra credit. Curves exams and grades very fair.
Dr. Rupp is an amazing professor who actually makes economics engaging as a non-business major. There are about 2 homework assignments weekly, but they are not bad if you attend class. You get extra credit points for answering clicker question in class, giving incentive to go. Tests are very similar to the practice exams and they are curved fairly.
AMAZING professor! Curves on exams and extra credit questions in each class you attend. Teaches the course through a slideshow and lecture, then you work on a non-required worksheet in class. Very helpful if needed and understanding.
There are two homework assignments each week, along with extra credit for attending class, and exams are curved. There is also some support available, such as study options and help from former students. However, the class itself is very boring and not engaging, and the frequent worksheets can feel repetitive. The tests are difficult.
