this class in general is easy as long as your not nervous all the time i mean its speech u have to stand infront of people and talk .. but he is very anal about his grading he picks at little things that bring down your grade. bottom line is if your not a creative and outgoing person you can prob get a better grade with another teach

he is very picky with his grading if your not good at speaking infront of people then find another teach cuzz he will mark you for all the little things doesnt matter how nervous you are but hes not the worst teacher class is fun but juss have to be very outgoing person

the most wonderful man in the world i speak very easily in front of people but for those who don't he makes it very easy and comfortable our class was very friendly and helpful towards each other .. so sad he doesn't teach other subjects .. absolutely gorgeous

THE BEST... your going to speak in front of the class the very first day. don't worry though by the end of the semester the class will be a nurturing environment as he says. His accent is BBBOOMMMBBB like a harry potter movie!

THE perfect Speech 101 teacher for anyone nervous about the class. It's not super easy, but like he says, "if you work hard in the class, you will get an A." He adds humor, everyone's really supportive & everyone improves. His criticism is very constructive. I would recommend him to ANYONE!

Of all my experiences at GCC this has been my best. Prof Smith is the most caring, interested, interesting, fair teacher I have had so far. If you go and put your 100 percent you will get a good grade in his class. I was so sad when this class ended. Taking it was a confidence builder and it was like being a part of a family

Professor Nick Smith or Nigel is a very fun instructor. He makes u feel so confortable n it comes 2 give a speech one forgets fear. He's very funny and I highly recommend him. He is such confidence builder that by the time one is done with the speech class all fears of speaking in public are gone at least that's how I feel. Thank u Professor Smith!

Mr. Smith is an EXCELLENT teacher! I feared taking this class, but right after the first meeting, I kept looking forward to it ! I no longer fear public speaking and he's the reason for it! It's not an easy class, but DEFINITELY a worthwhile class. HIGHLY recommend him!

This guy is an ok teacher kind of pickey on grading but not hard he def play favorites esp with hott girls he likes and u can tell but he's not a hard teach if ur well outspoken

He has an accent which is pretty neat. The online speech class is pretty simple, I haven't really had any trouble with his grading and he usually responds on your paper on how you could improve or just his thoughts. Overall good class.

I took Speech 101 and 100 with Mr. Smith. He is the best teacher one could ever imagine, so much fun to be in his class, extremely clear with instructions and extremely helpful, responds to e-mails very quickly unlike other professors very kind and caring person.

Smith is considerate & clear in assignments which makes the class worth your while. If any questions/concerns I'll email Smith & within the next day if not sooner he responds. Cool teacher. The best thing about this difficult (for most) class is that he created a classroom environment where we all felt comfortable around each other which made the speeches easier. Two planned speeches, but you will have to give some impromptu speeches and speak in front of the class often. But what do you expect? Recommend.

Mr. Smith is wickedly funny and is terrific at responding to emails fast with the information you need. The class itself isn’t exactly easy; the tests and quizzes are straight out of the book, but they’re pretty hard. The writing assignments, discussions and group projects are fun. I’ll bet Mr. Smith is a lot of fun in person; he's great online.

Best speech professor. I'm very shy at public speaking and Nick had a great time breaking my shell this semester. His class is a challenge but his accent makes up for it :D great class accommodated with a delightful professor

Honestly, this class is by far my most favorite class I have ever taken in Glendale Community College. He is easy to deal with, he cares a lot about the students and he is clear on what he expects. Because 103 is a group discussion class it also depends on the people in the class to make lectures worth it.

This teacher is great. He will inspire you to appreciate the art of speech. He knows his stuff and will make you the best at this subject. Punctuality with him is very important. If you are absent or late a lot he will ding you for it. So be there and on time or your grade will suffer. Besides that he is a very good teacher but tough.

Professor Nicholas Smith is great! I took his class during the fall semester of 2015 and it was a class to remember. Though public speaking is never my strongest suit since I hate speeches, he helps with what you need to improve on. He's strict with pronunciation and the whole scanning the room, looking at your peers but overall, I recommend him.

Took this class as a hybrid course and was glad I did! He is one of the best professors I've taken. He understands that public speaking is a difficult thing for most of us, so he makes it as easy as possible! I would recommend him to anyone wanting to take speech!

This class was my favorite class! He is the greatest teacher of all-time. He really helps you. You will enjoy going to his class because it is just so fun. I highly recommend him. I got an easy A. He has a wonderful personality and attitude towards his students. Btw, his British accent makes you like him one-thousand times more.

Wonderful Class. He went over all the material. You must do all you work. 1 low grade on an exam or presentation will automatically stop you from getting an A in the class. Do not miss class nor come late. All presentations need to be well prepared so practice.

Prof. Smith is a really great man, he has a funny way of making the class laugh! I enjoy his class, and learn a lot from him. I highly recommend for anyone who wants to take a speech class to take it with him. You have to only do 3 speeches a semester, but attendance is mandatory. Great man, great teacher. Made class very enjoyable, the playful environment helped ease the pain of talking in front of a class. Does give a bit of homework which is mandatory if you want any chance of at least a B. Not an "easy A", but definitely laid-back. Would definitely recommend!

Gives only 3 speeches for the entire semester, a midterm and a final. Not difficult at all. Really prepares you for each speech.

Good professor. Show up, participate, stay engaged, succeed on what is expected and you will be fine. I got what I deserved, no doubt an A or even A+. The content that I learned in the class was worth taking as it applies to daily life. I compose myself better than I did before, and it truly is exciting to see myself grow so much in only 5 weeks!!!

Prof. Smith has been, undoubtedly, the best teacher I've ever had, period. He truly wants you to succeed in his class and gives you the means to do so. I personally loved this Course. I took it over summer and I had the best experience in his class. I loved the care that he has for all his students, along with the fact that he makes us go up to the front of the classroom which makes one become more confident.

BEST SPEECH PROFESSOR AT GCC!! Class was taken over summer and consisted of about 4 easy quizzes and one final. About 3 in-class speeches which you had plenty of time to prepare for. Gave lots of good feedback! Very funny and class was never boring. Easy A and gives extra credit too!

He is an awesome professor, kinda grades hard but if you show that you're putting effort into the speeches he will give you a high B or low A. There is a midterm and final but they're easy, straight forward and from the book; three in-class speeches. He helped me overcome my fear of public speaking! And he is so helpful outside of class

Awesome professor, makes you feel comfortable and wants you to succeed. He only assigns 2 main speeches. Take his class! You will not regret it and he has an awesome accent. The class is pretty easy, but you have to earn the A.

The best teacher I have ever had. Mr. Smith is really nice and caring. All his class materials are very clear . There are some great discussions and assignments. If you read the book and do your homeworks, you will be ok and pass the class with A. I enjoyed his class and if I need some classes which he teach, I will take him for sure.

You may feel you are more confident than before. Most people in this class finally controlled their nerves and did a good job on their speech. The class was organized. He tried his best to teach us a lot of good knowledge about speech. The teacher didn't assign too much homework, but the homework was very effective.

Believe me take him and you will no regret. No stress and a lot of fun. Our speeches we were recording and submitting in the Canvas.

Clear syllabus from the get go! Read each chapter, then did discussions, essays, and quizzes. Gave a sufficient amount of time to complete all assignments in a 5 week course. Gives lots of feedback. This was my first time taking an online course and will be taking another online course with Prof. Smith next.

I learned more than I expected in this class and actually looked forward to going. Grade is based on 4 online quizzes, 3 speeches, midterm, and final. Attendance affects your participation so don't skip class.

Prof. Smith is a chill guy. Really makes Speech something easy to tackle & overcome. If I put more effort into my speeches, I would have gotten an A; he'll def give you the opportunity to do so! Grades based mostly on speeches, some quizzes & the final. Offers straightforward grading & outlines/guides. Charming but something complex about him haha.

Smith is one of the best teachers at GCC. He's from the UK, so the accent is always cool. Very simple criteria when grading and not too much bookwork, as it should be for a speech class. Really nice guy and I wish all my other teachers were like him!

Didnt feel like sitting through a speech class when I already feel confident in my speaking ability. Also wanted to save time. Smith has laid out a very easy to follow course. Five total speeches and the longest is only required to be 3 min. You are also graded on weekly discussions and a few quizzes/tests here and there. Excellent instructor.

One of the best professors at GCC. He is caring yet honest. I was terrified to take speech, but it ended up being my favorite of the semester. There is plenty of room for creativity and assignments are clear cut. You have plenty of time to finish everything and as long as you have good attendance and decent speeches, you should do great.

EASY! I took this course online and it was super easy, Discussions, four 800 word essays, and 8 quizzes, a midterm and final.

He is an amazing professor! Rarely you will ever meet or be able to take a class with a professor who actually cares about the class and the students. If you do the work you will pass. I highly recommend this professor! A GEM

Excellent professor, completely recommend! Assignment information was clear, grading ruberic always provided, and what is required of you is always clear. Learned so much, truly gave me tools to be able to give a variety of speeches- someone who is not confident to do so- and his feedback is supportive but always honest.

As an introvert I hope this helps out others out there. He is very caring and understands people's fears, so he grades accordingly. The class is phenomenally structured for the students comfort. 4 total speeches, longest 4-6 minutes. Interesting topics for you to work around. Other than the speeches, 3 quizzes, 2 exams. Simple and understandable.

Tests are different from the lectures and are based on the online book. (Zero-textbook-course) and can be a bit more difficult. You will learn so much real-world speech advice from Mr. Smith. He has lots of experience in life and from his years of teaching. Best speech teacher you could pick.

Prof. Smith is great! His lectures are prerecorded so at anytime you can pause and write some notes. He gives outlines on how to write your speech which is super helpful for organization. Speeches have to be recorded in front of a crowd no smaller than 3 people or over a zoom conference call. Overall a really good class.!

I took the online class without realtime meetings, and I can imagine how great Professor Smith's in-person class can be.

Heavy usage of the textbook for nearly every assignment. Quiz and test answers were all found in the textbook. Class was structured well, 1 written discussion, 1 video discussion, 1 activity or essay, and 1 quiz every week.

A wonderful professor that taught me all there is to know about voice-over! The course is very informative - you learn a lot and even produce a rough demo at the end. Expect to participate in class discussions, take quizzes based on short readings, and receive feedback on takes. Overall, it's very fun - you won't regret having him as a professor!

Professor Smith is amazing! Highly recommend his SPCH117 class to anyone even remotely interested in Voiceover. This class is interesting and we learned quite a bit about the industry - we even created our own demo reel. Meet the criteria and do the work on time, you'll definitely pass. Professor Smith is a real GEM! I took Speech 100 online and it was 100% worth it. Lessons and assignments were easy and effective. He's super caring and understanding and makes it all worth while. This class really helped me overcome my fear of 'presenting' in front of people. All we did was submit a recording. GET THE BOOK! Everything is in there.

SPCH 100 is a MUST course with Professor Smith! Take him online and take him over the winter or summer. What you learn in his course about Interpersonal Communication can not only be applied in your personal life but career. Easy A as long as you complete his assignments on time. I have taken two of Professor Smith's classes and really enjoyed both of them (100 & 103). I highly recommend taking his classes. There is a lot of reading and participation definitely matters but he makes learning fun by the content that he provides. He also provides us with a free online textbook. This class was challenging for me but overall it was a nice class with a nice teacher.

He is a decent professor overall. He would take off points for the smallest reasons. He sometimes does not provide enough info on his rubrics His tests and discussions are super easy. Make sure to reply to your classmates during the discussion assignments. Always read his directions and learn from your mistakes you'll be fine. Xtra credit is offerd

Professor Smith's workload was highly manageable for the class taking place during the summer session. There are video and written discussions, and the prompts for those were straightforward. He always leaves a kind comment when he grades assignments and ensures that the assignments are clear.

First college class I have ever taken I am in high school. Gave examples to look back to. Takes off points if you turn something in late. READ THE DIRECTIONS AND THE GRADING TEMPLET I cannot say how many times I got points taken off for little things (picky). I did not read the textbook once and did just fine over the course of five weeks.

I took this class over the summer session and I would definitely recommend this class. The video discussions were very helpful and informative. I learned so many new communication skills in such a short amount of time. The professor grades very quickly and always leaves a kind helpful motivating comment on the work you turn in .

I LOVED THIS CLASS ! As a shy person, I was hesitant to take this class but I am so glad I did because I got out of my comfort zone. He gives nice motivational feedback in every assignment, grades very fairly too. He is an extremely understanding and kind professor. Assignments are manageable and fun, I 100 percent recommend you take this class.

He's actually pretty good, he gives good feedback to your work even if you think it was terrible he really makes you want to try and do better. He gives friendly reminders about when assignments are due too. Its just a TON of writing which sucks but it's cool seeing how you change as a person.

As someone who doesn't like to talk in front of people or make speeches, I found this class to be extremely helpful. I got out of my comfort zone and I'm glad that I did. The class was not hard and assignments were not bad. I really enjoyed this class and would recommend it! The quizzes are also very easy if you do the readings.

I honestly didn't do really well on the speeches but I still finished with a C. He gave a 30-point extra credit assignment which was really easy and really bumped up my grade. It's a really easy class with 3 speeches and the discussions are super easy. If you do the discussions and reply to two people you will at least get an 80%.

I had him online for the winter semester and I can say he is a nice guy and leaves kind feedback on all assignments. You will have to record a total of 4 speeches and have 3 audience members. If you are bad at speaking don't worry my speeches were bad but I was still able to pass. As long as you read the directions and do the work you will make it.

Professor Smith was amazing! I never had any difficulties other than finding people to have as audience members. Overall, the class was very simple and easy. The speeches were fun to do, and the quizzes were not difficult. I would recommend it!

Mr.Smith is a great teacher! He's very sweet and his feedback is helpful. You have to try if you want an F in his class. His homework isn't difficult, it's mostly reading followed by a short quiz about what you read, and you have to record yourself doing a speech about a topic of your choice. He's an amazing teacher, anybody would love to have !

if your looking for a easy going speech class, I definitely recommend Professor Smith. Small quizzes here and there but straightforward.
