He knows the class is boring (it is the same course as AP statistics if you took that in high school) so he tries to make it better by being funny and telling stories. you definitely have to study for this class but I usually just study a few hours the day before and I've never had a problem. There's weekly homework usually about 10 questions.
Nick is a good professor and doesn't take it too seriously. He knows you're in his class because you have to take it. Beware if you run into him at Ramsey he will cross you up and maybe even dunk on you.
Nick is one of the best professors I have had at UGA! Do the homework and practice tests and you will be golden
Nick is a pretty chill professor just get him to talk about sports. He is a little quirky but still he is a good teacher so take him if you can.
The course has 3 tests with an optional fourth test. The test are mainly what your grade comes from. Nick is a great guy, he really wants you to do well, but it appears he doesn't have much say in how the STAT department is run and structured. You have to do your HW on Webassign, and you should go to class for participation credit.
Toebben is a young guy and pretty interesting for a guy who does statistics. Never stepped foot in class except right before the test and got an A. He's there if you need him and helpful and caring, but if you don't need him then that's all good too.
Nick is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's so funny and keeps a very boring subject interesting. Tests are easy if you do the practice work on webassign. TAKE HIM!!
STATS department tells him how to teach so he doesn't have much say, but he did his best to make the class interesting Don't have to show up to class - I wish I put in more effort to get an A, but before the final I'm easily sitting at a B, close to a B+. He's basically a large college student teaching us and does his best to make the class fun.
He is a great professor. Hes young and cracks some funny jokes. He tries his best to prepare you for tests, but it can be tough since he isnt the person in charge of making the tests. I would highly recommend taking him, though.
Nick was a great lecturer, though a little scatter-brained, and really cared about his student's success. My advice is try to take this class as an upperclassmen when you've had more experience with college courses. As a senior I found this class to be an easy A but a lot of freshmen around me struggled and even dropped out.
Nick is a nice, funny guy. He's young and can relate to students. He's a good professor and is accessible outside of class and truly wants to make sure his students understand the material. The class itself, is a little hard, but that's not his fault. The tests were kind of annoying because they usually had just 9 questions. But an A is doable.
One of the best professors I've had at UGA! He cares about the success of his students and can often relate to us students since he is on the younger side as a professor. As long as you attend class (depending on how well you understand STAT), write down his notes, and do your HW, you will do great.
Nick is an awesome professor. His lectures are entertaining, but very informational. He is very knowledgeable and respectful to his students. His lectures cover everything you need for exams and homework. Overall one of the best professors I've had in all of school.
He is a great professor. He knows what he's talking about and makes it very interesting because he is hilarious! Would totally recommend him!
Nick is a great professor who wants the best to come out of you when studying Stat. Just note that the content itself is not difficulty, however, the tests are notoriously known for being fairly difficult if you are not thorough with the content.
Nick is the best stat 2000 teacher at uga right now. He cares and wants you to understand and ask questions. He keeps it real and isn't mean or short with you. Attendance isn't really mandatory but I would go. If you put in the effort you will do well.
Nick is a gem. I think he is probably one of the best stat prof of the bunch and is really funny and explains things super well. He is very receptive to the class and is rather lenient. The class is tough but that is just UGA Stat for you. I studied less due to how well he explained things. Pay attention, take good notes and you can pull a B.
I received in A in the course; you definitely need to work for it though. Need to attend class for the material - no textbook! The tests themselves are a good part conceptual, so study hard. Nick as an instructor though is amazing. He makes himself available and truly cares about the success of his students. Thanks for a wonderful semester Nick!
OKAY SO NICK IS THE BOMB. I WOULD TAKE HIS CLASS AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. THE CLASS ISN'T DIFFICULT AND HE MAKES IT EASY. ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU IN ANY WAY YOU NEED IT. ROOMIE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM 10 OUT OF 10.
This class in general is very easy. I rarely went and still got an A. Nick teaches the material well and tries to not make it too boring.
Nick is super cool, but the STAT department overall at UGA isn't great. He's young and tries very hard to make the class interesting and engaging. The class starts off deceptively easy in the first unit. The weekly homework isn't bad, but you might be shocked by your test grade. You can skip, but if you don't understand the material, don't.
LOVE NICK. He's funny and makes class interesting. He always explains things in a way that is easy to understand. Tests aren't too hard, just study! Homework is usually a little harder than tests honestly as far as material covered and what types of problems you have to work. Weekly homework. 3 mandatory tests, one optional. Lab is super easy.
Stat is not fun to take here, but Nick made it tolerable. Very funny guy, and made lectures engaging and bearable. Very good at answering emails and replying back, and seemed like a genuinely good guy. Would definitely recommend him or Gilbert if you have to take Stat. Second Stat test is impossible, so make sure to study up for one and three test
Cool dude. Not the easiest class. Tests could be hit or miss. But to be honest I expected it to be much more difficult. To sum it up, if you have to take Stats 2000 at UGA, try taking it with Nick.
Nick is a great young professor who gives entertaining lectures. He knows that the material can sometimes be a bit boring, but he explains it very well and makes it clear that he is there for help if anyone needs it.
This class is great because all notes for all teachers are shared online. If you like to and are able to learn math/stat online through yourself, then the teacher does not matter. Nick is good too because he doesn't make you come to class. A few tests and an optional final with weekly homework. Not hard at all.
Nick is a fantastic professor! He is hilarious and extremely understanding. He makes the class interesting with his witty jokes. For participation, I recommend buying the remote from someone who had the class previously. If you do not use the remote, they average your tests together as your participation. I tell everyone to take Nick; he's great!!
Mr Toebben is one of the best professor I have had at UGA so far. Statistics can be a time consuming class with moderate diffuculty but Mr. Toebben makes it very understandable and provides many opportunities to understand the content of the tests. There are 3 tests with an optional final.
Toebben is the GOAT. He is personable and he made statistics easy to understand. I did not take statistics in high school, and Toebben explains it to where it does not matter if I have a background in statistics or not. He even drops 2 quizzes and homework assignments, and the final is not mandatory.
Great professor, the class itself is boring but Nick tries to make it as interesting as possible. Take the online practice tests before the actual test. Showing up for class is not mandatory but it is very important to go because he provides examples that are exactly like the ones on the test.
Nick is clear in his lectures and answers to questions. He is easygoing and makes lecture fun at times. HE DROPS 2 LABS, 2 HW, 2 QUIZZES, so you have room to screw up. 3 tests, optional final. I HATE AND SUCK AT MATH, BUT THIS CLASS WAS VERY DOABLE. Go to lab, do the hw and you should be fine. TA LAB HOURS ARE USEFUL, DO GO IF YOU NEED EXTRA HELP.
Toebben is one of the best professors I have ever had. Although the material is boring, it is obvious that he does his best to keep students engaged and tries to explain it In the most interesting way possible. He really truly cares about his students and the subject. Would 100% recommend him to anyone, even if math is not your strong suit.
3 tests & 1 optional final throughout the semester. Webassign HW and quiz due randomly and not makeupable. Lectures are straight notes and sample problems. Top hat is optional. No need to show up if you have study buddies can send you notes. Statcrunch is highly recommended. Tests are easy as long as you understand HW questions (not just memorize!)
I couldn't recommend Professor Toebben more for STAT 2000. Class solely consists of note taking, and he is very clear in how he explains new material. He drops 2 quizzes, 2 labs, and 2 homeworks at the end of the semester, and it is very clear that he wants his students to do well in the class.
I never expected to actually enjoy STAT in college, let alone enjoy and make an A in it. Nick was awesome! Seriously, my high school stat teacher had nothing on him. I actually understood what was going on from the way he taught. Not to say the class was an easy A, I definitely worked my tail off but everything was doable. 10/10 recommend
Professor Toebben is a very straight forward professor when compared to a lot of the other ones I have had this semester. He utilizes examples which help A LOT on the homework and other assignments and clear some things up. He tries to be funny in the class and it is very entertaining especially when it is a 9 AM class!!
Nick is a great prof and teaches the material very clearly. He has office hours multiple days a week (& you should prob go before December lol). While it isn't an easy course, the grade you get is likely the grade you earned. Attendance isn't required but you should go. Do ALL the study guides for each test. Nick is awesome... highly recommend!
This class is the hardest thing I've ever taken only because it is a weed out class. Toebben is the best of the other professors, but this is a very hard course. I took it my freshman fall semester, and it was my priority class. If you have not taken this before in high school, study hard. Go to office hours!! it helps.
NICK TOEBBEN IS THE BEST PROF AT UGA. If you have to take STAT, TAKE HIM!! He has open office hours all the time and if you go he HELPS YOU so much !! He makes an EFFORT to help his students. IF you are struggling, GO TO OFFICE HOURS.
He is the literal best. He is so funny, and he actually cares that you learn the material. He drops 2 quizzes, 2 homeworks, and 2 labs. I made a 96 in the class by just going to class. I never had to go to office hours or anything, but he is always available if you are struggling. He is the best. That is all.
Nick is hilarious and tries his best to make the material as interesting as possible. Going to class is definitely important even though it's not mandatory, plus he always throws in some good jokes every class. I didn't think any of the homework, quizzes or tests were too hard and he is always willing to help.
Nick Toebben is the BEST professor I've had so far at UGA. He's hilarious and makes the material relatable. He explains everything so well and always makes class entertaining with his jokes. He's one of the few professors who genuinely cares about his students. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Such an awesome professor. Always willing to answer questions. He's funny and makes lectures as entertaining as stat lectures can get. And he's nice to look at
It's math. He does his best to make lecture engaging, relatable, and understandable, but you're going to have to set a considerable amount of time aside for homework and online quizzes, unless you're some kind of math whiz. The final is optional and can only help, not hurt, which is nice. Just don't skip lab -- it'll sting come finals.
Is considered one of the best stat professors at UGA but he still sucks. Honestly, you're better taking this course either online or at an entirely different school.
He for sure knows what he's talking about, but his teaching style wasn't for me. The other stat professor has practice problems for each test and I didn't know that until late in the semester.
Nick gives handwritten notes that are based on the notes he posts online, so you don't have to come to class. If you go to class and pay attention, you don't have to do much studying outside. He drops 2 homeworks and quizzes and gives extra points on your exams if you do the timed practice tests. It's a pretty easy A if you put in a little effort.
He makes this class as easy as possible. He's super accessible outside of class because he wants everyone to pass and wants to make sure he can answer all our questions. Attendance isn't mandatory and he posts all notes online, but his lectures make everything much clearer. I hated stats in high school but loved this class
Professor Toebben is one of the best professors I've had a UGA. He is an extremely understanding and funny guy, and everyone should take him for stat. I was able to get an A even after not showing up to class for over a month.
He is supposedly one of the best STAT professors at UGA, but I would disagree. He posts his notes online and then copies them in class as part of the lecture. I would suggest taking stat at another school and just steer clear of stat at uga.
Professor Toebben was a good STAT teacher. He makes great notes that he post on eLc and he tries to make the lectures interesting. Statistics is a difficult class in general, but he explains things well and is always available to help. The quizzes and test are the hardest part of this class. If you want an A, be prepared to study a lot!
He's a decent professor. Most mornings he would show up a few minutes late and then go on a little rant. He knows what he is doing and willing to help. I am not all that great at numbers and formulas, so I am not disappointed with my grade. He is very laid back, so if you understand stat, I would take him.
Professor Toebben makes understanding statistics so much easier, he explains complex concepts that are difficult to understand on your own. I would suggest attending every lecture as it will help with both homework and quizzes. However, if you took AP Stat in high school this class should be an easy A for you.
Professor Toebben is so helpful and great. He makes the class as interesting as he can (considering its statistics) and is the most willing professor I've ever had to stay in office hours to answer questions and get back to emails. Beware of the TEST 2, don't underestimate this class but a decent grade is attainable.
Good all around. This class is full-proof. I recommend going to his lectures, he's a funny guy.
As someone who did well in Calculus, I struggled in this class. The labs saved my grade, but were not helpful. The class was too test heavy and they were all online so imagine doing statistics online!!! Toebben was rude about people being sick in his class and was always a lesson behind in the schedule. Not a fan....
Class is organized very well and is not hard at all if you stay on top of your stuff. Many people I know including myself were able to get extremely high As.
Nick is a great professor and wants students to do well in his class. I think he is a very understanding person whos approachable for help in and out of the classroom. However, if you need to take this class as a requirement its in your best interest to buckle down and get GOOD practice with concepts.
Nick is very laid back and I absolutely love his personality. He explains things very thouroughly and is always available outside of class. I have learned a lot from him and he drops your 2 lowest quizzes, labs, and homeworks. He is extremely smart and an amazing instructor. I genuenly look forward to his classes.
Nick is very friendly and helpful to all students and I 10/10 recommend him for this class. The class however is fairly difficult and I would not take it unless necessary. There are online quizzes nearly every week which are fairly difficult, but tests only account for 60% of the grade, so you can make up for bad test grades with other grades.
Nick really cares about his students and genuinely wants us to do well. His lectures break down difficult material in a way thats easy to understand. Go to class and labs, put in effort on homework/quizzes, and ask questions if youre struggling on anything.
Not much to say. He's one of the best statistics teachers around. Really lecture heavy but it's easy to follow. He encourages questions and is willing to work through hard homework problems in class if you ask. He's also really funny so lectures dont drag on everyday. Show up, do your work, and you'll walk out with an easy A.
I took stat in high school and dreaded going to class as i struggles and it was boring for me. Toebbans class could not be more different. I look forward to each class and he makes learning the material easy. Go to class and take notes and you will get an A.
I switched my major to Statistics after taking Toebben! He gives points back on tests if he sees a lot of students struggled with a question. Make sure you attend the lab, do the weekly homework and quiz. Formula sheets allowed for regular tests. Funny guy and makes statistics interesting!
Professor Toebben is overall a really nice and funny guy and I like him as a person. However, I didn't think the tests matched up with problems we did on homework and practices and they were extremely hard. He also teaches very fast.
Stat is hard, but I definitely recommend Nick. He makes everything the best that he can until it's out of his control. He is also really funny, so that helps with the lectures. The class itself is difficult, but you do get to use a formula sheet on all three tests, and there is an optional final that only counts if it helps your grade.
Stat might just be the hardest class Ive ever taken at UGA, and the timing certainly didnt help to make things easier. Toebben was very accessible throughout this whole online school thing, and was always willing to answer any questions we had. 3 tests, optional 4th if it helps with your grade. Funny guy and caring, too. Attendance not mandatory
Nick is a really great professor and tries to make a stat class as interesting as possible! The tests are very tricky though. The final exam is optional and can only help your grade! There is mandatory lab once a week which is easy to get a 100 in.
Great professor for statistics. His lectures are helpful and easy to understand. He is also very flexible with office hours to ensure you get the help you need. Homework and Quizzes are due every week, but they are not extremely difficult.
Professor Toebben is awesome. His lectures cover everything that are on the tests and he explains the material well for people taking STAT for the first time. The weekly homework assignments can be tricky but two (sometimes three) get dropped. The final is optional and can only help you. Would recommend Toebben if you have never taken STAT before.
Nick was a fantastic teacher. He was funny, but most importantly his lectures were great! They were informative and cover everything you need to know. He provides lots of material to get ready for exams. I wish all my teachers were like him!
Best professor you can get if you're just starting stat! He explains everything very clearly and concisely. He's a very funny guy and is clear about what you need to do to get an A. His homework and quizzes are very useful to prepare for tests. He was also very accommodating for COVID-19 and that made the online transition much easier.
His lectures were as entertaining as stat could be and he clearly taught around what the assignments graded on. Going to the lectures and taking notes were enough to exceed in the material. Toebben is understanding and made taking this course both a joy and a breeze.
Nick is a nice guy and uses good examples but stat is just hard for many. I used the Skoolers reviews for the test and formula sheet. Those were a life saver. I ended up having to take the final, which sucked, but it was not that difficult and bumped up my grade.
Nick is a really good professor and good person overall. His classwork was EXTREMELY easy (mostly because I had taken a Stats in HS). Others struggled very but Nick was really helpful. Awesome lectures and very thorough explanations. If you need to take stats, sign up for Toebben, and youll bet set!
Can't say enough about him. Great guy, truly cares about his students. He literally is over 1000+ students and can arrange 1-on-1 time. STAT isn't the easiest thing is the world but for his class, just got to put a decent effort in and it'll pay off. Test can be a little hard but again, he gives enough practice+other grades, it doesn't matter.
As long as you do the homework and notes you should be fine. Stat isn't easy for me but I was able to make decently good grades and Toebben is hilarious in his example videos and his example problems. The things he posts on ELC are really helpful if you use them.
Super nice guy. I would recommend him. The group projects suck and don't forget its still statistics so its not fun. However, he makes it as easy as STAT can get. Good Luck!
Hes a super nice guy! Homework is due every friday unless u have a quiz that week then no homework. Only 4 test and 3 projects. I suck at math though and struggled in this class and he rarely does extra credit sadly. Overall he isnt too bad and I would take him again, i just suck at math so this course was hard for me
I DO NOT RECOMEND HIM FOR ONLNE CLASS. I had Toebben for online this semester due to covid. He made the homework super easy, but test and quizzes nearly impossible. I feel as if he made this course harder for online than in the past for in person. Every one that I have talked to is failing, and he offers NO extra credit. Avoid at all cost.
Nick is a nice guy but his class is difficult. I'm doing pretty decent but I know a lot of people who are struggling or failing in his class. You need to make sure you read & watch the lecture videos but you don't really need to attend class. Tests are harder than quizzes and homework. He also didn't give me an extension when I had Corona.
He is a good professor and a good guy, but the tests and quizzes are way too hard. This was one of my hardest classes this year, and the online format made is that much harder. If you could get another class to satisfy the requirement, I would do that.
Toebben was a great instructor for this course. The schedule of assignments was very easy to follow and not overwhelming. Only one homework assignment for every two weeks, and tests and quizzes weren't too bad. Toebben was very good at explaining the material, and a fun guy to have as a professor.
He seems nice however the tests were way too hard especially considering how we couldnt come to class in person every day and it was mostly online. We had homework for practice however the quizzes and tests were way harder than it.
coming from a person that is decent at math, his class was hard asf. Content wise, he kinda wasnt accommodating for Covid and the tests were so much different than hw and quizzes. Wouldnt recommend taking him.
I took this class during the pandemic and had never had a stats class in my life, but Professor Toebben explained every concept well and was very gracious by curving assignments every now and then. Quizzes and tests don't have a lot of questions, so make sure you know how to apply concepts. Overall 10/10 would recommend!
This class is the luck of the draw honestly. When you sign up for this class you can either get Nick or one of 10 TAs. HW doesn't reflect quizzes or tests.
Class was unreasonably tough, which may have been because of Covid-19. First 2 units are very easy and leave you with false sense of security, 2nd half of class is EXTREMELY hard and the notes just aren't adequate. Quizzes and practice tests very different from tests, which are much harder. This is just so much harder than an intro class should be.
I read these reviews before registering and was honestly excited to take the class. It wasn't as good as I thought. It might have just been because it was online. I had friends who took this class in person and they literally apologized when I told them how bad it was online. Maybe with a different professor, but don't take this online with Toebben
I had Toebben for this semester online, and I actually enjoyed his class. Stat isn't supposed to be a super easy class, but Toebben spent a lot of time on his lecture videos and practice questions to help students better understand the content. He is really nice, and easy to reach out to outside of class too.
I took this class during COVID and read the reviews before taking it and honestly this class was terrible. It was completely online and extremely difficult. I 12/10 do not recommend taking unless you feel extremely confident about teaching yourself stat. Even people from other colleges said this stat was harder than theirs and abnormally hard. BAD!
I took calculus in high school and thought this class was pretty hard. The first two units are a lot easier than the rest, but there are a lot of practice and explanation videos available. Toebben was a good professor and even answered people's specific questions on GroupMe sometimes, but I wouldn't take this class online if you can avoid it.
This could be unique to the pandemic, but my experience with Nick as a professor was overwhelmingly negative. Nick never curved the tests to make the average an 80, and kept us in the dark on grade distributions. When asked for extra-credit options to make up for falling test scores he responded "sorry amigo." Nick is no amigo of mine.
Dr. Toebben was a good professor for Statistics. Due to COVID-19, he made the class online and gave us very few homework to do. I got B in Stats, but I wouldnt blame Dr. Toebben. Stats was just never my thing. But he is so nice and cares about his students. He is willing to work with you to make sure you pass. His lectures were helpful. Take him.
first day of class he told us to call him nick. he was a good prof but tbh I got through this class during covid solely because I enjoyed math. If I didn't like math so much I prob wouldn't have done so well because some of the concepts and homework took me a few hours a week to understand and learn. The notes he gives helped me a ton
Toebben is fine. Nothing special about the class. From what I've heard none of the STAT 2000 professors are great :( The tests are somewhat difficult and you don't have much time for them, but if you actually put forth effort it's not so bad (plus he curves them). BEWARE OF GROUP PROJECTS! Good luck getting him to respond to your emails.
Toebben is really down to earth and funny. He always has his cats with him during Zoom lectures and references memes. As for the actual class, I didn't think it was formatted in the best way, and I often felt like I was teaching myself. I got by purely based on skill in stat, but if math isn't your thing assessments could be killer.
The class itself is pretty difficult. However, Nick was a very good teacher considering I took this class during a fully online semester. He is super nice and very accommodating. I really recommend doing all the homework and lots of practice before a test or quiz though. It is the slight changes in wording that always trick everyone.
I took this class during covid and everything was online. We had zoom lectures, but I never went. He posted notes, which I used when completing homework. Everything was open-note and not proctored. Never went to class or watched lecture videos and I still got an A with no previous stat knowledge. Know how to use google well and you'll pass.
This class is pretty cut and dry. Nick is funny and will always help out if you need it. The only con I have is that you can miss 2-3 parts of a test question and that's usually a high B already. Tests are 50% and more difficult than homework. Still, it's doable, relatively easy, and if you need help Nick is accessible.
Never went to a single zoom but heard he's really helpful if u have questions and works w/ u to figure it out. There're very few practice problems but if u look at what u did wrong on assignments before each test u should be fine. U can get B's on every test and still get an A in the class as long as u get an A avg on HW, quizzes, & labs
Stat was enjoyable because Nick taught it. He really makes sure that everyone is receiving content they need to be successful and really makes sure that help is accessible if needed. He is SUPER nice, and a great professor. Take him if you can!
Professor Toebben was INCREDIBLE. His lectures are presented so clearly and his videos were very helpful. Hes also pretty funny so it wasnt boring to watch. Stat was enjoyable because of him
I made a D but I take full responsibility, 100% not his fault. I know a lot of people easily made an A, I just hate math. He was in our groupme and would always send pictures of his cat/respond to questions quickly. Attendance was not mandatory so if you're not good at keeping up yourself, such as I, maybe choose someone else. Super funny and nice.
Toebben would be a good professor if you are taking the class in person but online it is so hard. Information is never presented clearly and you will be constantly confused on what is going on. If you have him in person and study a ton you might do okay.
I made a B, but that's 100% on me. (tests are 50% of grade). Attendance was not mandatory and I feel like if I went in person then I would have done better. The class structure is pretty clear and the lecture videos were pretty concise. He responds to emails really quickly and seems like a funny guy. Bonus points for cat appearances in the videos.
His lecture notes, videos, and practice problems were all helpful for learning. There is a very reasonable workload. Quizzes and tests were difficult, so you definitely need to study a good bit to do well on them. He is kind, caring, and he is willing to give credit back sometimes if you can explain yourself and your thought process well.
I hate math and have hated math with the burning, fiery fury of ten billion suns for as long as I can remember, but somehow Nick still made it bearable. He's a funny, relatable guy - not in the live, laugh, love way, but in a genuine, cares about your success and mental health way. Nick, if you see this, I hope you're doing well! <3
Toebben is an excellent professor. This course was online, so the lectures were videos, but they were extremely thorough and brief. He was also very helpful via email if you had any questions. Quizzes and tests are somewhat difficult and I was often pressed for time, but if you study and take good notes, you're fine.
Hes hilarious and chill, but also doesnt screw around and focuses on his lecture and content foremost. He loves to crack jokes throughout the lecture
Nick Toebben is super funny and will (sometimes) make class entertaining. The class does have a lot of HW, quizzes, and tests, but they're online and open note so not too bad. Just make sure you take good notes and study and you'll be fine. He's wicked smart, and you can tell he enjoys teaching what he knows. Good, solid stat class.
All of the lectures are posted online and explained thoroughly, but attending in person will probably give you a better understanding of the material along with some solid entertainment. Toebben is very personable and probably makes me laugh at least once every class. Homework and quizzes do not reflect the difficulty of the tests.
I can't recommend Nick enough! His lectures are super informative and he's willing to help you out if you don't understand something. There's no required textbook, but you do have to pay for a website that's not too expensive to take your tests on. The content can be a bit challenging sometimes, but if you do your homework you'll be good.
Nick is the best professor I ever I had. He is amazing. If every math teacher is like him in my life, I wouldn't hate math so much.
I got an A- in Calculus 1 and somehow this class was tougher. The HW and Labs are easy but when it comes to the quizzes and tests I only passed 3. I don't understand how we're supposed to pass when he gives us very hard questions on the tests /quizzes that we never see on the practice tests. He is setting us up for failure.
Super chill prof. Lectures were always funny and engaging. The material itself is relatively difficult but Nick does his best. Major points for the cat pics in the groupme. Would absolutely take again.
This man is a legend. Statistics is incredibly difficult but Nick makes it so much easier. Funny, willing to listen, good teacher. 1000/10
Hes super funny but does teach at a pretty fast pace compared to others. Make sure to take good notes, tests, quizzes, and HW are all online and done outside of class so they are open note. Good professor
I have taken a stats class before so this class wasn't very difficult for me. I LOVED how he taught in the lectures; he allows time for questions, takes notes with the class, and it was all quite easy to understand. All assignments are online, which I liked. Overall you can tell he cares about his students and their understanding of the content.
Nick is an awesome professor and genuinely cares about his students. Statistics is a hard class, but he makes it understandable and fun. He is very smart and you can tell he knows what he is talking about. I wish all my professors were like Nick
His lecture style was really helpful personally because he would write out notes and clear definitions/explanations and then provide an example that made the concept understandable. The tests are somewhat difficult but it was open note so that helped A LOT. He also was very outgoing and funny at times.
My first ever B- and its for statistics. He is good at explaining things but in the end it doesnt matter because his tests and quizzes are completely different from the practice problems he gives us. Good luck getting a good grade in the class without Chegg.
Quizzes and tests can be tricky but show up to class and utilize the extra help on eLC
I thought Nick was a weird guy, but a lot of people liked him because of his casual relationship with his students and informal lectures that would sometimes go off topic (in wrong directions). You need to study for his tests, and I recommend getting with a study group to do homework. Use grade calc in ELC and go to TA office hours - good luck.
This class is by far the hardest class I have taken. With that being said, the professor was no help in making it any easier. The tests were nothing like homework or quizzes. I would feel prepared and do poorly on the test. DO NOT recommend this class.
Super test heavy... Tests are 50% of your grade and they are not curved. He does not bump or round up and most of everything is your raw score so mistakes damage a lot. I didn't expect this INTRODUCTION to stat to be so hard. It felt like the tests were meant to trick you. Study hard
Nick is a solid choice for stat. Statistics is hard but he makes it doable. The tests/quizzes were not easy but your homework and labs help average things out. I enjoyed going to class and would recommend going if you can.
Never showed up to class and got a B. Honestly Nick is a cool dude and a good professor and if i just exerted even a little more effort, it would've been an easy A. Assignments are spread apart, but the class is very test heavy. He never gives extra credit. Definitely recommend and if you exert even minimal effort, the class is very doable.
I was nervous about taking statistics because math isn't my strong suit, but Nick made it manageable. Lots of people are talking about how the homework/quizzes are different to the test. Go to class, take good notes, and do the practice problems. Nick does several examples that mirror the tests.
Nick is super chill on everything except extra credit. No rounding, no curves, no extra credit offered ever. Study and you should do fine. Tests are worth 50% of the grade. No final (last test is labeled "final" but its just the last two modules.) Points for cat pics in the groupme.
Nick was a good professor BUT it was annoying that he would not prepare us at all for the actual tests. The tests were literally 50% of our grades, but his easy practice problems and hws set us up for failure. He is a super chill professor and cancels class if many people request it, but this was the hardest class I have taken in my life.
Nick is a good professor and really chill. It is extremely test heavy and the homework problems are nothing like the test. You have to make sure you study and know the material to do well. He does not curve or offer extra credit. If you aren't a math person the class will be hard but it is doable if you put in the extra effort.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. IF U WANT A PROFESSOR THAT DOESNT RESPOND TO EMAILS AND IS VERY INCONSIDERATE THAN TAKE HIM!! Hes horrible. horrible horrible horrible. take this class with someone else.
He slick is not understanding at all for peoples personal situations. Did your dad die? Sorry but you would still receive no grace. Most of the professors here arent so heartless towards grading but this man takes it too serious. 79.99 in the class? Thats a C for you and he will ignore any email of you begging for that 0.01 point.
good prof and very funny and young enough to actually get along with students
great dude, super understanding about things. def recommend!
He's a good guy and funny. Wanted to like him but his hard tests made that difficult. The homework and quiz questions are pretty easy and then you get to the tests (which are online and open note) and the questions are a lot harder and you have to really understand all the content in order to do well. Need to spend time understanding the content!!
He is a good professor and nice, but his you're basically set up for failure with his tests. The practice problems and homework and much easier than the actual test itself. There is also no extra credit, curves, etc. offered and tests are 50% of your grade, so you REALLY have to try. The tests are open book and note, but it still did not help.
The course itself is about understanding the concepts, not just memorizing how to calculate a problem. With this, I struggled a lot in the beginning. However, Toebben was always available in-office hours and would explain every question I had. It also helps to practice problems on eLC & talk to tutors. His lectures were also engaging and funny.
I dreaded this class but I still worked and studied hard. His lectures are explained as if you're already familiar with STAT, which I was not. Get ready to study for long hours and do a lot of extra work to get a passing grade if math isn't your strong suit. Make sure to get tutoring if you find it hard in the first week.
The tests were way harder than the homework and practice exams. He was more worried about being likable and funny than actually teaching us the material. The mandatory labs were also stressful since the TA didnt speak english and no one would help us out. I wish I could give him a zero because his jokes werent even funny.
His lectures are engaging and helpful, but if you miss class the material is accessible online. Go to class because he gives lots of example problems. Your grade is comprised of homework, quizzes, and tests. If you take the course with the lab it will boost your grade. He also drops a couple of things. The tests/quizzes were online and open notes.
I looked forward to going to his class because it was never boring. He threw in jokes here and there which made it enjoyable and class seemed to fly by. He was always helpful if you had questions and helpful during his office hours. He was very easy to talk to. His tests and quizzes were very hard and way harder than the homework.
Honestly, if you go to class and take notes, then this class should be a breeze. The tests/quizzes can be tricky, but all of them are open note and covered in all in-person lectures. He drops a ton of assignments at the end of the semester too!
Nick is amazing. He has recorded videos from covid that are posted, but his lectures in person are MUCH better. He throws in jokes during lectures and makes you WANT to go to class. Nick understands what it is like to be a student and he wants to relate to us. He drops many assignments at the end of the semester. Show up, take notes, & you'll pass.
Very entertaining lectures for such boring topics. Lectures are both online and in-person, there's no attendance He's very thorough in his lectures and informative with enough cushion-grades (labs and HW) so that even if you don't perform well on a few quizzes you can still get a good grade. It can be difficult to communicate with him or the TA's.
While most people in this intro course that I knew were struggling, Nick did his best to make the material as bearable as possible. He does his best to make the lectures interesting and engaging. Everyone that I knew with the other professor got significantly lower grades on the tests and quizzes. They ended up having to access Nick's online videos
Professor Toebben is the best; he's super funny and he cares about his students. I would argue that he's absolutely the best professor to take STAT 2000 with because he explains things very well. However, if you don't have a background in AP Stats or AP calc or some higher level math (like me), this class will prove to be very difficult for you.
Professor Toebben is such a funny man and his lectures are truly a pleasure. He loves to joke with his students and he has fun ways of applying his content to real life so that you can learn it well.
horrible class. for people who struggle with math, DO NOT take this class. Toebben doesnt even teach the lectures. the TA didnt speak english as a first language and he could explain anything at all. homework and tests are completely different. Toebbens online videos were confusing and didnt help at all. how does uga expect us to learn??
Funny and likable person personality-wise. However, be prepared for trick questions on quizzes and tests. And by trick questions I mean yes, the questions will be intentionally designed to confuse and mislead students. My o-chem grade was higher than my grade for this intro stat class.
The homework, labs, and practice tests were extremely easy, so you'd think that the tests wouldn't be as challenging as they were. Every test was designed to drop your grade, since he used questions that would confuse students. For multiple questions on the test, I had not seen questions formatted this way on anything other than the exam.
Toebben was funny, but his tests were always significantly harder than his homework. However, they're taken outside of class without Respondus.
Professor Toebben was amazing. He cares so much for his students and if you GO TO EVERY CLASS or as many as you can, you will assuredly make an "A". He is the best, seriously.
This class was very unnecessarily hard. Toebben is a good professor, but going to class wasn't needed because he posts everything to elc anyway. The quizzes and tests are so hard no matter what you do to prepare, it's hard to succeed in stat.
Such an amazing and chill teacher! His notes are posted online so you don't have to go to class, but it does help if you attend. He makes sure to explain things in depth if you don't understand and there is homework once a week. Would highly recommend.
Super nice guy, very helpful and would always listen to concerned voiced in the group me. For a statistics class so big, he really kept up with everyone the best he could.
average. posted video lectures are much more useful than in person lectures. ridiculously hard tests.
This class requires a little more work if you're not good with math/numbers, but because of how grading works you can still pass the class even if you get a horrible grade on an exam or two. Just make sure you attend labs and do homework for a bit of cushion. If you're confused GET HELP! It builds off itself so make sure you have a good foundation!
Take him if you can, as getting an A was so feasible. If you attend class and take good notes, you will be golden. Quizzes and tests can be tricky, but watching the online lectures for extra examples is great to study off of for tests/quizzes. Plus, your highest test grade will be averaged with your lowest! Great prof and made stats fun.
Do not take this professor if you can't teach yourself. I thought this class would be ok based on his reviews but it's the opposite. Quiz and Tests are timed, and tests are 50% of your grade. TA's are nice but bad instructors and unhelpful. Too many times where the majority of the class failed exams. the GroupMe is just people being mean/annoying.
Toebben is a great professor. He teaches the subject well, and gives you plenty of examples so you can actually learn how to do the math. Always willing to help students, and also he's a funny guy
I recommend Prof. Toebben. My advice is to attend class, take notes, and 100% review the notes/videos/practice provided online. If you do all of these things you should be fine. Toebben is also receptive to feedback which is a good thing to have in a professor. The quizzes and tests can be stressful (time limit, rigor) but that is to be expected.
I'm sure the professor is nice however, the classes taught by his TA's are mostly confusing and unhelpful. For the first half of the semester the TA would just read off of the notes already available online which did not help us learn. Went to class all the time but still would be confused. If you have no experience in stats do not take this class.
This class can become very difficult if you do not have any experience in STATS. You learn from the lectures and the videos he posts on eLC. Tests and quizzes are difficult because of the limited time. The TA's are not great and can be confusing if you ask them questions.
Toebben is a funny guy and makes entertaining lectures but beyond that the class is exceedingly difficult. The tests go over stuff that I felt like was never covered in lecture or the homework, same with the quizzes. Plus, the time constraints set on both felt way too little. Multiple times I finished a test with less than a minute to spare.
I took STAT 2000 in Spring 2021 when the course was online. Toebben was a fine professor throughout the semester, even posting lecture videos to supplement material for exams, he was very passive aggressive with me over email. I did fine in the course, I just feel it's inappropriate to treat student inquiring about their grades with disrespect.
I definitely recommend Toebben for stat. His lectures are very engaging and he loves to tell funny stories throughout his classes. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I definitely recommend going to class if you want to understand what to do and get good grades. The tests are a lot harder than the quizzes and homeworks though so be prepared for that.
Toebben is an awesome professor. He's really chill with his students and office hours are very helpful. As long as you attend lectures, you should do fine in the class. Tests and quizzes are very similar to the homework and are open note. Enjoyable class.
He is very chill and a nice guy, and he clearly knows what he's doing. He handwrites all of his notes and projects them onto the screen during class. The tests are way more difficult than the homework and quizzes. If you fail one, an A/A- is highly unlikely. He does NOT round grades, an 89.99% is a B+. Be sure to pay attention to in-class problems.
Toebben writes the stat 2000 tests & quizzes that every stat 2000 student takes, so if you have to take this class definitely take him. I enjoyed this class & did well but ONLY bc i attended relatively every class. To do well, you need to go to class for sure. He makes his class fun bc of funny stories he tells & hes accessible outside of class.
This was a surprisingly hard class. I felt as if the tests did not cover what was taught in class. I went to almost every class and still struggled. The only thing helping was TA office hours. Toebben was funny but got off-topic so many times. Overall this is a difficult class, but Toebben is the best option of the teachers.
Toebben was a great professor, that made learning fun and easy. I struggled with a lot of mental health stuff, so it was nice that he provided all necessary materials online for review (including ample practice).
Nick was great. He's a really funny guy. The class is not hard at all if you go to class. The tests are online outside of class and he allows you to use your notes. You have a lab some weeks and it really helps you practice the material. The homework can be a bit time-consuming, but it is pretty similar to the tests. Overall, it's a great class.
I loved Toebben! I know attendance is optional but COME TO CLASS - his lectures are interesting and the best way to learn the content compared to reading the online notes because he does example problems in class and goes over them step by step. He's very accommodating and his lectures manage to be both fun and informative. 10/10 would take again.
Nick Toebben is a pretty good person and professor at UGA. He is not difficult however, the content of his class that I was in was. Also, tests made up 50% of your grade and, its math so you have to practice a lot and do homework often. He was very helpful though as a teacher and explained everything to a T that I did not understand. Take his stat!
He's really funny and made lectures seem enjoyable. His lecture layout is to usually go through a couple practice problems. One issue I have is that the homework and practice tests were never similar to what was on the test. The tests always seemed harder than both, although they were doable. He's the best option for STAT2000.
He is the best professor to take if you need to take this class because he is the department head(so he writes the tests) but the tests are wayyyy harder than the homework and quizzes.
Dr. Toebben is awesome. He is really funny and keeps lecture fresh and fun. He writes his own tests and the wording on the tests can get confusing so make sure to know the material through and through. He goes through plenty of examples in class so take advantage of that. Overall he is a chill dude and in my opinion the best stat professor to take
Toebben is a great professor. He runs the STAT department so if youre taking stat TAKE HIS CLASS. He is engaging and funny during class, but hes also very descriptive while teaching and is open to helping everyone. Tests and Quizzes were a little hard (question were made to trick you). But homeworks and labs even the grade out. Great teacher!
He is an amazing professor! Im not a math person but I really understood Statistics with him teaching. He is understanding, nice, and funny. I definitely recommend taking him!
He is super nice and I enjoyed his class. He writes all of the exams, so I feel he's the best for the course. I thought the class was easy, but some people struggled. It is mostly common sense/ critical thinking. All of the assignments are take home/ online. He has even told the class that the exams and quizzes are open note, just no collaboration.
Go to class and pay attention. Otherwise, you won't do well. The tests are very tricky on purpose--he makes problems with concepts that he knows people forget about.
His videos help you look over the course content. BONUS: His cats will bother him the entire video and it is hilarious and cute at the same time.
He writes notes while teaching. Notes and videos are on ELC, and helpful in understanding the material. Tests (50% of grade) can be hard bc they are usually only 10 questions and and it is easy to miss stuff. The lowest test is averaged with the highest test, which helps. Labs are only 30-40 minutes and graded based on an easy quiz (5 questions).
-Do the practice tests -Great teacher -Exams and quizzes are interpretation heavy so make sure you fully understand what the questions are asking you -I thought labs were fun but the TA talked way too fast
I highly recommend taking Toebben for STAT 2000. Quizzes and Tests are on WebAssign and can be pretty challenging, but if you go to class and take notes you will be fine. His lectures are very engaging, which make going to class enjoyable anyway. He is really funny, intelligent, great at explaining things and is always available for office hours.
I liked Nick, but I didn't much like the class as I hate math, but he was a really good teacher. We did HW, quizzes, tests, and lab quizzes all on Cengage. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want a half decent grade I would go. He is really funny and gives good examples for the notes. I just didn't like stat but I would recommend him.
Nick provided a lot of resources to help you study outside of lectures that were really helpful. The quizzes, homework, and labs were not bad if you attend class and review the content before. The tests tended to be more confusing, but still kind of manageable.
So easy and highly recommend Toebben! Easy to talk to, very engaging lectures, and all assignments/tests/quizzes are open note, online, and taken outside of class without proctoring!
If you take STAT 2000 at UGA, make sure to take Toebben's lecture class. He writes all the tests and quizzes and the language he uses in class is normally how he will write it on the assignments. The tests are super hard and confusing so make sure to go to the lectures and watch all the online videos he makes, they completely saved me
I don't really have anything negative to say besides one trick question he put on a test. He is a great teacher, interesting lectures, cares about students, funny, clear outline for course, and accessible materials. Copying the notes exactly how he writes them on his paper is a huge help as the homework, quizzes and tests are all open note.
this class is pretty easy if you keep up with the notes. I never attended classes (aside from lab) but made sure I read over the lecture notes before quizzes and tests. all assignments including tests don't have very many questions so it's easy to get a low grade, but the homework and lab assignments will help balance it out. there's no final
Nick was a really great professor. The only thing I'd say as a "negative" thing was his tests don't really correlate to what we talked about in class. I got the textbook that wasn't required and it definitely benefitted my grade. He's a funny guy and is really interested in teaching and is a good professor.
Nick is a funny guy but the tests were always way harder than the examples we did in class or on the homework. Tests and quizzes are open notes but time limit makes them really stressful plus not that many questions so its easy to get a bad grade. Does a good job answering questions and helping you understanding confusing topics if you ask.
Professor Toebben was good but the tests that we took online were always harder than the examples in class and the homework assignment and same with the quizzes. He is really funny, and you need to attend class to know what is going on, but it is not mandatory.
He is very good at explaining things and was very encouraging toward asking questions, he genuinely wanted to help! Tests and quizzes are open note and I felt they were a fair difficulty, especially given the practice tests were very similar to the real. Final exam is not cumulative which is appreciated. Super nice and funny, definitely take him!
Toebben is super chill. He explains the content really well. Def reccomend him!
He is an alright professor. You are graded by very few things and tests/quizzes have only a few questions so if you miss only like 2-3 questions, you can get a B or C. There was also little time to complete them.
He provides great examples for the work and takes notes in real time. Good professor good guy. He also mentions that his students tend to perform the best on the tests so probably your best bet.
Will get frustrated easily or will unexpectedly become rude, do not take this class if you are attempting to learn asynchronously, online resources are not very helpful if at all.
Professor is good at teaching but he makes the quiz and tests a lot harder than the HW and Labs. Quizzes are also a lot harder than the test. Both have TRICKY wording that even messes tutors up so read carefully. 25 min for quiz and hour for tests. If you try, you will absoultely pass this class, might just not be with an A.
This was a lecture-based class. It was sorta boring, but Nick went at a good pace to make sure everyone understood before moving on to the next thing. He answers emails really fast and is very flexible.
I hate statistics, but this class was surprisingly not too bad. The homework is easy, but the tests and quizzes can go either way. Attendance is optional, but the lectures are helpful. If you can do the homework without help you should be fine on the tests and quizzes.
Stat 2000 is just going to be hard for a lot of people no matter what so take Nick. Funny guy who creates a laid back class environment, plus he's the one who writes all the tests for the stat department. Study with the practice problems he posts on elc- they really help with the tests.
I just started taking this course online and already HATE it. I'm and english and journalism major and this is the only math I have to take here. Tests and quizzes are nothing like the HWs and Labs. The TA responds to emails but gives useless advice. Would not recommend for anyone who is not great at math...
This class is so frustrating. A majority of the people in this class are non-math majors and this course is designed for a math major. Beyond that, the practices, hws, and labs are NOTHING like the quizzes and tests. Sadly, Toebben writes all the stuff for the stat department. Terrible, would not recommend.
im taking his online class this summer and it sucks. his lecture videos are straight forward but none of the quizzes or tests are like the practice problems. i think other ppl have said that too. he also seems arrogant lowkey. wouldn't recommend.
This is a class required for my major, if you too are bad at math be prepared to struggle. Toebben is helpful, but he does have a PhD in math, so he thinks like someone who has a PhD in math. He's a good guy but the class is extrememly difficult (if you are great at math im sure you'll do well). Please register at your discretion. Be prepared.
So I would agree with everyone else holy s*** this class was hard I did struggle but I did ask for help!! If you do not understand something go to his office hour. How I got an A and how I'm gonna tell you is understand the steps and write the steps down. I had like two Google docs written of information as the test was open notes.
he often made jokes in class and engaged with students during lectures which made it fun! while the tests were more difficult than homework and labs, it is all open notes so do with that as you will. this course can be challenging at times, but this professor has many resources to help you succeed. would def recommend him!!
This class was extremely frustrating. You will get assigned homework and labs and he will give you example problems in the lecture but they will be nothing like the test. He writes the exam himself and uses wording that can be hard to grasp. The test are all online and open notes but have a time limit and missing two gets you a B.
Toebben is the best stats professor at UGA. Stats overall is difficult but he makes it sufferable
I hate math but I liked his class. Tests, quizzes and homework are open note/book so attending lectures, going for office hours is helpful. He is hilarious, actually explains concepts and gives plenty examples. He writes on a paper in class and displays it for students to follow along. He is FAST but will clear your questions and doubts.
While Toebben is a great lecturer, the level of difficulty in the homework and practice compared to the quizzes and tests are not proportional. He is the one who writes all material for questions for all stat classes, so if you have to take STAT, take him. He is the best possible professor to take in this area for optimal success.
He formats his notes online very helpfully. I skipped a lot, more work for me to catch up online (not suggested). Be able to grasp context recognition as test material is more complex then practice exams and homework. Not a math person myself, so I studied excessively - ended up being my easiest class! Had high expectations for him, and he matched!
Really amazing teacher who really wants his students to succeed. He's super helpful with less than boring lectures. He is accessible and really willing to help
Attendance was never required, but his lectures were always helpful and entertaining. The homework and practice problems were exactly like the quizzes and tests. Super easy to do well as long as you prepared.
Even though I really didn't like Stats, Nick made the class a little more interesting and fun. Going to lectures helped me a lot just because of the amount of examples he did in class. Those examples were really similar to what the homework and quiz questions were like. Overall, I did much better than I was expecting in Stats because of Nick
Great teacher 10/10 recommend for stat 2000. He drops a bunch of labs/tests/quizzes. Super reasonable.
Nick's class is definitely lecture heavy but he's the only professor I've ever had that made the lecture's fun and interesting. Attendance is not required but definitely recommended. However, if you're good with statistics and study the hw/quizzes, you could probably get away with not attending lectures.
He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is very funny and down to earth, and truly cares about you. He goes on tangents about how we should be happy and mentally healthy. His class gives a lot of room to get a good grade. The content and tests can sometimes be challenging but do the practice tests and review homework. Labs are breezy.
He's a good lecturer who gives good examples. I did not think the material was that hard but the tests were always so short so missing one question would drop your grade by a lot of points. The problem with this class is more at the fault of the department as a whole rather than Toebben as a professor.
Nick is by far the best professor I have ever had at UGA. The practice quizzes and homework were almost identical to the tests and he prepared us specifically based on the test material. He really cares about your mental health and is more than happy to help outside of class if you're struggling in any way. I cannot recommend him more.
The absolute goat!!! Don't even have to pay attention in class to do well. Also he is lowkey a comedian.
Amazing professor, hand-writes notes so it's easy to keep up. No attendance policy, he'll give you the notes when you're able to come. Online homework every week. Online quiz/test every 1-2 weeks, all open-note. He's very personable and funny. He does examples in class and gives opportunities for questions often. Highly recommend!
Best professor ever! No attendance policy, and you really don't have to pay attention to do well. Homework every week but not too bad. About 4 quiz and tests each, but all open-note, and also nothing too hard. Just a nice guy all around with some good jokes every now and then.
Stats itself is awful tbh, but Toebben made it bearable and even fun. Attendance is not mandatory and he posts lots of helpful info online.
The class itself is not great but he's by far the best option! Explains the concepts well and goes over them with examples. He does post other professors' notes (not his own), which might give you a clearer look at the content but I personally found it a bit tricky to go back and connect to lecture. Solid lectures, and responds well to questions!
Professor Toebben is a kind guy, but this class, and its' tests, were unbelievably difficult. I studied for hours, only to make 60's and 70's. The quizzes were NOTHING like the tests every time. Class isn't mandatory, but I went to almost every class and was still lost. The course is just far harder than it used to be.
He was an excellent professor! He was hilarious, would relate to class, very open to questions, and cared about his students.
i gave him a 2 purely to bring down his ego. but its a 5 lmao He is a great professor. He is young which makes it easy for him to be sympathetic towards any issues. If you want to derail the class, talk about pokemon. The tests are a bit more difficult than one would like, but the homework and practice tests give you a good idea of what to expect.
super cool dude. his online lectures were extremely, extremely helpful. i found the exams were a little challenging, but fair, and thought they matched up well with quizzes, homework, and practice exams. there's a ton of practice and review material available. you either find stat2000 easy or impossible, but he's your best bet either way.
Good professor, attendance is not mandatory. If you study a little bit and do the homework you should get an A.
I really enjoyed Nick Toebeen's class. The statistics class is going to be hard no matter who you take. He gave test corrections on one of the tests, an extra credit opportunity at the end of the year, drops your lowest quiz and homework, and added 5 points to a test universally because of a mistake in web assign.
Toebben is one of those professors who tries hard to be a "bro" but will not accept that he did not teach concepts well when students do poorly. The tests are MUCH different from the practice tests and Toebben teaches you the HOW but not the WHY. If you're not a math person to begin with, avoid taking Stat here because this is the best you'll get.
I took STAT 2000 with a different professor, but Toebben's online recordings we so good that I stopped coming to my actual professor's lectures. Statistics is much more approachable with his humor and clarity, and you'll have access to all of his (and the other lecturers') notes and problems. Just go to your designated lab time and it'll be great.
Toebben is a great professor, but I found myself struggling in the course a lot. He offers a lot of practice content in and out of class, but I never felt that they reflected the difficulty of the tests and quizzes. He drops a lot though, which I definitely appreciated. He was probably the best professor for stat available though.
Best professor I've ever had, made me fall in love with statistics. Hilarious guy, makes sure your questions are answered and honestly just a great class to take with him. Make sure you do everything in a timely manner and you'll do well!
He is so funny, but also teaches the class well. The class is also super easy, I almost never went and still had an A. Take him if possible.
Majority of the class relied on online portions, which was not mentioned in the description. Despite attending class every time, I never saw him. I only saw other teachers. His statistics tests were absolutely unfair and a majority of questions were never taught to us and weren't in study material. I am a 4.0 student who lost it because of him. 0/5
As someone who is not good at stats, Toebben made it bearable. The class is graded by weekly labs, homework, 4 quizzes and 4 tests. There were a lot of resources to help study for the assessments, but the tests still felt very difficult. The online class does go at a fast pace, but going to office hours with Toebben helps A TON!
I took this online over the summer. You have to do labs, take notes, and do tests. All notes were asynchronous via videos on eLC. There were atleast 3 major assignments due every week which could be hard to keep up with at times. Overall I think he is one of the good professors in the STAT department.
Toebben is a great stats professor who makes the material engaging and accessible. While the tests can be challenging, he provides lots of review materials and resources like unstuckstudy ai to help you prepare. Definitely take this class if you want to learn statistics well.
Prof. Toebben is a nice guy, but the class can be quite boring and heavy at times. The content is fairly easy, yet he sometimes makes it more challenging than it needs to be. He sometimes confuses us, and it seems like he can get a bit confused himself, too.
If you bombed a test, that means you didn't show up in class, didn't take a notes, and didn't study. If you show up in his class, take a good notes and put some time for studying, this class is easy. If you know how to do homework, practice exam you should be fine.
He is a good professor who cares about his students. His lectures can be lengthy with a lot of material in one day, but he gives so many examples to ensure understanding. Only four exams total but with homework, quizzes, and labs, your overall grade is helped.
He's a good professor, but he does have bad handwriting. He is funny and his notes have lots of examples which really help. Missing class will def put you behind, but he does not do attendance. The tests are a large chunk of your grade and are pretty hard. Ultimately, the class is doable with him though. Would recommend.
Toebben was a decent lecturer. His examples in class made sense but are much easier than the examples you'll see on the tests. The homework and labs aren't that bad but the tests can be brutal. Grades based off online quizzes, homework, labs, and 4 tests. Overall the class itself wasn't hard but the tests can be bad.
Prof. Toebben is a nice guy, but the lecturers are not really helpful. You have to teach everything by yourself and I feel the labs are redundant.
I struggle with math but he did a great job giving very detailed lectures with lots of examples which are really helpful to me. The homework can be difficult but he gives a lot of opportunities to ask questions during class. The tests were not easy but he does a good job of preparing you for them. Also he posts all the notes and videos online!
I originally had Yumo Peng and went out of my way to go to his lecture instead. If you are taking stat2000, take him.
Just take good notes, and practice several times for jmp, and then you should be fine
I was assigned to Powell's lecture, but I only went to Toebben's, which was definitely the right choice. He's pretty funny and engaging and he covers a lot in class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I would still recommend going. I know tests were hard for some people, but I feel like he lays out what will be on the test pretty well.
I literally never went to class, but the few times I did I had many laughs. I took him for BUSN 3000 and the class was really easy. I would teach myself the unit two days before. However, I absolutely flunked one because even If you know the material, you can easily do bad on the tests since they are only seven questions. Be consistent.
Dr. Toebben made this class very easy and enjoyable. Attendance is not required, but going helped my grade a lot. He honestly made a pretty boring class fun to go to. I would strongly recommend.
Nick toebben was a great teacher however I always felt that they tests were fairly hard because there was only a few questions so i you got almost anything wrong your grade dropped drastically. He is super funny and while attendance is not mandatory I would recommend you go or you will miss a good amount of material.
Nick is a fine person, but the tests are so extremely difficult and only like 9 questions. He also wears skinny jeans to class. He is a decent teacher and is helpful in class, but I am just so over the 5 question exams that tank my grade.
He's pretty funny and straightforward, attendance isn't mandatory but participation matters. Explains things conceptually and simply, but also well. Be sure to ask questions if you do not understand something.
He's a really charming guy, but not a terrible teacher. I'd avoid if you can.
Toebben was an awesome professor. He cares about his students and paces his lectures to fit everyone's needs. The exams, homework, and quizzes were always very simple and he made sure we knew what would be on each assessment. Definitely take Toebben if you want a great stats professor and an easy class!!
Toebben's note is a hidden gem. He covers every single detail of the test and homework questions for well-prepare with JMP stuff. Attendance is not mandatory, but I highly recommend to go to class and take notes. I don't get why he got some bad reviews.
He is a nice guy, and I believe he means well. Especially in office hours. But this class ruined my 4.0 GPA. I spent countless hours studying, going to study groups, office hours. But it was no use, his class is extremely difficult if you aren't naturally good at math. His tests are few questions, easier to fail, never match practice test. Goodluck
My class had four online exams: two were at-home open notes and two in-person. These four exams were 50% of our grade. Where I struggled most was the conceptual questions on exams or quizzes. Overall he was so funny and kind, and easy to talk to if you needed help
He's a good guy, but his grading structure was awful. Your grade is composed mainly of four tests with only a few questions on them, and after you do badly on one, it is hard to bounce back. His practice tests never match the actual test, so even if you prepare you'll probably end up confused.
He is nice, but the class is horrible, it ruined my GPA, and is structured in a terrible way. Probably one of the worst classes I've taken in college. He also hand writes notes, and you can not really tell what he is writing. He also writes on bright colored paper making it harder to see. The exams are 7/8 questions and online in person.
His lectures are pretty useful, if you go to class consistently you'll understand what's going on and any gaps can be filled in w online slides notes. 3 tests that are vv similar to practice exams, web assign homework and quizzes that aren't difficult. Optional final that replaces your lowest grade. Entertaining and engaging prof, take his class!
Clear lectures and very funny but dry sense of humor. 8 homework assignments, 4 quizzes all online. First and last test online, second and third in person. Labs were annoying to go to, but helpful and not too difficult. He really does want to see his students do well, and it is definitely the best option for STAT2000. Do the practice tests.
GO TO CLASS. Attendance is not required but Toebben makes sure to explain very thoroughly and do a lot of examples within lectures. Labs are pretty boring and useless, but lectures were well organized and Toebben is a pretty funny guy. A good amount of drops, as long as you do your best you'll do fine in the class; he's more than willing to help.
Nick was a great professor. Went over everything thoroughly and made content understandable. Attendance wasn't mandatory but it definitely helped to go. Half of the class dropped by end of semester so it's not a free class. 4 exams worth 50% of grade (3 and 4 were hard). Overall a good professor but still a class that makes you try a little.
Nick was great. Stat is gonna be hard no matter who you take it with, and based on what I have heard about other professors, Nick is gonna be the best one to take it with. He is funny, very accessible outside of class time, always willing to answer questions, & takes feedback about how to improve his lectures! Just go to class and you will be set!
I was assigned to Powell's lecture but by midterms switched to Toebben's and started doing better. He's funny and his lectures are clear and understandable. I struggled in STAT 2000 on assessments because they seemed so different from the content in class, and I found that he actually taught the material that was on tests.
His lectures are very entertaining and his examples make things easier to understand. He also makes the tests, so his examples are often closer to the assessments than those from other professors. He's always willing to help. The tests do tend to be harder than the homework so make sure you are well-prepared, even if the homework seemed easy.
This professor was pretty funny if you went to class (which is not mandatory). I actually did better when I did not go and studied on my own time using the lecture slides of the other professors that Prof Toebben puts on the class ELC.
Watch the videos and don't be afraid to ask him questions!! Stat is challenging- be prepared to study as early as three weeks from the test. I work and am in college and my first test grades were 73 and 51 BUT when I began watching his videos on ELC, emailing questions, and studying with a classmate my next test was a 90! It's hard but he's helpful
Good lecturer, not mandatory lectures, but mandatory attendance for lab.
He is a great stat teacher! He is very funny and I dont think the tests were too hard at all. I actually liked going to class. He is leaving though.
STAT 2000 is terrible. I went in with a 4.0 GPA and had to work so so hard to keep a decent grade. The homework, quiz, and lab grades help a lot, but the tests were extremely difficult for no reason. There is no way to prepare for the tests. The questions are on a whole other level than homework and quizzes. If you don't have to, don't take it.
The tests are worth half of your grade and much harder than the quizzes/HW. Toebben is the best STAT2000 professor and explains things very clearly with relevant examples. Labs are useless. HW isn't hard, but definitely make your stat sheet before each test and have your prof review it. Doing the extra practice tests beforehand helped me get an A!
Stat2000 is a fairly difficult class that requires a lot of studying outside class time. Toebben is the best professor for this however, and explained material in a clear way during lectures. There are 3 quizzes, 4 tests (55% of overall grade) and 10 labs (mandatory attendance). If you study/get tutoring/pay attention in class it's not too bad.
If you have to take STAT2000, take it with Toebben. People with other profs came to his lecture to learn. The homework and quizzes are really hard. Then the exams are next level. I got private tutoring and used skooler exam reviews which helped a ton and you get a cheat sheet to use on the tests. Prepare to spend all your time on this class!
DON'T BE FOOLED. I had him last semester and had to withdraw. He is a really good teacher tbf. He teaches concepts better than any other math teacher I've had. He's also a nice and funny guy. However, his tests are AWFUL. I got 100's on all the hw, quizzes, and study guides but failed the tests. They are NOTHING like the content in the lectures.
STAT is difficult in general, but the tests in his class are much more difficult than any homework or quiz. He teaches by handwriting the content and putting it on the projector. His handwriting can be hard to read sometimes. Toebben makes the tests himself, yet succeeding on them is still a struggle no matter how much review or practice I do.
Toebben is such a great prof. His lectures are hand written so you can work at the same pace as him and won't get behind on note taking, he walks through several practice questions and makes sure everyone understands the material, and he allows everyone to bring a sheet of notes to the exam. He makes statistics material as digestible as possible.
