I had him in his first year teaching. Awesome professor. Gives tons of extra credit. Would recommend.
Awesome class. I thought I would hate it at first but I learned a lot more about politics. He made class discussions fun and engaging. He gives tons of extra credit. Study guides are based on his power points and he will give you hints on what's going to be on the exam. Highly recommended! You won't regret taking his class.
I just finished his summer course and it was great! At first you'll read the syllabus and feel intimidated, but don't be. He is a really awesome guy, but his reading quizzes will suck. No worries, extra credit will always be offered for those who need it. PLEASE, if he says a 3 by 5 card, use that! otherwise you'll regret it! Amador was here(:
Mr Zappia is a great teacher! If you do all the work and study for the exams, you will pass. He gave us a study guide for each of the tests and let us use a 3x5 note card. The reading quizzes are tough, but he gives extra credit. I appreciate that he tries to be unbiased and won't fail you if you have different political views than him.
Gives lots of extra credit. Very easy tests and quizzes. Understands class is a general ed course and treats the students according
Professor Zappia is easily one of the best political science teachers at MSJC. He offers tons of extra credit, be sure to take advantage of it. Notecard opportunities on exams makes his class a no-brainer. Show up, pay attention, and study for his exams. It will pay off and you will pass with a total grade of 100%+
No one really loves Politics, so going into this class I really didn't know what to expect but Professor Zappia made the class fun and inspirational. His lectures were not boring at all. Also he was a very funny guy overall. Definitely if you are looking to take a Political Science Class take Zappia you will definitely enjoy it.
Hands down one of the best professors I have ever had ! He really cares about his students , I went into this class just taking it to get it out of the way and a gen ed requirement . In the end I came out loving political science thanks to Zappia ! He offers so much extra credit , just show up and do the work .
Professor Zappia is my favorite professor this year. if you communicate with him, he will help you with anything you need help on. I don't even like government but he made that class pretty awesome!
Omg never laughed so much. Teacher is really laid back guy who will most likely become you friend :D also good looking :D made poli sci interesting. Online quizes are bit hard but he will give plenty of extra credit opportunities so don't worry. let's u use a note card for the exam. Overall great experience.
Professor Zappia is really easy to talk to and is genuine about wanting everyone to pass his class. He gives many opportunities to get a good grade, one of those being extra credit. He gives in class assignments, has open discussions and makes Political Science enjoyable for students. You'll look forward to coming to class.
I highly recommend this teacher! Really cares about his students, will help anytime. He changed my mind about poli sci. Take his class, you won't regret it, I promise!!!
Best teacher I have ever had. Nick is very cool and funny. Took his class because I read the reviews here, didn't regret it. A ton of people showed up on the first day, now I understand why. He isnt one of those teachers who will just give you an A without teaching you anything. Would take him again 100 %
I really enjoyed this class from the interactive lectures to the exams and quiz's. There definitely is a good amount of work involved especially reading. You need to read the chapters! He really prepares you for the exams we do reviews. You know what you're going into so if you don't study then you know thats completely your fault! Amazing Prof.!!
Awesome professor!! He is very caring and wants all his students to pass. Participation does matter. He makes his lectures easy to understand and Prepares you well for all his exams. Did I mention hes AWESOME...
All I can I say- I wish other teachers were like him. I ended up loving pol. science and looking forward to coming to his class. Makes great atmosphere in the classroom. His classes are interactive, he is hilarious, offers a ton of extra credit and understands you have a life outside of school. He will help you with anything, just ask
This was a class you actually want to go to! I love how he wanted people to express there political beliefs on everything from gun control to immigration and no judgement! Quizzes are a little hard! Study & actually read the book! Plenty of extra credit opportunities! He wants everyone to pass!
He gives out online quizzes, two written papers and his final for our class was to pass a bill and try to make it a law. He was engaging during lectures, he answered questions, provided a ton of extra credit. He genuinely wanted his students to pass and gave every opportunity for them to do so. I would definitely recommend him as your professor.
Great Professor!! Would totally recommend to take his class.
Really wants you to pass and gives lots of extra credit. Lots of group projects and he grades participation pretty strictly. Relatable and cool
Great, took the summer course
Great Professor. Decent on Communication. Very caring. I took his summer class. Intense but he got us through it. Would easily take again.
Prof Zappia is honestly the best professor I have ever taken. he is a fair grader, he is very understanding that we are students and that we all have other classes and lives outside of his classroom and so he doesn't overload you with homework. he is extremely knowledgable about his study, and he makes sure that you understand. (NO CELL PHONES)
I took this as a 6 week summer class. Overall the class was pretty easy just make sure to participate because its part of the grade. Also he has a required textbook but I never had to use it in class.
Professor Zappia is great and really passionate about the subject he teaches. I thought I wouldn't like a political science class but his class is awesome and makes the material easy to remember. He's also hilarious.
TAKE! Professor Zappia super cool guy and he's pretty young!!! He really cares about his students and wants them all to pass he's pretty funny & just the type of professor you would want to always have class wise he's easy he offers tons of extra credit there is a midterm final and several other things but they are relatively easy to do TAKE HIM!!
Great guy. You'll never fall asleep in that class. good arguments, listens to all opinions and doesn't judge. Treats you as an adult& with respect. Extra credit is offered on tests and quizzes are given based on readings so don't skip out on them! assignments are easy, some group workicipation required. Wish he taught more than ps101. Easy A.
He is amazing! I wish he taught more subjects besides PS! He is caring and very clear. He makes things interesting and hes hilarious. We did a lot of in-class assignments which made things easier and they were done in groups so you had the help of your peers. Youre graded on your attendance which is important and participation matters. Hes great!
You only take the midterms and the final as tests. Otherwise, it's a ton of reading and group work. He's a big nerd so it's fun to talk to him. But he knows that most people are taking the class just because it's a gen ed so he isn't super passionate about teaching it, which sucks for those of us that enjoy the subject.
This teacher is amazing! He really helped to make sure that students knew the material and passed the class with flying colors. His lectures were interesting and he puts a fun spin on it! Best teacher Ive had at this college!!
Dr. Zappia is an easy A. Really nice and a great professor, however, be prepared for his biased opinion in politics.
Great professor! I have learned a lot in his class and enjoyed my time!
The best professor at MSJC for sure. His lectures are fun and interactive, his study tools are extremely useful, and he genuinely cares about his students. Attendance and participation are very important, but he is also very understanding.
Always made sure to explain the material and the class jeopardy before tests was extremely helpful
Really easy class and he understands that you have a life outside of his class. He gives study guides that are helpful to pass a test, and he gives lots of extra credit
Took this class during summer. I dislike politics in general, so if I received a good grade, you can too! 3 exams total, note cards for exams, extra credit, study guides/jeopardy, group assignments (which helped me so much!). Great professor overall.
Zappia is the coolest political science teacher. He knows what he talks about and he will control what he discuss in lecture in case of making chaos for the class, For tests, we will review as a class and usually, he would only review only few of the exact same questions that will be on the test.
Had to take this course as a gen ed and I really wasn't looking forward to it. Only chose him b/c of prior ratings and they are very accurate. One of the coolest instructors I've ever, failing his class is harder than passing it. Participation matters for your grade and his study guides are basically what the test is. Highly recommend.
Taking PS next Semeter? Intructor Zappia is your guy. very cool. you will read but its not that bad. very nice and really enjoyed his class. Take Him!!
Mr. Zappia is a very understanding and funny professor. He is very cool, just show up, take notes and show up for reviews is key. Class is graded on tests but you get to use a note card and he goes over everything you need to know. You really have to try to fail to not pass his class. (btw he drops one test score)
Great professor and really knows the content. Unfortunately though, he teaches really fast and assumes everyone is already familiar with politics. I am not, so it was hard for me to keep up. But overall, with extra studying and being allowed to have notes on test, I got an A.
Professor Zappia is a great PS teacher! There are some group projects. Not a boring lecturer, posts the PowerPoint slides on Canvas. Studying is a must for exams. Test review is very helpful. Impossible 2 fail! Extra credit opportunities. Didn't use textbook much except to review some concepts but found free PDF. Current event also required.
(FALL19). Mr. Zappia taught using PowerPoint and it was useful, although you must take notes on what he says (paper or laptop) and it doesn't hurt to review them at home. His humor isn't for everyone. He provided study guides for tests and we either did Jeopardy or Kahoot before test day. He allows a test note card. We also had some group projects.
Zappia is definitely not for everyone, but he grows on you as the semester goes on. His class is pretty easy if you pay attention and do the work. Worth taking the class if you need it for credit.
I really enjoyed my time in Zappia's PS-101 course. Discussing current events through the lens of Political Science has been eye-opening and fun. Even through tough subjects are explored, Nick tends to keep a sense of humor and a level head.
Professor Zappia is a great professor; very understanding and will always do his best to help his students. The assignments/projects are fairly easy and he provides a study guide for every exam. He stays on track and answers students' questions perfectly and with great explanation. This class was very enjoyable.
He is a really great professor for this subject. The more you participate and ask questions the easier the class will be. He can get off-topic and the whole class can start arguing about a whole different topic, but it's fun. He is very understanding, I had him during the pandemic. The tests can be kind of difficulty but you can use a notecard.
He is an excellent professor! I love his class. He is a super easy class. He has extra credits, unit exams and final exam. I would recommend him.
Professor Zappia is honestly the best teacher out here. You will regret not taking him, he understands us students so well and does everything possible to see you succeed.
Great professor! He puts time to get to know his students well and is patient to work with you if you didn't understand. Attendance is pretty much mandatory since he covers a lot in one day. Gives out study guides for each exam, very helpful. His personality is what made this class enjoyable really. I highly recommend his classes !
Professor Zappia is by far one of the best professors I've had at MSJC. He's a student himself therefore he understands his students and is always willing to work to accommodate ones needs. We started off as an in person class but then transitioned online due to COVID-19 and he made sure the transition was easy for us and made grading easier.
Great class for the summer of 20' . Weekly assignments lots of extra credit. If you stay up on the discussions and submit your work you will get a good grade. Reading materials were provided and papers were written for each weeks topics. Work load was just right. For sure recommend this professor!!
Professor Zappia is the embodiment of what it means to be a great professor. He takes pride in his job and in helping students succeed. He is very approachable and responds quickly when you email him with a question. He has office hours and always encourages you to reach out to him if you need help. Makes PS fun and enjoyable. Best teacher at MSJC!
He is nice and funny but the organization of the online class was confusing. I couldn't find assignments because they were in different places and there were lots of wordy announcements so it was hard to find what I was looking for.
He is hands down the best teacher I've ever had. His lectures are engaging, he has a great sense of humor, he cares about his students and understands that he is not the only class we have. He's gotten rid of assignments to make things easier for us. His tests are straight forward-everything about him and the class are great.
Very easy to understand. Discussions were my favorite because they allow for an opinion on politics. Lectures are straight to the point. Watch the videos, read the notes and the exams will be a breeze. I was not interested in politics nor did I know about it but now I am fascinated.
He is a great professor, super laid back and chill. Course work is not hard at all and he is super understanding and flexible with deadlines and exams. Highly recommend he make the class easy and fun, his lectures are also a lot of fun and we get to talk about current events but never with animosity or judgment. Great professor and class.
The class was nice and straightforward. The assignments were easy to understand and the lectures were informative. I am not big on politics but this class got me interested in it. Thank you for this nice experience Professor!
Professor Zappia is great! I was dreading taking Political science because I am not a fan of politics but he made it simple and interesting. I love how flexible and understanding he is, if only more professors were like him. You are able to turn in late work for credit and he is always willing to help you. Easy to get an A :)
Great teacher, very understanding during pandemic. All tests were from lectures
Second class of his I've taken and enrolling in a third soon, which doesn't seem to be uncommon in his classes. Being in a hectic stage of life personally, his courses have been rare in that I can say I genuinely learned course material without losing as much sleep as a similar class would require. Excellent.
I took this class S-19 (6 weeks) while I was still in high school. It was super easy and I hate any reading/at home study. Lectures not boring, 3 group projects, easy tests (let us use 1 side of note card for a test). He told us youd literally have to try to not pass to fail his class and that stays a fact. Great professor for the course!
Mr Zappia is the easiest professor, as long as you read the short module, do the assignments, meet the criteria and submit assignments on time you're good. He doesn't have zoom meetings and mostly we are self study, doesn't require textbooks and his assignments are pretty light also has extra credits Overall greatest Political Science teacher ever!
Has been one of my favorite professors. He is very understanding about having a life outside of school. You have to want to fail his class in order to fail, its super easy just do the work and you'll be fine. Assignments are easy as well as the exams. Would definitely take his class again.
If you need to take Political Science 101 I highly recommend taking Professor Zappia's class! Very clear on what he expects for his class. Great lectures. As long as you keep up with the work you'll do great!
Class is easy, just a few papers and quizzes to begin with and he even dropped a few of both towards the end. He is friendly and intelligent, and a very easy grader. Though do not get too political in your papers or his demeanor will change. Do not be too vocal in class if you are right-wing leaning. Overall the class is an easy A. Just read a bit.
Do the work get a passing grade. Not a tough grader. depends if taking him short/long term depends on how much reading u will have in a week, assignments are not heavy, extra credit opportunities. there is a quiz after each chapter and a few exams. I would take this professor again, communicate with him about anything he is very understanding.
He usually went through a powerpoint before having an open discussion with the class. He wanted us to make sure we understood the concepts in the powerpoints through discussion. The homework assigned was usually discussion posts. The tests were usually based on the powerpoints and readings. He is a very approachable and chill professor.
Prof Zappia is a great teacher! He gives very good prerecorded online lectures that are included in each module and also includes notes and a power point for each mod. Tests are not hard, and discussions are interesting and interactive. He also offers extra credit in case you need it and he grades in a reasonable amount of time. I learned a lot!
Was a fun class, his lectures went by fast which were on video, since I did online. The modules were clear and the load work wasn't hard at all. The assignments and extra credit assignments were fun and open-minded. The quizzes weren't bad and is covered in all the powerpoints and videos, so no weird surprises. Wish he taught more classes at MSJC.
Legit one of the easiest classes ever, every week is the same which is a 10 question quiz and DB. Theres a few small papers but he grades really easy. He's good at responding to messages and very understanding. Tests are fairly easy. Do the work and you will exceed a passing grade!
One word to describe this guy "GOAT." If you want to learn and also have a reasonable professor grade your work, this is the man. Easiest grade A of my life. TAKE HIS CLASS!
This professor is pretty easy going. He mentions that its almost impossible to fail his class and I would agree. However, that does not mean assignments/quizzes/tests are required to be completed. Smart guy and very easy to work with!
Theres a lot of assigned reading but if you just listen to his lectures and read the slides, you'll be fine. You are required to watch several super cool documentaries. He polls the class to ask how everyone wants the class to go (e.g. small quizzes weekly vs big exams at the end). Lots of extra credit offered. Essays are only 5 paragraphs. Easy A!
he is a very chill professor and gives good feedback. Highly recommend
I really enjoyed Nicks class. He is very knowledgeable and the way he does the class is very good. He posts a video or two weekly (never very long videos). He also posts an outline of the information and the powerpoint. Then there is an assignment, a discussion, and a test every week. You can work ahead too. I never felt stressed and I did well.
As someone who isn't to interested in history Professor Zappia did a very good job with his teaches and the work was fairly easy to complete each week.
This professor gave my summer term life! With 4 classes, professor Zappia is not only understanding and has minimal work, but also has interesting content. If I had to take another class with this professor, I would do so in an instant! He doesn't make you buy textbooks and instead helps by finding a free version to better be engaged to the class!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! I took his summer term and it was the easiest class I have ever taken at MSJC being there for 2 years. If he teached any other classes I need I will always go to his. His short-term class was not hard at all I recommend taking this short-term course rather than long-term just bc how easy it is and not a lot work assigned.
Amazing professor, cannot wait to take him again for Polisci 103 Great lectures and a very caring professor, only 1 paper throughout the whole course, and of course your typical assignments and discussions which were plenty fun if you're actually interested in PoliSci.
I highly recommend taking him in person as the way he articulates his lectures is amazing in person. Plus, he is hilarious! His assignments are very easy and scheduled. The only downside is that there is a lot of reading, but he writes the information well and makes it as understandable as possible.
One of if not the best professor I've ever had. His class is very easy but still extremely interesting. Go in person if you can, his lectures are so interesting and funny, coming from someone who hates in-person classes. Weekly reading and quiz but super easy. ACCEPTS LATE WORK, which was huge for me. One paper for the year and he'll help you out.
I highly, highly recommend taking Professor Zappia for any class. He has good energy which keeps the lectures interesting and he has a well organized course. We had weekly readings, weekly quiz on the readings, weekly discussion, weekly homework assignment, a 3 to 4 page Written Paper, and a Final Project.
Professor Zappia is hands-down one of the best professors at MSJC. I plan to take another one of his classes. His lectures are fun, engaging, and interactive. The one fantastic thing is that he wouldn't ask anything of a student that he wouldn't ask of himself. He really cares about and wants to engage with students.
Super chill I did not stress at all in this class 10/10 recommend him, reasonable grader.
The class was pretty easy and informative. Clear communication.
