She is a very good new professor. She is young, but teaches you everything you need to go on to english 21B or english 1. She explains everything very well and allows late work with a lower grade ofcourse.

New teacher but knows what she is doing and doing it well. Clear and fairly grades on homework and essays. Doesnt make the class boring at all.

COOL, LAY BACK, but in order to receive an A you must do all work, but the work is easy. As long as you stay on top of your work, but not like other classes, IN THIS CLASS YOU WOULD GET CREDIT FOR YOUR WORK! TAKE HER CLASS!!! ENROLL RIGHT NOW!!

One of the best English teachers I've had so far. She is very straightforward and helpful. The work given is very easy - 4 papers & 1 research. Pretty easy stuff. The only thing I've noticed is that she dislikes people who are often absent and late. Pick her as your Eng 21A teacher, it'll be worth it.

i thought this class would be a waste of my time but i learned stuff i should of known by now. too much homework, every class. essays!!! lots of them. do well on those and you'll have a easy A. also do homework. does not accept late hw but accept late essays. good teacher, explains everything clearly until you understand.

Real simple, you dont want an esay teacher for 21a. This class is not transferrable and you might as well know work hard at english since you scored so low on your placement test. The class has 1 in class essay, 3 take home essay's 5 quizes, 1 reseach final and 1 midterm and final. this semester i have seen my english skill significantly increase.

I will tell you a strategy to get an A. Be in class everytime, and see a tutor for your essays. Except it is hard to understand her African accent, she is gorgeous!

Teacher is easy, clear, understaning. sticks 2 her schedule and calendar of homework. so you always know what the homework is even if you dont show up 2 class. brings up topics to discus n class, keeps you engage. TAKE HER! TRUST ME! she is real, and straight forward. calls a circle a circle and a square a square so she wont bs u. got an A.

Excellent teacher! Very organized, sticks to deadlines and returns homework in a timely fashion. She really wants her students to do well. I loved this class. A lot of hw in the beginning of the class but it is not hard to get an A. Thank you, Ms. Blackwell!

First off, Mrs. Blackwell is a great teacher.Hell yeah there is a lot of hmwrk and perhaps 5 or so essays but it all helps you to become a better writer and use ur critical thinking. If ur a lazy @$$ or lookng for an easy A then dont take the class.She is nice and helpful but sumtimes she may come off as kinda rude.I took her in fall 08 and luvd it

I took her in for 2 eight week sections and learned a lot, its actually more than I learned in my other eng class with gayle davis-culp; she does not teach at all. If Blackwell taugh all eng classes I needed I would take them with her.

Professor Blackwell is an astonishing teacher. She truly inspired me. I am now on my way to becoming an English teacher. Not much homework, it only takes an hour or so to finish. There are essays you have to write, but i mean it's an English class.

She's a great teacher! Black Collegians English 1 class get to read two GREAT books. She is very clear and helpful. If you are struggling let her know. Come to class everyday. Two group projects. 6 essays but they are interesting. She's great! Take her!!

She is a great teacher! It is an easy class if you do the work and attend class. She is helpful, you just have to see her during her office hours. She is also understanding if you miss a class if something came up just as long as you communicate with her. Overall, i enjoyed the class because she was very clear and fun!

Very helpful and clear about what she expects. The articles were interesting, but the two books weren't. Well, that's just my opinion. It doesn't matter whether english is your favorite subject or not; you will most likely enjoy the class.

Ms. Blackwell is understanding, engaging, and overall a great instructor!This is a very skill-and-drill-based course for sure. You start off the semester reviewing grammar- which is actually pretty helpful. Her grading is not strict at all. Best of all, she is VERY approachable. I highly recommend this course!

I love her! One of the best professors at SMC. Very understanding and easy to talk to. She is so clear and precise as well. The class is pretty easy if you just do your work. She will do whatever she can to help you. TAKE HER! She's the nicest professor at SMC!

I LOVE BLACKWELL! Although the books are long and tidious, she lets you knw what she wants in the essays. We have 2 group projects,two in class essays and 3 papers. She is not strict but u need to put in the effort. In the end my english skills improved. Thank you Mrs. Blackwell!!

AMAZING teacher! Took her for English 21A and English 1 :) Her syllabus is top notch, I improved my English Skills a lot, I don't understand why people say they don't like her teaching methods, this is college. She's very helpful and cares about your success in the class, take her!!!! :D

This class was by far one of the EASIEST classes I've ever taken. The whole way through it felt like she was holding our hands. It doesn't feel like college material, but it helped because I got to concentrate on my other classes more. I didn't take any of her quizzes and I ended up with a B. If you're really lazy, this class is for you. SUPER EASY

I ended up dropping this class because unfortunately this class is more of a teach yourself class. Definitely lots and lots of homework and reading due the next time you see her. So if you're only taking this or another class at SMC then you'll be good. Quizzes cannot be re-taken no matter what so always BE ON TIME! She's was an o.k. professor.

Ms. Blackwell is a very nice person and a great professor. She really cares about her students and is very willing to help if you make an effort. I think this is a relatively easy class considering the subject, but don't get me wrong - there is a lot of work involved. Luckily the reading and homework aren't hard. But you have to be motivated.

Professor Blackwell is a wonderful professor because she is clear on what she wants on her assignments. In addition, she does not give a lot of homework and she gives you extensive amount of time to write the essays.

TAKEN AT BUNDY CAMPUS; GREAT TEACHER, REALLY ARTICULATES THE ENTIRE LECTURE AND GOES OVER CLEARLY WHAT IS EXPECTED. PARTICIPATION AND READING ARE HUGE IN THIS COURSE.

Great professor, articulates the entire lecture and goes over what is expected. 3 essays, 2 presentations, 2 books to read. Too many assignments, but they are not very difficult. Just do the homework. Would recommend to take her. Not a very difficult professor.

All her assignments are very clear, she's there for you ; she gets happy when you visit her during her office hours. 3 papers, quizzes, and 2 presentations that are very fun. Take her she's college material, gets you ready for English 2 and isn't difficult. I would have received an A if I wouldn't have missed the day of a presentation.

Wonderful woman! she is honestly worth your while to take for an 8 week session... you can get your English courses done out of the way in just a matter of one semester

Favorite professor I've ever taken. She makes the essay writing process easy by taking the class through it step by step and making things due piece by piece so you aren't left with a huge last minute essay. Great feedback, reading is required but the texts are great reads and she'll do everything in her power to make sure you succeed.

Professor Blackwell was an amazing professor. She is really nice and is very accessible during her office hours. A little intimidating at first but genuinely cares about you. There is a group project that she assigns and creates the groups but its fun! 6 essays 3 in-class and three out. Had plenty of fun and learned a lot as well.

Prof Blackwell is an extremely sweet&caring teacher. She wants you to succeed. She will break down essays so that you complete each part separately - SO much easier to complete. She explains her instructions in detail (for HW or in-class essays) - never confusing. Lots of busy work in this class which was annoying, but freebie points never hurt!

Such a great professor for English 1. Made everything so easy and clear. Not to mention the books she had us read were really intriguing and helpful!

Professor Blackwell is extremely caring and does want you to do well in her class and actually understand the material. She breaks everything down to the period to make sure you turn in an A worthy essay. She holds essay workshops during class time to make sure we're where we need to be. I would have loved it if she taught English 2.

If you actually want to learn take her.

This was my first semester, and she made it less nerve-wrecking. She repeats a lot of her directions twice, just to make sure you heard them and that they're clear. She's very motherly and seems like a genuinely sweet person.

I made the best choice of taking this class this spring semester 2019. She's very well organized and caring.

English is probably my worst subject but taking her class made it seem a lot easier and fun. Doing you're work is crucial but it inst that difficult. She choose topic that were interesting to write on when it came to an essay. She just overall a great professor.

She tried her best to make it easier for you to write your essays which I really liked and has that tough love attitude. Im a person who despises English and survived with a B. Come to every class meeting and finish all your work assigned. Put a lot of effort!!! Advice- do all your work and dont SLACK OFF!!! Seriously, dont slack off!

Took her class in the fall 2019. I enjoyed her class. She made writing essays so much easier. I don't like English and never will but she made it tolerable. Come to class and finish all your assignments.

I honestly don't understand why there are so many bad reviews on here. I took an online course with Professor Blackwell for English Critical Analysis/Composition and so far, she is the best online professor I had at SMC. Her canvas setup was well organized and she always gave great and detailed feedback. I highly recommend taking her class!

Professor Blackwell is an AMAZING, caring, knowledgable, patient, and kind teacher. She not only teaches English, but advises students through her thoughtful readings and papers about life-lessons that can, if applied- change the trajectory of a students' life for the better. I took her online English 1 class, and I loved it! She is a gem!
