This was the worse college class ever! There is no detailed feedback from the instructor. If you do ask questions your grades will get lowered and hammered on next project or discussion. So don't ever ask any questions to learn further. The tests are misspelled , have run on sentences and written to be total confusion. You teach yourself BAD BAD
This class should be interesting and not difficult; however, this was the most ridiculous class I've taken. The grading is arbitrary, as are the test questions. There's a weekly discussion forum, but no forum for actual interaction with classmates. Grades are not provided timely enough to make adjustments on following assignments.
If you love to teach yourself, then this instructor is for you! Two chapters were assigned each week (about 60 pages total). Each week we had a discussion board with two replies, a case analysis paper, and quiz. She did not interact or provide feedback for assignments. No power points, videos, or instruction by professor. I would not recommend.
The grading in this class was incredibly inconsistent. What was an A one week is a B or C the next, even when you follow the rubric and instructions to the letter. The professor does not interact with the class at all and the discussions aren't left open to interact with other people in the class. I should have gotten a lot out of this class but no
I had had no interaction with the professor until week 5 when my academic coach was replaced. The professor is rude, condescending, and a retaliatory grader. I went from 95% to 89.9 % in two weeks because I dared to ask her a question! I would strongly advise looking for another instructor. By the way, 89.9 does not get rounded up to an A!
A 1000-word paper, a 500-word discussion post and a 50-point proctored test due each week. NO group paper! All grades come from an Academic Coach based off a grading rubric. Multiple choice tests seemed tricky to me. A lot of reading. Dr. Phillips provided a weekly update to the class, other than that I had no outside contact with her.
Run while you can. You can follow the grading rubric precisely for Discussions and Assignments, but she will give you a bad grade if she does not agree with you present. Heavy writing every week. Extremely vague when explaining why she graded you harshly. Worst professor Ive had in the entire MBA program. You will struggle for a C.
It is not the material that is difficult it is the grading. The Discussion and Assignment that are due every week are vague and not always in line with the reading material. There is a lot of disconnect from understanding the chapters assigned and giving the professor what she wants even if you follow the grading rubric. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
Her assignments are very time consuming. I would agree with others that I had no idea what to expect for grades when turning in an assignment. There are no lectures, everything assigned is either reading or youtube videos.
Class has a heavy workload. My issues with the class is the way the papers are graded - very little feedback & the feedback doesn't match the grade. The material is not difficult, but the test questions all seem tricky and unclear. I would NOT recommend this professor.
I'd give 0 if I could. She doesn't do the grading herself, has 5 other people do it so grading is INCONSISTENT. FEEDBACK IS TERRIBLE & they do not elaborate when you personally email and ask for them to. I had 2 classes w/ her & both were the exact same. All of the feedback from everyone on Rate My Prof is 100% TRUE. Do not take her. TRUST ME.
Guess I should have checked this page out before I signed up for her course. I had to drop it due to the coach's grading. I have used the same research style and writing style that proved successful throughout undergrad and other Masters courses. I am shocked about the treatment I received from this professor and more importantly, LSUS.
The course was the most difficult in my entire life. Avoid her
What should be a relatively common sense course turns into Chinese algebra simply b/c of inconsistent and vague grading. Papers are not returned in time to make adjustments. Take someone, anyone else, or somewhere else.
Each week you read 2 chapters, write a discussion, a discussion response, a research paper analyzing 2 cases, and take a proctored test. The tests are very specific and pretty tricky. The reading is dense and the papers can be exhausting after a few weeks. Definitely a lot of work, but I did learn quite a bit about OB.
She doesn't teach at all, just uploads text book chapter as is. No summary notes, nothing. But she expects students teach themselves, do everything correctly. Overall very disappointed.
She is the worst professor I've encountered. I feel she purposely makes her quizzes difficult and misleading, in the first quiz in our session, the class average was 70. She doesn't provide notes, lectures, or PowerPoint; when I asked for additional resources, she didn't have any and encouraged me to look elsewhere. I plan to avoid at all cost.
I made a huge mistake by taking her class. This was the most confusing course I have ever taken in my entire life. No feedback, no guidance, no direction. Yo are lift to figure it out all by yourself. Good luck if you decide to take her class.
No lecture, all reading was written by someone else. She also tries to manage students time by varying due dates instead of opening all content on Monday and due Sunday. Multiple choice and true false test questions are very tricky. Overall not masters level quality of instruction, BA level at best. Notice common theme from other reviewers?
Assignments are too time consuming. No explanation of material, you are left to read on your own. No lectures! Weekly reading is at least 200 plus pages. One week was over 500! Terrible grader! She will say you didn't follow the rubric when you actually did! The group project is worth 400 points and vaguely explained. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Professor did not provide any lectures. She assigned a group project, which was useless and time consuming, issues 100's of page readings on weekly basis nad was a super hard grader. If you are going to make the students do a lot of work, the least you can do is do a little work yourself
Nicole Phillips is the worst professor I have ever encountered in an online course, or any course for that matter. I already have two masters degrees, I understand the expectations required at this level; she gives very little in terms of guidance, but expects students to learn all of the 100s of pages of notes weekly. Horrible professor.
This professor does not put much effort into this course. All the grading is done by learning coaches and the grading is inconsistent and the feedback is vague. I had the audacity to email Dr. Phillips once and was met with a short, unhelpful and rude response. There is one group PowerPoint project due midcourse, a quiz and assignment each week.
Phillips was by far my worst online teacher. She uploaded chapters to reach each week and the quizzes were incredibly tough. The grading is very inconsistent and they do not tell you how to improve. (I emailed twice asking for help and was told there are resources online available to you.) There's no teaching. Learn yourself or suffer.
This was one of the worst classes Ive had in undergrad or grad school. There are no lectures. Only assigned text readings. She also never makes herself available. You are completely on your own. This is not teaching. She doesnt even give feedback after grades are posted when you request it.
She was very hands off. You have to deal with a coach. Mine was terrible.
Took MADM 701. Im a MBA transfer and never had a hard time online. I could not please her for assignments. Tests were extremely hard and I read the book 2 times in full. 720 uses the same book and it was an easy A. Pick someone else!
I can not speak to whether or not she is a good teacher because she doesn't teach. Every week two chapters, a 750 word paper, and a quiz. The grading for assignments is ridiculously tough and the quiz questions are tricky. Do not take her if you don't have a PhD because that is what she expects your writing level to be.
Required class for MBA program at LSUS. Case Studies are graded by an assistant and dont expect a response until 7 to 10 days after it has been submitted. Never have I received a 50/50, instead a 47/50 grade result. The tests are hard- know 2 book Chptr per week/questions are 25 questions to get 50 points. She did respond to an emergency event.
I think a rating of 1 is too generous, but 0 is not available. Each week you have a 2 chapters to read, a test (trick questions), and a long paper. Grading on papers is vague and they dont want you to have an opinion in your writing. This professor does not teach anything. You are strictly self taught. I would recommend avoiding her at all cost.
Lots of reading, subjective tough grading on papers.
I'm a straight A student. I nearly always score the highest grade among my peers in other classes. This class is horrible. In my opinion, the grading is unreasonably tough on subjective assignments. If the authors of the textbook were to take this class, wouldn't surprise me if they were given a poor score on assignments also. Avoid at all costs.
The class is entirely self taught using a book you can find on Amazon for $45. She provides zero proprietary content of her own. Case studies are due each week (8 pgs), but they are graded off of vague guidelines. I never struggled to write before, but I was receiving failing grades with no substantial feedback as to why. Please avoid her "class."
Will not respond to calls or emails. All learning through individual reading of textbook & weekly 5+ page paper. Her grading minions are inconsistent grading on writing assignments. I am certain their English is below 3rd grade level. The feedback would be how great my writing was, and then I would get <60% grade despite following the rubric.
Each module includes a paper and quiz. Tests have many grammatical errors and questions are built to be tricky. Rubric included an additional category expressly for point deduction. Sent ? to adviser, but did not hear back. Prof. instructions lack clarity and weekly summaries read like students are idiots. No office hours. Help writing center.
1 short assignment due a week (500 word minimum). Tests are fairly easy if you read the material. Text is easy to digest. Assistant graders are tough and its difficult to understand what is expected - vague feedback - heavy point deductions. Would not take again
Her workload is too heavy to manage if you have a very busy full-time job & any other obligations. I've worked up to 65+ hours/week for decades, & I could not keep up with her weekly testing and unrealistically-detailed writing expectations plus my job and normal life responsibilities. Each essay could take 30 hours to write in the desired detail.
I am almost done with my MBA and currently have a 4.0. I can honestly say she is the WORST professor of my college career! Does not teach, micro manages schedules through availability time of assignments. Expects masters level work but does not treat students like masters level students. Read between the lines, avoid at all cost! I wish I did!
Undoubtedly the worst class and professor I have taken in my entire college career. This was my last class in the MBA program, but dropped due to papers. I would do well on the exams, but the graders for the papers were inconsistent. It is not uncommon to spend 10+hrs weekly on writing alone and still receive failing grades. No lectures or feedback
Hands down the worst Professor I have ever had. Never heard one peep from the teacher. The class is completely automated. She refused to make any schedule changes because it meant she had to do work. Her "helpers" are the people who grade your work and they give back horrible feedback. Prepare to devote 14hrs a week to this one class.
50 point quiz (25 questions) and a writing assignment due every week. No final exam and no group work. Writing assignments all require at least 4 outside cited sources on top of text book citations and minimum of 750 words. I usually ended up writing more like 1000-1500 words per paper. Tough grader on papers and quizzes are very nitpicky from text
So ridiculously time consuming. I wrote a 12-15 page case analysis every week with about 10-12 scholarly resources. Very hard grader. My first case analysis on week one received an F (and it was 8 pgs). You need to read and study 2 long-ass chapters and take an exam every week. I ended with an A - she dropped the lowest exam grade. Take anyone else
Easy material. Professor is unavailable, grading is inconsistent (changing rubric halfway through semester), and nonexistent feedback. Finished with a 78.44%. Course moves quickly and good internet connection is vital. ProtorU is used for all exams and is extremely hit or miss. Lots of reading. Give it your all and expect a B. Maybe.
I only spend 3 weeks in the course. The first paper received an 82. Feedback was delivered in a PDF that contained no feedback. I was shocked because my 7 year old knows how to add comments to a PDF. My second paper received a 72 but was significantly longer. I accepted the grade, but again no feedback. Terrible 3 weeks.
Hands down the worst instructor I've had. A weekly paper and test, however the grading of the papers takes forever and points are taken off arbitrarily with no specific feedback, just a copy and paste of generic info on the rubric. Test questions are "gotcha" based on irrelevant details of reading, not core concepts.
Class consist of 1 test and on assignment a week. Sounds easy. No. The professor is a robot. . No zoom, nothing! 60 page reading per week. Test is not focused on concepts, focus more on the non pertinent information. The people that grade the papers are super tough papers are super lengthy. Look to spend 16-20 hours a week.
I started back in school with this being my very first class and first professor. The textbook is what I believe to be the issue because it is not clear or outlined the same way that the professor seems to want us to relay back. There is 0 support in this class.
An assignment for atleast 12 pages long every week along with a test. You have to memorize every single word in the text book for the test. Poor feedbacks by the facilitator. Inconsistent grading in assignments. MBA students are treated like middle school kids by her. Multiple emails have to be sent to get a response. I would give her zero rating.
Zero feedback, zero interaction, and zero clarity. Hardest/most unusual professor i've ever had in my life. Keep in mind that the required amount of writing is only going to get you a low score, go above and beyond if you want a better grade. Pray, pray to God.
Absolutely the worst professor in the MBA program at LSUS. I could get specific but just avoid at all costs is my advice.
Class consists of several papers, which have to be written as though you had weeks to prepare, rather than just 5 days. Each week you will read about 60+pgs from the txt book, plus a case study. You will then write at least 10pgs about the case study and receive a 60% score. Then take a test which focuses on everything except major concepts. Yay!
Awful. Not involved at all (zero). Forced to read a poorly written text book, massive papers due every week, quizzes that are designed to trick you. Real kicker is that beside having no interaction, the grading of the papers are outsourced to a private company who also provide no feedback. Really disappointed this is even allowed to be a class.
If there has ever been a moment when I found a professor to be full of themselves and to display a "better than everyone else" attitude, it is Professor Phillips. The questions on the quiz consist on being able to have a photographic memory and remember tricky things, for example, how a sentence was worded and gives 4 very close options.
Outside grader for case studies is impossible to work with. Average grade a D for case studies based on paper structure not content. Virtually impossible to meet case study grader's minimum requirements. I have never scored so low. Don't walk away from this instructor-run!
Assignments often make you reach for answers. No feedback or help. You are teaching yourself and trying to figure out "what the hell" should I do. I did get an A, but as a person with multiple Master degrees, This was a useless class and graded the same way.
One of the biggest issues is the book. Its terrible and not the easiest to digest. She does not provide notes, lectures, or power points. To pass the test, you have to read two chapters each week (60+ pages) and write your own notes on what you think is major concepts. The grading for the papers is tough, major points taken off for minor items.
This was my first MBA class and after reading these reviews I was totally terrified. However, my experience was pretty good. If you read the chapters and take notes, all of the information from the quizzes are in the text. My first paper I got a C and each paper after I got an A following recommendations of the grader. Lowest test/paper dropped.
She is the worst teacher Ive had in my entire academic career. I dont understand what she does to be our professor. You read on your own, no class meetings, papers are graded by outside personnel, & the short lecture videos are read by a robot. Funny that you learn about making employees successful & engaged but this class fails on that aspect.
I now understand why there is a no refund policy. I learned nothing from this class. The only thing I learned was this class was a twisted social experiment of sorts. I received a 52, 64, 76, 88, 94, and then a 100 on my papers. I went from an F to an A. I wrote the exact same way for each paper. I don't even think the papers were being read.
Just... don't. Stay away. Save yourselves.
This is the absolute worst course I have ever taken!! If you email the professor dont expect a response for at least 24 hours. Grading is unclear. This is the only course I have taken that starts on a Monday and ends on Saturday. What happened to Sunday?!
No Lecture, no feedback, no discussion, no contact. All papers graded by assistant with zero feedback. Textbook is a rambling mess. Quizzes ignore the important material and focus on minutiae. Papers are like banging your head against a wall. Condescending, treats students as less-than. Learned almost nothing. Waste of a semester.
The content of the class is very basic. No rocket science however Dr Phillips makes this class difficult but having the most specific rubric Ive ever dealt with in this my life. Her instructions are overwhelming and still unclear. For a class that teaches human behavior you would think the professor would practice some of the it. Stay away!
Run far away from this professor! Absolutely no interaction with the students beyond a weekly email that outlines the basic concepts that will be discussed the next week - otherwise you are responsible for reading 100+ pages, writing a 1000 page research paper and taking a 25 question quiz each week with zero feedback. No lecture.
Read 2 chapters, 1000+ word paper, 25 question quiz weekly. Tries to trick you on the quiz questions, barely have time to actually study because of the paper. When I emailed her my concerns, she told me I need to study the material better! Just DONT, I put in at least 50hrs/wk and barely got out with a B (not exaggerating)!!!
The weekly case analysis papers were graded horribly, I tried hard at first, C's, then I stopped trying and my grade improved the last 3. How? INCONSISTENCIES. The harshest criticism I have ever received on papers. My undergrad was in Psychology, I can write, well at that. Just take somebody else. The commentary is condescending and unhelpful.
Very little interaction with students. Expect to spend around 30+ hours a week in this classweekly exams based on details, not major concepts, and a 7+ pages paper due every week as well (you'll end up with 14 graded items). Assigns two chapters of a messy book to read each week. Research for the paper requires reading 4 peer reviewed articles.
The OB course is interesting in its own right, but, DO NOT take this instructor if you work full time or do anything other than go to school period. Requires weekly research heavy papers, 2 lengthy chapters & supplemental reading per week along with weekly quizzes. Good knowledge, unrealistic workload for students who are working professionals.
Would not recommend for Organization Behavior. Do not expect to have a life outside this class. Expect to read on average 60-90 textbook pages per week. Quiz each week is proctored and covers the reading and the questions can be extremely specific. Every week a 500 word discussion post with 3 sources is due or a 1000 word case analysis is due.
This was the single worst class I have ever taken. The other reviews here are not hyperbole and there is nothing I really need to add that hasn't been covered. Run away from this professor.
Worst professor. Get ready for 20+ hours each week for this class. The reading is at least 60 textbook pages a week. An assignment is due every week which turns out to be a 12 page paper. Turnitin picks up in every quote in the paper and previous students papers, making it near impossible to write a decent paper with support. Dont take this class.
Very reading heavy, though there are some audio lectures as well. There are also interesting supplemental videos, though I thought they sometimes contradicted the text books. NO TESTS. All writing based. Weekly assignments ranged from 500-1500 words, so not too bad. There's also one "semester long" project that is pretty easy.
Feedback only once a week. She will respond to emails if you seek it. Only time I talked to her was in the beginning for a Zoom call and it was text based. Read 2 chapters per week, watch videos to summarize chapters (they won't help on test though), 4-500 page discussions, 3-1000 word papers. Discussions are graded by students. Does she exist? Run
If you enjoy being pushed hard to accomplish more and be challenged, you will love Dr. Phillips. She pushes you to levels of discomfort, reward comes with those extra efforts. If you are looking for an easy A, go elsewhere. Small Business and Family Enterprise has been one of my favorite classes and thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Phillips.
Should have come here BEFORE taking her class. She uses the typical lazy instructor trope where she has you read 2 chapters, then some random article and tells you to write a paper about the article incorporating concepts from the readings. You wont learn anything, and will be angry after reading her childish feedback. Waste of time and money.
She makes you work for your grade, which I'm expecting to make a B. You must put forth a lot of effort and go above and beyond what you are asked to do in order to get a decent grade. The discussions are graded by your peers and your score must be similar to the others who graded the same discussions, which that should not be placed on students.
Horrible professor! super specific and ridiculous test questions. you would have to read the chapters 1000 times to get the right answers on her tests. very tough grader on papers and HORRIBLE discussion grading format (uses other students subjective input + algorithm to determine YOUR grade) worst experience thus far at LSUS. tanked my GPA!!
Only class I have ever dropped. Did so on the last available day to receive a W, so it wouldn't destroy my 3.8 GPA. I am midway through an MBA, having already completed my bachelor's (years ago) and have never withdrawn from a class. Ever. That should tell you all you need to know.
Worst experience at LSUS 1)Inconsistent grader on papers. Reached out for advise a few times and was given matrix info. Zero constructive/specific feedback 2)2 POINTS away from an A. Contacted Prof Philips, she replied "I don't understand". "2 points away, let me earn it" is not a hard concept 3)Doesn't seem to care or like to be contacted
Worst experience at LSUS. Avoid Phillips at all costs. She is uninvolved and lets TAs do everything. The detailed rubric for your weekly papers is misleading. However many sources (and whatever the minimum word count) it says you should have--double it or see your grade drop. Highly subjective and comports with the worst of academic snobbery. RUN!
Her class was very easy. I enjoyed the textbook because it was straight forward. I enjoyed the homework and the tools to study for the test and homework quizzes. The only criticism I would say is that her lectures need to add up with her PowerPoints because she goes faster than her slides.
Possibly worst professor I have ever had. Do not take this course. She has no idea what she is doing. Student assistants are unavailable, grades not posted in timely manner, short time line to do assignments. Not enjoyable and learned nothing.
I've read all of the reviews and generally side with the negative ones. This is the only class in my collegiate career that I've felt obligated to challenge a grade. A paper assignment was graded, and the TA that graded it gave very broad and sometimes completely inaccurate feedback. Specific examples were emailed to the professor with no reply
The absolute worst professor and class of all time. Quizzes are near impossible. Timeline is absolutely ridiculous. Do not take this class with Dr. Phillips. Save yourself and take it with literally anyone else. DO NOT TAKE THIS WITH HER. YOU WILL HATE YOURSELF FOR IT. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. DO NOT TAKE TH
Weekly exams that are heavy on theory from text readings. Readings are usually 60-80 pages and all information is fair game. Grading criteria for assignments are pretty clear, but responses require higher level analysis and definitely must be worked on over a few days.
