He is really good teacher but goes a little fast but if u keep with his pace you'll be do just fine and learn alot from him.
He had an accent that was hard to understand & he went very quickly through the material. Do the homework & do it right since the quizzes are straight from the h/w. Study guides are helpful for tests, but don't go to him for help- he'll only confuse you more. Only passed b/c my dad teaches math.
ONLINE: 10 question quiz every week, 20 question tests (worth 140 pts)every few weeks. Doesn't respond to questions, know your stuff. I have to re-take the class because I was dropped mid-semester for missing two quizzes. STRICT. Only recommend for those who need to get prereq done to take calculus.
Pros - the video instructor is funny and easy to watch. Homework is self correcting, quizzes and exams are usually straight from or VERY similar to the hw. Cons - Be confident in your ability with Math or study a lot because you can easily bomb this class otherwise. I felt the teacher was fair and always responded immediately to questions.
Does not like to answer questions when I attended his office hour. Speeds through material. Does not go over homework. I would not recommend for higher level Math.
Rushes through luctures, but always willing to help and very nice. His accent can also make him difficult to understand.
I took this class online during the summer, & it wasn't bad at all. As long as you stay on top of things & STUDY you'll do fine. Quizzes were pretty much straight from HW, but you have to be motivated since HW doesn't have to be turned in. Tests & quizzes multiple choice that are fairly easy as long as you study and review the chapters.
Teacher's lecture style is extremely poor, rushes over concepts and problems and has a rough time understanding why you might ask questions.
I took this class online, it was basically a bunch of videos of another teacher, Prof. Burger, lecturing on math 1. This was a very low stress class but if you are into math and need questions answered prepare for a tough term.
This class is a joke. I registered for the class and paid some guy at UC Davis to take the class for me. I got an easy A and no one ever found out. I was smart and easy.
Dr. Bykov is one of the best math professors at Delta. He definitely prepared me for upper division classes at UC berkeley. He is always glad to help you when you have questions, and his office hours are always open. If you show him that you care about learning what he has to teach, then you will have am excellent experience in his class.
He is a very confusing professor and will say clearly that grades are based on tests and quizes and then throws you out of the class for not doing the quote not required homework unquot. I dont recommend anyone take his classes unless your a genuis in math. OH yah and the thinkwell system has a lot of loopholes which he will NEVER comment on. F++
He is funny and a good teacher. I would recommend him especially for people who are going further in Math. He is always on task and on schedule with the sylabus. He doesn't use the lab hours for lab, but for MORE lecture..But this ensures that he covers the material. Anyone that has anything bad to say about him is a moron looking for an easy A!
**WARNING** Do not take this internet class unless you are very familiar with Calculus or you have a good tutor! I found mistakes in the Thinkwell program he uses after paying over $100 for it! Other Calculus professors I spoke with in the tutor center do not recommend taking Math 1 online, I wish I would of taken that advice. Good luck!
very strict when it comes to grading.
excellent instructor! math3 is a difficult subject, but people in bykov's class blame their poor performance on him. It is not his fault you failed! It's your own! I passes with over 100% so it can be done. very funny guy, bykov.
good teacher!
His credentials reveal that he knows his math. However, he is an unfair and unjust individual. I enrolled in his online Math 1 course. I interpretted the syllabus incorrectly. He drops me from his course. I pleaded him to re-admit me, but he refused. If you plan to take his course, remember to READ THE SYLLABUS word-for-word! I could've earned an A
Interesting teacher! He is really good at math. Math 3 is difficult. Nothin is difficult if you just study and do the homework. Tests are kinda of hard. Try to the practice tests by yourself before he does it. His tests are based on them. I obtained a zera in his class... just kidding A
very helpful teacher.. took his class online.. but dropped out.. please only take the class online if you have time to spare.. you absolutely have to study for his tests (his quizzes are easy though) the tests have multiple choice and written. In the written part, you have to explain your answer... Take this class if you plan to put in the time!!!!
Very, Very Hard Class He leaves a obsene amount of homework. In short, If you want to do well in the class study 24/7
easy A
his class to hard. dont understand what he's lecturing
I loved the Thinkwell program and Prof. Burger. I'm glad Dr. Bykov chose this program. For my work schedule and online classes, this course worked well for me. Dr. Bykov answered my email questions w/in 24 hours.
Took him online. Responds quickly to emails. You must do well on tests to pass. Your homework doesn't help your grade no matter how well you do on it. So study hard to get the grade you want! Wouldn't take it online either.
I took this online. It was quite easy once you got the hang of it.The teacher helped whenever I contacted him, but other than that, you're on your own. But I pretty much aced it.
The class was alright. Much more easier than a regular math class I'll say. I really learned from the videos they were quite helpful. There were 3 tries on every test/quiz so that REALLY helped. I recommend the class... I just wish he was teaching MATH 1 for Fall 08 but he's not. Thinkwell is a great system. Do good on the test and you should be ok
This guy is really quick at emailing back. Email me at [email protected] for the textbook for math 82.
He is more concerned about rushing through everything to cover the text rather than teaching the materials. Is unclear, does not thoroughly answer questions and is the worse math teacher ever.
I can't imagine anyone not thinking that this class is easy. I took Math 82 online, received an easy B which would have been an A if I would have tried harder. He gives you 3 takes on every exam and is quick to respond to e-mail. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone!
I took this class online and it was one of the best and easiest online classes I have taken. The due dates are spread about a week apart so you have plenty of time to do the assignments and I really learned Algebra taking this course.
I was lead to believe that Bykov was one of the worst instructors. However, I found it to be quite easy to earn an A+ in the class, and overall Bykov was a pretty good instructor. People always seem to blame their poor performance in the class on him, but usually it is a result of their own incompetence in the subject. The bottom line is people can
Good teacher just goes too fast for me
This was the worst math teacher I have ever had. Even though this course was on campus the instructor never taught a thing....it is a teach it yourself course! Take it with another instructor...
This guy is the worst teacher ever. Dont ever take for any class. He doesnt teach well and when you ask him a question he just makes you more confused. A complete wast of time for everybody!
not a good teacher. Dont take.
I took Math 82 online for summer school. If you're good at math, take this class online. If you really want to learn, and aren't good at math- skip this class. I am actually terrible at math, and I was smart enough to get a very helpful tutor go over the material with me. I passed the class. 3 tries for the test, quiz, final, and hw.
I really recommend only taking his online course if your good in math or basically can be pretty self-sufficient for the most part. The videos help but often helps to have someone in person to help you. Bykov is great about office meetings as long as you set them up prior.
Utterly incompetent to teach. Lecture are not clear and he leaves you more confused if you ask him questions during office hours. Does not answer questions in class.
He didn't turn around to answer questions, ever... his letters look like numbers and his numbers look like letters, he is hard to understand and he has all work done on-line and then does work verbatim from the book but without asking if we have questions because someone always would. This is not everyone's best subject.
Bykov was one of the worst professors I have had at Delta. I'm an A/B student, and I work really hard... but I could not follow along in this class. I was made to feel like an idiot when ever I asked questions... which was rare because I would have to yell at him to get his attention in order to ask something. Doesn't seem to care about students.
TEACHER SUCKS!!! DID NOT ENJOY THE CLASS AT ALL
I struggle when it comes to MATH, I took Mr Bykov online class it was a total breeze. Each quiz and exam had 3 chances to pass and highest score counted. You MUST do the work and watch videos. Its a bit time consuming but what math class isn't. I really enjoyed this class and so thankful I passed :)
Don't take math 3 and math 4 at the same time. Furthermore, don't take math 3 before math 4 because math 4 will help in math 3. This class is challenging because it moves quickly and because delta forces the class into a three hour time block. It's information overload. Bykov is ok, and makes more sense when you come to office hours.
Responds to emails quickly, but grades hard. I took this course last Summer, and was .23 away from receiving a 'B' from the course. He would not give the 'B' even though he knew I deserved it. I don't like him one bit. Any Instructor who grades that way should not be college teaching.
not a very good grader and does not care much about your grade. To pass, you should try to get a 85% on everything but he still might not let you pass. Took it online and am not very happy about it.
Great professor, extremely clear. He is not an easy professor, so no not slack off. I recommend him.
I didn't like this teacher at all. I got a B out of the class but it seems he is only there to collect his paycheck not to help students learn math. I would not take his class again EVER!!
My class was a hybrid but the online program was extremely helpful. In subjects that were harder he would give lectures. He is a very nice teacher and is there for you if you just go and ask for help. He does have an accent but he's still understandable.
This guy is hard and does not care for student to learn. It seems like he cares more who fails than who passaes his course. Not clear, helpful and comfuse. Only 1 Mid, 1 final tricky. Bored lectures put you to sleep no sence of humor bored.too much hmk.no extra credit! it is hard to pass even if you try hard. do not take it or you'll be sorry.
Took math 82 online with Williams...failed because his platform takes wayyyyy too much time, which defeats the purpose of an online class. Retook the class with Bykov and it was a breeze. Probably could have gotten an A if I had finished all the assignments. He's fair in his grading and understanding.
In the previous mesterI had taken this class with a different teacher and failed. This semester I passed. The work was explained very well. I actually LEARNED how to do the problems and understood tem duringhis course. I would DEFINITELY recommend this class to anyone needing to take it. Professor Bykov was very helpful when asked questions.
After having a course repeat petition Mr.Bykov was the only professor that let me retake this course. Since I had no other option I took this course and I’m glad I did because I not only passed with almost a B. I actually learned the material.I don’t recommend for those that are looking for an easy A this course is time consuming and lots of work
Teacher not much help, but you can take quizzes 3 times and tests including the final 3 times. That part I enjoyed. You have a quiz and homework every week.
Take quizzes 3 times and tests including the final 3 times. But teacher is not much help if you have problems
I'm not great at math but this online class is good. Its not an easy A but if you actually study its not impossible!
This class was by no means easy but if you study, you will get a good grade. The first time I took this class with another professor I got an D. This one I got a B but would have got a higher grade if I would have done better on a quiz. He lays out everything easily and the platform is easily understood. Im taking him for intermediate algebra next.
48 homework assignments, 17 quizes, 5 tests, 1 final. At least 3 homeworks and a quiz due EVERY week and he doesn't re-open anything after the due dates.Unlimited times to try quizes/tests/final which is great, but you can't see which questions you got wrong until after the due date.HOW DO YOU LEARN?!Take online math, but with any other instructor.
The entire class consists of sitting in front of a computer and watching video tutorials on the material that is due that week. He does example problems every now & then. Def not the easiest class, but it's doable. I would recommend ONLY to semi-independent learners. Seems standoffish, but really a nice guy. Cant be afraid to ask Qs if need help.
I dropped the in person classes a couple of times after feeling lost. Taking this one online is a blessing, u can pause the videos, take notes, and watch again, without feeling rushed. The tests r not timed which takes pressure off. Highly recommend if you are willing to put in the time. FYI-time consuming Also I never tried to contact the teacher.
He is definitely one of the most confusing teachers I've had at Delta. His lectures seem to be all over the place. Makes me sad because he comes off as a person who is extremely passionate about math but has a little trouble teaching others. In the end no matter what anyone tellsyou can learn from his lectures just need to try harder than normal.
Took him for two semesters Online. You get an A if you do the work. You can retake the quizzes as many times as you need to and the Exams you get additional tries. Because it is math, it is time consuming. Every math problem gives you examples. I reccomend this teacher. I've asked for extensions prior to due date due to family issues and he gave.
He's enthusiastic and obviously understands vector calculus very well, but he teaches in a confusing way. The book is much clearer, so it's essential to read it. He can be a bit condescending when people don't understand everything. Positive thing: He's helpful during office hours, even if your questions are outside the main focus of the class.
Professor Bykov's online Math 092S course gives unlimited tries on EVERYTHING until the due date. He emails back quickly. Take this professor! He's a good guy! If you struggle in math, take this class because it gives you way more chances than you can imagine!
Took online. Unlimited tries on all homework, tests and exams. Answered emails immediately (even on weekends) gives you an entire week to complete tests and homework. Great professor, would take him again.
Long, boring lectures. Horrible at summarizing information, gives convoluted examples and his examples are not clear. He only gives two exams, plus a final, which means if you mess up once you're sol. Very condescending as well.
PROFESSOR BYKOV IS AWESOME. TEACHING STYLE IS CLEAR CUT. KNOWLEDGEABLE. I WILL DEFINITELY TAKE ANY COURSE HE TEACHES.
I took his online class I never met him in person, but I got to say he is great and I would take his class again. I am horrible at math but the homework, quizzes and test were unlimited so if your not good at Math you could take it as many times you need. The homework gives you step by step to do each problem, which helps a lot.
He never reopens any assignments. Do not expect any help. There is a weekly quiz and it is not worth much. The test are the ones that greatly affect your score. I needed 0.01% more to get a higher grade and he rounded down instead of up. No extra credit, no breaks, do not even ask or he will get upset with you. I received a big fat B.
I took this class online. Homework, quizzes, and tests were all unlimited tries. There is a lot of homework/assignments and a quiz every week. Quizzes and tests are difficult but if you study and never miss anything you can pass the class with an A. Also time management is crucial to pass this class.
Professor Bykov is very passionate about his subject. The problem is his execution of the subject for the students. He is unclear and acts very condescendingly when students ask questions even when HE asks if we have questions. There were 2 exams and 1 final. It was a tough class which I went to for 3 hrs/day twice a week. I barely passed.
I took this online. It's great that you can have unlimited tries on the homework and quizzes/test but still there is a lot of work. Again math isn't the easiest. He does grade fair also at times, will extend due dates. Check your email or you Mathlab to see if he posts anything that can help you out! Again Bykov is okay, but don't expect easiness.
I do not believe he has taught ODES before and his style of teaching is very hard to follow. If you want a good grade be ready to spend a lot of time outside of class on the material. Grading is 80% test and 20% homework. Would not recommend but it is possible.
Profesor Bykov is a very passionate teacher but you get lost in his lectures and work. Better off reading the book instead. You will spend a lot of time doing homework and studying. There is only three tests that are 80% of the grade and homework is 20%. He also gets annoyed when people ask questions. Don't recommend for high division math courses.
Dr. Bykov is good. He gives unlimited tries before the due date, gives clear expectations. The schedule is doable, if you manage your time properly. Homework assignments are 30 problems each, quizzes are 20 each, tests are 30 each and the Final is 35. Not an easy class if you struggle in math like me, but with effort, you can pass. I did!
Heavy on theory. No room for mistakes. Gives 2 hour tests with 90 mins to take it
I've taken online classes with him two semesters now and plan to take for my final semester of math this fall. Unlimited tries and actually responds to emails. When the computer marked me wrong And I was right I let him know and he fixed it. Taking math online is the way to go.
Professor Bykov is very easy to work with. I will take his class again.
HW assignments about 3-4/ chapter (4-15 Q/ assignment) and you have a week to complete with a quiz due at the end of the week. Each problem is given a step by step example, which made it very easy to understand. Infinite tries on HW questions, about 3 attempts for quizzes/tests. 3 cumulative tests including final. Gives a lot of extensions!
The previous reviews of Dr. Bykov are pretty spot on. He's passionate about the math he teaches, but his actual ability to teach it is very lacking. The lectures can be very confusing at times, and he's very condescending when it comes to asking questions making him very unapproachable. Most of your learning will be done on your own. BEWARE.
If you are taking professor Bykov for any higher level math then good luck. He is a very tough grader and with only three tests that make up 80% of your final grade you have little room for error. This has easily been the most difficult and frustrating classes I have taken at delta.
I took professor Bykov for online class. The class is very well-organized. You have unlimited tries on tests and quizzes. He requires to show constant activity. Homeworks are time-consuming, but they are necessary for understanding the material. He answers all e-mails. Highly recommended for online-course.
I took MATH92S online over summer, and it was on Pearson. He did not interact with the students at all, but the class was easy. The only problem was the site having technical issues. Honestly, I felt like I did not have a professor; just do the work on Pearson (by the way, "Mathway" is a huge help!) and you should pass easily!
Just finished Math 92S for summer semester. This class is easy to pass as long as you do the work although the homework is heavy and doesnt really do much for your grade anyways so very pointless. Professor himself was not helpful at all. Communication was very short from him and just felt like he did not care at all about helping when needed.
Definitely will never take math online again. This class was too hard for me cuz too many homework questions (30) per week, no feedback, feel like u dnt have a teacher at all just do ur work on Pearson. Not an easy B ,very exhausted after taking this mandatory this class.
Knows math well but doesnt explain very well. Stay away from professor if you think you might struggle. Doesnt help students understand when questions are asked. Always says this is easy, its ok guys that you dont understand
Just finished this class with him ONLINE 2018, and yes I will admit the coursework may be pretty heavy but comon.. welcome to college people! Literally just do the homework assignments (30 Q's), do the quiz (20 Q's), unlimited tries, and you'll pass the class. Final is online. I received an A- download the app MATHWAY and you'll thank me later :)
Not a good teacher to take online he does not explain math very well. When I needed help a problems it took forever for him to email me back.
Not a kind professor at all.. very condescending. I found this class very difficult as Ive always struggled with math and he did not help much. I felt stupid when asking questions and he was always pick on people to answer questions they clearly didnt know the answer to. I recommend not taking him unless he is absolutely your last resort.
I've never met or spoken to the professor, but this class was super easy. Download Photomath and Mathway. Photomath is quicker and easier to use for the more basic calculations, but Mathway can do stuff Photomath can't. Make sure not to miss the deadlines because there are no makeups. Stuff is due on Sundays, but all the homework is open.
He is very lenient when grading tests. As long you show you know how to do it, you'll basically get full credit even if some arithmetic is wrong. If you ask a question, it better be a good one or else you're gonna be belittled verbally. Past reviews made him seem like the Antichrist but he's really not. As long as you study hard, you'll pass.
If you want no communication what soever, then this is the professor you are looking for. No e-mails, no feedback at all. I forgot I even had a professor this semester.
Bykov breaks down all the homework to 30q which made it very manageable for me. Quizzes are 20q and you get 2hrs and unlimited tries, tests are 30 and the final is 35q. I am terrible at math but I passed his class. I'm a nursing major so I have to get through my classes by any means necessary and he's the way. Take him online, you won't regret it!
He's the best! I had him for Online Precalc, he is amazing. He's so nice!
I took this class online, lots of homework but gives you unlimited tries on it and also on weekly quizzes. You pretty much just watch video lectures and read the eBook if you want(I didn't) to learn the material. Responds to emails quickly and really tries to help you succeed. overall professor Bykov is a really great professor!
Though the workload is doable, you MUST have a set schedule for his assignments as he assigns more in a week than a regular online class would. Usually assigns one chapter a week (i.e, chapter 5.1-5.5) and a quiz. He is unforgiving if you miss an assignment and will not give you extra time/ partial credit if work is late.
A heavy workload, about 3 chapters of work and one test every 3 weeks, with one quiz a week. There's a few discussion questions/problems throughout the course. You have to buy a Pearson course code for the work.
Was terrible. Easily the worst math prof for one of the hardest classes which made for a terrible experience. His lectures were terrible and not worth watching, made exams super hard and on topics never covered. Cant teach and was not super helpful.
I don't know If Bykov is an excellent or mediocre professor. There aren't lectures at all, I had to used outside resources to learn about statistics and probability. For that reason, I had to work hard to learn. However, there are unlimited tries for HW. Just be aware of your time, do the hw ahead of time, and you'll be fine.
Nick bykov is great although never gets back to you until 3-6 days after you left him a message. Homework is fairly appropriate, you have 9-11 assignments each month with 4 quizzes and I test every 1-2 months. He is not flexible and doesn't care to help his students achieve and pass this class. If there is another professor available take them.
Stats 12 with this guy is horrible, he offers no needed information on the subject, he offers no direction or tutorial lectures. We are left to do an insane amount of homework and quizzes that are very unorganized considering he has us taking quizzes on chapters a week before we do the homework.
This class was manageable if all work is done. There are multiple assignments each week that are long. Followed by a weekly quiz. It is a lot of work, need to be willing to put in the work for your grade. The examples on the assignments were helpful. There are multiple tries to the quizzes and tests that I enjoyed.
He doesn't communicate with students and he gives a lot of work a week. Be prepared for a lot of homework and quizzes that are graded harshly. Grades drop fast. Assignments can be redone infinite times though. It isn't worth it if you don't have hours of free time.
worse professor ever. he's lecture put me to sleep. exam are very hard and no curve. this is the hardest class I ever took. Exam did not even cover hw and lecture. 3 hours straits class and only 2 min break.
Very nice professor but easily the worst professor I've had at Delta. Lectures are 3 hours long and practically gives no breaks. Lectures are also very confusing as he doodles frequently. Tests are 50% of your grade and are very difficult. I suggest having a study group in order to decipher his lectures and class materials. Do NOT take him.
language barrier a little rough but is always willing to answer questions and returned emails promptly
The material was easy at first but it begins to pick up. His lecture will go for the whole 3-hour block. You can tell that he is very passionate about the subject and will try to convey to you the deepest level of understanding possible. However, unless you ask questions all the time, you will get confused. Good luck!
Tough professor whose lectures are confusing and exams are brutal. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for preparing. Take this class with a good study group.
SO much homework. You might not think it is a lot when the work is assigned but it is at least three "30 question" assignments, and each question is 5 parts each. Such a time consuming class. Only took because no one professors were available. Please find some other professor.
Please choose another professor! There's at least 3-4 assignments/1-2 quizzes each week. Extremely excessive considering each assignment is 30 questions w/5-8 steps.I don't think he understands how much time it takes to complete each step but expects everyone to complete everything in a timely matter. He was the only one available, so had no choice
He gives so much homework. every week you will have multiple hw assignments, and quizes. All of the assignments have 30 questions and 20 of them are 8 or more steps each. each assignment will take at least 3 hrs(for me it did). Grades are based on your homework. The workload is unmanageable!!
I really struggled in this class, I would never recommend it. If possible take a different teacher if not get ready for hours of homework, stress, and feeling unhappy.
Take another professor, you have been warned. 2-3 homework assignments a week, each 30 questions, but most questions have 2-10+ parts to them, along with one quiz a week and a test every few weeks. Don't take this class if you are not good with tech; StatCrunch will be your best friend. The homework takes HOURS and will make you depressed.
The work was not hard but it was SO time consuming! 10+ assignments a week, each assignment had 30+ questions, and each question had multiple parts. You can pass the class but be prepared to spend a lot of time on the assignments.
Not recommended, unless you are very exceptional in theories in linear algebra. The tests are mostly theoretical, and his lectures are horrendous from his style of writing and messy when he rushes. This class is for self-teaching if you couldn't understand. Some lectures are not based off the book but are part of the topic. Use your notes wisely.
