He is SUPER smart. I learned SO much. His class was easy. If you go to lecture, take notes, read, and pay attention you can get A's on all the tests without any further studying. He was very lenient with dude dates. Great teacher!
He is a great teacher! He knows a lot about the subjects discussed and is very responsive to student input and questions. The tests are easy, but time-consuming b/c they are all written/essays. EVERYTHING on the tests is discussed in class, no tricky stuff - so make sure you go! PS - LOTS of reading.
This class was very informative and interesting without pointless memorization. Going to class is important. Sometimes questions on tests were confusing because one or more of the multiple choice answers were said in class. He wants everyone in the class to get an A.
i wasn't necessarily interested in the class. but he's a good teacher and way layed back, so that made the class much better
AWESOME! Take any class you can from him. He is such a good teacher. I never did any of the reading until about the day before the test. I skimmed the reading and went over his study guide & powerpoints. Not that hard to do well. Tests are completely essay, and I did really well on them. 3 papers, 3 quizzes, 3 tests. He is also way down to earth!
The BEST religion teacher I have had at BYU so far. He cares about the students and makes sure that a religion class is actually do-able, especially if you're not an RM or a member! He is hilarious and made every class enjoyable. He is also very intelligent and offers great insight on the New Testament. He looks like Dwight from "The Office"
Good teacher. There is a lot of reading for this class. The reading and attendance aren't required, but the class is hard if you don't. Only 3 take home quizes and 3 tests, all essay. Grades fairly easy and lectures won't put you to sleep.
AWESOME!Great teacher!Easy class its a good way to get your GE class done.Lots of reading but spark notes comes in handy. There is a quiz the beg of every class but they are easy and just test to see if you read.He also tells you what he is testing you on so tests are easy.He really loves teaching this subject and it shows. He doesnt try to trick you
Awesome teacher, he was very funny, but spiritual at the same time, and really helped me understand the book of mormon. He even looks like Dwight Schrute, which is a plus.
Bro. Frederick is a very pleasant, likable person. He's knowledgeable and has a good sense of humor. His tests are easy and fair, and he doesn't require too much work for the 2 credit hours.
I am quite impressed! He is so comical, but to the point where you can learn very well! Puts things in simple terms so you can understand them. Tests were worded a bit funny sometimes, but other than that, they were relatively easy. You can tell he really cares about the welfare of the students in his class.
This class was intense! It covered a full year of introductory Latin in 7 weeks. I entered the class worried that it would kill me--especially since I've never studied a language before!--but Nick is an AMAZING teacher and he made everything really easy to understand. If he can make me understand a full year of Latin in 7 weeks, he can do anything.
Awesome professor. Extremely good at communicating ideas, and gives fair exams. You know what you need to study, and what the themes are. No tricks.
Hands down, the BEST religion teacher I've had at BYU. The tests are exactly what we've covered in class, so if you come to class they're easy. The essays are not mandatory, but they will help your grade if you write them. Every lecture is interesting and thought provoking and available as a powerpoint online. I highly recommend taking his class.
Hands down the best professor I have had in any subject at BYU. I would sign up for ANY class that he teaches. He is Clear, interesting, funny, straight forward and has great reviews. TAKE ANY CLASS YOU CAN FROM Bro. Frederick!
Bro. Frederick did a great job teaching, I was in an RM book of mormon class even though i'm a freshman, it was a great experience though. He is a great teacher.
Bro Frederick is a FANTASTIC teacher. his tests are ridiculously easy. if you pay attention and attend class it's hard to fail. his study guides cover exactly whats on the test. he answers any questions you have in depth and on top of that he looks like dwight shrute! you just can't get any better. TAKE ANY CLASS YOU CAN FROM BROTHER FREDERICK
Great teacher! Easy class! The entire course consists of 3 tests no essays, no projects and the final wasn't comprehensive. Just look over the review before the test. He even reads the questions and answers to the test during class the day before the test. Really great class to take if you want to learn a lot and not have to worry about your grade!
great teacher, makes the grading quite easy and allows you to get the grade you want. He knows a lot of good information and makes the class interesting, would recommend him
He is a really cool guy. You know he is super intelligent. Really relaxed. He leaves your grade up to you. Explains concepts using modern examples. Nice guy, interesting class, easy grade. Just read.
This guy is unbelievably smart & so humble about it. His lectures were always enlightening and worthwhile. Tests are mc, but he lets you write an essay for each test if you want for xc. I never needed to write an essay & got an A in the class bc tests were always very fair. Go to class, take notes, do his study guide, and you'll get an A
Bro. Frederick is an intelligent man. Your grade can either be solely exams (mc w/ sg) or half exams, half journal entries. Extra Credit: write an essay before the exam. Number of pages of the essay is how many percentage points extra you get on your exam grade. He is a 'names' guy, but not difficult. Class is always interesting and exams not bad.
This is how every religion course should be! Absolutely awesome teacher with a focus on learning the scriptures. Tests are easy. Class is fascinating and focused. He knows his stuff and is the best religion teacher. I wish I'd found him earlier to take more classes from him. You'll learn a lot and still not have to worry about your grades or GPA.
Awesome guy. Piece of cake class. Take him for whatever you can. He's wonderful. He sees religion courses as they should be- uplifting to attend but not a heavy work load since we have other courses.
This guy rocks! He seems formal on the exterior, but is witty and laid back. You can get whatever grade you want with extra credit opportunities. I learned a lot and enjoyed it. Plus, he looks like Dwight Schrute! I ask you, can you beat that combo?
At first I was intimidated and didn't know what to expect on tests, but they weren't too bad if you looked over the study guide. Super likable guy. His class focuses a lot more on the scholarly side of the NT and not as much as the "spiritual side" of things, but it was fun and not too hard. Leaves you in control of your grade with extra credit.
Easy exams! I have a greater appreciation for the New Testament taking from him. His approach to the subject was way I preferred to learn in. Has extra credit opportunities all throughout the semester in case you fall behind. I enjoyed his class.
Amazing professor! His class is that impossible combo: an easy A that you learn a ton in. It makes you sad passing the class is easy because you actually *want* to study for it. Engaging lecturer, makes the New Testament accessible and fascinating.
Favorite teacher thus far. Understood what a religion class should be. No homework. Offers extra credit. Surprisingly funny. On the test the class average was lower than what he wanted so he just raised everyone's scores. Best teacher for religion!
My favorite religion teacher at BYU. He understands the subject well and takes time to answer questions. Doesn't make religion class stressful. Highly recommend taking class from him.
The class was great, with a greater emphasis on historical and doctrinal aspects of the New Testament. Dr. Frederick is very intelligent and one of the most down-to-Earth professors I have seen. If you have a problem with something, come talk to him and he will find a way to make it work. His tests can be moderately challenging.
You will not be sorry for taking Prof. Frederick. If you pay attention in class and read (reading the NT was my only homework), you will get an A. He gives you everything you need to know for the tests. I loved his teaching style. I recommend him without reservation!
Every religion professor at BYU should learn from this man. Brother Frederick is clearly very interested in the material that he teaches. He makes it interesting to his students. His reading assignments are not mandatory and overly stressful. He lays out on the first day of class the way to be successful. Daily quizzes aren't hard.
Not my favorite teacher, easy though. Lectured are boring, very analytic. Least favorite class due to the lack of energy in his lectures.
-Great teacher, I would definitely recommend him! -Essays (Optional) 1pt. extra credit per page. -Journals (Optional) If done they lower the weight of your tests scores. --Gives a fantastic study guide. -Respects students and their ideas. -Quizzes are given in class so its important to go. -Reading is optional (Recommended!).
awesome teacher. he teaches really well.
Dr. Frederick is a good guy and really knows his stuff, but his grading is rather harsh. If your not a good test taker, your going to struggle. I studied a lot for the tests but still got Low B's, high C's. He weighs his test to 85% of your grade. He does however give an alternative to lower that to 40% if you complete journals(kinda of lengthy).
I have never once in my entire life wanted to skip one of Brother Frederick's classes. I learn so much in every single class. He always addresses questions in class (this can be annoying when there's the one girl who has a 15 minute comment every week) and really wants students to learn. I would take every single religion class from him if I could.
I actually really liked Brother Frederick's class. Lectures were long, but i took it spring 2015. The curriculum isn't all that interesting, but it was an easy A. He offers different grading options and you pick what you want. I wrote a paper for 9% back on my final exam. He's way chill, and gives good study guides. I would do it again!
Brother Frederick is amazing!!! Such a great class. He is a very good lecturer, making it fun to listen. He leans more towards an academic approach to the New Testament but also incorporates applications for today in a very interesting way. He sees things a little differently, expanding my own perspective of the scriptures, the church, and life.
I loved this class. Bro. Frederick knows his stuff and will try to answer any question that comes up in class. This is a very intellectual class where I felt like you weren't getting the run around or going back to seminary where its was all about feeling good. Keep up on readings and take notes and it's not bad at all.
Best professor ever. Seriously someone needs to give this man a raise. I'll never see the new testament the same again. Professor Frederick made every lecture interesting and it was crazy how easy it was to stay engaged during class. He teaches perfectly. PERFECTLY! I will take every religion class he teaches if my schedule permits. A++++++++++
Brother Frederick is great! He offers so many different options to help you in this class. Tests are tough but he offers an essay option. He is a great guy.
Frederick is great! I learned so much more from him than any other religion class. If multiple choice tests arent your thing, he gives an essay option. I would suggest keeping up with the reading even if you think you know the Book of Mormon really well. Quizzes are on the reading and i never got less than 100 even when i just skimmed the reading.
SUPER easy grader. Honestly one of the easiest classes to pass as long as you go to class and do the reading that's assigned.
I can't speak highly enough of him. Incredible professor. Not because he is nice or easy or spiritual, but because of how much he taught me about the doctrine of the BOM. I've read 2 ne 31 40 times (at least), but he BLEW my mind away on the day we discussed it. EVERY DAY is like that. And honestly if you know the main chapters of BOM it is easy.
Not only was the class spiritually uplifting, but he makes sure you are getting what you really need . He provides a few different ways for him to weigh your grade, you can add unlimited extra credit on exams, and he pays attention to the important things in the class. He doesn't make you focus on minute things and really cares about the students.
Great class. Great spiritual humble guy. He always accepts comments and questions and knows how to make you feel like your comments are right. I would definitely recommend this class. Just do the reading
Prof. Frederick is great! His religion class is a perfect mix of academic and spiritual. You basically earn the grade you are willing to put the work in for because of the way he has class set up! Lectures are amazing, organized, and well-though out! I learned so much about the Book of Mormon
Super easy, as should be a religion class. You choose which assignments to do (if any). You could just take the tests and have that be your grade. Lots of extra credit opportunities. You choose your grade. Teaches in a very academic analysis of the scriptures.
Definitely my favorite religion teacher at BYU. He explains very clearly what is expected and how you can get an A. If you are good at taking tests this is the professor for you. I did no busy work just took two midterms and a final. Tests are passable if you study and attend his class lectures, which are actually interesting and worth going to.
Prof. Frederick's teaching style is a little different from most, but I really liked it. This class gives new perspectives on the Book of Mormon you won't get in REL121-122. The lectures could be a little longwinded at times, but I was never particularly bored in class. The way your final grade is calculated is catered to you, which is really nice.
Would Recommend to anyone. Won't regret taking any religion classes from him. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. If you try you will get an A.
Frederick was a solid professor. He gives a lot of opportunities for you to have control over your grade, like extra projects and stuff you can do for extra credit. He's not looking to make you do busy work. He hand selects the assigned chapters because they're important, not because he wants you to suffer. He doesn't present his opinions as fact!
Awesome teacher. Learned so much from him. I took a New Testament class from him previously and loved him so much I decided to take this one too. Teaches with the spirit and also teaches so you learn new things. Very straightforward from the beginning. Impossible not to get the grade you want becuase he gives you every opportunity to get it.
This class just was not my favorite. It wasn't that it was too hard, because it wasn't, and he offers so many extra credit opportunities-if you put in the time you will definitely do well in this class. That being said, I did not learn anything about the Book of Mormon, or really even feel the Spirit in this class-it was rather disappointing!
Frederick is by far the best religion professor that I have had at BYU. I've taken from all of the supposedly "best", but I was unimpressed. He's just a real guy that cares about his students and pays attention to students' questions. Most of your grade comes from the tests, but he offers a variety of extra credit opportunities and grading options.
I loved his New Testament part 2 class! He is amazing at lecturing and I felt that the workload was light. You basically have to come to class and take great notes. His lecutures are very interesting and he has much more of an academic approach. I felt I really learned about the context of the New Testament. My favorite religion professor!
Posts all the slides online with stars next to the important stuff, but pretty tough tests
I've really enjoyed his class. You will learn MANY new things EVERY single class!
Brother Frederick was an amazing teacher! He taught me doctrines that I thought I already knew, but taught them differently to help improve my learning. Very inspirational! He prepares you so well for the tests, and allows you to choose between an essay exam or multiple choice exam. I would definitely take his class again!
Deep lectures, very spiritual and respected professor. Prepare to be enlightened and leave class feeling good.
Listen up! He's great! He's willing to meet with you before and after a test to talk about it. Take advantage of that! It saved my grade! There are 2 forms of every test you can take. Take the essay. He gives you the essay questions before hand, so you know what to expect. Be specific, meet with him so you know what he wants. You can get an A!
this guy is a genius. he know his stuff and gives super cool facts and the work load is very light. i enjoyed this class a lot
Frederick is an amazing teacher. He is super knowledgeable about the scriptures and is really passionate about what he is teaching. His tests are hard, but he gives the option of taking either essay or multiple choice tests so that you can do your best based on how you test best. He also gives extra credit opportunities. Would definitely recommend.
This is my favorite religion class I've ever taken. Frederick focused a lot on the historical background of the New Testament, which really helped me have a better picture for what is going on. I also felt like I got to know Paul as a person. He offers the tests in 2 formats, and if you do the essay exam, you get a better grade. 10/10
This guy is a winner. He makes getting an A really attainable, not with an easy class, but with options for students (extra credit, various exam formats, papers, etc.). He is a great guy. He would be great teacher especially for students who may be are more liberal, not that he is super political.
Prof. Frederick was awesome! He was so willing to work with me on my grade, even after the semester was over. He seemed to genuinely enjoy teaching and gives two different test formats (essay or multiple choice), which can be super helpful for students who learn/test differently. Do your reading and assignments and pay attention to study guides!
Best religion professor. His class is real, reasonable, and not too difficult. I notice other religion classes have a lot of useless busy work and readings, but his expectations are perfect in my opinion. He formats his class very fair, so you can take either essay exams or MC exams.
Really great professor. You're tested on his interpretation of the scriptures (as presented in the lectures), which could annoy you if you interpret the passages differently, but this isn't a problem if you approach class open-mindedly; don't abandon your own opinions, but respect, learn from, and study his. You'll learn SO much.
(Took during Summer). Bro Frederick organized his class super well. Everything was clearly laid out on LS & the syllabus. Now, I wouldn't say it's an "easy A" class - at least for me, but the workload is what makes it worth taking. Very reasonable and more Rel profs follow suit. It's the tests that basically determine your grade.
Bro Fredericks has been my favorite religion professor. He is upfront about expectations and really reasonable about grading. There are no surprises with his assignments, and he's a respectful, fair guy who treats you like an adult and puts the responsibility for success in his class back in your hands. Just do the work and TAKE THE WRITTEN TESTS.
Bro Frederick is a great prof! He knows so much about the Book of Mormon and is a very reasonable grader. His assignments are clear and he gives his students enough opportunities to receive an A. Tests aren't too bad and he gives you the slides from lectures to review along with a study guide.
Dr. Frederick is a great professor. He uses some non-LDS resources and references which shows the New Testament in action. It is nice to hear other gospel scholars interpretations. Exams had a MC or essay option. Essay questions you get in advance and can prepare responses. Some work required for the class, but easy A. Highly recommend.
Great professor. Pay good attention in class and you won't have any problem doing well. I did feel like he labelled a bit too much of his opinion as "truth," but that's really the only negative thing I can say about him.
He is a great teacher. He really helps you understand interesting things. I would take from him again. He allows access to all his slides to prepare for the test and you choose if you want to take multiple choice or essay. He prepares you and is good. There are a couple small quizzes on reading but they are not bad at all. Not hard but learn lots
I really enjoyed Bro Frederick's class. It's how I think Rel classes at BYU should be. Not too hard but makes you think about the gospel in a new way that strengthens your testimony. Weekly easy reading quizzes just to make sure you read, exams aren't bad at all if you take notes in class, and there are a couple of short papers that are not hard
Participation: There are discussion boards in this online class which have to be revisited twice each week (your original post and responses to others have to be posted different days). Amazing lectures: the webinars are the only times we got to hear them, but Bro. Frederick's insights were really cool. LOTS of reading, but great topics!
Brother Frederick is a really good teacher with a subtle sense of humor. Sometimes I got bored during lectures but overall it was a good class. Tests weren't too bad and the reading isn't too heavy. Just make sure to pay attention, keep up with the assigned readings, and you'll enjoy the class.
Daily "yes/no" quiz about reading. Choice of MC or Essay exam (essays get better grades). Discussion based, but still clearly tests from PowerPoint concepts. Humble, genuine, super manageable homework: 2/3 completion type essays graded, reading quizzes, BoM project. This guy is a real gem. Totally recommend.
I find that BYU students are after three things when it comes to choosing the best religion professor: easy class, spiritual, and interesting lectures. Well this guy has all three! Do yourself a favor, and take this class. You won't stress, and you'll walk out of class feeling lifted.
Not the most popular or exciting professor, but he is very knowledgeable, and he provides the resources to pass tests and the class. I enjoyed and looked forward to his class, and he is a solid backup if all your favorites get snagged. Easy project at the end to be done.
You are basically only graded by a quiz once a week, a final project, and the tests. The tests are 70% of your grade, so basically whatever you get on the test- you get in the class. He gives you the option of a multiple choice or an essay exam. He prepares you well with the study guide, but I still would spend around 2 hours on his written exams.
He's a very good teacher and I learned a lot, the lectures are deep and informative. You are basically graded on the 3 exams, 3 essays (1 is dropped), and quizzes in class. Take the essay exams for sure, you will get a significantly higher grade on them and you will not have to study as much (but you will take 1.5+ hours on it) but it is worth it.
Prof. Frederick is the best religion prof I'd had at BYU. Really cares about the subject and his students and does his best to help everyone succeed. Gives the option to take a multiple choice or essay version for every exam, so you can play to your strengths. Really helps you to understand the New Testament
The final is 20% of your grade. If you do all the HW youll be fine. As far as a religion course, its still full of boring stuff but its not as hard as other courses.
2nd time taking a class from him because it's what a religion should be. He is so knowledgeable about the material and so if you actually pay attention you will learn a lot. Tests are 70% of your grade but if you take the essay one it's way easy.
Lectures are not very engaging and his tests are way too difficult for a religion class.
His tests are way too hard. Makes you memorize scriptures but doesn't tell you which to memorize for the test. Good guy, but I wouldn't take his class.
I'm not sure why a lot of the other ratings are so good. His tests are way too difficult for a religion class. Maybe these were put on before his class was on zoom, but lectures are not engaging and reviews sheets for the test are way to vague. Do the written tests!
I love this professor. His class is exactly what you want a religion credit to be. There are a couple major grades, a few more minor grades, and you learn so much. He is very inspirational, thought out, teaches things that you have never heard before, but doesn't overload you. Very managable work load. 10/10.
I was super lucky to be in a small class of only about 15 students taught by Bro Frederick over Spring Term. I absolutely loved it! I took Teachings and Doctrines. He took the time to get to know each of us, provided multiple ideas and interpretations of each topic, and was super respectful our individuality. The essay exams are not very tricky!
Professor Frederick is one of the best religion professors I've had. He offers two kinds of test, multiple choice (which is very focused on testing what details you remember from the lectures) or an essay question test (where the questions are based on general lecture concepts and your response is expected to be supported with lecture details).
Book of Mormon class is only okay. But taking New Testament the second half from him is amazing. That's his area of expertise and it's fabulous. Very academic class.
teaches to open your eyes to see the scriptures in a whole different way, not only teaching us about our religion, but WHY and HOW we believe these things. reading a lot on your own time, but reading is the only hw other than a end of semester project
Brother Frederick is incredible. Do yourself a favor and take his class. Reading assignments were never horribly long. Expect one pop quiz a week, which you'll want to do the reading for (but a deep read is not necessary). He offers a choice between multiple choice or essay for exams, and there's an easy semester project. Very spiritual lectures!
Amazing professor and best religion teacher I have had! His lectures are very insightful and I enjoyed going to class. Definitely plan on taking more classes from him.
Dr. Frederick is a great professor! He teaches clearly, has simple and straightforward reading assignments, and his essay tests are easy A's. The only thing is that he doesn't really look at his students while he teaches, which can be a little weird, but overall, he teaches with love and respect, and I learned a lot from his class!
My personal favorite professor at BYU, I cannot wait to take another class from him in the future.
Professor Frederick is one of my favorite religion teachers. He goes out of his way to make sure you aren't over-burdened by homework. Very open-minded and sensitive. If you absolutely the love the Church, are having questions about your faith, or are not a member at all -- doesn't matter. He's great. Light readings, final project (easy), 3 tests.
I can confidently say Professor Fredrick has been my favorite religion teacher. His lectures always included historical and cultural background (which I feel is important to understand when delving into ancient scripture.) One thing to note however is that very few things go on your grade. Only 3 or 4 pop quizzes your exams and a final project.
He's a good guy, but his lectures weren't very interesting and I had a hard time paying attention. He posts a study guide at the beginning of each unit, so it's best to just fill the study guide out during the lectures. Tests are either essay or multiple choice (your choice) and they are open scripture.
Awesome and easy class! He gives you the option of doing multiple choice or essay exams PLEASE trust me and take the essay exam, it's a LOT of writing but if you attend class, take notes, write down scriptures that back up the principles GUARANTEE 95-100% on exams! Only hw is reading in the BOM which can just be your personal study! Attend class!
Brother Fredrick is a solid teacher. I enjoyed the lectures and its a nice low stress class. Theres not an overwhelming amount of reading. Good guy, good teacher.
Great class! He lets you know at the beginning of the semester that you can pick between writing essays or doing multiple choice for the exams, and he gives you the essay questions and a study guide to prepare. I did the essays, and they're open scripture and notes and I've gotten A's on both so far (there are three exams). he posts slides online!
Second class from him because I love his lectures so much! Opened my eyes to the Mormon church and Mormon cultures, makes me rethink my religion, in a good way. prof strips the Mormon religion to the bare essentials, which allows students to regrow testimonies on their own. Lots of reading, but if you keep up then it's not that bad
I loved this class! He did a great job at inviting the spirit into his lectures and I learned so much from him. Class time went by super fast every time. His tests can be a little confusing but if you fill out the study guides you should be fine
I learned a lot in this class! His expectations were clear from the beginning and it is easy to succeed in his class. We read a new translation of the bible which was something I had never done in a religion class before
Love Professor Frederick! Have taken 2 classes from him and both had very good lectures and easy reading quizzes. You can choose between a mult. choice midterm or essay. He respects everyone's thoughts and genuinely sees his class as something that shouldn't affect our GPA but something that helps us spiritually.
I personally did not like the way this professor taught. I was often confused and I feel he complicated the Book of Mormon to a point where I wasn't interested in learning about what he was saying because it was too complex.
This has been without a doubt my favorite course I've taken at BYU. Brother Frederick captures the spirit of what BYU is about. He opened my mind to so many different ideas and his class was very provoking. He was very fair about grading and trust his students. I loved this class.
AMAZING PROFESSOR. By FAR my fave professor at BYU. Will take many more classes from him if I can. Class super easy but lectures are AMAZING, made me rly want to come to class. I learned so much + look at the BOM in a whole different way now. Super SUPER grateful I took this class. Exams all MC, no FR, and you can use scriptures. 1000/10 recommend
By far my favorite religion professor that I've had so far. Amazing lectures, and teaches great, inspirational things about the church. Has you think about and learn things you've never really stopped and considered before. You have both a multiple choice and essay option for the exams. I definitely recommend taking a class from him.
I really liked this class and bro Frederick. He really focused more on the teaches rather than personal beliefs. He offers both a essay exam and multiple choice based on what you think you'll do better on. It's clear that his focus is on allowing his students to learn rather than making the class hard.
BEST RELIGION PROFESSOR EVER. I learned so much about the Book of Mormon and I appreciated his unique perspectives on the doctrine. No homework except some easy readings before class. Tests are easy and you can choose the format you want to test in (MC or essay exam). He's super flexible and chill while still being spiritual and awesome!
Tests seemed a little harder than they should be but if you knew the study guide super duper well you'd be fine. Lectures are interesting and inspiring. I learned a lot. Professor is very knowledgable and willing to help us understand. Random quizzes on the weekly scripture reading. Projects are easy- you'll get a good grade if u do the assignment.
He is the most chill dude ever and I learned something valuable every class period. He is great at giving historical context so you can better understand stories in the scriptures. There are frequent quizzes from the assigned readings bu they arent hard at all. He also provides a study guide to fill out while you listen to the lectures.
Tests were ok, but you did have to devote a good amount of time to them. Otherwise very easy. He was a very good teacher. He was pretty engaging and kind.
You need to be in class to know what you need for the tests. Take thorough good notes and you'll do great. Each test is your choice essay or multiple choice(I did multiple choice). My 1 criticism: there were surprise reading quizzes he said there would be a lot so if you did poorly on one it wasn't a big deal--but there weren't that many quizzes.
This class was sooo easy which is nice. Very little reading and the tests are pretty easy if you fill out the study guide. Brother Frederick is super nice. The class was definitely more focused on historical context than doctrine/feeling the Spirit. Lectures were informative but not exceptionally interesting.
Dr. Frederick was a great professor. He really knows his stuff. A lot of the grade is based on the tests, but if you show up to class and take notes on the insights he shares then you should be okay. One project. The only required book we had was the New Testament, and we were able to use different versions. Would take again in a heartbeat.
Professor Frederick is an awesome religion professor! His tests were easy as long as you followed the study guide and did the readings. Just stay on top of everything in his class and you'll be golden
Professor Frederick has a lot of fascinating insights, is great at applying the context of the New Testament to the world/church we live in today, and he is easy going. All of the work is very straight forward, even the exams that have very direct study guides.
Only religion professor worth his salt at BYU. Focuses a lot on the historical context which was really interesting. The only religion class I have ever actually enjoyed.
Brother Frederick is amazing! He takes a very academic approach to teaching the New Testament but I learned so much! Other than reading you don't have to much outside of class, but you are tested on what is discussed in class and the info most likely is not on his slides. He is gives points back on exams if you go over the questions with him.
2nd half of the New Testament w/Bro. Frederick has been awesome. Lectures are super interesting, and learning about the context of everything has been super insightful. I think he tackles tough topics quite well. Most of your grade will come from the exams which are very doable if you just study the study guide. I highly recommend this class.
Super interesting and knowledgeable guy. Tests were good. There was also a project.
Professor Frederick was very knowledgeable and was willing to work with students. If you go to class you'll get an A. I missed a lot of class but still passed so it was okay!
I LOVE this man. I don't even have any more required religions but I took it because I like him so much. He is so reasonable and really wants everyone to succeed. He does not give unnecessary busy work, has incredible lectures, and gives an essay or MC option for the test. I learned so much about the NT and he approached touchy subjects so well.
He is one of the kindest professors I have met. The course is heavily history based, having to memorize a lot. Hardest religion class I have taken, however, he cares so much about your grade that he'll give you points back if you go to his OH. He genuinely just wants you to learn.
SO knowledgeable about the gospel. 3 tests (including final), a few surprise attendance quizzes, daily pre-readings (you can easily pass without doing), and an easy semester-long project to "bring you closer to Christ" - you decide for yourself what your project will be. Test could be a bit tricky, but not awful. Overall, a good class.
seriously one of the most accessible teachers. I have ADHD and the format of the class really helps, the study guide forces me to follow along its so nice! I never rate teachers but I love him
Great teacher! Would take again
Dude professor Frederick has been the dopest and best and GOATEST religion professor I've had. He made the new testament so awesome and blew my mind every lecture. I took it in the spring and it was awesome very light homework and cool final project and pretty easy exams.
Professor Frederick is a great religion teacher! I took him my first semester, and it was a great way to ease into college. He has pop quizzes, usually once a week, but they are super easy if you do the reading. Speaking of the reading, there's not a lot of it! It is not an insane amount to overwhelm you.
Professor Frederick is knowledgeable and willing to work with students. The class is history-focused, but with manageable tests if you stay on top of the readings and notes. Unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the course materials.
Professor Frederick is the best religion professor I have had at BYU, and I have had just about every great religion professor. It's informative, interesting, and uplifting. This is the best religion class at BYU that nobody ever talks about.
Nicely balances cultural background with spirituality and research. Does not have annoying reading assignments like some profs, mostly just go to class, with typical multiple choice exams that have very clear study guides, and aren't trying to trick you. Has a semester-end project and reading reflection, both easy. Big recommend!!
Brother Frederick is a fantastic New Testament teacher. If you do the study guides each class, you'll be well prepared for the tests which determine a lot of your grade. He offers exam reviews before each test, and is happy to go over questions. I wish I had found him earlier to take more from him. He had grades entered quickly and fairly.
I loved my class with Bro, Frederick. He teaches about the history behind what we read along with spirituality very well. There's a study guide for each midterm that if you fill out throughout the semester, you will be well prepared for the tests. He's always willing to go over questions you missed and give points back. Homework is mostly reading.
His study guides make this class a breeze. But even if there's something you feel like you didn't do as well on, he's willing to talk to you about it and bump your grade up a bit if he feels that you have an understanding of the concepts and you just weren't able to demonstrate it as well in the assignment/test.
He's great! He lets you decide how much work you want to put into things and what your grade will be. His study guides are very clear, and his lectures are great!
I loved his class!! It was very simple. He told us that we would get whatever we wanted out of his class. He teaches from power points and tells you exactly what will be on the test. He is very kind and I learned a lot from him!
Provides a very helpful study guide with the important questions to fill. Essential info only available in lectures. Sometimes blink and you miss key info during lectures. Slideshows are posted online without speaker notes. Outside work is reading a few scripture passages and giving a 2-3 sentence response. 'Religion professor' vibes, but fine.
This class is what you make of it, if you want an easy A it's totally attainable. If you want to dive deep you will find the class super interesting. You can write any notes in your scriptures to use while taking the exams (3 total). 14 reading assignments (2 sentence responses) and a semster long project. WORTH TAKING IT FROM NICK!
Class formatting is perfect. Read a few chapters before class and write a *very* brief response. Study guide is very straightforward, he explains the complex parts of the epistles and revelation SUPER clearly and concisely. Focuses on historical/cultural context most (my favorite way to approach the bible)
There are only 14 reading assignments and he drops the rest. Exams are straight forward, he gives a study guide and you can bring scriptures into the testing center. Lectures are a little hard to follow but he provides a lot of insight into difficult topics. Definitely recommend Frederick, it was a wonderful class and wonderful professor.
Please please please take Christ and the Everlasting Gospel from Dr. Frederick!! I learned SO much about the Savior, but the class was never a burden! There's readings assigned for each class that are super short, with a really easy assignment to go with them. He makes it very clear what will be on the test and doesn't try and trick you. The best!!
If you enjoy lectures more than participation/group discussions, you'll probably really enjoy this class. He gives a study guide to fill out in class that goes along with the test questions, but they don't always give you the exact info you'll need for that test question. He's really passionate about what he teaches & it isn't too much work.
A classic, excellent religion class at byu. Good discussions. Just fill out the study guide in class as your notes and get it down before the test and youll get an A easy.
He has a great study guide that we filled out during class that covers everything that will be on the test. He has a multiple choice and written exam options based on what you prefer. He is very willing to help people succeed in the class and learn the material. Attendance isn't mandatory for a grade, but it is very important to do well.
He didn't grade off of attendance, but it was helpful to fill out the study guide for the tests. He provided two options for tests that were multiple choice or a written exam. I took the multiple choice and found that they followed the study guide closely. His lectures were engaging and I learned a lot about the New Testament from him.
First of all, I took his grad BoM Seminar, so I'm not sure what his undergrad classes are like. That being said, what an exceptional professor! He knows his stuff, he knows how to teach and run a classroom effectively, and he has a fantastic way of listening to students while simultaneously presenting new ideas and perceptions in a compelling way.
super easy class. legit gave you a study guide with questions that would be on the exam beforehand. So your notes for class was filling our the study guide. He'd always ask to make sure he covered everything from the study guide too. Gave two options for exams, written or multiple choice. Great guy and made the lectures pretty interesting!
Bro. Frederick was great. No attendence quizzes/grade, but you do need to attend to get the answers for the study guide handouts. Lets you see 1 or 2 test questions before. Either a mcq or written test is avalible. I learned a lot without having to stress about this class, def take from him.
