this teacher is cool but alot of notes you will be taking.explain things very will always ask you what did you learn to make sure you understand. very nice teacher pass with B in his class. test are fill in the blank but lets you know what on the test. you read plays but they are fun to read. get the play books cause he go over what you read. :)
Great teacher. This was my absolute favorite class that semester. I learned a lot and the class was interactive and fun. If you don't show up to class this isn't for you because you're only allowed two absences, but he gives extra credit. Easy class as well as fun. I highly recommend this class! p.s. you don't need a textbook.
Little homework, easy tests. The teacher?s young, so easy to relate to. Funny, polite, and professional. He welcomes questions, treats everyone with respect. Sometimes he can get a little dramatic because he?s an actor. Would recommend! Just show up to class everyday and take notes. No textbook, just read plays. Quizzes on them are easy.
Show up + take good notes + read easy-to-understand plays + do the easy homework = easy street. This is a super easy class; just do those four things and you'll be fine. This class doesn't hurt your brain. It's an easy A if you do everything you need to. He's really nice. Sometimes he dumbs things down, which makes it even easier. No worries.
Yes he has good qualities. However is inexperienced with working in a Professor and student arena. His fall 2010 was a total dissapointment. He used to be really cool now he is just the opposite. Ridiculously strict. Took away the fun
You get to know your classmates in this class. It's unlike any other class. You get to watch each other grows as actors. Fun class.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! this is the only class i looked forward to going to. It's super easy and very interesting. Just show up, take notes, read the plays, and you'll do fine on the quizzes/final. He's a great teacher and I would definitely recommend taking his class :)
I have taken multiple classes with Nick (improv, production, honors humanities, and acting 1) and he is a joy to work with. You always know exactly what is expected of you and he is firm, but reasonable. You always learn so much and grow as an actor guaranteed. Someone who I consider a friend. :)
HE ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nick is my favorite teacher ever. His class is very entertaining because he is an actor. Lecture is kind of like watching a play. He gets to know everyone's names which is great. Also every class starts with music and then he does a short review. This way, everything stays fresh in your mind. GREAT TEACHER. GREAT CLASS.
Mr. Garcia is an awesome teacher. Period. Point. Blank. He gives interest to the history of Theater by giving vivid examples on his stage. There will be alot of notes and a quiz for every short play you read but everything is interesting and amusing so the work will seem like no work at all
Mr. Garcia is very hard, but easy because he really wants you to put 100% effort towards your education. You will learn the history of chicano cinima. GOT an "A", but i was push to an extreme level. Up to You to work for your grade
Great professor,Nick is very friendly and understanding,I loved coming to class everyday. It was really refreshing to have a professor teach something he had a passion for. It was also a comfort knowing he genuinely cares about his students which is seen in his attitude =) and willingness to help!
Mr. Garcia is an amazing teacher. I walked in to this class not knowing what to expect. I will say that the work load is a LOT!!! Don't let the "drama" title fool you! I did enjoy this class but if this isn't your major I wouldn't take the class, it's very time consuming and doesn't allow you to focus much on other classes... should be a 5 unit ;/
Professional and cheerful demeanor; brings to class a depth of performance experience rare at the community college level. Brought to life Shakespeare in a way that was electrifying as he coached us on performing parts of our choice. Top notch instruction.
THE BEST INSTRUCTOR EVER...PERIOD !!!
This class is not to hard. You have to really work hard at what he asks you. He can come off as disrespectful sometimes but I really respected him because he was into what he taught.Made it alot more interesting.Don't let him intimidate you the class isn't that bad.
This teacher is very smart he could be teaching at a prestigious university but he chose to teach at LMC. LMC should be fortunate to have him. He's very good at what he does, you will get your moneys worth with this class. His stories are amazing. Everyone at lmc needs to take this teacher.
This class has no text and is solid lecture, so if you show up at every class, then this is the class for you, it can be fun.
This teacher is a full time teacher. Bust his butt everyday for students grades alot of papers, essays, movie notes one by one. When I heard he was working this hard. Made me think that I needed to work harder and not B.S. my papers. He is incredibly smart.lectures off the top of his head.
Amazing teacher, can't say enough about him. Hated theater going into the class and he completely opened my eyes up. Keeps the class fun and if you don't understand he won't continue until you do. Give your all in the class and fully participate in all his assignments and its a great experience.
Nick Garcia is intimidating at first, he lightens up as the semester takes it's course. He runs a tight ship, if you have a passion for Drama he is the ideal teacher, however if you want an easy A I do not recommend his class. I would also not recommend his class if you are a heavy texter, he hates texters and will punish you with a 3 page paper
Took Nick for Acting 1,2, improv, was his stage manager several times, chicano cinema, directing,Shakespeare, and voice. He is the teacher I compare all others too. He is firm, yet fair. Since graduating I have found I miss his classes a lot. Nothing compares to his drive and enthusiasm.
The greatest professor a community college will ever have! He really cares and is genuine in what he does, his guidelines may come off as strict at first but later you will realize it is essential for professional conduct. Later on those guidelines will help in every other class because you gain habits that will lead to your ultimate success.
If you don't know how to write an essay I suggest you not take him because he will make your grade suffer. Big time. Other then that he's the best teacher I've ever had period.
Most interesting class i've ever taken at LMC. You won't look at movies the same ever again after you take this class. I wanted to re watch every movie I've ever. The teacher is amazing. The quiz es are the most challenging part of the class.
I seriously enjoyed going to this class every day. Garcia makes the lectures relevant to you and often acts out scenarios. The only real homework is reading the plays and going to the LMC plays and writing a review. I really recommend this class to everyone, even if you take it just for fun.
This teacher is one of the best teachers on this campus because he teaches his students things other then just drama like effective study skills that will make you successful in your college career. Writing everything you hear and see, etc. You will use these skills in other classes. Thank you Nick I appreciate it.
This teacher is hella Cool!! All you have to do is read a few plays, there arent that long and take notes, notes are your life but there are fun notes the things he talk about is so cool. He really enjoy everything he talkes about.
Best teacher on this campus. Changed my life and how I view the world around me.
Garcia was a great teacher. I had him for theater appreciation and I never got bored with him as my teacher. He is very energetic and funny. He is also really helpful and straight to the point.
Nick is the best teacher at LMC. This is honestly the best class I've taken in my life. However, this class is HARD. If you take it, you have to have a lot of spare time to finish your movie notes if you want the A. Constantly reminding us, he works you like a dog. But, the guy has a passion for his teaching and wants his students to excel in life.
He is a young teacher, but very old school. He gets alot of his students his classes aren't hard just need to put in the work. Get passing grades on the essays and you will get an A like I did. I don't regret taking this class . He's worth every penny you pay for his class. Take drama 70 it was the most interesting class I have ever taken.
Nick is easy enough to understand but he is hard on his students. In Humanities 24, he will be your saving grace. Overall, he's really not that bad of a guy. Sure he can be full of himself, but he at least can back it up with actual knowledge. Not to mention, he's very easy to relate to.
Hands down, one of the best professors at LMC. He has truly build a name for himself, with a high reputation known to students and faculty alike. Very passionate about his craft and wants his students to take his classes seriously. His improv class will teach you so much. However, he is not a fan of cellphones, so turn them off before class.
Nick Garcia is one of the best instructors at LMC. He explains things perfectly and has no problem repeating himself if someone doesn't understand. Just watch out for the posse of student actors that sit around outside his office 24/7, they will try to kick you out if they don't like you.
Mr Garcia is a great teacher! One of the best on campus! The class is easy, requires a lot of work but helps you develope great work habits! This class has changed my life!Highly recommended! Its nice because its not just about chicano culture. He incorporates all aspects of life!
alot of work to put into this class. but worth it in the end. you learn alot and it changed my view on many things. definitely one of the classes that made an impact on my education. turn off cellphones. extra credit available
AWESOME TEACHER! One of the best teachers I've ever had.. he gives great feedback and is always very clear with assignments! This class was super fun but you also work very hard, but its so worth it! Loved it!
GREAT PROFESSOR
Fun class. Entertaining lectures. My only complaint is that you are required to travel to some sketchy areas to watch the plays the teacher produces.
I've had Nick for about 4 different Drama courses and I absolutely LOVE this professor! He has been my favorite professor that I've had in College thus far! He gets the class really involved and feeds us so much knowledge about Theater Arts. He is very full of life and has a passion for Acting. I highly reccomend anyone who wants to major in Drama or just have fun and learn alot in the process to take any of his courses!
Nick is the kind of teacher that most people dream about having. He is extremely helpful and caring. If you are serious about what you want and are one of his majors he will work his butt off to make sure you succeed. Looking for a class that you'll learn more not only about the subjects at hand but yourself and your fellow students, this is it.
He tried intimidating the class on the first day, but the more he talked the more excited I grew. He sparked something within me to actually care about the class, and the beauty behind drama. If you skip class or have your phone out you'll most likely do poorly in his class. I just wish I participated more in his class.
Nick Garcia is the best instructors at LMC. I can say this that was one hard class. He even said it was going to be one of the hardest thing we'd ever do. It was fun and I learned so much.
Nick is such a great professor! It's is mandatory to attend all his classes, because you need good notes for the exams. He's a great story teller, makes it easier to let things stick in your head! Super fun class, don't be afraid to get involved and put yourself out there! Participation is necessary. P.S. KEEP YOUR CELL PHONE OFF DURING CLASS
Nick is a great teacher. He really knows his stuff and makes class something to look forward to going to. Everything that is on his test he talks about in class. There is no real text book, so if you miss a day you might have problems unless you have a good note taking buddy. He does have a test review day though.
Garcia is an amazing professor he is so inspirational. I actually enjoyed going to class. He is a powerful speaker and i have even teared up during one his lectures on the importance of writing essays. When he assigns assignments they all have a purpose. I would highly recommend Gracia's class to take. just saying he does assign a lot of work.
Nick is one of the best professors I've ever had. Took film thinking it was going to be an easy class. It's really not hard, you just have to put in work. He's very clear on what he wants. Gives extra credit if you do more work than needed. There are weekly quizzes and you write 10 pages of notes for every movie. I recommend this class. No textbook
Mr. Garcia was intimidating at first but after a few classes you learn that he's pretty cool. Work isn't hard but the notebook is 100% essential to this class because it's the only thing you need. No textbook to buy! The more work you do the more credit he gives you and do the extra credit because it can save your grade.
He is known for his cell phone policy. He will kick you out if your phone goes off or sees that you are on it during class. He was the best professor I have ever had. He is an inspiration to me and he is part of the reason why I am a college graduate. He taught more than just Drama. His lectures were also about life and being the best person.
Amazing teacher. Very inspirational, he always has a purpose for every assignment. His cell phone policy is not joke. This professor is highly recommended if interested in the Drama arts
A great professor that is truly dedicated to the success of his students. While very caring for his students, Professor Garcia pushes students to be the best they can.
You can choose: quizzes 2X a week or once a week based off weekly readings. You watch a movie everyday and take 10+ pages of notes. A lot of work but such a great professor. He's passionate about teaching students and preparing them for the real world. Would recommend to everyone- you've just gotta work for the grade. (Taken as Honors Drama70)
One of the best teachers at LMC! He really motivates you to become a better student overall and genuinely cares about teaching. I had him for Drama 070 and 030 both fairly easy, just keep a notebook of movie notes on the films we watched and a final essay. You also dont need to buy any books, just a notebook and pen!
I already loved movies and Garcia made me love them even more. Just take the notes on the lectures and movies, do the the work in your notebook and you'll be good. also my personal favorite quote of his "Take out those cell phones, turn them off, I don't wanna kick you out, you don't wanna go home & write me papers"
Good god, take this man's class! His passion is intoxicating. There's a lot of writing, but it's not hard. His class isn't hard, just a lot of work. The more work you do, the more credit and extra credit you get. Take his class. You won't regret it. Just don't fall behind on movie notes. His class is life changing.
"Take out your cell phones and turn them off, I don't want to kick you out and you don't want to go home and write me papers." Nick is such a great teacher who cares about his students. If you do the work, you will pass. I ended up not having to take the final and still got an A- in the class. Gives lots of extra credit.
I took this class over the summer and regret it. It was so much work and so boring. It was sheer torture. I have never written that much and watched the most boring movies ever.
I took 2 different classes of Nicks. I took Drama 70 international film and let me just say there was a lot of writing papers and movie notes on several different films. Then I took Drama 60 directing for the stage which involved a lot of movement and rehersing. Overall Nick is an awesome teacher. Who pushes you to be the best student you can be.
I took his online class. He gives a ton of work, we had to watch at least 6 movies and answer study questions. This is a class where you have to work for your grade. It took up a lot of my time. Some of the assignments are short and easy but a lot of them are time consuming. He doesn't respond to emails but other than that, I recommend him.
You can tell that he really loves what he does and cares about his students. While film may nit have been my forte, it was still very interesting to hear what he talks about. There was a good amount of in-class notes to take depending on the day, but they were all about movies and not hard to do. Easy to pass and definitely recommend.
Honestly the best teacher Ive ever had so far! Lots of homework and watched cool movies. Hes so inspirational and overall a great teacher!
He was a good professor
You can tell he loves his job! Class is never boring and everything that is on the test/ Quizzes are tased about in class
He's an amazing professor. I fell in love with the material because of how passionate he was about teaching it. He does not always assign homework so when he does, he expects above and beyond. He definitely gives credit where its due. I enjoyed summer taking his Chicano film class and would take it again if I could.
Really easy class, kinda tedious. You had to watch like 4 films a week, do a homework assignment on them, read the lectures, and there were only 2 essays assigned. It sounds like a lot but the work was very simple. He responds to emails and he leaves assignments open so you can work on them well past the due date. Great class, very interesting.
Have no clue why he has such praise. His homework is NOT related to what we learn in class. He goes off topic so often we actually quite rarely learn anything at all. His tangents are irrelevant and can in fact be disrespectful. I'm staying in the class but highly regret believing this was going to be simple and that he was actually a decent prof.
BEST COLLEGE PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD! Nick is so knowledgeable about theater and drama. You can tell when he is lecturing that this is what he lives for. I did not have an interest in drama before taking this class but Nick made this subject the most enjoyable one that I could have taken. He also gives great life advice and is a great mentor.
Such a fun class. He is such a passionate teacher and cares about his students. Put in the work and you'll pass. Tests are based on the notes you take in class. Have to see 2 plays and do reviews but it is a rather enjoyable assignment.
At first I was intimidated by Nick, however he's actually a pretty cool guy once you get to know him. His class is difficult, but he helps you through the whole way. He's pretty strict, but it's not in a bad way so it wasn't an issue at all. He's very blunt and straight forward with his critiques, but it's very helpful and comes from the heart.
The best acting teacher I have ever had. I came into this class super scared but I quickly overcame that feeling once I met Nick. He creates a really good work environment where you are set up to succeed. Now, he is tough but only because he sees your potential. If you want to pursue acting or just learn to be a good human, take his class.
The best acting teacher that I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I was super scared to take his acting class at first and now I have taken a class with him every semester since. Not only does he teach you about theatre but about life. 100% recommend taking his class. Don't use your phone though. He hates that haha.
Professor Garcia is by far one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. If you are looking for a mentor who will inspire you not only in acting career but in every day life, he is the perfect teacher for it. He will push you to your limits not to break you but to bring the best out of you. All you need to do is to be mentally present.
Took him online, class is very well structured and you always know what to expect. Mostly just watching videos and responding to discussions. He leaves all assignments open and takes late work. Definitely expect some work but its totally doable, and he's not a hard grader at all. 10/10 recommend!
Professor Garcia is a great teacher, understanding but gives a lot of homework and has amazing lectures. Professor Garcia class is easy to pass as long as you put your mind to the course.
What do I say? I had him from 2017-2019 a good two years worth of classes. When I say he is my favorite professor would be a great disservice to my overall experience with this man. He gave so many valuable lessons, helped me to understand the more poignant side of creativity and gave me at least a modicum of hope for my future in the arts. 10/10
tough grader, also doesn't grade assignments until the last week of school. he allows you to redo assignments but when you thought you were doing fine, it's really stressful to find out you are going to fail because you don't have enough time to fix your bad grades. he wouldn't be so horrible if he actually graded things on time and answered emails
not my favorite professor. Took him for an online course and he never responded to my multiple emails. heard he's alright in person but I think id steer away from taking one of his classes again. one thing that is nice is that he lets you turn in late work for full credit. so 3/5
Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with this professor. He took a month to two months to respond to emails and when he did it was very vague and unhelpful. There was a lot of reading for this class on this history of film, which you had to take a lot of notes on but I did not learn anything from the websites. Maybe just because online?
Most, if not all the homework consists of YouTube videos from CrashCourse. Other "lectures" are from his personal channel. Honestly, you could crank out a week's worth of assignments in an afternoon if you wanted. He doesn't really respond to emails, so don't expect to receive any feedback. Just grind through the discussions and you should be fine.
this class was OK. i wouldn't take it again if i had the choice. you have no communication from him from the start, it's asynchronous. the homework is extremely long for no reason--why am i writing 10 paragraphs each for two movies each weekend?! easy credit just tedious busywork. do not take if you don't have free time to watch the movies.
Never responds to emails, so if you are confused on an assignment, well good luck. Takes forever to grade, for one movie we have to do like 5 discussion posts and a paper with little to no instructions on how to write them. It is a lot of busy work so if you dont have time to watch the movie and write notes, and lectures, do not take this class.
Mr. Garcia was awesome and kind. I was going through a lot during my time in his class and I didn't do well on a lot of the projects/assignments. But Mr. Garcia was super kind and understanding. He is also extremely talented and passionate about acting and drama. never boring always interesting and fun
Difficult to reach through email and in-person. He canceled at least 7/15 class meetings we were supposed to have. The lectures often turned into tangents of his conspiracy theories about Hollywood and vaccines. The assignments were repetitive and boring. You can pass but you'll have to force yourself to care about this class.
