Nick is a fantastic Guy! I would have him teach all my classes if I could. Take him if you can he makes class fun and interesting! He grades a little tough but is fair at the same time!
Really nice and funny! Is a very fun course especially when you have a fun class(which I did). Outstanding guy willing to help as much as he can. Definitely worth taking a class from him.
Makes class fun and interesting. Take him if you can he is always willing to help and gives feedback. You learn without it feeling like your learning.
He is a good teacher! Kind of annoying at times, but the posities of his class outweight the negatives. He is super flexible: you can miss three classes without penalty and as long as you show up, participate, and do assgned homework you will get a good grade.
Nick was a great professor to have!!! Super funny!! He was always eager to help and made class fun and educational! Wish he taught other subjects as well. As long as you communicate with him, you will pass the class!!! Strongly Recommend!
Nick was a fantastic professor to have. He made class interesting, always took our input about what we liked and didn't like, and was ALWAYS willing to help us. As long as you communicate with him, You'll get a good grade and learn a lot.
I took Nick's intro to lit class and really enjoyed it. He's a nice guy and a fair grader; the feedback he gives you via email on the assignments you turn in is very balanced and helpful. I would definitely recommend taking one of his classes.
Nick is overall an okay teacher. I like that he only requires one book- Quick Access, and everything else is printed, but it is a lot to print sometimes. Nick also makes online assignments due outside the days classes are and that is difficult to remember. Also use the bathroom before his class, he doesnt give breaks.
Fantastic Teacher! Highly Recommend. Great at giving clear constructive suggestions. Very funny and personable, which allowed for some breathing room. Great structure in teaching, not all over the place leaving you clueless as to what is going on. Absolutely enjoyed my experience :) ...and I don't even like writing!
My favorite class of the term! The teacher was helpful and he explained things in a way that anybody could understand. I also liked the use of the different articles to bring our attention to a new way of writing! Recommend this teacher to everyone!
I've had Nick in a different writing class and he is a GREAT teacher. He gives projects out with no questions left to ask, he is very funny, and a teacher that actually seems like he listens to the students. I highly suggest him for WR115, WR121, and !!R122
He is a great professor who is helpful and teaches in a way that anyone could understand.
Nick is a good teacher in my opinion. He explains the assignments he gives and expresses that he is always free if we need to further instructions. Willing to preview papers and gives suggestions before they are due. The assignments aren't extremely hard but not entirely easy either. Always willing to give feedback and help with papers.
Outstanding instructor! Sits with the class and participates with students in discussions of topics and assigned readings. Good sense of humor and is so good at his job, he even made Nathaniel Hawthorne seem interesting!
Nick is a great teacher, he does not require a textbook for his classes which is great, all of his assignments are super crystal clear and he almost always makes the time to answer any of your questions and has gone out of his way to help me succeed in his class. He definitely deserves a chili pepper. Great teacher!
Nick was very helpful. He was always willing to go over assignments before they were due to make corrections. Assignments were very clear. No text book required, but there was alot of printing articles required.
Very helpful and unique teacher. Good at helping with essays and genuinely cares about the student's well-being. No text book, which helps financially. Doesn't like cats.
Awesome teacher!
Nick kind clear & helpful, an amazing teacher! He genuinely cares about his students and is willing to sit down & talk with you. Visit him in his office!Speak up in class it's discussion based, with the reading of many articles and analyzing the writers technique. Assignments are clear and easy to understand, and he allows one late without penalty.
Great teacher super helpful and dang he is hot. Cats are not his thing but he more than makes up that with his humor. He is like a ninja teacher, you don't even realize how much you're learning until you sit down to write a paper and are like dang this just falls right into place with what we talked about in class. Lots of printing but no text book
He was one of my favorite teachers i have had, and as long as you do the reading then the class is awesome.
One of my favorite instructors at PCC. First of all, he is a nice, funny, and enjoyable person who creates a great learning environment. His course was also really engaging with a totally fair and doable workload. You'll have fun and learn a lot. I really recommend this professor you won't regret taking him. Also you don't have to books!
I can honestly say that this teacher has very high credentials and very skilled in the art of teaching. A wise teacher always finds a way to improve, and he is very diligent in making sure all students give him feedback. His writing class was not hard, but not easy; In fact, that is why I learned so much.He is definitely a 5 star teacher.
Nick is absolutely amazing. I took two of his classes last quarter and redid my schedule to take another this quarter. He's extremely helpful and is more than willing to go over your paper several times with you to make sure you do the best you can. Absolutely the best instructor I've ever had.
Best writing teacher EVER.
I took this class for the credits and was not into it, but Nick is one of the greatest teacher's I've ever had. He kept everyone engaged and everyone loved it. He also refreshed my love of reading. So glad I took this class, super fun for an elective and not too much work!
I don't know what I would do without Nick. I learned a lot about my capabilities as a writer. He also helped me adjust to college life. He give great feedback on assignments and expectations at a college level. He also helped me by just checking in with me personally to make sure I wasn't overwhelmed. Great sense of humor and overall nice dude.
His classes are very entertaining,a gracious grader and caring instructor!I encourage everyone to take ENG 237(Working Class Lit).Light homework,& captivating discussions! I'll be thinking about the questions raised in this course long after the term!Even if you usually find English boring, this course is so multidimensional it will appeal to all.
Good class, and a great guy.
I could write endless compliments about Nick as an instructor and about his classes. I will just say, take every class that he offers,if possible--- especially the Literature courses. I just took American Working Class Literature and it is the best course I've taken at PCC. American Literature to 1865 was good, too. Very intelligent and helpful
Hey! you. yea.. YOU! don't hesitate, just register for his class, already. He's the BEST teacher ever, I promise. He is passionate about teaching all his students and making sure they succeed. You will enjoy his class and you're going to want to take another of his courses. He's just amazing Take his class!
Great guy, open to working with students if they need help (schedule, family issues, etc).I'd take his class again in a heartbeat, but I moved cross-country. :(
He is a sweet heart, he looks like a hipster from the streets of Portland. He uses cuss words, but it is funny when he uses them. All you have to do in read the short stories and be prepared to talk about it. It's like a book club. The class is student driven, so a lot of in-class discussion. Part of the grade is participation, so don't be shy. A+
Nick is a great teacher. He uses student-led discussions in class and makes sure that everyone participates. He is really nice, and gives excellent writing feedback. He is helpful and gets back to emails really quickly. There is no textbook, but you do have to read essays out of a packet weekly. I highly reccommend this course.
Nick is composed, discerning, and fair-minded. He engages students in critical thinking and encourages class discussion. His teaching criteria focuses on helping students develop specific, contestable claims in their writing, and how to connect with an academic and a popular audience. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to become a writer.
Nick wields sarcastic wit like a Jedi wields his lightsaber. I only wish this master of literature could teach all my classes. He will make you work for that A and class discussions/participation are the main part of class so if you are shy get over it and take his classes. My only complaint is he doesn't teach all of my classes.
Nick is an amazing teacher. He is passionate about writing. Must be willing to participate in class discussions, as this is the focus of how he teaches. He is a tough grader. But willing to help and makes sure he is available to his students to help. You have to be willing do work and make to do readings and write and be open to revising.
Awesome Teacher! You have to be willing to hear at least 1 swear word each class but other than that, this class is worth taking.
Nick is an extremely talented teacher. He presented a wide variety of material, varied the class work, and made the class very interesting and enjoyable overall. I have attended two of Nicks classes, WR122 and now ENG237, and would recommend taking any class he teaches.
Pushes your skills. Funny, &creates an interactive class. Intriguing readings &workshops. You pick a topic and stick with it all term. Varied assignments on said topic, all leading to solidify your final paper (worth 35%). I did everything last minute &still got a few As, but writing is easy for me. Others in class weren't as able even with effort.
This class is a researched based class, different from many of the other WR 122 classes because of the fact that you need to pick a topic and stick with that topic throughout the term. Very different form of teaching, but at the same time implementing great ideas and strategies on how to do research. Overall, this class was amazing.
He is very funny and very easy going, but it is college so he will treat it as such a class. I went into his class not knowing how to write, and now can write a range of papers successfully. If that isn't enough to describe his teaching, then I dont know what is. BUT **Disclaimer** you have to work for it. Like anything in life it takes hard work.
A truly brilliant teacher, Nick is as witty and engaging as they come. He really wants you to succeed, and is passionate about his subject. This course is very discussion-oriented; speaking up in class is mandatory. There's no textbook required. Getting an A is difficult (I barely scraped by, and I'm a decent writer), but his grading is fair.
Nick is an amazing prof. He gives great feedback for your work and is willing to help you out when you need it. There were 5 essays total & all except 1 had to do with college. No book-he created a packet of readings. Participation is a must as is attendance. He is quite funny, lectures are great, and he definitely cares about his students.
Nick loves his students, and is an excellent educator. He can take the discussion anywhere it needs even when it's obviously off his notes. Definitely take him if you're interested in research or education, and expect to learn critical thinking and community involvement along with excellent writing.
Good teacher, but doesn't use rubrics in his class, which bugged the hell out of me.
Once again has not failed to teach me how to write. He really breaks apart the whole researching and writing process in WR 122 and makes it easy to understand. If you want to pass though, I would suggest not starting your 7 page paper the week that it is due! Definitely recommend to those who struggle with writing (BUT YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT!)
Nick is the teacher I wish I had in all of my high school literature courses. He makes the class really fun and does a good job at explaining why he made you read certain stories and book. The way he does this, though, is by having open class discussions where the students basically teach each other. The books he assigns may be profane.
Great teacher! Attitude really makes you want to succeed in his class. If you need help with ANYTHING writing related, he's more than willing to help. By no means an easy class. Make sure you find a topic you really enjoy because you will spend all term writing about it. Overall, great class and a fantastic teacher! Will definitely take again.
I've taken two classes from Nick, and I highly recommend him. He honestly wants to help everyone to be the best writers they can be, or to understand the class material to the best of their ability. He makes himself available to meet with his students any time they need it, which is incredibly helpful.
Nick is definitely one of the best teachers I've had. If you are having problems with something, all you have to do is ask him for help and he'll take as much time as possible with you. For the class, you really just need to read the essays assigned and turn your papers in on time to pass!
Nick is hilarious. He is an amazing professor. I took him for my first class in college ever and was not disappointed. His papers are reasonable for a writing 121 course. I wish I could have taken him again but I wasn't able too. He's a great man, very inspirational.
Nick is a fun and helpful professor. There is a lot of discussion and small group work in class, hardly any lecturing. He tries to do as much as he can to make the class engaging and informative, and is a fair and honest grader. Gives a lot of feedback. There are 5 essays total and he helps you through them, just ask for help if you need it.
Nick is funny, smart, and extremely helpful. You don't have to worry about being a "bad" writer or anything like that. Nick is always willing to personally meet with you to discuss your skills, your writing, and to help you pull your ideas into paper in the most effective and crystal-clear way possible. You will not be disappointed.
Nick is one of the best teacher I've ever had. He is hilarious and so down to earth that it's so easy to approach him. I feel that I've learned a lot and it's thanks to his great teaching skills. He gives amazing feed back and if you ever feel stuck with an assignment don't hesitate to ask him. The class is demanding but not hard at all.
Nick is super helpful! I had him for WR121 and WR122 and if you have the opportunity to take his class, you definitely should. He is a tough grade, but you learn a lot! Even people who have never taken his class rave to me about all they have heard. He really pushes you out of your comfort zone to be the best writer you can be.
Nick is an awesome dude. He REALLY wants you to succeed. That being said, it's no walk in the park. He makes sure you realize your potential, even if it's buried. There's a LOT of assignments, but they're all very important, so pay attention.
Awesome teacher. Very insightful, gives lots of feedback. Wants to help you learn in anyway possible. Helps you become a better writer on your own, instead of forcing rules.
I didn't need WRI 121, but I'm glad I took it. Nick is the best kind of educator. His teaching style is based on feedback. It's challenging, but you will learn how to write surprisingly well in 10 weeks. Participation is huge. His wit and approachable personality means you're never uncomfortable. Take his class if you can get a spot.
This class may have been a bit challenging, I had a lot of fun. While Nick is a tough grader, I have become such a better writer this term than ever before. Looking back, it was a lot of fun, I have learned a lot, and Nick always shares cat photos so that's really the main reason why you should take a class from Nick.
Nick is a great professor. Most of class is spent doing in-depth discussions both with the entire class and in small groups. He is hilarious making the class a lot of fun and gives very helpful specific feedback. Also, if you ever need help he is always one scheduled meeting or email away. He is a must if you are taking Writing 121!
Nick is a seriously funny professor, but he's also focused in the way he runs the group conversations. I found my academic writing really improved with his help, even if he was pretty tough when grading. The key to taking his class is applying yourself, so if you need an easy A type environment, look elsewhere. Otherwise, he's great!
Super funny guy who creates a really open and interesting learning environment! There were no tests/midterms/quizzes, which is super ideal. All the readings he chose for this class were compiled so you don't have to sell your kidney to buy a textbook. You can tell he knows what he's talking about and is passionate about the work that he does.
Hands down one of the best professors at PCC. The entire semester we worked on different elements of a 7 page research paper. I feel like Dr. Fox really pushed me to become a better writer. This is NOT an easy A, I had to work really hard to get a 90.1%. I would recommend him to anybody. He's really funny and dresses like a hipster which is chill
Nick is the best! He can be tough, but he is 100% there for you with help. He gives good readings (that you can print rather than pay for!) and is always insightful on the topics covered in the class. Be prepared to work for your grade, including participation. He's also quite hilarious and always gives helpful feedback to better you as a writer.
Nick is an amazing teacher who knows what he's talking about. He's frequently available outside of class for any/all questions. The class is textbook-less, but there's a class packet full of compelling works. Also, he doesn't stick to typical genres of lit. and we explore songs & movies as well. Be prepared to read stuff and talk about it.
Nick is like the Bob Ross of teaching. You think oh crap, what is he doing? But when you go along in class, you find out everything lines up like God rose upon you. Overall fun and definitely would take his class again.
Very good feedback, very easy to get a good grade even if you don't have a talent for writing. He will review and give you feedback on entire papers before they are due via either his office hours or email. Highly recommended ++
Nick is now my favorite teacher ever. He was hilarious and always made class fun, it was not boring. I have never liked writing but his assignments made me like what I was doing, and his feedback was always thorough and useful. His class made me love being back in school. Just always finish the work on time and participate in all class discussions
Nick is an amazing professor. He's funny and knows the subject well. He gives comments AND 1-3 paragraphs of feedback on essays, which is amazing. He pushes you to do your best and is very helpful. However his expectations aren't always clear. 10/10 would take again.
Nick is awesome. Ive taken him for 1 year now and I wish I could keep taking his classes! Hes super funny and has a really great style of teaching. He doesnt lecture for 2 hours straight- he opens the class up for discussion and lets everyone share their perspectives. He definitely adapts the class in such a way to make it interesting for us!
WR180 is the WC tutoring class. 1 credit, and the work feels balanced for 1 credit. Nick is extremely smart, and it shows in the weekly group discussions that the class is based around. We would read something and then come to class to discuss it, shadow tutors or do mock tutoring with one another. Very helpful in learning tutoring.
Much like others have said, Nick is truly an amazing professor. He graded based on completion of assignments, not based on how much he personally liked your writing. The readings we were assigned were actually really interesting and relevant, and he has a clear passion for teaching writing. Definitely recommend!
Nick is a great professor. He's laid back & friendly but you'll still learn a lot in his class. I took his Lit of Social Protest class, & there was a lot of reading but otherwise it was a super chill class that was mostly discussion based. He cares a lot about his students & makes his class interesting while not being too stressful.
Great teacher and super easy to get along with. Fun topics of discussion, along with solid course schedule. Learned a lot and would definitely recommend him! :)
I have taken Nick for 2 classes now and if I can find space to take him a 3rd time, I definitely will. Nick classes really enjoyable and relaxed and always open for discussion. I have never had an interaction with him where I felt he was not there to make sure I was improving and growing. Probably the most I have learned from any writing teacher.
Nick really cares about his job and students and it shows. This class is not an easy A but, with a little work, you can get it no problem. I really enjoyed being his student
Dr. Hengen Fox was a great professor who had clear expectations and worked with the students to earn the grade they wanted. I liked that his class took a different approach to writing. He didn't have us write a ton or essays, but he wanted to see critical thought. He was very helpful, clear, and adaptive to each student's level.
Probably one of the best professors you could have, especially during the pandemic. You can tell he actually cares about what he teaches and about his students and helping them do well in the class.
I struggled with this course due to my own mental health problems, but Nick was supremely understanding and ultimately I got enough of the required work in to secure a passing grade. The in class discussions were lively and enlightening for anyone looking to gain a greater understanding of working class issues through the lens of lireterature.
Nick is a super awesome professor! You confused bout something you're working on? ASK NICK! You need help coming up with a thesis statement/ topic? ASK NICK! Wanna talk about if apple or cherry pie is better? ASK NICK! Although there are about 4 essays total to write in his WR121 class, he makes it seem like it's lightwork, even if you hate essays!
Nick was my favorite professor this term! We read meaningful articles and got to explore different genres of writing. If you have any questions at all ask Nick! He wants his students to succeed, very lenient, fast at responding and gives great feedback.
Overall, Nick has a clear grading criterion, is very organized, and gives detailed feedback. Additionally, he requires three essays with smaller assignments in between in a way that doesn't overwhelm you. He also isn't a strict type of teacher that makes you dread coming to each class. It just matters if you are willing to work for the grade.
Nick was a fun professor, his WR121 class was pretty easy, you only need to write 4 essays, only one of which was difficult. Class attendance was not required, unless you want an A, for which you need to participate at least three times in the class or do three other activities. It is a pretty easy class, and Nick is a great professor.
So far I haven't been bored or lacking inspiration or motivation in Nick's class meetings or in general. His teaching style is relax yet he covers a lot of quality content. Topics for essays are interesting and relevant. He shows close attention to detail and his feedback is useful and thoughtful. I think he honestly cares for his students.
this was one of my first university classes and I can't deny that before starting I was a little nervous, I knew that this would be a totally different challenge but in this class I felt very comfortable, the teacher made me have more confidence in myself, he supported me outside of class to clarify my doubts. Nice person. Highly recommended class
Professor Hengen is a cool professor. He's very interactive with his students and willing to help you get the grade you want in class. There is a lot of reading in his class, but it's not endless pages. I'd recommend this class to anyone who wants to continue to improve their writing styles.
This professor does a great job of accommodating students from all different backgrounds and teaching writing in an accessible ways. This class involves simple readings, and occasionally online discussions. Very easy course with critical thinking and he embraces creativity in his students.
I really enjoy having Nick as my English teacher. He works at exactly the right pace for me to succeed. All the assignments are placed out in very manageable time frames, and he makes sure everything is understood. I have worked one on one with Nick in the past and he is always very helpful on zoom calls as well as in person. He really cares!
Take writing 121 with Nick! Class is extremely well put together. Instructions for assignments are clear and assignments are interesting. Will make you a better writer. Contract grading so no question about what grade you will receive. Kind and understanding. Will work with you to help you to have the best experience possible.
Clear grading criteria for the term and it is really easy to follow. Provided really good feedback and helped to improve my overall skills in writing. Great professor who is caring, understanding and respectful. Quick responses on email. Do the work and follow through with it, you will pass. Would definitely recommend.
Nick is a great communicator, mentor, and facilitator. Being an English course, there're weekly readings, but nothing very long or challenging. Many of the texts he assigned have become my favorites. He also gives extremely thoughtful, prompt feedback on everything you turn in. He's also just kinda cool. Take his class!
It's only 4 weeks into my writing class with Nick, but so far it's very refreshing compared to other writing classes I've taken. The assignments are creative, and the class discussions are informational. There is a fair amount of work assigned, but it's manageable. The grading is pass/ no pass, which puts more focus on the amount of effort put in.
To start, I am four weeks into my first college class, and I have to say I am happy with this class so far. He has a clear set of guidelines for each assignment, is friendly and very willing to help students outside of class, and a contract grading system that essentially states that as long as you complete something, it will be counted.
As someone who's always struggled with writing, I was surprised when I wasn't overwhelmed by this class. Nick creates a comfortable and enjoyable environment for his students. He makes things clear and easy to understand, and the essays you turn in are graded, complete/incomplete. I'd say I am much more confident in my writing abilities now. 10/10
Nick is an amazing professor. By day 1 you can tell that he really cares about each of his students, and that he is going to do whatever he can to help you get an A. He has an amazing Syllabus that clearly and specifically defines the requirements for each grade, as well as each of the specific assignments (which can be hard, but he grades well).
Dr. Nick Hengen fox is an amazing professor. He wants every student of his to succeed in his class. He has a clear and very detailed syllabus and you know exactly what to expect from his class when you read it. He does his grading a little differently than most but I think his grading is very fair and straightforward. 4 essays, & discussion posts.
Dr. Nick Hengen Fox is a great professor. He makes the plan for the course of the term clear through the syllabus and answers any questions very well. The class is heavily discussion based and he always tries to get as many people's perspectives as possible in these discussions. His grading system is different but not hard too figure out.
Nick is a wonderful teacher. He's engaging in class, and his D2L content is organized, always easy to find what I'm looking for. He uses a grading contract, love it. The way he teaches is like a conversation, you learn a lot and feel like equals. He's great at creating a sense of community in his classes and making sure everyone has a voice.
This was such a fun writing class to take and I feel that my writing has definitely improved! We read really interesting pieces for the class, got to choose subjects we were interested in, and the guidelines and steps needed in order to get an A in the class were crystal clear and easy to accomplish. I highly recommend taking his class!
Really loved taking this class with Nick, he's funny and super smart and has a lot of respect for his students, I learned a lot from him and he keeps class discussions super open and free flowing so you also have the opportunity to learn from your peers. He gives great feedback and seems genuinely interested in what his students have to say.
Nick is a wonderful teacher who really cares about his students. His classes are like a conversation, from day one he is approachable and engaging, and creates a welcoming environment in his classroom. He's kind and understanding, and uses a labor-based grading system which is easy to follow and means that learning is the focus.
I liked Nick as my first professor at PCC. He helped me transition from high school to college. He clearly explains that you don't need to do everything unless you want an A. Classes were good; he's very cool, albeit strict. Overall a difficult class but I enjoyed my experience.
Very helpful when students are confused, and does his best to communicate with everyone. If there is anything to complain about, it's that he's too nice, even when someone doesn't deserve it. Very chill and good to work with.
This was my first college class and i was delighted to have this teacher. Collage always sounded ruthless and hard but Nick made it a fun learning experience. He is patient and cares about his students. My favorite part about his class is his funny/witty remarks that would make the class laugh. 10/10 teacher, would learn from him again.
I'm still taking this class and I'm enjoying it! This class is required but that doesn't mean it's full of work day in and day out, it's very easy to focus as well as having group and class discussions. The professor is amazing with feedback and is very quick to help as well. No stress at all and he is very passionate about his work and students!
This is a required class for me to take. Nick has been very straight forward on what needs to be done in class and in assignments. He makes the class fun for everyone else as well as making group discussions brainstorm by checking in on groups, hearing ideas and giving feedback. I feel that it's easy to share your ideas in this class.
Nick was one of my first professors I had not only at PCC but at college in general and man what an introduction. Once you step into his class you just know you're in good hands from the way he presents himself to you and others as well. Overall a really cool Professor and class, if i were to rate this class in Fortnite terms its a golden pump.
I have loved having Nick as one of my english teachers this year! He has a great way of laying out grading and is very good about communicating how to get the grade you want. He has his criteria for each grade very clearly presented out during one of the first classes which is much appreciated for planning and organization.
Having Nick as my college writing professor has reminded me of a English teacher I had back in the beginning of high school which I really like. He is flexible, gives great feedback and has good communication. He states his way of grading and follows through in a straight forward manner, but still gives room of judgement and late work.
Nick was one of my first professors I had not only at PCC but at college in general and man what an introduction. The class was a very welcoming space from not only Nick having us do healthy discussions with each other but also making the lecture fun and interesting. Plus the grading system is fair and gives you more space to focus on learning.
As a writing professor in my opinion Nick is the best. Assignments are easy to follow and no matter how many questions or how much help I need, I'm not afraid to ask Nick. He is very easy to talk to and he helps me understand things more clearly when it comes to our assignments.
Had him for Intro to Literature, most of the readings were online but we did have to read "There There" but you can easily find it online. Nick is very sweet and funny. If you do the work, and show that you put effort into your work you will get an A.
Nick has been a very helpful writing instructor. The workload as of this writing course has been manageable, but comprehensive. There is a lot of support given, as well as constructive feedback, and the classroom environment is fairly casual in nature. Even though this is an online/remote course, it feels very social and friendly.
I expected my first remote class to be more formal, but Nick's is more casual. He values participation in the zooms, and collaborating with classmates, but there 's less pressure to be talkative/involved everyday. The class is relaxed, and Nick welcomes my ideas and gives helpful feedback. The due dates are flexible & no textbook requirement.
Nick is an incredible professor. He advocated for a communal approach, that we all take the space we need to talk about our experiences surrounding the topics we were reading about. Grading was a discussion between he and the student. I said I earned a B and he said "I actually think you've earned an A". Would absolutely take his classes again.
Nick is an incredible professor. I was very lucky and got to take his class this term and throughly enjoyed it. The way he teaches it takes into account your voice and he teaches the class to help you find and express that voice. I feel much more confident in my writing skills, and if you are able to, take any of his classes!
I highly suggest if you have the opportunity that you take a class with Nick. He is a very thoughtful, caring and intelligent instructor. He cares about his students, and is very clear about class/assignment expectations. If you have any struggles in your writing or personal life, he wants to work with you through it and see you succeed!
This was my first writing class at PCC. Thought provoking class, many question based discussions that challenged my preconceived notions about writing as a whole. Clear grading policy, actively supports students in passing the class. Both gives and receives feedback. Very enjoyable, thought provoking class with a clearly outlined path to success.😎
Nick is a very kind and helpful instructor! Classes are very discussion-based, with a lot of group work. Time is given to talk in groups, but sometimes not enough time to be able to process the questions given and express every idea. The grading process is very thoroughly outlined. Every project is given constructive feedback as well.
I have really enjoyed Nick's class so far! He fosters an environment conducive to class participation, with a jovial attitude the whole time. The work thus far has been focused on externalizing one's habits and actually thinking about what you're doing critically. I'm learning a lot, and if you like to be vocal in class, you will have a great time!
Nick is a wonderful teacher and I am glad to have got him for IRW115. He is willing to help if you ask for the help and really cares about his students. His class is easy, show up, do the class work and homework and you can easily get an A. He also does everything he can to help you achieve your target grade. I'm hoping to get Nick for WR121.
Nick hengens class is easy and is willing to help if requested. His teaching style is great and straight to the point. he will always give you feedback if requested. The grading system makes it very hard to get below the grade you asked for. Overall Nick is a good professor and if you are taking 121 this is the class you want to be in.
Nick is an awesome teacher. He is always there to help you, you just need to ask for help. The class is easy, show up, do your work and turn in your assignments nearly all the time and it's easy to earn an A in his class. Nick is always there for you and means well with his students.
Nick has a very outgoing personality and teaching skill. He makes class fun to come to even tho writing is my least favorite subject
Nick's class had great energy, and he made sure it was an inclusive space and communicated the projects and what we were going to do in his class clearly. The workload was manageable, but not so little that I had nothing to do on the weekend, and the class often had readings outside of class, and was clear on how to earn an A, B,or C in his class.
This class has been really fun so far. Nick Hengen gives a lot of useful information on class work and projects. I like the fact that he takes the time to check in on his students individually. Nick keeps things real and doesn't sugarcoat certain topics. I think the fact that he is an open-minded teacher, creates a good atmosphere for the class.
I truly enjoyed this class. He genuinely cares about the success of his students, making sure that we have a good grasp and understanding of the workload and assignments. The work is easy to understand and get done. He makes it more than possible to get that A. It's really not a difficult class. You just have to do the work, and you'll be fine.
Chill and professional. Shares outline of work to be done. Offers several opportunities to seek help if needed, earn the grade you want, and clearly understand concepts and assignments. He wants his students to succeed.
if you are going to take WR 121 I recommend Nick! best professor. Many ways to get an A and keep a high grade and clear instructions. very caring for his students and has such a fun humor. lots recourses and help from him. I would take this class again :)
Excellent professor and high-quality teaching. Challenges you to be better every week, plus, they understand how to guide each individual. Participate in class, stay on top of your homework and connect with them outside of class and you'll be golden. Honestly, one of the best experiences I've had as a student.
