New teacher, but he knows his stuff and catches on fast.
A boring class, but an Easy A!
This guy gives REALLY boring lectures. He has issues with control and his grading system reflects personal opinion, rather than quality of work...very unprofessional. He gives poor advice that guides you towards losing grades. He has terrible interpersonal skills.Don't waste your $$$ on the units.AVOID!
bad experience---YUCK!!!
This guy is really funny. He knows his stuff.
Don't take this guy!He took a class that could have been really, really fun and made it boring and miserable! :(
Exceeded my expectations. The people who say bad things about him are just lazy mofos who didn't do the assignments.
It would be difficult for an individual to consider this Teacher in any way, shall we say... competent. His style of teaching is antiquated, and his futile attempts at humor are poor. Wasted our time!
You'll learn more on your own than taking this teacher.
yuck!
Knows his stuff. Always available to answer any questions whenever needed.
Does a really great job at teaching nothing...lectures? WHAT LECTURES?! I think this guy just randomly pulls grades out of the sky and puts them on your transcript! Thumbs down!!!
Excellent experience! Thanks!
It's an easy class, you only have to show up every couple weeks. And if you do your assignments on time you won't have any trouble. The only thing is he doesn't take late assignments, which sucks.
He needs to ease up on the "no late assignments" rule. If it's turned in by the end of class it shouldn't be a problem! I turned in an assignment about 10 minutes late and he gave a 0, (****).
Gives random grades, no interest in students, lets his personal feelings influence his teaching. If he doesn't like you, he'll take it out on your GPA...pretty bad
This guy is really nice and the class is easy as long as you participate and do the reading. Just make sure you don't miss class on the day of exams or he'll fail you.
Tough class, but he's fair so just do the work.
Easy class. If you do the reasding your fine. Make sure you know how to write an Essay before you take this class, the whole class is based on essay writing. Its easy, just go to class.
All of the exams are essay based. All of the quizzes are one question quizzes. Just do his work, ace the tests, and do your homework, participate A LOT in class and you'll get an A. He is really clear in what he wants and that itself should get you an A. Just do them.
Needs to get a backbone. Often a student will give a response and all he can answer with is "Mhmm, ah, yes interesting" WTF? That doesn't tell me what you're thinking...you're the teacher...say something don't mhmm...Easy A in the world. Just speak up once in awhile to avoid getting the B or C he says you will if you don't participate.
easy class, easy "A." as long as you can back up what you say, and cite from the reader you will ace every test. also make sure you participate (positivly) in class and do take home assignments
Awesome guy. He's on the younger side as far as teachers go, so he can relate with his students more easily :)
Easy class. Just participate and do the reading, and you should do fine. Everything is essay based and you need to have the book for some of them.
Easy grader as long as you do the work and show up. He wants you to contribute to his little discussions too.
EASY A...all his tests and quizzes are based on opinon, and critical thinking!! All we ever did was share opinions, ideas etc we watch movies and it can be a fun class when you have people who enjoy sharing their opinions too!! A MUST IF YOUR OUTGOING because you get insane extra points for sharing with the class!!!
The final took forever to finish but the class was fun and you learn a lot about the various aspects of the media and its portrayal of women, men, minorities, etc. Pernisco is really nice and young. It was like he was apart of the class, not the professor. Class is definately recommended!
Loved this class, it's VERY interesting, you get to watch TV and Movie clips a lot, and there's not a lot of work; however, you do need to make sure you participate and at least skim through the reading, he likes pop quizzes. Tests are easy as well, essay - somewhat - opinion tests. He's a really nice guy too.
A young guy who really relates to his students. A lot of writing!!!
Writing, writing, and more writing. You have to keep a 10-20pg diversity media log. There are 4 exams that you have to write around 1-2pg each. Then the midterm and final that are both around 2-3pg of writing. Not to mention the pop quizzes and boring material. If you have to take Comm 10, I'd take it with him. But I'd avoid it otherwise.
I TOOK HER DURING WINTER SEMESTER AND I MUST SAY HE'S VERY INTELLIGENT, EXPECTS ALL THE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE, RESPECT EACH ONE'S OPINION AND SO MUCH MORE. I DIDN'T THINK I WAS GOING TO LIKE THIS CLASS AT FIRST, BUT IT GOT INTERESTING AS TIME WENT BY AND I LEARNED ALOT! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
Took for Comm 10, slightly different (less about race/gender) w/a greater amt of analzying effects of media in general. he doesn't ask for more work than you can put in. Took during winter- quick easy take home assignments, 1 question pop quizzes ( you could always predict when they are going to happen if you pay attn to the rdng) a midterm/final
such a great teacher who really does care about his students! He wants his students to learn and he really does open up different perspectives of the media. Tests are easy they're most likely essays but you get to give your opinion and you also get to watch clips and films which is fun~ there are pop quizes so simply reading the material will let
GREAT professor. Very kind, considerate and respectful towards people's opinions. You rely heavily on the reader, and you need to participate a lot, but its pretty easy stuff. He is very passionate about the media. He gives everyone chances to speak. Quizzes and exams are easy if you read the material assigned every week. I highly recommend him!
Really Fun class. Participate and do the homework. Easy A.
He is such a great teacher, has a great funny personality with out even trying.
very good teacher! down to earth and very dedicated to his students. take him you wont regret it!
I recommend the class to people who take the class only because they have to. It's an easy class if you read the book. For others, those interested in learning more about the media world, not recommended. You won't learn much, his lectures are boring, and you can find all in the book. Take Prof. Gougis instead. He rocks!
Very laid back prof. Class is mostly based on class discussions/exams. He engages students in discussions, pertinent to media and race. Exams are solid easy, comprised of opinionated essays. O yea...he's empathetic to a students struggle, so if you feel the need to discuss some personal issues let him know. He cares!
Pernisco is cool, and the class is cool too. The only thing that sucks is when you choose your times for your weekly one hour radio show, everyone picks the same time slot. And they dont have a good process of givingh the times out. They should see who has a busier schedule and draw names in front of everybody, thats the only fair way.I dropped!
This is a fun class. You are basically on your own to work on projects, but you can get help when you need it. Having a radio show is optional, but it is a great part of the class for those who are interested. The instructor is supportive and knowledgeable.
Great teacher and gets the whole class involved. His material is interesting and eye opening. Easy to get an A if you participate and do all of the assignments.
Awesome teacher! (comm 10) if you do the blogs and participate you will pass! had a great time and learned allot in his class. Oh and he is a very cute teacher!
Seems to really care about the students.
Funny guy. You need to show up and do the reading. He's really fair in grading and tries to get you involved in the class.
Very friendly and easy going. Most of the tests are open book. Just make sure to show up on time or he marks you late!
Great teacher! Very helpful! Explains everything you need and if you don't understand something he will explain to you! I got a B+ very easy with almost no effort!
useless... It's so funny that how instructors become "Professor" in the U.S. education is such a joke here...
This class is okay. There's a bit of busy work every week but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. He gave us one extra credit assignment and a 750 word article. There is no book required. Sadly he doesn't give you any study guide for the 2 exams so they can be quite difficult. Would recommend if communicatiosn is your major.
Great professor. This is not a hard class. All you have to do is read the reading and do the discussion, and assignment weekly, forum weekly, 2 exams, and a essay. I recommend this class!!!!
The class is not difficult if you do the reading & write well-thought out posts. If you want to pass the exams read the book. It's short, has good points, and the kindle version is inexpensive. Also, as soon as I emailed him, I always received a quick response. I spent 6 hours per week doing the reading & writing for well-thought out posts.
Took this class online and it was pretty easy. It requires a lot of reading and writing so be prepared to spend at least 3 to 4 hours for studying. It's really easy to fall behind in the online course so always stay on top of your weekly assignments.
Was hesitant to take this online at first, but his clearly laid out directions make it easy to plan ahead at the beginning of each week. The discussions due Thur. night got a little annoying, but try to plan ahead. Do the work, put in the effort, and you can pass. Do whatever extra credit he gives you and communicate with him, he's really nice!!!
Professor Pernisco's Media 10 class is fairly easy. He gives 2 exams for the semester. The book if needed but you can do just fine without it. Make sure to stay on track with the DATES! Extra credit is offered.. Mr. Pernisco class is a great class to take to complete your Global Citizen requirement.
The class was easier than I thought. As long as you complet the work and turn it in on time, you automatically receive an A. I didn't purchase a book, and I was so glad because each unit has a summary of what the assignments were on. Each week consisted of one discussion, one assignment, and a free write of an article you'd find online. Super easy.
Took the online class... what a joke. This guy is like the non existent professor. No study guides for tests so you're left scrambling. Be prepared to be your own teacher. I wouldn't take a class taught by this guy again.
Professor Pernisco's online class was simple, but I actually learned a lot from it. A typical week consists of a media diary, a written assignment, and a discussion with two responses. He also assigns various texts to read every week, and I found most of them enjoyable. If you at least know the key terms, you can do well in the class.
While I didn't agree with all of his viewpoints on the course material, I still found him to be a knowledgeable professor. His book, "Practical Media Literacy" is a good read. Don't procrastinate on the assignments, though, because you get them in large chunks, or at least for the summer course because it's only 6 weeks long. Overall easy class.
Each week you have 3 assingments, which are all easy and I got 100% on every single one of them! Number one tip: Stay on top of the material and remember that discussions are due on Thursday night not Sunday. The Exams are okay, just be ready to look back in the readings and material. Overall, easy class that's worth taking.
Easy A. I put about an hour and a half of work into it every week and got a 98. Weekly discussion post, short assignment, and a media journal (you can write about literally anything you see in the media and he'll give you 100) and that's it. Midterm/Final writing assignments are super easy and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even read them
Prof Nick is the most amazing and supportive teacher. He make sure you know everything that you suppose to know for the class. Interesting topic over the course. Extra credits for your grade boosting. over all he is a go professor !!!
He is a kind Professor who loves what he does. The textbook is a little sketch b/c he wrote it and there are a lot of typos but still a good read. There are 3 assignments every week, a midterm, final, and easy essay. You just have to answer everything and he'll give you full credit. Easy A in my opinion. Just turn it on time and you'll be fine.
This class is organized and the material is easy to understand. You have to fill out a media journal every week (you can write about anything and he'll give full credit) with discussion posts/assignments. Make sure to read all the readings he provides and this class will be easy to pass. Also, the discussion posts are due on Thursdays, not Sundays.
easy A. summer course had a lot of hw but that a given. diary posts, discussion, and assignments. I don't even think he reads them, he just checks the word count. I have 100% in the class. He's so nice to take him if you need credit. midterm and final are essays
I usually don't leave negative online reviews, but literally this guy was probably the worst professor I've had in my entire academic career. He graded more so based on personal feelings towards projects/students than the assignment actually being completed and meeting the proper requirements. Anytime I talked to him he was smug and distant.
Each week follows the same format of assigned readings, discussion posts, assignments, and media diary. We were required to buy his book which I felt was not worth it (many grammar mistakes made it hard to read; barely used it) Other than that, it's a fairly easy class if you do the work. No quizzes/tests just midterm, final, and a research article
Very easy class. Reading and topics were interesting and relevant. If you follow word count instructions and turn work in on time, you'll get an A. He was kind of tough to get a reply from, but class was pretty self explanatory. Was a lot of writing, but nothing hard and he's an easy grader. Definitely recommend.
Materials were outdated and scans were often difficult to read. Some of the content should have contained content warnings based on traumatic topics. Didn't learn a ton but the professor is nice enough and it's pretty easy to get an A if you pay attention to due dates.
This is great class to take if you want to learn a little bit about everything in the media. You can write about anything you want the media diaries as long as it relates to well, the media. Its very easy to pass this class as long as you do the work and turn it in on time.
Easy class. Just do the reading each week and do the assignments and youll get an A.
Super easy class. Open book exams. Just read the weekly assigned texts and you'll easily get an A.
Honestly and truly I never ever leave reviews but Profesor Perniscos class was actually pretty fun. I took him fall semester and it was an easy A not too many assignments. Im very lazy and I got an A in this class. The work is clear not confusing at all. You will need the book. Trust me this is an easy A I would recommend
There is many assignments due every week but very easy and he is a not a tough grader.
Good professor and work is easy, however, its a lot of work to fit into a 6-week course. 6 assignments per week.
Way too many assignments, this class shouldn't be offered in winter/summer. The content is very interesting but the class is so poorly structured for 6 weeks that you don't have time to absorb the information. The class is structured around his own book which has a ton of typos in it and he would often cite the wrong page numbers for assignments.
Easy grader. One assignment, one media diary, and one discussion per week, one test at the very end. Easy A.
Professor Pernisco was approachable and friendly. In our emails he never made me feel like a nuisance. I was out for a week strep throat and he worked with me on turning in late work. Thank you!
Pernisco is a professor who cares about his students success. His assignments are relatively simple and actually kinda fun. I'm a broadcasting major, so this stuff really interested me, and the fact that he still work in the field means he is teaching up to date stuff. He also has good connections for internships.
I had to take this for my IGETC (bio major). I decided to take it in summer, six weeks to complete the wor of 16 weeks! The class was structured the best it couuld be under thse circumstnces. The teacher made it ineresting and now i'm done!
Good teacher. Listens to students.
Just finished his summer media 10 class. A lot of work, but he did a good job of organizing 16 weeks of material into 6 weeks. Dude is awesome. Easy breezy.
I'm a journalism major, so of course I enjoyed the material, but it was a lot of reading.. Luckily he's an easy grader.
Took Media 1 in the spring semester. Every week Nick assigns two discussion posts, two media diaries, and two written assignments. He doesn't accept late work but as long you finish your work you'll have a perfect grade. I enjoyed interacting with my classmates and spilling tea on my diaries ;)
Love his class so far, it is easy and instructions are easy to understand. As long as you keep up with his work you'll be okay, not much work to do anyway. It's usually three assignments a week and they really engaging and fun. Would take this professor again.
He was a great professor. His assignment were pretty fun and engaging (usually only three a week but they were short). Learned a lot about media. Would definitely recommend his class.
super duper straight foward - give him the 250 words he asks for and you get 100%. not stressful, easy to access outside class, very interesting too and I've learned a lot. take his class for sure! just don't submit assignments late, they are easy.
