professor is okay. you have to do alot of work... 2 papers, 2 exams and a presentation, not recommended if you want an easy A. Also alot of notes, and reading, so be prepared
This class is hard and prof is even worst. dont take him unless u want to do graduate level work
Very easy class. He tells you exactly whats going to be in the tests. His papers are very easy to do.
The best teacher of poli sci you can hope for in college. He's very interesting and discusses the class material and how it fits into todays politics. The tests are extremely fair, just do the reading and you get a 100. He is a very good person to talk to also. I recommend his class.
One of the best courses I ever took in college. Do the reading, show up and participate and you will do well. Prof Petaludis is helpful, has a great sense of humor and I think he is extremely handsome ;-)
The class really was not too hard. If you come to class, take notes (which can get boring at times), then you won't have a problem. You have two short presentations where u speak no more than 2 min and the midterm and final are given to u. not as much class discussions but a good class none the less.
professore neek is awesome! hes so clear and concise he gives straight forward lectures hes pretty much one of those professor that makes you want to learn
He is a really cool professor but the class seemed too dry to comprehend at times. Take em if you love Pol Sci. I found the class boring and DRY!
This Prof. is very unclear in terms of his lectures. There is a lot of work involved in his class from presentation to exams and one paper. The good thing about his class is that he gives a GREAT REVIEW before each exam. His way of lecturing can be confusing at times. ATTENDENCE is good for yourself cause there is a lot of note-taking involved.
I think he is a really cool guy although I do not like the way he teaches. He stutters too much and his tests can be tricky. The class seemed to drag and I don't think I learned much. It was just DRY. I wouldn't take him again and maybe its just me. If you like pol sci take him. Also participate it makes a difference in your grade. I got a B.
not a fan. only enrolled bc obradovic was supposed 2 teach it. no textbook, only tedious boring online readings based on opinions..hard 2 read them and if we dont he takes off points for poor participation. 1st test was good-essays but other 2 m.c. based on the readings and in class hes boring and tends to ramble and not make the impt points clear.
nice guy but the notes are a little vague and the tests are really tricky
He's a great professor. I cannot imagine why other students would feel differently. The textbook is easy to read and if you have the slightest common sense you will ace his exams. It is important to give respect by coming to class. You do that for a boss. I'm taking him again for Middle Eastern politics and I just can't wait to see him.
Pro. Petaludis is a great professor. If you read the text you'll know what to write on his essays, which he grades leaniently. He's very educated - not in a bookworm sort of way but truly well-rounded. And yes, he's hot.
Prof. Petaludis is the man! His tests are tricky-asks mult.choice qs in confusing ways; you must know the material to do well on tests. Hes happy to help you either in his office or via email.3 tests and one paper. he gave a few points on the first and last tests. contribute to class discussions, which he likes, and study and you'll do well
Prof. Petaludis is a nice guy. Has a conservative outlook on politics which is a nice change from the normal liberal view of most other professors. Alot of reading and note taking. Recomend you read but if tou fall behind you can get by on your notes. Take good notes, its crucial! Three exams tricky multilpe choice and one paper at the end.
Fair professor. Lectures arent that interesting but there isnt much you can do for intro courses, and that he is aware of. He understand that the material is pretty dry. Don't take an 8am class. Not so good. Do the readings, and take notes, and research the paper well. All should be fine then
Knowledgeable, well-rounded and interesting lectures. Prof. is open-minded to students' opinions, ideas. Concerned about students' progress. Enjoyable class overall. Lots of historical background, detail is necessarily taught here to highlight the current political situation. Take this Important, very current class. Very fair grader.
Professor Petaludis is the best teacher that you can ask for. He is fair, consice and you will leave his class with a better understanding of world politics. If you are looking for a professor that will challenge you, in a fair and balanced way, then he is it. Took three classes with him and got all A's. If you do the readings therer is no prob
This guy is a horrible professor. Stutters way too much to keep interest, extremely boring and runs class like he's still in the military. If you want to enjoy your college experience AT ALL do NOT take this guy, he'll ruin it for you. WARNING** BE AWARE OF WINTER CLASS!
He does run the class military style and is definitely conservative, but he doesn't mind if you want to debate with him which is cool. Took him winter and it was too much reading. If you have a life, you probably won't get an A. But all in all he's a smart and cultured person. Big-time lecturer so just be aware of that.
DO NOT TAKE HIM the notes are vague and the tests are really tricky -asks multiple choice questions in confusing ways ( you have to choose more than one answer ) based on the readings "Too much reading". I don't think I learned much. you probably won't get an A.
Class was more of a history class than a politics class. We dealt more with the history than anything else. A ton of reading each night which most of it was unnecessary. Tests were annoying and confusing. Wouldn't mind taking him again but would try to avoid.
he is a nice professor. cares about students about passing. but couldnt keep up with all the reading. wasnt familiar with the topic so hard to skim through readings. tests are difficult. multiple choice
This professor is nice, helpful. A lot of readings besides book. Test is little hard, confusing multiple choice. Cares about students getting good grades. I would recommend him.
Awesome professor for those who want to learn. If you are going to slack off then don't bother. You will not do well. Tons of reading but if you go to class and take notes you will ace the tests. Very cool. I missed a test because I was stuck in traffic and he let me take it at a later date in his office. Great professor.
Great professor. He gives tons of reading but they're not too dense to keep up with. I learned a lot and would certainly take another class of his. If you take one of his classes be prepared to read a lot!
This class is good for students who know the middle east history. Lots of reading & class notes. Tests are very difficult, questions are of high level. It is very difficult to get a c+ in this class. You learned alot but yet you cannot pass the class_ very sad, tuition is very high, make wise decisions my friends
Expect lots of reading but He puts them online so you save $$ money on books. The exams are multiple choice (60-85 qs) which are easy if you read and take good notes and he gives a study sheet so USE IT! One 5pg paper at the end of the course, no final. He's knowledgeable about the subject and is very helpful, all you have to do is ask him.
Amazing Professor and what is even better is that he doesnt make you buy a textbook and puts all the readings online To those who complain about the reading WELCOME TO COLLEGE no class you can just get by in Petaludis lectures are conversations and encourages participation and he doesnt just read slides Great professor im taking him again in '14
There is tons of readings for this class and his tricky tests are based on the readings. You have to know every small detail for the tests. Too many readings and material to cover and he is a hard grader. There is no textbooks, but he posts all the readings online, so you gotta read it, essential to passing. I would not recommend this class.
Professor Petaludis isn't a walk in the park, but as long as you do the readings the test shouldn't be a problem. His test are not difficult, but can be tricky. He also tends to curve the grade as well. Be sure to participate as he does place emphasis on participation.
Professor Petaludis' class is no walk in the park, but as long as you do the homework the test shouldn't be a problem. Make sure to read all the articles as he does count participation and notices who does and does not read the material.
LOVE this topic, super knowledgeable and took much away from this course. BUT, INSANE amounts of reading. If you are taking more than 2 other classes, forget it. Exams are extremely hard, after 8 hour work day having to take it at 930-10pm (not by choice) is not okay. Would def. not recommend if you work full time and or take other classes.
Prof Petaludis is an amazing professor! I enjoyed his class very much. Yes, there are a lot of readings but this is college so get over it! His tests are not hard but tricky. Attendance is necessary bc lecture material is not always duplicated with the readings. Take good notes, participate, and do the readings and you will walk away with an A!
Its a reading course online, so up to you to take everything in. He did provide audio lectures in addition to the assigned readings for more clarification, and outlines to help you break down the articles because some are extremely long!
You have to understand his mindset. If you can realize how he thinks, then you'll get an easy A. Don't read the every detail of the articles. he puts bullet points in his outlines. if you just take notes and read the outlines, you're ok. If you miss exam, you have to write 15 page paper. He's not easy, trust me you'll learn a lot. I got a B.
He provides all of the reading material but the are really long. There were 3 exams, all multiple choice and then there was a final 5pg essay based on the reading materials. Do the readings, participate and take good notes for the exams and you'll get an A. Overall great professor!
Petaludis is a fantastic teacher. His lecture style is conversational. He doesn't make you purchase a textbook; he sends out reading material via email. You need to read assigned material to pass the tests. If you do they're multi-choice & fairly easy. He's a pretty funny guy & is definitely very knowledgeableEnjoyed his classes & recommend 100%
lots of reading. If you miss the midterm, you have to write a 15-pages paper. I missed it unfortunately and had to write 15 pages. He gave me C- on that paper. I will never forget for that.
I'm taking the winter session for this course, online, three weeks, each week has an exam. The exams are fair. There is curve. Prof. gives out review before each exam. As an foreign student, to be honest, it's more like an English class. There are tons of materials to read, and lectures to listen, and the wording is so hard to understand.
Took him in the 4 week summer session. I had another class at the time of his tests so he accommodated me. Gave about 2 hrs of lectures each week. 3 tests all multiple choice/ true false. Take good notes on the lectures. listen to lectures and do readings that he puts on review sheet. you don't have to read everything to do well. Good choice for 4w
Probably the hardest thing I've ever done. He expects you to read most of the material online and the "lectures" that he does in class are completely different. You must know both in order to pass tests. Provides lecture outlines but very difficult to follow and wastes time in class(lets out students early). You will need to put in SERIOUS effort
My favorite professor!!!! Just keep up with the readings and you will do fine! Exams aren't too bad. Not an easy A but it is possible if you actually do the work!! And he's very kind and easy to talk to! you can tell he's passionate about teaching and the material he teaches!
get ready to read a lot and be tested on the readings. the reading is a lot but it's interesting and not to difficult to understand. lectures often are about the readings due or past readings if you're behind. test is about both readings and lectures. he's and awesome guy and if you put in the work you'll be rewarded
He encourages students to complete the reading. The reading themselves can be difficult (usually they aren't) but he will always go over them in class. He also provides course outlines. All of his tests are multiple choice, and one final paper.
Worst Professor ever, tests are extremely hard, nothing on the review sheet is on the test. Tells you to participate but doesn't call on you. AVOID AVOID.
MUST read & participate in class to succeed. Material in class differs from homework. Provides outlines & study guides, which is fair. His exams are multiple choice (3, with highest score counting twice as a '4th' grade) & extremely detailed. Critical thinking is required. He teaches you to analyze works & apply theories to case studies. Difficult!
Disorganized and careless. do not take.
Truly loves his job, amazing guy and teacher
Online class. Read all of the readings provided to you and listen to the audio lectures. Exam questions are somewhat challenging, but if you've read the material and listened to the lectures, then you'll be fine.
Hes a good guy. But he needs to work on his teaching skills. I had him during the winter section it was a lot of reading we had to do. He doesnt write on the board. He counts the highest exam grade twice so that helps out. He lets you out early. He explains things well he switches from topic to topic. No textbook. 3 exams.
I've taken 4 English classes in college, none of which amount to the difficulty in reading he provides. Keep in mind, this is a lvl 100 class. Winter/online, 3 exams, decreases # of q's on exams, so get 2/3 wrong and you wont get an A. He's looking for inhuman attention to detail. You NEED strong literacy skills and be familiar with political terms
His lectures were clear and organized, but most of the questions on his tests were based on the readings. The readings are long and he asks hard questions on them (no spit back). Overall, very doable for a winter class, and he was very accessible over email and is a nice guy.
Most tedious class I ever took. I'd stay away from his class unless you are very diligent & interested in Pol Sci. Weekly reading assignments take a LOT of time & his lectures are below average on completely diff material. Tests are very tricky and too hard for an elective class. On the bright side he ends class early often
I took him just as an elective class, hes the hardest Political Science Class Ive taken. Theres like more than a 100 readings, I took 5 classes I never got time. The test is mainly on the readings and lectures and its mad hard. Good luck with him if you want to get an A
DON'T TAKE HIM Worst decision ever. Made such an easy class so hard. His lectures and readings are way too long and hard. DON'T TAKE HIM if u care about your GPA.
He's a nice guy and the class is doable. DO the readings and TAKE notes as well from the readings. Take notes in class as well. Try to participate and be prepared to go over readings in class or he gets angry. The information is mostly common sense and understanding so it's harder because we are to memorization. Take this advise and you'll do ok.
Steer clear if looking for an easy pass, let alone an A. Is it doable? Yes, anything is if you dedicate yourself. His class requires 1000% attention, impeccable note taking skills, and DOING READINGS BEFORE CLASS, otherwise he calls u out and gets angry.. Remember the obscure stuff he says, its on the exam which is multiple choice AND CONFUSING
literally the hardest class I've ever taken in terms of sheer work and reading load but WOW, I finished this class feeling like a much stronger political scientist. the way he teaches is tough, exams are tooooo specific, but man does he teach you to think and write critically about PSCI. Face up to the challenge and u won't regret. Lazy ppl RUN!
I once spoke to him after class to ask if I can visit him during office hours because I needed help understanding a few things.... Mind you I'm not a political science major so I had difficulty... He literally rejected my request to help me. I tried reading everything and taking down many notes in class but I was still struggling.
After only one week of taking his class, I was ready to leave. The first couple of classes he didn't follow the syllabus, yet he expected students to keep up with the THOUSANDS of readings, even when it didn't correlate with lectures. He made us print lecture notes we didn't even use. I'm glad I dropped the class and avoided drowning in readings.
Professor's audio lectures are annoying to follow bc the professor stutters so much and speaks very fast. Outlines he provides are decent, he only briefly touches on certain points in audio lectures, so u must read. Annoying but not impossible to do. Not bad for online class, but I really hated listening to the audio lectures.
Professor Petaludis is amazing! Just show up and do the readings and review and you'll be fine. If you find the readings long go to his office hours and he'll help you out! (His office hours are great by the way) Great way to start off at QC!
He's good if you 1 like to read 2 are an auditory learner. His lectures are long and filled with information. I took him in-person and then online. He provides outlines for his lectures and review sheets for tests which is good, BUT his tests are CONFUSING. Expects you to know specific detail he mentions or read bout. Class is 100% graded on tests.
honestly one of the worst professors i ever had. assigns 14+ page essays to kids if they miss a test even if you have a valid reason he doesnt give a flying f. rude and inconsiderate and just an overall bad person. gets his rocks off by making your life harder. dont do it to yourself.
Absolute worst prof. ever! he is rude and a condescending know it all! His test are insanely hard, even if you read and listen to the audios you will NOT get an A! these test are crazy hard and confusing. Pray you don't have to ask him for help, he will not do it and make you feel stupid for even asking. I would never take him again.
This class is not hard at all, just do the readings and you will do well on the tests. The class is Asynchronous so you just do the work on your time. There is one paper at the end of the semester, 3 tests, readings & lectures. His lectures are short, just listen to them while cleaning your room or drawing or something. You don't need to take notes
My class was asynchronous so I dont know what hes like in real life but he did curve our test grades a lot so that was nice. During our first test, Blackboard went out and he gave us all a 94 like thats my boy fr. He laid the whole semester out for us so all we had to do was listen to lectures, take notes and take tests. 10/10 truly
My goodness where do I start? I took this class during the pandemic and this professor gave me anxiety. HE GAVE US 30 MINS TO COMPLETE A 30 QUESTION EXAM! When the students begged for more time he refused to give it. These tests were hard because they were all based on articles. The question would be like "what did the author say in this article?".
I took this class during the pandemic so it was asynchronous with prerecorded lectures and PDFs of articles that you need to listen and read for the tests. There are 3 tests and a 5 page essay and the only research you can use for the essay are the articles he put on bb but he didn't give us the grade back. Not sure if I would take him again.
I do not understand why people say his class is difficult. I took his class Fall 2019 before covid and as long as you read the readings and paid attention and took lots of notes during the lecture you will be fine. I don't know why doing the bare minimum is so hard for some people. If you don't want to do the bare minimum don't attend college.
I'm not done taking this class but steer clear. It seems great but is not! The only thing good is you can do work on your own time but tests are super unfair and hard. The lectures demand lots of reading and the smallest detail you'll find on the test.
I took Professor Petaludis for PSCI102 and 104. If you just put in a minimum amount of work, you can get an A. There are a lot of readings and audio lectures, but just devote 45 minutes a week to easily get through it. The tests are very straightforward if you studied/took notes. Anyone complaining that this class is "hard" put in zero work.
I enjoyed this class, I actually learned from it. I suggest don't miss lectures, he doesn't mind but you'll fall behind quickly.
you get graded based on 3 tests (asynchronous). the questions on the exams are weirdly worded and almost every choice sounds correct. the readings are BORING, he doesn't really do a great job at explaining them in the lecture audios. it's difficult to make connections with the readings when you don't understand them. zoom meets would be nice.
Do not take! Boring class and the audio lectures don't make any sense at all. He's all over the place and not understanding if a technological glitch occurs. I highly recommend not taking. Beware!!!
Make sure to read the articles and listen to pre-recorded lectures. Take advantage of the exam reviews. He requires three exams and a 5-page final essay. No other assignments. Personally, I attended only 2-3 on-campus classes except during exam dates. So, this should show that all the information you need can be found on blackboard.
Barely gave a syllabus. Left the students to teach each other. Sat in back of class. Sometimes left 20 minutes into class. Shouted at students in front of class. Outed students for not sending in assignments in mass emails. Penalized students for criticizing him, taking 30 points off for grammar in essays. Ignored certain emails. Erratic and rude.
Probably the worst professors I ever had. No type of a notes to copy off of and it's just him going on about random topics for the whole lecture. Can never stick to one subject and is always all over the place. Goes on rants about topics not related to the class. Highly recommend avoiding taking this professors class.
NO JOKE I wouldnt even recommend this to my worst enemies, no notes what so ever, Lecture heavy , ALL I COULD SAY IS TRUST DONT LET THE RATING FOOL YOU
very lecture heavy!!! no slides, you have to go based off reading assignments he gives you and the lectures he teaches in class. All he does is talk and you just have to try and catch up with your notes as he talks. Expects you to know the readings by heart….
No powerpoint/presentation he shows up to class with a binder looks at his notes and just talks to you for an hour and ten minutes, although Prof. Petaludis is very knowledgeable about what he is teaching, his style of teaching just doesn't work for many. If you wish to have a relaxed class this is not what you are looking for.
Requires a lot of reading. The benefit is that you don't need to attend class if you complete the readings. There are three tests and 1 essay, with the highest grade counting twice, so scoring well on one test can help you pass. The lectures aren't engaging. The tests are okay as long as you do the readings and review the study sheet. Not an easy A.
I wouldn't recommend this class unless you want to feel targeted by the professor. I failed one of his test and he made sure the class knew and told me that it was all my fault and I must never take notes or pay attention. But it's because he just rambled on every class talking about basically anything that popped into his head.
That's some serious S*** Targeted by a dude teaching political science... Imagine getting called out for failing an exam AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Idk man I never took this class though I wish you the upmost recuperation from this class.
