VERY GOOD!!! funny too!
Nick is great he makes his class interesting and has great ways of making you remember discussions. Would love to take more classes with him as teacher.

This teacher rocks! He's very understandable, and laid back....easy too
Nick was a very good teacher, made psychology seem at least a little interesting to me.
Nick's got a great personality. He's very easy-going and easy on the eyes. Assignments are clear and mostly opinion based.
Excellent teacher, keeps it fun, very approachable, would take his classes anytime
His tests suck, but the lectures are usually interesting.
Very interesting as a teacher&made the class very interesting. Jokes around a lot. I love how he incorporates stories from his life. Tests are easy if you take notes&study the guides. Very approachable& understanding. Had to finish the semester early&was very helpful. Fun to talk to about anything. In first bit of the semester hard to watch videos
very good teacher. he teaches very well but his tests are very hard
Nick is hilarious and very intelligent. He incorporates stories from his life, which makes it easier to understand. GO TO CLASS and you'll do fine!!
Just an addy to all the very accurate comments. Highly recommended and wish there were more professors like Nick.
Nick is an interesting teacher, however the tests do not coincide with the lectures. The tests require A LOT of study time. A number of students in my class were fighting for a passing grade up until the last test of the semester.
Nick is such a great teacher. He is freakin hilarious. He always keeps class interesting and fun..there is never a dull moment. Psych is tough, but he makes it easier to understand. His tests are hard...but if you study you will do fine. If you are going to take psych, I am telling you take Nick. You won't regret it.
hes a really cool and fun teacher but he dosent teach you anything but stories. we had a test on unit 3 and NEVER went over chapter 6. the class is easy if you study hard but if you dont then you will fail. btw dont buy a textbook for this class you will NEVER use it. he has you print out powerpoints.
He was nice and I think he's definitely a good person who tries to make students like him, but I think he graded ridiculously harshly on some of the homework, and I also was kind of annoyed by his skepticism to anything that can't be proven by science (like astrology) but other than that he was cool.
Nick is an awesome teacher! he was really nice and made class fun and interesting. You get to drop the lowest test score and as long as you do the homework and study for the tests you'll do well. I highly recommend taking psych with him!
Nick is an excellent teacher and helped me out when I needed it the most. I aced all my exams except the first one, because I wasn't paying attention and didn't know it was coming up. He makes studying easy by providing tons of notes and power point presentations. I wish he taught other classes, he's amazing.
Overall nice guy. Pretty fair. His tests are difficult, don't expect to just recognize the right answers like you did in high school.
Nick is really nice and a overall good teacher. He really cares about what he teaches so this might make the class difficult for some. His exams are really hard, don't expect to just memorize the power points, you have to actually read but the new textbook is amazing. I definitely recommend him.
Very passionate teacher. Knowledgeable. Tests are very difficult though. Tests don't just check book knowledge, but comprehension. If you don't study hard and know the material well, you won't get a good grade.
Good teacher overall, however, gives you study guides that covers no information on the tests, which makes the tests extremely difficult.
i loved this class. it was so much fun and he was never boring. if you study you will be fine. if you don't it won't be easy. overall he was a great teacher that liked teaching and was fun
Tough class ,but a very excellent, passionate ,knowledgable teacher. Really cares about what he's teaching and who he's teaching it to. I had to take this class and I'm glad I did. Need more teacher's like Nick at Heartland!!
Nick is awesome, and by far, the most passionate teacher at Heartland. Everyone says his tests are hard, and they can be, just study as much as he says and you'll do fine. Take Nick if you need Psych, he will make it a fun and VERY interesting class
He is pretty funny, I'm sure you'll hear the same jokes and comparisons I did. But they are good, pretty cool guy. Put in effort and you can get an A.
Nick is the best. You can tell that he wants to be in class teaching this material. His tests are challenging, but the assignments are easy and fun. I enjoyed going to his class and learning. He is very easy to talk to and he is willing to help.
The class was difficult, and students are expected to work very hard. You learn something when you are done with this class, for sure. Nick is fun, intelligent, helpful, and encouraging. I recommend him if take PSY at HCC.
Loved his class. He is funny and very helpful and understanding. The best were very hard tho.
I loved him... His class was funny most of the time. His test are very difficult but the homework assignments are very fun. He loves doing his job.. Anyone that needs to take a Psy class i would take him. If you hate sitting in class im sure if you have him you will be laughing and will actually like being at school
He is a very humerous person! BUTTT... I didn't reallly like his teaching style! he could be better. I would NOT recommend his class!
I like him! He keeps things interactive and interesting; he'll include activities for the students to participate in. I was already a little intrigued by the subject to begin with, & he's just made it so much more fun so that I actually want to learn. He also has a sense of humor, and he's just an overall fun, chill guy.
very helpful. tests are hard. READ YOUR BOOK. YOUR BOOK IS YOUR KEY TO PASS TESTS. very friendly. knowledgeable. he loves teaching and you can tell. I wish all my teachers were like him
Nick is one of the best instructors I have had! He takes the time to help all of his students if they ask. He always makes the class fun to attend. The class its self is okay. Somewhat hard but if you pay attention and do the work and study, and attend class you will be fine. I wish Nick taught more than just 101. :)
Took PSY 101-07. He's a good teacher and as long as you show up, pay attention, and study the class is relatively easy.
I think, he is one of nice profeccear since I have ever had in any class. He is very clear about his assginment and quiz. If you want to success in his class, just follow his instruction. His quizez are so easy. he also drop one lowest test score for the exam.he motivates students alot. I like his class becasue he alwauys taeching by giving example
It doesn't get any better than Nick! He really strives to be a good teacher and he is. He's very helpful, always responded to my emails fast. The class isn't hard if you just show up! The new book is great..easy to read and he gives you study guides that are easy to follow! He also explains assignments very well.Highly recommend this fun class!
I took his class over the summer, so there was a lot of information covered in a short amount of time, but he made it very managable. He gives you hand outs of his powerpoints so you don't have to take notes. Tests come straight from the notes. There are a few small papers and easy projects. I'm now minoring in psych because of him. Take his class!
I loved this class because Nick related all of the different topics of it to real-life examples that were actually cool to learn about. Most of the material was either really relatable or just plain interesting. Did not think I was going to enjoy an 8 am class this much! Lenient on homework, but tests were a bit more difficult. Nothing too bad.
He is really nice guy. His teaching style is awesome. I feel comfortable while learning from him. He makes everyone laugh in class so students can handle pressure.
Nice guy, good class. The tests aren't bad at all if you go to class and use the book & powerpoints to study. And the homework and papers are easy points if you just do the work. He's super helpful if you need it though
Great Teacher! Follow his instructions on homework and quizzes and you won't miss any points. His exams are tougher but if you follow along with his study guide then you cant go wrong. He was extremely prompt with responses and grades. If I have the choice I will find another class with him teaching because he's that good!
Nick makes it easy for his students to learn. He relates the topics to his students so they can get a better understanding of what he is talking about. There is never a dull moment in his class. He keeps his students focused by doing small goofy things to lighten the mood.
Great professor. Corndog.
This was his first time giving Social Psychology and in some ways it showed. He had to improvise a lot but he had a lot of class activities. The book was very needed for the tests and they were always multiple choice. The lectures weren't necessary to pass, but they were very fun and I looked forward to going. Overall great teacher.
Psych 101 with Nick Schmitt was one of the easiest classes I've taken. As long as you read the sections he tells you to read in the book and you review the powerpoints that he goes over in class, you should be fine. There are a few group projects, but as long as you follow the guidelines and you participate, you should get an A!
Excellent instructor. Assigns homework regularly that directly pertains to lectures. Papers in the 3rd and 4th units, expectations are precise and clear. He welcomes questions and reiterates a topic if needed. Everything is posted to Blackboard making review easy, study guides walk you through what to study. If you want an easy A skip his class.
He expects students to try on their homework, attendance helps to increase grade, and tests were a large portion of the grading. He is very open to and available if you need help and his respects students who show they are trying to get a good grade. He was excellent help when I needed an interview for another class assignment.
Great teacher, funny and entertaining. Hard test maker, if your looking for an easy A or an A at all steer clear of sir Schmitt. His tests confused me and my study efforts weren't reflected through better test scores. However, I think earning a B was worth experiencing the class rather than just earning a grade.
Nick is one of the best professors at Heartland. His lectures are so great that you will never want to miss class!! The tests are not difficult if you study.
He is an AMAZING teacher. Easily one of my favorite classes I've ever taken. I enjoy going to every single class. SIGN UP FOR HIS CLASS, HE ROCKS.
Nick was great. Extremely funny. Corndog. Take his class and you'll understand. I liked being there and he was really helpful. Not the easiest class, the tests were tough. However, he would help me on tests because I was usually the last one to leave because I was struggling so much. He cares for his students and wants you to succeed. Awesome guy.
Nick is hilarious and a pretty decent grader. His class isn't too hard but you still have a chance to prove yourself to him. If you have an A at the end of the semester you don't have to take the final! He is very good at explaining the material. It would be hard not to pass his class.
Very organized, help, you will learn from him
Nick was a great professor and I didn't realize how awesome until the next semester when I had a few more instructors.
He grades super hard and there isn't a lot of homework assignments to make up lost points.
Nick's psychology class was really fun. He is by far my favorite professor I have had at Heartland so far. Let's go over some pro's first. His lectures are fantastic. He's very respected. He gives wonderful feedback. I only have 2 negatives to say. One, his accessibility isn't great. Two, his tests are HARD for an introductory course. Solid choice.
I thought he was hard. he was super nice on the other hand just hard tests and tough grader. If you are able to take a teacher, THAT YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY WORK IN THE CLASS FOR A GOOD GRADE. he's good, definitely NOT an easy A though.
TESTS ARE SUPER SUPER SUPER HARD! If you're a bad test taker, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH NICK.
Love Nick! He makes fun class and relatable. However, I love his classes because I am a psych major and am genuinely interested in what he's teaching. Attendance is mandatory, tests are all application of topics, not just regurgitating facts. So if you're not into psych, don't take him, but if you do, meet your new fave teacher :) 10/10 recommend
There are no tricks when it comes to Nick. He's as skinny as a toothpick but not afraid to dropkick. Nick will stick you with a good grade if you choose to pick to show up. Nick is sick, not a hick. He once loaned me his chapstick. Baller on a budget. 10/10 would recommend
His class is fun but tests are hard. no need final test if you get A in average. perfect attendance will make a curve.
Nick is a great teacher, but man, are his tests hard! Hes a tough grader but gives great lectures. He has a nice sense of humor. Study hard!
Nick is a great professor. I took two of his classes (101 and 210) and wish I could take more. He makes his lectures interesting by adding humor and visuals daily. His tests are not easy so make sure you study and read the text! He also posts practice questions on BB that can be very helpful. I would 10/10 recommend him to anyone.
He is super nice and funny and very helpful. I learned a lot from him from his teaching style. I like that he gives you practice quizzes.
Awesome guy, if you skip class or dont focus enough, tests will be tough. As long as you study youre golden! Nick is hilarious.
Nick is one of the funniest teachers I have ever taken. He is very relatable and try to relate to you. I wish I could take him again!
Psychology online was very difficult, but Nick did an outstanding job providing the tools to succeed outside of just having to read the text book. His biggest downfall was having assignments due on random days of the week with no consistency. He marks down 50% for late assignments, so If you aren't organized, maybe skip his course online.
Nick is probably the best prof @ HCC. I would take his class over and over if I could. He really cares about his students and is very down to earth. His classes are fun and laid back and you are guaranteed to have a great time and get a good grade. He makes you work for your grade but really wants you to succeed. Love Nick! When in doubt take Nick!
I loved my class with Nick! I'm not normally a talkative person in class but his lectures really brought out the speaker in me. It probably helped that I liked the subject, but I think he really taught it well. He very obviously cares about his students and is so down to earth. He's super funny and easy to talk to!
Professor Schmitt was a great psychology teacher. He made me love psychology. I would take any class that he taught.
He was the best professor I've had in college thus far. I would take him for every class if I could; definitely recommend!
Loved Nick's class he is a great teacher. He is funny and always makes the subjects interesting. He is a real genuine guy he actually cares about his students and what he does. If I could rate Nick on my own personal scale he would be 5 corndogs outta 5.
Loved having him for prof very entertaining! tests suck! I would take him again though!
I loved this class. I would definitely recommend taking psych with him. His tests are hard, but he gives out a study guide for everything that will be on the test, which makes it easier. He is hilarious and made a boring general class more fun!
I love Psychology, But this class and professor just wasn't for me. I really rely a lot on homework and papers and group projects in ANY course. Sadly the papers we had to write were so much work for 20 or 30 points TOTAL. Do not take this class if you are bad at tests. Also make sure you show up to class or you will miss so much information.
Nick is hilarious, and he makes the material very easy to understand. I loved taking this class. As a psych major, I would absolutely take another class with Nick. He genuinely is easy to talk to and is very understanding. Just be honest with him if you're struggling, he'll make sure you understand. He also actually does care about his students.
Great teacher. Thats all. Best first teacher. Interesting and funny class. A overall in class before final no final
Nick is one of my favorite professors at Heartland. He is great at following the rubric he sets, and has low tolerance for excuses. Hilarious and witty, it was apparent quickly that I made the right choice taking my class with him. Be aware that tests can be difficult if you don't study, but his personality more than makes his class worth it.
Nick is an awesome professor! I took the intro to psych class online over the summer, and it was a pretty easy class. He was great at outlining what to know on the quizzes. I had some computer trouble during one of the quizzes where it froze and I couldn't finish the quiz. I let him know, and he let me retake it. I would definitely recommend him!
Nick is great professor! He is thorough and really helps you understand the content. I took an online class over the summer, so it was a lot of information in a short time frame, but Nick does a great job of helping you understand. He is available for questions, honest, kind, open. I really enjoyed his class !
Lots of hour long video lecture that were hard to follow.
He really gives everyone the opportunity to do well. His requirements were always super clear and you won't be surprised by what's on the tests. He was always funny and made the class super interesting. He really cares about the students and was very knowledgeable with realistic expectations. Very kind & easy going. I loved going to this class.
He is a really great, funny professor. If you show up to class and actually try it is an easy B. If you go the extra mile and study for test and participate in class it's an easy A.
Nick is an amazing instructor! I took him online for PSY101 once and would definitely take him again. He gives you like a month of work at once and just gives you due dates that can be finished early. He also gives great feedback, good lectures, and can be funny at times. Little to no reason you should not pass this class.
Nick Schmitt made the class very fun and enjoyable. His main style of teaching is going through powerpoint presentations that include videos, but he usually adds in some activities to do and tries to have the class participate as well. There's not very much reading and he doesn't assign long papers, but he does include a few lengthy assignments.
He was great! I loved the class and his lectures.
He responds quickly when you reach out for help and gives awesome feedback. The class was an easy A and there were a few discussions a week with the assignments due but overall I enjoyed the class and would take it again.
His class was way to hard and I dont feel like I felt comfortable enough to even talk to him about it.
I took Nick's PSY 101 class online and it was great. He posts powerpoint presentations and videos of him presenting them as well. The assignments and quizzes are super easy as long as you watch the presentations. He gives great feedback on assignments. I would definitely take another one of his classes. There is also a lot of EC offered.
Professor Schmitt gives valuable feedback on assignments and gets them graded quickly. The study guides are easy to follow and they tell you exactly what you need to know for quizzes. Some video lectures can be a bit long but they provide the information that you need to know for assignments and quizzes. There are extra credit opportunities too.
He gives at least 4 discussions with 1 assignment and quiz plus textbook reading in one week. If you dont learn how to manage time, you will be stuck. I did not like the fact that he took grading like I was in the military. Testing wasnt hard as long as you know the topic. I wont be taking his class again, it was way too much homework.
LOVE NICK SCHMITT! TAKE HIM!!!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!
Professor Schmitt is hilarious and kept my interest in every lecture. He encourages students to participate in class discussions and has a way of letting you participate without making you feel dumb if you get an incorrect answer. Would definitely recommend taking his class!
he is awesome, gets his class involved, and makes the classroom a safe place for everyone. He cares about his students, a must-have teacher while at Heartland!
Assignments were lengthly and worth lots of points. Tests were more "real-life" situations which made answering questions more difficult. Pre-recorded lectures were boring and the PowerPoints did not have enough information on them to help with quizzes. He did offer extra credit but they were always so time consuming.
Awesome teacher. Very understanding!
Definitely recommend! Just watch the video lectures and the assignments are a breeze!
Prof. Schmitt gives great instructions in his lectures and explains everything that is in his tests very clearly. Read the assigned pages in the textbook, listen to his lectures, & takes notes on the PowerPoints and you will breeze through this class. He gives opportunities for extra credit & will work with you if you need extra help on anything.
Overall the content is self explanatory, but Schmitt does not give fair grades that appropriately reflect your efforts. Schmitt has a tendency to mark down papers for minor "omission" mistakes, which is terribly frustrating as a high achieving student. I constantly had anxiety checking my grades, and eventually got burnt out of his class.
Schmitt is an amazing teacher, he does a great job at preparing for tests. he acknowledges its only an intro class and makes challenging concepts as simple as possible. Super easy to earn an A, i would recommend taking in person he does a great job of applying these concepts to every day life and personal examples which helps with memorization!
I took Professor Schmitt's PSY 101 class fully online. He is a fantastic professor and taking his class was a great experience! Easy to communicate with over email, had good material, fair grader, great class structure. As long as I did the work, I was confident on the quizzes/tests and got good grades. I recommend Professor Schmitt highly!!!
amazing best teacher ever
I LOVED this class. The only negative thing to say is that he doesn't teach any other classes I can take. Highly recommend if you want a class you actually enjoy attending. He's hilarious.
Nick is cool he gave extra credit. Lenient on grading. He let us use a hand written cheat sheet on exams. Most of his exam questions was material that we cover in his lectures not in his study guides.
I loved Nick, his lectures were energetic and interesting, for being an intro class. Practically no homework, and only 4 tests, each allowed a full page of notes. No final. Attendance is not required, but you sometimes get points for attending. He requires a textbook, but you can easily go without the book. For an intro to psych class it was great!
He is so great. There are quizzes and you will do a lot of discussions with quite a few video ones. Nick makes it known that he wants his students to learn even if we aren't there to learn in person. TAKE HIM!!!!!
Mr. Schmitt is a great teacher, although attendance was not mandatory he does appreciate when everyone shows up and will occasionally give extra credit to those consistently in class and participating (even if not out loud). Workload is very manageable and grading was very fair, would definitely take another one of his classes
I love Nick so much. His lectures were great, homework was easy, and tests were fine if you took a few minutes to study. He is so kind and respectful and if you can, TAKE HIS CLASS!
Nick was a great professor. If you read and follow instructions and do the work you'll do fine. He is great with feedback and wants you to succeed. I truly enjoyed his class!
Nick was a good teacher, but he gives a lot of homework and tests. He will say a two-page paper is worth 40 points. You will need to read the book to help with test answers because they are not on Quizlet. He also gives extra credit assignments, but they are only worth 5 points, he grades on time but takes a while to respond to student emails.
This prof is hilarious, and very helpful if you need it. Interesting class, highly recommend!
He was a great professor! I definitely would take his class again.
Professor Schmitt was great for me as I had him with PSY101. There is a decent amount of homework each week, but you learn a lot and that's the ultimate goal. He gives good feedback on discussion boards. If he was tired from the weekend he would give us 100% on the assignment. He's a very honest guy and cares about the wellbeing of his students.
Fun class! Read the material and you'll be good to go. A couple of discussions with classmates, assignments are more focused on the material and watching short videos that apply to the textbook chapter. Homework is graded quickly and the mid-term and final are open-book. I appreciate his teaching style, definitely recommend.
I love Nick so much he is a sweet man. Very easy class, just study for tests, especially exam 1. Very awkward and dorky but loves to have personable conversations with students. 100% would take again. He is a great teacher and easy to understand, highly recommend.
Nick is a great professor who wants his students to succeed. Workload is manageable, and grading is fair. Attendance is usually mandatory but he appreciates participation. Unstuck study was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
Professor Schmitt uses slideshow, videos, and review "games" to prepare for the 4-5 tests in Psych 101. He is outgoing and easy to learn from.
Easy course! Took him again because i liked 101 w him, and it did feel like a lot of the same material. Some new stuff, but the classes are too similar for me. Tests way easier than 101, and all assignments are easy. I didn't purchase the textbook and only one test had one question related to it, not necessary to pass
Great guy, and if you want to take a psych class, take his! Funny videos and stories within lessons. He encourages questions and interactions in class without forcing them. Lessons seem like lots of material to go through, but he makes it digestible and easy to go back and study on. Serious when needed. Always ask questions when you need answers!
This is the second class I've taken from Prof. Schmitt. This time it was an online course, and while some of his hilarious personality is missing due to not being in person, it still is a phenomenal class and he's a great professor.
Nice guy, however I felt that a lot of important topics were either talked about once in class and never again, or were skipped over and I had to read to textbook to teach myself. Very lengthy lectures that can get very boring, however you can tell he attempts to make it more fun. Quiz and test questions sometimes worded to try and confuse you.
fairly easy class, teacher was hilarious. Fun to learn from and would definitely take again. Showing up does matter, has in in-class assignments that are fairly straightforward. 10/10
Had him online & in person. Liked him online more. He's really strict about attendance in person.
